Man, This system is old as **** but I had to write a review for it. Its crazy because its been so long. My father bought it on my 13th birthday, I thought it was for me but it was really for the family. To be brief, this has to be the best sounding, and most enjoyable system I have ever owned (PERIOD) . No B.S.!!! When we bought it, it came with a sub woofer which it really didnt need. I had to unplug it a couple times because it was too much (not complaining though). The only problem weve ever had was a common CD skipping issue that occured in 2004. But very minor. Im still kind of upset because my father thought, just cause I went off to college that I wouldnt want it anymore. He threw it away. As soon as I find one for sell, im buying it especially if its new (wishful thinking). Since then I have bought a panasonic 300watt shelf system around 2001 (3 1/2 stars), A JVC 1000watt home theater system around 2004 (4 stars MAYBE), and now I own the JVC HX-D77 which I bought last year. 540watt shelf system. Its okay, not a bad buy unlike the others but nothing satisfied me more than this AIWA. AIWA, where the **** are you? What? youre not in business anymore or something? On: 2002-01-15
Wow, how do I explain the quality of the sound of this complete system? I have a Bose sound system and this is just as great, if not better. I added a subwoofer to my system to give it an even more bass boost. If you have a DVD player, youre in for something great. It is BETTER THAN THE MOVIES! Wait untill you hear the center speaker. It has great features like karaoke, dolby pro logic, and DSP surround sound. This is THE BEST! On: 2000-06-19
To be honest, Ive had better sound from two tin cups on strings. But everything arrives in one box and Amazon will ship it right to your door - and for a 5 channel surround system, the price is right. There are all kinds of DSP (digital signal processing) options you can use to tweak the sound if youre not using a 5-channel input (high end VCRs and DVD players provide this for movie watching); but these options have the habit of cancelling themselves at the drop of a hat. Luckily resetting them is easy. There are all the bells, whistles, karaoke, equalizer, bass booster, dynamic range/compression utilities you could ask for; theres even a drum machine to add rhythm and a slot-machine like irritating game which is, most unfortunately, the machines default setting. (You can make it show the clock by pressing clock each time you power off.) For the price, you get loud, low-end sound, a 3-CD changer, and decent 2-tape and tuner capability. I run my computer sound out through it too, in the mini-disc port, with no problem. Id buy it again, with no illusions about audiophile-quality sound, just because it annoys my neighbors. by: Anonymous On: 2000-06-12
Aiwa systems are definately one of the best value for money stereos you can buy. Despite all the complaints I tend to see, most relate to exceptionally old units - and most relate to those people who never got their Butt into Gear to get it fixed under warranty. Thats what a warranty is for! I have owned several AIWAs and have never experienced anything but the best customer service and swiftness of reply in any kind of problem or query. I would recommend AIWA to my closest friends due to the amount of confidence I have in their products - especially the models relesed in the last two ranges. How about a true fair go... if you buy a unit for under $1,000, you cant expect it to perform and last as long as a seperate component $3,000 plus unit! (I bet you wouldnt treat it as well either) Be fair... On: 2000-06-11

IVE HAD MY AIWA FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS ITS THE NSX V9000. PIECE OF JUNK. CD PLAYER QUIT AFTER 14 MONTHS. SPEAKER BLEW,SPEAKER BOX RATTLES. AT FIRST I WAS VERY HAPPY AND THEN JUST AFTER FACTORY WARRANTY RAN OUT. OOOOO BOY WATCH OUT REPAIR MANS DREAM! $$$$ On: 2000-05-01
I bought an Aiwa product and experienced very poor quality. The stereo cuts out at higher volumes. Also the CD player is already broken after 2 years. I wouldnt recommend this product to anyone. I was attracted to the good sound and even better price, it looks like I got what I paid for. Bad product components from inadequate power supply to poor quality of moving parts even worse customer support. There is no reason a piece of electronics should fail after two years. by: Anonymous On: 2000-04-25
I bought my daught a Aiwa CD player and like the other commentsmade the CD changer quit after a year. Went to get it fixed and therepairman stated he is seeing alot of these all with the same problem. he recommended to stay away from this product. Take his advice. I wish I would of known this earlier. Yes it is cheap for what you get, but it will only last a few months and then you need to go and but something else. On: 2000-04-24

I bought this system about a year ago, never had any problems with the tape or the CD player but when I try to push the volume to the max it shuts itself down. I talked to the customer service agent and he told me that it is a defence mechanism of the system but I still have my doubts if something is wrong with my system. Does anybody have a similar problem ? On: 2000-04-22

