RCA WSP150 900 MHz WIRELESS SPEAKERS     On: 2007-05-13

THIS IS AN EXCELLENT PRODUCT. WE WERE GOING TO HAVE THE HOUSE WIRED FOR SPEAKERS, BUT FOUND THAT IT IS NOW NOT NECESSARY. SAVED US A LOT OF MONEY!
Just OK for wireless!     On: 2007-04-13

Had this set of speakers for close to a year now. They really are nothing special for the price. ONE problem is when running them on battery the signal seems to drift (if you lock in a signal at all)! They do come with power cord to plug each speaker into AC. I have outside wiring so this is no trouble. TWO if you walk between the transmitter and the speeakers the music cuts out.If you plan to buy these and run them on battery alone, and mounting them in a high traffic area (I mounted mine high above head level), DONT PURCHASE THEM!
Is it just me?     On: 2007-03-14

Im shopping around for wireless speakers to use in a conference room at work so that I can pull in a few folks attending by teleconference.

Im sorry, but I just dont think theres any way I could set this up on my conference table without some of my colleagues having to work very hard to conceal a grin, or evan a snicker.

The problem, to put it delicately, is that the antenna is, well, er, its um, kinda... WELL JUST LOOK AT IT! Possible distraction.
Not worth it - terrible product, major vendor issues     On: 2007-03-09

I bought this product as a gift for some friends - following the directions carefully, they were only able to get one of the speakers to work and that intermittantly - after I got the speaker system back from them, I gave it a try - bad results, worse this time - only static from one speaker - I double checked to make sure that I had installed everything correctly including making sure that the correct power adapters were attached to the speakers - no go - and, then, when I went to return it to the company from whom I bought it in Canada, I got the royal run around - finally after lots of phone calls and mail issues (dont get me started on "customs" issues) I returned the product and got the price of the speakers back - however, no refund on shipping either way which amounted to about $89 total - so ... two things: [1] the product is shabby and not worth the price (go to Sharper Image and buy theirs - better product, cheaper price) and [2] never buy anything from Amazon.com that is not from an American supplier.
RCA WSP 150 transmitter     On: 2007-01-22

The transmitter light when connected to the Transmitter adapter and then plugged into the power will not stay on. It fades out and then nothing is possible. I spent a lot of time trying to get them to work (going to Radio Shack) and finally returned them The replacement was EXACTLY the same problem. There will not be a third time! Bad Bad Bad.
Don't buy these!     On: 2006-12-13

Much like the description in most of the other reviews for this product, my experience with these wireless speakers was dismal. Initially they worked in an acceptable manner, though the sound quality was only a couple of steps above poor, with lots of buzz and muddiness. I chalked that up to interference, as Ive had some problems with other wireless signals in my house -- and to the fact that I decided to go for the budget price rather than search for quality. It wasnt a major issue, though, as I was using them in my garage and not very often...I could live with the poor sound quality.

Then...

My wife asked if we could try them in our upstairs bedroom so that we could listen to our Christmas music at night. They worked fairly well there, too, at first (though when the phone rang while I was setting them up I discovered that the cordless phone TOTALLY destroys the signal and you get NOTHING but incredibly annoying static -- to be fair, the product documentation does state that other wireless signals might "interfere"...). We were able to listen to them for two days...then the signal stopped. At first I thought it was the cable box shutting off automatically (we were listening to the cable music channel), but there was still no signal after I turned it back on. Then I checked the RCA transmitter -- no power light.
I checked the plug...yep, plugged in.
I checked the power cord connection to the transmitter...yep, seated properly.
I disconnected it and reconnected it.
Ah-HA! The power light came back on!!! And then...it faded out. No power.
I tried it again...several times (if you keep doing it, it will eventually fix itself, right?). Same result each time.

So I took the transmitter apart, figuring there must be a loose connection inside. Nope. Everything solid as a rock.

Okay, so it must be the power cord! "The wire probably got damaged in shipping and it just took being moved around a few times before it gave out completely," I thought. "Ill just pop over to Radio Shack and get a new one."

Radio Shack Man: "DC 19v 200mA transformer? NEVER Seen anything like that! We dont even have anything close. Cant help you. Call RCA."

Me: "Thanks...."

RCA support website: "That part number is not in our database."

