Subwoofer DEAL!!     On: 2007-02-19

I cant imagine what some of these people are doing with this product?
This is a $199.00 15" subwoofer. If you have some nice bookshelf speakers and want something that will put out much more than reasonable low end response, its great. No, its not an Aerial $5,000.00 product, but, darn, its does a nice job. I have found mine to be much more than just satisfactory. I dont play rap music at 200db, which is why I probably have not had any problems. I love the fact it has a 15" driver and a nice large ported cabinet. It really gets the low register on the music scale, and it is warranted for not one or two or three, but for FIVE long years. Mine has not blown one single fuse, it has the auto turn on/off feature, when it receives a signal, so I never have to worry about turning it off, and I say buy one, if you can find one. I did add some nice air conditioning insulation in mine, smoothed things out nicely. I am using this with Legacy Studio loudspeakers, which are just nice little bookshelf speakers, and boy does it cut the mustard on adding that bottom end, GREAT GREAT addition. How does anyone not have a subwoofer these days, I have them on every system I own! Oh, I do have the Aerial subwoofer, but then its used with Aerial loudspeakers and Jeff Rowland equipment, big difference, but for a small to medium system, the AudioSource is the ticket, oh yes!

At above reasonable volume levels it does a very good job. I have one thought on this blowing fuse issue, some buyers must indeed be using this at extremely high volumes, and therefore the amp is getting hot and blowing fuses. I have had mine very loud, and never blow anything, but most of my listening has been at normal listening levels, where the low end is tight and controlled, and I dont push a $200.00 designed driver and amplifier into a $2,000.00 subwoofer range.

Some common sense here would go a long way.

Trouble ... at first ... then Redemption!     On: 2004-01-21

Sounded great for a short while. Fuses keep blowing so something is very wrong. Hoping Amazon takes care of this one ... well see. Depressing to have something that should work yet wont ... I never cranked it up or drove it hard.

Stay away from Audiosource.

UPDATE: they sent a new amp section --- easy to install and has been superb since then. Now 4 and 1/2 stars. Its been fine for two years plus now! Excellent customer service too!
Two have blown
by: Anonymous    On: 2003-11-02

My first one lasted less than a month. Blew its fuse and when I replaced the fuse, it just made a loud hum. The amp was blown. I have an HK510 AVR with sub-out, so I know I didnt give it too much juice. I was skeptical to get another one, but decided to try in hopes I just got a lemon. Amazon was great and paid for shipping both ways. The second one lasted a few months and then the exact same thing. I sent an email on Sunday to thier customer support and got both an email and phone call from them on Monday. They told me they are aware of the problem and have a fix. They are having me just send the amp, so I dont have to pack up and send this beast. Good customer support so far.
About this subwoofer..     On: 2003-09-13

I bought this subwoofer about 2 years ago from Amazon.com and I was pleased the day it came. It is placed in a room that has cement walls and a cement floor, and it still delivers bass you can hear and feel. I run it with a 500 watt surround sound reciever, and it is used with large speakers.
I havent had any problems with the subwoofer thus far. Some of the other reviews list the amp getting hot fast at high sound levels, and after a few hours at loud volumes, yes, the amp will get hot. Shutting it down for a few minutes, though, will cool it, and prevent any damage due to overheating. As far as performance, this subwoofer can handle relatively high volumes without distortion. Basically, for the price and sound quality, it is a good buy for anyone interested in adding the low-end sound to their system.
Unsatisfactory
by: Anonymous    On: 2003-04-15

After 3 months, 2 drivers, 2 amplifiers and $...to ship the parts back twice, we are still dead in the water. I should have stopped the bleeding within the initial 30 days and sent it back to Amazon. The unit instead will be going into the trash can. In retrospect, I should have researched further and found out this was a discontinued item, and that Audiosource does not have replacement parts.
Earth shaker     On: 2003-03-24

