Apex GB-4308 43-Inch Projection TV
By: Apex       Average Rating: 3.0     Total Reviews: 59
More Information

not bad for the price     On: 2007-12-23

Had this tv for 4 years and I cant complain, considering how inexpensive it was. 480P is a little too dark. And the bottom inch of the screen gets cut off.

Stay away, far away.     On: 2006-12-14

I do not expect things to last forever, but when they fail they should be able to be repaired...
I guess Ive had it better than most, my Apex 43 lasted 3 years. My biggest complaint is that each time you turn on the set, you must select the input you are using. My set was connected to a cable box via a home theater system. Every time I turned on the tv I had to pick up the tv remote and push the input button 4 times. Most tvs stay on the selected input through a power-down.
My tv has failed and cant be repaired due to unavailability of parts. The TV did work great for 3 years. The picture was crisp and clear. I never used the speakers or the tuner, so I dont know how they functioned. My manual stated that the display was capable of 720P resolution. When I tuned to an HD channel on my cable box, the picture was considerably better.
The TV cost me $200 a year to own and now $110 in diagnosis/transport, only to find out that it cant be fixed. I think I will cut my losses and look for something else. My advice, Spend twice the money and be ten times as happy.
DO NOT BUY APEX PROJECTION TV!     On: 2005-11-17

I know, I know, I read the reviews but it was such a good price for such a big tv, I couldnt resist.

In the first few months we had problems with what looked like fingerprints from the inside of the screen. I could never get anybody at Apex to help by phone or web (no return calls, no live people, the one very nice woman who I did talk to couldnt find anybody in my area other than 2 companies that when I called for an appointment told me they dont work on Apex because you cant ever reach the company and its impossible to get parts)then the fingerprints just went away.

Everything was okay until the week before the warranty expires (not that the warranty is worth anything) then it just stopped working - blue screen with lines across it. Every repairman we called chastised us for buying such a bad brand and repeated the earlier response - we dont work on Apex because nobody answers the phone and you cant get parts.

Bargain hunter that I am, it takes a lot for me to say this: DONT SPEND YOUR MONEY, no matter how good the deal is on this!

Sure, it is cheap, but quality justifies the price     On: 2005-02-08

I have own one of these for about 1 year now. When I first I got it, I was really happy. a big tv for less than $600 bucks. After I used it for 1 month, it stopped working. No image. Trying to find customer service number, took forever, but finally find it somewhere hidden. Called, took forever, and got one of local authorized repair center to pick up the tv. After 2 weeks of repair, got it back. Ever since, I have little problem here and there, but still exceptable, afterall, I only pay less than $600 for this. I would not buy another Apex tv. Quality is really bad in my opionion. Out of focus in the corners, color is off, and unstable sound.
BASICALLY YOU ARE BUYING A TV FOR ONE YEAR     On: 2004-12-16

I got this tv, well the 51" GB-5108 version, (same thing), and up until today I have been extatic. Got it for 588 on a supersale last Nov, the black friday weekend. Got it delivered a few times because the first two sets werent good. After that fiasco I was pleased with a large cheap tv with a great picture quality. Now a year has gone by and the convergence has suddenly been all messed up. Based upon reviews of these tvs, this will happen on just about all of them after 6 months to a year. If it lasts more than that, you got the needle in the haystack. Get the warranty, you will need it. Expect your tv to break on a moments notice. Honestly, KNOWING that the tv will break, you are probably better off investing in a better unit. Or buy this one cheap, get a warranty and expect to fix it every few months. Your choice.
APEX - Low $$$, Big Problems - Convergence Good Luck     On: 2004-10-15

Okay, I bit the bullet and saved the $$$ ($627 at Sears but I had a $600 credit voucher from my MC so it cost me $27). This TV worked almost 10 months. (By some reviews 10 mo is long) Now the convergence is gone and the tech wont be able to get here for 3 weeks!!! Baaed on the other reviews, I will be lucky to get this TV working in the next few months... TIME TO DONATE TO CHARITY AND MOVE TO PLASMA.
Terrible Experience
by: Anonymous    On: 2004-03-26