Reply to my e-mail to RCA support: "Sorry youre having trouble. Please call our 800 number."

1-800 support: "That part number is not in our database. Oh...its an Advent product! You have to go to Advent support."

Me: "But it says RCA on the product..."

Them: "Yessir, but its an Advent product. Ill give you their support number."

Me to RCA support: "Thanks..."
Me to myself: "Forget this! Im going to Amazon to look for something else!!!!"

Too bad I didnt check the reviews here first...

One broke, other complete fuzz     On: 2006-11-23

I purchased these speakers about a year ago. If youd like to know what your likely useable time is with these speakers feel free to use this example. Im on Amazon right now buying replacements (ANOTHER BRAND) for these that have completely failed. They worked fine at first, then got fuzzier. One quit completely tonight, no power..nothing. The other still "works" with lots of fuzz. I find myself re-tuning the signal a lot. Time for a replacement. If you intent to use wireless speakers spend some extra bones and get a different brand. Im trying the Acoustic Research AW-871s now. They supposedly have better range. Dont settle for cheap unless you have to. Youll probably be replacing them in a year if your patience lasts that long! Dont say we didnt warn you!
Don't Waste Your Money!     On: 2006-08-29

These speakers, in one word, suck. I made the mistake of buying them because they were so cheap. I guess I forgot the old adage "You Get What You Pay For", didnt I?

They worked "okay" when I first installed them.

In a week, I got bad signals and the speakers didnt work properly.

Worse purchase Ive ever made!!

Dont make the same mistake I did, please! Spend the extra money and get quality speakers!
THESE WIRELESS SPEAKERS ARE GREAT FOR MY ELDERLY MOM!!!     On: 2006-08-09

Purchased these speakers for my 88-year old mother so she wouldnt disturb her neighbors with the volume up so loud on her TV. They are WONDERFUL! She LOVES THEM!! (And so do her neighbors!) Also, theyre apparently easy to install because an 80+ year old neighbor installed them for her. So glad I bought them! Highly recommended!!!!
Barely receives a signal     On: 2006-07-29

I tried hooking these up to both an MP3 player and a stereo receiver. I had to turn the source volume way up (which I expected) in order to get a signal but it was extremely difficult to retain that signal. Halfway through a song, the transmitter would lose the signal for whatever reason and the speakers would emit REALLY loud feedback. Definitely not what you want to hear. After fiddling with the tuning on both the transmitter and speakers and getting the same results, I am returning these.
Semi-pleased     On: 2006-07-12

I bought 2 sets of these speakers after looking into several other brands and found these to be the best price value. Im semi-pleased witht their performance. I bought them to replace my computer speakers because I have a laoptop and an ipod where I store ALL of my music. I like the fact that if I want music in many rooms of my house, I dont have to move the whole laptop as well as a small set of speakers. I leave my laptop hooked to the transmitter in the living room and have music in any room I want, including outside.
The downside: I spend almost as much time trying to get a good signal as I do listening to my favorite songs....the signal always seems to go out when my favorites are on and I find that I have to unplug the AC adapter from the transmitter and plug it back in sometimes to get the signal to come back....
Not for surround sound...     On: 2006-07-11

These seem like capable wireless speakers, however I wanted to use them as rear speakers for my home theater. I discourage you from doing this. They are equipped with a power saver which only actives the speakers when there is a signal. So, if there is not a signal to the rear channel, or the volume is too soft, the speakers will cut out (for example - during a quiet conversation between two people). When this happens, youll hear a loud pop. Then, when the sound comes back on, theres about a 2 second delay, and you lose the effect.
I went ahead and kept them, but not for my home theater. I hooked them up to the headphone jack and used them outside with the batteries for listening to music, cds, etc when working out back. They work fine for this (just dont leave them outside or put them anywhere near the pool!).
Hope this review helps.

Perfect for my application !     On: 2006-06-02

I bought a used pair of speakers and they look and work Great !

I bought them primarily for a TV on my back patio. So whether Im having a party, relaxing in my pool/hotub or sitting at my patio table I can hear the TV without blasting out my neighbors.

After reading several of the reviews before I purchased, I was able to hook up the unit effortlessly and they have been working perfectly ever since.

The metal hooks on the rear of the speakers allow me to attach them to walls or columns anywhere in my yard. I even used one to listen to the ball game in my garage which is almost 100 away through several walls.