Man got it a few days ago and already cracked the cealing. its big but its worth it. I hoocked it up to my stereo and you can hear it outside. Also the only thing bad about it is that the volume of it gets a little destorted at high volumes. Also the amp gets kinda hot fast. But other than that its great!
Not for high power applications.     On: 2003-03-11

I took the chance and bought this sub because of the good price. Well I think you get what you pay for. I hooked it up to 120 watt Kenwood receiver and was not very happy with the sound but it wasnt terrible. I just expected more. My real unhapiness comes with the fact that every time I turned the stereo up past 40% The sub would get extremly hot and blow its internal fuse. After about 4 fuses It blew for good. It sat in the box while I remodeled for about 35 days before I even used it.... Dealing with the audiosource factory people for a return was not a pleasant experience either. It cost me... dollars to return it to them for repairs and I have yet to hear from them since I sent it back a week ago. I geuss this would be a nice unit for a smaller stereo system, But It wont add much to a higher end system. Update. 6months later, returned twice to factory with unsatisfactory results. Finally they sent me a different older beat up one to replace my new one I bought. and it sounds terrible besides. I will never buy audiosource again.
best bang for buck!     On: 2003-03-10

Let me start of buy saying this subwoofer kicks ...! With that said lets start the review.. I order this item sunday night and it arrive to my door friday afternoon. This item is big, I mean really big. its about the size of a 20" tv box and heavier than a mug. I hooked it right into my pioneer htv system and at first I was kinda dissapointed in the hollowed out sound, I then proceeded to my nearest [store] to buy some much needed polyfil. after using nearly a whole bag on int he box, I was really amazed at the preformace gain, literly night and day diffrence.
In a nutshell, this item rocks with the ... back of polyfil mod. oh by the way set the crossover at 80hz and gain at half and watch blade 2, and if that doesnt sound like the movies I dont know what does!
Stunning     On: 2003-03-06

I have a pair of JBL EON 1500s running in my rather large concrete space. As a pair of full range cabinets, they have always been missing a bit of the low end.

Based on all of the reviews found here, and the stellar price, I decided to go for it and pick up one of these subs. I believe the JBL alternative was $...

PERFECTION - I didnt do anything to mine (like fill it with foam or whatever), and it sounds great. Exactly what I needed.

*** Make sure to look at the dimensions, it is in fact a "large" thing - its not something that will hide easily under your desk at all.

Bang for the Buck is all that I need say. Granted, at the new 200.00 price this Subwoofer isnt the deal it was at 150.00. If you scan the market place and do some listening tests its still far and away the best deal out there.
Excellent Value, can not be beat online or retail     On: 2003-01-22

My Sub came a week ago. The first thing I noticed is it already has fiberfill. It was obviously brand new. First hooked it up with cheap patch cords and a Y cable. Sounded great. Bought 25 feet of monster sub cable and a monster y cable. Now it ROCKS. You will not be disappointed. I noticed the fiberfill is blocking the ports. Will move it around if I get adventurous, but it is not necessary. I am not an audiophile. Just an average guy with an average receiver and a super powerful subwoofer!!!! Good for music, awesome for movies. Saving Private Ryan will rock you!
SW Fifteen is Great     On: 2003-01-20

I was shopping for a powered sub for a while and finally chose the sw 15. I couldnt be happier with the performance. For those of you operating a surround sound system without a powered sub (like I was) you have to purchase a powered sub and for the price you cant beat this unit. Be prepared though, this speaker is BIG.
Just amazing. And I was auditioning $.... subs.
by: Anonymous    On: 2003-01-16

Ok, I had decided to buy a new Sub for my Digital Home theatre. I was out there looking at the big boys - Velodyne, NHT, etc. etc.... and had fixed in my mind that for the punch I wanted I was going to have to spend about $.....

Cmon - Im not a huge audiophile... I want it to sound good and I want it to make the movies more realistic. Like 90% of the buying public, a tiny bit more harmonic distortion is not going to matter with the kids playing in the background and the dishwasher running.

Then I stumbled on this thing. AudioSource? Never heard of them.

The price? No way, it must be junk. THINK AGAIN.

