I did buy this Nov 24, 2000 (I have the receipt) as a gift for my son. Almost immediately it began skipping, ignoring tracks, or not playing entire discs. I found that some low-end minidiscs (such as Hi-Space) will not play on these low-end players [see alt.audio.minidisc]. I did, however contact Casio and they quite cordially gave me all the information to send it in under warranty. Havent got it back yet, but well see how it acts upon its return. Just be aware that there are known problems with this and other low-end units [see xxx for complete write-ups and comparisons] On: 2001-08-03
This product was quite disappointing. The player skips often and the life of the batteries is short. One Duracell will play one 74 minute MD. The sound of the system is fine when working. The headphones are poor. by: Anonymous On: 2001-04-03
when i first opened up the box and listened to it, I thought it sounded great. I liked the remote thing and everything else. I then noticed that it wouldnt play half the tracks on my minidisks... they play just fine with my other player. So i returned this product. As far as minidisks go, Casio does not seem to be one of the major players and i believe i know why now. Maybe it was just mine but i returned it in a matter of an hour of recieving it... by: Anonymous On: 2001-03-06
I purchased one of these, looking for a player only to keep in my car. I found that it often wouldnt even read a disc, and skipped a lot. I was unable to nordic ski without it skipping on me. It also had a very very short battery life. I may have just received a lemon, but compared to my Sharp portable this one was horrible. Its worth an extra $30-40 for a better player. On: 2001-03-05
I was thinking of buying a second battery for my Aiwa MD recorder. It ran $60 or so, with shipping. I bought this unit for $99, and simply use rechargeables or an AA alkaline. Having a recorder and a player means the MD disks are a little more useful. Having a unit with a standard battery is easier for travel. Why lug the AC adapter or, worse, forget it?The unit has good sound. I play it through a set of speakers and a sub-woofer. The remote is not terribly impressive, but it works. Im not sure why you have to use the remote, but you do. This unit isnt that much bigger than a memory based MP3 player. You can carry a few disks around. If you have a toslink CD player, the MD disks are effortless to make, though this unit is NOT a recorder. But overall, MD seems like a nice format and when you make digital to digital transfers, all you have to do is program the tracks and start both machines. If you buy a new CD, you can record all the tracks and remove the ones you dont like. On: 2001-02-10
Shoppers beware! theres a reason this Minidisc costs $100, its great in quality, that goes without saying, Casio know how to build electronics, but it costs so little since it CANNOT RECORD, CANNOT RECORD, CANNOT RECORD!!! and has very few functions, only two line-ins, one for the remote (great LCD with Backlight remote) and the other for the AC Adaptor. Only two more buttons on the Minidisc itself: The Hold button and the Eject. The remote itself has very few options, you cant even FF, only pass entire tracks...All-in-all, a great quality device, but no technology in it, buy it if youre short on money, not if you think Casio is trying to become the biggest electronics company by reducing prices... by: Anonymous On: 2001-01-11
If you never got a minidisc thing before dont get this! it is just a PLAYER, NOT a recorder. get a player/recorder. On: 2001-01-02
dont let the price of this thing fool you. just because it is not expensive does not mean it sucks. i bought this mini disk player for 100 bucks and it is great. by: Anonymous On: 2000-12-18
i dont own this particular brand or model of mini disc player but i have had a competitors model for 10 months. my only advice: BUY AN EXTENDED WARANTY- the best one you can get. These are finicky gadgets that are prone to break. mine (a sharp MD15) worked great right up to the time it quit, and was then replaced under an extended waranty (thank goodness). i would not buy one unless u can get an extended waranty. Note: i have never before bought of had to use an extended waranty on anything else, but these gadgets are more delicate. they are a LOT of fun. by: Anonymous On: 2000-12-15
I bought this product last Christmas and it hasnt broken or skipped since then. This MD player has all the essentials plus more. It comes with headphones, a recharable battery, and the recharger. Dont think this product is poor quality because it is cheaply priced, its a great buy for only .... by: Anonymous On: 2000-11-18
Before purchasing this product I wanted to read the reviews from other customers. One that concerned me was one that the product fell apart and they were not able to have it repaired. I contacted Casio and found out that it is highly unusal that the problem would not have been handled. They also mentioned that the product was not available last Christmas and had only been released in the US market in May of 2000. I think the Casio Minidisc player is the best for the money I have seen. I have also had several other Casio products and have never been disapointed in the performance for the price. This has also held true so far with the Minidisc player. On: 2000-11-10
the reason for my choise of this player in the begining is it was a present this player is not the most easy to use in the world because the only way to control it is with the remote. the cord is very long and can tend to be more of a problem than it is worth. i have also found that the batteie life is absolutly no good. i belive even if you are a beginer minidisc user most people need longer than 5 hour playback time On: 2000-11-05
I bought 2 for my kids last Christmas and both units have had screws fall out so that the doors no longer operate. I sent them back to Casio for repair and they did not repair them, claiming the problem was neglect. I cannot find the tiny screws anywhere and therefore they are useless. On: 2000-10-27
This product I have had for one year. I have never had any problems with it, it has never skipped slurred or malfunctioned. I would recomend this product to anyone with not a lot to spend but wants a quality product On: 2000-10-26
The Casio XG-3B Portable Minidisc may be cheap in price but is a great product. It is small and light weight and great for taking it with you when you go out for a run or to exercise because it does not skip. You may be thinking its not worth buying because its so cheap and is not a big named price product but your wrong. I would fecondmend this to any one who is interested in buying a minidisk but does not want to spend all that money to.
