More Information

So-so DVD player     On: 2006-03-21

I purchased this DVD player mainly for its ability to convert PAL to NTSC and bypass the regional codes. (The hack is: "SETUP, STOP, [<<, >>]") Despite this, this machine makes loud whirring noises when playing VCDs or some DVDs. Another downer is that it does not have an On/Off button on the remote control. You have to press it on the player. Other than that, Ive had this DVD player for over three years and so far, so good.
Great Player     On: 2005-08-10

Speaking as someone who wants to watch movies and is not worried about having 543 different functions this is a great dvd player. I have the black model (not the silver one which is pictured here). I have had this player for 3 years now and it is still going strong. As others have mentioned you need to get up to turn it off. That is the only drawback I can think of. It will also play MPEG files straight off a disc.
IS THE BEST OF THE BEST.............     On: 2005-03-16

I buy this player to see a europe movies and I like it I dont have problem with this payer and I have 3 years with me, is the best. Jaime From Puerto RICO.

Buyer BEWARE!!! Do not purchase this ...
by: Anonymous    On: 2003-09-14

I am so glad that I did not purchase this ... They had a special on apartment rentals in Florida--if you sign for a year lease, you get a free DVD player. Im glad that I didnt choose the rental just for the DVD player. The player stayed in the box for about 6 months. In 2002, I set it up; start purchasing DVDs to build up my library; then tried the player. It plays for about 20 minutes; then the picture freezes. Turning it off, starting over, moving it from one location to another, nothing works; the problem persists. Maybe the next day, itll work; maybe it wont. Eventually, Ill finish viewing the movie; however, it basically takes 3 - 4 days to accomplish that small task. Why was this DVD player created; it serves NO purpose, whatsoever. Whenever, it freezes, when it finally decides to play, Ill forward it to the chapter that I left off. Thats the way you have to view a movie. I would rather go back to VCR days than to purchase this ... Now, I am on my way out to purchase a real DVD player.
Goes bad no matter what, so just don't buy it     On: 2003-09-03

I liked this player quite a bit except for the same flaws that the other reviewers have mentioned (no power button, subtitles always come on, loud motor, etc.), but now ive had it for about 2 years and its definitely broke. Whenever I turn the power on, the display on my tv screen is all wavy and multicolored ...totally unviewable, and it has problems reading the disc. So, judging by the other reviews, 2 years is a pretty long time for this piece of crap to work, so I consider myself lucky. Dont make the same mistake we made and buy it because it seems to have alot of features for the cheap price. Buyer Beware!!
Do not buy     On: 2003-06-04

Bought this for my mom as a Christmas present and it worked well for about 6 months- then it refused to read either DVDs or CDs. Still does not work and my mom had to buy a new one.
Unbeatable at the price
by: Anonymous    On: 2003-05-07

This machine has it all - available under $$$ too. Shop around and youll even find it under $$!

Key points to consider:
Region free with just a few remote keypresses. Can also select a specific region, in case an RCE encoded disk gives you a problem.
Plays NTSC-PAL and PAL-NTSC (PAL widescreen gets a little stretched if viewed on NTSC TV, due to limitations with the ESS chip they use, but this is not a serious problem by any means).
Auto-sensing 100-240V power supply - take it anywhere!
Add to that a digital DTS output (not optical, but hey!) and you have an amazingly high-spec machine for a fraction of the cost of its competition.

GREAT price, OK player.     On: 2002-11-13

You cant beat the price on this player, but its not the highest quality in the world. My other DVD player is a Sony that has always worked flawlessly. While the picture and sound on this Daewoo have been fine, it does have a few flaws. When I first start a disc playing, the subtitles are always on. There is no soft power off, the only way to turn off the player is to push the giant power button. The motor itself is very loud and continues to run after youve stopped the disc, which makes me uncomfortable NOT turning it off. And weve experienced periodic lockups where the picture just stops moving and the player wont respond to any buttons being pushed...we have to turn it off and back on to get it to recover. None of these are giant problems, though, and I think this player is a good choice if youre on a slim budget.
Good and Bad Points     On: 2002-10-30

Great, cheap DVD player, multiregion capability with the remote hack. Only problem is that if your not careful, it goes crazy, and scratches up the discs. Something to do with multiregion I think, because it only does it with my region 2 discs. So if you are thinking of using this multiregion, try somthing else. But if you are looking to play R1 DVD, VCD, SVCD, MP3, look no furthur, this is EXCELLENT!
Great for the money, but some flaws     On: 2002-10-26

I bought this DVD player for my boyfriend for Christmas. For the price, its a real bargain, especially with the huge list of features this player offers. I also liked the silver color, which is a bit different than the usual black DVD players you usually see.

The zoom and slow motion features were great, especially when watching Rocky. The only thing that was wrong with our machine (Im not sure if anyone else experienced this problem) is that almost every time we put on a movie, the subtitles will automatically come on. Id then go to the menu, shut them off, and then return to the movie. The subtitles dont appear for half a minute but then return. It takes about 5 tries before the glitch finally stops.

But overall, the DVD player is worth the money, has a sleek design, and has been more than what we could ask for.

Best DVD player for its price     On: 2002-10-19

This is one of the best purchases Ive made recently. The player works perfect, no need for any set up or anything, just plug and play. It plays all my CDR/CDRWs, MP3s, VCDs I have got from overseas and off course the DVDs. And surprisingly it also played the CD I had burnt with my favorite music videos (mpegs)!

It has all the necessary features one would expect from a basic DVD player. For its price its a steal. The only bummer is the lack of power button on remote, but I can live with it.

I bought it as a gift to my parents in India as its a true international DVD player and plays DVDs from all regions, supports NTSC and PAL seamlessly. But now Im so impressed that Im thinking of buying one for myself too!

Player Freezes, and Customer Service is terrible
by: Anonymous    On: 2002-10-11

This player was broken out of the box. It played fine for 20 minutes and then the picture froze. Turning it off and back on again did not revive it--only waiting an hour or so would it start to work again . . . for another 20 minutes.

Though I called customer service two days after I bought it (which involved over an hour of wait time before an automated menu gave me the number of a local representative--and forget about online help--the site seems designed to keep you from contacting them) I was not offered an exchange, and all the work to replace the damaged product had to be made by me. I was asked to bring it to a "repair place" that was so far out of my way, getting there and back would cost more than the unit. Daewoos philosphy is not, apparently, "The customer is always right," but rather "Buyer beware."

Do not buy this product, or--I would recommend--anything from Daewoo.

excellent
by: Anonymous    On: 2002-10-07

A great buy. Multi-voltage, works in the US and Europe, Multi-region, plays DVDs no matter where in the world you buy them.
Good basic player for about two weeks     On: 2002-10-01

We thought this player was just great for about two weeks. Since then, it freezes about once every movie we play, and we cannot get it to work again except by shutting it off and on. Occasionally, even that has not worked, and it refuses to stop freezing. I was too lazy to do anything about it until now (almost 10 months later); Ill probably have to buy a new player because it just freezes too much now, and I dont think Ill be able to get the company to do anything.
Great for the price
by: Anonymous    On: 2002-09-24

I cant complain too much. I got a little more than I paid for and thats the good news. The bad news is that it took forever for me to set it up and Im very good at reading instructions. Also, that guy who put in his review that you could hack into this thing and make it multi-regional forgot to warn people about the smartchip in recent dvds that wont play if your dvd player has been messed with. Also, it takes forever sometimes to read certain dvds (like 5 minutes).
Good basic DVD player     On: 2002-09-17

This DVD player was the first one I ever purchased. It is a good player if all you want to do is watch DVDs and play the sound through your TV. However, I have the DVG-3000N attached to my Dolby Pro Logic surround sound reciever and the sound is sub-par. I have to turn the reciever up relitively loud in order to get the desired volume level and even when I get it turned up loud enough, there is no surround sound! (just sound coming from the front 3 speakers, mainly the center)
One minor detail that I am not happy with, is that the remote doesnt have a power button.

