Buy from Sam's Club, works like a charm!!!

Never written a review in my life but thought this product warrants one, becuase it was worth a risk. I am here to say this little dvd player is purrrfect! I have not experienced any problems and watched the entire 4 seasons of Sex & the City in the first 2 days of having it, did not skip, freeze, cop out, etc on me once! I use it as my main player and as a movie addict, its gotten plenty of use. Without a hitch. Amazon seems to have the problematic ones whereas those that purchase from Samss Club seem to be prefectly content. So dont pass up an amazing deal on a great player, beats trampeling some poor lady at Wal-Mart right?
Worked great......for a while

The title basically says it all. We used it exclusively until we got the Xbox (which is now our main game and dvd player). We then moved the Daewoo to the back bedroom and didnt use it for a while. The next time we tried to play a dvd, the player would power on, but wouldnt read any dvd when put in it.

I didnt try to get it serviced because I figured it would probably be more of pain to get it fixed than to just get a new, better quality player.

Don't buy it!

My dad bought me a Daewoo dvd player for Christmas about three months ago. It worked fine until one night when I went to watch a dvd it wouldnt turn on. Everything was plugged in correctly but no power came on.
Should be no stars

How aggravating...If you like freeze frame all the time
on 75% of all DVDs then this is the product for you.
I wanted a simple..functional DVD player. My Ps2 works
better. Im going to try to send mine in.
NOT BAD AT ALL     On: 2001-12-30

What are you all complaining about? My DVD has not got a problem. I did not purchase my DVD from Amazon, but from an electronics shop in Cape town. I think that for the [money] I spent on this DVD, it was a give away. I am more than happy and got more than expected. I would recomend this DVD to any first time buyer. It is a great entry level player.
A happy customer so far?     On: 2001-12-21

I understand a lot of people are upset about this product. I was, too, when I first began playing Gladiator.
Apparently, all of the movement and action in the opening scene was too much for the little box to handle without making it look extremely choppy. I found a solution, however...
Originally, I had hooked the DVD output to my VCR, which, in turn, fed into my TV. I found that the signal was much more clear if I connected the DVD directly to my TVs video input.
looks like its not just me...

Well i hooked it all up and it seemed to work somewhat perfectly for the first 6 movies or so...now...it will not play any of my dvds. they freeze at every chapter, and the only way to resume the movie is to stop and play again. theres no luck in watching a dvd at a certain point, because it does nothing but freeze when i try to skip a chapter...ive tried totally disconnecting it and reconnecting...ive about had it with this thing. it plays CDs fine, but...i wasnt looking for a new CD player...what can i say. you get what you pay for...and thats what i get for being cheap.
Average DVD Player, good starter.     On: 2001-11-26

When we first got the player it would skip constantly. It was to the point where we were considering returning it back to Amazon.

A few things to keep in mind:
1. It is very sensitive to scratched DVDs
2. When it heats up it will start skipping the picture and audio
3. It will "freak out" to where you have to completely turn off the power and turn it back on.
4. I also have not found a way to turn off the OSD by default
5. It does play music very well, no problems there.

If I had it to over again, I would have waited a little longer and spent ~$... for an entry level name brand.

We have had the DVD for 3 months now and it has stopped skipping all the time. Ill revise my review in a few months.

I bumped up the starts to 4 because the skipping is nearly nonexistant. The picture and sound quality are excellent. Will probably upgrade in the future but for now it works great.

Terrible Terrible Episode     On: 2001-11-24

I personally bought this item today ... ....Now of course every knows you get what you pay for...but in my opinion it should have cost $... ...not $.... Once I arrived at my house and unpackaged my new Daewoo dvd player...I started plugging in all the rcas, power, etc....First off, I started with some VCDs of home movies I recorded on cd-rs....Then some VCDs that I recorded on cd-rws...Both worked perfectly...I was starting to get impressed...Then I tried a cd with MP3s...no luck...no luck at all..It did recognize the disc...but failed to load anything on the disc..In fact it froze up...I later tried a music cd and had much success....So finally...I tried the DVDs and what a nightmare...A movie would play for about 2 seconds before the player froze...I was attempting to watch Hannibal....I tried several other movies with the same results...I then tried the dvds in my dvd player in the living room...and they worked perfectly! I do have to say all the options and different formats are worth the price of $... ....But...BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For the quality you get...It is surely not worth $... ...Just my thoughts.... ...

The ad does not say anything about speakers or sub woofer?
i don't get it - it's great!

I was a little worried when I bought this dvd player for a friend on her birthday - from the reviews, it sounded like there might be a few problems with it. But I set the player up for my friend, and we watched numerous popular dvds and didnt experience one problem! Seems to be a great player - it works fine, and the silver case is really attractive. It was definitely a good buy
This is an average DVD player, don't expect too much.

When I purchased this DVD player, I was looking for a DVD player that was cheap, and could play DVDs or VCDs. Basically, I needed a no frills DVD player for my bedroom and that is exactly what I got. We have a nicer Pioneer DVD player in our living room that is attached to our large television, which is much better than this Daewoo model.

An added unexpected bonus is that my wife uses the Daewoo in our bedroom to play music CDs while she reads.

Otherwise, there are a few things that leave me disappointed about this Daewoo DVD player. I dont think that it handles high speed action very well. It seems to have a little trouble playing the fight scenes in Episode 1, and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon without pixelizing a little. I forget which movie it was, but one we watched locked the DVD player up completely; we had to stop it and FF through that spot. I think that the remote is also laid out funny. The up/down, left/right buttons are at the very bottom left corner, instead of in the center of the remote, as many DVD remotes are set up. The DVD player is also a little big; it reminds me a little of a 1980s era VCR. Finally, I cant figure out how to turn the on-screen display off by default, even after looking through the users manual.

