great tv, great price     On: 2008-06-26

I have had this tv for about 4 months now and I must say that I absolutely love it. The matte screen completely eliminates any glare or reflections and provides a great HD picture. The thing I have actually been impressed with is the quality of the SD picture. there is very little pixelation and I actually think its better on this than on my old SDTV. Overall a great buy and great performance.

The Best Picture Ever!     On: 2008-06-22

Great picture, wonderful service. The driver came in and set up the TV to be sure it was working properly. Best deal in the world. No tax or deliver charge.
Very Pleased with Samsung     On: 2008-05-22

WE are Very ,Very, Pleased with our New Samsung LNT4661F LCD HDTV. We would go to the big box stores and stand back and look at all the pictures first. Then walk up to the best picture to find out what set we liked the bset. We found that the Samsung came out first 9 out of 10 times. So we went with the Samsung. We are very, very pleased with this product.
Love it     On: 2008-05-22

We shopped and researched quite a while for 42-46" LCD TV. We were not at all disappointed with the LNT4661F as our choice. Over-the-air HD looks awesome, DVDs look great, and SD TV is acceptable. Delivery and setup was very good as well.
My best Amazon buy yet!     On: 2008-05-12

Yes, I read all the reviews, consumers reports, etc. Just incredible picture for 1500 bucks. I have seen a better picture on other TVs but they usually cost 5 grand or higher. You can actually see the blades of grass when watching golf. Easy to setup, but dont go by me since Im an engineer by trade. Great buy and I would do it again.
Outstanding picture quality     On: 2008-05-10

This unit was top rated. I compared it in store against a Sony 1080p. It came out ahead. After I purchased the unit, I compared it with my Dell Plasma 42" TV. It was sharper, brighter but the LCD color is not as rich as the Plasma. It was narrower than many other 46" HDTV and I was able to squeeze it into same location. Overall, I am very happy with the unit especially when it has three HDMI inputs. My Dell has only one HDMI input.
WHITE GLOVE DELIVERY a JOKE! RUN THRU with a FORKLIFT!     On: 2008-05-09

The TV was delivered by one man, not two as described, no big deal. He said something must have been dropped on the box when I questioned the large hole in the top of the shipping container. I made a terrible mistake allowing the set to be brought into my home. Without time to think what to do, he opened the box and started tearing the protective cover from the TV. I wrote a note mentioning the large hole in the box on the return paperwork. The hole was at the top and all the way thru the cardboard container. It appears someone used a forklift to move another container sitting on top of this one, misjudged and rammed one of the forklift blades thru this container. One can only imagine how much pressure it took to pierce this thick cardboard box. This means the TV was exposed to a great deal of stress, forklifts weigh several tons. The TV appeared ok at first, but latter I noticed a 7/16" black spot behind the screen? Upon closer inspection I noticed the screen had a film on it and the black case had small scratch marks at the top where the Styrofoam may have been stress against the black frame. (The film on the screen makes me wander if I was sent a refrub instead of a new unit? Did someone spray some cleaner on it and did not get it off?) I own four LCD displays and none have a film on the screen. In Auto the time will not set either? I immediately went thru Amazons procedure. (Estara Inc.) returned my called and recommended I check the set out for up to 30 days. I just cant believe they would ask me to keep the set after it was reportedly hit by a forklift, what else could do that to a shipping container? One week passed, I called again asking for something to be done. This time the customer service rep said she would have the Amazon department that handled larger shipments call me within 48hrs. I really doubt if some of these Reps completely understand. I stayed close to the phone for 50hrs with no return call. I went thru Amazons call procedure for the third time. This Customer Service Rep said she would send the information to the proper department one more time. Well, here it is the next day @2pm and still no call from Amazon. I have read excellent reviews about Amazon Customer service, I cannot figure out why I am getting this treatment when all I did was pay cash. They have my money. Also Beware of Amazons slick tricks: When I bought this TV it came with a free DVD player, I already have two that upconvert to 1080P, these also have HardDrives. I for one did not need the free DVD player to begin with. The DVD was supposed to be free but they charged my Credit Card separately for the DVD player, thus not free. They did subtract this amount from what was invoiced for the TV. This is fine in most cases, but when trying to get an adjustment after Amazon drops the price this changes the price point, plus if the shipment is returned customer Service stated I would have to pay return shipping on the DVD player even though everything was shipped to me free. Ive got the gut feeling that my bank account is going to be left in the negative after all is said and done. It appears they are going to do nothing about this LCDTV! This is the same way Paypal does their customers. Buy from E-bay, you get cheated, and it cost you to get part of your money back. I am really upset with Amazons performance.
Picture is not that clear as expected.     On: 2008-05-08

After reading so many of great reviews on this set (and also from the Consumer Reports), I decided to make a purchase. I consider this 61F over the 65F and 71F due to the glare concern.

The set arrived a couple days sooner than expected. No delivery problem as CEVA handled a good job even though the box was torn and there were some light scratches on the screen. Other than that, the set looks perfect.

It turned out that the picture is not as good as I highly expected (by reading ). I do not really care about the sound as it is hooked up to the 5.1 system. The picture is NO MATCH with my 2 year-old Panasonic 720p plasma. HD channels are good (it is great on the plasma) but SD ones are much worse (compare to the plasma). The texts on the screen are blurry in SD mode. I did not have a chance to try it out with my HD-DVD player yet.

I have been playing a lot with the settings hope to get a better picture. No luck ¼.

I saw some posts on here suggesting to let the set ¡§burning out¡¨ for 20 to 40 hours before I can see a better picture. Let see if it works and I will get back after a couple days with the new result.

I do not want to rate the system as for now. However, I give it a 4 as it is required to submit the post.

TV ARRIVED AS SCHEDULED. SET UP INSTRUCTIONS WERE EASY TO FOLLOW. BEAUTIFUL PICTURE. GOOD INSTRUCTION BOOK.
I love this TV!     On: 2008-05-08

The biggest problem with this tv is that I am spending way too much time watching it. I often catch myself watching commercials with my mouth open, just happy at how great the cat food commercial looks (I dont own a cat). Delivery was a week earlier than scheduled, but who is going to complain about that! It was delivered in perfect condition and the delivery guy offered to take the box away. Overall, a perfect experience. Now I just need to figure out a way to turn the thing off and go to work...
Beautiful Picture     On: 2008-05-08

I am very pleased with this television. I was unsure about having an item this large and expensive delivered but it was quick and without a hitch. I had ordered other items from Amazon in the past and was satisfied, no exception here.

Sweet picture, flexible inputs, great deal     On: 2008-04-28

First I must say that this is my first LCD TV, so I have nothing to compare it to besides all the poorly-set in-store models. I did do pretty extensive research before buying, though. After reading Consumer Reports review of it, and hearing a lot of good things about Samsung, this became my first choice, so I snatched it up when this refurb came available at an awesome price.

I havent yet got a Blue-Ray player but I can say that all the 1080i and 720 sources from my cable company look awesome. This is after I reset everything using some online presets as a starting point. Even the standard 480 broadcasts and analog 480 upscale very well on this set.

Its got plenty of inputs, which Im very happy about, although the only thing I would have liked would be a cable-card slot. Its even got a USB port which you can plug a flash-drive full of photos into and browse or slideshow on the monitor.

All in all Im very happy with this purchase.

I had a problem when this was delivered..Amazon took care of this matter on the spot..Excellent customer service! I just love this Television
Good Samsung HDTV     On: 2008-04-22

The picture looks great. The sound is great. When we got it it made a "clicking noise" when we turned it on and off. So we called Samsung and they sent someone out to look at it. They said it was a bad "relay switch." Amazon picked up the old tv and dropped off the new tv at the same time within a week. Great service from Amazon along the whole way!!! However, the new tv does the same thing just not as bad. I dont know if its just part of the tv or what but it only does it for a few seconds when we turn it on and off so its not that big of a deal. Definitely recommend Amazon and TV is great but not perfect so only 4 out of 5 stars...
The Samaung LNT4661F LCD TV     On: 2008-04-21

This TV has been a complete joy. After some minor adjustments between it and my DVR cable box, this TV has a great crystal clear picture and very good sound. I have a lot of friends that have both LCD and plasma TVs and all of them told me that they think this is the clearest picture that they have seen. At this point I can only say good thing about it. I would rate it a 10 out of 10.

It also was a great help in ordering the TV through Amazon. They kept up very good communication back to me by emails. The TV even got to me sooner than originally stated. The delivery was effortless for me. I could not have ask for any better transaction thanks to Amazon. Because of Amazon I also purchased a receiver and subwoofer to go with the Samaung TV. I will absolutly be back to purchase again through Amazon.

Thanks for the great job...........Richard

We received the Samsung tv in a short period of time. The delivery service was great. We were called and given a time when it was to be delivered. The tv itself was in perfect condition. We were able to track our product on line from the shipping point to our destination. We have had our tv for a month and everything is working fine. The color and clarity is perfect. I would recommend this product and the service we received from Amazon.com.
Beautiful Addition     On: 2008-04-11

Installed the TV on the wall in our family room in a little entertainment nook just perfect for this size LCD TV. Great viewing from anywhere in the room. We elevated it slightly to make it more Wii Sports friendly. Color/clarity and black levels are perfect. The matte screen provides a glare/reflection free experience even with every light in the room on. Ive cycled through the various presets for the video settings and found one that worked great for the placement no bright windows near by. Easy setup and beautiful picture make this a great choice.
Great picture     On: 2008-04-09

This is a great television. The picture is bright and clear, it has many different connections for whatever cables you have, and the menu clearly walks you through your options. The blacks are rich not to forget how attractive and stylish the tv itself also is. My only concern is the sound quality. Im getting a humming sound when the tv is turned up past 22 but it might be my Charter supplied audio cables.
Samsung LNT4661F     On: 2008-04-07

Since there are several glowing reviews of this LCD TV Ill be brief. Since I really like my Samsung 22" monitor and needed a 46" TV vs. a 47" (to fit in an existing hole in the wall) I turned to this set and couldnt be more pleased.