I would recommend the DVG-3000N to anyone who wants a good basic DVD player to hook up to their TV.

A Very Nice Machine     On: 2002-09-13

In years past my father referred to electronic toys as "kakeh-mykehs." This kakeh-mykeh is pretty darn cool. Its unfortunate that you cant power it on or off with the remote, but hey, I need the exercise. The price is right, it plays MP3s very nicely and it hasnt given me any significant problems. The one annoying thing is that itll go into subtitle mode occasionally, without warning when adjusting some other doohicky on the remote. But its a minor thing. Im having fun with this and I hope I dont have to end up prying it open like I used to with my Montgomery Wards cassette tape recorders back in the 70s. If thats the case maybe I can hang it around my neck and go as a robot for Purim some day.
OK But Not Perfect
by: Anonymous    On: 2002-09-05

The Daewoo DVG-3000N DVD Player has incredible array of features for the [price] I paid. Its my guess 99% of the buyers will never use most of them. There are however some glaring problems:

1. I am hearing impaired and the 3000N will not display closed captions. Subtitles yes but closed captions no. Not a problem for you but a big one for me.
2. There are 36 buttons on the remote but no On/Off. A real pain.
3. Periodically the picture freezes up on the screen. The only way to correct the problem is to turn the device off then back on and start the feature over. Because of 2., no On/Off switch on the remote, you have to get up and walk over to the DVD.

A piece of junk not worth buying
by: Anonymous    On: 2002-09-03

I bought this dvd in the summer and It works okay But there are many flaws like the picture quality is not good and am using a s video the picture is blurry bleeding kind like the remote broke the same week I bought it and the remote does not power the dvd you have to get up to turn on or off what a disgrace of dvd
Daewoo ares the best bang for their buck     On: 2002-08-17

I have had this DVD Player for over a year now and have not had one single problem. I personally got mine at Sams Club, but it is all the same. Everything I throw into it (which includes hundreds of VCDs and SVCDs and MP3 CDs) plays beautifully. While the picture quality is not as high as my Sony, for [money] there is no better buy. (Especially since the Sony wont play VCDs). I loved this DVD Player so much I actually went out and purchased another Daewoo (DVD-5800K), which is another excellent machine.

For [money] it is impossible to find a better deal.

affordable, but your money is better spent elsewhere     On: 2002-08-13

This DVD player works, i guess. Picture and sound are adequate. Easy enough to set up, although the button loaded front side is less than attractive. It is fairly thick (tall) for a DVD player, but that is not my complaint.

This may just be my player, but i cannot get rid of subtitles in some DVDs. I press the button and i can cycle through the different language subtitles - but problems arise. Zoolander for example had french subtitles popping up every time a new chaper started. that means i have to push the subtitle button 20 some odd times trough the film. My simpsons season 2 DVD shows subtitles for all words on the screen (for example a sign the characters are reading.) I CANNOT get rid of this. For this reason alone, the player fails. If yours doesnt have weird subtitle problems, then maybe, maybe, it is worth the money. i know next time i buy a player, ill invest the extra 80 bucks so that i wont have to think about a "next time" after that!

good for a few months
by: Anonymous    On: 2002-07-19

I purchased this player back in Feb. for the first few months it was fine. Played MP3s, VCDs, CD-Rs, DVD-Rs, and more. Then about a month ago whenever I watch a DVD, within the first 10 mins, the subtitles pop on. This happens with about half of my DVDs. Ill go to the root menu and turn off the subtitles, start up the film again, and within the next 10 mins, the subtitles will pop up again. It has also started glitching on some MP3 CDs. Unfortunately, there was no warranty for this. Should of held out for a better one.
File this one under POS     On: 2002-07-14

Well, it worked fine at first for a cheap DVD player, but after about 6 months it stopped working. When I put in a DVD it says Disc Error, when I put in a CD it plays for a few seconds and then crashes. But even if it hadnt abruptly stopped working Id still have plenty of complaints

1) Subtitles. I had to turn them back off every few minutes. Every time I interacted with the device at all subtitles came back on. I didnt notice any of the other reviews complaining about this, so maybe it was just a quirk unique to my machine.

2) the mute button that should be the power button. In the upper left hand corner of the remote there is a big red button. The power button? no, thats the mute button. there is not power button on the remote.

3) [disappointing] and confusing mp3 support. But thats not really a big surprise, mp3 support seems to generally be a quickie feature most manufacturers add on just for fun. Still, its a feature I care about so Id like it to be reasonably useable.

It sure looks nice, and it was a good value for the price, but Im pretty upset that it just stopped working all the sudden. So Im going to have to file this one under POS.

The only DVD player I've ever owned...     On: 2002-06-21

...so I doubt this will generate many "helpful" reviews but I like it a lot. It works great, the price was right when I bought it back at Christmas 2001, so if you need an endorsement to buy this item, here you go, you got one.
Great DVD player for those who are new to DVD     On: 2002-06-14

This DVD is great for anyone who is buying a DVD player for the first time. This is my first DVD player and I love it. Let on first say this, it is a Region 1 DVD player, but will play VCDs. This is wonderful because you can buy VCDs rather [inexpensively online]. The only complaint I have with the VCD thing is that if a VCD has even a small amount of dirt or something on the bottom of it the DVD player will make this loud noise, meaning youll have to turn up the volume to drown the noise out.Overall its really a rather nice feature on a DVD player that is rather [inexpensive] compared to most. My only other complaint is that the DVD player wont play CDs with the enhanced thing so you can watch bonus features on the CD. Example-My Jewel This Way cd refuses to play, but my Jewel Spirit cd will play in the DVD player. With DVDs this will only play Region 1 DVDs. If you want for example any season of Friends other than 1(which you can buy on VCD but it is worth buying on DVD)... Other movies that are also available only in other regions or only in another country are available at the website... Anyway, if you are new to DVD or are looking for [an inexpensive] DVD player then get this one.
Cheap and Frustrating     On: 2002-06-10

Bought this from [local store] based on the low price. What a disappointment. The remote is terrible. Very poorly designed and after few months remote stopped working. Too bad there was no manufacturers code available to use universal remote. Ocassionally CD tray doesnt open.Picture quality was OK.

Overall, very frustating. Never buy Daewoo again.

