Compared to my old Panasonic 53" projection the picture is a dream, but its quirky. Had the Blue Halos fixed, does have rainbow effect on bright light sources, screen is bowed up about 1/2" at the top right, the occasional crackling from the case is very disconcerting. Twice it has refused to turn on - unplugging "reset" or whatever and then it worked. Hooking up the PC through the HDMI cable is fine, but through VGA it gets some not supported error. The sound sucks unless you turn bass way down, price you pay for compactness.

Compares favorably picture-wise to friends smaller high end LCDs for nearly half the price - for the $1800 its really hard to beat the value for a 61". If it lasts a couple years until the next latest greatest thing ill be happy
ROCK ON     On: 2008-04-26

This television is fantastic! After a little set-up and tweaking the set looks great... Blacks are BLACK and color saturation is breathtaking. I did see some rainbow in the Avia disk but only on a fully white display. If I had to choose again, the outcome would be the same. Great product!
Pretty Good for the price...     On: 2008-04-23

So I must say the TV is pretty big!!! For the price that I bought it for it is well worth it. Obviously its not plasma or lcd but it still is pretty good for a dlp. I have directv so i do get hd channels and the hd channels are pretty nice. It becomes amazing though, when you play stuff on ps3. When the tv uses the full 1080p it is really amazing.
I give it a three star because i had problems with it from day 1. The sound came out distorted and it sounded very funny. So i called amazon and they told me i needed to contact samsung. So i contacted samsung and they brought me a repair guy within about 2 weeks. It seems to be fixed but we will have to see. Its just not comforting knowing you have a brand new tv and it comes with a problem.
I figure I got what i paid for. I got the tv at the lowest possible price so i guess its ok. To get a 61 tv for $1700 is pretty good. Especially cause it is led and you dont need to replace the bulb every so often it makes it worth it.
If you want a big tv with pretty good quality this is a pretty good tv. Like i said its not plasma but if you are willing to pay for it go for plasma. I went for size over quality(not that the quality is bad on this tv) but i figured size is better than quality cause most people cant tell anyway...
Best value for the money     On: 2008-04-20

What a great TV the Samsung 61 is. Terrific colors and very sharp details . It was a real pleasure watching the Masters on the HD channel with the rich greens and other colors coming through. Incredible. I put it next to a 42 plasma and everyone agreed they thought the picture was better. You cant beat the price for quality either. This cost $1000 to $2000 less for comparable LCD or Plasma of the same size. This model even can play the new 3D movies! Very god purchase. Amazon was great too with price and delivery.
Complete Satisfication     On: 2008-04-20

The whole process was a homerun!! From ordering, PRICE, shipping and especially a great TV. If there was something to complain about I would include it in this review---there simply wasnt. Would recommend Amazon to anybody and do so when asked. Couldnt be more pleased with the performance of our Samsung DLP.
Samsung Right on the Mark!!!     On: 2008-04-20

The TV set Im reveiwing Samsung HL-T6187S DLP LED 61" Ok.. i was a little uneasy about buying off Amazon I read almost all the reviews before i purchased and there were some that had trouble right out of the box and other that seemed to have a failure after a period of time and Some with problems getting a repair person to fix the problem and had no TV for months in some cases. And many that had no trouble at all and loved the picture and features of this set.
What gave me the courage to buy from Amazon was. I found out, i could buy a service plan from sears that covered me 100% if you purchase it within 14 days after you accept the TV from amazon.. Contact your local sears electronics salesmen and make sure he would be willing to sell you one.. Mine did and It was a 170 bucks cheaper than the one you buy dirrectly from Samsung and the perks of a sears plan...a single pixcil fails they come out and fix it...I dont call the mfger during that first yr and hope its fixed..I dont wait 2 weeks for a service contractor to come and check it out..we all know Sears when it comes to service plans, their great!! ok back to Amazons end of the set...
The TV came within a timely fashion... I had white glove delivery.. and i tipped the guys 20 bucks, even thou i didnt have to. I have had the TV now for over a month.. and its Flawless... I have put it thru its paces.. I used a high end up converter.. picture excellent... I used a PC with setting of 1920 x 1080.... perfect picture.. and i borrowed a Blue Ray disc player from a bud.... And man.. OH MY GOD!! Awesome Picture... The detail is unreal... Now.. Not to many people know or understand the DLP LED Technology... NO Heat... NO BULBS TO FAIL... NO COLOR WHEEL TO ALINE... sales people everywhere before i bought the TV were like.... Oh DLP is out.. get yourself a plasma or LCD.... but man im telling you... NO Pixcilation you can use this TV as a monitor for your PC the color is awesome I have a bright Room and the contrast comes thru perfect... I have had several people ewwww and ahhhh over the picture while they were viewing a movie.. I cant say enough about this TV..
A word of caution... If you buy this TV and Save yourself a boat load of money... and you cover your TV with a Sears service plan... and you have a great video collection.... You may never get up off the couch again because youll see things in your movies you never saw before and youll be rivited to your seat.... I hope i covered many of the questions your looking for... Enjoy!!!
Great TV, Great price     On: 2008-04-18

I waited and researched it to death, then bit the bullet in Jan. Satisfied ever since. No halos, no ghosting, no haze, no problems with remote....nothing. Watched "Deadliest Catch" on HD for the first time last night....thought I was going to get some dramamine. We had some miscues with the delivery, but found it was my fault as I had not updated our new phone number on our profile. Have not had a 1080p source hooked up yet, looking forward to that.
HLT6187 fits our needs     On: 2008-04-18

Samsung HLT6187SAX 61-inch Slim LED Engine 1080p DLP HDTV
Our 24x26 kitchen/family room addition was designed to have a big screen mounted at a 45 degree angle in one corner. We have been waiting for 3 years for the manufacturers to decide what they wanted to be when they grow up (plasma, LCD, ?) Trusting the combined wisdom of the Amazon customer reviews, we chose the Samsung HLT6187SAX. Given that our interim solution was a 27-inch CRT, it is hard to imagine how we would not be satisfied with the DLP and in fact we are thrilled.
The delivery guy was great. He helped me set the new TV on the stand and subtly coached me to wait for it to reach room temperature (the outside temperature was still in the 20s in this part of Michigan) before turning on the power. (This is what the instruction manual says to do and it allowed him to begin his homeward trip sooner) After waiting impatiently for a few hours, I punched the remote button and everything worked perfectly. The screen is comfortable to view from any location in the room and no problems with the viewing angles. I plugged into an existing low end surround sound system and it gets the job done. Maybe a replacement will be a result of the tax stimulus check? The only complaint I can find is that the autoprogram pulls in a bunch of new channels from the cable. The mechanics of deleting them, to make channel surfing more enjoyable, is cumbersome - it took me about an hour. With the amazing quality of the digital signal, we have not been motivated to contact the cable company to get the high definition package. Maybe we will save that treat for the next NCAA tournament.
Bottom line, we are very pleased with the value of our purchase.
Great TV for the price, speakers are so so     On: 2008-04-17

I think this is a great tv for the money. Great size screen for the money. I mainly bought it over a plasma because no burn in when playing video games for my kids, and the led technology takes the worry out of projection like you have with the bulb/wheel dlp setup. The speaker system is not near as good as my old Toshiba Cinema Series rear projection tv, but it is okay for normal viewing. For movies everybody including me uses a theater surround sound system anyway, but I do view alot of tv at night with the sound provided by the tv, and bass is sadly lacking.

I did not have any of the halo effect with this one, and I am pretty sure with the ones Amazon sells that end in SAX, Samsung has fixed this problem.

I have noticed though that you still get a ghosting effect in the center of the screen from top to bottom. It is simply caused by any reflection in your room, whether it be a ceiling light above, or in my case a light reflection off the hardwood floor from a nearby window. When the set is on and a picture is present, you dont notice it, but if the screen goes dark or black for a second you can see it. I try to watch with low lights and the blinds closed during the day.

I had a Samsung rep. out to verify the above mentioned ghosting was not in fact the halo effect others have experienced, and while he was out he made several adjustments to help with incorrect screen geometry, centering of the picture, and focus. I now know how to do those things myself because I saw him do it, so that is nice in case I need to change anything minor later.

As for picture adjustment, the standard, movie, or dynamic settings as they come default are not right at all in my opinion. I fought with it for about a week, and broke down and bought Digital Video Essentials to help me calibrate the picture. I think it looks great now, and I am sure a Pro calibration might look a little better, but I am happy with mine the way I did it, and saved $300 to $500 to get it done professionally.

Overall, happy so far.