Im thrilled ... They are perfect for my application.
Bad choice, bad reception.     On: 2006-05-16

I purchased three of these units for use in three shops that needed music to complete the store ambiance. I paid $70 at Home Depot for the first set and $35 at an online outlet for the other two.

The first set worked okay for the first week with intermittent static that could be remedied with a speaker re-tuning and this prompted me to purchase the other two sets... I searched on Froogle to find the cheaper price.

Problems Ive found with these sets include:
The speakers receive static depending on if someone has walked in the transmitters path.
The transmitter stops for no apparent reason and the power adapter must be removed and replugged to the transmitter to get it going again. <-- This happens more if a slow or quiet song is playing.
The speakers are individually tuned by dial. The speakers are placed above the store fixtures in order to get the widest sound spread. Having to individually tune the speakers everytime static begins to come across in tedious.

These speakers are pretty much useless unless you love the sound of static or no sound at all.
Just Plain Baad     On: 2006-04-08

The item did not work from day one. After connecting all the wires to transmitter, speakers, and my television, nothing worked. At first one of the speakers did not come on, then I noticed that the transmitter light wasnt lite. Tried plugging it into five different outlets, It still hasnt come on.
Tried contacting the seller, by phone, to no avail.
Took the transmitter to a repair shop, they want to charge more than I paid for the whole set. This was a lost cause. It still doesnt work.
no help for dissatisfied users     On: 2006-03-23

Yup they worked really well for what I wanted them for, in my kitchen. I was happy for about a month. Then one speaker myseriously died. Contacting the maker did nothing. They would not support at all. I gave up. Now I still use the one speaker, because I havent found a reliable and good sounding pair to replace them with. How is it that no body seems interested in making a speaker set that would just work nicely off of the computer wireless network? WOuldnt that be the simple and useful solution for millions of us who no longer need or even own traditional stereos?
Disappointing Speakers     On: 2006-03-12

Received the speakers and set them up. One speaker worked great, however, the second speaker would not work at all. Took great pains to ensure I wasnt doing anything wrong. Contacted Beach Audio, from whom the speakers shipped, and they told me to return them for credit of the speakers price, but not shipping which I can understand. BUT, I had to pay for the return shipping which was very upsetting. Beach Audio told me to reorder since they would not REPLACE them and of course the price was higher for the reordered set. NICE! Will not do business with Beach Audio again.
DOA Two bad speakers     On: 2006-03-04

We live in the country so no interference excuse from neighbours.

Wireless phones are in 4.7 gig band and computer wireless net in 2.4 gig band. RCA is at 900 Mhz so should work fine.

First speaker out of the box has high pitched whistle but does play (not acceptable) Second speaker powers up but no reception.

20ft accross open room.

I was a transmission engineer in phone company so I understand these types of system.

Sending it back amd will look at different system.
many problems     On: 2006-03-03

One reviewer is definitely right ... dont listen to quiet music if you use these speakers. Also, the sound quality is kind of mediocre. The biggest problem is that they pick up every signal from every cell phone in my entire apartment complex and amplify it. Beyond that, one of the speakers, after 8 months of use, no longer works very well ... its very quiet and muffled/raspy. Buyer beware.
Good enough that I want to buy a THIRD pair!     On: 2006-02-22

I bought two and use them in different parts of the house to listen to my Sirius Satelite radio. I can walk around the house and listen to either Howard or the Rolling Stones channel through out, using one boom box.

There are a few things to keep in mind if you want to get full use of these.

* A) * Set the volume going into the transmiter higher. 2) Low volume in will cause popping and fading. Very low volume in will for some reason cause the transmitter to shut down. 2) Higher volume in will allow you to lower the preamp volume on the speakers and play with less distortion and lower noise level. When you increase the volume on the speakers, you are amplifying the NOISE as well as the music. Makes sense, right?

B) The power cord is also part of the antenna, so its location and position can be adjusted to improve reception. I used little plastic wire ties to afix the cord to speaker stands. The cord runs straight down like a verticle antenna.

C) The speaker is still a radio reciever and subject to interferrence. You can adjust the frequency on the transmitter and on the recievers (speakers). Fine tune them for the best reception in your location. This may take a few adjustsments. Remember, cellphones, WIFI etc can all interfere!