Dont waste your time or money on this one. I ordered this set from Amazon back in Auguest of 2003 and have just now gotten Apex to refund my money. During the 7 months that Ive owned the TV, its been in the shop for 6 1/2 months. The repair shop told me that they replaced just about every board there is in the set and just cant get it to work. They also conveyed their frustration in getting APEX parts which can take a month or two to get sometimes. Overall a terrible experience, with APEX customer service giving me the run-around ever single time I called them. Wouldnt wish this on my worst enemy. Stay FAR AWAY from APEX.
Don't Bother - Get Another Brand!     On: 2004-02-24

We have had our TV for a little over a year. After the first month we had to call Apex for service, well none of their contracted centers would come to our area. So finally after a couple of weeks of back and forth and hours on hold the the store we purchased from replaced our set with an identical model. Then about 10 months after the new set will turn itself off and back on again - for no apparant reason! We did get a technician out this time, but after replacing the whole circuit board it is worse than before. Now it just turns off, and you have to turn it back on yourself! Forget trying to watch a movie, you miss half the plot turning the set back on!

I do not recommend this set to anyone! I only give it one star because they dont allow us to post negative stars!

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR     On: 2004-01-12

I SELL TVS, APPLIANCES, ETC. IN A DEPT STORE.
WE SELL THIS SET FOR $999.99 REGULARLY, $699.99 SALE.
THEY SELL AT BOTH PRICES.
HALF THE SETS ARE RETURNED (DEFECTIVE, BAD PICTURE, NOT WHAT CUSTOMER THOUGHT THEY WERE GETTING).
WE DO SELL EXTENDED WARRANTIES (2 YEAR IN HOME $80 TO 5 YEARS $250). I DONT RECOMMEND THIS SET TO ANYONE BUT IF SOMEONE WANTS IT, I DO STRONGLY RECCOMMEND GETTING AN EXTENDED WARRANTY.
PERSONNALLY, AT WHAT WE SELL IT FOR, I TELL PEOPLE TO INVEST THE MONEY ON A BETTER SET (HIGH DEF).
AS FOR APEX, THIS SET IS LISTED AS *DIGITAL* BUT DIGITAL DOES NOT MEAN HIGH-DEFINITION!!!
ON THIS SET, DIGITAL REFERS TO HOW A DVD CAN BE CONECTED TO IT. (READ THE FINE PRINT).
AS FOR THE PEOPLE WHO BUY LARGE ITEMS ON-LINE: YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.... YOU GET YOUR ITEM, BUT NO SUPPORT, NO ONE TO ASK QUESTIONS, NO ONE TO HELP.
I HAD SOMEONE BUY A SET FROM QVC THEN CALL ME FOR HELP ON DOING CONVERGENCE... MY ANSWER WAS TO CALL QVC.
MOST SALESPEOPLE ARE COMMISSION. DONT TAKE THEIR KNOWLEDGE AND GIVE THEM THE SHAFT.
Don't buy this one.     On: 2003-12-27

We made the mistake that many others did by purchasing this TV. Amazon maked it clear that they will not accept returns on projection TVs but it was too good of a deal for me to pass up. So, just remember, if even one of these reviews is right & you are stuck with a lemon, you cant send it back to Amazon. We bought ours from Amazon in August. The delivery was quick but the picture looked like an hour glass and the inside of the screen had the same handprints all over it like everyone else complains about. Good luck to anyone trying to get through to customer service. After literally several hours on the phone (thank God I have a speakerphone), we finally did get through and, yes they were cordial but just told me to call the local repair shop. The repair shop eventually came out, couldnt fix it, eventually took it back to their shop, eventually got the parts from Apex, eventually "fixed it" but after getting it back 2+ months after we first got it, the convergence still isnt right, the picture is distorted, all the buttons on the remote dont work (even when it is on TV mode), theres absolutely no difference between watching it using high-end coax cables, component cables or RCA cables. Dont waste your money on this brand... of course, if you want to buy mine...
Pretty cheapo TV, buy it for your 2 year old.
by: Anonymous    On: 2003-12-12