The Eagle delivery here (Rochester, NY) was handled very well and happened a week before promised. The truckers were kind enough to carry it to where I wanted it as opposed to the front door. While they recommended I NOT turn it on right away (it was pretty cold) they were quite patient and allowed me to make a careful inspection for physical damange. The TV was flawless and has worked perfectly for a month or so now.

Are there things Id like to behave differently? Yes, of course but I would still buy this set again without thinking about it at all.

1. I really wish the remote would control the volume of my Yamaha receiver.

2. While the QAM tuner finds all the unscrambled HD channels on my Time-Warner cable (I have one cable box upstairs but refuse to rent a second for this set) any of the channels up in the 125 area all show up as DTV "0". You cant delete these, label them or anything else. On the other hand, they are gorgeous (CBS/Final Four) was watched with pleasure but having 4 or 5 channels all labeled "0" is a pain when you have to wait for the show to know if you are on the right channel or not. The largest aggravation is not being able to delete the HD Jewelry channel from my channel list :)

3. There have been two instances when the TV has just rebooted itself. The little "chime" that plays will play and the screen will go black and then just come back on like nothing happened. It happened twice in the first two weeks and not since. Weird.

4. Some if my gripes in 2. could be cheaply fixed if this unit would accept a cable card. Beware that there is no slot in this TV.

As for the pleasant surprises...

1. The picture I get off my old Tivo Series II is better than I expected. I have a 57" Sony rear CRT projection set that has superb HD but the TIVO recordings are not so good. This TV is noticeably better. While I realize its smaller, it is just better than I expected.

2. The picture I get of "non-HD" channels is also better than I expected. Sci-Fi, MSNBC, and some others are good enough that I dont notice often than they are not HD. Granted, there are some "dog" channels also that I wouldnt want to watch for long, but overall, I am quite pleased with this.

Features that I wont comment on....

1. I have a complete AV system so I have not used the internal speakers at all.

2. While the connectors on the left side and the manual controls on the right are handy, the placement "in a wall" of my set renders them either hard to use for space or impossible to read the labels. Therefore Ive not tried the USB connection since it is pretty hard to get to in my setup.

I do want to connect my MacBook Pro up to it and see how it works as a monitor. DIVX movies played via a Phillips DVD player look quite watchable to me also on this set.

There may be comparable/cheaper/better TVs out there but for me, this was a very satisfying purchase.

good luck!

Great TV     On: 2008-04-07

Purchased TV from AMAZON late last month. Delivered by Ceva on Friday. They took it out of the box, checked for sound, picture, and any damage in transit. I have no complaints.

TV was on sale for $1,130. Great TV for the price. The factory settings are good, however after doing some additional adjusting the picture is excellent. Motion blur is visible in fast moving objects, however not to the degree I have observed in other brands such as Vizo and Westinghouse. I almost purchased the new model ln40a550 but I elected to save the $300+ in price difference.
Do NOT buy this TV - unless you want to risk a possible WHITE screen!     On: 2008-04-04

Put that credit card away and DO NOT buy this TV!! Why? Well....1) when your TV goes to a 100% white screen in less than 2 months, 2)and you go through countless hours with Samsung "customer service" (a joke in itself) getting lied to and no results, 3)and you go through countless hours with their designated repair service (and this was the 3rd one assigned until someone actually responded and came to look at it!)again getting lied to and no results, 4)and then 2 and a half weeks out you are told that the part needed for the repair is no longer available and they are returning this "monster" UNrepaired to you, 5)and now you are back on the phone with Samsung with people who talk in circles and offer no real solutions and you have a 46" DEAD LCD stuck back up on your wall with no replacement or refund in site...........well, I suppose the only thing I CAN do is warn the rest of you who are considering this model: just DONT buy it! I do not wish to see ANYone go through the horror that we are going through right now! Would you seriously consider buying a TV that is known to fail with no parts available to repair it? If I were you - Id look at another product........
*UPDATE* After over 3 weeks of agonizing communications with Samsung, we finally have a resolution. They have agreed to exchange our unit for a newer LNT4665 within 14 days (depending on the trucking company). So we may be without a TV for up to a total of 5 weeks, but at least we will finally have a working TV again! Had I not made another call today, Im not sure we would have heard anything at all, but I am just glad that this nightmare is almost over. I DO find it a shame that there are amazon customers out there who seek to discredit those of us who have had REAL problems with this unit - not every machine is perfect, and we are here to review our own personal experiences with the product in question. Our experience happens to be a very negative one, and we have as much right to share our opinion and experience as anyone else - even if it disagrees with the majority.

Best thing I ever did!!     On: 2008-04-04

I researched for many weeks which tv to buy. Some say Sony some say Samsung... I went to the BB store and looked at everybody, LG, westinghouse, Sony, Panasonic,Pioneer and Then I saw it the Samsung! I needed the low glare screen for my living room environment, Its eveerything I dreamed of. Beautiful picture. I dont know what those reviews are of bad sound, For me I have a home theater system but only use it occasionally, the sound is great, on extremely loud crashes on movies when I have the volume up loud, like a theater would, the tv meets what I think it should sound like. No rattle noo tinny sound, I adjusted the onboard eq to my liking and wow, I am really imressed. Picture setting I foloowed the avs forums, set it to the settings and wow!!! I am going to put it on a wall bracket this weekend but now its on a tv stand, I love the swivel stand it comes with. Amazon beet the BB store by almost $250.00. Got the free shipping offer, CEVA called delivered it a day ahead of schedule, no damage, no problems, friendly, the driver was gonna wait for me to test it, I told him no. If it was damaged I have delat with samsung before and i know the local service center to take it to, thats just the way things are done now adays, no exchange they just repair it, I can live with it, Im glad mine got here unscathed. connected to the local cable comapny , analog/digital over plain old coax, looked really good, I have seen others being all grainy and pixelated, NOT My SAMSUNG!!!!Great picture...Cable company coming out Friday to install my HD box... Cant Wait!!!Woo Hoo, Looking for a tv for a bright lit room... this baby is so nice, If I didnt have so many picture windows and skylights I would have bought the 4665. Any way now to find a deal on a 32" for the bedroom.... Buy it you wont be sorry !!!

Best TV     On: 2008-03-28

TV looks great, I have been researching on LCD TV for a while and atlast ended up buying Samsung, my finalized list was AQUOS Sharp, Samsung, and Sony. but Samsung beat both of them with Excellent black levels, clear image, lots of input ports, easy to navigate menus. For the price range, you probably cant find a better TV.
Perfect TV, Perfect Vendor     On: 2008-03-25

I have been extremely happy with this set. In addition, the price was great @ Amazon. The shipping was free, very professional, and fast! The Samsung LNT4661F was recently rated the number 1 46" HD LCD in Consumer Reports magazine. After owning this set nearly a month, its understandable why.
Better than Sony, trust me I've owned both     On: 2008-03-25

NO MURA! NO CLOUDS! For those of us who have to suffer through clouds (white blotches on dark screens), this television is a joy. I went through two Sonys due to MURA, and it amazes me people will pay an additional $1000 for the luxurt of owning a Sony (that doesnt have better color reproduction in my opinion). The only con is the clicking noise in the back of the TV when you first turn it on, this isnt a defect but just a unit going through some sort of calibrating, but they should have mentioned it in the manual. Excellent blacks, on par with plasma screens, simple menus, good backlight settings, decent remote, excellent colors and amazing picture. Watch the Amazon price fluctuations which can vary $100 in a single day Ive noticed. White glove service was excellent, I received the television in 6 days. Oh and matte screen is much better than glossy unless you can put the TV in a media room with NO windows, then the glossy screen will enhance the color saturation a bit more.
Wow! Worth every penny!     On: 2008-03-24

We shopped and compared for literally months trying to decide on what would be our first HDTV purchase. After narrowing it down to the Sony Bravia and the Samsung 4661, we went to Circuit City and Best Buy to see them in person and decided on the Samsung, after finding both sets to have equally beautiful screens. We just couldnt rationalize spending all that extra money for the Bravia to get the same quality picture. Never having bought a Samsung before, we were a little nervous, but trusted all the excellent reviews from Consumers, Amazon, C-net, and even Circuit City customers. Suffice it to say that the price was excellent, no tax, no delivery charge, and, after ordering it on a Thursday, it was delivered on Tuesday. The delivery service was wonderful; the men were courteous and professional in every way.

I can only reinforce the glowing reports from so many other reviewers as to the absolutely easy set-up and stunning picture. I cant personally understand the complaints about the sound, as it seems more than fine even in our 2-story family room. If were watching a DVD, then, of course, we turn on the surround sound system to get all the theater-like effects, but just to flip through the channels to watch the evening news and such, its absolutely not necessary. Sound is crisp and clear and more than adequate, as we can only turn the volume up about halfway without blasting out the windows.