I am so pleased with this purchase that I give this 5/5. It is not as "tight" as some subs for things like Jazz, but for making the low-end rumbles of the action movies and sci-fi DVDs I love theres nothing Ive heard that is THAT much better. My Dolby Digital System came to LIFE with this sub. EVEN MY WIFE THINKS ITS COOL!

I added some poly-fill inside with a staple gun to correct a tiny bit of boominess, but it was strictly optional. It took 30 minutes and 30 bucks. Now I would be suprised if I could tell it from the more expensive subs.

I used a good quality sub cable from Monster (the cheaper one they sell)

Bottom line? Great thump for the buck     On: 2003-01-16

I recently purchased this sub from Amazon- it had a great price, and the order was processed, shipped, and delivered in less than a week (impressive, particularly considering how long it took a different local buisiness to deliver a new sofa).
This sub is large in size, but has a nice look to it. It blends in fine with my other speakers and electronics.
This sub has deep, rich low end, but is a bit boomy on the high end. I have not placed filler in it yet, as suggested by many other reviewers, but plan on doing that soon.
Ive viewed and listened to many other subs around- particularly the popular JBL line found at your local electronic warehouse- this sub is better than the JBLs, and much less expensive.
It makes a great complement for my theater system, and makes movies that you can feel, as your floor, couch, walls, and chest vibrate (Ill probably get evicted from my apartment for having it, but thats the price you pay...).
Bottom line? Great thump for the buck.
AudioSource SW Fifteen Delivers     On: 2003-01-13

As many others were before me, I too was skeptical of a 15" sub at such a low price. But I figured, what the heck, if it sucks, I can always return it. After a couple days, I decided it was a keeper.

Out of the box, it is indeed tubby. The really low end was there, but at a much diminished volume. It had issues with definition. The raw power though, my god man! This sub will bring out the harmonics of an entire house. Play something with a bass sweep in it and you will understand what I mean. It gets seriously boomy and muddy at anything over 100hz. The power switch is upside down by normal conventions (up is off, down is on).

Off to the store we go to get some polyfill. I bought 2 pillows that were on sale, ones with polyester filling. Upon arrival at home, I cut the pillows open and pulled the stuffing out. Then, I unscrewed the subwoofer, pulled it out and began stuffing the inside of the box. I put about four inches if not more of polyfill on every wooden surface inside that box. I made sure to cover the ports as thats the way it came. I put everything back together, plugged it back in, hit play on the cd player, and listened. The bottom end magically appeared! The bass tightened up so much, and all the little subtleties appeared. An absoultely amazing difference for a $7 mod and 15 minutes of time. This sub really *will* compete with other subs that go for hundreds more.

4 stars for music
5 stars for home theater (This is the one you are looking for, I cant say enough)
5 stars for value

Strengths:
Goes way deep.
Very Powerful.
Price.
Dead ringer for home theater.
Perfect sub for an already decent speaker system.
Knobs have "notches" for better feel of settings.
Will keep up with fast bass passages.

Weakness:
The mod is an abolute must. If you wont spend a little pocket change and 15 minutes of time, dont bother, you wont be happy.
Size (The manual says to hide it under a coffee table. Thats some coffee table. Use it as a coffee table maybe...)
Its not a work of art by any definition.
Power switch is somewhat unconventional.
Its mush over 100hz.
Dont even try to hook this up with your $ computer speakers.
Makes you subwoofer proof your house.