So I go the TV deliver, and it woundt power up. I called up Apex support, which in turn referred to me a local warranty place. I called them, and a tech came out who couldnt fix it on site, so they took it to their shop. They had it for a month and a half, waiting for parts. I finally got the TV back, and it was working, but the convergence was crappy, and picture quality is sub-par. If you fix the convergence and turn the TV off, the next time you turn it on the convergence will be off again. Save your money and invest in a 16:9 widescreen HDTV with a DVI interface, so you wont have to buy another TV in 1 year.
it's o.k.     On: 2003-11-26

My television works good although only having it a month and there is no longer green fields. and Apex customer service (if you can get through) was beating around the bush so much. I think this whole brand is a lemon. I guess you really do get what you pay for ..The sound volume is the best, very very loud..If only the customer service could be a percent of the great volume controll.it would make it better...so the moral of the story dont expect too much from the company...fix it yourself or call local its less stress in the long or short run.
Well worth the money in my humble opinion!     On: 2003-11-18

Perhaps I am speaking too soon after reading all of these terrible reviews regarding this product, but mine works like a charm. I purchased it at a local store with and extended 2 yr warranty just in case, so that I dont have to deal with Apex directly. Sound and picture are a wonderful upgrade from our little 27 in TV. DVDs and Videos play superbly. Some of the local channels are a TINY bit fuzzy, but most are awesome. I am delighted for the money. However I definately recommend purchasing your product through a reputable dealer and get an extended warranty. Considering this unit was literally HALF the price of anything else out there, the $150 extra bucks for the warranty seems worth the piece of mind it provides. Good luck!
Truly worth the buy     On: 2003-11-16

I have looked at these televisions for some time and was in search of a reasonable price (usually up to $1,000+ in most stores). I recently bought one off of this site (dispite the reviews for under $720 delivered! I am EXTREMELY satisfied with the 43", the picture is crystal clear and no flaws what so ever. I dont know about customer service-havent had to call them. The set up of this tv is relatively easy, with the exception of "training it" you have to be able to work your way throught the manual and the remote and menu to correctly set it up. I had no problem programming my remote controls. As with all remotes, none are able tocompletely control every option on every piece of electronics so hang on to all originals. I am very please to be DIGITAL this is an amazingly cheap upgrade from my Emerson 27"
Get What You Pay For
by: Anonymous    On: 2003-11-13

All in all worth the money, you could pay double and not end up with much better. Mine had a huge dark full hand print inside the screen, just terrible quality control. Called APEX, they could care less so I disassembled the unit to clean the screen and the mirror was just filthy with dust. Its fine now, average color and clarity. Not worth a penny more though.
this tv is a keeper
by: Anonymous    On: 2003-11-11

a 43inch tv for 600 bucks. and it works great! sound is good the picture is great with directv
Not worth the money.     On: 2003-11-02

Lets List the good things first:
-size
-hi definition
-price

And now the bad:
-No screen protector
-No anti-glare covering
-Poor contrast
-The buttons on the remote do not work or do a function other than what they are labeled. For instance hitting the volume on mine brings up the sleep timer.
-Tinny sound despite BBE sound enhancement.

Should have known better than to buy an APEX. For a bit more money a higher end TV of a major brand name is a much better investment.

Best value for the price     On: 2003-10-24

I bought it at amazon.com two months ago to replace my Sony Wega 27". Very happy with it.

Some people mentioned it was too dark for progressive scan DVD player, but I dont have this problem. The picture is bright and clear.

Got a great deal thanks to all the poor reviews on here     On: 2003-10-14

a guy in the bay area won this TV from a local car dealer and was selling it for cheap partially as a result of poor reviews on here.

THANKS YALL THIS TV IS AWESOME and I GOT IT IN THE BOX DELIVERED TO MY HOUSE for ...!!!!!!!!!!!

The first thing i did was pick up an apex progressive scan DVD off of amazon, very affordable.

The progressive scan makes a difference and is worth it.
This TV is a great value. We replaced a very good quality sony trinitron 27" TV and are very happy. We mostly watch DVDs and very little TV.

The picture quality on this baby is impressive. It is also the same depth as my old sony and fit well and looks great in our tv room.

