Three times I have contacted the supplier and I never have receive a response. The camera received was broken and I demand a reimbursement or a new product. by: Anonymous On: 2007-06-04
I RECEIVED THE CAMERA AND IT WAS DAMAGED WHEN I CONTACTED THEM THEY SAID THEY DID NOT HAVE ANY MORE OF THAT SPEC. ITEM BUT THEY WOULD SEND ME A RETURN SHIPPING LABEL AND THEY DID WHAT THEY SAID IT WAS GREAT SERVICE. by: Anonymous On: 2007-05-24
Well, the camera is apparently a very popular fuji brand. However, when I purchased my camera (brand new) the LCD view finder monitor didnt even work! Production on the particular item has long ceased, which makes it vertially impossible to fix or replace. So, if you want to take a coin toss chance on spending your hard earned money, be my guest. I did, and lost! by: wongdj@shinbiro.com On: 2007-05-20
Take outstanding outdoor photos. Easy to use, aim and shoot. I highly recommend the Fujifilm FinePix F401 to new users of digital cameras. by: gcmorris_leather On: 2007-05-15

I purchased my F401 from Wolf camera in the Fall of 2003. Photography is one of my hobbies and with small kids, I needed something small, and light that travelled well. The F401 was on sale for $150.00 and I jumped on it. The salesman explained that it was a discontinued model, but I got it anyway. I was so impressed with its functionality and photos. The pictures come out very clear without alot of work. They download easily to the PC, although I usually take my Smartmedia card to a CVS and print the shots there, then delete them if necessary. I purchased a larger Smartmedia card to allow for more photos.
Just this month, I pulled out the camera to use and the pictures were blurry. The colors look as if they are running. I took it to Wolf for advice and the sales rep advised me that it was problem with the lens. He said it had been dropped (no!) or crushed some way (?)! I used in on a rainy day once and I think the moisture creeped inside and destroyed the lens. It would cost more than the camera was worth to fix. However, I love this camera so much that I am searching for another one just like it. The only reason why I did not give it 5 stars is because it has been discontinued and I may have to pay more for it now than my initial purchase price. BUT YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!!!! I got this camera as a gift about 2 years ago. It was my first digital camera, so of course I was super excited and impressed (mainly because I didnt know any better). It is a cute design, compact, and sleek. But after using it for a couple of months, Id compare my pictures to other peoples pictures with different digital cameras and their pics always looked clearer and brighter. But I still liked my camera because it was a gift from a special person and I was content with the functionality of the camera. But recently, the camera all of a sudden turned red. It was like there was a really bad filter on the camera. I took it to the repair shop and they told me that it would cost $144 to fix it. Fujis repair costs are really expensive. Needless to say, Im searching for another camera (I think Ill get a Canon). All in all, its an okay camera, but you could probably get something much better at about the same price. On: 2005-03-31
Although this camera is now a bit out of date, its still an excellent buy in my opinion. I bought this over a year ago and spent a long time searching for the perfect digital camera. This one fit the bill.
Its small and light enough to be carried anywhere and the quality of the pictures are *excellent* for the size of the machine. At the time of buying, I had the choice of the larger, heavier model with higher quality pictures or this lighter one with slightly less quality. Im very pleased with the decision Ive made, and have taken 100s of beautiful pictures with this camera, and its still going strong!
The battery can be a bit fussy sometimes but has a long life and charges exceptionally well. I havent had a problem with it, or the accompanying software, as of yet.
My only complaint is that the travelling case is insufficient. It merely has a small loop to go around your neck, which is uncomfortable. Theyd do better to make a shoulder-strap for it, but then again I could easily rectify this situation by buying myself a proper carrier.
Over all, I think if youre just someone like me who appreciate small, sleek, high quality devices and just want to take some beautiful pictures then this is a very good choice for a digital camera. If, however, youre looking into professional photography or are a bit of a camera snob I dont think this will be what youre looking for, but luckily there are many great digital cameras out on the market now that would be perfect for you. Had a problem with recharging the camera (not a battery problem, defective camera). Attempted to use the warranty: after hours spent on the phone with unhelpful Fuji staff, after months of waiting, after Fuji not returning the battery (took 6 weeks to get it back), we got a beat up refurbished camera back!!! It broke within a week!!!! Thanks for nothing, Fuji. On: 2004-12-23
I got the finepix F401 to replace an Olympus digital camera that was dropped to the floor. At first I was impressed. The camera is very easy to use, the software is very good, and downloading pictures to the computer is extremely easy. Teh small size makes it very easy to carry anywhere.
