Great speakers for finished basement     On: 2008-06-02

I recently installed a few sets of these Polk speakers into our basement. One set was used in a drywalled-ceiling (in a gym) and another set was used with a drop ceiling (Armstrong 24"x24" Brighton Ceiling Panels, sold at Lowes) in the main room of our basement. The speakers were pretty easy to install in both settings and work well. I have them hooked up to a stereo for music only...no surround sound off of them.

For the drop ceiling, I would recommend these steps for a smooth install:
1) Use the included template to draw the circle on the back (gray) side of the ceiling tile.
2) I used a Dremel cutting tool to cut out the circle. Dont cut on the line, cut on the outside of the line. If you cut on the line exactly, the circle will be a shade too small and wont hold the speaker properly.
3) Once the circle is cut, put the speaker in the hole and use a screwdriver to secure it in place.
4) If you ran more than enough speaker wire, hook it up to the speaker and then put your ceiling tile back into the ceiling grid. All done!

The ceiling tiles do a great job of holding the speaker in place, with no signs of the speaker being too heavy. I didnt see the need to go purchase a special bracket that some of the other reviewers have recommended.

One more tip: at first, I didnt quite follow how the clips on the speaker were supposed to secure it to the ceiling. I kept turning the screws and didnt think I was making any progress. Id recommend doing a practice run on just one of the clips. Dont put it in the ceiling, but use the screwdriver, and see what moves when you turn the screw. It will help you visualize how the clips work. Basically, theres a lot of turning involved to secure it to the ceiling...so dont give up!
Great speakers     On: 2008-05-14

We needed 3 pairs of speakers for our home. I wasnt sure whether they would work for the entire house so I bought one pair to test in the dining room. I tested them before installing and in most cases, the bass was still great. Once installed, the sound was perfect. For the money, you cant go wrong. Great sound quality with all types of music and works great with my 7 year old Sony 5.1 100w/channel receiver. Installation was pretty simple in our drywall ceiling.
I am going to order 2 more sets to install in the other rooms.
Sound great for the price - well constructed     On: 2008-04-28

We were surprised that in-wall speakers could sound so good. Installation was a breeze and we will probably use more units in other rooms now. It was nice to find a good solution that met with the aesthetics committee approval so easily.
POLK AUDIO DOES IT AGAIN     On: 2008-04-28

POLK AUDIO DOES IT AGAIN! THEY ARE A GREAT ADD ON TO MY 7.1 SURROUND SOUND. THEY ARE FOR THE REAR LEFT AND RIGHT IN THE CEILING. NICE HIGHS AND MIDRANGE WITH OK BASS. THE SUB-WOOFER FROM POLK TAKES UP THE SLACK FOR BASS. EASY TO INSTALL WITH CUT RUN WIRES..INSERT AND DONE

Man-Cave Installation     On: 2008-03-27

Opened the box ... read the simple instructions ... cut the hole ... ran the wires ... attached the speakers ... connected the wires to the amplifier at the other end ... DONE!

As adveritized ... EASY-PEASY!
GREAT!!!     On: 2008-03-25

These are installed in my bathroom. I LOVE them. The sound is fantastic. Rich, deep bass, crisp highs. If your not sure if you should buy these, well all I can say is buy them.
Great Speakers!     On: 2008-02-09

These are a great set of speakers and were easy to install. The provided templates were excellent and made the install even easier. The face plates were a little difficult to remove sinc you do not want to damage them, but once I figured out to just try to pull them out slowly and a little at a time, the other speaker was a breeze. Next time they should just leave them unassembled so you dont have to perform this step.

Again, the are great speakers and they look great for any surround sound system. They fit flush to the wall or ceiling and many have thought they were just recessed lighting.
Solid sound, great value for surrounds / whole house audio     On: 2008-01-21

I am using 4 of these speakers in my theater as surround and rear speakers. I am a perectionist when it comes to sound in my theater, but the fact is that the fidelity requirements for surround / rear speakers are pretty minimal. These speakers are plenty large for the task (in all but the largest rooms) and Id give them a 7/10 for sound quality. We spray painted the grills on ours to match the ceiling color and they blend in perfectly. I have also used these speakers in whole house audio applications with good results. Very good value overall.
Excellent!     On: 2008-01-19

Great speakers at a phenomenal price. Installed in just about 10 minutes and they sound spectacular. Great highs and mids, decent bass for its size. I bought two sets, one for the kitchen we are remodeling and another for the living room. Would recommend these to anyone!
Polk never disappoints!     On: 2008-01-02