The only thing left to do is buy an extended warranty, and you have to do it before 90 days from the end of your standard 1 year warranty or its too late.
Beautiful picture!!     On: 2008-04-17

Samsung makes a great product - I love my new HDTV! Beautiful sound and crystal clear picture!!
Just plain SWEET!!!     On: 2008-04-17

I love it. The best purchase (and the most expensive) Ive ever made on Amazon.com. Search the web and youll find thousands of great reviews on this TV so Ill only mention a few things. First the home deliver was fast, courteous, and on time. Second, most features have already been covered but I really like the USB port. It allows me to quickly download some music on a thumb drive/memory stick and instantly play it back through the on screen menu. I must also mention that I have invested a lot of money in my sound system so I dont use the mediocre TV speakers. I still cant this TV cheaper through a local merchant.
couldn't be happier     On: 2008-04-15

I couldnt be happier with this purchase. I have recommended this TV to many people after my purchase. The picture is great, the sound is better than some reviews had lead me to believe. My TV does not have the blue halo effect that had been reported in earlier models.
samsung 61' DLP LED     On: 2008-04-15

Amazon is great and so is the TV easy set up and a great picture.
Best TV I have ever owned!     On: 2008-04-08

I though our plasma TV was great, but this LED TV is fabulous. I wont buy any other type of TV again. It also saves a fortune in electricity.
Great Tv     On: 2008-04-08

This Tv is hands down the best Tv for your money. Picture is perfect this is my second one the first got stolen. Sound is great, it has every thing you could possibly need. Amazon was great, they gave me a great price and delivered it quickly and carefully for no extra charge.
Couldn't be happier     On: 2008-04-07

I did a tremendous amount of research before pulling the trigger on this purchase to replace my old 30" CRT (tube) HDTV, and I couldnt be any happier with the results unless it also made me breakfast and was 80" instead. No geometry problems, no bowing, no color push, no hot spot, no halo, no weirdness of problems whatsoever. Fantastic picture. Excellent clarity and color accuracy when set up properly (start with Movie mode with Warm 2 and go from there with something like Digital Video Essentials). The great people of the famous AVS Forum were incredibly helpful in this selection and have great starter settings from which to tweak the picture.
Great Price, Better TV     On: 2008-04-07

This TV is awesome. I did alot of research before buying this TV. First let me say that the only other TV that even an option is the Sony. But for the price and the fact that this TV has an LED engine not a bulb pushes it ahead. This television has every option you can need and looks great. At this point I only have basic cable, not even digital cable, however it has a built in HD digital tuner, so I am watching 1080i broadcast in HD, and I have a very good, but not HD dvd play which looks amazing as well. Once the satilite with HD programing comes and with the use of the HDMI/DVI cable I am expecting even better picture. Now looking for the correct DVD player to get 1080p picture. Amazon was great from start to finish, the white glove delivery was including in the price as well. This same model, and make sure when you go shopping for price that you are looking at the same model, there are a few with close model numbers but are not LED, was $2599.00 at the local store plus tax, plus delivery, which you would want, even if you have a truck, if you damage it while bringing it home its on your tab. I paid almost a grand less, total including setting on my stand and the driver stays until you make sure it works. This is the TV to buy. I could not be happier.
Great Picture !! Too bad it only lasted four days....     On: 2008-04-07

Great Picture, but after four days the LCD circuit board blew. Part is on back order and will take seven days to get. OUCH! I will say Samsung Service Dept. was very friendly and within three days had a Repair Rep.out to diagnose the problem. Will give more feed back when T.V. is fixed on Thur.
Awsome TV     On: 2008-04-05

I guess I am one of the lucky ones, I checked out alot of TVs before I made my decision, I chose this one for the LED technology. Despite some bad reviews for the halo effect experienced by other people, I havent had a bit of problem with this set. My family loves it and the picture is perfect. Dont be discouraged by reading some of the reviews, dont just read the bad ones read the good ones also. I made my decision based on the reviews, Buy this TV, you wont be disappointed.
For a year now I've had this TV. HD Movies, Video Games, HD Sports... all look AMAZING.     On: 2008-04-04

I got this TV back in July of 07. Before it I had a 65 inch Toshiba Rear Projection HDTV. I loved my older TV. But after seeing Fight Night on the Xbox 360 on someone elses new plasma, I knew that my TV was just not good enough anymore. In my opinion that is.

So I started to look for a new TV and I really liked the DLPs. Very nice picture for not that much money...unlike Plasma or LCD. I was down to either buying a Samsung or a Mitsubishi. In the end I went with the Samsung because Ive always liked them over Mitsubishi. When it arrived at the house (I ordered through Amazon), the delivery guys brought it in and asked if I wanted it opened and put anywhere. I declined since I hadnt bought my stand yet (which I promptly left and bought). It arrived with no faults, no scratches, and no dings. Great delivery.

Now I have two roommates. And one of them kept bugging me about me getting the new TV. "Why are you buying a new tv?", "Youre TV looks just fine", "Is it really gonna be that much different?", "You could use the money for something else you know"...blah blah blah. I thought I had a new long term relationship I didnt know about. When the TV was hooked up, and the lights dimmed down, is when the magic began. Turning the TV on about blew my eyes out of my sockets. It just happened to be on MHD (Cox Cables HD music channel) with a white background (their commercials look amazing). Everyone in the living room couldnt see anything (in a good way...I think... heh). Then I switched it over to ESPNHD. What I got to see was the repeat of Barry Bonds record breaking homerun trot around the bases over and over in 1080i. My mouth dropped. And then my one roommate said "Wow...no friggin wonder you bought a new TV". I stayed up with my TV for about 48 hours. Playing games... watching HD movies... watching just regular HD TV. It was great.

As for gaming.

I have a 360 elite, PS3, and a Wii all hooked up via HDMI except for the Wii which can only be hooked up to component and can only broadcast in 720p. Let me tell you something...there just aint any turning back from this TV once youve seen it. Sure you can forward...but no turning back. Games Ive played for the PS3 would be Ratchet and Clank, and Drakes Fortune, and Motorstorm. All look incredible. We had the PS3 hooked up to the Toshiba at first because we ran out of HDMI spots on the TV, then we swapped it over to the Samsung and BOOM...a MUCH MUCH better picture. So crisp... so clear. So vibrant. The 360 games are also amazing. I stick to the 360 more because of usually better PQ and frame rates (99% of the time at least). Assassins Creed, D.I.R.T., NCAA, Fight Night, Call of Duty 4, Rainbow 6 Vegas....*sigh*... all look amazing. Sometimes you just have to see it to believe it. The Wii, even though it can only go up to 720p, still looks nice. Such as Zelda and Mario Galaxy and even the dated Resident Evil 4. Nothing spectacular, but still nice.

As for movies.

My HD-DVDs and Blu-Rays look phenomenal...depending on if the transfer was done right. Most of the time its your transfer on your disc or either your player that is making the movie look like crap. But movies such as Bourne (whichever), Transformers, Matrix (whichever), and Batman look superb on HD-DVD. Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End and Sunshine (god the Sun has never looked more beautiful) look amazing in Blu-Ray. When Capt Jack Sparrow was sniffing for the peanut at the begging of the movie on the boat in the deserted desert, you could see every black pore on his nose.
Even regular movies look great up-converted in my HD-DVD player (Toshibas HD-XA2).

As for HD-TV:

Well since I started watching HD channels, I can succumb to bringing myself to watch any other channel. So I would have to miss certain TV at the time. Thankfully Cox Cable is getting more channels every month in HD and now I can almost watch everything I want to. I hate seeing a fuzzy picture thats also not widescreen. Its just so ugly to see. Most of the HD channels look amazing... such as Discovery, ESPN, MusicHD, and many others. Even though the channels are broadcasting in 1080i, its still a great picture. Most people cant even tell a difference between 1080i and p anyways.

As for Sports in HD:

There really are no words to explain this. If you havent seen sports in HD, then you are sadly missing out on one of the best inventions ever. I barely even go to the bar anymore because they dont have HD. Ill only go if my team isnt being broadcast on cable.

Only a couple things I found that I dont like in over a year.

1. This is probably the worst and I am almost sure its the TVs DLP technology that does it. Sometimes on certain movies or TV shows, it seems like the way the movie or show was filmed causes a blurring effect or either like a washed out effect on the TV. Two examples I can think of is one movie named Dog Soldiers and one TV show called Journeyman (the main actor is both actually). Ive SOMETIMES seen it on Heroes, but not nearly as bad as Journeyman. I dont think its the rainbow effect that Ive heard about DLPs (especially since the LED engine was supposed to prevent that in most people). One of my friends doesnt notice it until I point it out. Then it becomes annoying almost. Like I said though... this barely happens. Ive never seen it on a videogame. Never on an HD or Blu movie. Rarely on a DVD. And sometimes on TV... and its usually the same shows which makes me believe its how it was filmed (the film... frame rate... lighting... coloring... something is doing it and I dont know what) I watch a lot of movies just so you know.

2. A shimmer effect occurs when lines become to close together. Imagine an umpire who has much thinner black and white line and many more of them on his uniform. There would be a slight shimmer effect that occurs because when up close to the TV, you can tell the lines are slightly curvy, like the letter `S, so it shimmers like the light bouncing off a snakes skin. It doesnt bother me that bad, but I notice it.

3. More HDMI ports wouldve been nice. Thats for sure

4. Im not a fan of that bright white light that comes on when the TV is on. Sure it looks `fancy and `hi-tech I guess...but it annoys me. Plus when the TV is all black on the screen, you can sometimes notice the white light on the screen. Irritates me more than anything.

Other than that, I dont have many gripes for over the year Ive had it. I got the TV for about 2100 bucks from Amazon, and I love it. If you upgrading your TV, then you will not be upset about purchasing this sweet thing. Definitely go for it.

TV is awesome.....BUT,     On: 2008-03-30

if you have FiOS and want to see your signal through HDMI you are screwed!! I contacted Verizon and Samsung and they both confirmed that there is an "incompatabilty" with the fiber optics and Samsung televisions. Neither of them would give any clue as to how one or the other was going to remedy it (via hardware/firmware upgrades, replacement parts/boxes, etc.). Basically I can obtain the best signal only through component, which is fine, but its not HDMI. Other than that, the TV performs great. My XBOX 360 and Wii games look awesome! Hopefully others can benefit from this small bit of warning if they already have FiOS before they hunker down almost $2k and realize that it wont work via HDMI, OR if you already have the TV, you may want to subscribe to a different provider so you can utilize HDMI.
Amazing     On: 2008-03-28

Simply a stunning TV. Caught it at $1700 about a week ago. After some fine tuning with the picture, I couldnt be more impressed. The delivery guy stared at it in awe after turning it on. Its beautiful and plays Xbox 360 games flawlessly. The DNLe technology tones down the grittiness of standard broadcasts, making them less of an eyesore, and the contrast and color range are amazing. My only gripe is that the viewing angle is slightly limited, but this is only if youre sitting close to the set. Sitting farther than eight feet should present no problems. Without a doubt, this is the best TV you can buy at this price.

(Another thing to note is that these sets dont look very good in regular stores. The pictures havet been tuned so they have a gray, washed-out look to them. They look so much better after tuning.)
GREAT !!     On: 2008-03-28

What a great deal , Ive been looking at this model for a year now. I was a little worried about spending so much over the internet. But WOW. I saved over $800.00 from what best buy was asking ( the same day). My new TV was delivered in less than 1 week.
The colors are great , Blacks are Blacker than Ive ever seen.
The ONLY con so far is that the sound is not all that good , but I matched it up with a new Sammy home theater.
Samsung HLT6187SAX 61 inch DLP has good pic     On: 2008-03-28

The picture is incredible in 1080 and 720, also very good when watching analog resolutions.

