SOUNDS GOOD TO ME     On: 2001-10-12

I have owned one of these now for about a year now. I think it produces excellent sound. I have it hooked up to six Klipsch speakers and it has unbeatable sound!
Overload
by: Anonymous    On: 2001-02-26

I recentley purchased this reciever and do not like it. Every time Im watching a movie in surround the reciever overloads when the volume is at around 40. I cant enjoy the true surround sound at a good level.
Good regardless of hookup/setup problems     On: 2000-09-04

I believe its a good buy and performs well, but the owners manual could be more informative & give better explanations to assist the layman in the hookup & setup phase.

I am still trying to test and get the proper sound settings for my speakers (Polk RM6600 & PSW250 sub). Still confused about a couple of settings and cant find the answers in the manual.

The receiver definitely gets warm and needs good ventilation. This makes me wonder if I can leave it in my glass-front stereo cabinet.

The on-screen setup menu is great and allows for easier programming. But, if the owners manual was better written and provided more information, I would probably have given this a 5 Star rating...

If anyone knows of a site where I can find hookup drawings and better information on the various functions of this receiver, please let me know. The JVC website has limited information.

Great Equip     On: 2000-08-20

This is the 2nd Jvc reciever I have owned and I only bought this one so I could hook up even more things ie the digital side of things. I have had no problems with speakers in all modes ( be sure to set them up for size etc.) Neither have I had problems with vcrs etc even though it is a Sony. On screen programming is a useful extra. I have noticed that this reciever is a lot easier on my speakers even with the sound cranked. Ps Dont think much of Jvc vhs players tho

The JVC unit rocks!...It has some very nice features, and the sound quality is excellent. Whatever you deceide to do, I wish you the best, and hope you end up with a unit you really love.

Great bang for your buck!     On: 2000-07-12

Strenths: on screen display, digital/dts, price for features, many digital inputs, sounds good, looks cool, subwoofer output control

Weaknesses: no dimmer on huge bright display, no ac plugs in back, runs pretty warm(almost too hot, but i have it in an ET center cabinet without much air circulation, are others having this problem?) and i guess the remote is a little hard to use for some things. Oh, and for some reason no sound plays from the rear speakers when in modes like hall, dance club, live, etc. Just sound out of the front speakers, if anyone else differs, let me know whats up.

Review Summary: First off, I think the remote is very useful when using the on-screen display, other words it is not that great. Once you assign a vcr to the remote, is there a way to change it? I tried to replace it with my dvd player so I could use the remote to operate my toshiba 1200 dvd player. I cant seem to get it working, menu and play buttons work but i cant turn it off and on. This is my first digital receiver and I must say that the sound while watching dvds is about 10 times better than i expected. I am considering putting it ontop of my ET center because it runs pretty warm compared to my onkyo. So far I really like this receiver and think I will get my use out of it(hopefully). I guess I really shouldnt complain, because I only paid $78 for it shipped after many and many gift certificates. This seems like a very good product for the money, and I would recomend it to anyone considering it. Because basically, if you are considering it, then its probably becuase you cant afford much more and in this case you cant really get much more options for your money. But you could always trade options for better quality if you choose. I gave it a four becuase some things, as mentioned above, could be improved.

Good luck

JVC 8000 Receiver     On: 2000-06-10

One of the best receivers for its price. Compares better than Harman Kardon 500 in specs. Textlink technology makes this an incredible buy. Comes with a universal remote which makes life so easy. Great Sorround sound effect.
