At first I thought I had a winner, but guess what happened; I copied about 150 DVDs (legally). They played beautifully when I first made them. I put them in cases, set them in a room out of the sun, happy that I had a great DVD library. My mistake, I just tried to play one and it rejected the CD. So, I tried several more. None of the DVDs I made work. It isnt the machine, it plays professional DVDs, but not all of them. Sometimes I have to go to my other DVD in another room and play the DVD there.
I have no idea what the problem is, but it may be cheap materials used to make the recording, and these materials fade quickly.
The people at go video make it almost impossible to talk to them, and there is NO customer support, at all. Dont think those of us who are trying to warn you just got a "lemon". That isnt the case. Purchasing a Go Video is a huge mistake. Dont do it. On: 2005-04-23
This vcr/dvd player is the only one that has lasted this long. I have 4 boys under 10 and they are a little rough on things. Ours finally died when three dvds were put in at once. This is after several "repairs" by mom. It has been great and put up with loads of abuse. We tried two other players and neither would work with our television. So we are going to order this same exact one. Why mess with what works! I am just really impressed with this player. Also, when our remote was lost, we contacted the company to get a new one and they were very promt in getting back to us on how to re-order it. I would definatly recomend this player. Its easy to set up and work, works with older t.v.s, puts up with tons of abuse and can be easily connected to a sound system. On: 2005-01-26
My wife bought this for me a couple of years ago. The first one failed as a DVD player basically out of the box and the store replaced it. The 2nd unit took somewhat longer to fail. Shipped it off to Go-Video and they "repaired" it. It worked for a brief period before it quit. I gave up and quit even trying to use it as anything more than a VCR. by: Anonymous On: 2003-12-06
We have had this player for a year now, and are very satisfied with its performance. its is VERY easy to use and we especially like the "lock" feature to keep the kids from messing with it.Id buy another one as a gift. by: Anonymous On: 2003-08-28
I just recently bought this DVD/VCR player. It was very easy to set up and play, but right from the get-go I noticed that the dvd picture looked a bit stretched(elongated). Im a huge fan of widescreen dvds and didnt like the look of the picture. The reason I noticed it was that I also have a SONY dvd player and compared the pictures. The bars of the GV player are thinner than the bars of the SONY showing that the picture is indeed elongated. The picture and people just looked more natural with the SONY player, but those without comparison might not notice the difference. It depends on what you are used to.Also another thing I REALLY, REALLY dont like about the machine is the remote control. The search and skip button are the exact same button!! So if I want to fast forward/scan a little bit I accidentally skip to the next scene instead. Its very frustrating. And for those that are planning to record DVDs to VHS, dont hold your breath. You can only record DVDs that dont have Macrovision(some type of anti-recording protection) and most original DVDs will have it. Ive also tried a CD-R and it didnt recognize it even though GV says it will play CD-Rs. I have no complaints about the VCR. It works great. Basically, you get what you pay for. This is a low price machine and you cant expect it to be exceptional. If you just want to watch a movie and dont care about the look or anything else and want to save space, go ahead and buy it. Otherwise, I would recommend just buying separate players. p.s. I am not endorsing the SONY player. DO NOT buy SONY DVD players. They have different sets of problems all their own plus a court case against them. Check the web for those reviews if you dont believe me. Just dont do it. by: Anonymous On: 2003-08-01
It plays DVDs and VHS tapes, just what I was looking for. I definitely got my moneys worth. by: Anonymous On: 2003-07-28
I WAS NOT FAMILIAR WITH GOVIDEO AND I TOOK A CHANCE IN PURCHASING A DVD/VHS PLAYER DV2130. MY FIRST DISATISFACTION WAS UPON OPENING THE BOX AND SEEING THE PAPER THAT SAYS DO NOT RETURN TO THE PLACE OF PURCHASE BUT CALL OR EMAIL GOVIDEO. BUT I WAS CONFIDENT THAT ALL WOULD BE WELL. I HAVE PLAYED ONLY TWO VHS TAPES IN MY NEW PLAYER WHICH I PURCHASED ONLY 4 DAYS AGO AND THE THING COULD HAVE BURNED MY HOUSE DOWN FROM THE EXTREME HEAT IT PRODUCED. I HAVE EMAILED BECAUSE THE SUPPORT LINES ARE CLOSED ON WEEKENDS. I WILL RAISE EXTREME PROBLEMS IF MY MACHINE IS NOT REPLACED. I WILL LET YOU KNOW MY RESULTS. FROM THE OTHER REVIEWS I SAY "DONT" GOVIDEO. GO TO NAME YOU KNOW AND TRUST. AND A STORE THAT WILL TAKE THE PRODUCT BACK. by: Anonymous On: 2003-05-20
I bought this player about 6 month ago. It worked great at first but now the dvd portion skips and wont play sometimes. the vcr portion has horrible tracking problems and at one point quit working all together. Most of the time it auto tracks constanty and messes up the image. If I had it to do over I would not buy this player. On: 2003-04-24
This is a great piece of equipment. My last DVD player was very loud, you could hear the turntable turning while the movie played. But this machine is quiet and is exactly as described by Amazon. The operations and setup are simple. It took all of five minutes before I had a movie playing. Fabulous! by: Anonymous On: 2003-03-23
GO-VIDEO JUST FILED FOR BANCKRUPTCY. STAY AWAY. by: Anonymous On: 2003-03-21
THIS UNIT IS TERRIBLE. THE RESOLUTION OF THE DVD PLAYER IS POOR AND THE PLAY BACK QUALITY OF THE VCR STINKS. GO WITH ANY MAJOR JAPANESE BRAND AND STAY AWAY FROM GO-VIDEO. On: 2003-03-10
