I bought this mp3 player and when i put an mp3 cd in, it took a very long time to play the song, and sometimes it wouldnt even play it at all. I was ver dissapointed, especially since it cost me $70.And then after about 8 or 9 months, it just wouldnt turn on. 2 stars for car kit and good "normal cd" player (for 8 months)
LOVE IT     On: 2003-07-31

I had purchased 2 Philips CD players a little less than 2 years ago and for the wear and tear that my boyfriend and I put them through they lasted & we really got our moneys worth. I didnt have any kind of worries in buying another Philips product, however I was leery of the MP3 player part. Prior to my last CD player purchases I had bought an MP3/CD player combo that just was awful built by memorex. The sound quality was poor, and the CD player was laggy to get it going when you first switched the mode from MP3 to CD, so I wasnt sure I was going to like this model, but seeing as though it was from Philips and I had good luck with them in the past I figured Id give it a try. I purchased the product and immediately was pleased with it because it had many of the same features that my elder Philips CD player had such as the anti-skip, the belt clip, the buttons were all in about the same place, bass & double bass modes etc. As time has gone on I have had my player for a little over a month and Im very pleased. I have told all of my friends and family about this marvelously pleasing purchase and I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for this type of audio entertainment.
The EXP503 is a poor choice!!     On: 2003-04-14

Pros: Lots of accessories, backlit lcd, reads ID3 tags, great ESP.

Cons: Backlit lcd, no line-out, hardware glitches, lack of quality control.

Summary: I have owned this unit roughly a month. It has wayyy too many things wrong with it for me to justify the price. One, it has no line-out, which is unforgivable, and the headphone jack is on the front which makes it impossible to mount in a car and make it look good. It also gets really hot underneath when the dc power supply is used. The LCD is backlit blue and looks good, but is really hard to read off-axis. The backlight turns on for about 4 seconds when you push buttons, and then turns off. I think they should have a backlight switch so you dont waste battery this way. The backlight quit working a week ago, so its a moot point anyway. The buttons also beep when you push them, something I find annoying, and the unit beeps when you pause it, something I also find aggravating. The point of pausing it is to NOT hear anything. The units headphone jack is also incapable of driving higher-impedance headphones like my Sennheiser 535s, so you are forced to use more efficient ones (like the crappy supplied earbuds). One of the most aggravating things wrong with it is this glitch in the ID3 reader that takes the last part of whatever the artists name was before the artist name that you are viewing, and tacks it onto the one you are viewing; if the first artist you viewed was Matchbox 20, and the current one is REM, the ID3 readout will say REMchbox 20. The unit also has a display switch, but it doesnt remember your choice, thus, it displays this unneccessarily long filename whenever you switch tracks. The ergonomics are poor, and are hard to use if you use the belt clip. The ESP also turns on whenever you turn the player on, which wastes batteries if you forget to turn it off. The volume control is also recessed, which makes it hard to adjust, and the thing blows through batteries like nobodys business. You can expect maybe 6 hours on standard alkalines.

So whats good about this player? Not much. The backlight looks cool (when it works), and the player has good skip protection even when the ESP is off. It does read ID3 tags, and the belt clip is cool. Since I am currently on my second player, which also does not function properly, there is no way I can recommend this unit. I actually liked the player when it worked, but it has too many unforgivable flaws to be sold as a production unit.

Sweet     On: 2002-05-29

Terrific unit. I had the old Expanium and it stopped working form me. Phillips sent this one as a replacement and I would recommend it to anyone. It finds songs quickly, the display is top-notch, and there is no dispute over sound quality.
Great for OTR     On: 2002-05-15

I bought this so I could listen to Old Time Radio shows on MP3 CDs. Thus far it has been able to recognize and play every different CD I tried. The sound quality is excellent.

I only rated it 4 stars because there are several annoying shortcomings that quickly become apparent. Probably the biggest is the peculiar way the "resume" feature works. The problem is this feature only works when the power is on. So even though I have the car kit which lets the player run off the cars power, I still need to remember to stop play and then turn the unit off. Were I to simply turn the car off, the resume feature wouldnt work.

The other big annoyance is with fast forward or reverse. They are simply too slow to be of much use.