Great for the price but...     On: 2002-05-29

This is a great DVD player for the price. Its even got a classy look to it. I have had problems with it freezing on me during playback and the only solution seems to be to get up and turn the player off and back on. As mentioned in many posts, this units remote control does not include a power on/off button. This is not THAT big a deal except it sure would be handy those times when I have to get up and turn the unit off and on again. I would have preferred a power button over an eject button on the remote since I have to get up anyway to insert or remove a DVD. This is also a region free player which is nice now but I understand that might become a problem in the future as they devise new means of making DVDs only play on players that are not region free. You can not bypass copy protection with this player as one post I read misleadingly stated. Overall, I give it 3 stars for the price, features, and look.
Buttons -ouch
by: Anonymous    On: 2002-05-23

I found the buttons on the main console to be a bit chessy overall... One may expect the units panel can be damaged if not taken care of... and no R-G-B or HDTV interface *sigh*
Overall there are nice features not meantioned such as the Karoke Feature on the Unit and that it can play "-r" type medias such as MP3s.
Overall Happy., but not overly impressed.
Very Good Results
by: Anonymous    On: 2002-05-20

I bought another brand, had trouble getting the door to open after the first DVD playing. This unit has more features, like headphone jacks, works great, looks nice, and cant be beat for this price.Very satisfied overall.
Little flaky on mp3
by: Anonymous    On: 2002-05-01

I mainly got this unit for playing mp3s. The DVD part of
it seems to be fine. No problems playing the 5-6 DVDs I
have rented so far. Out of the 4 mp3 cdrs I have burned,
only 2 are readable by the player (I burn them all the
same), and one of those 2 sometimes "locks-up" the unit
during loading, and I have to recycle power to reset it,
to try the load proceedure again. 50% chance on that one.
Maybe I need to "close" the session when I burn the cdrs to
be more reliable. This unit will also not play CDs from
the store which have videos on them. It will play the video
files from the CD, but not the audio tracks. Once it loads
an mp3 cdr, it seems to play them fine.
good DVD for the price     On: 2002-04-30

We purchased this DVD player for my parents for Christmas. It was easy to setup and the quality of the video displayed is very good. The only complaint that we had was that the remote control does not have a power on/off button. Not sure how this got overlooked by the manufacturer - maybe people in Japan arent as lazy as we Americans!! My parents are not "technical" people, but have not had any problems learning to use it. For the price we paid - it was a good value.
After only 4 uses, mine's not working.     On: 2002-04-30

Well, I got my new DVD player and I tested it with a DVD, CD, MP3 over the course of a week or so......and on the 5th try the tray wont open. The screen normally says "no disc" when you turn it on, but mine is blank. Ive tried to get through to Daewoo with no success so far. Maybe mine was a lemon. Who knows. But since its within the 30 day return window, thats what Im going to do.....Return it. Too bad because the features are great, sleek looks, fantastic price, but a brand new unit should work better than this.
Very Happy     On: 2002-04-19

With support for VCD, SVCD, and CDR and CDRW disks, and MP3 CDs, this is a highly versatile DVD player, and for the price, you just cant beat it.

Im very happy with mine, so much so I bought another one to give as a gift to my brother.

Should have read ALL the reviews before I purchased.
by: Anonymous    On: 2002-04-18

Okay, I just got this yesterday. It looks very nice and it seemed to work well at first.
I hooked it up to a new tv and played JP part 3 in it and watched it to the end. Then put another DVD in it and it seemed to get dark quickly. The picture quality diminshed fast. I then hooked it up to an older television (that I intended to use it on) and ran it through the VCR. The picture then brightened and faded frequently. I didnt realize I would have to have a brand new tv to use this with. So to get it to work I will have to go and purchase the RF adapter $30.00+. If I would have known this before I purchased it, I would have spent the extra money on a DVD player that could have worked with My TV. It was not presented well. This should have been explained with the DVD player add.

ALSO... this did not come with any directions or paperwork at all. SO, I will have to figure out what all these buttons do on My own! The remote does not have an on/off button either. But the player looks nice.
Its not worth the hassle to return it, I will just have to fork out more money to use a cheaply priced DVD player.
So in the end if you are well prepaired for this DVD player it will be a good buy for you. Just make sure to have everything you need before hand. Oh, and read ALL of the reviews! hahaha..

great player
by: Anonymous    On: 2002-04-14

This player has everything you need! Before you even think of purchasing, please understand you are non buying a Nakamichi, Denon or Pioneer Elite standard model. But you are getting a lot of features which not of the above models have !

This system will play all regions (1 thru 6).
This system will function in any voltage level ( in any country).
This system will play NTSC to PAL and vice versa on any Television in the world.
The system has zoom levels, fast foward ,rewind and all other functions you will find in an expensive model.

I purchsed a DVD disc from Australia (region 4 PAL) to test this system and it worked perfectly on my NTSC television. Also, I dare you to find a better price on this model because all the websites I visited had various price levels. So far Amazon has the best retail price on this particulor model. So be advised !!Also, I played this DVD for more than a day non stop to test the limits and it never failed. It comes in Silver and quite stylish. Ill bet anyone that you will not find a better player at this price in any website (brand new), or in any retail dept.

Some of the setbacks are that the power off button is not available on the remote (so what ?), and also this player is not macrovison disabled. That means you cannot record a movie to a VCR (so what?). Last not least you have to directly connect the player to the television. You cannot connect it via the VCR , and if you do you might come across some picture quality problems. If by chance you do purchase a different region, all you have to do is press the N/P button on the remote. Thats it.

This is a truly splendid system, and its the best value out there right now! Get it before its too late.

Problems with some cds
by: Anonymous    On: 2002-04-12

I think the daewoo DVG 3000N cannot play original audio cds which have pictures or video on it. Is this a setting problem or it is not possible to play these cds..e.g. It wont play Rock Steady by No Doubt and Drops of Jupiter by Train
Great DVD Player for the $$$     On: 2002-04-11

This DVD player is pretty good at a decent cost. It plays dvds with clarity. I really didnt purchase it for the cd player or mp3 features, but I really enjoy it for its main purpose. The only problem I have is with the remote control. In order to turn it ON/OFF you have to do it manually. WARNING!!! This is not the ideal machine for those couch potatoes out there! There is no ON/OFF button on the remote, so if you are thinking about shedding some extra pounds, this DVD player is definitely for you. All in all, the player is excellent and very easy to connect and use. Hope this review helps.
Poorly Packed by Amazon, pixels dissolve frequently. Beware!
by: Anonymous    On: 2002-04-10

...After a few months, we found it to be defective and have to return it.

Cheapo design with only one output and no input, so that it must be plugged directly into the TV. If output is plugged into the VCR, the picture is faded. So I need to change cables just to view a DVD.

The picture is jumpy and frequently dissolves into big square pixels, especially around fast movement like a splash of water. "Moby Dick" was especially hard to view!

The unit turned out to be defective, probably because of the poor packaging at Amazons warehouse. After about 45 minutes of usage, the picture blanks out entirely and the only way to remedy this problem is to cycle the DVD players power off and on....

Can't Beat the Price     On: 2002-04-08

The only thing I can give as a criticism is that everytime I start a movie I have to turn off the subtitles/ and it has no ON/OFF switch on the remote. But it plays beautifully and you can get the region changer info off the net. It was worth it just for me being able to see the uncut version of eyes wide shut from europe/ and all the alternate european versions of films released here in the us..
one minor detail left out...
by: Anonymous    On: 2002-04-06

The set up is fairly intuitive, which is nice since the directions are a bit scant. One minor little detail the instructions left out was that the TV must be on channel "aux" or "ext" for the video to be seen. For newbies like myself - this can make for an anxious few minutes (or hours), vainly flipping through all the televisions channels until the magic one is hit upon.

