I bought this TV in June 2003. The first year it needed major repair. I had a service contract, so repair was "free." A couple of months later it needed repair again. Both times, I was without TV for about a week. The customer service (HA HA HA) was so bad that both the local repair shop and I spent a whole day trying to get the Tech. Manual. FINALLY, I was able to get to a site where it could be downloaded.
Can you imagine? They (APEX) are so screwed up that they dont even issue manuals to their authorized repair companies.
Anyway, now in 2007 I no longer have a service contract, and NO REPAIR company wants to handle APEX bussiness. They absolutly refuse. I finally found one guy who did come out ... after trying everything he concluded that the POWER SUPPLY was insufficient, and ruined the CONVERGENCE CIRCUIT. He said he could send it back to APEX, but the last time he did so, they kept it for 6 weeks, and returned it unrepaired. It would cost me about $650.00 to fix, IF he could get APEX to replace the part.
If you want it, Im listing it on eBay for $50.00. Maybe someone will want it for other parts. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER APEX PRODUCT. On: 2006-04-04
First off, anyone who has written a positive review for this TV probably wrote that review right after receiving it. If you are foolish enough to purchase this thing and not heed the warnings, wait a couple months before writing your review. I guarantee you that you wont have anything nice to say about it. The picture goes in and out on a weekly basis.
My wife got in touch with customer service on the first call (amazing, considering what the other reviews said). They had her reset the TV, which didnt work. Their next solution was for us to call a service technician. A month after purchase and we need to call someone to look at it? Unbelievable!

I purchased this TV last October. One day in early March when I was watching on CNN Headline news, I noticed it suddenly got double image.I checked a manual, and tried so hard to fix it but couldnt. Theres a menu called "Convergence", however, I cant move red lines horizontaly. So its of no use at all. You can ask question from their web site. But Ive never had any reply. Also I could find local service centers in WV, one couldnt reach at all, and the other told me its too far. When I call to their customer service center (1-866-427-3946, Id had pretty hard time finding that number on their website), its always busy. I have to try, try, try, and try in order to speak to customer service persons. And then, they told me a local (an hour away from home, even though I live in a capitol city!!) service centers phone #. I called them and made a reservation for repairment. But on the day they supposed to come, they called me and there should be another center nearer, and told me to call to hard-to-catch customer service again. Ah, I gotta try again on Monday... I have no idea of when I can see clear (normal) image again. I would defenately not recommend this companys products from my experience. by: Anonymous On: 2003-12-14
Im not sure what some of these complaints are about.Ive recieved my tv and could not be any happier. You definitely need digital cable or satilite to get the best picture but its well worth it. For this price you could not go wrong.I have also purchased an APEX dvd player and never had any trouble with it.Based on my personal experiences with APEXS products I would have no problem buying any of their products. This is a whole lot of tv and the sound is great also. by: Anonymous On: 2003-12-13
The t.v. is great except for some lines that go directly down the center of the screen while watching a dvd or playing a video game. The picture quality is great, but I only give it 3 stars because of the absolutley terrible customer service. They gave me the run-around for so long that my 90 warranty had expired before I could ever ger the t.v. repaired. I will not buy Apex products anymore because of their customer service. This companies warrenty is worthless and their customer service department is a joke. Bought a big screen from them in june, it wouldnt recieve a signal took almost a month to get a service person to repair it (took all of 5 minutes when he got there). In October same problem occured its mid november still no service person. Have probably spent a minimum of 40 hours on the phone with each instance trying to get the problem resolved. Lots of well call you back before the day is out or we will call you tomorrow that were never followed through. 800 number disconnects you after being on hold for 20 minutes. Emails dont help, calls to the headquarters dont help. Asking to speak to management doesnt help. If you can put up with that on a 1000$+ purchase, be my guest. On: 2003-11-13
Do not buy this, or anything else. tv broke after 3 weeks of limited use.(maybe 1 or two sittings a WEEK) amazon wouldnt take it back, and Apex took a MONTH to find a repair center, i live in Baltimore MD, a major metropolitan area! The repair center has it, going on 3 THREE months, still not repaired. Apex says "oh, all we can do is repair it", but obviously they dont. They are a rip off, do not buy from them, the picture was bad and the quality is even worse. Apex is good for a gag gift at best. Buy it if you want, i warned you. Good Luck. On: 2003-10-29
This is a piece of junk. The picture quality is very bad. by: Anonymous On: 2003-10-24
I can not say anything bad about this TV. Price well worth it. Picture is as sharp as Projection TVs costing as much as $600.00 more. I could sware its HDTV Quality Remote is simple to use TV Menu on screen is self explanitory simple to use If you want No Frills TV (PIP) But good Performance This TV is for you. by: Anonymous On: 2003-10-22
I have been shopping for a Big Screen for some time now. Did a web search and found this model for less than a thousand bucks. Delivery was a snap. The contracted shipping company called ahead and setup a time for delivery. The TV was removed from the box and setup by the delivery company. This is an amazing TV for the price. Setup and control is all menu driven and very easy to use. For a projection TV this picture is very clean. by: Anonymous On: 2003-10-17