Even without digital cable, we get tons of channels, almost every regular channel having a high-def equivalent on another substation. (When the TV goes through its initial set-up, it detects numerous "sub" channels not received with normal cable, such as channel 4_1, 4_2, etc., which can either be high-def versions of the basic channel, or alternates to completely different stations.) There are so many that I had to make an Excel chart to keep near the TV, so that we can choose to see programs in the best version possible. Some stations have several alternates to select from, ranging from 480i to full 1080 HD.

The 4661 has a beautiful picture, no glare, and deep, rich blacks, even in a room with tons of windows. The remote is very easy to navigate, weve found, and very intuitive. There are connections galore, with a ton of choices, no matter what type of peripherals you need to hook-up.

As a bonus, the set price fell a week or two after we purchased it, and all it took was a single call to Amazon (at 2am, no less!!) to get an immediate refund of the difference. (Id recommend watching the price fairly regularly during the 30 days after purchase, since it only dropped for a few hours when we called, and had returned to its original price by morning.) The price can have spurts of unpredictable fluctuation and special offers at times, which can make it an even better deal if youre diligent.(In addition to the refund in price previously mentioned, we also qualified for a $100 NFL.com gift card!)

All in all, this purchase was one that were enjoying immensely! Ordering from Amazon was the best way to go by far. With the money we saved, were now looking for a 32" set for the bedroom!
Excellent Purchase     On: 2008-03-24

I spent months deciding on what LCD to buy and finally picked this unit. I relied on Consumer Reports, C-net and the reviews of others who have purchased this unit from Amazon. I had no fears about purchasing from Amazon, but I was a little worried about the shipping. However, I received it in a timely manner, and the delivering agent was prompt and friendly. They helped set it up enough to ensure that there was no damage and that it worked properly.
I chose this set over its better-rated (and slightly more expensive) brother because of the matte screen. It certainly helps offset the glare in our bright living room. The screen certainly does not seem to degrade the picture quality.
Overall, a very impressive unit.

Now I can turn my attention over to a Blue-Ray player!

Theres always something...

Super TV, Super service from Amazon, once again     On: 2008-03-23

I usually do not submit reviews, but we LOVE this TV and the service from Amazon. I ordered it on Monday, and even though the shipping date estimation was several days later, we received it on Thursday! Incredible! But, you must be flexible to be able to arrange home delivery with this delivery company. Luckily, I was able to work from home that afternoon. Anyway, great TV, great service. Highly recommend.
A must buy. Especially for gamers. *Update*     On: 2008-03-23

Im not an expert when it comes to tvs but this one sure beat the others when it comes to picture quality. When I started looking for a tv for our living room I went to Circuit City and Best Buy to compare prices and to compare the tvs side by side since you really cant do that online. My original choice was Sony since their reputation is pretty well known. I ended up taking a look at Sony, Toshiba, Panasonic, Sharp and Samsung and was blown away by the picture quality of the Samsung. I hadnt even read the reviews as yet. I was even ready to plop down the $2500+ that Circuit City wanted until my husband suggested doing online pricing. We found it sooo much cheaper ($800) at Amazon. Once delivered, the service was great by the way, and hooked up I was once again amazed at how clean and clear the pictures were. I subscribe to digital cable which makes the picture experience even more breathtaking. There is no glare and once hooked up to the Playstation 3 via HDMI and the XBox 360 via component cable, the gaming experience is to die for in Game Mode. I highly recommend this LCD to anyone.

This is the update of my TV. In now giving it a 3 instead of a 5 star rating. Ive posted the pics. TV is not even a month old and already the TV has dead pixels running from the top of the screen to the bottom, practically dividing the TV in half. Ive contacted Samsung and they sent their repair man out to look at the TV. He claims that its the panel and it needs to be replaced and it would take about 2 weeks to get the panel. After waiting for him to contact me with an update I contacted Samsung again to be told that it cant be replaced but instead they will be replacing it with their newer 2008 model, the LN46A550. Im going to give them a chance with their newer model and hopefully everything will work out with that one. Ill review that one when I get it, according to them in about another 21 days.
A must buy. Especially for gamers.     On: 2008-03-23

Excellent tv, easy to set up with great picture.

Have had difficulty getting an input signal to the AV2 jacks which my son uses for games. I found the program guide less than useful and slow when navigating.

Other than the above, the product is a good value and works well.
Great Value LCD for the Money     On: 2008-03-22

I researched for quite sometime.
We went to Circuit City and compared this set to what we were going to buy. The Sony Bravia line. Without a doubt, I fee right up there at the top. But you pay for them as well. Also the LG Opus line is amazing as well. I feel, still even. The BRavia line is in my number one slot (for a price mind you) The LG Opus Line (120hz) right in there at 2. The Samsungs were 3. For value and bang for the buck. Samsung all the way.
Its all we buy at home and work with computer monitors. When we were a Circuit City when you walked righ up on them. The Samsung was just OK. Keep in mind your viewing distance is suppose to be 5 times the width.
When we stood back they were all the same. Also this molde at CC was $2100. The LGs and Sonys were $2500-$3000. With the way technology is moving I cant see investing in something like this with the Sonys and LGs and spending that kind of cash. Donw the road well move into the bedroom or soemthing. On HD channels this thing is flawless. Very little pixelation bursts, as I refer to them as, if any at all.
On other channels and even some of the HDs it gets sort of poor , only if you are too close to the TV. We have a very big liviing room with 2 couches. When I move back, its fine. it seems to me, (we already have an old LCD Westinghouse LCD 37" 720i) in the bedroom now, when you go over 40" the LCD world opens up to be more vulnerable to flaws. That 37" not matter if we are on HD or not, even non digital. The picture is really good. o pixel breakups. If you are going to be right up on it and within the recommneded viewing area. I would spend the money and buy a beter TV.
When your back they are all good and about the same. I did hook this up through an HDMI cable, which is a must. I also hooked it up throught HDMI to a computer. This TV as a computer monitor in our living room is the most mazing breath taking monitor I have ever been before. wow.
I did buy a nice vidio card as well with some decent ram. I had to buy a DVI to HDMi convetor as well to kee the signal pure digital. Overall, yes we are very happy for $1500 we paid, delivered to the house, set down in our livinig room. Guys were great. Couldnt hook it up right away cause the circuits were cold and had to reach room temp. NO sales tax either.
Whne were on a good HD channl ans sitting back. Its AMAZING. Like I said some of those lower channels are really hurting when watching on a screen this large. Its nothing to do with Samsung as much as the actual size.

thanks
Great LCD HDTV!     On: 2008-03-20

I had researched a wide range of Plasma and LCD HDTVs before I selected the LNT4661. The TV is oustnading; very clear and bright, excellent clarity and resolution, and great ease of use. I have a Sony surround sound and 1080p upscale DVD player attached to the TV with fantastic results. I live in a rural area and hardly got any over the air channels very clear using VHF; the HD UHF signal is great and we enjoy excellent reception with a small HD TV antenna on a shelf.
Samsung LN-T4661F is Great !!!     On: 2008-03-19

I ordered the 4661 on Feb 8 and it arrived six days later on Valentines Day. After over a month of viewing we are thrilled with this LCD HDTV ! I researched for a couple months. Read the CR Ratings (a close 2nd to the Sony Bravia that costs twice as much), numerous customer reviews, plus several trips to the local stores to view LCDs and Plasmas. The 4661 had a picture as good and in most cases better than the competition for a better price. The design of this TV is sleek and beautiful.

We are connected to an HD cable box through HDMI connection. HD picture is absolutely lifelike crystal clear with beautiful color (after tweaking the settings from the now famous "1500 settings" on AVS Forum - The menu system is very easy to navigate with the remote control). You can see the pores in peoples skin and even the veins under their skin. Gee, is that enough detail for you? Contrast and blacks look - great ! Im watching spring training baseball, and it looks - you guessed it - great. This TV also handles SD channels wonderfully for the most part, not at all the horror story you hear from some reviewers. SD picture does depend somewhat on source and content. We have big windows plus a wood stove facing the panel so the 4661s matte screen is a must for us. (I find the look of the matte screen better and more natural than the glossy screen anyway). Absolutely NO reflections.
We also found the sound to be just fine. (If you want your TV to sound like a home theater system, well then you have to buy one, but this units sound is really just fine for TV speakers.) Its plenty loud enough and you can adjust the equalizer to suit your taste. Also love the way the speakers are tucked in underneath, adding to the sleek look of this LCD.
We have not experienced any of the problems Ive read about from some reviewers, and if youll notice, the overwhelming majority of reviews for the 4661 are very positive - thats a good track record.

I am very pleased with the Amazon buying experience. It was easy and went smoothly - no problems at all. Six days to delivery. They brought it in, helped me unpack it, set it up. I plugged it in, it worked, and they took away all the packaging. Its really just that simple and hassle free.

I highly recommend the Samsung LN-T4661F as well as buying from Amazon. You wont regret it.
Samsung 46" TV is Wonderful     On: 2008-03-19

Ordering a 46" tv off the internet is strange, but we trusted Amazon. The tv works beautifully, just the right size screen for us. The cable installer was impressed when he came in to do his thing. Said we picked a good one. This is our first flat screen tv and we dont know what could be wrong for others, but we find nothing wrong at all. You can view from the side easily, the picture is clear with no distortions. We are enjoying it immensely.
Surprisingly disappointing picture     On: 2008-03-18

After reading the reviews and doing a lot of research on AVS forums, I took the plunge. I was upgrading from a 46" 1080i rear projection Samsung. I received the TV and fired it up, everything worked no problem. Unfortunately, the picture didnt look quite up to par. All the reviews say that HD content looks unbelievable, but on my setup it looked really disappointing. I tweaked and played with all sorts of settings, even calibrated it using Avias guide to home theater. No luck. I have an HD-DVD player (I know it lost, but I got it for cheap!) and even this looked disappointing. It turns out that Samsung changed the processor for this unit sometime either late last year or early this year. There is discussion on AVS forums that the picture quality has taken a hit because of this.