I tried plugging the transmitter into my stereos headset jack, but it didnt work well, because the output was too low. Im going to cut the plugs off of the Y adapter or make an adapter with bare wires and try using them as the rear (effects) channel of my home theater.

I love these speakers and use them everyday. They could be a little better, but I still love them! Id give them 5 stars if they were a little louder, a little better tone wise and the reception range was a little better. Youd get 150 in an open feild or gymnasium, not my odd shaped house. But for the money, they are a great VALUE!

My house is made concrete & steel and has metalic tinted glass all over, so wireless stuff doesnt work the greatest. With my windows closed & the tranmitter on my patio, I get about 30 with occaisional drift. Your house might be better. Im going to buy another pair because I see that they are discontinued and these sound better than the newer ones. Im also concerned that the new ones may have differnt frequencies, which is a good thing if you want to use more than one pair at a time, connected to different inputs.

Better hurry up and buy now, before I get buy all!
Shuts off when listening to quiets parts in classical music or jazz     On: 2006-01-01

This thing is ruined by one seemingly small problem: the transmitter shuts off when it decides the input volume is too low. I guess the designers thought this would be a useful feature. Unfortunately, it makes the thing completely unusable for music that has quiet sections -- especially classical music. Its really annoying -- youre right in the middle of a piece and all of a sudden you hear a loud "blap!" and it shuts off. Im going to try to return this.
Easy setup and no rewiring your home     On: 2005-12-29

Easy to set up with great quality and sound. Simply plug the transmitter into the source of music and connect the DC adapter; then adjust strength of signal. Next plug the each speaker into their DC adapter (or install batteries) and adjust balance and volume control knobs. Instantly we had music playing on the deck from the stereo in the den. WOW!
Works OK. 2.5 stars     On: 2005-10-10

Works ok. Not worth the price tag new. I purchased refurb for half the price of new. Sounds is not CD quality. Sound is similar to FM radio as the device broadcasts over a FM signal. I live in a condo and placed 1 speaker in each bedroom and hooked the unit up to my stereo in the living room. Now I can listen to my Comcast Music Choice and CDs thru out my home.
Works great with noise filter attached     On: 2005-08-12

As another reviewer noted, the transformers are marked for "transmitter" and "speakers", so be sure to use the right one for each item. The package also contains a noise filter, which you may or may not need to use. In my case, in order to get clear/consistent sound from both speakers, I had to use the noise filter. Im glad I made this purchase. I did not pay full price; I bought mine used/refurbished. If you pay full price, then you might be disappointed.
Worth it - if cheap enough! Not $100!!!     On: 2005-03-02

picked up two sets in liquidation for a big $20 each, and while they are pretty much as bad as decribed elsewhere, I will probably find some use in the future, such as the deck.

I would be royally pd off if I had purchased them at retail price.

My own main issue with them is that they are entirely unsuitable for an iPod: Whenever the audio signal goes off - such as after a playlist ends - the emitter stops broadcasting after a brief delay.

Then all hell breaks loose as the speakers emit a loud chirp-and-screech noise, on and off. A nice way to wake up in the middle of they nigh, if you like to fall alseep to some music...
Worth the money but...     On: 2005-01-25

My wife and I purchased the WSP-150 as an alternative to a seperate stereo or boom box so that we could have the same music in the kitchen as we were playing in the living room. The setup was a bit shaky. I,like another reviewer, expected traditional speaker wire from the stereo to the transmitter. I was a bit put-off by the given connections. You get a male RCA Y-connector to a female 1/8" plug which is useful if you come out of single source such as the TV or a stand-alone cd or tape player. The only other connector is a noise filter. The noise filter will help get rid of any squeals or other interference caused by some electronic devices. The transmitter has a male 1/8" plug that allows you to come directly out of a headphone jack. I went the headphone jack route and experienced a couple of problems:

1)You are not supplied with an adapter to go from 1/8" to 1/4"-I needed one.
2)Getting a good volume balance between the living room speakers and the wireless speakers was a hassle.

Our primary goal was achieved once the balance was worked out. We can have a pleasant volume in the living room and any volume we want in the kitchen.
There are some drawbacks to the RCA-150 wireless speakers:

a)if you want thumping bass-they are not for you. Otherwise they sound good. Good but not great, I dont find the bass boost useful.
b)Quiet music sometimes causes the transmitter to shut off which in itself is another hassle in the setup process-Proper balance using the volume control!
c)having electic outlets close to the speakers-fortunately we do or we would either have had to run the speakers on batteries all the time or run extension cables from the outlets.

