Think twice!     On: 2004-10-23

The good news: My DX3600 camera worked beautifully for a few months. The bad news: Then it developed what Kodak calls "power problems." The rechargeable batteries do not hold a charge. The disposable batteries do not operate the camera consistently. The camera turns itself off immediately after turning on (and sometimes wont turn on at all). Ive talked with many other users who have this problem, and I believe it is a defect of this model. Kodak charges very high fees (over $100) for even minor repairs when the warranty has expired, so I cannot afford to get the camera fixed. I am going to stomp on my DX3600 (just for petty satisfaction) and toss it into the trash, then buy a new digital camera from a different manufacturer. I have no confidence that this problem would not recur with other models from the same maker, so Im going to look farther afield. I wish someone had told me about this defect before I bought my DX3600 two years ago--Ive missed many great shots due to the "power problem." Please do yourself a favor and think twice (better yet, three times) before you purchase this model!

Lots of problems!!!     On: 2004-07-14

When we first got the camera, we were impressed. It was easy to use, and the pictures that we took printed out very nicely.

However, after having the camera for a few months, we started to see the following problems.

1. POOR BATTERY LIFE
After only a couple of weeks of use, the rechargeable battery that came with the camera would only take 5-6 shots before dying. We kept the camera contantly on the dock, so it should not have run out. I assumed it was a defective battery and bought some desposable batteries for it, but had a similar problem. With a brand new battery, it would take 20-30 shots and it would fail to work.

2. RANDOM POWERING OFF
This was really annoying. After several months of use, the camera started turning itself off frequently. Sometimes I have to restart it 4-5 times to get it to stay turned on. Even then, it will often turn itself off when trying to take the picture. I have 3 small kids, and I have missed so many shots because of this.

3. LONG PAUSE BEFORE SNAPPING PICTURE
I know this is not a defect, but is probably by design (probably the auto-focus working), but there is a half second pause between the time you push the button and the picture actually takes. We have missed many shots because of that as well.

I hate to say it, but I will not buy a Kodak camera again. Its too bad, because when this did work properly, the pictures were really good and the dock is really a good idea. We eventually decided to buy a new, higher end camera (Fuji Finepix S7000). We will see how that turns out :)

Great camera     On: 2004-02-24

I have this camera about two years. I love it because it takes great pictures. The quality of the picture is just great. It has 2.2 MP but it takes the sharper photos than other camera that has 3.1 MP. It uses less memory to have 2.2 MP photos versus 3.1 MP. And the smaller size of the photos make you easier to send to friend and family via email.
Another advantage is that it is very solid. I have drop this camera more than 5 times on to the ground(Sorry, I am so careless when I was travelling) and each time It survived without any problem. It Only make the battery lid loose, but still working.
Disadvantage: Battery life is short. You can only take about 100 photos for a new set of battery.
Great camera

Ive had this camera for over a year now, and still love it. The docking station makes it easy to transfer pictures with the push of a button, and it also works as a battery charger. The camera itself takes great pics in any light setting, as the flash is dependable. To save power, I now turn the LCD screen off, until Im ready to review the pictures Ive just taken.

I think where the photos are processed makes a huge difference in photo outcome. I decided to upload three of the same photos to the three leading photo processing companies available on the web: Ofoto, Snapfish, and Walmart. Ofoto won, hands down, but I recommend you try it for yourself. The difference is amazing, and you cant tell if it was originally a 35mm or digital print.