In the end I returned this item to Amazon. I want a picture that will blow me away (my old TV really had great picture quality), and this wasnt close. I do have to say that Amazon and CEVA did an excellent job both delivering and picking up the TV. I will definitely buy from Amazon again, I just have to wait to find the right set.
Could not be happier with a new TV     On: 2008-03-18

I did a lot of research into LCD TVs before ultimately choosing this one. Of the 1080p LCD TVs, this one just had the highest value that Ive seen.
I love the style of this TV. Typically Ive noticed of the low end LCD TVs, they might have a decent picture, might even have a decent size with a relatively low cost, but generally they simply look ugly. Samsung did an excellent job of blending style with class for a simply elegant design.
The picture quality is superb. Ive been experiencing all my old DVDs over again from an all new perspective. Its better than watching them in the theatre since the resolution and viewing arclength are so much better.
My only qualm with the TV (which really isnt much of an issue) is that certain frequencies do cause the speakers to buzz above a threshold. Its barely noticeable, and wont matter in the end because I have a surround sound system hooked up to it so you technically dont need the TV speakers. As I said its minor, but if youre an audiophile or if you need the volume really loud, you likely will not want to rely on the TV alone for sound.
Very Impressed     On: 2008-03-15

I caught the HD bug during the holidays when both of my children bought HD televisions for their families. Up to that point I had been very satisfied with my old reliable 27" Sony. After watching tv on the HD units, I started to just look at HD brands, but really had no intention of actually investing that much money in a new tv. HOWEVER... when I found the Samsung LNT4661F unit, I was blown away by: 1. The quality of thepicture 2. The features. 3. The price. I bought the tv on New Years Day and installed it the following week. Every night when were watching tv, I comment to my wife how impressed I am with this tv. The resolution and clairity of the picture still blows me away. If youre looking for a HD tv thats loaded with features, and at a reasonable price, then this tv is a slam dunk. Buy it. You wont be disappointed!
WOW - Super TV!!!     On: 2008-03-13

Just got my HD service yesterday from Time Warner and the picture last night watching American Idol was stunning!!!! I cant get over how good the picture is. When my kids play their XBox 360 on the tv, the detail is also amazing. I did alot of research before picking this TV and Im extremely happy I did.

Also, my family room has 6 large window and my old tv reflected everything from outside like a mirror which was very annoying. With the anti-glare on this tv, there is none. I mean none!! The anti-glare is outstanding!

Highly recommend this tv!

Flawless     On: 2008-03-13

If youre looking for a quality 46" HD TV, you wont be disappointed in this Samsung. I dont have anything negative to report on it.
LOVE this tv     On: 2008-03-12

I bought this TV about a month ago and Im VERY happy with it. I got mine through Electronics Expo through Amazon and shipping was a cinch. It came earlier than expected and the shipper emailed me a tracking number. Ive really had no issues with it, other than some random clicking noises when I first turn on the thing and then again when I turn it off. It doesnt seem to affect the tv performance at all. I have yet to hook up a gaming console but the HD quality through my cable channels is amazing! I also have my Apple TV hooked up to it and its fantastic. I have mine in my tiny one bedroom apartment and its the perfect size. No complaints, quality is great and the tv is light enough to lift on my own.
very good tv     On: 2008-03-10

Great TV; great delivery     On: 2008-03-09

I ordered this tv on 2/29 and it was delivered in less than a week! The price was better than I could find elsewhere and with free shipping this was a pretty easy decision.

Im a fairly cautious buyer and particularly so with such a large ticket item. But I thought Id give this a try given the very favorable reviews Ive read here and elsewhere. The delivery guys were great and after originally giving me a 4 hour window, they narrowed that down to 30 minutes and were right on time.

I unpacked the tv and hooked it up to my directv with hdmi and had the set working within about 5 minutes. This was far easier than I had expected and although I consider myself handy, I know Im fairly limited. But the onscreen instructions were very simple. And, the HD picture is just outstanding. Extremely vivid and colorful picture its going to make watching other televisions in the house difficult!

This set is in our bedroom and there are no extraneous sounds coming from it when its not turned on. I read some reviews posted just recently that someone had experienced this, but no problems here like that. It does make a sound like a video game when turning on or off, but I dont find that bothersome.

All in all a great tv. And, separately, Im also very pleased with the service Ive gotten from Directv. They recently replaced my satellite dish and receivers to allow for greater ht channels (at no charge). The DTV hd channel pictures are extremely sharp and the service has been great.
Great buy     On: 2008-03-09

I was a little nervous about buying an expensive item like this on the internet but everything went very well. The tv was delivered in perfect condition. It was $300 less than Best Buy and Circut City, no taxes (9.25% in Chicago, soon to be 10.25%) and free delivery, its a no brainer. As far as the product goes its great.Beautiful picture, easy to set up,very good instructions. Only suggestion is to take the tv out of the factory setting,It defaults to dynamic picture setting and its way to bright.Great value and great quality for the price.
Don't buy it     On: 2008-03-06

Pros - Good picture quality

Cons - Clicking noise for 30 secs when turning on or off the unit (relays) or when the pic dims and sound quality is just ok, but when you connect to your stereo it has an echo. I muted the TV to just use the stereo and the mute icon stayed on the screen the whole time.
beware of issues turning on the TV     On: 2008-03-06

I was happy with this item for about a month. However, it would occasionally delay when I turned it on. As with the previous review, I would just get a clicking noise for a few seconds. Sometimes it would last for several minutes before the TV would turn on. This got worse and worse, and finally the TV does not turn on at all. It just clicks and the power button flashes red. I have to keep it unplugged now to keep it from clicking and flashing all night long.
Ive had to contact Samsung to set up a repair visit, and the repairman is telling me that it will be a week until some parts he ordered come in. And he doesnt even know if that will help. So Im TV-less for at least a week.
I recommend skipping this TV and buying one with a better track record.

Excellent TV.....after a TON of research     On: 2008-03-03

This replaced an 8-yr old tube TV and is my first step into the HDTV world. I researched for about 3 months via the internet and Consumer Reports. I was most persuaded by CR (Mar08 edition) which ranked this #2 in the 46-47" range behind the Sony Bravia KDL-46XBR5. I give this 4 stars only because this is my first HD and flat-screen TV so I dont consider myself smart enough to give it a perfect score. For my stereo setup, I route both the cable and DVD signals through a Sony receiver via component video input to the TV. Enough of background, here are my details.
COMPARED TO 4665F: I went with this only because of its matte screen compared to the glossy finish of the 4665. The TV is mounted above the fireplace in our living room which opens to the sunroom on the left. There are eight windows and a sliding glass door to the left of the TV (in the sunroom). The kitchen is behind the living room, and we leave its four recessed lights on all of the time. Needless to say, we have a ton of uncontrollable ambient light around the TV. WE DONT HAVE A SINGLE GLARE ISSUE.
SETUP: Tweaked the default settings based on what other folks recommended. That took all of 2 minutes, and the picture is awesome.
SOUND: Have never listened to the sound. I run the sound through my receiver to the surround sound speakers.
DELIVERY: While I didnt read the 2,000+ reviews on this model, I did read enough to see everyone either hated the Eagle delivery or loved it. I LOVED THE DELIVERY. I ordered Thurs night, and Eagle called Monday afternoon. The TV was shipped out of PA and I leave near Norfolk VA. The tracking info on the Amazon web site was time-late because they called me when the web site said the TV hadnt gotten in the state yet. We were moving into our new house so I asked if they could deliver Thurs morning; they adjusted with no issue. Two delivery guys brought it by at the time they told me over the phone and were extremely helpful in getting it in the house and wanted to hook it up to ensure everything worked before leaving. That was part of their job as I had to sign a form to indicate we checked all of the functions before they left.
Overall, I love this TV. I see it lasting for many years.
great deal     On: 2008-03-02

This purchase was well worth the while. I had read previous reviews and only had concerns with the delivery company, however they were very quick and professional. I was able to track my purchase on their website and when it arrived to my city they sent an email for me to call and arrange delivery. It arrived promptly and the technician was very helpful. The TV is awesome and I have no regrets regarding this purchase. The clarity of the TV is wonderful, it has plenty of connections and works well with my home theater system and directv.
Excellent....Buy it!     On: 2008-02-29

Like most, I did a lot of research before deciding on what model HDTV Id buy. I had good past experience with Samsung. I shopped at all the retail outlets where I live, a little reluctant to buy from Amazon. But once I decided on the 4661F I was so pleased with the price I decided to take a chance. Everything went perfectly. Delivery by Eagle (now Ceva where I live) was on time. Start-up was so simple and the many adjustments gave me a wonderful picture. I think the TV sound is adequate but once anyone gets HDTV...you just have to get a sound system/home-theater. One small disappointment, I cant get the Samsung remote to code-in to the Direct TV receiver.
Great LCD     On: 2008-02-28

This TV has a great picture. I agree with the reviews about the black shadows. It has a tendency to be darker at times. But you never have glare. Delivery was great. I was getting the TV 4 days after the Super bowl, and it came the Saturday before the game. Awesome!!! Thanks for the new slim line design, it fit perfect.

