I bought my husband this DVD player when he was deployed 2 years ago. It has survived 6 months tossed around Fort Dix, NJ, months of daily train commutes and over a year in the deserts of Iraq. Now, if thats not durability, I dont know what is!

My husband bought me this player less than 3 years ago for mothers day. The screen died while my son was watching it. I could get sound and a faint picture but mostly black screen. It was still under warranty when this happened. I dealt with Audiovox customer service regularly for 4 months before they replaced it with the D1730 stating that it couldnt be repaired. I was upset because I lost some of the features I liked about this DVD player ie: the ability to charge the battery while my son watched a DVD. All the service people kept saying was "but the screen is bigger" as if that would be the only feature I cared about. I have had the 1730 under 2 years and it only gets occasional use when we are on a long car trip. The screen on this player has now died; right in the middle of a trip my 5 year old starts to cry because he cant see the screen. The same problem as the last player I had. I will never buy another Audiovox product again and as you can see from my review, if I can save anyone else the agony of dealing with Audiovox customer service, I will.

I bought this model almost 3 years ago and it is indistructable. I bought it for my husband but we ended up using it to entertain our son when we go out to eat. We have used this at least twice a week for 3 years and it performs great. It still holds a 3 hour charge. We have taken it on planes, in the car, every where and it keeps going. Im looking to buy another one but will probably get a newer model. Hope it holds up as well.

We purchased this unit about 3 weeks ago and noticed the very first day how incredibly hot this unit gets! We have only watched about 4 movies on it so far, but every time we do it gets very hot in the base near the AC/DC adapter, and the last time we used it, very hot in the upper left corner above the screen. It works fine so far, although the volume could be louder on the speakers. I cannot believe that it is good for the unit to operate at these temperatures, and with all of the bad reviews, I plan on trying to return mine to Wal-Mart.

I bought this model new 2 years ago. This player was treated with kid gloves and never abused and only played about 100 hours in the last 2 years. It worked great for 18 months. Gradually I started noticing that some DVDs would not play on it. None of the newer Disney movies will work. Most new DVDs wont work I am lucky to get 1 out of 5 to play. and... all the DVDs I have tried are new DVDs - not rentals.I took it back to the place I bought it and they cleaned everything and it still does not work... In addition, this player is ok to listen to on audio if you are in a quiet place, but try to listen to it when there is noise - like in a car - forget it. The few times I took it in a car - I had to buy external battery operated speakers to be able to hear what was being played on the DVD! I spent alot of money on this and it is out of warranty - so I am out of luck. PLEASE..if you are looking for a portable DVD player - dont buy this piece of junk. Buy another brand.
Ill never ever buy anything with the name Audiovox on it again.

We purchased this unit for Christmas of 2002. In July 2003 the player quit entirely...disc would spin but the screen was flat gray. No picture. Called Audiovox, they had no idea what the problem was and said to ship it back. Spent $10 to return via ups. They could not repair so sent a replacement. The 2nd one worked until January of 2004, then quit also. This time I was told that because the 1 year warranty had expired (from the date of purchase-not the date of replacement) I was out of luck. I could send it back for repairs at my expense. Fortunately I had the foresight to have purchased it on American Express which automatically doubles a warranty up to one year. Amex is going to refund my money so that I can purchase a new unit. The next one will definitely NOT BE AN AUDIOVOX!!

This player can potentially be made multi-region. Here is the code:
Using the remote:
1. Press Setup, +10, Prev, Next.
2. A screen will appear which will indicate that the DVD player is set to Region 1.
3. Use the left and right arrows to select the region you want to play.
4. Press Setup to exit.
5. Power off the DVD player.
6. Power on the DVD player and it will be set to the new Region.

Beautiful picture if you can get it to play. I have experienced constant freeups. After I returned the player to the manufacturer,they sent me a new one which I had just received this week; however, this one is worst than the original player. This not an isolated problem. Before I purchased this player, I read several reviews about the same problem; however, I didnt listen, I found out the hard way.

Audiovox should be ashamed of selling a product this unreliable. I think it worked for the first month and then completely went downhill. One out of twenty DVDs (maybe) will work in it and its practically brand new. Im super (mad) at this waste of money!!

I got this player for my eight-year old daughter to use on car and plane trips. Well, we use it for that, but I also hooked it up to the little TV she watches in the den, and so she gets to watch dvds all the time. Its really wonderful -- comes with all the cables and stuff youll ever need, the battery lasts long enough for a full movie, and the screen is big enough for situations where youll be watching on the player and not on a TV. I have no complaints whatsoever, and after using mine and looking at lots of other players, my brother-in-law wants one for his birthday!

After some research on several systems,This product is perfect for my needs.Its been used in both an airplane and car.The size,non skid bottom and accessories were perfect.
I have not found another system that offers the extra accessories for the same coast as this.

I just want to let people know that this is a very nice DVD player for the money. I was a little hesitant to buy this particular player because of such mixed reviews. I told my son to use it as much as possible to make sure we would keep it. After owning it for about a month now, it has been nothing but good to us. We take it on camping trips, for the ride there, AND for when we get there. I like the fact that it is a heavier unit. When we are in the truck(and I might add that this is a bumpy ride), it is heavy enough that it doesnt slide around. The picture has yet to skip!

