What a great camera! Printing 5x7s and 8X10s on an Epson stylus has been awesome! The biggest challenge here has been finding the right photo paper. The 10 second sound bytes make for a fun slide show with either live or dubbed in sound. The auto settings take excellent photos with a steady hand (like with most cameras). The flash even takes excellent photos at night, as long as the subject is close enough. Its easy to hold and focuss nice with a slight depression followed by the snap shot. I use the sports mode a lot. The indoor sports shots always turn out great, but would recommend the 2X telephoto lense for awesome shots. I store my photos on a disc and print out maybe 10 out of 36 for display or photo albums. the USB port for iMac with the Image expert program is easy to use with the 3000Z. Winter photos seem to get more red eye, which can always be dealt with.
A camera to grow with

I have about a years worth of use out of my PC 3000Z. No problems and the pictures are fantastic! This camera will do much more than the mortal photo shooter. I print a lot of 8x10 pictures and you would NOT know the differance from mine and the local photo lab.
Epson Photo PC 3000Z Digital Camera     On: 2001-10-31

Having moved up from the 750Z, which I dragged around the world and aged to failure in a year (OK for the way I handle cameras), the 3000Z was a big step up in terms of resolution (thats all the editors want). The camera fits nicely in the hand, and the controls are better located than the 750Z. The programming screens are handy, and the branching decisions for setting variables is easier to follow than the picture icons of the 750Z. The flashcard slot is way better designed. And now you can add 49mm lens features like a UV filter.

Complaints? The carry bag is useless. The USB connecting port is awful .. a rubber flap. I really miss the sun-flap to view the video screen in bright sunlight. Without it, its impossible to use on brilliant days .. the screen becomes a mirror. Perhaps the biggest complaint is that Epson hasnt increased the start-up speed: the camera seems to take forever to set up for the first photo. Ive missed so many shots by having to wait that critical 4-5 seconds before the green LED flashes "ready". And when taking pics, the time to take a shot varies from fractions of a second to several seconds (when the subject has long gone).

Overall, still my favorite digital camera. Awesome color reproduction and density. Light, small, fits the hand. Just, please, make it faster.

Terrific camera, but.....     On: 2001-08-06

Im a life-long 35 mm camera buff, with a full spectrum of lenses, filters etc. Im thrilled with the 3000Z, especially the resolution. Ive printed hundreds of 8 x 10s on my HP1215, all with fantastic results. Ive ordered some as 11 x 14s from EZprints.com, and the resolution is outstanding, much to my surprise. Good news is, its small, so I take it with me when skiing, hiking etc., whereas I never bothered to lug my 35 around. Battery life is excellent. Buy a 128 mb flashcard, and youll never run out of "film." Only problem: its metering is only fair, so it often overexposes in bright sunlight. Get one anyway. Its a wonderful camera, and your friends will think youre a brilliant photographer.
I saw and knew I wanted it.     On: 2001-01-24

I have a new HP Photosmart 1218 printer and have been looking for a great digital camera to team up with it. At my sons birthday party, I noticed a guest quietly shooting pictures with the Epson 3000Z. A day later I got an E-Mail from him with the download for the pics he took at the party. They came across at 75 DPI and I juiced them to 600 DPI and printed them. At first I thought that the picture quality would be poor because it came over the internet and I juiced the DPI from 75, but the pictures were amazing! I couldnt even imagin them looking any better. If the pics were this great downloaded from a low level DPI, what would original shots look like at higher resoulution? You will absoultly freak out, thats how! Dont buy any other camera until you check this one out. Im glad I saw this camera being used because I may not even have considered it. What a mistake that would have been. Dont miss this one.........
Best Digital Camera Yet

Easy to use, easy to understand, great pictures. Get a 128MB viking memory card and you can shoot all day. Use the 46-49mm adapter (supplied) and buy an inexpensive 49mm UV filter and Clip on lens cap at a local photo store to protect your lens. Some of the reviews speak of the weight of the camera...Im not sure why theyre complaining. The camera is very light and easy to hold.
No better digital camera for prosumer     On: 2000-10-24

The box arrived and my expectations were matched by what I found. This camera and all the included accessories, documentation and software, is exceptional. The camera went way beyond any camera I had used before. It put the Nikon 990 to shame. Every imaginable aspect was covered when the Epson designers came up with this camera. Even the Nikon does not have an external flash hot shoe!!!! Every photo was a work of art. Sharp clear, crisp, in focus. The lighting with the built in flash was good at close range, with external....using my trusty Vivitar 283, was perfect at greater distances. The menus were a breeze to use. This camera will come up to all your expectations and more. I have taught photography for over 30 years. The last year or so, I have rarely picked up my 35mm equipment. Just like the LP record has disappeared to be surplanted by CDs, digital cameras like this Epson 3000z will resoundingly surplant the "wet photography" of the past with the digital images of today. I teamed the output from this camera with an Epson 1270 photo printer......you can not tell the difference. I have used the HyPic shots to 11x14, what results, takes your breath away. Happy snapping!
Lived up to all expectations.     On: 2000-10-20

I am absolutely thrilled with my purchase of the Epson 3000z, a camera that has lived up to all my expectations. I also purchased a Sandisk 128MB compact flash card to increase capacity, although the camera does come with a very generous 16MB card. The feature that sealed the deal for me is the hotshoe which allows for the mounting of a more powerful secondary flash, an absolute must if you do a lot of indoor shooting.

The camera is attractive, functional, and fits like a glove. It is incredibly simple to operate and the owner manual is clear and concise. I recommend the Epson 3000z unconditionally.

Epson photo PC 3000Z review     On: 2000-10-02

I looked at all the reviews and I bought the PC 3000Z. I enjoy everything about the camera. I have an epson photo pc 750Z, but I wanted a megapixel level camera to work with. From the features of the camera to the finished prints that come from the epson 750 inkjet printer, I really enjoy the control and quality from start to finish. This megapixel camera is great. For most applications it equals my 35mm camera. I heard it can eat batteries, but I have not had that experience with mine.

Love it, does fantastic pictures. I had considered others, but went on a friends recommendation from his Epson 850, glad I listened to him!

If youre looking for a high-quality, professional digital camera, take a real close look at the EPSON PhotoPC® 3000Z, I choose it. Because:

Forget transferring by serial cable, either use USB that comes with it or by stand alone USB compact flash reader. Add the extra storage ability of CompactFlash™ memory card over a SmartMedia card, and the built-in hot shoe for attaching an optional flash unit. The 3X optical zoom lens ranges from 35mm to 105mm gives you a little more than its competitor, also the cameras ability to except all different battery types. And the Epson 3000Z also comes with a battery re-charger, strap and a soft case that the competitor dose not. And best of all can be bought for $50/$100 dollars less. And then there is the ease of use, check it out for your self.

It doesn't add up!     On: 2000-06-24

I paid an exorbitant amount of money, i recieved an Epson Photo PC 3000Z. this camera had a very cool appearance. as i read the manual, I felt I bought a very good camera with a lot of special options. like a catalog, where there are thumbnails of your images. But, the images were not very clear. kind of fuzzy and dark. the quality was very poor. Although this camera was decent, it is not worth this high price. if the price went down it would be 4star. if the controls were easier to use and the pictures clearer, it would be 5star.