The case and frame itself makes this a nice looking TV, and the screen itself is very non-reflective which means theres no problem if you watch it in a room with bright lights or one with windows behind you.

There are a number of inputs and outputs including HDMI, optical audio, component, A/V, composite, antenna, PC, serial, and USB. The inputs and outputs are offset to the right and at an angle, facilitating easier hookups and access.

The universal remote that comes with it is nice, long and thin. Unfortunately I have not been able to get this to work with our Dish Network box using the codes they show in the book (anyone get this to work with Dish Network?).

The HD tuner works well, showing info (if available), which HD mode it is in, etc.

Switching between sources is easy. I only wish that the menu scroll speed could be quickened. If you have many sources that you switch between the scrolling can be annoying.

There are too many options to go into here. You can change pretty much anything, from when the blue power light is on (on when the tv is on, on when its off, never on) to screen position, noise reduction, V-chip settings, etc.

I have yet to try the PC connection with my PC, and the game modes they have available. Same with the USB port.

There are a few downsides.

The audio is not the best on this, but most of us probably use a receiver or amp system. If not its not bad, just not great.

When watching things with lots of action and at 720 or 1080 occasionally there is some pixelation as the display tries to keep up with the action. Its not often enough to be really bothersome and my wife cant see it at all when it happens. This seems to be a common thing that people mention with these DLPs running with the LED instead of the lamp.

The other thing that bothers me the most is when watching non-widescreen analog video. There doesnt seem to be a proper screen size mode to proportionally stretch the screen for the whole 16:9 width. Sure, you can watch it in 4:3 with the bands on the side but our last tv was able to proportionally stretch the edges but keep the middle in the proper ratio so it was possible to watch 4:3 video stretched across the whole screen without noticed peoples faces stretched. Zoom1 seems to be the only alternative outside of using native 4:3.

Overall its a very good tv, especially for the price. It renders video very nicely, has many features, many customizable options, and looks good. If you plan on watching a lot of HD then this is the TV for you. If you do a lot of mixing of HD, SD, and 4:3 and analog and dont mind watching it stretched or in native 4:3 with the sidebars then this tv is also for you.
61in Samsung Slim LED 1080p DLP HDTV     On: 2008-03-27

Truly an unbelievable TV. Lightweight, easy to set up, awesome picture. Excellent picture for digital signals, even when using cheap rabbit ears! I like the remote and the interface is pretty intuitive. Easy to switch between input sources. Was impressed by the delivery service and fast turn around for the purchase to installation.

Like most big screens, the input/output panel is located on the side, so you have to either rotate the TV or get behind it to connect wiring.
Let's be honest     On: 2008-03-26

In the world of flat screen HDTV there are 3 choices, plasma, LCD and projection. The problem with projection is you cant hang it on the wall. Bottom line is that a larger percentage of the LCD and plasma end up sitting on something, not hung on a wall. Samsung has got projection depth down to under 15" and delivers a picture that is every bit as good if not better than LCD or plasma. I have a wall unit that is 60" wide and 17" deep. This TV fits with about 2 1/2" on each side and is recessed from the front by over 2", looks almost built in and several people have made that comment.

I wanted "big" and didnt want to spend a huge amount of money. The sound is adaquate but with the money I saved over the other types (at least $3,500) I can afford a really nifty system. Thank you Amazon, great price, awsome product, professional delivery at a price the the retailers cant touch.
For size, price, and quality - this is your set!     On: 2008-03-26

This set is fantastic for its huge size, light weight, great picture quality, and totally affordable price. If you are in the market for a large HDTV, look no further.

The Good:
Many inputs for all output display types from HDMI to Component to VGA.
The picture on HD channels looks really good out of the box, and with calibration it looks even better.
No motion blur during fast action.
3d capable with tridef accessory for stereo 3d gaming and watching 3d movies.
Light weight and slim with a small bezel for a sleek look.
Many ways to adjust the sets picture to calibrate it manually.
Overall good viewing angles for a DLP.
My Xbox 360 games never looked so good!!!

The not-so-good:
Shabby casing material. This is not a super solid set.
Minor geometry issues reported like bowing (my sets geometry is perfect).
SSE effect(rainbow dots) in large highlighted areas. Can be minimized with calibration, some may not even notice it.
Poor sound from speakers. Easy fix, hook this up to a sound system!

This TV isnt perfect, but if you want the truth then here it is: no HDTV is perfect! Every brand and each technology (DLP, Plasma, LCD) has its own set of flaws. *With all things considered this WAS the best product on the market for size and price.

*I said WAS for a reason:
The only thing to consider now is that the new generation of this set is now available. Samsung now has new 61", 67", and 72" models available. To me all this means is that the price of this 6187s is going to go down more and more making it an even better choice!

Ive had this TV for over a month, and I dont regret my decision at all. This is truly a great HDTV.
I Love this TV!     On: 2008-03-26

I purchased this TV to replace a 9 year old 55" Toshiba Theaterview TV. I love it! I am using it with a TiVo HD and service from Comcast. I am very impressed even with SD programming. On other HD TVs The pictures looks really bad and pixelated. On the HLT6187, it is viewable (Which is nice, as I still have about 30 hours of shows on my TiVo to get through).

I purchased directly from Amazon.com. The delivery was awsome! I ordered on a Monday night. On Thursday morning I got a call to setup Delivery. By Noon on Friday, I was watching TV.

My Next Purchase is a PS3 and a New Receiver :)

I Highly Recommend this TV.
Great TV, no complaints.     On: 2008-03-24

Spent a long time searching for the right HDTV (our first), and everyone is very happy with this TV. We like the great picture, fast turn-on time, having the connections on the right-back instead of middle-back (makes it much easier to plug/unplug cables, and even though this mostly happens during initial setup, I still like being able to move the TV a little to the side and then "lean around" to change the plugs, since otherwise Id have to take the whole TV off the shelf with no access to the rear).

I could go on and on about this tv. But in one word amazing. If you want the best buy this TV
Dont buy Samsung TVs     On: 2008-03-22

We purchased the Samsung DLP TV about 9 months back. The TV failed in first week of Feb 2008. Samsung "certified" field service technician worked on the TV for 6 weeks, bringing 1 part every week to change & test. He had no idea what was wrong. Then he said the TV had to be replaced since it was under warranty. Then Samsung didnt approve a TV replacement for many days after this. Once they finally approved the replacement, they did not commit to delivering the replacement TV in anytime soon. Many calls to customer service over several weeks got the same response - "we dont know when we can deliver the TV & we cant do anything about it". I am still waiting for the replacement TV and it has been nearly 2 months since the DLP TV failed.
What a Bah-gan!     On: 2008-03-18

$1800, free shipping, no tax. AWESOME Deal! Its huge. Non-HD materials dont look as bad as they do on LCD/Plasmas. The number of inputs for this tv are great as well, I have a wii, xbox, satellite, and a pc all hooked up and theres room for more. No issues with the halo effect and field of vision is wider than I expected. Delivery went smoothly and I have no complaints for the first month.
Best I have seen, but...     On: 2008-03-17

I love this TV. OK, now that thats out of the way, there are a couple of problems. First, if you are not watching a true HD source, then the TV is just too big. It is far to grainy to be an enjoyable experience. The Food Network looks really good as I pull up in the driveway through the window, but once inside I got to change channels. It is almost to the point that if the channel isnt at least digital, I wont watch it. Second, when I programmed the cables remote, I have to press the volume keys multible times to change the volume. The Samsung remote works fine. So why do I love it, sit in front of it and watch the game on ESPN-HD and you will never wanna go back!
Great TV     On: 2008-03-13

This is a wonderful TV with excellent HD quality viewing. I have had no problems with it!
Very impressed     On: 2008-03-09

I had my eye on Samsung DLP TVs for over two years, but couldnt really justify spending nearly $3000 for an item that wasnt a necessity. But one day after just price shopping these TVs, I saw this one on sale for over $800 off the regular price so I finally bit the bullet and bought it and I have not been disappointed yet. I bought this TV to replace my nice but aging 53" Sony full screen I bought 5 years ago, and honestly after getting everything set up to the new TV, I dont know how a got along this long without it.

First, right off the bat when turning this TV on for the first time and tunning to an HD channel the picture was CRYSTAL clear, in addition it showed full screen as opposed to the black bars I used to see on the top and bottom of my screen with the old TV. I had learned to get used to the black bars, but after turning this TV on for the first time, it was an entirely new experience. While my old TV did not look bad, it just wasnt able to produce the vibrant and clear picture that the Sammy can. It looks as good as it did in the store. If you are right up on the screen, however you will see distortions and blurry edges, but come on, who sits 1 foot from a television anyway? Viewing from the side on this TV is not a problem either. In fact I think it looks just as good as viewing straight on. With my old Sony viewing from the side made the screen kind of hard to see.
My XBOX 360 games now come in full screen. (I really dont know how I played with the black bars previously). Another issue I had with my old TV playing the XBOX 360 games is that the text was VERY difficult to read, if not impossible. However this is not true with the Sammy. Text is as clear and easy to read as it is on a piece of paper. My widescreen DVD movies also look great on this TV as well, but I still do have the black bars on the top and bottom of the screen. This is normal however since my movies are in 16:9 aspect ratio. Also, the black bars are not as nearly as big as they were on my full screen so its easy to ignore.

The weakest thing about the TV is the sound. While its not in any means bad, its just not going to blow you away. But really most people, including myself who purchase these type of TVs will more than likely already have an outside sound source (A/V receiver). So to me the sound isnt that much of an issue. If I am watching regular TV, then the TV sound usually suits me fine, however if I am playing games or watching movies, I just listen to them through my receiver instead.