I first purchased this as a gift for someone else, then bought one for myself. I use this as the DVD player for my bedroom, in addition to my portable automobile entertainment system for long family trips (doubles as a CD player). My only complaint is that sometimes the pictures freezes. This is one of the better deals because of all the accessories that come with the kit. The first one I bought had a faulty remote control, which audiovox replaced without any hassle. The screen is larger than many DVDs that are on the market today. Great product for the money.

After reading the reviews on this Audiovox DVD 1680 Player I decided to order it. But to my surprise I couldnt have it shipped to Japan. I ordered it and had it sent to my friends house in the US and he returned to Japan with my treasure. Actually I told him to test it out and he did. He was quite impressed. But the big test came on the way over from the US to Japan. He immediately handed it over to his twelve year old daughter who watched for four hours. After receiving it I have been more than happy with this product. And to this day my friends daughter asks when she can test it again.

We regularly fly on long trips and occasionally long road trips and travelling with a 4 and 2 year old can now be classed as "no problem"
Airlines never show toddler friendly movies so now we just take 2 or 3 of their own DVDs and I can keep them sitting down.
The only drawback is 3.5hr battery life so you need to buy a second battery for air trips where you cant use other power sources. The replacements battersy are very expensive!

I reacieved this machine from my company as a prize. Right from the start it would skip and freeze up, tried several different dvds with no avail. Eventually stopped working completely, dvd would not load "invalid entry". Since I got it as a prize could not return it. I did however send in the warrantee card and contacted the company for repair. No suprise they did not have me on file so I had to get a letter from my employer stating it was given to me! Customer service does not know the meaning of service! several calls and three weeks later I still do not have it back or any confirmation of when I will recieve it. Do not purchase this item, wont work and Audiovox does not stand behind their products...

I was somewhat sceptical purchasing this product because all of the bad reviews that it received. Boy, am I glad that I didnt listen to anyone. From the moment I took the player out the box, to watching a full movie, this player did not run into any problems whatsoever.
It continues to play every DVD I put into it. I even gave it the shock test by moderately tapping it on the top and sides, and to my surprise, not even a skip. It kept on playing and producing a perfect picture. It gets lukewarm when you play DVDs, but that is normal with any DVD player.
I would highly recommend this portable DVD player to anyone. Sure, some equipment have problems right out of the box. I can truthfully say that this one did not.

The 1680 is an excellent product at an excellent price. The screen is bright and rich and exceeds my expectations. I have had the player for a month and encountered no problems. Last year I called Audiovox tech support for my Maestro pocket PC and they were very friendly and helpful. A great American company based on Long Island, New York. I recommend Audiovox!

I purchased this DVD player and the first one I received malfunctioned immediately out of the box. Amazon.[com] accepted my first return and sent me a new one. The second one worked the first few times, however this one has also begun to malfunction. After inserting a DVD, the player will simply not play the movie. Amazon.[com] would not accept my second return and passed responsibility to the manufacturer.My experience has been very frustrating. I would strongly recommend not purchasing this product.

Did not have good luck with this unit; after only a couple of uses on car trips with kids, screen went blank, could not get picture back. Hooked up to TV for a few days, then it started skipping and freezing up. Got as a christmas gift, so now we have to figure out how to return it for a refund. Would not recommend to others.

I purchased an Audiovox DVD1680 prior to a series of trips across the country. It remained in its case whenever not in use, and I was very careful with handling and precautions.Just as with the previous reviewers, all of a sudden the unit started freezing up..then refused to play ANY DVDs. Further, the spinning of the DVDs in the unit started to make a squeaking noise, and I was concerned that continued attempts at getting it to work would probably only result in damage to the DVDs themselves. So, back to Target it went, where it was cheerfully accepted back, and my credit card credited.

Well, Ive gone through two of these and both malfunctioned repeatedly. The first unit was a Christmas present. Worked the first time, then would not load dvds (several were tried) and once I got to work again it was very inconsistent, froze up, and often would not load. Put it in the car for our kids to watch in the second seat of our minivan and it took many tries to get it to work.After return to Target got a new one and while this one worked the first few times, it was not possible to hear it at full volume on a plane, a big disappointment. Once overseas, it started freezing up and doing strange things again. Ive learned my lesson on this one. The Audiovox is not ready for prime time and i would recommend being very wary of this product.

I purchased the 1680 for the holiday for my kids. I read all of the reviews and even called Audiovox technical for some advise on which model to purchase. He suggested and I decided on the 1680. I purchased the model at Target on a great sale. After the holidays we used the unit for the kids in the car. We had a few problems once in a while with the unit recognizing the dvd. However we decided not to worry about it. The kids always used headphones. Then one day I decided to show the guys at the office my new toy. The unit would not play sound out to the the speakers only by the headphones. Well back it went to Target. I received a new one from Target. We just came back from a President Day trip, the unit froze up twice during our 6 hour drive and the display was hard to get working. So it is going back. I have already ordered the Panasonic unit. I havent read one negative review on the Panasonic unit. However it cost me $200 more.. I surely hope it works. It is life changing experience when traveling with kids and headphones.