Akmacdon is a dope

No wonder he/she has gone through two of these: theyre hooking a powered subwoofer to a power amp. Obviously they dont understand signal flow or at the very least how to hook up a stereo.
BEST KICK FOR THE MONEY     On: 2003-01-12

Just purchased another one after having the first only eight months..Yo will not go wrong with this sub for the money..After doing minor mods you have a sound simalar to those in the 5 to 6 hundred price range..I also have owned audio source sw12 downfire and new of there quality and sound so jumped on another one when I seen the price drop..The SW15 will perform it duties well and hold up strong in the long run...The sound is very crisp and the bass is deep where ya can feel it more than here it after you do the modification to the inside...Definately the best thump for the buck!!!!!
not bad...     On: 2003-01-11

i stared looking for a sub about six months ago. I was on a really small budget and the most i was willing to spend was a pathetic [$$] dollars. The expectations that i had for a sub and the price range made my selection very, very limited. i stared looking at the KLH ASW10-120 Powered Subwoofer. Even though this would have had blown away my 30 watt sub that i stole from my Dell (sweet computer), i knew that it wouldnt of had satisfied my bass craving. Then i stared looking at the KLH ASW15-200 15" 200W sub. This sub has the same woofer size and wattage as the A.S. SW Fifteen but there is a difference. The KLH has only 80db of sensitivity while the SW Fifteen has about 91db. This means that the SW Fifteen is more efficient with using its power so it can get louder even if they both share the same # of watts. i set my eyes on the AudioSource SW Fifteen and waited about a month to purchase it and caught it at 149 bucks for a Friday sale. Now, dare i say that i did look at other places on the net to buy this sub? Yes i did but Amazon is probably the best place to buy it. i even saw one wacko place have it for over 400 bucks + shipping. i received it 6 days after i bought it (not bad for free shipping which i saved about 36 bucks on! Thanks Amazon!) i read reviews on how big this thing is and all i have to say is... theyre right! This thing is pretty big. Now, its not half the size of your refrigerator but, it does take a fare amount of space. Another aspect is that this thing is heavy! 63 pounds heavy! i had a really hard time tugging this thing up the stairs. When i opened the package up, it took me no more then 40 seconds to pug it in and plug in the RCA cable. I popped in one of my dance CDs and stared wondering just how much i had been missing! My impression of bass has changed forever. This thing can literally shake the house. I had to put a shirt in the door when i closed it or else my door would be louder then my other speakers. i dont think i could bear the bass if this thing could get any louder... well maybe not but this thing can get loud! This thing not only blows away the 30 watt sub, it killed and buried it! I was also playing one of those games where about 5 cars duke it out for no real reason. The explosions were breath taking. Even though the graphics were [bad], it sure sounded like i was right there.

Summary: this thing kicks and it kicks hard, adding a lot of life to your music, movies and games!

Recommended: Heck yea!

No more skepticizm     On: 2002-12-12

Before I ordered the SW15, I was skeptical about its performance due to its price, but after receiving it in 4 days (free shipping besides) and listening to it, Im a true believer. I set the volume level at the 9 oclock position and the crossover at 100 Hz and I can feel the bass. My previous 10" powered sub cant even come close. Best deal Ive seen in a long time.
Audiosource SW 15     On: 2002-12-10

Ok, just got my sub and have been using it like crazy. I originally purchased a JBL PB 10 for considerably more than this cost. I returned it because it just didnt do the job. I read the reviews and decided to try this, and it seems to be doing the job nicely. So far I have set the crossover to 80 hz and the same on my receiver. I have played Star Wars and Jurassic Park, and my roof has just about blown off. Just what I was looking for. Also, many other reviewers were talking about putting polyfill in the cabinet. Mine just came with polyfill already inside. The bass is crisp and punchy, while still being powerful. So, apparently someone from Audiosource read these and did something about it. I have it hooked up using the LFE connection, and a Y adapter. The thing is big but who cares thats whats required for bass to be felt. I have worked on sound professionally in performance venues and can say confidentally that this sucker kicks, and to give her a try!
Great sound, Low price
by: Anonymous    On: 2002-11-24

Bought this as replacement for a sorry KLH sub that died. It adds great bottom end to my home theater without emptying my wallet. Came with a cd for setting up too. Its just what I needed. Judging from other reviews there may be some lemons out there but not here.
what a piece of garbage     On: 2002-11-19