The only other problem I had was prying open the battery cover for the remote, but aside from that I am quite happy with my Daewoo.

A Good Product
by: Anonymous    On: 2002-04-05

Daewoo DVG-3000N DVD works quite well for under $[money]. And though I havent tried all the features I am happy with the DVD playing. It plays forward and backwards in increments of 2x up to 32x. The only drawbacks are the audio/video hookups arent much longer than noodles and the remote has a limited range not accessible from anywhere in the room as I would like. This should be great for students who just rent DVDs and live in cramped spaces.
Daewoo Color unacceptable     On: 2002-03-27

Just letting you all know that my unit was shipped defective. The color/contrast cycled from dim/no color to bright/overexposed color. thios happened every 10 seconds. I also had problems with the subtitles appearing everytime I used features that had nothing to do with subtitles. I had turned off the subtitles in the setup page, but they still appeared. Wierd.
I cant recommend this product and have asked for a refund. I guess Ill go with Sony for a few bucks more.
Big value....small price
by: Anonymous    On: 2002-03-25

This unit has disc read capabilities not claimed in the sales literature. It reads CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW, SVCD and I am told it will read (X)SVCD though I havent tried it yet. For the price you cant buy a better unit. It is a little plain looking, modest fluorescent display, and a VERY inexpensive remote control. With video standards changing frequently it gives me a low cost toy until all the issues with varying disk formats/algotithms are settled and established. Then I will replace them with more deluxe players.
Arrived DOA.     On: 2002-03-25

I purchased this unit and could never get it to function. I do not recommend it.
A Good Basic DVD Player     On: 2002-03-22

I was able to hook the player up and have it running in less than ten minutes. The quality of the player is worth every penny! I was so happy that it also comes with a remote with options like zoom, angle, super fast FF, superfast RW, slow motion, captions, pitch changer and other handy commands. It plays all the DVDs flawlessly so far. If your looking for a nice simple dvd player for your home this is it! I think I may buy another one.
Watch out for condensation     On: 2002-03-21

When I first hooked this up it would freeze and lock up. However if you leave it on for a couple of hours with the drawer open it has time to warm up to room temperature and evaporate any condensation. Then it works perfectly!!! I was able to play disks that made my old Sony machine lock. I was also able to switch and play region 2 disks...For the price this machine is a real bargain....Just let it warm up before you give up on it.
Absolutely amazing for the price     On: 2002-03-16

I replaced my old Apex AD-600A with the Daewoo DVG-3000N and I couldnt be happier with my purchase so far. This machine does everything my Apex did (it can still be region-modified fairly easily), including playing MP3s, VCDs, Super VCDs, DVDs, CDRs, and even CDRWs, and it does so with a lot more polish and finesse. The picture quality is excellent given the price and beats the pants off my old Apex - I threw in several test discs that had given me picture problems on other players (including The Matrix, with all its dark background compression artifacts) and the DVG-3000N played them beautifully. The MP3 interface is also more functional than most Ive seen, and the fact that it plays MP3s from CDRWs (as opposed to just CDRs) is a real bonus - this player is not picky at all and will play almost anything you throw at it. Plus, it just looks and feels fabulous - even the buttons have a nice, heavy "click" to them that seems of a higher standard than the players low price tag should allow. Dont misunderstand - this is not a high-end DVD player - but its surprising how good it is for what youre paying.

The only drawbacks of any kind are with the remote - the range and line of sight both seem pretty limited, and as others have mentioned, theres no soft power button. Also, if you want component outputs youll want to upgrade to one of Daewoos higher models (which are still very inexpensive), as this one tops out with s-video. Still, these are very minor complaints, and neither I nor most people out there have better than s-video at this point so thats not even really a complaint at all. If youre on a budget and looking for the best DVD player for the price, this is really a steal.

not to shabby     On: 2002-03-15

Ive owned this dvd player for 2 months now and a few of the new disc have frozen on me. Its kinda ghetto! But its also a ghetto price. dont get me wrong, Im not a DVD player hater...Its just I expected a little more. But for the most part, all is well.
Nice price - nice looking     On: 2002-03-15

Forgot one thing - only a single audio output on the back. I had to split the signal to go to my TV and stereo. I know I live in the dark ages where my stereo is not plugged into my TV but if you dont want to part with a good quality, older hi-fi system, you need to know this stuff!
great
by: Anonymous    On: 2002-03-15

my father had bought this dvd player a few days ago. we hooked it up onto the tv in the living room and we had problems, the picture would get bright then darker(red tint etc) then it would flicker the top part of the picture. we tried a few different things and it didnt help.
i decided to hook the dvd player up to my tv in my room and it works really great, the picture is such great quality and i havent had any problems with it at all. it really is a great player as long as its going to work right with your tv. plays audio cds, etc. just fine as well.
Good price - nice player     On: 2002-03-15

Just got this thing. Easy to hook up and navigate. The remote control is a little "sticky" and is not as responsive as I would want it to be. Otherwise the machine is fully featured and the silver case is nice looking.
Great Deal
by: Anonymous    On: 2002-03-13

I bought this DVD player after carefully reading all the reviews here, and reviewing all the information available elsewhere on the web. The DVG-3000N offers a lot of features for a very small price. It makes a very robust first impression, and does not look cheap, like many of the APEX players. So far, I managed to play the following formats: MP3, CD, VCD 1.1, NTSC DVD region 1, and PAL DVD region 2. The latter was played on a regular NTSC TV. The built-in conversion from PAL to NTSC works well. I can wholehartedly recommend this DVD player, especially to those who own region 2 DVDs.
Junk!     On: 2002-03-08

Received this player today and it does not play any DVD! After trying 5 different DVDs I give up, it only states a message" No Disc". The main reason I bought this player was for the all region capability, it appears to have no capabilities at all! If you just want a region 1 player get a Pansonic or other reputable brand, Daewoo is D.O.A.
So nice I bought two     On: 2002-03-07

This was my third dvd player. I liked it so much I bought two of them. Its easy to use, and the functions are the way they should be for the user. Plain and simple and easy to figure out without having to find the manual and start reading. I rate it 5 stars easily. For the money it doesnt get much better than this. If you want a dvd player that doesnt require a PHDand a photographic memory to figure out I feel this is it.
a great deal     On: 2002-03-04

this is my first but I am very impressed with this player. ...under technical data listed it says no zoom!? but it does indeed have one. It has played rented DVDs fine, and when playing a cd-r of MP3s that I burned I hooked the audio outputs up to my stereo and the video up to my tv through the vcr, then selected RANDOM play, turned off the TV and enjoyed hours of music! The only thing is put all your MP3s in the root directory, If you make sub directories it gets stuck in them on random play. the salesmen at [a local store] were impressed with this deal too....
Good for the price     On: 2002-03-03

I must say for the price it is a very good player... I found the remote a little hard to use. The stop, fast forward and rewind buttons are at the bottom while the play is in the middle. Difficult to use in the dark.