I liked this machine so much, I bought a second. It never skips and plays everything that is shoved into it. The battery goes a little more than 3 hours, the internal speakers with the little ear piece sound wonderful, the external speakers sound great (though I have always been no more that 3 ft way and have never had the sound on full volume). The slender size you cant beat. You can do everything "manually" on the machine that you can do with the remote. Im very careful with both machines, so Im not sure how it would hold up in a rough enviornment i.e. kids, . I would have never considered a Audiovox, but I checked out MANY machines and read every review. Im happy with my purchases.

Like other posters we have been very pleased with the performance of this portable DVD player. Our kids love it. No need to repeat all the pluses here. However, we need a carrying case that is designed to carry the 1680 and its standard accessories. There is no case for the 1680 listed on either Amazon or on the Audiovox websites. I hesitate to buy a generic case over the web because it may be too small for the 1680 (which is larger than most portable DVD players).

I exchanged an Audiovox D1700 for this model. Ive had it several months now and it works great-most of the time. However, on a recent plane trip, I watched a movie for 2 hours, then had to change DVD discs. When I put in the 2nd disc, it started skipping and freezing. I think it was because the unit had gotten hot. As long as you dont stop the player before the movie is over and then restart it again, it seems to work fine.
I also had some brief freezing issues with a new DVD recently.Overall, I think its a good value for the money.

Ive been bugging my wife for months for a portable DVD player. The answer was always, "No, you dont need it". Then surprise. There it was for Christmas. This DVD player is great. The picture quality is great. Ive had no problems with the player but have found that the disc need to be clean in order to play properly. I should say, it should be cleaner than if I would use it for my home DVD player. But other than that this is a great player, I highly recommend it. My player played about 20 DVD so far with only one that skipped. (Due to scratches to the DVD).

I was looking for a convienent portable dvd player to use while I travel and this one is perfect. Its very light weight and I dont think its bulky at all. Its really awesome how you can hook it up to your tv. I was first attracted to this item because of the price. This is a really bargin I still cant believe I got such a wonderful product for such little money. I would recommend this product to anyone. Its very simple to use anyone could use it. This is just one awesome product. Im glad I bought it now I dont want to be without it.

I loved my Audiovox while it worked. I got it on April 27th, and it was dead by October 11. It fell from a very low kids bed to a plush carpeted floor (l2 inches at most), and never worked again. The cost of repair, and the incredible hassle with Audiovox Customer Service, made me switch brands when I replaced it.

Im 14 and I was looking real hard for a nice portable dvd player. I looked everywhere for Mintek and Inital 7 inch Widescreens ones and that RCA 7 inch one for about 500 is kinda crazy. I went to Target and this was the only one they had in stock. Being my age i just bought it and i was very impressed.
This player has:
-Great sound
-Great Picutre, very crisp
-It wont skip if your discs are clean and unscratched, but if it has some scratches, like my Lord Of the Rings dvd, it may and will probably skip a lil from now and then, but hey, its your dvd not the player
I was though rather dissapointed that for somereason it wouldnt play my Austin Powers Goldmember dvd with infifilm. but besides that evrything worked great. The battery is a lil clunky but it still looks sleek, i just thing that they should give you good headphones or none at all instead of the crappy ones they send you. This player would be so much cooler though if it were widescreen. Becuase all my movies are widescreen LOL, but hey it still looks awesome, and the screen is bigger than i thought it would be.
So i do recommend this product, and those ppl who complain about the skipping probabbly used bad dvds.

I bought this for long trips and expected way more than what we recieved. After one hour it started to freeze, play for a few minutes, and then freeze again over and over. Finally it skipped all the way to the ending credits from the middle of the movie. I heard great reviews, but it is a lousy machine. Ill wait for better quality at a lower price.

WOW! This item is worth the money. Its quality is perfect and it basicly has no downside to the player.Pros: Perfect video and audio quality, great 7" screen, supports all formats, and good 3.5 battery life. The player also comes with everything you need like a/v cable, a/c adapter except it doesnt come with a case (well almost none do). Cons: The battery is pretty big and bulky and kind of hangs out of the end of the player. Also the battery drains out when not pluged in. One more thing, it takes long to load Mp3-CDs. This player is great in all, and worth buying.

I am writing this because it was from reading the extremely helpful reviews here at Amazon that I purchased this very item. I usually buy higher end stuff, and would have preferred the pricey Panasonic, but I decided to try out this Audiovox player because of the good price and reviews. I was pleasantly surprised! The picture is fine, sound was great even through a splitter to two sets of headphones (as is fine as well through the teeny speakers) - best of all the battery is solid, lasting at LEAST 3 hours. Many people here have described the weight/bulkiness as an issue, but I had no problem in that regard. I actually like that it sits heavily on a table on its rubber base, and is less likely to slip or be bumped off. There were no DVDs I had any problem playing provided they were clean. Letterboxed DVDs are perfectly watchable on this size of screen, and Full-Frame ones are huge on this screen as they take advantage of the full square size, rather than being squished into the middle like they are on those wide-screen models. One tip: the picture seemed best if I put all brightness, contrast and color saturation levels down to their lowest levels. So bottom line is, while this is certainly not the highest quality electronic device you have ever seen, it definitely works, and I was impressed by it.