Bought as ceiling surround-rear drivers for a 7.1 home theater. Very good timbre for such a price point. Good match for Polks RTi series. Be careful removing the steel grilles. DO NOT do what Polk suggests by using a paper clip. I did and spent time with a body-buck and hammer flattening out the distortion the paper clip caused. You might as well use an axe! There are four clamp-screws that need to be accessed from the front. Use these four screws to gently push the grill out from behind. Once you get the grill out a quarter-inch, you can peel it out the rest of the way from the front. Hope this prevents the a little aggravation. Buy these speakers.
Great sounding In-Ceilings     On: 2007-12-27

I bought 2 pairs of Polks for in ceiling stereo use over my bar area I am building in the basement. Im a first time Polk buyer and in ceiling user and I am impressed at the audio quality. I am also using the other pair as the back surrounds in a 7.1 home theater system. Polk has a huge following in the AV forums so I was confident these would work for me. I also listened to them in the electronics store prior to buying through Amazon. To maximize the sound quality, Polk recommends you place a modest amount of a sound absorbing material, such as Polyfil (a synthetic cotton-like material found at craft/fabric stores) inside the cavity before installing the speakers. This will absorb the rear moving sound wave and reduce mid range coloration. I havent done that yet and they still sound great!

Great for the price; just don't play them too loud     On: 2007-10-30

For the low price of under $100, these are superb for a single purpose. For us, that purpose is soft, quiet background music in a formal dining room that is not used very often. If you intend to play louder or try to fill a room or section of your house, these speakers will not do well. They get muddy at higher volumes and do not have good bass.

But, for a small space where you only need background music, these cant be beat for the price. Once your hole is cut, these install easily. Cutting the hole is a project in and of itself. Be careful!
Speaker review     On: 2007-10-19

I have purchased these speakers for my home cinema for surround sound. They sound fantastic and can take a lot of input power. The only drawback is the difficulty to mount them on a ceiling (badly explained in the manual).
Great product, but what do you expect from Polk Audio!     On: 2007-09-28

Just got this installed last week. The speakers have a neat little clip for easy mounting in a drywall ceiling. The templates provided are accurate and easy to use. Took about ten minutes each to install. I spent much more time running the wires through my attic, but I obviously cannot blame that on the speakers. Now that they are installed, all I can say is wow. The sound is crisp and clear. The aimable tweeters gives you a lot more flexibility in your mounting location. As with any speaker, sound is a matter of personal preference. I have noticed that these speakers seem to impress people that are a little older (like mid 30s and up) more than the younger crowd. I suspect it is because the younger ears can hear the higher frequencies better. I have always enjoyed the crisp highs that I have gotten from Polk Audio. Once again they have been able to impress me.
Great Product     On: 2007-08-06

The Polk Audio RC60i speakers are great sounding and easy to install. Good bass response and will probably buy another pair in the future, highly recommended..
Great rear surround speakers     On: 2007-03-20

After purchasing the Polk RC65i speakers as my side surround speakers, I had to go with these as the rear surrounds on my 7.1 system. I have not been disappointed for one minute.

Terrific value and very good sound.
Easy installation, sounds great, seamless with wall     On: 2007-03-02

The package includes a very useful template for installation and painting. I used a spray gun to paint the grill and the speakers are virtually seamless with the wall. Two of these speakers were used as rear channels for our surround sound system. The tweaters were simple to point downward to direct sound towards the seating area. Sound quality is very good. It would be nice if they offered a 4" version.
Great buy!     On: 2007-01-19

I shopped around for similar speakers at local shops and places like Best Buy and Circuit City. All others were way over priced. The Polks were a great buy. I use them as the rear speakers in a surround sound. They sound great. The speakers come with a cutout template and a template to mask the speakers if you want to paint them. They were very easy to install. A very nicely designed speaker. Im very glad I purchased them from Amazon.
Good Price, Great sound...     On: 2007-01-19

I mounted these in my ceiling just behind my sofa. I intended these to just be rear channel speakers, but I they sounded good enough that I am sending my stereo through them now.

Installation was simple and I had them out of the box and playing music in under 20 minutes. The biggest hassel was cutting the hole and trying to avoid the insulation!

I am considering buying another pair to put on the back patio and would recommend these to even my best friends.
Great Speakers at a good price     On: 2005-09-06

We installed these in our master bedroom and bath; sound is awesome. We also painted the speakers to match the walls - the blend right in.