Each of these complaints about the DVD player and remote gives me a lukewarm feeling about it. Fortunately, all I wanted was a simple DVD player that could do the basic job, so I am satisfied with it.

Looks like hit or miss.........     On: 2001-11-12

First of all, I didnt buy off of Amazon but got the same price from Sams Club-and its black. Mine works great. I especially like the MP3 playback, it handles folders like a Windows environment would. Just pick a folder and it will play the songs. DVDs and CDs as well as my CD-Rs play with no problem. Reading the other reviews make me think that it pretty much a Daewoo quality control issue.
Buy it with your eyes open     On: 2001-11-12

I was lucky enough to get a player that did not malfunction and I am not disappointed. So far it has played every DVD that I have rented with a picture quality ranging from excellent to average. Sound quality has been good with every movie. I would recommend this player for somebody that needs just a basic player, doesnt want to spend a lot of money and isnt afraid to gamble.
Piece of ... - dont waste your time

I had to return 2 units because they refused to play DVDs properly -- lots of stuttering and pausing in DVDs like Romeo+Juliet. Spend a bit more and get something better.
Daewoo - you get what you pay for
by: Anonymous    On: 2001-10-22

Every DVD we tried freezes for a few seconds and then "catches up" but jumping ahead. This happens every few minutes throughout the movies. Definitely do not buy this item no matter how tempted you are by the price -- pay a little more, it will be well worth it!
Snappy DVD Player     On: 2001-10-05

It doesnt have all the bells and whistles that you can find on other DVD players...what did you expect for $99?!?
I found this very simple to set up and operate...I also like option of operating it with the remote or on the console of the machine...The player itself has silver case (know this if all your electronics are one color) which compliments my black TV quite nicely!
ENJOY!
Guess I got LUCKY!     On: 2001-10-03

My Daewoo has been excellent.
Reading other reviews, I guess Daewoo DVD players are like their cars...sometimes you get a good one.
The remote, well, it took some getting used to and I havent mastered it yet.
The manual is just short of worthless, Korean to bad English translation type and no correlation between remote button functions and a page to explain their use.
Have a savvy 18 year old explain it to you.
Stutters on every disc     On: 2001-09-25

So far I have tried to play Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind, Jacobs Ladder, and The Big Lebowski, and periodically the picture freezes or slows down and the audio cuts out for a second. I should have known better: you get what you pay for.

It is a nice unit except for the fact that it doesnt work. :-\\
Nice remote, nice outputs (coax, optical, s-vhs).

Turns on you quick     On: 2001-09-23

Initally, the DS2000N seemed great--loads of features, low price, s-video and component outputs--basically, everything youd want in a player. However, it worked for LESS THEN A YEAR before totally self-destructing--video transmission became fuzzy and black and white, front LCD panel went black, even the drawer front broke off. I would ABSOLUTELY NOT RECCOMEND THIS PRODUCT to anyone. You might as well spend the extra [money] for a player that youll still have in 6 months.
Instead of entertainment, problems to entertain yourself     On: 2001-09-23

If you are looking for a DVD player my recomendation to all of you is to pay the little extra for a brandname player. As I tried to use it after buying it, the player dint read any of my more than 21 DVDs collection, nor any of my CDs which I tried both one by one, some of them even twice. All I got was an onscreen message stating that there was no disk. Again, I didnt get the chance to play one single movie on it, not even music. Please follow my advice, it takes a lot of one patience and effort to wait for your product (3-5 days) then all exited one open it to find out that it doesnt work, etc.
Believe me going to the post office, make the line and pay to re-sent the product that is suppose to be functional, to then wait again.... hmmmm... its better to pay the little extra on SONY or PANASONIC at the very begining and you save the most valuable, time and one peace of mind.
So far no good     On: 2001-09-20

Out of the box I had problems. No matter what discs I tried, DVD or CD, all I got was NO DISC on the display. From other reviews it would seem that this isnt uncommon, hopefully my replacement works. I am giving this 1 star only because they wont let me give it no stars.
Great player, good price     On: 2001-09-18

This DVD player has been nothing but great; it works wonderfully with both DVDs and CDs. Havent had a single problem with skipping or freezing -- nothing but smooth sailing with a variety of DVD features.

Instructions are easy to follow, and remote control is lightweight and easy to use. Hookup is very easy, so unplugging it to clean or for my impending move isnt a worry.

Highly recommend this DVD player.

All I expected and more!     On: 2001-09-15

I have had no problems whatsoever with this DVD player. It has played every DVD I put into it flawlessly, with excellent picture and sound quality. It is sleek and attractive [so is the remote], and works very, very well. I am very happy with this DVD player.
Finding the rainbow.     On: 2001-08-31

Finally, I have found the rainbow in the sky.
This DVD player has done this job exceptionally well.
It gave me an opportunity in seeing the most colorful rainbow.

How? You just have to slip in a DVD/VCD.
And you will see the "best" quality signal coming out of your screen. Be aware, dont get too excited. Its only thursday night.

The outlook and the ability of this DVD player can be compared to any other "big brand" DVD players. Not only is the price attractive but the functions embedded are user-friendly. I actually brought this product two weeks ago, and now I am planning to buy a second one for my parents.

Lastly, just one thing you might want to be aware of is this products dimensions. This DVD player is fairly wide (lengthy), so if you dont have much space. You might just want to choose another one within this website.
