Broken After 12 Months     On: 2005-06-23

Anyone who rated this product well hasnt owned the unit for more than 6 monnths. Mine started skiping after 6 months. I thought it was just dirty. Now 12 months later, it wont play DVDs at all. Truly a piece of junk.
Junk plus     On: 2005-05-06

I bought this Broksonic model 810 a year ago and recently the dvd part reads incorrect disc. I tried to locate a service manual to fix it but can,t find a web site for this company. You get what you pay for????
Don't Buy this if you value your tapes.     On: 2005-04-25

I bought this based upon reviews I read at Amazon.com. At first it seemed to work all right. Then it seemed to have proplems recording on tape; so I thought maybe it was because the tapes were longer than normal. Now it is chewing up tapes I bought through Amazon.com.

A definite turkey. Maybe it is impossible to expect one machine to do two functions.
dvd does not work     On: 2005-03-26

As one previous review stated the DVD reads all DVDs as "incorrect disc" after about 4 months. This review was right on the money for mine does the same. Do not purchase this unit unless you are using it for a store prop.

Unless there is a cure for this by the manufacturer please save your self the aggravation of your spouse yelling at you because you bought cheap!!
DVD Fault Seems To Be Common Problem     On: 2005-02-02

I live in the U.K. This item was reduced from £120 (approx $225) to £70 ($131).
At first, I loved it. Easy to use, program and understand and as it was a combined unit, I got rid of some wires and found some space. But then..........

This machine is locked to Region 2, which is the region for the U.K. It will not play anything else, apart from shop bought dvds. The machine does not allow the dvds to be copied by the video part of the machine, which I have found out recently that the higher priced, branded products can do.

A few days ago, the machine started taking a long time to read the dvd disc, as it was loading. All of a sudden, it displays incorrect disc, even though the discs I am trying to play have played in the machine previously and are region 2, where I live.

I cannot play ANY disc on this machine. Since the machine has failed me, I have looked for hints and tips on the net, to see if this problem can be remedied, but the more I look, the more it seems to be a common problem with the BROKSONIC DVCR 810 that the DVD packs up after 4-6 months.

Can anyone help me with this problem ?

If the dvd hadnt stopped working, I would have given this machine 4/5. the reason being that it has always been a bit noisy when reading discs.

Good Luck if you go for one of these. If you get a good one, youre laughing.

I cannot find a Broksonic Homepage ANYWHERE on the net to get advice or help !!

Thank you very much !!
Not a good product     On: 2004-12-27

The product is cheap in price and the old motto proves right once again - get what you pay for. DVD player skips, poor quality on the VHS playback. Worked great for about 3 months then the problems surfaced. Very poor quality
VCR Stopped Working after 4 months     On: 2004-09-27

DVD still works, but VCR only plays static like the tracking is broken. Avoid this unit.
Broke is a good name for it.     On: 2004-08-27

I purchased this product back in Febrary 2004. It worked fine for about 6 months and then the DVD player started acting up. It will stop, pause, or eject the disk for no reason at all, not just rental dvds but brand new ones as well. If you plan on using Video CDs, do not buy this unit as it will not read them. It also has a problem reading certain brands of DVD-Rs. The VCR works fine, but I can not recommend this product because of the DVD player problems.

"Broke" sonic

After reading the glowing reviews about this product, I, too, bought this player. Now after only 7 months use, the the DVD player starts and stops, stutters every few seconds. None of my (newly purchased from Amazon) DVDs will now play all the way through without this truly aggravating display.
great product

We had a Sylvania combo VCR/DVD and decided to replace it because was a POS for so many reasons. We researched several combo VCR/DVD units (Sony, JVC, Panasonic, Samsung). Only the Broksonic and the high end (expensive) Sony and JVC were getting good reviews. We have been very pleased with the Broksonic. Plays DVDs that our old DVD player would not. VCR works ok. Sound and video are great. Easy to program VCR. Remote control button layout is a little scattered but ok. MP3 player sounds great. Song titles are shown on TV but there is not enough room for long titles.
Price is right:)     On: 2003-12-27

I am horrible at buying gifts. Last year I bought my mother a DVD player that she used about 3 times and complained about for the rest of the year because she couldnt work it. This was a perfect choice for her.
This Broksonic DVD/VCR is so easy to use. If you arent familiar with all those red/yellow/white cables and what to do with them. This one can plug directly into cable ready tvs with a normal tv cable. That was something I didnt think of when buying it. Id only read the reviews that it worked well. The ease of installation as well as operation makes this perfect for anyone. It is the perfect addition for those that arent electronics savvy or just want one unit instead of two.