They have really outdone themselves this time. One would think that a company like audiosource could build a decent product. Well guess what they cant. Today I received my replacement for the first broken SW fifteen that amazon sent me. I hooked it up using the best cables (monster) to one of the best amps (Pioneer Elite) and guess what. The piece of junk doesnt work. I have had it with Amazon and Audiosource the item is already in the mail going back. I am done with cheap $199 subwoofers. Seriously if you have a half decent sound system dont buy this sub, dont even waste your time. Go high end and get amazing sound and a product that at least works. On a further note if are serious about sound go to a retailer so that you can touch, see and hear the item before you buy it.
lets hope for the best     On: 2002-11-13

I was extremely excited to recieve my sub. I couldnt believe what I was getting for what I was paying. Much to my delight my subwoofer came 2 days after I had ordered it (not bad for free shipping) Any ways I was in ectasy while attaching the sub to my Pioneer Elites sub-woofer pre-out makeing sure all of my monster sub cables were in their rightful plugs. Upon connection of the subs power cord i flicked the subs power switch. First the on positions LED glowed red instead of green and then the amp startd to heat up consideraly this all climaxed with a violent BOOOOOOMMM from the massive 15" inch driver which violently blew the rooms dedicated breaker. I was lefty in the dark clueless, What happened to my beutiful sub. It is in route to amazon as I type this. Hopefully the replacement will be much better than the runt sub i first recieved
Great Sound for the price

I am a Live Sound Eng. and have alot of power at my hands (Sub wise) in our concert system, so when I watch TV I want it to sound as good as live presentations, I watch alot of live programs on CMT I want to feel like im there, I now get the Kick Bass and the Bass Guitar I like to feel, made my system complete.
A+++++++
Great deep bass sound!!! Great bargain too!
by: Anonymous    On: 2002-11-01

Great bass sound!! This subwoofer really great given the price of it. A little tubby at first, but easily alleviated by adding polyfill. Just one thing that you need to know, this thing is huge! So if you are planning to hide the sub somewhere, this one may not be the one for you.
Wanted a Subwoofer not a concrete mixer.
by: Anonymous    On: 2002-10-30

OK - read the reviews and bought. LOOSE! The thing has electronic direhia. My goal was to upgrade my bedroom systems 50 watt 10 inch Pioneer by moving my Radio Shack 100 watt 10 inch into this bedroom system from the living room and moving the Pioneer to the guest bedroom system.

Once I had this monster (sizewise) positioned and hooked up the disappointment rapidly set in. It doesnt play music it just vibrates! The Radio Shack 10 inch has good tight bass response and added to the music. Overall a good little unit that more than does the job.

The AudioSource even after two hours of adjusting and repositioning basically just vibrates. The thing can shake the floor like mad, but so can a concrete mixer and so far the musical qualities are a dead heat.

Am gonna add the fiberfill many have used. But if it is not a huge upgrade in performance this puppy is going back to Amazon for a new home.

If you want to sit in your chair and get vibrated you would really enjoy this unit; but if you want to enhance your musicial experience definitely look elsewhere.

A followup to previous review
by: Anonymous    On: 2002-09-23

I did add the polyfill to the speaker cabinets and it made a world of difference. Much fuller bass and a lot less tubbiness. And I see that they have marked this down even more than the 199.00 that was shown earlier this year. If i had more space i would buy another.
it was so good i ordered 2 of them     On: 2002-09-11

just about the best sub that i have seen on the market,
reproduces low freq with amazing accuracy sounds too good to be true / blends in well with recording rooms great forr bass effect a good all around sub for youre money I rate it a 10 for great proformance. you be happy when you get it .
Great price-performance ratio     On: 2002-08-03