In watching one movie I could not get the subtitles to stop showing up based on my preference. I had to keep turning it off via the remote.

...I am happy with this one.

Great buy
by: Anonymous    On: 2002-03-02

Many great things have been said, and theyre right.
I havent tried other DVD players with MP3, but almost all of them are reported to "flatten the MP3 folder listing. This player does NOT do that: you still see all the folders. The drawback appears to be that it wont play more than one floder at a time. I also seem to have a problem with CD-RW discs, but maybe that will be fixed if I only do a single burn. (Perhaps I need to close the session.) Finally, although many other MP-3 enabled DVD players appear to only list songs by name, this one does it with text, but its only 11 characters. Thats more than 8, but it would be nice if it was still more. Well make sure our next TV has the [superVHS] connector, too.
Good, feature-rich DVD player     On: 2002-02-28

Although Im not wild about the profusion of manual controls on the unit (almost all duplicated on the remote), or the oddly slow response time on that remote, this DVD player is a great deal for this price range.
Great DVD Player for the parice     On: 2002-02-24

This DVD player has everything you need. Plays MP3s MPEGs VCDs SVCDs, it plays all region movies plus it has NTSC/PAL auto switch. Which is very important to me as I watch a lot of imported DVDs. The on-screen controls arent that great but for this price its a great deal. You dont have give up quality (video/audio) for the features or the other way around and it looks good too.
Affordable DVD Player
by: Anonymous    On: 2002-02-18

The Daewoo DVG-3000N is an excellent performer for the money. Visually, the unit has a look that gives the impression that it costs more than it actually does, although the digital lcd display my appear cheap when compared to higher end models. Aside from this the Daewoo plays dvds flawlessly and I would say that this would be along the lines of the Apex 600B DVD player, which is legendary for its ability to perform beyond its price range and with minor adjustment, play other regional dvds.
Lot of pain before DVD player actually works     On: 2002-02-17

I bought this DVD player last month. I had a 3 year old TV which did not have video jacks. So I hooked up this DVD player thro my VCR. I found that the picture fades in and out. Every few minutes it disappears and appears again. When I contacted customer service they told me it was due to some software (Macrovision) which is supposed to protect copying of DVDs and that if I bought a RF modulator it would work. So I had to shell out another $30 for this. This RF Mod. did not have a coaxial cable so I had to buy this also.
I would have saved lot of trouble if all this info was posted on the site. Also I cannot understand the logic of loading a software to protect DVD and then have a hardware (RF) to override it. wouldnt it have been easier for the customers if the software was not loaded at all ? I would have been spared paying 3 companies (Daewoo, Macrovision and RF) instead of just the DVD player.
I also bought this player because it was multi region but after reading the reviews on this site I know I will have problems with that also.
It is like even if you want to be legitimate, the company forces you to hack just to get the basic features which are already loaded in the DVD player.
Great unit for the money     On: 2002-02-09

I would definitely recommend this unit to anyone. I have had no problems playing mp3 cds, vcds or svcds. DVD play is great as well. The features are pretty basic (zoom, ffwd up to 10x, etc) but if you just want to pop a movie in and watch it, youll have no problems. It plays all regions (with a slight hack to get to the menu). Like others have said, not having an on/off button on the remote does get a little tiresome, but this is the only unit at this low price that plays all formats of cds, and the on/off problem is a small price to pay for this feature. The next step up would be progressive scan and dolby digital/dts decoders, but that would jack the price up too much. Overall, its a great DVD player and an awesome value if you have the need to play mp3s, vcds etc.

I really like this machine. It rocks.
Skips and freezes constantly     On: 2002-01-29

I am embarrased to have given two of these for Christmas. I bought for one myself and if the ones I gave are as unreliable the recipients may never rent or buy another DVD...
Nearly perfect for the price
by: Anonymous    On: 2002-01-26

Ive found this unit performs very well, and would recommend it. My nit-piks: the remote doesnt turn the unit off/on; although it does successfully play cd-rs and cd-rws, it occasionally balks at initially reading those disks when I first put the disk in - opening and closing the tray a couple of times always gets it to acknowledge the presence of the disk, but sometimes its a challenge; I find that having the unit on creates interference in my tv - that is, the off-the-air picture gets the slightest bit snowy on some channels. I have a cheap tv, and get my signal over the air, not via cable, so this may contribute to the problem. Watching dvds-vcds, the picture is perfect - its when I leave the unit turned on but am watching off-the-air content that it seems to interfere. Thats why not being able to turn the unit off with the remote is a pain. I think rf interference shielding could be better.

But, as a dvd-vcd-svcd-cdr-cdrw-mp3 player, I have no complaints at all. I love being able to make a cdrw mp3 disk with 7-9 hours of audio on it, and letting it run when I have company over, or want to hear long works with no interruption. Can you say Wagner Ring, on 2-discs?

Great DVD Player     On: 2002-01-26

This player looks sleek and capable of playing NTSC discs on PAL TV. Region hacking is possible. Ideal for a gift to someone special living in India.
Can't beat the Price     On: 2002-01-23

You get a lot of bang for your buck with this DVD player. Its my first DVD player so I cant really compare it, but so far, it has performed flawlessly -- the picture looks good, and it has played everything Ive thrown at it just fine.

Earlier versions of this player seem to have come "multi-region enabled" -- the player I bought is not, at least not technically. There are easy ways of getting around this problem -- Im not sure if I can advertize URLs on here, but plug in "darrenk" and "daewoo dvd" on your search engine and you should find out how to change the region capability of your machine.

The only niggle I have with this unit is that the sound levels are a little low -- one solution for this (apparently) is to use one of the headphone jacks on the front of the unit to connect to your stereo rather than the RCA jacks (red/white) at the back of the player. If you are using the digital (coax) out, though, to your fancy home theatre system, you should be fine.

All in all, a sleek little customer -- by the looks of some of the reviews here, it can be hit or miss, but I guess if you miss, just return it and get another one.

Impressed!     On: 2002-01-22

Thats an amazing product with lotsa feature in really afordable price ($99! + free shipping). It also runs in 220 V 50 Hz (havent tested it). Now you can have your mp3s grouped under different folders. Thats great isnt it?
Buyer Beware
by: Anonymous    On: 2002-01-22

I bought one of these as a christmas gift for my brother and was very disappointed when we hooked it up and it didnt work. The tray didnt open at all. I was forced to return it.

I dont doubt the claims of some of the reviewers but it probably comes down to the luck of the draw. Maybe it was a bad batch from the factory ...

INEXPENSIVE AND WELL WORKING     On: 2002-01-19

Its probably the cheapest DVD player available (in Italy, at least), with a lot of interesting features. It is set to play all DVDs (from all over the world), music CDs, video CDs and MP3 files. Really cool and highly recommended!
Daewoo did for us in the US     On: 2002-01-19

I ordered this player for our daughter who is living/studying/working in Providence, we are at home in England. The attraction was the price and all functionality, particularly that it will (when set up via the remote) play multi-region, and it will play PAL&NTSC formats. No problem with the set up, excellent picture via a 27" Philips TV. It does everything it says on the box. She took a whole bunch of English DVDs back with her after Christmas, and they all play.
Great price, great machine. We will all be watching something on it in February when we visit with our daughter.
Buy one - you know it makes sense!
A dud? Yup.
by: Anonymous    On: 2002-01-17

I bought two of these babies for Christmas gifts. Only one worked. The other one made weird noises and wouldnt play a thing. Im trying to return it right now, but theyre "out of stock" on replacements.