GoVideo is making a name for itself. My friend has this combo DVD/VCR unit and it works pretty well from what I saw. The DVD side looked good and functioned well. You get the standard DVD options that you get on most units. The VCR records and plays back in HiFi. Most pre-recorded tapes looked good. Recorded pictures on this unit looked good too. The picture looked good for VHS. VHS is VHS, what else can you say. It has A/V inputs and is programmable with on-screen features. You really cant go wrong at this price. It is very affordable and a nice compact unit. On: 2003-02-17
This product simplifies some of your A/V issues (fewer cables to hook up and one less item to stack in the entertainment center), but wait for a better version to come out from a company that knows what theyre doing.Problems: DVD playback has digital glitches - blackspots and blurs, jumps in dialog. DVD/CD play has background flutter noise - the discs dont spin noiselessly....not great during quiet movies. CD playback doesnt have much functionality. Play/stop, thats it. No random, continuous play, or other functions youd expect from a CD player. $ is cheap, but wait until a better-known company launches a product... On: 2003-02-06
This was a Christmas present for my 2 daughters. Thinking it would be perfect because it played both vhs and dvd movies. Dont let the low or sales prices fool you! It is so noisy when it is playing. Its high pitch noice is so loud, I can even hear it in another room. My daughters refuse to watch it. ... To say the least I am very disappointed in this product. On: 2003-02-04
I know its not the best DVD player on the market but for this price range, you cant go wrong with this unit. Ive owned 3 DVD players now (under $$$ and this one has been my favorite. Its simple to hook-up, sounds great with a good A/V receiver, and is very simple to use. Are there better DVD/VHS players out there? Of couse! But in the under $$$ range, this one reigns supreme. The only reason I didnt go with 5 stars is that I feel the instructions are very sparse and a novice may get confused figuring out how to best hook the unit up for best performance. With that said, this unit is as advertised and well worth the price. On: 2003-01-28
For the price, this is a good DVD/VHS player. Very easy to install and just as easy to use. Simple instructions, good remote control. Im very pleased with the unit. On: 2003-01-02
The DVD/CD player is a bad buy. The sound amplifier on the DVD player does not work. The nearest "authorized" repair shop is an hours drive away from where I live. I do not recommend this product or manufacturer to anyone. On: 2002-12-16
i bought this as a gift. The person that i gave it to just loves it On: 2002-12-02
My daughter is the *very happy* recipient of this dual deck. She is not exactly an electronics wizard, but she called to say thanks and just bubbled over about how "simple" it was to connect ("really, Dad, I just plugged it in and connected 1 wire and my roommates and I said it cant be that simple but we turned it on and it was like working great"!). She said the remote was "smooth" and the picture quality was "awesome". She also raved about the audio volume the CD player was able to produce and she was "wowed" by its ability to produce this volume cleanly while playing MP3s, ergo becoming, I am informed, the new music center for her dorm room. Anyway, she should remain happy, as GoVideo (& now SONICblue) has been around for quite a while, producing the first dual VCR decks (mostly for copying tapes that were [of course] not copyrighted, such as personal videos) more than a decade ago and since then having greatly expanded their product line, all the while maintaining a pretty good reputation for quality and service and an excellent track record for high value electronics. This Item was exactly as promised and was shipped very fast. I am very happy with this purchase. I found them helpful, and quick to respond to communication. Item was as described in add. Will definately buy from them at next oppotunity possible. On: 2002-09-21
Ordered one USED and quickly realized that the other Amazon reviews were probably written by folks that did the most basic connection you could do (coax in...coax out). If you have a halfway decent home theatre system and utilize the dedicated DVD and VCR RCA audio outputs using good quality cables (Monster cables or other gold tipped audio cables), the audio is great. Dolby Digital is fantastic and the onboard menu allows you to configure for several different variations. Easy setup (less than 10 minutes), easy to use, on screen menus are easy to navigate, plays MP3s, great picture, great sound!! If you want to get an inexpensive unit that will handle DVD and VHS plus also play MP3s (!!!), get one of these!!! On: 2002-09-05
The DVD player in this dual deck is OK, on a par with lower-end budget players. The VCR in this deck is OK, on a par with lower-end budget VCRs. So far, so fair.BUT the recorder wont record any DVD that is Macrovision encoded (which is most of them), so dont expect to use this as a one stop way to record your DVDs. The DVD player also doesnt play VCDs or SVCDs. So it has basic functionality, but little more. Overall, this is useful for those who want both a DVD player and a VCR, and who want to save a bit of space. But at the price you could purchase a better DVD player and a better VCR separately. So this only makes sense for those who need to save the space. David by: Anonymous On: 2002-09-05
The audio is horrible and I have returned this product. The manufacturer has informed me that I received a defective product. The customer service is horrible as well. They bounce you around from number to number. On: 2002-09-04

I PURCHASED THIS UNIT AND HAVE EMAILED THE MANUFACTURER TWICE (WITH NO REPLY) COMPLAINING ABOUT THE FACT THAT THE SOUND VOLUME ON DVD PLAYBACK IS ALMOST INAUDIBLE! by: Anonymous On: 2002-08-05
i loved the way this unit looked and perceivable quality of it as well. it is also very easy to use. good instructions manual, remote, and very clear display. i liked this unit very much. but, i returned it for these reasons: dvd player does not produce as great of a sound and picture as other dvd players do in the under [$$$] range. also, the onscreen menu has very small font. it is very difficult to distinguish letters sitting about 10 feet away from tv.