First of all, this thing is big. I mean really big. But if space is not a problem this sub is unbeatable for the price. I live in a townhouse and this is set up on the first floor, when this sub is turned on you can feel it on the third floor in the shower! Luckily, my neighbor appreciates loud music. It really adds a lot to a home theater system. The amazon description states that it is not video shielded, but the CD that comes with it stated that it is so Im not sure who to believe. The 12 inch audiosource sells for the same price, so if space is not an issue I suggest just buying this one. Also, the warranty on this one is 5 years and twelve inch only has a 2 year. It is super easy to hookup, but you may need a Y-adapter for the line level out of your receiver. Some of the other reviewers here state that they have two of them hooked up to their systems, I see that as a waste of money. One of these provides plenty of bass for any system. With two you will just make your house fall down quicker. One shakes the place plenty and scares the pets enough.
Great addition for home theater and music     On: 2002-06-29

This subwoofer has been a much needed addition to my RCA RT2500 home theater system. After reading reviews on the item here and on a few other websites, I decided to look for the cheapest price I could find it for. I lucked out and caught it at the most popular online auction site for under a benjamin. When I first hooked the subwoofer up it did sound too boomy, tubby, and muddy especially when playing music, so I followed advice from others by using spray adhesive, staples, and twenty ounzes of polyfil to line the vast majority of the inside of the subs cabinet. I did not block the ports and stayed three inches away from both the driver (to not limit excursion) and the amplifier (to avoid overheating.) The unit does have a little port noise so partially covering each port can be done to minimize this if desired. Once I hooked the speaker up the bass transformation was incredible. The bass became more punchy and responsive. I could not believe this was the same speaker. For less than ten bucks, I made this thing sound like a sub costing at least five hundred bucks. I must admit that there was still a little trace of boominess left, but this is OK since I am primarily using it for home theater and got it for so cheap. You could always add more or less polyfil to get it just right for yourself. The sub is not slack on features either because it has plenty of hook ups (RCA and speaker wire), variable crossover, variable level, and an auto-on feature. Other suggestions I would have to give is to consider the power and size of this sub before buying. It is huge (a few inches shorter than a two drawer file cabinet) and powerful (when added to the 200 watt sub on the RCA RT2500 shakes entire house at half power) so discuss this purchase with other family members and consider your neighbors before turning it up high. Other modifications can include adding spiked feet if on carpet or placing a heavy object on top of the sub to keep it from sliding when it is really pumping some serious bass. I went to a local garden shop and bought a 16" x 16" x 2" cement block, placed it neatly completely inside of a black T-shirt, trimmed the excess off, placed a 15" x 15" piece of cardboard on top of the sub to protect the finish, and finally anchored the sub down securely under the heavy load. Other suggestions would be to use heavy gauge speaker wire or preferrably a shielded subwoofer cable with a Y adapter to hook this thing up and maybe even use heavier wires to connect the speaker to the amplifier on the inside (they looked smaller than they should have to me.) If you are super dedicated you could even line the inside with acoustic tiles first before adding polyfil.

BUY THIS SUB NOW!!! Then easily modify it to suit your tastes, and use the money you saved to buy DVDs, CDs, VHS tapes, upgrade other components, or whatever and enjoy.

One really great sub
by: Anonymous    On: 2002-06-18

I was on the email list awaiting amazon to stock this item. I grew impatient since i have been on this list since the beginning of 2002. I ordered from an online competitor since i did not know of any retail stores in Atlanta that would carry this model of sub. I paid almost 50 dollars more per sub (I bought two). I still think that they were worth the price. I just wish i could have gotten them for Amazons price.

I have a huge stereo with 3 reciever/amplifiers daisy chained together to supply 5 pairs of loudspeakers and one passive sub. One sub just wouldnt do, no matter what its size. Boy was i wrong. One SW-15 could have done the job quite well. But i have two of them and the house shakes from foundation to roof. I have to check and see if my neighbors are home or not to see if i can turn these subs up or not.

I want to address a couple of issues from other reviewers. No banana clip connectors, wah wah wah, if you have them on your speaker cables, just clip and strip to get bare wire, problem solved.

The speakers plunge deep and unrestrained. The lowest of lows is as forceful as those in the upper register of sub frequencies.

Yes, these speakers did sound "tubby", but since i had two of them, i put one on left channel, and one on right channel which eliminated a lot of the tubbiness from playing both right/left channels through one speaker. I am also planning to add more polyfill to these cabinets (which another reviewer suggested) which should provide more definition.