I had the nerve to purchase another Apex TV. The first Apex was an HDTV which works great. Now I bought the 51" projection TV which was a big mistake. This TV is a hunk of junk. I wound up selling it after two weeks. I lost money, but the TV wasnt worth it. You are warned, please heed my advice. Apex TVs are worthless. On: 2003-09-23
This tv is the truth. Better picture than most hdtvs! I love this tv. Apex is just like cleveland, it rocks! by: Anonymous On: 2003-09-20
Buyer beware if you intend to purchase. Why? Simply...some problems with the TV I purchased. 1. The Clock failed to keep correct time, therefore the Timer functional was useless. 2. The factory setting for the Convergence was way off, and therefore it requires the owner to converge the RGB lines. Not a big task, just time consuming. Nevertheless, once converged, excellent Picture quality and from DVD very nice. When I placed the TV in Standby mode for 1 - 2 hours, all the user settings were lost. So back to converging the screen again and again and again and storing the data/info but it constantly failed to keep the settings. My eyes were burnt from looking at the grid pattern. BTW the right side of the screen was next to impossible to converge had to suffer color distortion at the edge. I contacted the retailer and told them I had problems and they suggested that I contact the local service dealer. I tried numerous times, but Apex customer supports phone line was always busy and could never get through. Apexs website was no help either in find the local service dealer contact info. Beginning to spot a trend here --- my opinion poor customer service. In the end the retailer got the information for me. I contacted the local technicians to they had to order parts after consulting with Apex in CA. This took serveral days. After a week of waiting (definetly not over nighted) the technicans installed the parts, but it didnt resolve the problems! The technician confirmed with me that they had been in touch with Apex technical support and they were doing what was suggested. So, back to the drawing board, and back to Apex Tech. Support, the local service dealer had to take my TV into the shop. 2 weeks later, still no TV in my house, more parts (Again not over nighted)and technicians tell that the clock now runs fast +3 minutes gain in a 1.5 hour period. I guess its better than a loss of time? Not! The technican didnt confirm or deny with any certainy wether or the convergence is fixed. I got to test that out myself I suppose. At the beginning of the problems I emailed Apex but it appears that the email was never received. Oh well. Bottom line. The picture is great if your TV runs OK. Maybe I am the unfortunate one out of a thousand, or ten, or five --- whoses to know. Advice, really check out the TV before buying. I rated the TV low because of the poor service I received. I always beieve problem can be resolved in a timely manner, but not apparently so in this case. So I plan to return the TV to the retailer and tell him not to carry such promblematic TV which should help avoid customer frustrations in the future for them. Live and learn eh? Hope you do better than I did. On: 2003-08-19
tis tv completely died within 3 weeks of owning it. now, 5 months later i still have not been able to get in touch with apex. HORRIBLE COMPANY, NO CUSTOMER SERVICE, STAY AWAY!!! by: Anonymous On: 2003-07-18
Just received this projection tv yesterday and it has been a well worth the price. To receive this type of precision image, you would have to pay at least a grand more. It was a great picture and I would reccommend it to anyone that is interested. The only down side is that it has no room on top of the televison for your dvd, vcr, or ect... you will need to buy a stand or sit it on the floor. It is an awsome piece of equipment. by: Anonymous On: 2003-06-24
excellent set for the money. The controls are straight forward. The quality of the picture is outstanding.Picture can be viewed from different angles with little distortion. All in all we are extremely pleased with the tv.This is our second purchase of an apex product. Our first purchase was a dvd player. This product was excellent as well. We believe apex gives excellent value for your money.Apex appears to be an up and coming company. On: 2003-02-28
I researched big screens for a while before I bought this one. This one has features of more expensive TVs. It is a whopper so make sure it will fit! Our room is huge so this one was perfect. It came and was a plug and play with crisp picture. It did take me a while to figure out the home theater/vcr hook-ups and I did have to buy a bunch of extra cables. I figure that this type TV wont last but 3-4 years anyway, so BUY CHEAP! The only con I have is that the remote is rather small for these old eyes to see. I am impressed with this model and especially Amazon.com. Shipping was a snap and the guy put it right where I wanted it! GREAT TV! On: 2003-02-26
I bought this tv 6 months ago and man it is worth every penny. It is the clearest projection screen Ive ever seen. Ive had people come over my house and ask if it was Hi-definition. when I tell them its projection screen they dont believe it. I love this Big Screen TV. so If your looking for a big screen I know for a fact that the this APEX is your best bet. by: Anonymous On: 2003-01-10
This television has had to be reparied three time, and each time it has been a battle. Now after 2 month, the service center still has not recieved the parts to repair the set. <-Previous Post rated 5 stars-> 1. Order warranty repair immediately to tweak the picture. It is free and makes a world of difference. 2. Cabling can be tricky. Through it has two component inputs, one is 480p while the other is 480i and they share the same stereo sound ports. I have a progressive scan DVD player and the A/V pack for my XBox to also make it progressive scan. I have a problem!