In case this matters to you - this is the loudest TV in the world.

The volume goes up to 100. The loudest we have gone is 30. Anything beyond that might cause hearing damage. We usually listen to movies at about 12-15. Think Spinal Tap.

The TV has done that popping thing once where it makes a popping sound and the screen goes blank for a minute. Luckily I had heard that this is normal for rear projection to do, or we may have paniced - dont worry if this happens.

about all the knocks on amazon about it being hard to use - what isnt hard to use? as a tcehnical person im always amazed at how hard to use and poorly documented a kids toy can be. particularly if you are putting it together christmas morning and have been up late drinking nog with mrs clause.

gave it a 4 and not a 5 because the universal remote and the documentation are weak.

but those are minor issues
...
you cant go wrong.

Good for the Money     On: 2003-10-08

Ive had the TV for a few months now and I do like it very much. Only problem I have is that I cant figure out how to use the supposed picture in picture. There is nothing in the book or on the remote for picture in picture. So if someone can help me out with that..Please do so. Another slight problem is that the picture is a tad blurry. Not too much to notice, but overall the tv is a great buy. It is very sharp and takes up hardly any space. I would definitely recommend it.
What a Christmas!     On: 2003-10-07

I bought an APEX television for me and my husband for Xmas. Within six weeks the TV went out and from that day on our lives have not been the same. APEX CS is HORRIBLE!! They have given us every song and dance known to man. We bought ours from Fingerhut and neither one of them will help. The two service people they told us to call for APEX do not service my area. APEX says they are only 10 miles from my home and one is 50, the other 40. Thats ONE WAY! We had to buy another TV (RCA). We are now having to store the APEX TV and my credit is kaput because of APEX. Fingerhut said they would take it back within six months but I would have to pay shipping of $72. I would throw myself in front of one of these TVs in a store to keep someone from buying one and have the headaches that we have experienced.
Don't expect customer service. Apex does not care.     On: 2003-10-07

I purchased an APEX GB4308 from Amazon.com and it was delivered on Aug. 28, 2003. It worked well until Sept. 12, 2003. Since then I have been calling and waiting to talk to someone. I have left my name and phone number numerous times and to this day, Oct. 6, 2003, no one calls back. An authorized repair center is 25 miles from my house but they are not authorized to travel outside of a 20 mile radius. Bottomline: dont waste your money on a piece of... equipment that will not be serviced by the manufacturer in a reasonable time.
TV Good... Apex Service... somewhat less so
by: Anonymous    On: 2003-09-27

Delivery and set up were great! TV worked well right out of the box. The manual provided is a little on the flimsy (poorly translated) side, but I can live with that. The remote problem listed below I suspect is user error. I thought mine was broken as well, then realized that I had to press the "tv" button in order to control the TV. The picture is indeed a bit dark but very good overall. Ive had the TV for a month and am very satisfied. However, when I called Apex to report a problem with some bizarre "smudges" on the INSIDE of the screen, I experienced my first real problem with the TV. They had no one in my area who could fix it. I live in Houston. As in Texas. Are you familiar with this place (sarcasm ended)? Anyway, they apologized and promised to get back with me in 2 days. Its now been 7 and counting. Im still happy with the TV, but uncertain about the company. What good is a warranty if the company doesnt have any way to honor it? And never calls back? The TV was a bargain at $520 (delivered), lets hope it remains so. Ok, lets end on a positive note. My DVDs have never looked better and my wife and I are having a blast on "movie night".
Best deal I ever got     On: 2003-09-26

This is truely the best deal I have ever got, worked great out of the box. I have not had to do any adjustments at all. Great T.v for the money, not a hd but when they come down in price I will probably buy one too.
happy so far
by: Anonymous    On: 2003-09-23

my tv was waaay too dark out of the box, even with bright/contrast jacked up to 100 each. i called apex (no busy signals for me) and they gave me the name and number of the authorized service center in my area. tech came out and fixed with no problem. tech also freaked out when he saw i got the tv for $520 after rebate and shipping. he said thats an unbeatable price. he was impressed. and im impressed now, too, since its been fixed. i can see why people would spend a lot more money (images could be crisper), but for me this is a perfect set until hdtv becomes the standard. dvds on my progressive scan player look awesome. and ps2 games play very well. i was worried at first, but overall im very satisfied.
TOTALLY NOT WORTH IT
by: Anonymous    On: 2003-09-22