Finally let me address the issue of price, the reason it is much cheaper is because Audio Source isnt as prevailant in the market as Pioneer, Sony, Cerwin Vega, etc. But thats just it, you arent paying for the name. You are paying for the product only. Which is what makes this one of the best subs on the market. I am completely happy with my subs and turn them up every chance i get.

If you are planning on buying one of these, go right ahead, you wont be upset. If amazon is stocking them, buy it right away, they sell out fast. If you should be like me and decide to buy them elsewhere for a bit more, you still wouldnt be wasting your money.

AWESOME AUDIOSOURCE     On: 2002-03-06

I just received my second audiosource sw fifteen. The first thing I noticed is that its not as tall as my current one. Next out came the fiberfill, And as with the first one It magically bacame this musical and down rite brutal subwoofer. A awesome deal for 199.00 The only problem I have is its now on sale here for 189.00 the same day I received mine. Im in Home Theater Heaven with two of these beast. I would recommend to anyone on a budget and some that are not!
T-Rex A'Comin!!     On: 2001-11-21

Our main interest in buying this subwoofer was to give our home theatre system some of the low-end impact you feel at the movies and for that use its a success. I spent the first evening running through bits and pieces of Jurassic Park, Top Gun and Independence Day, messing with the crossover point and level control and eliciting some interesting harmonics from our china cabinet. Yeah, its that powerful. Im going to replace the cheap speaker-wire clips with binding posts: hence the 4 stars. At this price Im not worried about whether or not doing so voids the warranty! Other than the terminals, Id give it a five. Oh: be prepared to let your subwoofer replace an end table or something: the guy is big. BUY this sub if you want the true theatre low end but dont expect to hide it under the couch.
SW15 Subwoofer
by: Anonymous    On: 2001-11-04

I have purchased two of these bad boys. I recommend adding some polyfill to the inside cabinet as it turns a tubby sounding subwoofer into a very tight and defined subwoofer. A $4 purchase makes this subwoofer perform as good or better as a sub costing 3 times a much.
Recommended without reservations.     On: 2001-07-12

I bought my SW Fifteen at Amazon...The thing was very heavy and quite large. I decided to place it as suggested, at least about 3 feet from the side and rear walls. My main speakers are a pair of Klipsch La Scala’s which are extremely efficient and can play very loud with very low distortion but are somewhat restricted in the very low end, so the ideal match would be a subwoofer which could play equally loud and that could go deeper into the low end. After reading the consumer reviews on the Audiosource SW Fifteen I decided to give it a try. After a lot of tweaking with the crossover and the level setting I got the most balanced sound at about 45 hz for the crossover and about 1 o’clock for the level control. Because I wanted to use it for home theater as well as music I went with the high level connection. I had an Audio Pro SW-50 subwoofer for about 8 years until very recently I decided to give it to my kid brother. This subwoofer was very revolutionary in its time and I paid [lots of money] for it. There is just no comparison. The SW Fifteen is absolutely fantastic. There are opinions about it being boomy, maybe because the crossover is set too high. I think it is better suited for systems with bass capable main speakers. In my case, with the setting at about 45 Hz, it sounds better than anything I have ever heard (including the velodyne’s and the M&K’s). The included test CD is helpful up to a point because the test tones have center frequencies to far apart. I found the Stereophile’s test CD to be better for fine-tuning the subwoofer blend with the main speakers. After the tweaking I played one of my favorite movies on DVD, Crimson Tide (chapter 18 has some fierce explosions). My room was shaken. Quite an experience. In the included test CD, tracks 10 to 14, the bass is extremely well defined and extends quite deep. How can Audiosource develop such a marvel for less...is a mistery. The bottom line is that it is one of the best subwoofers I have ever heard regardless of price. Recommended without reservations.
Home theatre only     On: 2001-02-23

This sub is a great bargain---for home theatre. I run a few DTS cds, but through a different sub.