Not a valid statistical sampling, but thats what happened to me.

We sent it back
by: Anonymous    On: 2002-01-14

This DVD player has slightly worse picture quality than a cheap VCR. The picture was fuzzy and the color was off. There is no way to adjust the color and human faces had a greenish glow that isnt incredibly realistic. One of the DVDs that we tried skipped and stuck often. The sound quality, also, wasnt up to par. We tested it side by side with our other DVD player and there was no comparison to the life-like, skip-free Genica which is not an expensive player. We sent it back and are still waiting for a refund.
Poor Quality Control     On: 2002-01-11

Unit has good features, but manufacturers quality control is poor. Some buyers rave about this DVD, while others, like me, had to send it back because it will not operate properly. My unit "locked up", a problem that apparently is common with this product. I rate this "junk".
Great player with some "hidden" options
by: Anonymous    On: 2002-01-09

This is a great player. Ive used it for DVDs, MP3 CDs, and videodiscs. My only complaint is that its pretty noisy - you can really hear the discs spinning in it. Once you get into the movie or the music, though, its not really noticeable. My wife doesnt like the color, but I guess its also supposed to be available in black. The really neat thing about this player is that you can upgrade the firmware to let you get into the "factory settings" menu and change the region code and turn off macrovision.
Was worried, but......
by: Anonymous    On: 2002-01-06

After ordering this unit mid November, I read several disparaging reviews about this product and worried that I had made the "wrong" choice for my husbands Christmas gift. While he was impressed upon opening it (I was successful for once in the element of surprise!), I breathed a HUGE sigh of relief when it was hooked up and working flawlessly in less than 10 minutes. Since then we have enjoyed many hours of DVD heaven, although Ive discovered my family has a strange fascination with the foreign language subtitles and overdubbing feature on most of the DVDs Ive purchased. This is a good unit at a great price!
Shrek in black and white?     On: 2002-01-05

The player displayed no color (black and white only) when it arrived. Apparently that is a common problem with this particular model. I checked several support options, including the vendors web site, other web sites, and the newsgroups; the only given solution was to switch from PAL to NTSC, perhaps toggling a few times. This did not cure the problem, and therefore the player was promptly returned.
Defines "You Get What You Pay For"     On: 2002-01-05

This unit defines the, "You get what you pay for," philosophy. I purchased this player as a second unit for a bedroom but have been unable to view more than 45 minutes of any DVD before it freezes up and can not be recovered other than powering off the unit and powering back on. Sometimes picture and sound would be completely lost and no response to controls would work. Other times picture would vanish leaving audio playback only.
A great lesson in consumer spending to be learned here.

... it looks great though. Just dont turn it on.

For the price - no better
by: Anonymous    On: 2002-01-03

I realize most people dont rate something unless its bad - Well, I see a few bad ones on this unit and I had to say the one I bought works great! Plays whatever you put in there and well. No skips, lock ups, etc. Recommend to all....
A great DVD player
by: Anonymous    On: 2002-01-02

I have two of this model, the first ( black color )... and the second ( silver color ) .... The features and functions of this player are worth money you pay.
I can play DVD, home-made SVCD, VCD and MP3 without any problems . My cheap CD-R and CD-RW disks can be faultlessly played on this player.
I have noticed that a few people mentioned they received the defect products, I think this may come from the packing materials used... The first player... was packed very well in a big box with packing materials inside to protect this delicated player. However, [the other sender] just used a box to contain the original retail box without any packing materials inside. So when I received the player..., I found it made a lot of noise from this player as compared with the first one, and sometimes some disks can not be properly recognized. I opened the player and found the the rotary part of DVD-ROM did not sit properly. So I just push a little bit to force the part to the correct position, then it never made any strange noise and played all disks smoothly. I think proper packing can reduce such problems.
Fine for the first few hours
by: Anonymous    On: 2002-01-01

Everything checked out fine until a few hours had elapsed and the audio cds quit playing. DVDs still played fine. Waited for a couple hours to see if it would play the cds again but no such luck and returned it.
Excellent but does not play multi-regions     On: 2002-01-01

It only took me 10 minutes to connect and play this DVD player. The video quality is excellent (seems as good as an expensive Panasonic DVD player I have), but I had to brighten the TV contrast for a couple of DVDs. 3 customer reviews(from OR, CA, IL) say that it also plays multi-region DVDs, but I could not play a DVD from region 3. Can somebody tell me how to set the player so that it can play a region 3 DVD? This was one of my main reasons why I bought this player.
Wonderful!
by: Anonymous    On: 2001-12-30

This DVD player is such a bargain for the money. Very sleek and sophisticated design. I especially loved the zoom and frame by frame feature, which I used while watching our new Rocky movies on DVD! Theres absolutely nothing to complain about this DVD player. This DVD player easily matches the more expensive ones (which I also own)... This DVD player also made a great gift.
possibly the best purchase i have made this year     On: 2001-12-30

this is a deal u wont want to miss...there is almost nothing this dvd player cant play...including mp3 and v-cd,g-cd and many more. i no longer rely on my computer. it is an amazing machine, which makes my sony dvd player an unpopular item in the house at less than half the price. aside from its fine and expensive appearance, its quality and convenience is unmatched. its only flaw is the absence of the on/off button on the remote. The picture and sound quality with its direct digital output makes it even a greater deal. it also has a headphone jack and most of the functions on its panel...unlike the other cheaper machines. soon as others saw my purchase....they immediately purchased this machines for theselves and as gifts. better hurry b/f they r sold out. i highly recommend this to n e 1 interested in purchasing a dvd player. dont waste your money on n e thing else. this is the purchase to make.
How good is the Daewoo?     On: 2001-12-30

This player is great. Plays everything Ive put in it. Yes, we all know the biggest downfall is the lack of a power button on the remote but hey, exercise is good for you right? Overall the best dvd player out there for an awesome price.
My daughter's Christmas     On: 2001-12-29

I bought this item with not much knowledge of DVD players. My daughter was more than pleased! Her sister is now trying to get the same player. Thank you for such an outstanding item to give for Christmas.
Of course I don't know everything....
by: Anonymous    On: 2001-12-28

In fact...when it comes to DVD players, I know virtually nothing! What I CAN tell you is: I gave this DVD player to my husband for Xmas, and he is AMAZED at the quality and the features for the price I paid. Others who were visiting when we fired up the machine for its debut were equally impressed. According to my "experts" it does everything that the more expensive units do, and it does them with ease! Hes thrilled... and Im thrilled that I was able to get such a bargain!
Great deal, great performance     On: 2001-12-27

I was a little weary of purchasing a DVD player for under a hundred bucks, but I am familiar with Daewoo, so I figured that I had little to loose.

After waiting a little longer than expected for the delivery, I cracked open the package and saw that it was the exact product that Amazon was advertising. Better yet, it only took a couple minutes to hook up and a couple more minutes to set up the player through the on-screen display. I tested the player out with a CD, and it sounded great. Later, I rented a DVD and popped it in, hit play, and I was floored--the picture is terrific, the sound is great, and the options are wonderful.