I bought this item on sale at Target for use during long car trips for my 13-year-old son to pass the time. He used it over the Holidays and it worked out great! It was easy for him to use, and the battery did last 3 1/2 hours. After that he switched to 12VDC input power. He used headphones and said the sound quality was excellent. He watched both full-screen and wide-screen format DVDs. I highly recommend this unit for traveling. We did also purchase a padded carrying case at Target, which I also recommend for protection.

If you are like me, you have DVDs, VCDs, SVCDS and DVDs in more than one region. This machine will play it all. If you travel the world like we do you will be able to watch any DVD and since it has a PAL and NTSC converter inside you do not need to worry about multi-system equipment!!!!!

I bought this dvd player in the beginning of November this year. I got to play about 2 dvds before I startede seeing trouble with it playing movies. Then around the beginning of December, it stopped working. It just loads up and says invalid entry. Now Im stuck with a broke dvd player and I cant return it because I bought it at a Target across the country.

We absolutely LOVE this product! After researching all the portable DVD players available and comparing prices and customer reviews, we finally settled on the Audiovox DVD 1680 Portable DVD Player. We definitely made the right choice. First of all, the screen is slightly larger than average. The controls are simple and easy to understand, even for children. The picture quality is excellent- very crisp, and the sound is great; certainly loud enough for everyone in the car to hear easily. I read reviews on some other players where people had trouble with them skipping, freezing up, and/or getting very hot. We have had absolutely no problems with this player at all; it works perfectly every time. I think the best thing about this product, besides the quality of the player itself, is all the accessories that come with it; specifically the car cigarette lighter adapter, the AC-to-DC switch adapter, headphones and remote control. Shop around, not many have all these things included. The only thing we had to buy was a carrying case. Excellent product, excellent price, and happy children during lengthy travel time- you cant go wrong!

I have never been so disappointed in a product. Thank goodness for [Amazon.coms] convenient returns service. This product froze and skipped right out of the box on Christrmas Eve and continued the next day until we raised the white flag. Then we began researching other customer reviews, here and at other sites and the Audiovox 1680, plus other Audiovox models clearly have a pattern and history of freezing and skipping and being unusable. We are amazaed and appalled at all of the reviews we found from frustrated buyers who bought an Audiovox 1680 or another Audiovox unit and sent it back over and over until giving up. The question is this - how can they continue to market a product that has fatal flaws for at least half its buyers. One wonders if they have a conscience, cotinuing to sell a product based on either poor technology or poor design. We were so excited to purchase a portable DVD player and now are so scared by this awful experience, we are skittish about trying any brand. We have, since sending this unit back ( and again, Amazon has far and away the best return policy), purchased a Panasonic LV70 and it works perfectly. Its pricier but it doesnt skip and freeze. Bottom line - even if you get stuck with an inferior product from a manufacturer, using Amazon is worth the peace of mind.

This player is the Best! I wasnt sure how well it would work for the price, since others I have looked at were over $.$$. My son was thrilled with it. The quality of the picture is excellent, the sound is perfect, and it doesnt get hot. We have gotten over 3 hours on the battery, and the unit has not froze once. I would highly recommend it. Definitely got my moneys worth!

I have had absolutely no problems with this player. I received it as a graduation gift last June. I bring it everywhere with me. Even when i am in the car with my friends. They will shut off the radio and listen to the MP3 cd i burned. That goes to show that it sounds nice too. I have never had it skip either. Believe me i have tried. I have shaken it. Hit it. Done almost anything to it and i cant get it to skip. Its a great buy. I totally recommend it. YOU WILL BE HAPPY!!!

The reviews on this product are interesting in that people seem to either love it or think it is a piece of junk...very little middle ground. Ive never been a huge fan of Audiovox but the price of this player compared to others is very attractive. My wife bought this model for me about seven months ago. The picture is fine for a small LCD and it has a nice, compact design with easy to use controls. The sound (through the speakers) can only be described as marginally adequate, but I doubt many other brands are much better...speakers take a bunch of power to run. Through the headphones, or a stereo TV, the sound quality is great. Through seven months of playing, it has worked well. The picture has frozen momentarily (like a second or two) maybe a half-dozen times, but that is out of dozens, if not hundreds of hours of play. The battery is good quality and holds a charge nicely, and if you end up traveling and hooking it up to a TV (vice using the LCD screen), the battery lasts a VERY long time (10 hours or more). The bad experiences are likely the result of some poor quality control. Looking at the ratio of positive and negative reviews, it looks like about one out of five of these players is likely be a lemon. However, unless you are "unlucky", you will be happy with this products value.

After owning this product for only 6 months, the DVD player stopped playing. The website for Audiovox was difficult to navigate and find answers to my questions. The customer service department was rude and not helpful. I had to pay $16.00 just to send it back to them to be repaired!!! I think Im stuck with a very expensive paperweight. What happens if it breaks after the 12 month warranty? I was very disappointed. The really bad part was it was a gift...how embarrassing.

After excruciating research, it can down to crunch time to buy a DVD player for our end-of-summer vacation car trip. The high-end Panasonic model that we chose wasnt available in time, so we "settled" for this unit. What a pleasant surprise! Despite the reviews regarding skipping, sound, & screen size, we had no issues (okay, just one, when my 2-year old insisting on trying to play his peanut-butter smudged DVD, but easily resolved!) We bought a splitter with two headsets...perfect for plane trips, for which we appreciate a smaller unit for packing purposes. Since we didnt spend as much money, we are less nervous about our small children using this...the sound, performance, and battery/power adapters either met or exceeded our expectations.