The item that I ordered was shipped to me in 2 wks. I opened the box after delivery with an excitement and guess what I got? A defective tv. And from that day on I am constantly in contact with the service and amazon but the service will tell me they ordered the part but Apex isnt sending it, and Apex wont even respond. The worst product ever. Total waste of your money. I would pay a couple of hundred bucks more and get a working tv from a reliable brand like Toshiba, Sony, RCA, long story short DONT BUY APEX!
APEX does not want customers!!
by: Anonymous    On: 2003-09-20

The only explanation that I have for the lack of service APEX offers is that they do not want customers. They are destined to go out of business. Sure, delivery was great... the first three months were great... but then, all of a sudden, the color in the picture totally distorts making it impossible to watch. I have been dealing with customer support now for TWO MONTHS!!! This is the honest to God truth! I wouldnt take time to write a review otherwise. I was nice to them for so long, and they just became more and more rude over time. I shouldnt have a problem like this so soon after purchase, but even so, being under manufacture warranty, THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE CORRECTED BY NOW! I have told their customer service (ha!) that I am going to spread the word all over the Internet that APEX is ripping off consumers and should be put out of business. Buy from a more established manufacturer.
Pleasantly surprised.
by: Anonymous    On: 2003-09-17

Great quality for the price. Ill buy another one and put it side by side if they have it for $399 again.
great item, bad support
by: Anonymous    On: 2003-09-17

The item was delivered quite nicely. Unpackaged and placed in my home exactly where I desired. For the first 24 hours I was like a child on Christmas morning. However, the picture is showing distortion, and I cant get support from Apex CS. The picture fluctuates from dark to bright sporadically. I finally got through to Apex CS, and was told a technician would contact me within 72 hours. A week later that hasnt happened. Their toll free number is always busy. I am sure it is a simple fix...however I am not sure if I will ever find out as the tech wizard wont come out from behind the curtain.
Do not buy APEX     On: 2003-09-13

I got this TV delivered and it doesnt work right. Apex has the worst customer service. Try reaching their 866-4APEXGO number its always busy, try their 909-930-1239 you get to talk to a rude customer service representative after 35 minutes hold. Bottom line - TV doesnt work and teh manufacturer wouldnt help fix it. DO NOT BUY APEX.
Has been a great TV for the price for the first two days
by: Anonymous    On: 2003-09-12

I got mine shipped yesterday. Eagle guys are very helpful, they delivered to my living room and fit it into my entertainment center. The default setting works beautifully out of the box. Remind you it is not a HDTV, but already a big improvement over my 20 Sanyo. Played a DVD on a ordinary DVD player (not a Progressive scan player), image looks great and sound rocks. Played video tape too, same great result.
Loves it so far....
very nice projection TV
by: Anonymous    On: 2003-09-11

I got this TV from Amazon, I like the picture, the picture has the same quality of other HDTV that are in the $1400 range. it is easy to program and use. I am very happy with it.
Super Picture
by: Anonymous    On: 2003-09-11

This TV gives a great picture. Dont believe the hype of HDTV yet. The Apex delivers a picture very close to HDTV due to its 60hz refresh rate and its 480p image size. There are plenty of inputs for all of your home theater devices. I have not experienced the problems other owners had with quality. I can say that in the past I purchased many Apex DVD players and those had a 50% failure rate out of the box; therefore, I was uneasy about purchasing this TV. So far, no problems. My only gripe is the universal remote has a DVD/VCR button. It does not have a seperate button for each which means you have to choose one or the other. So far I have been unsuccessful at programming a different button (i.e. SAT) for my VCR.
Great Product Great Service
by: Anonymous    On: 2003-09-11

Our Apex 43" was delivered September 9th by Eagle Global. They delivered the set inside exactly where we wanted it placed. After setup I was amazed at the picture and sound quality. We will truly enjoy this great TV at this wonderful price.Sincerely, Bev
Best Deal for $400.00 Special
by: Anonymous    On: 2003-09-11