Kudos     On: 2008-02-26

You will not be disappointed with this Samsung product. It was billed as the #1 LCD HDTV om the market by a professional A/V installer that I know.
Amazon was by far the best value!!! Service - excellent!!!

works great!     On: 2008-02-25

Just want to add my five star rating. The set arrived in perfect condition and they set it up and turned it on. Great picture, I recommend it. I also recommend the matte screen, no reflections.
Seriously beautiful picture!     On: 2008-02-25

This television is absolutely beautiful, both the design and the picture. We are very pleased and would absolutely buy it again.

We were torn between the LNT-4661 and LNT-4665. Once I saw that the 4665 had a glossy screen, and the 4661 was a matte screen, I was sold. Our room is quite bright during the day, and we have overhead lights in the room at night. So, the glossy screen would have had a distracting glare.

As for buying from Amazon, it was the most pleasant experience. The TV was here in four days - including the weekend! I ordered it Friday night - late - and it was delivered on Tuesday. It came via Eagle. They were very professional and our delivery man was kind enough to help us downstairs with our old TV.

I would very much recommend buying this TV from Amazon.
Great TV     On: 2008-02-25

Great TV. If you order any TV from Amazon make sure you give them a phone number you can be reached at all day. My TV arrived a full week later only because the freight company couldnt get in touch with me. It was my fault. I thought they were tele-marketers and ignored their call. They sent me a letter and then delivered it the day after I called them.

Another satisfied customer     On: 2008-02-25

Ive owned this set for a month now and am completely satisfied. The fit and finish are classy. Not to mention the picture is what you expect from Samsung. Right out of the box its plug and play. The screen isnt the high gloss type found on higher models which suits me fine.
WTF!!! DO NOT BUY     On: 2008-02-24

This TV is a royal P.o.S. The first unit I received had a dead pixel. Amazon was great and replaced it quickly. However, the second unit has some kind of crackling sound when I turn the TV on & off. Totally not normal sound. Is anyone else having this problem?? Now I am no my third unit which was just delivered this am. If this unit is also defective I am buying a Sony oh and at Best Buy!!
Glad I Bought!     On: 2008-02-24

Just received the set 2 days ago. Set up was extremely easy. Out of box, plug in and working in 3 minutes. Too early to give overall rating but after 48 hours I am favorably impressed. This is my 1st LCD HD and now I am sorry I waited so long. The delivery service was excellent though I had some real doubts about shipping an item this large and expensive. Eagle called on Friday with a 4 hour window for next day, they showed on time, uncrated, help me set up and offered to dispose of the box. Could not have been smoother!
Samsung 4661     On: 2008-02-23

Great tv, glad I got the 4661 with the matt screen, no reflection. Amazon was prompt. I did call EGL for an earlier delievery, I recomend that you do that as it came over a week earlier than scheduled delievery time. They took it out of the box and made sure we were working before they left. Im using HDMI cables and had them ready before delievery. Very happy with the tv and set up and Amazon saved me $300.
No doubt about LNT4661...it's great!     On: 2008-02-22

Weve had the LNT4661 one month now. Its simply great!

Picture in HD channels- phenomenal. Get HD channels thru satellite providers (we have Direct TV). NFL-HD you gotta have it if you like football, HD Theatre (Channel) is out of this world, CNN HD is one of the best pictures!

Advantage over others (including other Samsungs)- For starters, NON-Glare screen. The next model up - LNT4665 is a shiny glary screen).

Picture in SD- Not as good as HD (ofcourse...), but nowhere near as bad as some have described. Got to get the settings right (read the manual). The Cable guy set it up wrong for us too!

Sound- its also not bad, even has built-in surround sound. But SO much better with a home theater, we got the Samsung home theater HT-W70 (W for wireless rear speakers!). Get it at SAMs Club for $100 lower than any out there! It works great with the TV remote (Nirvana).

Amazon Experience: THE BEST people and PRICE- Guaranteed for 30 days. My 1st purchase on-line ever and Id do it again. Do your comparisons and youll see that Amazon cant be beat, no tax, free shipping, delivered to your TV Stand, literally...

THIS IS A BUY! No Doubt.

I know how hard it was trying to decide, LCD vs Plasma, 720p or 1080p, 60 HTZ or 120 HTZ, 46 inch OR 42, brand name...its a new technology. Do your research and come to your own conclusion. See it first in person at your local electronics store, side by side with others, its better at home!

In a couple of weeks, youll wonder how you ever lived without it! Really!

Great TV and Great Delivery     On: 2008-02-21

Hello,

This is a beautiful TV that has such great colors you cannot really believe it. I have never seen such pictures as you do when watching a Blue Ray Disc. Eagle Delivery was also great. I had no issues. Also Amazon matched the lowest price that I saw the TV for and gave me back nearly $80 from what I paid. All you have to do is call and that is no problem to get someone to help you. I LOVE Amazon and the products they sell. Get this TV. You will not be upset. I cannot comment on the speakers as I have hooked through a stereo system. Also nice wide base.
Great TV     On: 2008-02-21

I had this tv for nearly 3 months and am very satisfied with my purchase. In the beginning the brightness of the tv is a bit overwhelming in a dark room but after a few hours it will adjust to normal. 720p and 1080p video is exceptional and will measure up against any tv in the 10:000 to 1 contrast arena. The only knock I have against this tv is that in dark scenes, it is hard to see the picture clearly. Its a disappointment but this may be common in many LCD tvs. Other than that great tv and great deal from Amazon.
Best value     On: 2008-02-21

This is my first "big screen" TV. I spent about a week looking for information. It was pretty clear that it received well above average reviews. I did a non-scientific, side-by-side comparison with a similar Sony and was not able to tell the difference. I was impressed with connectivity and, most important, the price.

I was impressed when set up at home. My main concern is the slow response speed to switching inputs. It is now part of my HTPC.
Beautiful HD picture, when you can even see it...     On: 2008-02-19

I ordered this TV on a Monday and received it that Friday. I suppose I live close to a distribution center since Ive read many reviews and most seemed to take longer to deliver. My husband and I were very anxious to hook it up (wed been watching a 19" CRT since our 53" Panasonic rear projection HDTV blew up, but not literally,a while back) and fiddle with the settings. At first I was extremely disappointed, but I think I was just looking at it too closely. You really need to give yourself 10 feet to see the picture at its best. Our living room is large, and we have it set up perfectly, so this isnt a problem. The problem we have with it is that the picture shut off after the first ten minutes. We unplugged it for a few minutes, plugged it back in, and it was back on. My husband called Samsung, they told us to call back after the weekend, so we did, and now we have someone coming out this week. The picture has blacked out three times in the four days weve had this television. It really is a pain, but hopefully well be able to get it fixed. However, when it works, its great.
You dont want to watch standard definition on this set, trust me. It looks...acceptable. HD is awesome. I dont have enough HD channels! The constant resizing of the screen is a bit annoying. Seriously, why cant everything just be the same dang size? Im not a technical person, so dont try to explain it to me. Viewing in 4:3 mode produces a twinkly-flashy line on the top of the screen, so I cannot view anything in 4:3 mode because that will drive me crazy.
I purchased an upconverting DVD player that is also a must-have while you wait for prices to drop on the Blu Ray. I cannot stop watching movies on this TV.
Oh, another con: the black frame and stand is a DUST MAGNET. It comes with a cleaning cloth, but I use a lint-free cloth with a bit of water, and that works just fine for me.

HD channels are the best. Non HD fair at best     On: 2008-02-18

I got this TV about a month ago. The delivery was great. The setup was easy.

The HD channels are the best out there. No doubt in my mind. The non HD channels are fair in some instances, and unwatchable in others. I have tried to see if it is the way the channel is sending the program or is it the TV. I am still not sure. For instance if I watch my local news on our ABC affiliate, the shots in the studio are so clear it is almost scary. However, if they go to a remote shot, it is not only blurry, but if there are people in the distance, it is so bad that it is almost impossible to tell they are people. If there are trees, the leaves look like vertical lines.

I hope most of this will go away once all channels are broadcast in digital format. I currently have Comcast cable so I am not sure that the problem may even be from them.

I would have rated this TV a 4 or even maybe a 5 if the non HD channels were better. I realize that analog channels are not that good on an LCD TV. However, my brother and sister both have LCD TVs and I have never seen there non HD pictures as bad. I hooked up my PC to it and it is great. I tried some of the settings suggested in different forums such as avsforum. Althouh the non HD channels looked a little better, the HD channels looked the same as the non HD channels.

I hooked up a blue-ray disk player to it and it is unbelieveable. Best picture I have seen.

I hope I havent changed anyones mind about getting this TV. I do like it. Just very disapointed in "some" of the non HD reception.
Samsung LNT4661F     On: 2008-02-17

The picture is amazing but the sound quality is dissappointing. I was limited by the space I had to put it in so my decision was based largely on the size and the review from Consumer Reports (who said the sound quality was excellent). If I had unlimited space I would get a TV with larger speakers on both sides.