This is a really good portable DVD player. The 6.8 screen size makes it good viewing for about 3 people. The battery life is about 3 hours or more. It can play MP3, Audio CD and VCD. I did have a problem with a few commercial VCD titles and I wish it would display more info from the MP3 tags like the full title, the artist name etc. I use it mainly to entertain my toddler on long plane trips and I never take a trip without it. If you buy this player buy a good case that will hold the player and it accessories.

I read all the reviews on the Audiovox model DV1680. My experience with it was flawless, with only the fact that there is no volume control adjustment on the remote. Tales of "skipping" on certain dvd discs was not apparent on my unit, and probably is caused by fingerprints on some discs.You must keep your discs clean to prevent skipping.Just like the old 33 rpm music records would skip if dirty or scratched.All in all the Dv1680 works perfect and is a good value in portable dvd players.I give it a 4 star rating out of a perfect 5.

I bought this DVD player for my husband last Christmas to take on his frequent flights but we ended up using it more as entertainment for our 4-year old when we go to restaraunts. It has saved more on babysitters that I paid for it. We have used this 1-3 times a week and it has performed very well. It is sturdier than I expected! The battery still goes at least 3 hours after all the use it has seen. It has a great picture and is easier to use that the regular size DVD players. I found a leather case which keeps the player, battery, cords and a dozen movies ready to go.

I bought this player about 5 months ago. I did alot of research and thought this was the right price and had all the accessories I was looking for. I have had some trouble with the player skipping with some DVDs. The skipping is really annoying, but I can live with it because it does not happen everyday or with every DVD. The strengths of this package are the items that come with the player (ready to plug into a car and/or plug in to my tv console for the kids while taking a long trip...)

Watch this every day. I have never had any problems. Have heard occasional complaint that it has a skipping problem, but dont

I bought this unit from Amazon a this months because I was looking for a low-price portable DVD player with large screen. The player works great, but just be aware that the screen is 4:3.
The screeen is 6.8" not the 7"
As such the actual screen size is much smaller than a 6.8" or 7" player with a 16:9 screen. Also, another minor thing that bugs me is that in spite of having a remote control, you cannot control the volume from the remote. And the picture quality and sharpness not as good as Panisonic.

I bought this having read some bad reviews about it but you get what you pay for! But I was actually blown away by it, the picture quality is wonderful, the sound is good unless its noisy, though what I did was used some mini speakers you can buy for discmans they work great to add extra volume. The battery does last about three hours but it does come with an a/c adapter and car adapter which is nice. I also liked the fact that it came with a cord(dont know what its called) but I was able to plug it into my home theater system for surround sound and also into my tv for larger picture. I also rent a lot of dvds and all of the rentals worked fine for me, if your having trouble with a disc just clean it, I use soap and water although I hear thats a big no no but its works great! Overall it is a awesome system for the money!

I receieved the AudioVox DVD 1680 as a gift to use on my daily train ride and I couldnt be happier! It offers the best bang for the buck among portable DVDs. Picture quality is excellent, glare is not an issue. The sound quality is also very good but the output level is low, which makes it difficult to hear low dialog on the train.
I did encounter certain DVDs that wouldnt load, but they were all rental discs, Ive never had a problem with any of the DVDs I own.
I would definitely recommend this player for the price.

This unit was a waste of money. After 2 days, it began skipping and would occasionally even freeze totally. The remote control didnt work properly, even within inches of the unit. The included ear-bud headphones only produced sound on one side. Made in Taiwan.... Better go for the Japanese players.

I love movies almost as much as I love books. Now I can take movies along with me just like I do books. This is an excellent DVD player. The stereo sound and large LCD screen are crystal clear and sharp. The color clarity is unbelievable. Superb output, no interruption in playback. Very easy to use controls and every possible cable connection is included. Worth every penny.

I purchased this player and it worked fine with movies, but was incapable of playing a music CD all the way through without pauses, glitches and other problems. I wound up sending the first back, got another and had to send IT back due to the same problems playing audio CDs (store-bought.) I also found the Audiovox info-helpline impossible to access either by phone or internet. Too bad, because it played movies just fine.