A nice benefit...They can go outdoors for parties. They arent rated for outdoor use year-round so dont leave them out!
Not good in condos or apartments     On: 2005-01-23

In apartments or condos where you might live close to neighbors who have 900Mhz telephones and other cordless / wireless devices, this speaker system will frustrate you. Im an electronic engineer. I set this system up in my fathers condo. As soon as we got it working, his phone rang and the transmitter shut down. We verified this a few more times and finally decided to unplug his telephone. The transmitter worked for a bit longer this time but it shut down again when I made a call on my cell phone. We wanted to see how long the transmitter would work if we just stopped using telephones -- but after just 5 minutes (the longest up-time yet) the transmitter shut itself down again. I assumed at this point that interference from a neighbors telephone was the cause. Incidentally, when the transmitter (wireless base antenna) shuts down from interference, you have to reset it by unplugging it from its power source (and plug it back in) to get it to work again. This product is too much trouble at any price.
Junk     On: 2005-01-03

Couldnt get a good signal. One worked better than the other. I finally gave up when they both started hissing.
I could not get my speakers to stop hissing     On: 2004-12-20

Ive tried these speakers for 6 months and could not get a clean signal from my transmitter to the speakers. This resulted in an awful hissing noise. My experience was the same whether I was running off of batteries or off of the AC adapter. The distance between the transmitter and speakers was between 5ft (line of sight) and 10ft (through drywall).

If you are expecting the quality of 900Mhz cordless phones, look elsewhere.

For what its worth, my RCA WSP150 speakers were refurbished.

I have put these bulky duds to rest.
Good Enough for Casual Listening     On: 2004-12-09

Just got a pair and had them set up within ten minutes without any problems. Was easy to hone in on the signal and no noise despite two cordless phones and two baby monitors in our house. The quality is tinny and thin, and they are NOT for surround sound since you can not separate the two channels, but for our rec room they were a nice solution for a room that wires could not be run. If you can run speaker wire in any way, save the money, you can get much higher quality speakers for less if you dont mind the wire.
They work great.     On: 2004-09-21

The documentation is terrible at best, but after working through that Im pleased with the product. I wanted to hook these up to my stereo, but the manual only tells you to use the RCA plugs and connect to the audio out. No stereo I know of has an RCA audio out.... at least not marked that way. Once it dawned on me to use the "tape out" as my audio out I was playing with power tools. Other then the lack of volume control at the receiver, Im pleased.

Pretty good for the price     On: 2004-08-22

We bought these for extra speakers for the house, that we could move around. My Dad has the same ones and was pretty happy, and I have to say we were too. If you are a Expert Stero Person, no they arent for you. But if you are just a person that loves music and just wants a nice pair of speakers, these are for you.

A complete waste of money     On: 2004-08-14

Lots of static, poor quality audio reproduction; Giving this item a 1 star rating is a real stretch...
Poor Sound, Can't be used as surround     On: 2004-07-13

Ok, here is the deal...these cannot be used as true surround sound speakers. They plug into the headphones jack and dont send a delayed signal. The delayed signal in dolby surround sound is what makes the Top Gun jet zoom behind you or in a 360 degrees..etc......
They sounded pretty lame as well. I dont know why others had problems setting them up...it really wasnt that hard....you just adjust the signal.
Id stay away from these unless you are desperate. Spend the extra $100 and upgrade.
review for: RCA WSP150 900 MHz Wireless Speakers
by: Anonymous    On: 2004-06-01

I work in an industrial area with many sources of radio waves and
electrical connections. These speakers work as advertised and I have had no problems what so ever. The actual hook up to the television was very simple and I am very pleased with this product.
Find a refurbished set and save BIG $
by: Anonymous    On: 2004-05-28

I researched a bit and found these speakers on a popular auction website for $39.98 shipped to my door. They were advertised as "open-box", but are actually refurbished by the manufacturer with all the paperwork and accessories. While setting them up, they seemed a bit tempermental with the line level RCA outputs on my system. Fortunately, I have about a half-dozen possible outputs at my disposal, and I was able to find a happy medium using a splitter on my cable box digital audio outputs. The results are excellent. The range and sound quality is better than I expected, and this product is a real bargain at the price I paid. Do your homework and be patient with the setup and they will pay off for you.
Simple Setup...So/So Sound     On: 2004-04-28