Okay, people seem to have trouble with Aiwas CD changers. They do seem to go nuts after a while, but seriously, some WD-40 andsome love can fix that in no time. the fact that you screwed up you system playing scratched CDs and messed up tapes is a bad reason to diss a solid system. This is the latest attempt from Aiwa to make a system comparable in both the large markets and the small markets. It offers good sound, without much clipping until max levels, and is decent in size. This is the kind of system designed for college and boarding school students. It has enough power to shake the room, but is not enough to be a pro. my friends and I use this as a secondary surround to our "station", which harbors a Klipsch primaries and this system. really, like most of Aiwas stuff, this is a good system. If you are a serious sound afficionado, you might want to go Klipsch, or something else higher up. But if you want a simple, yet impressive system to blast for you, go with one of these. they are a good deal, and work well mixed with other brands.my computer system is a CambridgeSoundWorks subwoofer and two Aiwa sattelites. mix and match and you will get good results from this baby. This Aiwa system (like many of the companys products), has some serious problems with it. My friend picked it up about a year ago, and since then its only been downhill. The CD changer conked out, the tape deck became a hazard to his tapes. But its low price ensures that it will still be an attractive option. It does well with most types of music. However there is a bit too much Harmonic Distortion at higher volumes, which is quite noticeable(unless you only listen to heavy metal :)) It might look like a giveaway price at first, but look into it carefully...you may be getting more hassles that you bargained for. My advice is to go for the Panasonic SC-AK58, which has similar specifications to this stereo, but with better overall quality. On: 2000-04-07

I have had nothing but heartache with my Aiwa system. I thought I would replace my old 1990 Sony system. It works great, but I wanted something new. AIWA was the worst electronic choice I ever made. The disc changer sticks all the time. Last time I tried to use it, it did not even work. The latest problem is with the tape deck. A tape got stuck in it. I finally got it out and now the door on the tape deck does not close. I am trading it in for a Sony or Magnavox. On: 2000-03-31

This is one of six Aiwa products I own. I have had it for almost 2 years (since it came out in 1998). As for the CD player... never had any real problems. Once, the lens was dirty and just needed cleaning, most likely because I really dont take the best care of my stuff. Other things to mention: As far as picking a stereo with the best overall quality, price, power, and amount of features - this system is your best choice. On: 2000-03-14
I got this system for X-Mas after months of begging and household deeds. It was so awesome. The 299 watts really shows when you crank it up and the T-Bass makes it even better. The surround sound is excellent and i just bought a sub-woofer and that makes it even better. This is a must buy for someone who wants a awesome system. On: 2000-03-13

Well, after reading several other reviews, it seems that I can add my name to the long list of angry customers who wasted their money on Aiwa products. I, too, have a "wonderful" stereo that now refuses to play any CDs after only a year and a half! This has happened to my parents after two years. This has also happened to my friend who has had her stereo for about a year and a half. Beware all of you who rave about your wonderful Aiwa stereos. The CD players will most likely break in a few years. Have fun! The moral of the story is: DONT BUY AIWA STEREOS! On: 2000-03-02
My son has an Aiwa mini system that the 3-CD changer has quit working after about 15 months of use. In researching on the web, I found this to not be unusual for many Aiwa mini systems. We will not buy Aiwa again. On: 2000-02-15
I purchased this system to compliment my 4 year old RCA projection tv and my new JVC DVD player. The main factor driving me towards this purchase was quality of this system for the price I was paying. Now 2 months later I am still very pleased with this purchase. The instructions provided were very easy to follow - considering I had about 4 devices all hooked together now. They even provide an 800 number to call in case something is not working right or you have a question about the instructions. The sound quality is also very good and the dolby sounds awesome. There are several EQ presets available to choose from as well as a karaoke feature (which to be honest I have yet to use). I have not had any trouble with reception issues at all. If you dont have a lot to spend on your home theater system but still want something that compliments your other components this is for you. On: 2000-01-25
The main influence on my purchase of this system was the cost. I was unable to find a system with half the power for the price. The system has a good, clear, room filling sound. As well, it makes an excellent starer system for a home theatre. However, I was dissapointed with the FM and AM reception. As well, I would suggest the purchase of a subwoofer for anyone seeking serious bass response from this unit. On: 2000-01-24

