To tell you the truth, Ive had this unit for a while and have been thinking seriously about getting something a bit better. The sound quality is great except for one problem; I have a terrible time trying to hear the voices while watching movies. As I live in an apartment I cannot turn my sound up too high. And when the sound is at a general listening level the ambient music and soundtrack dominates my ears. In Amazons product description I read about a dialogue enhancement but have yet to find it. Another gripe is that I am unable to hook this system up to my cable television so when watching normal TV the sound is coming through my TVs speakers( atleast i am unable to hook it up?!? ). The disc changer itself is also quite loud and takes awhile to switch discs, a few times it sounded as if my disc was stuck, which is just the way it sounds I guess. Given this system is a few years old now, and there is far better systems out including DTS other high-end components. Id say its a good buy for a budget minded movie lover looking to get a surround system. by: Anonymous On: 2005-07-26
This is a renamed and slightly tweaked SC-AK600 which has been around since 2002. Buyer beware: My AK600 conked out on me after two years of very gentle usage. Every time the unit powers on I get an F61 error message, which means a faulty or shorted out power supply. Panasonic wont fix it and they wont reply to any of my emails or correspondence. Check them out for yourselves with the Better Business Bureau - Panasonic has an "Unsatisfactory" rating based on excessive UNRESOLVED product quality and repair complaints. Also, do a google search on F61 errors with the AK600 and the SC-DK10 (2004s version of the AK600/DK20) and youll see literally hundreds of complaints that their amplifiers blew out after about the same amount of time. They took mine and countless others money for this garbage and now they wont stand behind their product when it is through their own fault that it is broken. Be forewarned...dont be fooled by the units look, sound quality and features, because underneath it is an old (from at least 2002), cheaply produced product sold at a high price and masquerading under a supposedly "reputable" brand name. Look elsewhere and avoid Panasonics products. On: 2003-11-12
I had higher expectations I guess. The MP3 support is the main reason I bought this product but Ive come to find that it is impossible to navigate MP3 CDs without the stereo being attached to a television in order and even then its a pain to go through. I also underestimated my want of hearing everything aside from the DvDs Im viewing through stereo which you wont as theres no input into this machine. It is pretty though and sounds lovely, its just not very usefull for the amount of money I invested in it. On: 2003-01-21
My father bought this system last week.Wow. Its the best system on the market. You can listen your movie by believing you in movie. Dolby digital is excellent. 6 speakers (6.1) for a big total of 340 watts. The subwoofer put your house in an earthquake. The pp.mica woofer technology is excellente for reproduce a thunder sound with no distorsion. Many options (clear-vocal-soft and...) Movie equalizer and manual Eq who allows choosing type of your sound quality. The subwoofer switch is good for choosing the bass power (off-mid and max). PROS: Small unit and powerful sound : DVD player, mp3,cd, cd/rw.... : beautifull desing and subwoofer (150 watts/7 inch) include Very clear sound with pp mica woofer CONS : The cd charger is slow and does a little noise and it takes a little time to see the type of Cd use. :Price (1200$ canadian) In spite of this small cons, this system is the best to listen the music and movie. This is a very unique system. In addition to being a good bookshelf stereo system, it functions as a DVD player with a built-in Dolby Digital 5.1 decoder. I wouldnt recommend making this your primary home theater device, but in a second smaller room its terrific. Rear channels are crisp and clear, and my son loves watching his movies now. Subwoofer has decent rumble. As an added bonus, you get MP3 support. The MP3 support seems quite good; it took VBR and 320kb/s CBR files without a hitch, on both CD-R and CD-RW media. My only complaint is that if you have another digital source (like, say, a Playstation 2 or Xbox) you cant connect them up to get digital surround. You can, however, hook up an analog source (like a VCR) and get Dolby Pro-Logic, which is better than a poke in the eye. Weve had it now for some time and its had no issues. Highly recommended. --chris