I have had this player now for one month and couldnt be happier. It has many more options available than many others that cost much more. Recently, I had some friends over who had recently purchased a DVD player for over $230, and they were really impressed by the quality of my Daewoo player. When I told them that I got it for under a hundred bucks, they didnt believe me.

One thing that I should state here is that if you have an S-Video hook up on the back of your television (looks like a circular computer port), this player has a connection port for that too. However, the S-Video line is sold seperately. It is NOT necessary, but will turn a great picture into a crystal clear picture and can be purchased at any Radio Shack.

Not worth the money

Ended up returning because it did not function properly and was damaged upon receipt.
Poor quality, very flaky     On: 2001-12-20

Picture freezes. Audio/Video sync is lost. Very slow response to rewind and forward commands. Choppy action. Overall very poor quality product.

Only good thing is the picture quality. Much better picture quality than apex. Otherwise apex is much better.

Overall good But few Snags     On: 2001-12-19

Price is a bargain.
Quality of picture: Very good and vibrant colors thru s-video, But more than usually compromised when connected thru regular video out. on a scle of 1-10, S- Video score 8.5, (Regular Video score 6)
Audio: Very good on a scale of 1-10 its about 8.5
MP3: Very Nice.
Other features( you know what I mean): Excellent

Only drawback No power on/off on remote control.

Inside stuff- The drive is easily replacable if it should ever go bad.

Overall: A very good player if played thru s-video. Will buy one more for my Sis for xmas.

GREAT!....as long as your tv has video jacks     On: 2001-12-19

This DVD player is amazing...great video quality, sound, and A TON (pretty much every imaginible)of special features. Its got everything, from zoom to a A-B loop option you can use to replay any amount of time of the movie over again. Its also got a feature that changes the tones of sound, making an actors voice sound high pitched or demonic. Aside from the special features,it plays every format of discs. One word of warning though...When i first hooked this player up to my 96 27 inch Magnavox,I was horribly dissapointed. This is because this tv does not have video input jacks...therefore i had to use my vcr to hook the DVD cables to my tv. I tried this with 2 tvs and 2 vcrs...all combinations had the same effect. The screen has a very noticable fading in and out of color, and lines in the picture. When I finally hooked the DVD player to my last tv,with video jacks,it worked brilliantly. The picture is fantastic and flawless. So,its my theory that this DVD player does not like to be hooked up any other way than directly into the TV. If you do this, then youll have yourself a great player for a great price.
Broken     On: 2001-12-18

Played one DVD then locked up, would not play and would not open. Had to pry open with a screwdriver to get the DVD out.
Excellent value.     On: 2001-12-16

going for brand integration, there is no need to buy
anything else.
This Player does so much right!
by: Anonymous    On: 2001-12-15

Ok, So its not the worlds greatest DVD player..but it sure is nice to have one that is able to play all my DVDs without any problems due to region codes or the like. I have a buddy who always returns from Asia with a bunch of DVD titles...the problem is that they only seem to play in DVD-ROM players. I put a bunch of them into this player and it played each and every one without a problem!
Here are the drawbacks of the player: Poor display panel(very dim and hard to read), remote lacks a power button, and remote is not very powerful(you have to point it RIGHT at the player to get it to work). Other then that...Im very happy with it.

One last note...One reviewer mentioned that the picture keep dimming then getting brighter. Perhaps he/she had hooked the player up through a VCR? Unless you disable MacroVision...you cannot hook this up via a VCR connection (This is how they keep you from recording DVD titles onto VHS tapes)

Be aware

I got this DVD today. I cant find any optical digital out put anywhere. There is only one coaxial output. The info from amazon is wrong. "Coaxial digital-audio outputs: 0 Optical digital-audio outputs: 1" <= amazon. If your decision base on this feature, go for some thing else. Otherwise, I highly recommend. Its a great unit for the price. Enhance features do the following in sequence EJECT, SETUP, STOP, [<< (PREV), >>] (NEXT)
Great Value for money

This is my first player. I was kind of doubious if Korean product would perform to my expectations. I hooked this box to my system in 30 minutes and was stunned by the clarity of this player. Remote is OK. I am really enjoying my Sony Wega TV with this DVD player. Go for it folks....I really got it for 65 bucks with free shipping and I think this player is a great deal..
The deal of the century!!!!     On: 2001-12-11

I cant tell you how great this player is! Ive only had it for two weeks, but Ive already played over 25-30 dvds with noooo problems at all. This feature packed, attractive, reliable dvd player is one of the best. I still cant believe it was so cheap! Im sorry for the few who are having problems but as with any product, they are allways gonna be a few lemons out of the pack. I assure you that its definately not the majority of units sold though. I even called the company in Jersey before purchasing to ask questions and they were very cooperative in answering my questions. So in my opinion, you just cant miss with this PHENOMINAL DEAL!!!!!!!
Some inconsistent quality issues, but, overall a good player     On: 2001-12-11

When the first Daewoo DVD Player arrived, it did not play DVDs well. At intermittent times, the player would simply freeze. The only thing that would "wake it back up" was power cycling the DVD player. I notified amazon.com customer service and they were *GREAT*. They refunded my return shipping charges and rushed a new / replacement unit out. So far the new Daewoo DVD Player (same model) is working just fine.

Overall, I recommend this model. It is full of features at a great price. There may be some quality issues (on some units). Chances are, you wont be affected by these quality issues.

No, It's not too good to be true!!!!!     On: 2001-12-09

(...) This DVD player is something handed down from god, I love it. I plays all my DVDs, all regions, all my VCDs and SVCDs, it plays MP3s with the Author and Song Title on screen!! It plays PAL on NTSC and vice versa. it has Coaxial Digital Output for 5.1 Dolby AND! DTS surround sound. I had my surround sound system going so loud with this DVD Player that the center channel vibrated off the top of the TV!! It features a screen saver so that your projection TV wont have a hole burned in it if left on all night long. It zooms!! It does everything you could ever EVER want. THERE IS ONLY ONE THING I have found wrong with this DVD Player. If you have screen saver enabled, and when you are watching a movie, you pause it and leave it paused for more than 5 minutes, the screen saver kicks in. When you come back to play the rest of your movie, the framerate drops dramatically and you have to restart your DVD. But ya know what? I dont care, because this is THE BEST DVD PLAYER you can get (...)!! YEAH BUDDY!
Not a quality product. Don't expect at this price range.     On: 2001-12-07

This unit is designed to just play dvd (and other compatible optical media)
with some basic functionalities. Daewoo put every effort to reduce the
price after that. The cables included in the unit tells you how cheap it is.
The remote controller is badly designed. It easier to operate directly to
the unit w/o using the remote. The picture quality is better compare to
my 10-year old panasonic 4-head. The sound quality is low. I hear too much hiss and jitter. Maybe this is because the volume control has a
problem (I mean the unit I got happened to be defective). In short, dont
expect too much. The product is cheap because therere reasons, usually
sacrifycing quality or reduction of quality control (i.e. just ship whatever
they made w/o checking defficiency. If a consumer complained, then just replace it). Anyhow,
I decided to return this unit because the screen periodically change the
brightness which became very annoying after a while. (this symptom did not go away by
changing the system settings, e.g. screen saver -> on/off). I pay more for quality.
Highly Rated Multi Region Capable     On: 2001-12-07

Not much more to add from the other reviews, other than this is budget priced dvd player, with the looks and features of a much higher cost unit.