Features

This TV seems to have a multitude of features and I really havent had the time to really play around with it much. Some notable are a PC connection that allows you to use your TV as a 61" computer monitor. A WiseLink connector, which is just a USB slot that allows you to play music and view pictures from USB thumb drives. There is also a feature that will allow you to watch 3D content on your TV, but I really havent looked into that in more detail. Other than these there is the standard stuff, (V-chip, close caption, picture settings, etc). One thing I havent been able to do is watch two channels at the same time via split screen, which is one thing my old Sony could do. Its a slight disappointment, but definitely not a deal breaker. One feature I love is the that all of the connection are on the SIDE of the TV instead in the back, this makes very simple to add and remove components without having to go behind the TV every time.

Appearance

Overall the TV looks excellent. Its sleek and not overall conspicuous. Even though I think it very hard not to notice a 5 foot TV in the room, it just seem to fit in my room perfectly and nothing about it clashes with the surroundings. It also blends in nicely with my existing entertainment system and the new TV stand I bought. The TV itself is surprisingly light, not even 80 pounds. I had no problem getting the box off the moving truck and getting it into the house by myself. I did however need a little help in actually getting it on the stand, because the weight is un-proportional once its out of the box. However my wife was able to help me to lift it up and put it on the stand while still in the Styrofoam. And she would be able to lift it while I cut the Styrofoam away. My wife is not very strong, so if she was able to lift her end by herself then you should have no problems actually getting out of the box and onto a stand.

In summary I am not regretting this purchase. It is a nice addition to my setup and I am glad I choose the Sammy. The day before I purchased this Sammy I actually had changed my mind and was all set to get the 60" Sony Bravia instead. The only reason I didnt was because it was out of stock. This is a good thing because even though this TV is little more than the Sony. I think feature wise, the Sammy just offers much more than the overpriced Sony. This TV is highly recommended and in my opinion the best in this price range.
Two of the best TV's     On: 2008-03-06

I purchased the HLT 6187 and the 5087 for my parents. This DLP is amazing and so is Amazon. If your on the fence to upgrade to HDTV, Samsung DLP and Amazon are the way to go if you dont need to "hang on the wall".Great pricing and quick delivery. No problems whatsoever! The delivery guys were extremly helpful to my parents , who are seniors and they moved some other tvs for them. All I can say is thank you Amazon.
PLASMA VS LCD VS -DLP LCD-     On: 2008-03-03

I was very upset when my 4:3 62" Pioneer Big Screen just went out.. I really dislike the 16:9 ratio and since about 80% of tv still broadcasts in 4:3 I did not want to get a new tv. I researched and researched and finally decided on this tv, no bulbs to change and a picture that is perfect. Plus it has a setting that zooms the 4:3 signal so it fits the entire area of the 16:9 screen without the typical munchkin look.. I saw this tv at bestbuy on sale for $2799 plus tax, then I did a search online and found it here for $1929 total cant beat that. I have a 42" Bravia lcd in my bedroom and it is just too bright.. its a sony and I know everybody says they are the best thats why I bought it..but it makes everybody look like they are from OZ when Dorothy opens the door for the first time. The colors are too intense, I work on a computer screen all day and I dont want to watch one all night. Plasma was also out of the question since I love my xbox360. I know they are supposed to be immune to burn in now but at $6000 are you going to take that chance? This is the best tv right now... buy it... I have never posted any review before but I love this tv so much that I decided to tell you....
Hopefully it was the only Lemon     On: 2008-03-02

Received our Samsung HLT6187SAX 61" Slim LED Engine 1080p DLP HDTV on 1/29. Didnt turn it on for a week until DISH set it up. The TV lasted only 3 weeks and started with color changes from red to green. Thought it was the DISH receiver and requested a replacement. Before I could get the replacement the TV started blacking out for 3-4 seconds and being on for about 2 minutes. Amazon has replaced the product so we will see what happens. Maybe it was just a lemon..... hopefully. On this experience Im going to have to rate it low. Ill keep the replacement and see what happens and will re-rate later.

Another wonderful product from Samsung.     On: 2008-03-01

Ive been shopping off and on for a new TV to replace my Hitachi set I had purchased in 2004. The Hitachi set was a spur of the moment purchase which I now regret due to numerous, I mean numerous service issues so this time around I was going to do some research.

I have had my eye on a 73" Mitsubishi set for awhile after seeing one at a local Audio / Video store when they first came out and was dead set on getting one. I had almost bought one on several occasions but kept talking myself out of it figuring the price would go down another hundred bucks a month later.

I heard a radio ad today advertising a 20% leap-day sale at H.H.Gregg and decided to swing by after work to see what they were asking for the Mitsubishi sets. I found the set I was looking for but was stopped by a particular Samsung set sitting right next to it. At first I figured it was a plasma or LCD set due to the difference in brightness and at closer inspection found it to be a LED DLP set. Let me tell you if you havent seen an LED set next to an old-style projection set its like looking out of your window on a rainy day and looking out of your window on a bright sunny spring day. The colors on the Mitsubishi were dull and gray compared to the bright vivid colors on the Samsung set. My mind was set for months on getting that Mitsubishi set and all that was changed by a simple glimpse of the Samsung set.

If you are in the market for a new projection screen, the Samsung set is the way to go. The Mitsubishi may have a bigger screen but as they say quality not quantity.
No issues with my HL-T6187SAX     On: 2008-03-01

Ive been reading all the reviews on here, and the comments over on the AVS Forums. It seems that a small percentage of people were having issues with this set, especially early builds. I just recieved mine as a replacement for an earlier "S" series DLP that had gone bad. My set arrived with a build date of 01/2008, and the latest 09/2007 firmware. It does not have any of the common issues such as "Green Push", "Halo effect", or "Poor Geometry". Id say the picture is failry similar to my old lamp DLP, which is very good. All in all, the set is a very nice upgrade of my old set.
Samsung LED DLP vs Mitsubishi 65734 DLP     On: 2008-02-28

Originally, I had brought the Mits. 65" 734 from frys and after a week I still didnt have my TV and they werent even sure if I was going to get one the next week. All they had was open box 734. Who knows how long that bulb was used... It only has 2,000 to 3,000 hours of bulb life. Thats $300 every other year to have the TV to work.

So, I asked the salesman which other brand rear projection would they recommend and they pointed out the Samsung. Went home, did a little research and read a little review and poof I got the TV that night.

The TV is better at home than at the store.
The lighting in your living is darker, so the TV is very bright.
It is also smart too. IF I am watching cable and I turn on my DVD player, the TV automatically switches to DVD mode.
The angles from the TV for viewing is more than enough in my house.

The TV Remote is universal once you program your components 3 digital code.
It is not too Warm or Hot. This TV does not heat up like other HDTV.

61" is pretty big... IT seems smaller at the local store next to other big screen TV.
Stunning picture     On: 2008-02-25

I purchased this item about 6 months ago and still get a little thrill every time I turn it on. Right out of the box, the picture just blew my eyeballs out,no special adjustments needed. Delivery was as advertised, setup was a breeze. I paid about $2100; Im sure it is cheaper now, and I still consider it the best value electronic device I have ever bought. I did a lot of research prior to buying, and couldnt bring myself to pull the trigger until Samsung replaced the old bulb (which needed replacement every ? years) with the current solid state technology. The only problem I have seen is that when I tried to connect my admittedly old and cheap DVD player with component cables, the picture was severely distorted and unwatchable. I have read on some discussion boards that this is a recurring problem with a number of Samsung products. Eventually I will replace my DVD player with one that has HDMI output. For now it looks great even with the old composite video. Be aware that this model has no intrinsic PIP; for me, I didnt need it because my Time Warner digital DVR box does it itself. This is a fabulous product that I have used now for 6 months. The only problem is that I have season tickets to the Charlotte Panthers, and I cant get anyone in my family to go with me to the games because watching football on this thing is so incredible. I recommend it with no reservation.
the good, the bad and ????     On: 2008-02-25

The set looks good and the picture is excellent BUT!!!!! THE SET QUITS RESPONDING TO THE REMOTE AFTER ONE HOUR (SOMETIMES LESS) OF OPERATION.
Customer service is difficult and their certified service shops are worse. Requested service on Feb 15 and am still waiting (scheduled for 28th). Questionable quality. Hope this isnt what the future holds.
satisfactory is an understatement     On: 2008-02-23

I recently purchased the Samsung HLT6187SAX 61" Slim LED Engine 1080p DLP HDTV from Amazon and am pleased to inform anyone who might be interested that this is a fine TV. My wife and I have been planning this purchase for almost a year and now that we have received the product, there are no regrets whatsoever. Our experience with Amazon in this and other purchases has always been positive, but I was a little nervous about buying something so large and (as are all electronics) delicate from a distant location. Once again, Amazon has delivered as promised. The shipper gave us no problems and was courteus and helpful. None of the problems mentioned in other reviews came up.

As to the TV, I can only say WOW!!! Samsung is represented in our house in various modes, including monitors for our computers, and this TV has proven once again that reviews can usually be trusted. The picture is extremely clear, sharp and consistent. The colors are strong and easily balanced (by the onboard controls) to your taste. And the blacks are as deep as the reviews claim! I am presently using an antenna in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex and receive more digital than analog signals. The digital signal strength varies the same as an analog signal, but it can be very aggravating when the signal drops below threshold and you either lose the sound and/or picture (with analog, it usually only gets snowy). This may eventually lead to purchasing TV service, something I have resisted. With a TV of this quality, though, the bitter pill wont be as difficult to swallow. :)

I found the Manual to be fairly good and helped me overcome my initial shyness to explore the remotes capabilities. Once on my way though, I found the set and remote to be very intuitive. It seems I find something new to play with at each session. I especially like the way digital stations perform services that werent available with analog: signal strength, picture resolution, present program information and even station-by-station program guides.