MP3's Freeze up??????????     On: 2002-04-24

Considering the massive amounts of music i download daily, this unit has become something i cant live without. This is actually the second one Ive had after sending the last one back because while playing longer sets it always freezes up about 26-27 minutes into the set. I just got this one a couple of days ago and guess what????? The player is freezing up once again. Ive tried different media and Im always playing mp3s with a high bit rate. Anyone else having similar problems or have suggestions to this annoying problem.
Great MP3 player     On: 2002-04-06

Im happy user of EXP503 since three days, and I consider it as a very good player. Of course there are some areas, where Philips could do better, but "overall performance" is very well:). The major complain: earphones which come with player are very very low quality as for such good player! Believe me, using them you wouldnt hear any difference between very high quality sound produced by Expanium and something like $[money]personal cassette player. Trebles are awful! So prepare next 30$ for good headphones or stay with unsatisfactory sound... Many people complained about bad ID3 tag implementation. Im not sure about it, maybe my unit is using newer firmware or what, but everything seems to be okay [there are some exceptions - eg sometimes filename is cut to about 40 chars, but there are no tricky numbers after song title]. Cassete car adapter - good idea, works well. Its useful during long car trips. DBB - PERFECT!!! IMHO sound produced by SBLIVE is worse. I liked it very much:). ESP - works very well. Oh, btw, I have turned off ESP to check units behaviour, and I was very surprised to hear good sound, without any skpis during quite fast walk. It looks like, turning esp off doesnt turn off all of the buffers which player uses to stop skips. Probably it still has something like 10s anti-skip protection - good idea too. Display: looks nice, especially at night, but why does it look like mirror? In some situations it makes LCD quite unreadable. Philips should work on it, cause it seems to be easy to eliminate. Battery life - very good! My last player was TDK MOJO, where battery life is serious problem (during normal use, set of 2xPanasonic rechargable batteries 1500mAh gave 3~5h of music). Philips works three-four times longer :). Size & weight of the unit is also acceptable. I give EXP 503/17 4,5 of 5 stars. Im glad I bought it, its worth its price.
The Best!!     On: 2002-04-03

Im from Turkey and I always wanted a discman which plays both mp3 and audio cds. Finally I saw this amazing machine in amazon.com,wanted a friend of mine in US to order for me.He was able to bring it the previous week and delievered it to me yesterday. Its really superior!Quite bigger than the latest discmans,Expanium is very light and has an excellent quality of sound and also its cheap. If you are looking for something like this dont hesitate to buy it!
Ah, if only...     On: 2002-03-30

Before I complain about this units shortcomings, Id like to point out what it has going for it. The Expanium 503 is like Marlon Brando -- "I coulda been a contender, I coulda been somebody!"

This unit has GREAT sound quality. Rich, warm sound. The build quality of the unit is great, compared with others like the Rio Volt -- very sturdy. It supports AAC (Advanced Audio Coding) files, of which I made quite a few with the Psytel AAC encoder. AAC sounds FAR better than MP3, even at low (128-160) bitrates. I was really shocked and surprised. Its also a rather attractive unit -- nice deep burgandy color. Folder and file navigation is also very easy and intuitive.

Now... whats wrong with it?

Resume doesnt really work. With MP3 CDs, it only works if you turn it back on within about a minute of turning it off. And it does work -- it goes back to the precise spot in the song you left off at. However, if you turn it back on longer than a minute after, it starts back at the first song on the first album. With AAC-CDs, it goes back to the same song, but at 0:00. And after a minute it goes back to the first song on the first album. This is a fatal flaw, as far as Im concerned.

Between-track gaps: with AAC CDs, its actually quite minimal, like 1 second or 2 between songs. With MP3 CDs, especially if you have 200+ songs, it can be as long as 5-8 seconds. Completely unacceptable, as far as Im concerned.

Seek times: with fewer than, say, 100 files, its quite quick. After that, though, it can take forever to find certain folders.

Filename display is very buggy. I rarely use ID3 tags on MP3s I make myself, so Ive not seen the "overwrite" error that a lot of people talk about in their reviews. But the filename display is buggy as well -- lets say a track is called "01 - Five years.mp3": the Expanium will display "01 - Five years 3456789012345678901234567890". Even if you have, like the manual suggests, short filenames (even DOS 8.3 names!), it will still display the numbers. Not a big deal, but it does detract from the aesthetic appeal of the unit.

In short: I think this unit has too many shortcomings to be recommended. I give it 3 stars simply because of its potential (AAC support) and the superb sound quality. Sonic Blue/iRiver: are you listening???

