It plays mac CD's!!!     On: 2001-08-15

Lo and behold an MP3 cd player from Casio. I figured like all the other MP3/CD players this thing would skip like crazy and eat batteries in an hour but boy was I surprised! Not only does it have a great battery life but it plays Mac formatted MP3 discs. By total accident I loaded in a cd that I had made of some music I was taking to work and began listening then I realized it wasnt an ISO 9660 formatted disc. Great sound, easy navigation, sturdy hardware, with the addition of a remote or larger LCD for ID3 navigation this would easily deserve that 5th star....
Cool design with quality MP3 sound

Battery dies; Skips all the time
by: Anonymous    On: 2001-07-24

I bought this with lot of enthusiasm and found that this fellow cleans the battery dry in about 1 hrs play time. Also resets and retries on my MP3 CDs very frequently with slightest of shakes. Overall does not deliver on what it is supposed. DO NOT BUY.
After trying three, this one will have to do.     On: 2001-07-06

Like I mentioned above, I went through three different off brand mp3 cd players before settling on this one. Here are my pros and cons:

Pros: -does not skip (unlike the first three player I bought) -good interface, not over designed. -sounds great (192 kbps mp3s play fine)

Cons: -does not have recharging capabilities -no on screen id3 tag support

Thats pretty much it. It seems well built and reliable to me, but I guess only time will tell.

a near miss IMHO     On: 2001-06-09

I really want to like this product, and think theres a lot to like, especially at this price. But...

I have a hard-riding car and have had the player cut out on me repeatedly. And I mean soft reboot, not skip. Which is annoying, but even worse because random play is not truly random! I.E. random play is the same pseudorandom sequence every time! This is miserable for mp3-cdrs.

not good for the price     On: 2001-05-24

This MP3-CD player is great for playing regular cds but I would not recomend this for mp3, If is not the correct format it plays it too fast or too slow
Not for beginners     On: 2001-04-30

very hard to install and very bad instruction list
Poor "search" feature, "random" play     On: 2001-04-22

On the list of features, it says that you can search by song title. This is not true. The player does not even display the title. Instead you can skip to the first song starting with any given letter. (With a lot of button pressing.) The "random" feature also has a *major* bug. It always picks the same songs! Instead of being random, it always jumps to the same songs in the same order when you use the same CD. They should call it "alternate order" because thats all it is.

Finally, the output is not loud enough, the headphone cord is too short, the player is a bit too wide, and youd better have a lot of batteries handy. I am disappointed by this product and will be returning it.

Great product for the money spent     On: 2001-04-12

I didnt purchase this product from Amazon. I found it at "$..." Electronics for "$..." less, not on sale. I had three to choose from of their type (nothing like Nomad or something like that). I also looked at J-Lin and DLink and felt that the look of this was was better than DLink but not as technical as the J-Lin one. However, I read the specs and was sold on the find feature then put off by the fact that you can only search by the first letter and not by the id3 tags as it actually stated. However that is not a reason for me to return the player because personally I am a student and itll be in a bag most of the time. So in my personal opinion for the money spent it is a good buy. The DLink was "$..." less but it only advertised the Shock Memory feature, it didnt actually say how long it would be. Im quite pleased with this product and I will not be returning it unless it explodes in my face sometime soon!
Technology not perfected... sent it back!     On: 2001-03-14