I found the setup of cables and hook-up to other devices to be no more difficult than with any other TV and even in many cases much easier. Everything is straightforward. And for those who expect a TV of this dimension to have a big speaker system, forget it. That is not what this set is about. If you want a sound as big as the TV, you will want to add a decent sound system as well. If you wish to view movies in an appropriate way, you will also want to hear them in that same way. GET A GOOD SOUND SYSTEM!!!

As a by-the-by, I found the USB hookup to be very useful, moreso than any others Ive encountered before. The onboard program was very easy to use.

As a last note, if you are considering a big screen TV for your home, always keep in mind the amount of space it will take up in the room allotted to it. Online research will help guide you in your needs and you should get what pleases you most. Too big will overwhelm, too small will disappoint. Get whats right for you, not whats right for the salesman at the store. And in the case of this TV, you will find the reviews raving over it are right!!!
Great looking TV     On: 2008-02-19

Easy installation, sharp image, minimum reflection, looks great, well built, in summary, Get One if you need to replace your TV. Worth every penny. Even better playing blue-ray ...
good for a month     On: 2008-02-14

I normally dont enter reviews on products but I guess I need to express this one. After extensive research I decided on this Samsung model based on many reviews here on Amazon and various other websites. I ordered my TV December 13th and received it December 19th. All was well until February 9th. I turned it on to find the picture a reddish color. Turns out I need a new LED driver to which the service tech did not have when making my service call. They need to order the part which will take a couple days to get. So after waiting all day for service I find out I gotta do it all over again next week when the part comes in. Needless to say I am not happy with this TV or the service I got to repair it.
Samsung delivers!     On: 2008-02-13

I did my fair share of research before purchasing this television and I must say, there were not many negatives with this model at all. The main complaint I heard was that there was not an HDMI-out for audio. But, personally I believe this is not a big deal at all because digital audio runs on a single cable anyway (optical, coaxial). Not to mention, my Denon AVR3807 does not have HDMI inputs anyway. Yes, you have to run opticals from your BRD/DVD and STB to your receiver, but if you have a decent receiver with plenty of inputs youre fine. And there is no way you can tell any difference in the sound quality...no way!
The other negative I read had to do with delivery, but thats no fault of Samsung. My experience with the delivery was wonderful. I had my set delivered in 5 days via Eagle by two gentlemen that carried it in, set it up, confirmed everything was working fine and took the box/packaging with them. Great service, but from past reviews YMMV.
Now, for the positives. The picture is astounding when watching HD (1080i)and even better watching Blue Ray discs (1080p)...absolutely amazing! Ive been told to watch HD in 720p for a better picture but I really dont see a difference. Analog television is a bit lacking, but again, its no fault of Samsung. Its the signal quality. The picture is very bright, the blacks are BLACK, colors are vibrant, etc. And, with all of the fine tuning options, youre sure to find a picture that suits your likes. You can even decide if you want the LED display light on/off/on when set is on/on all the time, etc...crazy! The kicker is the LED tube that never needs replacing! Sold! Samsung really thought everything out when they created this model. I am VERY happy with this product. If you have the room for a 61" screen and 15" of depth jump on this item!
The price even went down a week after I bought it, so I called Amazon and they credited my acount for the difference...very nice and easy!
All in all, a great experience!
Excellent choice     On: 2008-02-11

I spent three months researching this tv before I finally purchased. All that looking and I was still blown away by the picture when I got it. There is no better tv for the money, I assure you. I took the free shipping and it only took 3 business days to get here (Im really glad I didnt pay extra for "standard" shipping, which wouldve taken that long anyway).
Awesome TV - Get One!     On: 2008-02-11

Finally, prices have come low enough for common people to have an awesome TV. Unfortunately, the "White Glove" delivery by Eagle USA was anything but top notch - they failed to show on the first scheduled date, claiming that I had said that I would pick the TV up myself (why would I ever say that, Dexter?). Then on the rescheduled delivery, the guy had no idea what an HDMI cable even was, and I had to set up the connections myself.

Other than this, the device itself is great. It required almost no picture adjustment, and even in my fairly bright living room, the brightness setting is just fine at barely above half way. I dont see any of the reflection issus on the flat screen, as long as I use basic common sense on where to sit. I am perfectly happy with this "87" model versus the "89" that costs hundreds more - my satelite receiver provides the picture-in-picture anyway.

I chose not to buy the stand as offered on Amazon, but rather got one on sale at Best Buy for $150. It is only as wide as the TV base, but plenty deep to hold my big Denon receiver and other components. And the narrow size helps in backing the TV tightly into the corner where it takes up minimal space (for a 61" screen, that is).

Hopefully the LED light engine will be as long-lasting as advertised, and we will have great viewing for years to come. I say, get one!
Best TV I've Ever Owned     On: 2008-02-09

I did a lot of Research before buying a HDTV. Im glad I did! This TV is the most bang for the buck. I love this TV and would recommend it to anyone. Actual HD Channels are amazing. Sports are amazing. The big thing for me was buying an LED Version. It will not wear out like the Lamp models. It has so many connections its ridiculous. Definately go with HDMI Cables though to get the best picture. It has 3 HDMI connections! I was kind of worried about the rainbow effect problem posted on the website, but the TV I recieved is fine. You cant beat this price on this huge of a TV. Delivery was good. If youre looking for a huge TV, this is a great buy!
Venting     On: 2008-02-08

I was happy with my Samsung DLP until about 2 weeks ago. The TV started making these squeaky sounds one afternoon out of the blue. It lasted about 30 minutes then went away. Two nights ago it came back. Then last night I tried to turn it on and it was dead. Ive only had it for 3 months! Now I have to wait a week for the guy to come look at it. This is my only tv so now I guess Im not going to be watching tv for awhile. The price is right and Amazon did a good job getting it to me quickly but I would suggest buying something else. A friend of mine has a Tashiba and he loves his.
Every room should have one...     On: 2008-02-08

I loved it from the moment it was removed from the box. This is my second 61" Samsung and I love it even more that the older version. The black piano finish is definitely sexy.
Who Says Rear Projection Is Dead?     On: 2008-02-08

Sony has announced they are abandoning their rear projection business. Of course, theyre famous for screwing-up, so I wouldnt put too much credence in that. I suspect that this segment of the market will shrink, mostly because thin flat-screens have become better and cheaper. But, if you have the space, this set gives you more bang for the buck than virtually anything out in consumer electronics fairyland.

If you want a SUPERB picture of generous proportion...you have to take a look at this set. The LED technology fixes the two most likely sources of frustration with DLP technology, i.e., bulb replacement and color wheel failure. It is axiomatic that any moving part will eventually die. This set should last 60,000-80,000 viewing hours without a problem. This is my second 61" Samsung DLP (the ex got the last one in the divorce). This one is head & shoulders above the last in both picture quality and price.

Amazon has the deal. I ordered online. They gave themselves about a ten-day window for delivery, but it was here in four days. Actually, it was three but I couldnt be home to take delivery until the fourth day. They came about 6:30 PM, within a few minutes of their phone call. The carried it in, unboxed it, set it on the table, plugged it in to make sure it fired-up okay, took away the box and material, had me sign their bill of lading, gave me a hug and went on their merry way. I figured I saved about $500 over the local big box store. They didnt really hug me. I put that in to see if you were paying attention.

All-in-all, this was a wonderful transaction and the Superbowl never looked better. King Kong on standard (upconverted) DVD looks almost high def. High def programming looks spectacular, even with a very close viewing distance. If you get this set, youll never need or want to go to a theater again. Just the savings on popcorn alone will pay for it in just a few years.

Amazing TV for the price     On: 2008-02-07

I bought this TV not knowing if I was going to really fall in love with DLP. In fact, I had been warned by several people not to buy a DLP. But I kept hearing darling things from people with this specific TV. Its bright, small and doesnt require maintenance (color wheels, tubes, etc.) like most other DLPs, due to its LED engine.

Its 1080p and its beautiful. I have a PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii hooked up to it, as well as 1080i cable from Comcast. Everything looks great, except the HD doesnt look that great on the cable.. but thats probably Comcasts fault. Their HD signals are incredibly compressed here in the US.

With the PS3 Ive watched 1080p Blu-Ray movies and they look amazing.

I highly recommend this TV.
Save your money and mind     On: 2008-02-02

I read the reviews and saw over 90% of the folks thought this TV was a 5 star and the ones that didnt hated it. I am one of the latter; this TV was a pain from the start. Received it plugged it in and the first thing I see is the message check fan #3 and in 5 mins the TV turned off. Samsung set up a repair but the Superbowl was coming so I thought I would notify Amazon. They were great and sent me a new TV and it arrived early and I still will get to see the Superbowl. The bad news is now I have to deal with the lousy picture on this set. Some HD programs look great but when you watch a movie either on TV/DVD/DSS unless it is a HD movie unlike the 400 DVDs that I own the picture isnt as good as the 20 yo TV that this one replaced. Dark scenes and scenes with any kind of smoke or fog looked like a really bad color by the numbers watercolor set. (I have seen some people refer to this as a halo effect but that description doesnt do it justice.)

The service rep Samsung sent over had no idea how to fix this, unlike the warning you see in the discription of this item. The service guy just left saying it was everybodys fault but the TVs. So I would look elsewhere for a better brand of TV, you can still buy it here but, I dont recommend this set. Now I am going to press my luck and see if I can exchange this set for a better one.
TV is fantastic...delivery...another story     On: 2008-01-31

Let me start by saying believe the hype here. For the money, I dont think there is a better set. In fact, I have seen pricier sets that dont look this good. I had a first generation DLP from Samsung and replaced it with this unit. No comparison.

Here is my problem with delivery. First of all, it only took 3 days to arrive. That is awesome! However, the delivery service is labeled as White Glove. I cannot find a specific definition of what White Glove means, but I assumed it meant the TV would be unboxed and set up. The delivery could not have been nicer. However, that is the problem...There was ONE delivery man. One person cannot lift this TV. It is light enough, but awkward for a single person to move safely.
So apparently white glove services means I need to help. I am OK with that, but make it clear please.