However, for special effects, this thing is amazing, and I havent even used 1/2 the power. The lows are truely in the SUB-woofer range, as opposed to most "subs" which are actually in the woofer range, and distort badly when pushed.

Best Boom for the buck     On: 2000-10-06

I recently purchased this 15 inch sub and it is every bit as good as the previous reviews say. I have seen some subs that hang with it, but they are generally [cost more]. I am impressed. I have ordered from Amazon.com on 4 occasions and have been thoroughly satisfied with every item and the timliness of the delivery. They have my business!
Absolutly Best Sub For The Price!     On: 2000-10-06

I had my doubts about this sub when i ordered it. I mean 15inch 200 watt power handling for [such a great price]? Sounds cheap to me and i was exspecting cheap sound. The bass is amazing! Audiosource is not the most known brand in the world such as sony but i have to hand it to em. I am 15 years old and was lookin for a sub to bring the house down and piss off my parents, i found it! With my sub cranked and pushing the max power handling i still cant hear a hint of distortion. If you want a sub to take the house down this is the sub for you. I knocked the china of the shelf in the kitchen about 30 feet from my sub through walls at less than half volume, just givin an example of what to expect. BUY THIS NOW!
Such low end bass for such a low price     On: 2000-09-20

I found this power house on the net and was sceptical about its performance for such a low price. I tested this speaker with the local rap stations, bass CDs and DVD movies and was impressed. (Memo to self: put pictures back on walls before wife gets home) Then I put in a DTS DVD and for some reason the DTS intro will peak the speaker, but nothing else does, not even the movie following the intro. I give this speaker five stars despite the DTS intro, it hits hard with plenty reserve. ...
best boom for the buck!     On: 2000-08-23

I think this sub has more than enough power. It rattles the china in the cabinet. I like the demo/test CD that came with the sub too. After shopping around and listening to many competitors models, this is putting out better sound than many ... models. My advise, if you want to spend ...0 on a sub, do not go for the 8" or 10" models. . . go for this 15" one!
A Subwoofer Anyone Can Easily Add to Their Music System
by: Anonymous    On: 2000-07-09

The AudioSource SW Fifteen Powered Subwoofer is an excellent subwoofer for the price (thanks Amazon!) and easily integrates into most music systems. Its set up is a snap, anyone can do it. I have it matched with three different pairs of bookshelf speakers that I can switch between, and all are in a surround sound set up. It compliments the system with all three pairs of bookshelf speakers by adding the needed lower bass without being too "booming" and pronounced. It can play loud when it is made to do so, but the speakers strong point is the overall bass blends quite well with most speakers. An added plus is I did not have to do a lot of adjustments to the subwoofer to get good sound (needed bass) from it.
Warning! Not for the weak!

Wow, money sure goes a long way with this sub. You might aswell buy 2. It is loud. It really adds a lot of depth to music andmovies. This sub has all the connections you need to hook it up to any system. You could connect just about anything to this sub. And with a 5 year warranty I dont have to worry about it breaking down! Id be careful turning it all the way up, it could shake your walls down! END

Can't beat the price     On: 2000-01-29

I added this to a system with (2) 15" Speakers and (2) 8" Speakers and it gave a lot of punch. Can we say knock pictures off the wall?
great sound

I was really impressed with this speaker. it made a world of difference to the overall sound of my system. The service from audiosource was also very good, and with a five year warrenty you cant beat it.
Good for the price

This is a fair quality subwoofer. It is a very good price and has a lot of power. On my system the SW15 plays frequencies as low as 22hz, which is impressive. The bass is not as punchy or resonating as higher-priced models (Cerwin Vega, Velodyne) and sound reproduction is not as clean. But this sub is good for the price, especially if you dont want to spend much more than $1000 on your stereo system.

This is a great Sub-Woofer. It adds everything I had hoped it would to my home entertainment system that I had hoped it would and much more. Tremendous power in this product. Larger than I though it would be however, but its sound is the size of it. Highly reccomended!