Very Good MP-3 but NOT the best for Audiobooks!     On: 2002-02-26

I bought this MP-3 player to use to listen to audiobooks that
are being transferred from tapes or CDs to this format. This
allows the publisher to put up to 14 tapes on one MP-3 recording.
When you use this player to listen to these audiobooks, there is
a slight hesitation between tracks even if it is in the middle of
a sentence. By a slight hesitation, I mean up to 3 seconds. Some
of these recording have as many as 70-80 tracks! So this can be
irritating! Obviously music isnt a problem as each song completes a track!
'Nother one bit the dust
by: Anonymous    On: 2002-02-19

Below is what I wrote BEFORE my Expanium finally died after very light use over 16 months or so. With CD-Rs or regular CDs, it would play for five seconds and then the power would go off. I tried it with both fresh batteries and the adapter, but no go. Fortunately, it was on extended warranty, so I got all my $ back, and ordered a Panasonic SL-CT700 (with an extended warranty, of course). Ill give it a review when it arrives...

I turned to the Expanium 503 after having a Rio Volt 250 give out on me after a month of use. Im happy with the Expanium, whose sound is better, and whose controls are much simpler and logical (though not having as many bells & whistles as the Rio Volt), but there are some problems. As youve read earlier, the MP3 labels get garbled in the readout window, but this is something I can live with. Whats more serious is its erratic inability to recognize certain MP3 discs. The discs Ive burned myself are sometimes played by the unit, but at other times it will grind away and the readout window will say only "DATA" and refuse to play. If this happened all the time, Id blame my method of burning, but sometimes it fails and sometimes it plays the same disc perfectly, so I blame the unit. I intend to return it for another of the same model under my replacement contract. After my experience with this unit and with the Rio Volt, I strongly advise you to spring for the extra bucks and get an available maintenance/replacement contract with your retailer. Once bitten, twice shy. Twice bitten, very very cautious. This is relatively new technology, and there are going to be a lot of failures before some manufacturer finally gets it right. Good luck.

What artist, What title
by: Anonymous    On: 2002-02-08

Received for xmas. Burned 2 MP3 CDs (128K, CBR, ID3 V1&2) with Cd Creator files looked perfect w/ UltraTagger & MusicMatch. When played the artist & title may be missing of have extra characters in each. Philips recommended that I use Nero 5.5. I deleted CD Creator and CD Direct and burned the next three CDs with Nero once again every thing looked perfect on the computer and 2/3 of the time the Philips 503 display of artist+title was screwed up. Philips would not respond to web page questions nor to 3 e-mail I sent explaining the results of the Nero test which they suggested. Calling 4 different 1-800 numbers only yielded that the audio division is incapable of diagnosing these type of problems since the responsibility was recently transfered from the PC Division. I traded up to a RioVolt 250 and the display works perfect (PS - The Rio product is feature rich compared to the EXP 503) Ill report any Rio problem as I find them (NONE YET)
is this true?     On: 2002-01-29

IS THIS TRUE??????????????????? about what that one guy said?

"ADDENDUM: ID3 tags seem to work on my unit now, but with an amusing bug. The tail end of the tag does not fill the remainder with spaces; the old characters stay. So right now I am listening to General Publics song "Tenderness", but the artist tag is "GENERAL PUBLIC ND", and the title is "TENDERNESS 90, GO OU" (the last song played was "C30, C60, C90, GO", and there must have been an earlier song with "OU" at the end.) Kajagoogoos "Too Shy" is now "KAJAGOOGOO LIC ND" and "TOO SHY SS 90, GO OU"."

is that true?     On: 2002-01-26

.
Is that true about the track name not erasing the previous characters at the end of it? like that guy said in the other review???
Good device     On: 2002-01-19

Sound is very good, noticeably better than my RioVolt. Reasonable feature set, my favorite is the album/folder navigation. Havent used the batteries so no idea whether the 20 hour number is accurate.
Very good unit     On: 2002-01-11

I have been using my EXP503 for a couple of weeks, and am very pleased with it. My observations:

* The unit is thin (a little over an inch) and light, unlike most of the MP3 units Ive looked at.

* I have had no problem with the "Resume" function on MP3 files; however, if the unit "goes dark" the "Shuffle" indicator doesnt come back when you start it up again. It seems to lose the Shuffle setting. If you hit "Start" and then immediately press the Mode button to choose Shuffle, the unit changes the mode but then does not start. Just press "Start" again, and youll resume where you left off.