After a couple weeks of research, I chose the Samsung 46" 1080p and love it. The delivery was made a little sooner than expected. The box was in perfect shape much to my relief. I was so concerned of the condition of the packaging and the product. It looked as if it came from the store across town instead of across the country.
If you purchase an HDTV, dont expect fine detail unless you receive HD signals. Standard cable or satellite signals are actually worse on a large screen than standard tvs. HD signals will make the screen come alive. X-box and ps3 players with HD games are amazing. The detail is like nothing youve experienced before.
Would I do this again? You bet. Right now Im saving for a 52" or larger LCD LED with contrast ratios of 100,000 or more.
Awesome TV     On: 2008-02-15

This television is simply amazing. I did my research in advance of purchasing this unit, and there is a good reason it was the top rated set in its class and category. The picture quality in HD is eye-popping, with outstanding contrast in light and dark room conditions. Standard definition looks lousy on such a set, however, so wait to buy if you do not have access to HD programming. One other note: you do NOT need to splash out for an HD converter for this set to receive your local cable channels in high-def! The tuner that comes with the set will give you anything that does not require a subscription. If you get 50 channels without a set top box, then you will get those plus their HD counterparts (in this respect, Comcast was better than Verizon FiOS). Still, HD is soooo good on this set, you will want access to as many HD channels as you can get!

By the way, you can see a difference on this set between 720p and 1080i programming. My mother has the LNT4051 (40" set), and she cannot.
Very good product..     On: 2008-02-14

I recommend this TV!!

Still happy after three months of use.     On: 2008-02-11

Maybe youre not like me. Maybe you dont hook up a laptop to your big-screen TV. Lets say, though, that you do. What would you expect? Perfect picture resolution? Near HD quality from XViD and DiVX encoded videos? If you said "yes"... youre absolutely correct.

This is a wonderful TV. Inputs for all sorts of video, a USB link, a very useful remote, the list has been enumerated already. I love it, and it impresses everyone who comes by and sees it. And for under 2k shipped to my door, and unpacked in my house? Unbeatable.

Great TV! Very good picture. So lite I cant believe for it size.
We love the matt finish screen. No glare... Item arrived very quick!
Thanks for an easy purchase Amazon! Thanks for the credit when the priced dropped $50 too!
Great HDTV     On: 2008-02-11

The Samsung LNT4661F 46" 1080p LCD HDTV is a great TV and a bargain. Was skeptical of ordering on-line especially after reading a couple of negative reviews. However, the unit proved them wrong. It was just about as easy as plug-and-play on the computer. I use DishNetwork as the source and am very pleased with the pictured delivered. Using BluRay for highdef DVD is excellent and makes you feel as if you have been in the theater.

The colors are brilliant and I have found no problem with "smear" when the camera pans across a field of view.

Thanks SAMSUNG

Great TV, Great Price, Great Service!     On: 2008-02-10

Did a lot of research before deciding on the Samsung LCD. Now that we have it we are very pleased with it.
Amazon, as always, provided a great price and great service. (In fact,I got $41 back from their price guarantee, because the price decreased after we bought it).
Eagle delivery worked out very well. Delivered on time, unpacked the TV, set it up and made sure everything was working correctly.
Id highly recommend buying a TV from Amazon!!
Great Buy Great Picture Great TV     On: 2008-02-10

This TV is easy to set up and easy to use. The picture is great. I did a lot of shopping around and actually picked this TV out in store, then went online to Amazon for the great price and free shipping. The delivery man waited to make sure it was working before leaving in order to save us the hassle if the TV was damaged. The delivery came on time and they were very courteous and called before coming. The viewing angles are great, the picture is even and clear throughout, and the sound is good enough. We have it hooked up to surround sound but the TVs sound system works well. Blue Ray and HD look amazing on this tv and for the price it cant be beat!
Wow is an understatement!!!!     On: 2008-02-09

I HAD to take time to write a review on this TV. Ive had it for a few days and cannot stop telling people about it. I know some will say its just a TV, but its a beauty especially with other TVs at this price. Im not an electronics guru, but it was so simple to set up and get started with my new HD satelite system.

TV was ready right out of the box. Able to Plug-N-Play immediatey. Easy connections to hook up cable/HDMI/Components. TV swivels on its base for easy access to the back.

Most importantly..the picture is amazing. i did my consumer research and opted to buy this Samsung over a newer model in the store (much more $$$) and I could not be more impressed. As a previouse review stated... BUY THIS TV!
Good TV     On: 2008-02-09

The picture on this tv Is really good. The down side to this tv is it has to have a strong signal to get the digital channels without a cable box from your local cable company. I get some of the High Def channels and they come in clear as a bell. The anilog channels are so good Im not going to get a cable box at this time. But when the cable company starts adding channels to digital and not anilog Ill switch to direct TV. All in all this is a really good TV.

Don't expect to get any service from Samsung when you need it.     On: 2008-02-09

Im writing this on 2/8/08 and Ive been waiting for my Samsung LNT4661F to be fixed by Samsung or one of their service affiliates since December 2007. Heed this warning: Do not expect to get any service from them if you have a problem. This is my story. I ordered the Samsung LNT 4661F on 12/3/08 from Amazon. They shipped via Eagle and it arrived 12/11 one day early. The Eagle people brought it in and set it up for me. The picture was beautiful and I was impressed. So far so good, right? After about 10 days however I noticed a vertical line creeping up from the bottom of the screen to the top. I called Samsung and they gave me a service order number and told me that the Video Doctor in Santa Clarita would contact me and take care of it. I waited a week but heard from no one. I called Samsung again and this time they gave me the phone number of Pauls in Granada Hills. I called Pauls and I was told that as soon as they got the service notice from Samsung they would call me. Two weeks pass and no phone call. So I call Samsung again, they tell me to call the Video Doctor in Santa Clarita again. So I did. I talk to a guy named Edgar. He asks me to describe the problem and so I do. The vertical line has now gotten 1/2" wide with a 2" x 2" patch at the top which makes the screen look like its bleeding. I ask Edgar to come over and check it out. He says there is no need to because he knows that the LCD screen needs to be replaced. He asks me to go to the right side of the screen and read him the model number, the serial number and the version number, which I do. Then he asks me to email the Amazon receipt so he can order a replacement screen, I do this also. Two weeks pass, I call the Video Doctor, and I ask the status of my repair. The woman asks for my name and number and tells me shell find out and call me back. Another two weeks pass and no phone call. I called the Video Doctor today, when I complain about their lack of service I am told that it takes a long time to get a replacement LCD and I am free to seek service from another dealer. I called Samsung today to complain and they tell me that someone will call me right back. Guess what? No call back. I have called Samsung or their service affiliates at least 6 times to try to get my flat screen repaired. And despite their promises I have not received one call back. Its now been close to 2 months since I first called for service. Im hoping that someone from Samsung reads this and comes to my aid but Im not holding my breath. Service order #4001872763.

Hey, its at least $400 cheaper than your local electronics super store, plus you get free delivery, and a 30 day money back guarantee. What more can you want? You cant go wrong with this one folks. Enough research already. Buy it. Buy it now. And buy it from Amazon!

We are pleased with the purchase of this HDTV for our "Man Cave". Great price for a wonderful HDTV!!! It is perfect for our room to watch action videos, sports, etc. We would definitley recomend this to a friend.
Our only complaint is that the picture can get skewed if you are sitting in a certain area. This is defined in consumer reports and is normal for this type of HDTV. We were aware of this when we purchased the item

This LCD TV was purchased through me for my son. It was delivered to me, since my son was working, and it arrived on time and in perfect condition. He loves his Samsung because of the looks of the TV, and performance. He has a "Blue Ray" disk player connected to it and tells me that Blue Ray HD movies make you think that you are on the movie set, due to the sharpness of the screen.Samsung LNT4661F 46" 1080p LCD HDTV

When my trusty 17 year old 27" CRT TV died the Tuesday before the Superbowl I was crushed. I did some research and fairly quickly decided on a Samsung HDTV. I really wanted to have a new TV for the Superbowl, but did not want to pay about $500 more from the big box stores, so I ordered from Amazon on Wed 1/31/08. I ordered the Samsung LNT4661F 46" 1080p LCD HDTV. To my pleasant surprise, it was in the local Eagle/CEVA delivery facility on 2/1/08. I took the advice of other posters and called my local Eagle/CEVA depot and scheduled the delivery for Saturday 2/2/08. Yes, Saturday!!! Delivery was promised to occur between 10am and 5pm. At 10:30 am the delivery truck arrived. Two delivery men brought the box inside, unpacked it, placed it in my entertainment unit, and powered it up for my inspection. The TV was flawless; no damage or dead pixels.

The picture is absolutely amazing. Crisp & sharp with vibrant colors. I would definitely recommend this set to anyone.

Thanks to Amazon for selling this set at a great price; thanks to Eagle/CEVA for getting this to me so quickly in perfect condition in time for the Superbowl.

All in all. A great shopping experience.

The neck of my Samsung LN-S4695D supplied TV stand broke after 8 months and the 75 pound TV came crashing to the floor. Others have reported the same problem, the neck is all plastic and cannot support the weight of the TV. I have to give their service 5 stars they replaced the TV with a brand new LN-T4661F which has a stronger neck and stand.

This is a great TV. It arrived as promised and the carrier unpacked the set which appeared to be in perfect condition. He plugged it in to see if it worked and it was fine. I wall mounted the TV and hooked it up. It provides a great picture and sound. I am very happy with the purchase. I checked the price about three week after my purchase and the unit was being offered for $300 less. I sent an E-mail to Amazon. They gave me a $300 credit that same day. It doesnt get much better than this.
Great LCD TV at a Great Price     On: 2008-01-28

Went shopping online the day after Christmas after researching whether or not to get a Plasma or an LCD TV, 720p vs 1080p. Decided LCD was the best technology for me. Picture is great. Easy to setup and hook up to surround sound, xBox 360, Wii, etc. We love it!!! Price at Amazon was great and shipped in 5 days.
Awesome TV.     On: 2008-01-28

Ive been wanting a 1080p LCD set for awhile now. This tv rocks compared to my last tv which was a 50" dlp by samsung. I play alot of xbox games and watch a ton of blu-ray movies on my ps3. Everything HD I throw at it is beautiful and crisp. SD channels are not the best but it was expected. The tv itself is very slick. Fingerprints and pawprints can be a problem, along with dust. Some other reviews I have read were bashing on the speaker quality, but any one knows, 5.1 or higher surround sound is a must for any HDTV. I would recommend this TV to anyone who can afford it.