Advertised Package

The Camera is supposed to come with a Camera Dock and bonus CF card, this is a big part of why I chose this camera. I did not get these. I am very disappointed. I am still trying to contact Amazon.com to get this resolved.
Complete Package     On: 2002-12-29

This order said that it would come with a memory card. It didnt and I am still trying to figure out how to contact you about it.
Digital Dandy     On: 2002-06-20

Price to feature ratio great. Not too pretty, but easy to read instructions, easy to use, and takes great pictures. If a picture is not to your liking you can take it again or spruce it up with the easy to use software. You get the flash when you want it and the zoom features are more than adequate. It bounces off the kitchen floor as well as any of the more expensive cameras and keeps on clicking. Very satisfied with this unit, and with an extra $15 rechargeable battery pack it is all my wife and I need for a first point-and-shoot digital camera!
The digatal camera

I have only used my friend digatal camera which is the same as this one amd I would give it a 10/10 rating, because it is user friendly and takes good pitures.
First "Real" Digital     On: 2002-01-03

I agree with most of the reviews that have already been posted. This is a great, mid-range digital camera. I have a couple friends who purchased Sony digitals about two years ago. To say the least, they are envious of the clarity of the pictures and the brilliance of the color.

Ease of use was not a big issue with me, since I am a techy to begin with. However, my wife has been able to take very good pictures with this camera with very little tutoring. And she is not in the least bit technical.

A previous reviewer made the statement that there is no affordable way to store large numbers of photos, so this was not a good vacation camera. I would have to strongly disagree. A 64meg compact flash card will hold 95+ pictures at the highest resolution. If you go to the "Good" setting (900 x 600) that number jumps to almost 400 pictures. At 900 x 600, you are still getting very clear, detailed photos. What more could you ask for? A 64meg compact flash card costs in the neighborhood of $50. Im sure you can find it cheaper on the internet.

I highly recommend this camera as a starting point for those serious about getting into digital photography. It is also excellent for those that want to move from regular film in order to take advantage of the "instant gratification" factor.

My Kodax DX 3600!     On: 2002-01-01

I would like to say, Kodak got it"right", with this beauty. The camera handles very well, fits right in my hand. Being a amateur photographer, it is a pleasure to use. The pictures are filled with great color, exibiting excellent shadows, and brilliant highlights. I am in "LOVE", with this camera. In my opinion, a good set of rechargeables, can suit you fine, without having to buy the dock, but to each his own. I have seen some negative reviews of this camera, but from me.....Kodak did this one "right". Try one out. I have some excellent night scenes, as well as people shots, in low light. I "LOVE" it. The videos are a "blast". This is a "great" camera. Just another shutterbug going "nuts", over his new "toy". Digital photography...WOW!
GREAT CAMERA
by: Anonymous    On: 2001-11-04

I have this camera and LOVE it. I work at a school and now take pictures for awards .... everyone loves the pictures and the video and sound are great, yes the batteries do go rather quickly but I just bought rechargeable and have a extra set ready, highly recommend. I tried 3 other kind and the quality was no where near as good. 2 of the other ones were more money and less quality. Just try it!!!!
Kodak 3600 really delivers!     On: 2001-11-02

I have been looking for a camera for using commercially for taking Real Estate pictures. I have been using the Canon S10 and S20 models. I purchased the Kodak on price with a 7 day return period. What amazed me was the superior quality of color and definition that the Kodak had over the Canon, which are priced higher. At first thought the Kodak does feel a little cheapo,-like a toy, but the proof of the pudding is in the reults.

The docking station is easy to use and ensures a fully charged battery every time. The picture transfer is fast. Often taking literally seconds compared to other cameas minutes.

The only drawback for me is the LCD not being easy to use in the daylight. However using the cameras viewfinder overcomes this.

If you want an idiot proof basic camear where good quality pictures and ease of use are required then I recommend this especially at the price Kodak have it for sale for.

The movie recored is O.K, if you want serios video you would purchase a digiatl video camear anyway), but is ideal for sending over the E mail to family.

Whilst some more serious enthusiasts may not take this camera seriously (no lowlight exposure adjustments etc) I think that for simple pointing and shooting, this camera will surprise you when you see the results. The colour and definition is very good on either setting (good, - better).

The software for downloading is clever and easy to use as well. Although the album feature could be made better.

Value for money = 10/10, an ideal first camera offering great results.

Great 1st Camera     On: 2001-11-01

Ive had the DX3600 for a couple of weeks already and am glad to say it has been a good investment. As a graphic artist, I was looking for a camera that could take quality photos that I could work with immediately. I was waiting for the price to drop and when it did. I went for it. Bundled with the Docking Station and 32MB Flash Card, the camera was set to go, right out of the box.