The multi-region (manually switchable) capabilities were very quick to set from the factory remote.

This unit performs very well, looks great and was a good buy (...).

You cant go wrong with this, buy it now, whilst they have them.

I purchased this item as a gift, and when it arrived I decided to check it out to make sure it worked. I was so pleased with its performance and picture quality, I had to order one for myself. I had purchased an Apex model locally at a similar price, but the Daewoo is far superior. A great unit at a great price!

Must be a great DVD player. Ive been waiting 12 day for it to be shipped!
Very Satisfactory Product at a GREAT Price...     On: 2001-11-30

Ive seen a couple of really bad reviews posted here, but I have no complaints whatsoever about this DVD player! This is my first, and in my opinion you cant go wrong for the price. Its easy to hook up and use, and the picture and sound are outstanding! I know there are more expensive feature packed players out there (not that this player is absent of a few, fun little extras), but if youre looking for a machine to experience the quality of DVD on and not something that will cook your dinner, wash your car and change your life, then this one should keep you content!...
This is the best $ dollars I have ever spent     On: 2001-11-30

I got my player yesterday and have watched four movies so far! I am not an electronics expert by no means,( unless you call playing electric guitar an expert,LOL )anyway, it connected very easy ,played great, I realy love the picture enlarger (if thats what you call it) If you guys are like me ,and just like watching movies and have good cd stereo sound,Then this is the player for you. Then again, this is my first one and before this I had a really rotten vcr, so I might be a little tainted. Its like going from a vw to a Rolls Royce.
superb     On: 2001-11-28

EXCELLENT player. The DVG-3000N was my first player ever and is still my favorite. Ive never had any problems playing any discs (except for some cdrws) and the quality competes with much higher priced players. The thing is darn sturdy too, it sits under my 21" sony wega without a problem. Unless optical audio output or component video outputs are a necessity to you, I strongly reccomend this player to anyone.
Adequate     On: 2001-11-27

Adequate DVD player for the price...One major omission, however is the lack of a remote on/off. You can do most basic functions with the remote except turn the unit on or off.
One Of The Best DVD Players, Period.
by: Anonymous    On: 2001-11-26

I have several DVD players. One SONY (DVP-F5), one Toshiba (DP-1600), a SONY PlayStation 2, and an APEX AD-1500. This is the second cheapest one, costing only a few dolloars more than the APEX. And this is easily my player of choice at home, even above the far more expensive SONY and Toshiba models. The number of formats it supports is the most on any player Ive ever come across, even more than all of the APEX players. And few people know that this system allows you to watch DVDs from Regions 1-6 on a NTSC TV, and there is even a "loop-hole menu" that allows you to turn off Macrovision (may be absent from newer models). The DVD video quality is actually superior to the Toshiba and APEX models, and the optical output on the sound is rich. The MP3 playback is also very good, and easily worth the price alone. The VCD playback is the best feature though, not only is this the best VCD player for a TV in terms of picture/sound it also has RW, FWD and chapter capabilities for (S) VCD. If you have a lot of VCDs that you only use on your computer, you owe it to yourself to try them out on this player! The headphone jacks are a nice tough but pretty useless since the unit is heavy and bulky. The only problems are (1) remote has tiny buttons and no ON button and (2) little tech support; if you mess up or get a defective unit, youre pretty screwed. I would recommend this player to anyone though, and for it’s price, its a steal!
great machine     On: 2001-11-26

THis machine was so good I sold my other dvds and bought 2 of these. It plays everything I want --- including SVCD and MP3 --
It could use some GUI inprovement for MP3 .. and a remote on/off-
other then that the unit is the best Ive used..
Risky Gamble
by: Anonymous    On: 2001-11-24

After waiting 8 days for this DVD player to arrive, I was extremely upset to find that it didnt work. After plugging it in and inserting a DVD, none of the buttons on the right side of the player responded (play, stop, eject, etc.). I had played this same DVD earlier at work so I knew it wasnt the disc. After messing around with it for an hour and half, I finally got the DVD out. I returned this one and bought an APEX that was the same price. It felt way more sturdy than the Daewoo and works like a champ. I think its luck of the dice whether you get a working one or a lemon. I read the positive reviews some people wrote and decided to take the gamble. I wish I hadnt. Its going to take at least 2 weeks to get my account credited, not to mention the hassle of shipping it back. I wouldnt buy this one unless youre the kind of person who finds money on the street all the time.

It's like a Japanese horror flick....     On: 2001-11-23

the Koreans are taking over! This is my 2nd Korean-made unit, and there are almost no drawbacks It works as well as the technology itself (DVD players are not going to vary much in the quality of the image you see), and has enough features to make most anyone happy. Connections for home theater are plentiful, a headphone jack is a pleasant extra, and the control unit is simple and accurate. Did I mention the price? Not too shabby!
Garbage     On: 2001-11-21

I am extremely dissapointed w/ the performance of this dvd player. I cant even begin to tell you how poor the image quality on this receiver really is. I have tried playing three different movies and none have played correctly. After every two or three seconds of play you will see either the screen flicker or small pauses in the video sequence. Oh yeah, one more thing. Even if you can put up w/ the flickering and the pauses in play, you cannot scroll through the different movie chapters too much without freezing the player.

I am not exaggerating when I say that the image quality on my 70 dollar vcr far outperforms the video quality on this dvd player.

Great for video downloaders.

I have heard nothing but good about this DVD player.
It plays all standard DVD great.
First it plays all 6 DVD regions even with RCE. It can be switched to play NTSC or Pal.
It plays all video standards. VCD, XVCD, SVCD, XSVCD, MiniDVD, DVDc, DVD-R, DVD-RW, and DVD+RW. And dont forget Mp3s. (thx vcdhelp.com for that info)
I have a collection of videos I have download of the net and can what to get this DVD player to watch them with. I have heard nothing but good about this player.
GREAT DVD PLAYER

This is a great DVD player, and I CANT BELIEVE THE PRICE I BOUGHT IT AT! It has great picture quality, sound, EVERYTHING! I gotta watch some more dvds now!
a great value
by: Anonymous    On: 2001-11-13

I purchased one of these Daewoo dvd players a while back, and Im going to buy another one because I gave my first to my brother. This player is a great value, and it works perfectly. I honestly cant tell the difference between this and the much more expensive Toshiba dvd player my parents have. The color (silver) is also very cool.
Very good entry-level model     On: 2001-11-12

The DVG-3000N is an excellent choice for beginers, screen is crystal clear as well as the sound (be it movie, cd or mp3), basic all-around functionality is ok as is the standard remote, the pitch control function allows you to speed up/slow down the perceived audio (I say perceived audio because no change is done to the movie speed) which is funny to play with and useful if you use the player in a PAL environment.
Connectivity is ok but not impressive, as it lacks component video and optical audio jacks, the player DOES have a ZOOM feature (tech data is wrong) and the manual is simple but complete.
Manufactured in China and backed by a well known Korean brand, this player is everything you need if you are more concerned about watching movies than about buying the ultimate techno-hype.