This is a great TV! I ordered it just before Christmas and even though the anticipated delivery date was 2 weeks it came in four days. The delivery people were great, set it up, tested it out, and didnt leave until the picture was fine (which didnt take long as the tv worked great right out of the box). I am really pleased with the picture and would definitely recommend this product and process.

Great TV, great price.

I ordered the TV to watch the national championship game. It was great as was the outcome of the game.

My only complaint is the rattle from the speaker that occurs sometimes. Other than that I am well pleased with the TV. The picture almost looks like the real thing.

It was a good buy.

After "researching" lcd televisions I was convinced to buy the Sony Bravia. (rated best buy from consumer reports) The number one rated was the Samsung...but too much money. For some reason the Samsung dropped in price after christmas drastically. I could not find one a store had in stock so after looking through Amazon I found it for @1300 total. It said it would arrive 6 - 8 days and it took exactly 8 days. Just so you realize the delivery was nothing. They literally brought the tv inside the house and we signed. It took my husband and I with some help from our kids to get it in the basement. We were able to connect it but I still do not think the settings are the best..... I think if we would have bought it through a store we would have had better luck with the picture quality....Now we have to have somebody come to the house and help fix the settings.
Nice TV so far     On: 2008-01-26

I witheld my review on this product until my HD programming was set up. I am impressed with the picture clarity and color. Standard TV doesnt show well with this tv so try to get an HD package that gives you as many channels as possible. I think overall this is the best 46" 1080p LCD for the money on the market. You will not go wrong with this TV. I considered the Sony Bravia but could not justify the additional $$ for only a modest difference in quality.

I paid $1549 for this set, no taxes and free delivery! Try to beat that at Best Buy!
The picture is phenomenal, the sound is great. I dont know what all the whining is about elsewhere on the reviews.
Eagle were great, courteous and very quick. Bought this on a Monday had it delivered and set up by the Saturday!
I am thinking about buying another one for the house as well. Might as well use Bushs tax rebate to help the economy!

Wife and I Love Our New Samsung     On: 2008-01-23

Purchased my 4661F on Dec 31st. Delivered to my home on Jan 9th by Eagle Logistics. 2 young and personable men brought the TV into my living room, unboxed it, set it up on the stand and plugged it in to make sure everything was working fine. They also offered to take the box away which I decided to keep in the event of a major problem in the first month. I am very happy with Eagle Logistics, although I was a bit apprehensive about having such a large purchase delivered to my home.Everything went smooth as silk.
Now, on to the TV. Beautiful picture in HD, better than my 42" Sony KDF-E42A10 and I thought the Sony had a great picture. The only area that the Sony is better is when watching SD channels. Speakers are adequate for normal viewing. (I have surround sound system for Movies).
Would I buy this TV again? You Bet! Amazon Price was great, $1479.00 with free delivery. Love the non glare screen, 46" perfect from 10ft away. If you are in the market for a reasonably priced 46" LCD, this is the one to buy.

The price on this excellent set varied on Amazon over the weeks leading up to Christmas 2007. I decided to buy this model in early November when it was listed for $1999. The price dropped a $100 or so per week until the holidays. I ordered just before Xmas for $1480 with free shipping and had it up and running by new years eve. After the holidays it went back up to $1699. Go figure. Very pleased with the set.
The Window to the Soul     On: 2008-01-22

After window shopping for a reasonably priced HD display, it did not take long at all to zero-in on the Samsung 4661F. It easily stood out among a wall of higher name brands like Sony, Sharp, and Pioneer and was nearly half the price of a comparable Sony Bravia. My previous television was a Samsung 25" CRT that I owned for 15 years but was hardly a determinant in going with the choice of brand again for an LCD display. The simple fact is, the Samsung LCDs just looked that much better.

I was mainly attracted to the 4661F primarily for its non-glare screen. I did a side-by-side comparison in the store at Best Buy, in full daylight, against the Samsung LNT4665F 46" 1080p LCD HDTV, the next model up, and what turned me off from the 4665 was the reflective glare on the glossy screen that looked like you were staring directly into an opaque mirror in blacks. The non-glare screen on the 4661F is perfect for watching movies and naturally lends itself to an authentic film projected look. The 4665 may boast a higher contrast ratio than the 4661F (15000:1 vs. 10000:1) but unless you have bionic vision, are not really going to discern a noticeable difference in contrast blacks. Contrast levels can easily be adjusted in the setup menus with presets for Dynamic, Standard and Movie modes or levels can be adjusted manually as desired and saved as programmable user presets. The cold cathode backlight can also be adjusted for overall brightness. The other feature I like with the 4661F is the round power button below the face of the screen that has a spiffy initialization chime. The newer Samsung models have an annoying blue LED glow on the front panel that I find distracting but was told could be disabled.

Setting it up was a piece of cake. I had it out of the box and mounted to the wall above the fireplace in minutes with a Sanus VMPL50B Universal Flat Panel TV Wall Mount Bracket, Black that screws into the back of the display easily and safely. No need to pay extra for costly installation. In no time at all I was christening my 4661F with my Blade Runner (Five-Disc Ultimate Collectors Edition) [Blu-ray] and Close Encounters of the Third Kind (30th Anniversary Ultimate Edition) [Blu-ray] in astonishing 1080p hi-def glory. The picture quality is sharp, vibrant, and crystal clear. Ill never have to leave the house to see a movie again.

The Samsung 4661F was the easiest choice of buying a television I have ever made and I couldnt be happier with my purchase. If youre thinking about making the transition to HD, you cant go wrong with the Samsung 4661F. The choice is as clear as the picture.

The no glare screen is perfect if you have a lot of light in your room. This TV has a great picture and the sound is so so, but Ive got mine hooked up to surround sound so it doesn"t really matter. I know of two other people with exactly the same TV and they also love it.
60" Mitsubishi projection to Samsung 46" LCD     On: 2008-01-22

TIME FOR A NEW BIG-SCREEN

My 60" Mitsubishi rear projection began to show signs of impending failure (blue gun slow to align after power up) and so began the search for a replacement.
The research began with reading everything about the differences in LCD, Plasma and DLP. Due to the size of the old TV the initial thought was to go with DLP. The equivalent size of a 60" (4:3) TV is 73.4" (16:9). DLPs are typically less expensive per inch than the other two technoligies. However, the DLP was scratched from listfor two reasons: the required replacement of the bulb and reluctantly deciding to go smaller.

PLASMA OR LCD

Plasma took the led over LCD during the next phase of research. Again, the size (at around 55") was less expensive than similar sized LCD screens. Reading more about the Plasma it was evident they were prone to "wash-out" if viewed in a sunlit room. This would be an issue in my case. Besides, the shiny glass surface on the Plasma could also be a distraction. The old rear projection had an anti-glare screen on it. Therefore, due to the washout and reflection issues Plasma took a step back.

LCD

Now time to research LCD. It appeared Plasma had an edge when it came to contrast. The Plasma blacks were blacker and whites were whiter. However, LCDs are catching up. So, the contrast ratio became a major specification for each TV being sized up. At the time of this study 15000:1 was as good as it got. Most were still 10000:1. These specs were roughly the same as those on the Plasmas. I was also concerned about the refresh rate. The faster the better, especially for what I would be viewing mostly---football.
There were not many affordable 55" LCDs. So, due to my budget constraints LCDs in the 46" to 50" range were the target. Sams Club, Best Buy, Target, Wal-Mart, and Circuit City were visited to view the host of 46-50 inch LCDs. Suprisingly there were very few 50" LCDs. So, 46-47 inch LCD became the best bet. The size was also best suited for the space and budget.
When viewing LCD TVs in person it was quite easy to see which ones were better than others. I had the store staff put on ESPN so I could compare the graphics between the TVs. It also had the side benefit of seeing fast video and how the TV would respond. It quickly became obvious to my eyes that the Samsung and the Sony were tops. However, the price of the Samsung was superior.

SAMSUNG WINS OUT

Once the first cut was complete, I looked up the most recent reviews in Consumer Reports. What do you know---the 4665F was number one! Of course, their top three were probably all basically winners. It was just nice to validate the research against Consumer Reports.
It should be noted that I never intended to use the TVs speakers. Instead I use a separate sound system. So, if sound of the TV is an issue I have nothing to add. It was never a consideration for me. Although it could be for you.
So, I narrowed the choice down to the Samsung 4665F LCD and began looking for the best price. I was hopeful that there would be a big sale before the 2007 Christmas season---there wasnt. I had already heard that the big "after Christmas" and "before Super Bowl" sales were not to be repeated like in early 2007. Still I held out hope.
The best price was found on Amazon.com. It was only about $20 less than Circuit City. However, shipping was free and there would be no sales tax (another $82). So, I waited to see if the price would drop after Christmas.
While I waited my father-in-law and I visited Circuit City to help him in buying a smaller (40") LCD. During our visit we noticed a major difference between the 4665F and the 4661F: The 4665F has a much shinnier screen than the 4661F. So, after much debate I decided to save another $100 by going with the 4661F versus the 4665F. (Since then the prices of both have increased.)
The day after Christmas I pulled the trigger and bought the 4661F from Amazon.com. Although very Internet savvy and an eBay consumer, I had never purchased anything so expensive and fragile from an Internet store. So, I was more than a little apprehensive. I read the reviews about Amazon and about the shipper (Eagle Global). I read them all (187 total). The good and the bad. I held my breath.