Worked great out of the Box. Needed a 43-43" Projection to fill a space. Colors are bright and can be adjusted to the type of program you are watching. A good low cost solution until the 3rd generation HDTV/DV monitors start arriving in the next few years.
Best Deal I have ever got on Amazon. My kids were impressed how big Barney now looks. Only complaint bad remote contol layout, also going to a rear projection from a tube means I have to sit down at eye level to get the best view. Over all I would rate this a 8 out of 10 based on $$$ vs Performance
Horrible customer service!!!!     On: 2003-09-10

right out of the box, our remote didnt work nor the autoprogram button (which is imperative to tune in to the local channels). We tried the customer service number on the back of the warranty and waited 3 days in a row for at least an hour each time. After finally getting through to someone, the customer service rep. was very rude and not helpful at all. He told us someone would contact us to set up a time to fix the t.v and a week later still no one has called us back. STEER CLEAR OF THIS BRAND!!!
Great TV for the price     On: 2003-09-10

Thank goodness I found out about this deal on VGtalk.com. Its the best $400 Ive spent this year! Although I knew to not expect much from the TV, I was amazed by the quality of the TV when hooked up through my progressive scan DVD player and XBox with the high definition pack. Im a big gamer, and to see 4-player Halo on this big screen was amazing! However, when hooked up through my progressive scan and high def pack, the picture got dark. Thats my only complaint, but Ive read all other projection sets have the same issue. This was a big jump from my 27" TV to this baby, and the price was well worth it.
The price was right...     On: 2003-09-09

If you purchased it on sale, then it was a steal. If you paid the normal listed price one sees all over the Web, then you might feel ripped off. The picture quality is 6.5/10, it took me about 5hrs to get the picture just right. DVDs on a non-progressive unit look excellent, rich in contrast, good shadow. Football/baseball were a little dissapointing (I have DirecTV) with some fuziness around graphics/yard lines. I am watching it only 4-5 feet away, it would probably look excellent further away. For those concerned about the horiz. lines, let the tubes warm up for a constant 24hrs... my disappeared after a while and unless you are extremely picky, you will be very satisfied. Im not too concerned about the quality, I own a Apex 20inch and 3 DVD players, all have been working 110%!
Better then I expected     On: 2003-09-08

I got the delivery on 9/5/03. Looked great right out of the box. For the price i paid $399 + shipping it is a great deal. I have had it for almost 2 days. No problems yet. The picture quality is good and so is the sound. I did not have to tinker much with original settings. although it provides lots of options for picture quality. Works nice with my DVD. So far overall impression is very positive. Has the component video output to go with a progressive scan DVD player. the unit is decently sized and had ample room on the top to place a DVD player or a tuner. Still working great as of 12/03.
Excellent Value, Mid-Quality     On: 2003-09-07

The TV works great, looks great, and its price cannot be beat. Picture is sharp and clear, tuner is strong. Its huge, and for half the price of the next comperable TV.

Problems: picture is very dark when using the progressive scan. Using my Panasonic prog. scan DVD player, dark colors blend together so you cant tell whats going on in dark scenes of movies. Dont buy it for the 480P. Looks fine watching DVDs with the regular component video (yellow cable) hookup.

Also has a smudge on the left side that cannot be cleaned form the outside. it looks like something under the outside plastic covering. not a big problem, but an imperfection.

Overall, this TV is great. I enjoy it and its worth every penny. Its not perfect nor top quality, but its got a great huge picture for not a lot of cash.

Good for the money
by: Anonymous    On: 2003-09-06

just got this TV delivered by Eagle USA. Delivery was smooth but the guy dont install. So beware.