However, I soon discovered what I think is a major flaw. The camera is great for outdoor pictures, but close to useless for anything indoors. As others have mentioned, the flash is grossly inadequate. Even at 4-5 feet the pictures come out poorly illuminated. The Olympus coudo take great flash pictures at 10 feet or more, while the Fujifilm has trouble even at 4-5 feet. Using the supressed flash/strobe flash function is not a solution because you cannot hold the camera in your hand while doing so -- pictures come out blurred. The autofocus does not work well indoors, to the point that I have to try several times until the camera finally manages to focus.
I am very disappointed with this camera and surprised that Fujifilm would put out a camera with such an inadequate flash. After having spent money to get this, I am reluctant to get another camera so soon (it will certainly NOT be a Fujifilm), but I may have to. This camera is useless for even the most basic indoor pictures.
Dont waste your money -- get an Olympus instead. On: 2004-04-22
I have had this camera for almost a year and cant say enough about it. The main point would be the size, it is small enough for me to stick it in a pocket and forget I have it. As a result, I take it to many places I would have never hauled a camera before. Also, as a digital, I upgraded to a 128M card and can take almost 100 pictures. I have never run the battery out even using the flash extensively. Since I bought it in June 2003, I have taken 2245 pictures! I dont think I took that many pictures my entire life before that. In addition, these pictures are organized on my computer, posted on the web, burned on CDs and sent to parents, and printed using online services at $0.12 ea for 4"x6" prints! In short, not only do I like the digital aspect, I like the reliability and size of this specific camera. I would recommend it hands down for the people like me, that want more pictures of their friends and family and dont want to spend a fortune on film or carry a cumbersome and delicate camera. I went to Ritz(wolf) to get the F401 after seeing the price on Amazon. I had to pay tax but got some free software(Picaso) which was very good for arranging photos, etc. The cradle is handy and allows you to use the camera as a high quality webcam. At 199 it is pretty hard to beat. The telephoto is very easy to use the menu is less easy but OK. It is far better than the Olympus Digital 280 I had before. The rechargeable batteries and cradle make it very cheap and easy to operate. It also takes 90 second AVI movie clips and allows narration. The small size allows you to fit it in a shirt or jacket poctet. On: 2003-12-18
I tested 4-5 cameras and this was the easiest to use with the best photo quality. Great computer interface. On: 2003-12-05
I received my f401 just in time for the Thanksgiving Holidays. I took over 150 photos and 3 short videos and had tons of room to spare on my 128 card. The photos turned out beautiful. I do believe that the flash is a bit too low for some indoor shots of subjects not close to camera. Now that I know I can work around that problem. I used the suppressed flash and got a good shot of my husband in the dark with Christmas lights behind him. He showed up as well as the lighted decorations abt 20 ft behind him. A tripod is suggested when using this feature or sit the camera down on a good solid surface and line up the shot. It is very easy to use. The macro has given me some awesome shots. Be sure and read the manuel and learn the functions...especially the suppressed flash. My husband is very impressed and he is a 35mm man. I also got the docking station that is worth its weight in gold for this camera. Very, very happy with my Fuji f401! On: 2003-10-09
Ok. Whats the name again? Ah! Fujifilm FinePix F401 2.1MP Digital Camera w/ 3x Optical Zoom. Long name, but this digital camera will come for a long time. My pals gifted this to me a few Xmases ago (I think 2000s Xmas) and this beauty has worked wonders for me. A travel writer myself, with a name which I will reveal:Thomas Davis. Have ya heard of me? My spelling is WAY better than this display.OK OK. Back to topic time now (or rather, maybe not!). I travelled to Anchorage, London, Rome, Shanghai, Moscow, Perth, Pretoria, Brasilia, Santa Cruz, Mexico City, Seattle, Ottawa, Washington D.C, Paris, Tokyo, Auckland, Nairobi, Baghdad (OOOH! THAT ONE WAS SCARY!!), Riyadh, Dubai, Berlin, Chicago, Casablanca, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Vladivostok, Milan, Zurich, Harare and Windhoek (I AM A TRAVEL WRITER, REMEMBER) within the 3 yearss space from my home in New York City (all in order, as taken from my travel jottings) and Im travelling to Dublin this winter to see my folks in Ireland. I DO TRAVEL ONCE EVERY FEW MONTHS. Why am I talking about travel here?? Coz I have taken the Fujifilm FinePix F401 2.1MP Digital Camera w/ 3x Optical Zoom EVERYWHERE I WENT!! And I took believe it or not 2500+ photos with it alone!!!! So this camera is really high class, high priced (but worth it), cool lookiong, rugged and able to rough just about anything and everything. SO I RECCOMEND THIS CAMERA TO THE WORLD!!! ANY HOME IS INCOMPLETE WITHOUT THIS LITTLE BEAUTY!!! by: Anonymous On: 2003-08-08
Not a high megapixel camera, but very well built and very stylish. I didnt need more than 2 MPs anyway, since I dont want to deal with large files. Works super with Macs! 3x zoom is fast and accurate. A top pick for a high-quality digital camera for under three hundred bux. On: 2003-07-04