* The unit does recognize ID3 tags, but only some kinds. The files I got from mp3... work with the "Artist+Title" function, but the files I have converted with MusicMatch do not. Maybe it recognizes ID3v1, but not ID3v2. I havent been able to get to Philips web site ...to find out.

* I havent found software to create AAC files yet. MusicMatch is supposed to have a deal to add it, but I cant find anything on it on their web site.

* The "fast-forward-within-track" also works on MP3s, but it doesnt seem to speed up; it runs at about 6x normal speed.

ADDENDUM: ID3 tags seem to work on my unit now, but with an amusing bug. The tail end of the tag does not fill the remainder with spaces; the old characters stay. So right now I am listening to General Publics song "Tenderness", but the artist tag is "GENERAL PUBLIC ND", and the title is "TENDERNESS 90, GO OU" (the last song played was "C30, C60, C90, GO", and there must have been an earlier song with "OU" at the end.) Kajagoogoos "Too Shy" is now "KAJAGOOGOO LIC ND" and "TOO SHY SS 90, GO OU". Not a big deal to me, though.

Excellent     On: 2002-01-10

When I decided I would buy an MP3-Capable CD player, I set out to compare which one was the best. Although I had originally decided that I would buy the Rio Volt sp250, finding this item in Europe proved to be too difficult, and I would have to order it specially. Then I saw the Expandium 500 Series. I reviewed this item, and it seemed good enough for me, so I purchased it.

I already had an MP3 cd with the albums in their respective directories, so I was afraid that the player would not be capable of handling this, but to my surprise, and joy, it recognized it, and it makes each directory an "album", making it easy to browse the 200+ songs I had on my CD.

Additionally, I have not yet been able to get the player to skip. Although the earphones that came with it are not to my liking, that is easily changed. With the handy midpoint controller on the headphones, you can easily chose ones to your own preference without having to worry about a compatible remote on them.

Although I prefer the look of the Rio Volt, it was not worth the extra wait.

My highest recommendations for this player.

No remote included and headphone socket is too loose
by: Anonymous    On: 2002-01-08

The Philips EXP50317 eXpanium Personal CD Player has great sound, way superior to the crappy, cheap sound of RIO Volt series. Thats what I expected from Philips, the inventor of the CD format. The navigation through MP3 CDs is quite good but doesnt reach the perfect interface of the RIO Volt series.

Still I found it unsatisfactory for 2 main reasons that made me reutrn it:
- The Amazon.com description reads: "Includes AC adapter and 3-key remote control" but no remote is included. Double checking in the manual revealed that the remote is an optional item.
- The headphone socket is very loose so that the headphone plug slips out way too easily.

You have got to buy this now!
by: Anonymous    On: 2001-12-30

I was looking for a CD-MP3 player to sugest some family members buy fo me. I was pretty much set on asking my parents to get me the Rio Volt or the Soul player but I came across this one in a local store; I had to pinch myself to see if I was dreaming. Im a big Phillips fan an they make great stuff, this is no exeption! (Im not sure if this is the exact same model of mine ,I have a eXp501 so Im sorry if this isnt acurate but it cnt be far off) The ID3 tag suport is a must have for CD-MP3 players and this has a crystal clear screen, with the awsome feature of a backlight. It charges its own batteries (perfect if you listen to your CDs everyday and run through bateries) The remote is small and has a clip that is yet to slip on me, If you are looking for a CD player for a tech savy person this is the perfect one. If you are looking for an even moderatly tech savy person buy it. Its only drawback is the manuals section on burrning MP3 CDs may be unclear to some people.
Perfect player! Impressed!     On: 2001-12-22

The sound is great and perfect! I play mp3s at home by hooking up to my Bose accoustic, my car and when I take a walk!.
I wish it had a remote and easy search facility!
I recommend to those who expect perfection in the sound quality.
All the way from Ireland     On: 2001-12-20

I bought this player 2 weeks ago, I had spent alot of time looking a practically every player on the market and this one appealed the most. I couldnt get it in Ireland or Europe for that matter. So I ordered it from amazon, and got my friend to post it to Ireland.

Its features are excellent.... the first thing I did was download an MP3 ripper and an ID3 Tag creator. All freeware. I ripped the entire collection of U2 Albums and put them onto 1 CD. When you run the player it tells you each album name and when the track is playing it displays the artist and track name on the screen, if they fit otherwise the track name.
The quality is average maybe slightly above, but I have heard better.