I think companies are jumping the gun on the release unperfected technologies. This device does not have an alphanumeric display and its claim to reading ID3 song tags is a far cry from what you might expect. You can only search via a single letter... therefore playing all song titles beginning with the selected letter. The display is no more informative than my Sony Discman of 3 years. It displays the number of directories and total number of tracks for all directories. For example: I created a CD with 10 directories, 132 tracks total. It displays 132 - d10. So you basically end up with a conventional CD containing tracks 1-132. To advance to track 67, you must hold the advance key down forever. The number advancement does not speed up the longer it is held... thats the oldest trick in the book... what were they thinking??? Instead of selecting a track number, you can select a directory number which jumps to the track number that begins that directory. Lets say you select directory 5, it may jump to track 54. Without a printed song list in front of you that is resorted based upon this device sort criteria, you have no way of finding song. Lets talk about creating this list... I did a music library export from MusicMatch and imported into Access. Here is the sort criteria: First it sorts by the directory name and then by song title. Once sorted, I numbered all of the tracks straight thru 1 to 132... Designed a report and formatted to print as a CD insert. Is this getting ridiculous??? Yes!!! Why not just spend a couple of bucks and include an LCD that can display the song titles. The line out and headphones output levels were weak and some noise could be heard. Im sure within the next year every CD player out there, portable or home, will have the capability of reading MP3s. Its just to soon to purchase one! I sent this unit back and will wait it out. Dont try to find this product on the casio site because its not the same company. Its some weird casiocommunications site out of California using Casios good name to fool people. On a final note... It does not support VBR, CD-RW, or bit rates other than 128. Skip protection was no better than my Sony Discman with 3 sec. Are you disappointed or what? I dont know who planted the first review of this product which raves about it??? Unfortunately, this was the only review I had to read.
sent it back!     On: 2001-03-14

...
Good but It's not perfect.     On: 2001-03-13

It works well, but when the music level is low you can hear a little bit of noise (and when you push the buttons too). Another fail is that you cant see the songs names and directories names, you can search songs or directories just by an index. All the other features work well.
Only plays 128 bit rate
by: Anonymous    On: 2001-03-10

I was disappointed to realize that the player can only play bit rates of 128. Many of the mp3 files that I have are audio books that I like to listen to while I travel, and they are compressed to lower bit rates. The sound quality was good, but its usefulness is very limited. Also, the display is difficult to see. I returned mine the next day and ordered a player capable of handling multiple bit rates.
Not a good player if you're on the move
by: Anonymous    On: 2001-03-10

I liked how this player worked sitting on a desktop or in my car. But when I took it with me on a walk or bike ride, it skipped constantly. I had it in a nice padded carrying case on my bike ride and it still skipped terribly. Sent it back and my next try will the Aiwa XP-mp3c
Looks Great ..... Plays Good..... Dies Quick
by: Anonymous    On: 2001-03-10

I was excited to see that there were now CD/MP3 players in the market and for purchase. The Casio looked like the one for me... so I bought it.... but I shouldnt have. Listening to this player showed me how great a technology we had out now, but it also showed me how far away we are to perfecting it.

Playing CDs: It plays CDs with a breeze. Absolutely no skipping with the shock on and I must say I was very impressed, but.. then I found out some problems. When I played an mp3 with a bitrate lower than 128 it played the song at a very fast pace as if you were listening to the chipmunks.... that I didnt like ... also loading the songs took about 5 seconds each and that killed the battery.

Features: It has some decent features. There isnt much more added to the player due to its mp3 capabilities except for a search button which is helpful... but could have been better. You can search for songs by the letter they start with or by what folder you burned the mp3s in. Even though it searches by letter, it does not show the name of the song, simply the number. Switching tracks is a pain too. Even with the search button I found myself switching from song 1 to song 78 by manually pressing the skip button. If you want blisters, get this one. I think all players should come with a 9 button remote so you can type in the number instead of searching or simply skipping to the track.

Power: OUCH!!! This really hurt me. This player has to have the lowest battery power. If you read the manual it says the player has 6 hours of battery life with the shock protection OFF! Well I had the shock protection ON and after a short hour and a half the batteries were dead. Thats not what I wanted. I then decided to turn shock off, but to my surprise I found out that the button didnt work and shock was going to stay on. I simply gave up on the player when that happend. I thought maybe I used bad batteries, but I didnt, I took them out of their package and then the button wasnt working. Overall, this product isnt the worse, but it sure isnt the best .... with poor battery life this player is not worth my time. If its going to die in less than two hours Id be sitting with the AC adaptar connected to it, and that would defeat the purpose of a PORTABLE CD Player. Im returning this item and I decided to buy the RIO VOLT. Please let this be my savior.