I just received my wireless speakers, and spent about 13 seconds setting them up. They certainly pick up sound when its being broadcast from my PC. Problem is, I cant just leave them on when theyre not receiving. Theres a slight static, similar to a baby monitor, that can be annoying. So, Im forced to turn them on and off manually. The sound is ok...not very loud. But, if youre just looking for an easy solution to portable speakers, Id say go for it.
Bad to set up but great once running     On: 2004-04-25

I just got these for Radioshack for $99 (they were on clearence). I do agree they are not the easiet things to set up with the fidling of dials. Some attempts to tune them seem to work with only limited success as they would give out a clicking sound. However once I found a good channel I liked them a lot. I use them to play mp3s that are being streemed from my Linksys Media Adapter.

I live in San Francisco in a middle floor condo and have yet to have issues with interference from my cordless phone or extneral. The guy in Radioshack did say there were some areas on the city where they did not work well.

In conclusion they met my requirement of playing music in both ends of my condo without running wires.

Don't do it.     On: 2004-04-02

It is not worth the money. You spend a considerable amount of time turning dials to get the signals to match on the tranmitter and speakers. You hear humming in the background. The transmitter only works with high volume. So, if its an movie with literally no talking, this is the speaker to use. I wish I would have done my research before I made the purchase. If this is the functionality of all wireless speakers, I guess I will have the house wired.
Good if your expectations aren't too high
by: Anonymous    On: 2004-03-23

I bought these speakers to allow me to listen to streaming online radio and music (including MP3) away from the computer like in the bathroom and kitchen. For music, they are not great. If I turn on the bass boost, they buzz and rattle, if I turn it off, the sound is thin. They work great for talk-type programs, though. I bought refurbished ones, so for the price, not a bad deal. I would not want to pay full price for these, however.
Wireless Speakers
by: Anonymous    On: 2004-01-09

We bought the RCA WSP 150 speakers, used. We installed them today and I would say the sound quality isnt quite as good as conventional speakers. Everything seems to be working fine. The only problem we had was with trying to hook them up to our speaker terminals with the y-splitter. We kept on losing the receiver signal for some reason. So we ended up pluging in to the VCR in/out on our receiver. That seems to work. It would be helpful if we could hook them up to the speaker in/out so we could control the sound from the reciever instead of from each speaker. But all in all, for 30 bucks, not bad.
Works, but hard to get a good signal
by: Anonymous    On: 2003-12-22

Got them working. Sound is OK, but there is some intermittent static. the signal sometimes fades (which leads to losing sound and gaining static). Bad part is the "tuner." You essentially turn a rotary dial on the transmitter to transmit to a certain channel (although you never know which one, just turn til something works). After tuning the transmitter you have to tune the receiving speakers as well which has a similar rotary knob. If you cant get a good, steady signal you just play with the knobs until something works. Can be very time consuming and may not work for everybody depending on the electronics in your house and what your house is made from (might interfere with the signal). Also, what works for one speaker (knob location wise) might not work with the other speaker. I got the first speaker to tune in almost perfectly about 5 seconds after turning it on. 10 minutes later im still working on getting the second speaker to get as good of a signal.
It would have been MUCH better if you could just select something like chanel 1 through 11 via something that "clicks" so you know you are exactly on the right channel and dont have to mess with 3 different knobs to get all 3 pieces of hardware to work together.
I gave the product 2 stars instead of more because of the difficulties in getting a good, strong, steady signal that didnt break up. If the signal had been steady I would have given the product a good 4 stars because the sound is quite acceptable (if you can get it tuned in well).
RCA WSP150 900 MHz Wireless Speakers     On: 2003-09-15

I bought a pair of the speakers but could not get the transmitter to power up. Suspecting a bad connector, I returned the set to Radio Shack. I tried all possible combinations with 2 transmitters and 2 power supplies, but could not get either transmitter to sustain power. Seems like poor quality control to me. The Radio Shack salesperson admitted that they never got them to work in the store.
Kept losing signal

I bought these speakers for a new home theater system so I wouldnt have to string cable all over my room for the surround speakers. When playing an "active" movie (i.e., lots of action) they worked great. When the action died down and there was only talking or no talking, the speakers would lose their signal and got loud static. Once the movie returned to louder activities, the signal popped in again.