I originally selected this Magnavox unit since it represented one of the most affordable DVD players I could find with a 7" screen. The picture is sharp. And the player is very reliable (playing nearly all of the DVDs Ive put into it).Ive since discovered, however, that this remarkable little unit -- with all of its included extras -- has enabled me to enjoy movie watching in places I didnt anticipate. Heres where: 1) At Home -- But of course. The batteries last about two-and-a-half hours (long enough for most movies). And the picture is every bit as sharp as if I viewed the movie on my TV. But with the player on my lap -- and headphones (which are not included) over my ears -- Ive found that I can watch movies without disturbing others. In case the action gets too loud (or sexy), I neednt worry about shocking the kids. I can now view a more maturely rated title at a reasonable hour -- without having to wait until my kids go to bed. (Cool!) 2) In the Car -- This is nice! With the included car charger, I can now watch movies even if the units batteries are low. Ive enjoyed DVDs on numerous occasions while waiting for my kids at their sports or music practices (which makes the time go quite a bit quicker). 3) In a Plane -- No surprises here. The Magnavox is significantly smaller and lighter than my laptop PC (which also has a DVD player); and the picture -- even though the screen is much smaller -- is significantly sharper (and smoother flowing)! (I also use a set of Sennheiser HDC 451 noise-suppression headphones.) Watching a DVD movie on a plane can be very satisfying -- especially when compared to the (edited) in-flight movie! 4) On the Road -- On the Hotels TV. The Magnavox, surprisingly, came with TV cables and a wireless remote control. Once I arrive at my destination, I hook up my Magnavox -- and Im in business! DVD movies, as you know, are easy to carry. And the viewing experience (on the hotels television) is much more satisfying (and less expensive) than paying for the in-room movie rental. (Hallelujah!) Overall, Im very pleased with my Magnavox portable DVD player. My wife actually bought this player for me for my birthday. It is easily one of the nicest (and most versatile) presents Ive ever received! I love it!

I have used this many times since buying it a few weeks ago and am very happy with it. The picture is FANTASTIC! Very clear and crisp and easy to see even in direct sunlight! The audio is great with the ear buds provided - excellent virtual surround sound. The unit dos get a little warm after a few hours, but so does a laptop PC. I used it in a long car ride to Maine last weekend over very bumpy roads and it did not skip once. A great product! :-)

The product was a good price so we purchased it as an intro to portable DVD players. Not worth the aggravation! Has a terrific picture. Easy to operate. Sound/Volume is definitely too low for some situations. BUT this player gets hot way to quickly! We have placed it in well ventilated areas, raised it, kept the lid open when playing it thru the television -- ALL to keep it cool. Not long after purchasing this, it started to malfunction - freeze up - misqueue dialogue, skip. Then very soon after it simply wouldnt play most DVDs. Discs would spin intermittenly while attempting to load - never loading - no way would movies play. Then a few days later, it might work for a full movie or part of a movie. Then nothing. Exchanged it for another. EXACT same problems. It a shame. It had a great picture the few times it operated properly. DO NOT BUY!

I shipped this product back the same day I received it. Even when using a brand new DVD, it skipped. Sometimes it would not even play at all. Please do yourself a favor and avoid this product.

After a single days use the DC adapter quit working. In order to get the necessary replacement, the warranty requires that you mail the entire unit back to Audiovox.This is a hassle that I did not anticipate having to deal with the day after receiving the player in the mail. Thanks for nothing Audiovox.

I just purchased this thing one week ago. I tried a dvd given to me by a friend. The dvd kept freezing up. I thought it was the dvd. When I tried 2 brand new out of the box dvds. They both were freezing up. This is not the dvd player for me. Maybe this is a bad unit, I just do not know. I think I will look for something else.

I purchased mine almost a year ago for our long trips to dog shows. The screen display is great and the sound is good but could be a little louder especially while your are traveling in a car. We usually plug it into the lighter instead of relying on the battery since it is usually only good for 2 hours. I agree that the unit does get a little warm, but has not affected the viewing of the DVD. Overall we love the product and the larger screen compared to others in its price range.

I purchased the AudioVox 1680 for a trip to Florida with the grandchildren. We had quite a long plane ride and they were totally consumed in watching Harry Potter. It played with no trouble, but I noticed it was hot when the movie finished. My husband devised a stand that would allow the air to circulate under the unit and it has worked beautifully. I also use it when my husband watches a western on TV. Put the "earbuds" on and he doesnt even know Im around. I like the "earbuds", as they allow two to listen. I think I made a good choice in the AudioVox 1680.

I was attracted by the AudioVox DVD 1680 player because of the design, accesories, and price. Player operated fine for the first few weeks, even though the audio volume is low and can not be set too high. After, the nightmare began. The discs being played would freeze, slow down, audio spoken would not be in sync with actors mouth movement. At times I coould not turn on player manualy nor with the remote until it decided to do so after numerous attempts. ( It seems to have a mind of its own.) I have kept the player since I am always busy and was unable to return it. Lately it has been working fine with little demonic posessions of its own. Are the glitches worth the trouble, versus price? I do not know. Its your choice.

I purchased the DVD 1680 after a rather exhaustive search for a portable DVD player. I took it on a business trip to Scotland, and it played superbly. No problems chaging the battery from 240 volts British electricity. I purchased an extra battery, and still had power left after 7 hours of use on the transatlantic flight home. Beware of purchasing DVDs overseas - they will not work. Even though it is PAL and NTSC compatible, there are different versions of DVDs recorded overseas this player will not read.

I have had my Audiovox DVD1680 Portable DVD Player for about a week now and I love it! It is such a great value. It works fine in sunlight with very little glare and the picture quality is superb. The sound is also quite impressive. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a great deal.

I started my research with certain criteria: < $500, super-clear picture and extremely portable. I decided to purchase the DV1680 from Target. This is after quite a few visits to local electronics stores to sample different makers and models. To be honest, the more expensive models didnt seem to have as sharp a picture as the 1680. After reading a few mixed reviews here (mostly about the playback on some DVDs) I began to experiment. I tried a slew of DVDs from the public library (many abused and smudged) and had no problems with playback. At least give this guy a try, I love mine and saved a lot of money.