Overall, the appearance of the TV is handsome. I like the silver/chrome finish on the exterior. The size of this TV is just perfect for our master bedroom corner. Setup is very simple. Just a few click and u are up. The numeric channel button is a bit confusion. In order to change to station in the 10s or 100s, u need to press the 100+ button on the remote to switch to that mode. Otherwise, the TV is good for what I paid for it.

misconception     On: 2003-09-05

This set is advertised as a "high definition" television.
Reading the tech details does let you know that it is a EDTV capable of only 480P. Minimum HDTV requires at least a 720p.
Actual HDTV has a resolution of 1920 x 1080. Also, it looks terrible.
A majority of people have no clue about HDTV and are constantly
given incorrect information.
Good price if you got it for $500
by: Anonymous    On: 2003-09-05

Well for all those with lots of reviews, this is not the best TV in the world, and if you have already have HDTV, its kinda hard to go back on.

This is only good for a second TV somewhere in the house, and its a decent one if you got it for $500 on Amazon when there was that crazy sale. Otherwise I would recommend a tube TV or plasma. Get one of those plasma ones for less than $3000 and it would be a panasonic top of the line 42 inch.

You will need to set convergence and do a few setup, but digital cable is great on my set, and DVD imaging is dependent on your DVD player.

Again, no buy if you did not get it for like $600.

Don't Buy!     On: 2003-09-05

Let me tell you this, I am glad that they have discontinued this item. It is horrible! Ive purchase two and both gone bad on me. Overall comment, dont waste your time and money on something like this. Go pick up something like a Sony or Panasonic, or etc. APEX is no good.

Sorry, I would change the rating but I cant. This is a revised copy now.
A very nice TV for the price     On: 2003-09-05

The Apex GB-4308 43" Projection TV is huge compared to the smaller tube versions. It was delivered in about 2 weeks and the image is not as good as a HDTV, so dont expect the highest quality but what a difference for the price. No other TV ranging between 500$-700$ can beat this one, so what i wish for now from this TV is to not use the warranty that came with it. I hope everything goes smoothly...
Picture and sound are wonderful even without P.S.
by: Anonymous    On: 2003-09-03

It arrived last friday. We watched 5 DVDs and 5 tapes over the long weekend. The picture and sound are wonderful. Im going to order an APEX 2500, a progressive scan DVD player. I believe the picture will be more beautiful.

Great first Day     On: 2003-09-01

I just got in the TV, and was really impressed by how good my relatively cheap TV was. Of course it was a huge change for me. My old TV was a 1998 RCA 26" with no S-Video or Components....My DVD is now hooked up with component (regular, not pro), and it looks great. The blacks are really black, and I didnt have to fiddle too much with it to get it to look the way it should. Great deal.
Excellent for the Price!
by: Anonymous    On: 2003-08-28

I paid $$$$ plus $$$$ to ship. There was also a $$$ mail in rebate so final cost will be $518. Sound quality is excellent. My convergence was right on and needed no adjustment. To get your best picture quality you will need Digital cable or satellite. The poor picture quality I get from my mediocre analog Time Warner cable is more pronounced on a screen this big as compared to my smaller tube sets. Where this sets picture really excels is when using a progressive scan DVD player and component cables. Then the output is absolutely outstanding. Colors are bright and picture sharpness and detail are as good as it gets not withstanding comparison to a plasma TV. Just make sure your DVD player has adjustments of its own for brightness and contrast, otherwise the Apex may not be able to compensate for those by itself.
defective     On: 2003-08-28

I hate this unit, or maybe Im biased because it came defective. When I turn it on, the closed captioning has a double vision background of purple. The pictures are not clear. Thank god for Apex warranty. I called them up and they told me they would send a technician over by next week to replace the defective part, which they guessed was the converter. Also, the panel in front of the tv is very hard to close. Push, and it opens, push again and its supposed to close, but it doesnt, then u realize you have to push harder to close it. I`ll keep you updated on the picture quality after they send the technician over here...
Not just the TV but Customer Service is horrible too
by: Anonymous    On: 2003-08-27

I bought this TV through Amazon last week. Was delivered in time but ever since it is having convergence problem. I have tried to fix it through menu but it keeps getting corrupt on it own, anytime it feels like. Amazon does not want to take ownership of this TV, being too big. Apex customer service says contact our service center and service center says they are waiting for an approval! Can anyone imagine that Apex customer service phone is down for past two days? I guess I have to live with this. But now, I can NEVER suggest anyone to buy anything from APEX ever again. Also, read amazons return policy before buying such items. I made a mistake I did not read it.
HAPPY CUSTOMER     On: 2003-08-27