By the way, let me add that I saved $700 by going with Amazon. Local store had it for $2299 not including tax or shipping. If you want a big screen, Amazon is the way to go. A friend told me they were nervous about it being delivered by a truck...My response was...how do you think it gets to the local big box store?
Samsung 1080p Experience Good     On: 2008-01-29

Although I cannot thoroughly review this product after only owning it for two months, the purchasing experience I had through Vanns and Amazon was smooth and even after the 2007 holiday sales, I still believe I got a great deal. I havent had much of an opportunity to use this monitor, but so far, its quality seems to be good. (I dont really gloat over TV.) I experience some ghosting on analog TV and DVDs but I cannot blame that on the quality of the monitor. My kids X-box 360 in 1080p looks very crisp & clear. If anyone is worried about purchasing one and setting it up on their own, dont worry. Most stores will try to sell you a delivery & set up for $100 and up, but in reality, the unit is light, easy to set up and is plug & play, so there really is no set up; plug everything in and the unit recognizes the devices and you can start watching minutes after you turn it on. There is a question regarding the need to calibrate this monitor since there has been some talk about the need to do that. Personally, I purchased a CD through Joe Kane Productions where a calibration DVD can be purchased and at least gives the user an option to perform their own low-tech adjustments. To provide a good review, I would need a year or two. So, in all honesty, the transaction went well and so far I havent had any problems and the picture on the monitor is fine. My interest is more pertaining to longevity and maintenance after a year.
beautiful picture big savings     On: 2008-01-29

It took 12 days for this tv to arrive but it was well worth the wait. No bulb to replace, saved $500+ over buying it locally, great reception off the air 99% of the time. I think that 1% is a problem with the station and not the tv. When it happens the signal strength is jumping up and down to nothing. Just hooked up to antenna that looks like an oversize frizbee and an old amp that came with the house. Doesnt receive analog very well on some stations but most are digital and the others will have to change soon.

excellent so far................     On: 2008-01-28

I bought this excellent tv during the holidays. So far nothing but high remarks. the picture quality is not as good as an lcd but damn close and for the price($1919.00) good luck finding an lcd 61 inch for that. regular channels arent bad at all ive seen worse, the hd channels forget it, its top notch. i bought an upconvert dvd player and my dvds look great (cant wait until the blue ray and hd war is over....im about 90 percent sure bluray will win) playstation 3 is glorious the football players look as if they are going to jump off the screen and tackle me. so in this short review of the samsung 6187 61inch i recommend it ..if you like a great deal and great tv buy this one

After exhasutive research, we determine the Samsung offered the best value for a 60+ inch TV. The TV can be viewed from nearly any angle unlike many DLP sets. Eagle delivery was polite and prompt. Amazon quickly processed a price adjustment also.
Great TV...But the Hale Effect does exist     On: 2008-01-26

Im not going to go into all the positive aspects of this TV since thats already been covered by countless other reviewers. This review is to explain my experience with the Halo Effect

I purchased this TV in November with some knowledge of this problem, but I couldnt beat the price as compared to other retail outlets. I noticed that purple spots would appear on the screen when there were dark images displayed. I called Samsung first, not Amazon and the Samsung customer service was well aware of the problem. It took a few weeks for a replacement part to come but it was an easy fix.

It turns out that TVs that were manufactured before November had a silver ring installed which shouldve been black. Thats all the Halo Effect really is. The technician installed the black ring today and the problem is gone.

He did tell me that this model is now being manufactured with the black ring so new buyers shouldnt have this problem. But for those whose purchased their this model last year, be on the lookout of this defect before your warranty runs out.

WONDERFUL...EXCEPT     On: 2008-01-23

This HD TV has a great picture and performs flawlessly. I already have a 50 inch Samsung DLP and love it too.

I chose this TV because of my previous experience with Samsung, and due to the mostly glowing reviews.

Heres my beef....This TVs specs written by Samsung, say this is a 120hz television. It says so on their web site, and the same tv description is on Amazons spec sheet. At Best Buy, it is advertised as a 120 hz tv.

When looking at the display on the screen it says 60hz, as does the manual that comes with the TV. I called Samsung and asked them what is going on. They put me on hold for a very long time, and then stated that no Samsung DLPs are 120 hz. I asked them why is described as 120 hz.

Their reply was, if you want a 120 hz, you have to buy an LCD. I asked her if she heard me, and she said yes. I asked again to answer the question. Her reply was, you can return the TV if you wish.

Other than that, the tv is quite good in every aspect. I wanted a 120hz for gaming and watching sports to ensure I dont get any blurs or distortions. Oh well, if this doesnt bother you, buy it.
Main circuit board failure     On: 2008-01-22

I purchased my new Samsung in Ocober 2007. I was impressed with the timely delivery of this product. After I set it up I was impressed and very pleased with the TV. It is now January 2008. I do notice a slight purple halo evey now and then and I see that there is a fix for this problem but it does not bother me all that much. What really bothers me is that the main or ( mother ) circuit board failed in this TV. I was watching TV and it turned off all by itself. Then it would not turn back on with the remote. I had to turn it back on with the button on the front of the tv. Now it will not change channels or bring up the menu or respond to any inputs from the remote or the buttons on the side of the tv. I have to push the button on the front of the tv to get it to turn off. Now the thing turns on all by itself in the middle of the night or whenever. I have to unplug it from the wall to keep it from going on. I set up a repair for this tv with Samsung on Sunday and Monday the service tech contacted me and told me he had cosulted with Samsung and came to the conclusion that the circuit board failed and needed to be replaced. OUCH! He will get the part on Friday hopefully but I do not know when the repair will be made. What a hassle. It is still under warranty but I did not puchase the extended warranty from Amazon. That was a mistake. I can get the extended warranty from Samsung but it would cast $20.00 per month, $240.00 for one year. I will keep you posted after the repair has been made.
Great TV, Especially For The Money     On: 2008-01-20

Had this for a few days now and its been wonderful. In low light, the picture is perfect. In daylight, the edges can look a little dark, but its still damn fine. The brightness is almost too much, but the dynamic picture settings seem to adjust the set with excellent results.

Could be easier to adjust between aspect ratios, but thats a small matter. The fact that the you can manually adjust the positioning of the image in different aspect ratios is nice, too, so you can, for instance, include or exclude the tickers or captions along the bottom of the screen. The generous amount of inputs is fantastic and so is the fact that they thought ahead and put them all within easy reach on the right side, not hidden away in the back like most others. When you have an 80 pound TV, its nice not to have to move the thing to hook up a DVD player or cable box.

Looking forward to not having to replace bulbs thanks to the LED technology and not worrying about burn in. The picture is much more film-like than LCD or plasma - a great touch if youre a movie fan and like the look and feel of being in the cinema.

Speakers and sound are good, much better than most others. The surround sound mode really brings things to life. Of course, there is no substitute for adding a real surround sound system....

Last but not least, everything considered, for the money this is an unstoppable value. For less then $2000, you get a huge 61" screen with 1080p, good sound, lots of features, and intuitive design and usability. Helluva deal on a helluva TV!

Only docked it one star (would have docked it 1/2 star, but you cant do that here) because of its performance in high light condition, even though I almost never use it in those conditions. Buy it and enjoy!

Great buy!     On: 2008-01-14

I am an electronics enigneer and I have spent some time researching my first HDTV purchase. I have looked at scores of different HDTVs and studied specs. After receiving the Samsung HLT6187AX I would say that this is the best HD picture I have ever seen on any brand at any size. Setup and operation was extremely simple and straight forward, and the price was remarkably low compared to similar sets.

The Amazom free shipping was ahead of schedule and very professional.
Defective Junk     On: 2008-01-12

This TV worked great for almost 6 weeks, great picture, the HD was wonderful. Then, the trouble started. The TV kept shutting down. I called for repair immediately, the repairman had to make 3 visits, which took 3 weeks, and finally he was able to repair the TV, unfortunately for me the repair lasted 3 days. Called Samsung again, they refuse to replace the TV, they say I have to "give them a chance" to fix it. I said that I thought 3 repair visits and 3 weeks was chance enough. They dont agree. Amazon refuses to even contact Samsung on my behalf because it is 2 weeks over Amazons 30 day return policy. All I asked was that they help me out a little and ask Samsung to hurry the repair or replace this stupid piece of junk. After countless calls to Samsung, as of this writing the TV is still not repaired, they refuse to replace it, Im paying for HD service that I dont have a TV to receive it on, and it has been over a month since this TV has worked. I asked Samsung to just give me my money back, they refuse. So, where do I turn? Amazon wont help, Samsung wont replace the TV or take it back, Im sitting here with this stupid 61" monstrosity sitting in the living room broken for over a month now. I suppose I have to get an attorney or something, but that will probably cost as much as the TV, so Im stuck. So, youre forewarned, if you get a good TV as apparently many of the reviewers have, then youre lucky. But, if you get a bad one like I did, be prepared to make a lot of phone calls and spend a lot of time going nowhere with a company that doesnt care if their products work or not once you buy them. This is the worst purchase I have ever made. I dont know if I would have had any better luck dealing with a brick and mortar store rather than online, but I dont think I will ever spend this much money again on an electronic item online. Again, this is the worst purchase I have ever made.

What a difference from my old 60" rear projection TV. I just got HDTV from my satellite, and its great. I can actually see the hockey puck now.
Awesome TV at a great price     On: 2008-01-12

It was 13 years since I last purchased a TV, and since TVs are such a rare purchase I spent a lot of time researching the various technologies and visiting stores before making the plunge. In my case the decision was between various projection sets, because the size and layout of the family room where the TV means it doesnt make sense to spend a thousand dollars more to buy thinness. Several years ago when Samsung announced the first LED DLP TV, I told myself Id wait until they dropped under $2000, and thankfully last fall the HLT6187S did on Amazon. Having read reviews and heard from friends about color wheel halos and expensive bulb replacements, I wanted a troublefree HDTV with awesome picture quality and zero maintenance. The TV arrived in October 07, (the shipping and setup were flawless) and it has fulfilled every expectation. It is in a bright room with lots of natural light, but even on the brightest day the picture isnt washed out. HD display quality is mindblowing, and color accuracy is spot on, although SDTV is not great, just acceptable. DVD playback with an upconverting Sony player is so good I wonder how much of an improvement Blu ray can bring. Friends and family with HDTVs have all made very positive comments about the Samsungs picture quality. Two thumbs up!