When I got the camera, it was great. It had all the functions a beginner and advanced digital photographer would need for this type of camera. The display is great and everything seems perfect. BUT about 5 months after i purchaced the camera, there was (and still is) a problem with my lens. The lens would get stuck out and it would not put itself away, and the autofocus was broken. I thougt "This will be a repair that could take no longer than a week."Well, I was WRONG. At first the dealer wanted to charge 150 bucks for a repair that would take 6-8 weeks. I then mentioned that the camera is still under the manufactures warrenty. Then they said "Oh! In that case, Fuj!F!lm usually takes between 8 and 12 weeks to repair the camera. WOW!! 2-3 MONTHS for a camera repair. I am a photograper, and my job depends on thsi camera, and i can not wait 2-3 months for it to be repaired, and i cant afford to replace it. Thanks Fuj! for [messing] up 4 vacations and my job. Dont get me wrong, this is a GREAT camera, but just dont get it broken. by: Anonymous On: 2003-01-31
i have had this camera for about 6 months and i do enjoy it. read the manual, though, you can find out all sorts of manual controls that are similar to manual cameras (if you are familiar with those) and help with the focus, low light and quick movement that would otherwise make the picture blurry. the diamond pixels make the images incredibly crisp and i have caught details on this camera that i would otherwise have never noticed. i love the fact that you can zoom in even further on the picture once you have taken it, making a close-up of a close-up. i think that this camera is better than the comparable and thinner minolta that is all the rage for the fact that the images are sharper, the zoom better and the lcd screen larger. they are the same dimensions but just the minolta is thinner. this camera makes a cool star trek noise when you turn it on, so that definately puts this camera over the top. overall, the camera is never out of my reach and girls, i even carry it in my purse. I recently purchased the fujifilm F401 camera and I say that my money isnt wasted.F401 is a compact nice looking piece of work that, for what it is, delivers very good quality pictures. I have printed 24x30 size pictures taken with this camera (setting 4Normal) and they look fine. I have tested the camera in both outdoors and indoors conditions and it has performed very well. In outdoors conditions I have got excellent results while for indoors although the photos came out nice, I have the impression that the flash is not 100% adequate. Disadvantages of the camera is that it does not have a focusing illuminator, which makes it impossible to focus in very low light conditions and that it lacks of extensive manual controls which is not usually expected for a camera of this class. When focus fails if the subject is 2-4 meters away the photo comes out ok. The usb connection and software (finepix viewer) is also well behaved. When the camera is connected with the PC a virtual disk is created on the computer containing the camera photos, like accessing a CD, which makes it easy to use any software you like to see and copy the pictures from camera to PC. Generally I would rate this camera as 90%. On: 2003-01-05
after doing some research i desided to buy the kodak dx4900 ( bad choice , poor quality and limited features for the money ) i returned the camera after only a few days . i was about to give up on digital cameras, but the salesman talked me into trying the fuji f-401 wow great camera , good pictures and a movie function. the quality appears to be good, the software downloaded without a hitch. it came with a dock - kodak wanted another 130$ bucks for theirs. give it a try im sure you will be happy On: 2002-12-30
When my wife brought the camera home I was skeptical. I grew up with 35mm SLRs by Canon and have relied on a Sony MCD-300 for the last year. I love Fuji Film and decided to give the camera a chance. For its size and unique design it became an immediate hit. We needed a camera that could capture impromptu photos without a lot of bulk. This camera provides similar results when compared to the Sony MCD-300. The Sony is still to big to fit in a pocket or purse. This camera is a must for the family that wants good quality, with minimal size and many extra photo opportunities that would go unrecorded. by: Anonymous On: 2002-12-02
Great product - highly portable, stores 180 images on a 64MB Smart Media card. Great size & price! by: Anonymous On: 2002-11-22
Great resolution and easy to use. Very happy with this camera. by: Anonymous On: 2002-10-15
This was my first digital camera purchase. I bought it because of its size and video capabilities. Two weeks into it, I am very pleased. Its easy to use, compact, and takes quality photos. However, if you plan to use the video feature, I would suggest buying an additional memory card. For the money, its the best camera available. On: 2002-08-25
There really arent many flaws with this camera. It does everything you need. The movie mode is especially useful, the e only problem being that each movie can only be 2 minuts long. . Other than that this camera is absolutely fabuolous. Get it now. Its also cute and makes cool noises. That alone is worth the [price].