I just received my order and I really like the 43" tv. Has a great picture and quality sound. As for amazon, they did an excellent job on my order as well as eagle shipping. I will continue to shop at amazon!
Apex GB-4308 43" Projection TV Not What Expected
by: Anonymous    On: 2003-08-27

From the reviews I read, expected this TV to have as good or better quality than my Flat Screen TV. Sound quality is great, but Picture quality is lacking. The horizontal image lines are clearly visible and the picture is somewhat grainy from 8 feet away. Adjusting settings doesnt seem to help. Save your money and get a HDTV set if you want a high quality Projection TV. This one doesnt cut it. I would return this if I could.
Cheap all around

With HDTV, you get what you pay for. With this, you get a cheap... piece of crap.
And whats up with the picture on the screen? um... creepy!
unlucky maybe?     On: 2003-01-31

I purchased one of these apex gb4308 tvs. the first one i bought i had to return becouse it kept shuting off buy it self for no reason. the store was nice and they exchanged it for me. a 240 mile trip i might add. now the second one i have now was working good for a while great picture and sound. but now the upper tuner is going out very fussy pictures from channels 55 and up. i called the rex store where i bought it to see if i could get it repaired. they told me they dont have anyone who will work on apex. just return it and we give another one. i hope every one else has better luck with this television then i do.
Fantastic TV!     On: 2002-10-28

The Apex GB-4308 is one fantastic television.

If youre looking for a super tv this is your baby!!!

This set matched and surpassed my highest expectations. I am on satellite---have tested it with coxial, S-VHS and rca jacks with the same excellent results. Suggest if you do get one of these sets you get satellite if you dont already have...dish and directv both have giveaway deals...to fully enjoy the set to its fullest potential (cable tv in general really [very very not nice], after satellite).

The picture quality is excellent. Its as close to movie film as I have ever seen, even a few feet away the picture isnt destorted. The picture is really in a class all its own and you have to see it to believe a big screen tv could be this sensational.

The sound is just as impressive. It has a great stereo surround sound effect for a tv set. The only sound better would be a surround sound system and receiver offering dolby 5.1, dts and dolby pro logic II (not just pro logic).

Like everything with Apex it is extremely high tech with connectors for the connectors!!! Anyone can use it but you do have to read instructs...its not just simple plug and play with an Apex unit.

If youre looking for one great tv this is YOUR ticket. I got mine at rexstores.com which included an additional instant promo discount already off a terrific price, ...others also carry the set.

But dont get the Apex HT 100W surround sound system if you want surround sound from satellite, vcr or cable---It will NOT do it.

This Apex 43 inch set is the cats meow, why pay more and get less???

great bang for the buck     On: 2002-10-15

I bought this TV and at first had a problem with it shutting off for no reason at all. which was quite a hassle but after some struggle with the company I bought it from and boy they gave me quite the runaround ( I would not recommend anyone shop at REX they are more trouble than they are worth.) once they exchanged my TV for one that worked properly. I have had nothing but good experience with this TV. the picture is very clear. the easy to use, and easy to program, universal remote works from almost anywhere. For being a projection TV, the myths of having to be right in front of it to see it are wrong! you can sit at as much as a 70 degree angle to the left or right and still get a good view of the picture. it has all the inputs you could need and a single stereo output, to run through what ever amplifier or reciever you may choose. over all picture clarity is magnificent whether it be cable , VCR, DVD, or a video game system. I personally use a sony playstation, and the graphics are unbeatable. and if you get a dvd player remember to go with the progressive scan. It makes for an even clearer picture.
what else can I say I like it.
This Tv is the best I have ever owned.     On: 2002-09-08

I bought this tv today from a local rental store and the picture is great. It reminds me of one of the new plasma tv screens. The sound is outstanding and its contemporary look is also another great thins. The only drawback about the tv in my opinion is the wheels on the botton. I have placed the tv on a little entertainment center and I do not know how to get the wheels off. If you are looking for a new Tv this is the one to get. Its the best.