UPDATE 01/22/08: TV still not fixed, has been out of service since December 12,2007, almost two months. Samsung finally says that the will replace the TV but Ill believe that when and if I ever get it as they have given me nothing but wrong information from the start. All I wanted was a good TV. What I got has been the most stressful and frustrating experience Ive ever had with customer service. Absolutely horrible experience. I will never buy another Samsung product, the customer support is torture.
Real nice picture     On: 2008-01-10

My 4 year old Sony crapped out, and repairs were going to be a silly amount of money. I liked the idea of DLP with an LED light source. Just go to best buy or circuit city and compare the heat comming off of the sets. You can cook dinner on top of a plasma set, and the LCDs while not as hot, are still pretty toasty. Heat production in an electric device, except in the case of resistive heaters, is a bad thing. Good efficient devices are not a major heat source. Great picture, good & fast delivery.
WOW ! Amazing HDTV and Great Price     On: 2008-01-08

What can I say? This is one amazing television. I debated for quite awhile as to whether to buy an LCD or Plasma big screen TV and never even thought about DLP sets until I saw this one at BestBuy. I did a lot of research online, visited a few showrooms, and even had a chance to watch a movie at a friends house on a smaller Samsung DLP set before making the decision to go with this technology over the LCD or Plasma.
There is a slight warm-up time (maybe 30 seconds) when turning on the set and that appears to be normal and once its on the picture is truly stunning. I just updated to HDTV through Direct-TV and it is very hard to watch "normal" TV anymore.
I am very happy with this set and would recommend it highly.

Two great decisions     On: 2008-01-07

I recently made two incredibly good decisions. First, after a lot of research, I decided to buy the Samsung HLT6187S TV. Its big, its beautiful and it has a fantastic picture. I couldnt be more pleased!
My second decision was to order it from Amazon rather than buy it locally from Best Buy or Circuit City. Again, I couldnt be more pleased. The TV arrived quickly, it was delivered in perfect condition, the deliverymen were super, AND I saved a LOT of money!! Im a happy customer.
Great TV set!!     On: 2008-01-07

I am completely satisfied with the purchase and delivery of this fine set! The shipping was free included in the purchase , but I was surprised that the delivery folks actually carried the carton into the house, unpacked it, and set it in place at no extra charger to me, and with no prompting from me.

The set has an added feature that I find valuable: I am using a Mac Mini with an Elgato EyeTV, which acts as my DVR; The EyeTV has a common "fault" that it s audio level is lower than the device it is feeding; In this case, the Mac Mini. The TV set has a MENU SELECTABLE auto-audio leveler, which absolves this small issue. (It is nice to be able to use the Mini as intended; A computer, when its video and audio is delivered to this TV set. -I use the VGA adapter to connect the video to the Samsung TV set. The Mac Mini is at the TV set, and is controlled by a mouse and a mini-keyboard, both via Bluetooth, and made by Apple. -SWEET PACKAGE!) The Mac Mini uses the standard WPA-protected Wi-Fi to connect to my LAN.

The Samsung TV is easy to set up and to run. I have discovered no flaws. I just returned from a big-box store that sells this unit as well as a LOT of other large HDTV sets; I still like the image that the Samsung LED units deliver. The Samsung LCD-LED sets are very good, but the rear-projection set that I got is a LOT SMOOTHER. Therefore, the rear-projection LED unit has the best picture, in my opinion.

Would I buy again? YES!
Would I recommend this set to a friend? YES!

Service?     On: 2008-01-02

I am having serious problems with my recent purchase. I had the TV delivered hooked it up to all my devices and nothing. A little sound was made but no contrast on the black screen. No menu, no volume, nothing. I called the seller twice and was put on hold for more then 20 min each time. I tried calling them today to confirm my exchange and all I get is a busy signal. I am really not happy and hope to get a now WORKING tv soon. I called Samsung and they say about 8% of these models that go out are completely defective. Buyer beware.

This is our second Samsung & we are happy with as the first model     On: 2007-12-31

I bought a 50" Samsung DLP with the color wheel, last year and have been satisfied withe it overall, but theres always that bit of rainbow effect under certain conditions, and the noise from the wheel and fan can be a bit annoying. This new one, the 61" LED light engine HLT-6187S improves on everything except brightness. Im not sure if thats due to a larger screen size, or the light source, but its adequate in all but a fully sunny room. The light engine does emit a buzzing sound, audible across the room when the screen displays any image but total black, but that buzz will be drowned out by normal audio levels, so dont worry about that.

Sharpness and color seem limited more by the source quality than any deficiency in the TV. Comcast cable employs compression which can detract from the appearance of moving images. Playback of Blu ray disks, if mastered well is nothing short of breath taking.

Color controls on this model seem endless, with some controls making imperceptible changes to the picture. Color controls have been expanded greatly from last years 50" Samsung I mentioned earlier (with 5-color color wheel).

Internal speakers are nothing to write home about--but are slightly more pleasing than the downright dreadful speakers of last years 50". Plan on an external amp and speakers to complement the fine picture.

Start up time is about 10 seconds and the color looks correct as soon as an image is displayed, whereas the 50" we have ramps up the brightness over about 30 seconds.

The one image defect that I see I cant be sure is due to the TV, but Ill mention it--there is a "shimmer" or varying brightness level of portions of the image, at a rate of about 2 times per second. This shimmer is barely noticeable on the same material on other TVs and in some cases is totally absent, and I have found no video settings that mitigate this annoying tendency. It seems to be exacerbated by any programs that also exhibit a back and forth "jitter" from left to right (perhaps a problem with film to video transfer issue). Some programs will appear rock solid for some time, and then a scene will appear that displays the "shimmer". It might be in a shadow area OR a highlight area, and is hard for me to ignore. I have only a few blu ray disks, and they are a mixed bag--parts of Planet Earth are fine and other scenes have tons of shimmering. DVDs seem to play back either uniformly cleanly from start to finish, or play back with a constant shimmer. Therefore I am loathe to blame this issue on the TV but keep in mind the same disks play back on other equipment and the 50" Samsung DLP with little discernible shimmer. oh, the blu ray player I use is a PS3.

My suggestion--take a look at this model in a local store with source material similar to what you will use--cable, blu ray, Hd-dvd, dvd, etc. Sit at the distance u will watch it from at home.

There is a noticeable amount of overscan in all picture modes, so dont expect to see the very edges of the image. Some text at the extreme edges may be slightly cut off. Theres a positioning control to center the picture, so if u find for example that text is cut off at the bottom, u can show more of the bottom portion, which means more of the top will cut off. There is a setting called "Just Scan"--do NOT confuse that with no overscan.

I have no regrets with this unit and got great service from Amazon--fast delivery.
Great 1080p at a great price.     On: 2007-12-31

My friend owns a 61" Samsung w/o the LED technology and was completely satisfied, so I decided to do more research on this model. Although this LED technology was new (at least to me), I knew that LED was extremely reliable and long-lasting unlike the traditional DLP lamps. The replacement of lamps on the traditional DLPs kept me away from buying one since one of my friends had to replace his in less than a year.

I was happy with the delivery of my set through Amazons contracted delivery service. The exterior is attractive and stylish with its LED accent light (which you can turn off or on when not in use if it bothers you). The picture quality, brightness levels, and contrast were exactly what I had hoped for when combined with my blu-ray player (havent had HD service hooked up yet). The detail and sharpness of both still and in-motion imagery was excellent. Replicates the movie theater experience (when combined with surround sound). Works well with video games too. Take a look at the side panel in the pictures and you can see it comes with 3 HDMI ports, 2 ins for S-Video/component, 1 out for component, and connections for PC and home theater as well; enough for my personal use. The menu screen/interface is also stylish and easy to use. It provides a number of functional settings and controls to fine tune video and audio.

Audio is good (not excellent), but I figured no two-speaker internal system in a slim design is going to put out tremendous sound anyway so it still gets 5 stars in my book. You get the best sound with a home theater system, and I think thats what all manufacturers believe the consumer will do anyway; the reason why full-sized, deep cabinet tvs are on the decline.

61 inch TV     On: 2007-12-31

I could not be more pleased with the TV. I had to customize the sound to suit my hearing deficiencies, which says nothing about the TV. Now I only wish I could buy a Blu-Ray DVD Player and some Blu-Ray DVDs to take advantage of the full capabilities of the set. The TV fits our family rm to a tee.
Samsung 61" DLP LED light engine     On: 2007-12-30

We are loving this tv. We had a 52" Rear Projection LCD that went out and we replaced it with the Samsung and are so glad we did. Superb picture quality. Colors so lifelike it looks like you can step into the picture. Just a couple minor tint and color level tweaks which are easily made with the way they have the menu set up and this thing ROCKS. All my family members are wanting to get one now. The long life LED light engine is the icing on the cake with this tv.
Feed it with a 1080p source from a BluRay player or HD player and its a mind blowing viewing experience. But also a great picture with a 420p source off the satellite dish. HD programming off the satellite is of course excellent.
An Upconverting 1080p DVD player will fill the bill for most people.
Excellently done Samsung.

I compared the 60" Sony SRXD ( KDS 60A 2020) and Samsung HL-T6187 high def televisions and purchased the Samsung. The product is superior with excellent colors, resolution and audio. The high def images are clear, crisp, with excellent & consistent quality.
The delivery and installation of the Samsung T.V. by Eagle( EGL) was timely and flawless. The entire experience at Amazon from initial order of the Samsung television to delivery and installation was perfect. Without reservation, I recommend the Samsung HL-T6187 high def T.V., Eagle delivery, and Amazon.com.

