It works, install easily and doesnt give a problem. Push it and it will fade at higher volumes, but as an inwall its a good performer. Keep it in a 1-1.5 cuft. environment and youll be even happier you bought it. Whether bringing up the rear or working as a front or mid speaker..with a good receiver, properly tuned and a good sub, its a piece of cake. Itll return on its investment you can be sure. OK quality of the speaker itself, but the installation method is horrible. The little screw locks are poorly designed. There should have been longer screws or something to keep the wall/screw locks from falling off inside the wall. Once you install the speaker there is no going back, you can not manuver the screw locks into a position to take the speaker out of the wall. I would research other speakers to find ones with a better thought out installation process. On: 2008-03-28
I installed these speakers as rear surround speakers. Installation was easy with the included templates to size the holes. They sound great and well worth the money! On: 2008-02-08
Great for surrounds. be very careful when tightening the clips that hold the speakers in place, they crack very easily. Otherwize nice for surrounds. I had a couple tight spots to put them in so i couldnt use TC265is that i have for my other speakers so these are for surround and work nicely. On: 2007-11-08
Theyre great speakers. Wonderful sound. Theyre driven by an Onkyo TXSR605 receiver, and the combination is perfect. Im not an audiophile, just someone who wanted to build a nice theater.
My only complaint, which is very minor, is that the tabs on these speakers are not as good as the ones on comparable Bose flush-mount speakers. The tabs on Bose speakers that I installed 2 years ago positioned themselves and held the speaker against the drywall perfectly. These tabs have a tendency to "catch" on the speaker housing, and then they never squeeze the drywall. When you install these, make sure every tab is free and clear before you tighten any of the screws. Otherwise you may get 3 or 4 of the screws tightened down and realize that 4th or 5th tab is messed up, and youll have to start over. You might want to "help" the tabs get into position with a flathead screwdriver or a butter knife while you screw them in. Once you get them positioned and tightened down, the speaker is solid and doesnt vibrate or move or anything. On: 2007-01-19
Good sound quality for the price. You get what you pay for and these speakers were worth the price. On: 2006-08-07
Polk Audio is one of the leading speaker manufacturers in the world. They have been for decades. The only way the speakers could possibly sound muddy is if the system you hooked up to is inferior, or the speakers are not hooked up properly to your receiver or the components are not connected properly. There are many receivers these days that have secondary hookups for the audio components that do not give the true sound intended. You just need to make sure you are hooking up to all the main inputs. I have these speakers hooked up in my Master Suite bedroom where the wiring is coming from my basement theater. They sound Awesome installed in my ceiling rather than the wall. Hope this helps! On: 2006-03-28
For the price I would not recommend purchasing the Polk RC55i speakers. They do not deliver the the degree of brillance one would expect in speakers in this price range. The tones, at best, are muddy.