I bought this Portable DVD player at Super Target on sale and when I got it home it played very well and had a nice picture until I tried to watch a complete movie on it. It seemed like it got really hot about halfway through the movie and when I tried to adjust the brightness of the screen it was unresponsive. Then the movie froze and totally locked up so I had to unplug the unit and replug it back in to get it to work.
I took it back to Target the next day and got my money back. Target gave me a little hassle about paying a restocking fee but I talked them out of it. If it locks up the first time you use it whats going to happen a year from now? Buyer beware!

I read the reviews of several TOP Mobile DVD players, viewed installed versions locally and bought the AV1680 at Target for [money]. It seemed to be the best price for what I wanted and the picture quality is excellent. I have a GrandCheorkee and it fits perfectly on the console between the driver and passenger seats. Theres a no slip mat that works. The sound quality is not like your home theater but its perfect for the car if not using headphones. This unit comes with lots of accessories. I havent had any problems with the unit, no skipping and screen issues and think its worth the [money] I paid. Its perfect for road trips.

I have had this player for three days now and I am very pleased. Image quality is sharp, and I have not found any DVDs it wouldnt play. The sound from the tiny speakers is tinny, but it makes it easier to understand dialog through background noise. I compared this one to a slightly cheaper RCA model. Both could play MP3s, SVCDs, VCDs and DVDs, but in my experienc RCA players dont function as the description or even the manual describe. In fact that ties in to my only complaint, the manual. It contains a good description of playing DVDs, nothing else. No help in formatting MP3 files on CD-Rs or any other reference material. Just DVDs. I was a little skeptical of choosing Audiovox from experience in the past with their stereos, but this player feels solid and well designed.

...I found that it played maybe 1 out of every 3 dics I put in it, and even the 1 it would play it would sometimes freeze up or slow down. Well, I thought that every assembly line is entitled to one lemon, so I returned it to Amazon. Well the 2nd one has been no better. The first couple of discs did play (one with a couple of slow downs), so that lulled me into a false sense of security. Since then, no disc I have put into the unit has played. Tonight I put a brand new disc of the "Great Escape" into the unit 26 times and it did not play once.Im 43 years old and this is without a doubt the single worst consumer product I have ever purchased. As I said above, Ill give every manufacturer one bad product, but not two. And to top it off, I waited too long to really test this 2nd unit out and Amazon wont let me return it. This is the biggest piece of [junk] Ive ever purchased.

I did months of research before I finally plopped down the cash for this unit. I am a widescreen TV advocate, at the fact that this screen is 4:3 and not 16:9 worried me at first, but not after I saw it in operation! The picture clarity is wonderful, from even sharp angles. I am looking at in on my desk right now almost sideways, and I can still see the picture fine. It is a little heavy for its size, but were talking 5-8 pounds, so its not like you need to order a back brace. The speakers are more than adequate, and more than likely youll use headphones anyway. The supplies cables (optical audio, car adapter, ac adapter, A/V input/output) are just about all youll need, unless you can take advantage of the S-Video output, which will require the purchase of a s-video cord that goes from $10 to $50. I frequently suffer from "buyers regret" after spending a good deal of money on home theater gadgets, but not this time. My wife was even impressed, and believe it or not, actually congratulated me on the purchase. I still havent recovered from the shock. I could not reccommend this unit more. Good luck!!

This item has been invaluable to us on our cross country trip. We drove from NJ to California and this works great in the car. It fit perfectly between our drivers and passangers seats and we just strapped it down with bungy cords. It does not skip at all when we drove over bumps. Both of kids have no problem viewing and hearing it in the back. In addition, we were able to hook it up to a regular TV so as we are visiting relatives without a DVD player, we are able to use this. It is great that the car adapter is included--most of the other ones we looked at did not include it.

I bought this after considering all brands and thought that for the price this would be a great player. The next day I sat on an airplane for 5 hours. The only problem I had this day was that it would skip once in a while and sometimes the picture and they audio were not in sync. On the return flight there were major problems. I turned the unit on and it worked for about 2 minutes. Then the monitor went out. After planning on relaxing and watching a movie this made the flight very long, boring, and frustrating. I took this player back when I got home and purchased a better brand. For anybody considering purchasing this I have just this one piece of advice. Forget about it.

I bought the Audiovox 1680 in October 2001 after researching portable DVD players on the web. Weve used it on several plane trips and our three year old loves it!! The picture quality is excellent, the sound quality is good, but somewhat difficult to hear with the earbuds on a plane -- even at max volume. We couldnt stand the earbuds that came with the DVD player so we bought SONY headphones. Ive let several people borrow it -- once you try it, youre hooked!! Charge the battery overnight before you leave on a trip -- weve never had problems with battery life. Its worth every dollar!

This is an attractive player. The accessories were what sold me on it, and I was pleased with the package. I was disappointed, however, when I tried to play rented DVDs on it. It skipped very badly. I contacted Audiovox and was told that this is a low energy laser and that DVDs need to be clean to play in it. The same DVDs that skipped so badly in this player played fine on my husbands Toshiba laptop.