Hold off on buying this TV     On: 2007-12-28

I bought this TV on 11/30. It has a severe case of the halo effect described in the "Consumer Alert" above. Although I wanted to like the TV and keep it, I have to give it the lowest rating because of the halo problem and the terrible service to fix the problem. The TV is fine, but the halo completely ruins it for me -- it shows up as a blue/purple circular haze in the lower middle screen in a good number of high contrast scenes (extreme example: Harry Potter 5, chapter 2 - when Nymphadora makes her entry holding a point source light into Harrys dark room).

My experience with 3 Samsung service companies in the DC area has been horrible. The first two companies Samsung customer service scheduled for me never showed up and never returned calls. People from the 3rd one did show up but appeared completely clueless about the problem. By now I have this quite well researched -- I showed them various movie frames where the halo crops up, and I also showed them test images from avsforum (search for posts by MLXXXp on Samsung LED rear projector owners thread). But they wanted to take the TV away for tests and then decide what to do about it. When I showed them the consumer alert on this site they said they know nothing about that problem.

I also talked to a supervisor at Samsung customer service. She refused to assign another service company or have them perform the service at my home even when I suggested that I may have to return the TV. I pointed the alert to her as well, to which she said that Samsung can not be responsible for any alert that amazon puts on its site.

Be prepared to potentially go through all this if you are buying it. Mine is going back.

Very nice     On: 2007-12-26

I just bought this tv mainly for HD and Xbox 360. I also bought an HD dvd player.
PROS:
The picture is great. The sound is fine. I read some reviews saying the sound is weak, however Ive never raised it above 30% and its as loud as youd want in a normal environment. The colors and terrific and watching a HD DVD is incredible. Definetely the best bang for the buck. Wide viewing angles and bright regardless of room conditions (day / night). 1080 P for under 2K, are you kidding!!! ALso= comes wih the led light engine (lasts 20,000 hours, are you kidding!!!
CONS:
Its a bit deeper than I thought, but from almost all viewing angles you cant tell because of the way they created the black frameless look.
If youre lying on the floor, (my tv is on a stand 18" high A.F.F) theres a touch of darker area toward the upper outer edges. However, if you sit up of course the picture is perfect.

ALL IN ALL= just buy it. Im happy I did.
Very Good big set     On: 2007-12-26

I bought this to replace a 3 year old 61" Samsung DLP (720p) set. The picture quality is noticeably better, especially color and contrast. Equal to the high end 32" Samsung LCD set we have. I dont understand why the press (and Consumer Reports) leaves the DLP sets out of most of the ratings. The lack of shadows when viewing fast motion makes them better than LCD when viewing sports. Compared to the standard lamp in the older DLPs, the LCD lamps in this set will never need replacement and there is no fan noise.
Not sure why they bothered to put the small rear facing speakers in this set. With a screen this size a seperate sound system is the way to go.
Very satisfied with this set and with Amazons delivery service.
poor quaility inspection     On: 2007-12-24

The purchase of our new 61" LED Samsung rear projection TV went smoothly and the delivery took less time than estimated by a full 7 days. Delivery was efficient and scheduled when it was convenient to us. The TV was in beautiful shape, no dings or dents. Five days later the TV just quite working. I must say that I called Samsung that evening and they promptly put in a work order, gave me the name of the repair company and their phone number. I called the repair company the next day (they hadnt gotten the work order yet) and they were prompt in picking it up and in a week we had it back working. Apparently it had a faulty DMD Module as well as a faulty ballast power supply. Hopefully, this is the last of our problems, but it should not happen to a new TV.
Disappointing     On: 2007-12-24

I had this TV for about 1 month. The picture was great and it seemed like a very good TV. Then, it started shutting itself off. Called Samsung, they arranged for a service call, the service guy came over and found that he needed a circuit board, so he ordered it. Another week goes by, the board comes in, the guy comes over again, oops,Samsung sent the wrong board. The guy orders another board, still waiting for that one to come in. This TV has been out of service for more than half the time Ive had it. Samsung agreed to extend the warranty, which I suppose is OK,but the TV is just sitting there like a big reminder of failed technology. Im extremely disappointed that it is taking so long to address this problem.

Great TV, no problems.     On: 2007-12-24

We love this TV - simple as that. The picture is beautiful, it looks great in our house, and no technical issues so far. Delivery was good. Its hooked up to a Mac mini via a DVI-HDMI cable running MythTV. Id definitely buy it again.
Sony is better with less troubles     On: 2007-12-23

I went thru 2 of these sets with the blue halo issue and the (((((((()))))))) problem on the screen. Samsung tech support was terrible and denied this was a big problem with these sets. I decided to get the Sony KDS-60A3000. The set looks better and the only problem is a slight geometry issue which was also on the Samsung and is inherent to RPTVs. Get the Sony while you can and avoid this Samsung as it has many problems.

Great TV - Great Experience     On: 2007-12-22

The old Mitsubishi 65" displayed the "green flashing light of death" which was an excellent excuse to buy this TV. No regrets here! Amazon allowed for easy research, the price and buying experience were excellent, and the TV was delievered well within a week by curteous, prompt, delivery guys. After the delivery guys announcing that "snow is a picture" to preclude having to hook up all the audio/video stuff, we fired up the TV and it worked fine. Afterward, I hooked up everything to the satellite, theater system, DVD, etc. and have been amazed by the picture and performance ever since. The only issue Ive had is that my Logitech Harmony universal remote doesnt identify the "Source" button on the Samsung remote for switching between the TV and DVD (HDMI 1 and HDMI 2). So I have to push two buttons instead of one when switching between them - not a problem. Very satisfied!
Great tv     On: 2007-12-21

Picture is very good but Ive come to realize not all HD programming is created equal!! With high quality HD programming, it is absolutely perfect. Gorgeous. Colors are vivid, darks are well, dark! My only complaint is with the quality of the sound. The simulated surround is terrible. Regular sound is ok, but hey, who cares. Anyone buying this tv is probably going to be using an external true surround system. I hardly ever watch from the tv speakers, the kids do, they dont care, but I much prefer the sound system.

My only regret is that is a little big. When watching regular programming. the poor feed is really obvious, all the defects are clearly visible... not a tv problem, but a poor quality 480 feed. I couldnt really tell on my 40in screen... I can really see the poor quality of 480i now. I try to watch HD exclusively since getting this tv... Everytime I turn it on - I get a WOW moment.

Cant go wrong with this tv... oh, and best of all - YOU WILL NEVER HAVE TO CHANGE A BULB!!!!
Samsung 61" Slim Design HDTV     On: 2007-12-21

The Samsung HL6187S LED HDTV is the best set I have purchased to date. It has excellant picture quality. I looked at several LCD and Plasma sets, but for the quality and price, you cant beat the Samsung. Amazons price saved me over $600 from local prices. Also, Amazons "white glove" service was great.

No optical audio out with HDMI!     On: 2007-12-21

For those of you looking forward to using the audio optical output to connect to your receiver, beware that the 87 series will only output HDMI audio to the standard audio jacks. You would need to look at the 89 series to get optical out with HDMI.
Very pleased     On: 2007-12-19

I did alot of research before buying and am very pleased with this TV. I was getting rid of my old 55" projection TV and wanted a larger HD projection slim design and selected the Samsung 61". Like the other reviews this is an awesome purchase. Plus I dont have to worry in 2 - 4 years of replacing the tube or color wheel like some others. I have told everyone I know about it incase they are looking for a HD TV. When I hooked up my old DVD player with HD cables the DVDs look close to HD on the screen. Amazing.
Good 'n Bad and is it really NEW     On: 2007-12-18

Ok, finally took the challenge to buy something this big on-line. Have bought other things from Amazon, but not something like this.

I have a 56" Samsung DLP and LOVE it. Researched the HLT6187SAX and decided I wanted to move up to a bigger TV and one with LED as the light engine.

Ordered it and received it within 5 days. Delivery went smooth (however the guy bringing it on the dolly in the house had it on its end) and Eagle was good (two men). Unpacked it, and noticed there were NO STICKERS on the TV anywhere (on the front advertising its capabilities as seen in all the big box stores demo TVs). This had me worried if it was a "NEW" set or a refurb or returned set.

Turned on the TV and noticed the picture was sloping to the upper right of the screen, as well as the lower left of the screen. Heads were slightly cut off also. NOT GOOD! Called the Samsung service number and they tried to "talk" me through how to fix it... I"m not their technician, they are not paying me to be a technician, send me one out. Samsung finally agreed and the next day they responded.

Immediately he too noticed the picture was off and corrected it the best he can, then he stated "your lower frame (picture frame) is BOWED! Sure enough it curves from the left upward to the center then down. Off about 1/4 - 5/16". The stand supports the center, however the ends droop down. When he put a test pattern on the screen, it is very noticeable. He indicated that he would advise Samsung, however it isnt totally "out of spec". He did say that he is rather particular about his set and he wouldnt be happy with this, and neither am I. He even took digital pictures of the drooping ends to send to Samsung. Only thing he could say that "may" fix the problem is to place block of wood or something on each end to level out the horizontal plane of the frame. NOT! Furthermore, he said he was surprised there were not stickers on the front of the TV as I mentioned above.

So now I will see what Amazon will do. I have many Samsung monitors, another DLP, and really like their products, but this one does not measure up to their quality.
Bad Main circuit board     On: 2007-12-18

Ive only had this TV three weeks and already need a service call. The main board is bad. Remote doesnt work, the buttons on the TV dont work, the set powers on and off all by itself. Very disapointing! The only reason I gave it one star is because when it does come on the picture is beautiful. Hopefully, after the main board is replaced it will work properly.

Great RP HDTV at a great price!!     On: 2007-12-16

Purchased this monitor from Amazon at a good price over Black Friday after pouring over all the reviews here and elsewhere. The delivery service (Eagle USA) is good at what it does and my monitor was up and running in less than 10 minutes. Initially I was disappointed at the picture quality, however after having played with the viewing distance I have to say that this tv is absolutely amazing, producing one of the best picture quality.