OK for music, but not as good for home theater since sound levels do not remain constant.

Pretty Good Speakers     On: 2003-01-31

I got these for Christmas one year and had a really difficult getting good sound out of them. I wanted to use them for my PC to play music around the house. At first I would get very soft sound and sometimes no sound at all. I shelved them for a while and then decided to try them on my PC again with a Soundblaster 16 sound card. Excellent sound. These speakers are not for the impatient person. I do have the transmitter sitting on the top floor on a high shelf so that it can get go transmission. The transmitter can not be surrounded by anything. I can get a good 100 ft out of the speakers. Then I start losing signal. There are times that I get a beeping sound of them. For some reason that does subside. I do recommend them for the price. Beware it might take some time to find the right niche for them.
Must have received a bad batch     On: 2003-01-25

I bought a pair of these speakers at Home Depot and the transmitter was problematic. It would turn on when first plugged in, then die about a minute later. Returned to store and got another pair with same results. Returned again and tried the third pair at the store. Three strikes, theyre out! Probably just a bad batch with the same problem for all.
Great Quality but takes a while to setup.     On: 2000-01-12

These a very good set of speakers for only $80. I wanted to use them in a surround sound setup for my bedroom. The directions were very brief and did not explain the AV hook up at all. It comes w/ white and red AV jacks. My tv has a white & yellow hook up, so I put the white in the white and the red in the yellow and tried to get a signal with the speakers but all I got was static, I tried this for my stereo and vcr too the same result occured. I then decided to put the white in the white and the red in an extra white hook up on my vcr and the result was a great sound quality. One speaker has low static the other is perfect. Great speakers, but beware of the AV jacks it might not be applicable with all AV hook ups.
Medium success     On: 1999-12-20

I bought these to use as rear channel surround speakers after reading the positive and negative customer reviews. The biggest caveat I have is that I expected traditional speaker wire connections and found, upon opening the box, the connection is either through the headphone jack or via RCA connectors (red/white). Neither option provides the channel separation for them to be used as I intended. They are easy to install, but we have a 900MHz cordless phone and a baby monitor and there are static bursts that pop into the speakers intermittently. When dialed in, they provide decent sound for the money. Were going to hang on to them and try them out on the deck next summer.
Great wireless speakers at a reasonable price     On: 1999-12-17

Bought my speakers a couple of weeks ago and had no problem setting them up. Sound reproduction is good and have had no interference whatsoever with my wireless phone (also 900 Mhz). Real test was one week ago when I had a party and used them with 4D batteries each. Played all night long and all my guests were impressed by their performance. I would certainly recommend this product.
There are good 900Mhz wireless speakers out there!

Ive purchased 2 sets of Recoton W440 900 Mhz wireless speakers for myself and 1 set as a gift. They provide very good sound quality and were easy to set up. Total set up time was about 10 minutes. (Took 3 minutes to unpack out of the box and about another 7 minutes to set up)

Had No Problem     On: 1999-12-02

I purchased these speakers prior to reading the negative review and, needless to say, was prepared for the worst. I began setting them up, and was having problems getting a good signal and thought Oh well, guess this was a waste of money. But then I realized I had the wrong AC power supply hooked up to the transmitter (there are 3 power supplies - each specific to the transmitter and speakers.) Once I corrected the supply problem, the speakers worked beautifully. I use them as my surround speakers at a distance of around 30 feet from the transmitter. Few negatives - the sound is a little hot and tinny, even with the bass boost button on (but for 80 bucks, sounds great) and even though the speakers are capable of running on 4 D batteries each (not supplied), the batteries will die quickly (24 hours of use or so). But overall, I am quite pleased and find them to be a great deal.
What a bust

It is this simple. Dont buy this product. After trying for 10 hours through my stereo, both TVs and portable CD I could not get a listenable signal. This was a very frsutrating experience. I want to try some other brands but am skeptical of the whole thing now. If anyone has had success with 900 mhz speakers let me know. The only good thing about this was Amazons customemr service. They were, as always, excellent. I am just upset my deck will still be without tunes.