They ship Philips headphones with it.... they are [bad] buy new ones.

The only negatives:- headphones [bad], screen is hard to read in poor light (excellent in the dark and bright light) and the resume function doesnt work on Mp3 discs only CDs.

Buy it its worth it!

Very nice, but a couple small issues     On: 2001-12-18

This device is quite nice! Nice large LCD, VBR and folder support, full-disc shuffle, etc. The only problems I noticed are:
- No true Line-out. (only one jack for headphone)
- 2 second gap between tracks. This can make live recordings sound a little off.
- Compared to my Kenwood DPC-885 (which is bulletproof), it seems a bit fragile.
But overall, I give it a thumbs up! Get one today!
Pretty good Unit     On: 2001-12-12

UPDATE 8/5/02
Ive been using this unit daily for 1-10 hours a day for the last 9 months without any probles whatsoever. It has worked flawlessly. The "resume" function is a little annoying, but not enough to make me want to get rid of it. Theres nothing like having 180 songs on cd at your fingertip. :-) I got rid of my Honda in January and now have a Maxima with the Bose system and the combination of the Philips and the Bose is absolutely amazing!!!!!

Since I commute about 2 1/2 hours a day an MP3 player really appeals to me. I bought the 503 after returning 2 Rio Volts in one month. This unit is not as good looking (purely subjective) but works much better, is quieter and louder. To clarify, I use mine in the car and it doesnt whine and "thump" like the Rio. However, the cassette adapter that comes with the unit doesnt make good contact with my stock Honda cassette player heads so I use the one that came with my old Aiwa CD player. MAN! What a difference in VOLUME! The head on the Philips needs to stick out further (like the Aiwa). Its pretty easy to use, has a cool metallic black/purple finish and the best ear-buds Ive ever used. Its easy to navigate and has a fast-forward (not Rio). The display is difficult to read in sunlight, impossible to read with polarized shades on, but is pretty cool at night. So, I plan on using this unit happily, until I can afford a Remote Solutions PJB-100 (20 Gig hard-drive). The only reason I didnt give it 5 stars is the cassette adapter.

Awesome Player     On: 2001-12-08

This MP-3/CD player is great. The sound quality is tremendous and includes many different functions for MP-3 playback like shuffle (within an album), shuffle all(the whole cd), shuffle repeat and shuffle all repeat. The seak time for song to song in shuffle mode is about 1 second or less. To me very reasonable. The color of the lid is very dark almost black metalic color. It actually looks better than the picture shows.
I am very pleased with this player and would reccomend it to anyone looking for a quality portable MP-3/CD player.
Wow! The one I have been waiting for...     On: 2001-12-06

When I first heard about MP3 CD players a year or two ago I knew that I had to have one. But as with all technology sometimes its best to sit it out and wait for it to mature. Thank you Philips for the first grown-up player!

This thing is great. I am quite familiar with MP3 and I try to keep up on the latest technology and I must say that the one most important feature of this player - sound quality - is extremely excellent. All of my MP3s are "archive quality" (IMHO!) and the Philips does an admirable job of reproducing them. Most of my MP3s are variable bit rate, many with BRs ranging from 12 - 320, and I have had no problems there. Needless to say this was a big selling point for me. The ID3 feature (which recognizes artist & song info) is also excellent, as well as the interface, backlight, speed of song title recognition and startup, and included accessories. It is also very compact and light. About the only complaint I can come up with is that it does not include a case... personally Id like to see a small case befitting this beautiful little player. Needless to say most of the CD player cases out there are bulky and ugly, so I had to create one out of a CD disc case. Ah well, one can dream...

As far as the color, as others have mentioned it is not black, but more of a purple color. However, I like it! Black is so... black. The purple is something of a pleasant change and has a nice iridescence to it.