Its got a good clear picture and easy to read remote and menus.
As someone else mentioned this would be great for your childrens dvds.

For the price its a good buy. Its a basic system without a lot of the extras the others have but it works well.

BEWARE     On: 2003-11-09

I liked this DVD/VHS player at first, but I have just started to realize in the past 2 or 3 weeks that it has started to scratch my DVDs. Just bought a brand new DVD yesterday and its already scratched up.
A Winner     On: 2003-08-09

I read the reviews of other people that own this unit. Went to
my local Circuit City store (Lincoln,Ne) and got two. They worked
great, play back on all modes was super, very easy to operate/
install. If you are look for a good vcr/cd combo this is a good
bet.
SKEPTICLE, yet took the GAMBLE!     On: 2003-07-10

I needed a combo VCR/DVD because of my extensive Disney VHS movie collection I accumulated while growing up. Now my daughter watches these movies. I was tired of going back and forth from DVD to VCR-because the DVD player was in the living room, while the VCR was in her room. She has some Scooby movies that are on DVD and it seemed she always wanted to watch them while I was watching something on our t.v. in the living room. So I went on a mission to get a combination and move the DVD player to her room and as parents we could have the combo in the living room--only these combos were SO EXPENSIVE! The cheapest I found was an EMERSON and I have had problems with EMERSON products in the past so I opted not to drop [money] on it. I wanted the SONY, yet it was [money]. Yikes! Just when I was about to give up I just so happened to pass by a box that had this BROKSONIC combo inside. I had never heard of it ... I was skeptical-especially when I saw it was only [money]! I said what the heck and got it ... I am very pleased with it. You cannot beat [money] for both. It does rewind a little slow, but I think that is because DVDs are so convenient to stop and play where you want them-whereas a VHS you have to wait, and wait, and wait! GREAT BUY! GO FOR IT!!!!!
Great DVD/VCR Combo - even better price     On: 2003-06-25

I bought this at Circuit City for $... with a $... mail in rebate. I figured it is worth $... for either one of the functions, not to mention both. The remote control is nicely laid out and easy to use. The VCRs record and playback quaility is excellent. The only complaint I have with the VCR is that when setting up a timed recording, you cannot use the number keypad to select the channel, you have to use a plus and minus key to sequentially go up or down. Other than that it is perfect. The DVD player also has excellent picture quailty and the zoom works great too. It allows me to push the skip button to avoid the long wait times for the copyright screen, etc. It also keeps track where I left off if I have to stop the movie and even power off. If you eject it will loose its place however. It doesnt skip on any of my scratched DVDs like my old player did. Im very pleased with the product and would recommend to anyone even if price was more.
I love this thing!     On: 2003-04-08

DVD & VCR - the best of both worlds. This makes my life much simpler - fewer wires, takes up less space, and provides me with quality visual. Costs less than most DVD players and helped me upgrade from a really old VCR system. I dont have to switch back and forth between DVD & VCR viewing systems like most of my friends - and I dont have to keep another remote laying around the living room!

If youre not familiar with Broksonic, you should definitely give this guy a chance. You cant beat the quality for the price.

This is worth the gamble     On: 2003-01-02

I returned a Panasonic PV-4752 and purchased this unit at CC.
First, the VCR loads the tapes, the PV-4752 didnt.
Second, it may not have all the features of units priced more, but it does the job eg. surround sound effects. Third, the VCR will play LP recorded tapes, but wont record at that speed. Fourth, consider the service contract option. My opinion is that you take your chances with these units, ie, the manufacturers had to scrimp somewhere to meet profit margins. Quality control is probably one of them. Good luck with your ultimate choice.