HDMI VS COMPONENT CABLES

While I waited for the TV to arrive I researched the difference between HDMI and Component video and their associated cables. The comparison is very similar to LCD versus Plasma. The advantage between the two depends. I ordered both cables to compare them myself. At the time I had priced them out locally: $49.99 for HDMI and $19.99 for Component. However, Amazon had the HDMI for $0.23. (Yes, 23 cents!) Of course, there was $4.95 shipping, but it was worth the risk to save so much. The Component cable on Amazon was only $12.00. Both cables arrived before the TV. Both cables were 6 feet cables with gold plated connectors.
Unfortunately, my cable company had a major run on HD boxes before Christmas, so when I took my digital cable box in to trade it for an HD one, I was disappointed to hear I would have to wait for at least two weeks! That two weeks turned into four! So, I knew I would have to hook up my LCD to an inferior cable box.

SHIPPING

The day finally came! The delivery company (Eagle Global) called to set up a time to deliver the TV. They brought it in, helped my unload it from the box, allowed me to power it up and hook up my Sony Handycam to test the video. It all looked fine. Granted, it was only composite video not HD.
I hooked up the TV to my existing non-HD cable box via the RF connector knowing the signal would be sub-par until I could get the HD box. I attached my VCR via a composite cable---again knowing this signal would also be less than wonderful (but would carry the closed captioning I used when my father-in-law visits, as does the RF signal.) My DVD/CD combo is old and not HD either, but it did have component video out. So, I used my new component cable to hook up the DVD player to the TV.
Of course, the signals were less than impressive in their analog state, but that was to be expected and the HD experience I would have later would make me appreciate the difference. However, the DVD signal was digital, even though it is not 1080p it still looked outstanding. I plan on adding an upconverter DVD to play old DVDs. Im looking the Oppo 980 it even comes with a HDMI cable (more to follow after I get it).

I decided to align the TV to the CNET calibration codes, but those numbers just didnt work for me. Most likely due to my lighting situation in the room or not being HD. So, I reset all the settings to the factory ones, and adjusted only the contrast and back light settings. I used the calibration program found on the Disney "Toy Story" DVD to adjust the contrast. I centered the backlighting at 5. I noticed for my room "movie" mode works best, since I normally only watch TV in the early evening. I expect the "standard" mode my work well during daytime watching.

ZOOM FEATURE

The zoom functions of the TV are great. I can avoid "burn-in" (2 hours of the same graphics on the screen) by simply pressing the "psize" button until I cycle through the 6 various zoom setting until I find the best one for the show Im watching. I can even move the screen up or down. Again, this is all without HD cable.

HIGH DEFINITION

Since my local cable company could not provide a HD box, I decided to hook-up my existing cable directly to my TV and let the TV program the channels. It took about 30 minutes, but all the local HD channels were found and look amazing!!!
The day finally arrived when my HD cable box was installed. WOW!!!! Im glad I was able to see the difference between the signals. Our area gets 22 HD channels including fortunately the ones I normally watch (NFL on FoxHD, CBSHD, NBCHD, HISTHD, and HGTVHD). The color from our cable company is different between their HD signal and the standard signal. The yellows and reds are pure on HD while on the SD channels they are less than perfect. So, obviously when you adjust your TV use the channels youll watch most.
While viewing the AFC Championship game during the day (in the brighest conditions for the room) the TV performed as advertised. There was very little, if any, washout. The TV was barely affected by the bright lighting conditions. Also, the windows were not visible as a reflection on the screen at all. (The 4665F would have been noticable and problematic.)
I dont have the Oppo yet, but when I get it Ill let you know how it goes. Im expecting to be Wowd again!!!

SUMMARY

I took my time and did my research. I viewed all the TVs in person. I asked the salesmen questions. I was able to view the differences from various video signal sources. I am more than happy and very content on my purchase. Additionally, I chose NOT to get the extended warranty. Im hopeful the manufacturers one year warranty wont even be needed, but according many of the reviews its on-site if its needed.
If youre concerned about ordering such an expensive item from the Internet, rest assured. It youre worried about the shipper, dont be. We use them at work to ship all over the World. They may not be UPS or FedEx, but I was very happy with them.

THANKS AND HAPPY HUNTING

Finally, I am extremely grateful for all the reviews posted---both good and bad---they helped me and my decision. I hope my experience has helped you and your decision.

Samsung LNT4661F LCD HDTV - AWESOME!!!!     On: 2008-01-21

Samsung LNT4661F 46" 1080p LCD HDTV

I read the reviews for this model in CNet and Amazon and they are right on target. Great picture, easy set up.

Got to say that the Delivery service used was great. They called me the night before and worked with my schedule to deliver the TV.

The tv itself has a great picture and even from the side there is no discernible loss in clarity. Im very happy with this purchase.

Outstanding price, delivery was on time (during Christmas season!), delivery people were great setting the unit up. Goes w/o saying that you will need to upgrade your cable/satellite box to HD if you havent already. Only minor quibles would be w/ the enclosed remote - not enough capability for all functions on DVD player. Otherwise, one very happy camper!
Great TV for the Price     On: 2008-01-21

I bought this TV in December. I had no problems with shipping. The guy actually came in and opened it for me to make sure there was no shipping damage. I had it setup in less than an hour. The directv image looks good, but the HD image is excellent!! I bought an antenna, mounted the TV in my living room and have been LOVING the HD quality. There are plenty of hook-ups in the back. If I had to say anything negative, it would be that I havent figured out how to manually add "air" channels. It will do the automatic set-up, but I dont get reception on all channels at one time with me directional antenna. Anyway, for the price this is a GREAT TV!!

Good TV     On: 2008-01-20

So far so good. This TV is very good, the only shame is that i dont have any content in 1080p to show on its beautiful screen, but im planning on buying a blu-ray player soon to really see its full potential.
Extremely happy with this TV     On: 2008-01-20

This is our first HDTV and we love it. Amazon beat any local price by a few hundred dollars and our experience with Eagle was great. 5 days from order to delivery. We also bought a multi directional antenna from Amazon and set it on top of a speaker pointed in the direction of our closest TV market(Toledo) and are pulling in local stations we never got before that are HD. Just dont want to pay $20 MORE a month to the satellite company on top of what we pay now. So far so good.

Fantastic HDTV! You can't go wrong with this one!     On: 2008-01-19

The picture and clarity for this TV is amazing. I was worried that a 46" TV would be too big for my living room TV area but its a perfect fit. If youre watching standard definition TV in 4:3 viewing mode, you still get the screen real estate equivalent to a 37" standard TV! Blu-ray discs look absolutely amazing through my PS3 on this TV. I couldnt be happier with my purchase. There is no motion blurring whatsoever, so dont worry about the lack of 120 Hz processing. I have noticed some macro blocking on some HDTV channels, but that is either because of a weak signal or the broadcast itself or even the type of camera the recording stations used. Dont worry its not the TVs fault at all. Make sure you get a good surge protector with expensive electronics like this. I have calibrated my picture settings to maximize picture quality. The settings are a little off out of the box. Here they are:

46 INCH LCD     On: 2008-01-19

Bought the LNT4661F from Amazon about five months ago and view it over TW cable. I am very well pleased with the picture and have no complaints about the sound. I did adjust the picture to my liking using recommendations found in forums over the Internet. This model has a non-reflective screen which is perfect for viewing in lighted rooms and during the brightest part of the day. HDTV is great and the non-HD channels view better than with my old analog set. Buy the LNT4661F, you will love it.
Watch the price on this one...     On: 2008-01-18

If you like this TV - like I do ( and the "TV Guru" at my local Circuit City) - put in in your cart and wait for the price drop. I just bought one here for $1,549 - after watching the price go up and down, up and down.

It seems to go up for a 24-hour period to $1,699, then drop back down to $1,549... so watch the price and you might score a deal!
Great TV; Great Buy     On: 2008-01-18

I did some research on brand and model and looked at this model at a Circuit City. I bought from Amazon because they had the lowest prices and shipping was Free. The free White Glove service was great! The guy helped me get the TV out of the box, hooked up and running. I have very well lighted room and the TV shows virtually no glare from inside or outside lighting - which is why I chose the LCD over the Plasma! I also like that it has three HDMI inputs (most TVs only have 2). You can hook up a USB thumb drive and view a slide show of personal photos, which is nice added feature and the HD programming looks awesome! I got it installed just in time to watch the NFL playoffs in HD.
Great TV     On: 2008-01-18

This TV is great. Picture quality is nice price was right. No complaints, I would recommend this product to anyone. 46" is really big. I can finally read the TV guide and all of the scrolls on the bottom of the screen. Well worth the upgrade, wish I had done it sooner.

Best TV around for the money     On: 2008-01-18

I bought this Tv from Amazon on sale and I have had it for almost a month now and couldnt be happier. Very sleek external. Inputs are easily accessible and labeled. remote control usage is easy and it has backlight for main functions. I have it connected to a Samsung Blu Ray player and the picture quality is AWSOME. I am not into all the technical details but I can say that it was money well spent and home delivery was free!!!!!.
Top Notch... Totally Awesome!     On: 2008-01-17