This is the second Aiwa system I have owned, and I haveyet to have a problem. The best feature about this system is theDolby 5.1 input jacks. When hooked up to a Dolby Digital processor, the sound quality goes up exponentially. You would not believe how much better it sounds than in the normal Pro-Logic mode. Even the rear surround speakers prove to be quite good performers. All in all, I am very pleased with this system. With all the features it has compared to most current shelf systems, this is a real bargain. END On: 2000-01-21

When I first took out this sound system, I was decently impressed. I have had it for 2 months now and everything has worked perfectly, but as others have commented, I am thinking the cd drive may break because it has made an odd squeaking noise when it rotates.... Otherwise, its a great system with some good power but not the greatest clarity. The surround speakers are rather low quality though. The rest is great, so go buy it, because 299 watts for this amount of money is too good to pass up! by: Anonymous On: 2000-01-14
AIWA technically looks good, but its poor quality ~ that comes with an unbendable, three month, sad warrenty. I purchased an AIWA system last year, and to date, its junk. The radio is the only thing that is working (with poor reception). The tape player never did work properly and by the second month, the CDs began skipping and by the third month, it was a corpse. Call it lazyness, but by the time I got around to boxing it up, paying 15 bucks in postage, and returning it for a full-refund, the warrently had expired (by three weeks) and they returned it to me parcel post with a mass-produced letter of explaination regarding the warrenty (or lack of warrenty)Even if I were to have paid them to fix the system, the repair work would have only carried with it a 3 month warrenty. My advice? Save your money for a Sony. On: 2000-01-13

I RESENTLY BOUGHT THIS PRODUCT IM VERY HAPPY WITH ITS PEFORMENCE IT HAD A GREAT PRICE TOO! DOTN PASS UP THIS GREAT BUY On: 1999-12-30
I have noticed that most of the reviews regarding this product are recent. I bought an AIWA system for my college age son. We both felt it was a great value for the money until one month past the warranty expiration when the CD changer quit working. A couple of months later, the tape deck went out. Everyone my son knows with an AIWA product has run into the same problem. My college age daughter reports the same. I tried contacting AIWA, but their web site does not even provide a way to send an e-mail. After an extended wait on their 800 number, I was told there was nothing they could do once a product was 3 months past warranty other than charge what I considered an exorbitant fee for repair. Bottomline: if well-cared for AIWA systems barely last more than a year, how great is the value? On: 1999-12-29

Prior to purchasing this system, I also demoed its sister lower-endsystem (NSX-MT720) and two other systems I wasinterested in: the Panasonic SC-AK57 and Sony MHC-RXD7AV in retail stores. I listened to Miles Davis and other jazz CDs on the Aiwa, Sony, and Panasonic in stores before buying, and was duly impressed with the sound I got from all three. At the time, however, I was most impressed by the sound I would get from the Aiwa for less $$$, and so far I have not been disappointed with the bang-for-the-buck that the NSX-MT920 has delivered. I have not had any problems with "muffled" sound that Ive seen in other reviews, although the system, if anything, could be too powerful for the one-bedroom apartment I live in. The Dolby Pro Logic system delivers excellent sound with Dolby Surround-encoded VHS tapes and gives me more incentive to go to Blockbuster video and actually rent something. If you want to listen to rap music and boom your stereo all day, the Aiwa system is certainly for you. However, if you are more concerned with clarity (i.e. if you are listening to classical, jazz, and the like), either the Panasonic SCAK57 or Sony MHC-RXD7AV I think will serve you better for the same price... I still believe the NSX-MT920 is a good value for its current price. Additionally, I believe the NSX-MT720 is also more than enough for the casual listeners home theater needs. by: Anonymous On: 1999-12-08
this is trully the best for its size. but i could have paid $ less at a price-club or a cosco that whould have saved me enough for a new CD On: 1999-12-07

What a nice surprise, a product that delivers what it promises and a whole lot more. This is a powerful little package with enough punch to knock your socks off. The karaoke feature is fun and easy enough for the entire family. You can bet well be singing Christmas Carols with the help of the Aiwa NSX-MT920 299 Watt Home Theater Mini System. This is a must have if you love music and the price, lets just say I really shopped around and this price was almost ½ of the next lowest price I found. Hurry and snatch this up before they realize how under priced they are. On: 1999-11-23

I just received this system a while ago and I think it is a VERY powerful,VERY sophisticated looking stereo. With 299 watts of total power it gives you the major bass according to how you have it preset.(Rock,Jazz,Pop,Classic,etc.)I have it in my room and it looks great and it gives you THE REAL surround sound sensation.I could go on and on with all the details, but youll have to buy it yourself to experience it.If you buy this stereo I can promise you, youll be VERY happy with it.