The video quality is ok, not great, but acceptable considering everything else this camera does. Indoor lighting is tough without using the flash and some pictures have turned out blurry. For my purposes - quick imagemaking and some video clips for the web - this camera ROCKS!

excellent camera...battery problem as well     On: 2001-10-11

I recently purchased this product, mainly appealed by the docking station and recharging features. I agree with the other reviewer...I too had battery problems. Same identical "red light flashing" indicating the need for new batteries, after just 8 shots. I had to use the power from the camera dock to reset the unit and get powered up again. I let the unit charge for the required "24-hours" yet the docking station indicated it was fully charged after just one. I then switched to AA-Lithiums for awhile. After going back to the rechargables, I have had no problems since. Really odd...works fine now though..

Otherwise, the Camera is GREAT!! Easy to use, takes great photos. The viewer is high quality and optical focus makes it worth the price over the DX3500. I take all photos at 1800 x 1200 and with the expansion card, you get 49 photos of best quality (on flash card) and 24 in-camera memory. This camera package is perfect for first-time users. Four out of Five stars due to the battery snafu early on.

Kodak DX-3600     On: 2001-10-05

I got my DX-3600 along with the camera dock recently. I am very happy with it. It has all the features a average user need (an excellent picture quality, easy to operate the camera, easy to transmit the photo to a PC or send to friends). I also love it since it has regular AA batteries. I will rate this one 5 stars
Great Camera! Great Price!     On: 2001-10-03

I bought this camera about a month ago and I love it... Everybody that I show my printed pictures to can not believe that these pictures were printed from my computer... I just wished I had waited a little longer before I bough it since the price has gone down in price since I purchased it... I would highly recommend this camera to anyone... Did a lot of comparison shopping & I always ended up back to this camera for its value, price and quality of pictures... Video is not that great but not horrible either... Pictures come out fantastic...Enjoy your new camera
Easy to use and Shap pitures     On: 2001-09-25

I have bought this a week ago and now it is a integral part of my daily life. Design is nice, very light, simple operation, good menu. The movie is a bit dark but acceptable. If you want to have a good quality movie camera, you dont want this. However, with this price and extra feature of movie, it is a good choice.
Picture was supprisingly sharp. I was able to view this on my TV on the fly also using supply video out - a nice feature.
Basically, this camera is built for a normal person without looking for too much troble. Except the low quality of video, I love this.

One bad thig about movie was it outputs movie as .mov and you have to view this using quicktime. I wanted to use Windows Media which has more function than Quicktime. I was able to find a convert software at ... - RAD video tool and convert this .mov to .avi format. Once I converted, I was able to burn VCD using Nero 5. Now it can be played on normal DVD. Recommanded for its quality, price, easy of use.

Not recommanded if you are a photo maniac looking for high end.

Who needs film, who needs kodak, and instant gratification     On: 2001-09-03

Overall this is a great camera for the digital age. Its simple point and shoot operation works great. We have a new baby and needless to say we have taken an ton of photos. The beauty is that you can shoot a bunch of photos in a row and pick the one or two you want and chuck the rest (at no additional cost). We print the photos on HP 4x6 premium photo paper on our HP 952C printer. They are awesome pictures! The quality is as good as the best pictures from high quality film processing.

Highlights:
1) Very easy to use
2) Shoot a bunch of pix. Pick the best ones. Crop them in the photo software to get the perfect shot. It is easy to look like a pro!
3) Rechargeable batteries (a necessity for digital cameras).
4) The cradle is very easy and it recharges the batteries at the same time.
5) JPEG files for email and ....

Criticisms:
1) Not a vacation camera. No affordable way to take lots of shots without downloading the shots to your computer.
2) The viewfinder is clunkly and difficult to frame shots (cut of a lot of tops of heads).

We are very happy with the camera. It has been a wonderful tool for taking pix of the new bambina to print them for us and email them to the family.
