This is the easiest camera to work with. It takes pretty great photos, and the software that comes with it walks you through the unloading of photos to your computer for e-mail, etc.
However, there are some problems:
1. Red eye reduction - Even though the camera has a "red-eye reduction function" red eye still prevails.
2. Not compatible with AOL 7.0 - When sending photos e-mail, I have to send them through my hotmail.com e-mail because the camera isnt compatible with AOL 7.0, a problem that was confirmed when I called HP.
3. Batteries - My batteries didnt last a day!! This camera DEVOURS batteries. I have the adapter, but cant use outside of the house!
4. Screen - Is hard to see in bright light, and sometimes, not so bright light.Other than these issues, I really like this camera. Its my first digital. I will however, probably purchase a better one in the future.

This camera was a very pleasant surprise. My wife and I were digital skeptics until we saw the quality and ease of this unit. ONE PROBLEM, that all the cameras have is that they eat batteries for breakfast!
Some notes on the reviews Ive seen:
1. Im using it with Windows 98 SE and have had no problems whatsoever. Regular Windows 98 is almost as bad as Windows XP in its hostility to peripherals;
2. You really shouldnt use any digital camera in bright sun, for instance, at the beach. Its bad for the LCD screen, which you wont be able to see anyway, and;
3. The Red Eye Reduction feature works if you follow the instructions and some basic camera rules. Namely, DONT have your subjects look directly into the camera.

very simple camera to use that gives a good quality photo entire operation is intuitive
small and light enough to carry fulltime
quick easy transfer of images to your computer.
good battery life biggest drawback is the on-camera image review; grainy image that is totally unuseable in bright light

I found out the hard way that this camera is not always compatable with Windows 98. The "unload" feature did not work well and when it finally started to perform the "automatic unload" to the computer, my system was blown. The system was totally crashed and had to be sent off for repair...hopefully they can repair it. During my website search at HP, I found that sometimes this camera has problems with Windows 98...so BEWARE!!

I had ordered a Fuji(1.3) before this & was very discouraged.It was hard to understand and the quality of pictures I took werent good at all.So I returned it,thinking maybe all lower priced Digital cameras were like that.But,then I saw the HP 318 with 2.3 megapixels,Decided to try it. I am glad I did.It is an easy Point&shoot camera.When I loaded them onto my computer,I could not believe the quality of the pictures.I highly recommend this camera,for its price,easiness to use and picture quality.

The hp 318 is one of the simpelest cameras I have ever used the software is easy to install and from the verry first its photoes were sharp and colores good to exelent with the software you can allso change photos to your likeing I would recomend this camera to anyone who wants A point and shoot camera that can allso be used to print 8x10 or smaller and get allmost the same results as profesinals do but remember your results will depend on your computer and printer being used I was disepionted recently while visiting A friend and trying to get good photos from his small computer and cheeper non photo printer

This is my first digital camera-in fact, Im a novice at all computer-related stuff. So I needed something easy to operate, but good quality. This camera is excellent. It has great resolution, is very user-friendly. The instructions are clear. It is so simple to operate & the view screen is especially beneficial to those of us eager to see the results of our first photo attempts. It adapts to computer loading well & again, the step by step instructions help even beginners create & e-mail super pictures.

I bought this camera in Dec.2001. It really is the best you can buy not just for the price but also for the quality, easyness of use and features. The software that comes with it is also quite user friendly. 2.1 megapixels is more than enough for the "novice" user and beats much higher priced cameras with less features. I highly recommend this camera.

I received my camera as a gift. I confess, Id been hinting around about another, more expensive camera, but once I started taking pictures with the HP, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and functionality. The picture resolution is fine, the camera is uncomplicated, and the software (included) is functional and easy-to-use. If youre looking for a simple, afordable digital camera for personal use, youll find the HP Photosmart 318 has everything you need.

This was my first digital camera and what a disappointment. Every time I took a picture of people I kept getting RED EYE. This camera even had a a RED EYE reduction button, but it did not work. I can not wait to take this back to the store. I guess Ill stick with the regular camera!

I just bought this camera for my wife and she loves it. I must say that I was impressed by the pictures it takes. It takes great pictures for e-mailing and downloading. I havent had the chance to get any prints done yet so Im not sure how they will look on paper, but on the screen they look great. This camera is very user friendly as well. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

This camera is an excellent deal for its price, TAKE MY WORD FOR IT!!! Just over the summer I bought a (dollar amount) Samsung video camcorder and it was the best i ever had! So just because this camera is low priced, dont think it isnt better than some (dollar amount) ones!!

I bought this camera at Target about a month ago and am really impressed with the picture quality. The resolution is 1792 by 1200 pixels and looks great. The only thing i dont like about it is that it takes about 5 seconds to process the photo before you can take another one. The small screen is also terrible to see in the sun so you have to use the regular viewer. But overall, for a nice camera to snapshot things with its a winner.