A Must buy     On: 2001-12-01

There are only a couple of high end cd/mp3 players out there now--Exp 503 and Sony DCJ01. The sound quality of both players are really good (I got the DCJ01 from my friend to test it). These 2 players excel (and almost identical) in features. With the exception of the lack of car kit and an extra carrying case for the DCJ01, both players antishock are very well done. I once drop my EXp 503 onto concrete and its still fine (except for a few scratches). Jogproof is comparable with G-protection (they are very similar).
I choose this over sony is because Philips has a history in making mp3 players already, while DCJ01 is only the first one out for sony.
BAD STUFF: the in-ear phone is not too good in my opinion, as well as the dark purple color too.
Caution: the Exp takes up quite a lot of battery, so I suggest getting the rechargeable ones, they would proof to be economical very soon.
Overall, I think this is the best cd/mp3 player out there. I would also advise against getting the Riovolt SP 200 because I dont think more features(such as remote and rechargeable capability ) can counterbalance the poor sound quality it offers. Afterall, we buy these stuff to enjoy the sound and music, right?
THIS PRODUCT IS HOT!!! few flaws...     On: 2001-11-14

It is an awesome player. the cd player is just awesome. the sound quality is great and the lcd display is huge! the ID3 tag support is not the best, but it is good i have to say. next thing is that the navigation is well put. the cd player is good overall, best.

flaws are the following:
the buttons, like the other user noted.
the color IS NOT BLACK! its like a dark maroon, and it somehow contrasts when in light.
when searching for songs, you better remember the numbers!
when searching and finding the song, be ready to wait for about a second to load.

everything else is great.

Excellent MP3-CD player     On: 2001-11-10

This is a well-designed, sturdy and versatile player. It can play MP3s encoded up to 320 KBPS (which was a major buying factor for me)
It has a relatively large, legible LCD display with good contrast and backlight. The headphones are OK if you like the in-the-ear design.

Display has three modes: album, filename and ID3 tag.
If you burn a CD with folders for individual artists (or styles) the album mode will display the name of the selected folder on your MP3 CD.
The filename mode will scroll the individual filenames but only the first 40 characters. I really like this feature since a lot of my MP3s do not have decent ID3 tag info and I was dreading the prospect of having to go in and update them all.
The ID3 tag mode is just what it implies but I found myself not using this feature at all since I can just look at the filenames instead.

I was impressed with the EXP50317s speed in reading and searching MP3 CDs; a friend of mine has an older Philips model which is a lot slower than this one. Also, I havent experienced any skips or hangups during play or while changing tracks.

Sound quality of the player is very good for both CDs and MP3s and the car accesories make it a very nice addition to your cars stereo system. Plus now I can finally listen to all my MP3 while Im driving.
The only thing I dont like about the EXP50317 is the fact that the control buttons have a chrome finish which makes fingerprints and smears on the buttons very visible. A matte finish for the buttons wouldve been better.
Overall, I think this is an exceptional player and, although it wasnt cheap, Im glad I spent the extra money. It was worth it.

MP3's stopped working :(     On: 2001-11-03

I got the EXP503 to replace my bothersome MPTrip player. So far, I couldnt be happier. A display that actually tells you the artist who plays that song #149 that you didnt know you liked so much. A resume feature that will pick up where you left off yesterday (caveat: batteries or power source must be connected for resume to function). Plenty of buffer storage. I ran 3 miles with it this morning with nary a skip.

Bonus points for some rocking in-ear headphones that have some new BASS technology. Batteries are NOT included contrary to product description. Im using NiMH rechargeables. The included car kit works as expected.

Thanks Philips!!

Update in Feb. 2002: The MP3s stopped working. Music cds still play but the mp3 discs just sit there. So Ive returned the player to Phillips for warranty replacement. Currently awaiting the new one. Rating dropped to 4 stars.

Got the replacement model from Philips after a couple of weeks. So far so good.

Philips Does it again     On: 2001-10-21

Ive always liked the idea of an Mp3-CD player. I first bought one around 3 years ago back when the only modles were cheap no name brands, they played alright and were very durable but that was all to them. Then the market opened up and I bought a new Rio Volt... which broke the first two weeks I owned it. This verion made by Philips is much better then anything Ive seen. The controls are easy to deal with, centering around a very nicely placed back-lit window that tells you the name of the tag of the song your playing (The real difference between this and the 300 modles). Another great feacher is the ablity to skip between folders in the CD, something I havnt seen in any player before the Expaniums. Before I played with Mp3-CD players I bought Philips CD diskmans and now that they have made a player that is up to snuff I finally dont have to resort to cheap noname player (or even worse, there more expensive cousins **Dont buy a Rio Volt**). This is a true Mp3-CD player, the difference is comparable to the first clunky diskmans for the early 90s to the sleek ones we have now. Thank you Philips.