This player comes with everything (almost) battery, cig lighter adapter, AC adapter, and RCA cables to hook up to your TV or vcr. The only thing they didnt include was the S-Video cable (its optional). I love being able to play CD and MP3s also. another small perk is that this player will play DVDs in NTSC or PAL format. My 2 year old loves a group called the Wiggles. they are from Australia. The Australian format is PAL which wont play on most USA DVD players (home or otherwise). I havent been able to find US format (NTSC) DVDs yet, so I have to order them from Australia (PAL). With this player I dont care which format its in because I can play both

I purchased this DVD player, before the long flight with 2 kids. I must say that it served perfectly to keep the kids busy for 4 hours.Overall the quality of the product is average. First of all its very heavy. It is also bulky. The quality of the screen is not so great (pixely), and sometimes the sound jumps. If you are looking for a high quality DVD watching, go with SONY or Panasonic, but if you are looking for a cheap (relatively) way to entertain yourself or your kids on a flight or in the car, thats the way to go.

I have used this for about 2 months now. A friend was so inpressed he bought one too. I take this everywhere I go. While waiting for the wife, I watch a movie in the Van. (Using the Vans speakers the sound is great.) My wife & I took a trip & she used it & loved it. (This after telling me "I was wasting my money"). The picture is great! The battery lasted through 2 movies. You get everything you need to hook up to your TV or home theater. The remote is a credit card size gadget. It does alot. The size is perfect & feels solid. You cant go wrong with this unit...

I purchased this player and the RCA model which is in the same price range. I returned the RCA model after comparing the two side by side.The picture is EXCELLENT. Its bright and clear, even in sun. The screen is visible at about a 30 degree angle, making it easy for two people to watch the screen together. The sound quality is excellent, even on MP3s. Movie soundtracks were clear and crisp, even on the minature speakers built-in to the unit. The battery lasted at least 3.5 hours, maybe more. The ONLY real downside is the weight and size. Its heavy, as heavy as my laptop. So I really cant bring both on a trip. My laptop doesnt play DVDs and my DVD player cant log on to the web. The size is bigger than a comparable Sony model. Its well designed and works properly, but its a little bigger than it should be. Maybe the Audiovox 7" screen model would be better in this regard. But if the size and weight dont bother you, the picture and sound quality will delight.

We already had a DVD player for our main entertainment system, but we were looking for a video system to use in our van when we travel with our young boys. We were happy to discover the options available on portable DVD players after researching the permanently fixed "pop-down" systems..., the 9" TV/DVD option... barely fit in our Honda Odyssey, extra storage space when not travelling), and a "bag" system ($350, portable, 5" scren, but only found in VHS). We selected the Audiovox portable DVD system because it offered a 6.8" screen, which provides a noticably better picture over the 5" screens... The standard package for this system offered a recharchable battery pack, a car adapter, and an AC/DC adapter. It also includes a remote control (with battery), and cables to connect to a TV. You can also play back camcorders through the system. This player works very well in our van. The kids love being able to watch movies on long trips and we certainly enjoy the "quiet" rides. Widescreen movies come across fine. This system should definitely be a consideration for any parents looking to equip their vehicle with a video system.

I have been searching for a portable Dvd player for awhile now and I have found it with this audiovox. The player alone has great sound, great image, and very portable. One of the great features that this Dvd player has is it compatiblity with 5.1 surround sound. It plugs in easily to any television or monitor that has av inputs. There is no need to purchase any other misc. hardware because everything is included in the package: 12 volt adapter, rca cords, headphones, and remote. For the price this is the best portable Dvd player, you may find a better Dvd player but is going to cost you an extra $400.

I am truly a gadget person and always looking to get the neatest thing available that I can afford. The Audivox portable DVD player is the bomb! I absolutely love it! I take it to work and every where else I travel. Its so small and light and just fits into my "carry all" bag that accompanies me everywhere, along with a nice variety of movies in a little CD case. I have tried them all, and this one works. I have several DVDs that freeze or skip at certain points of play that I tested at several offline retailers as well as Amazon.com. This unit comes through with flying colors. It played them all! The price is right. I highly recommend this DVD player.It also has amazing image resolution and sound. I have this unit next to my bed and use the input jack which is connected to my digital cable. When using ear plugs I can watch TV without disturbing the wife at night.

This is one of the best portables for the price. The picture is good and the screen is big as portables go. One things that I like is the in/out video switch. Signal can come in as well as go out. I hooked my PlayStation to the unit and it works great. So much so that I went out a brought the new mini-PS1 unit.If I could talk my wife into it I would buy 2 (Audiovox DVD 1680s). Stop laughing you know you cant talk your wife into anything. Buy this unit and enjoy.

I just received the 1680 dvd from audiovox. I love it. It comes with everything you need. For all you "soccer moms" out there who, like I, spend your life in the car waiting for someone, it sure does make the time pass quicker. I am catching up on all the movies I would have liked to have seen had I had the time. I also have a younger child that is getting use in the car. Some of the bigger makers charge you extra for the car adapter but you receive it with the audiovox. you also get a battery that will take you to the end of any movie you have even if you get out of the car. The battery is charging as you are watching so it is always ready.

2. The large screen is great for 4:3 ratio, and just fine for widescreen.
3. Picture quality is very good.
4. This unit even has decent sound.A definate improvement over the earlier model! Recommended.
