I bought this TV for around $600 about 3 1/2 years ago. It was on sale and seemed to be a great price. I was very skeptical of the low price so I paid an extra $100 for an extended warranty. I have to say I have been very happy with the unit. It has never broken down or had any problems. It is on all the time but is not abused. It is not as sharp a picture as i would like but on HD channels its great. Well worth the money I spent. by: Anonymous On: 2004-06-02
broke down after 11 months. been waiting over 6 weeks for repair. apex customer service is a joke. On: 2004-04-02
I think I remember paying $900 + something for this television and thinking it was a great deal for such a large screen. I still feel that way... despite the problems that I have encountered.Problem #1 - Occasionally, after pressing the power `ON button on (either on the unit or the remote) the green light on the front of the TV comes on, but I never get a picture. After pressing the button to turn the television back `OFF, the little green light on the front just blinks but doesnt turn off and I still have no picture. The first time this occurred it really freaked me out, especially since it was only about 2 weeks old at the time it first happened. Solution - Unplug the television from the wall, and plug back in. Hit the power button on the remote. Television usually performs fine for a week or so after doing this. Problem #2 - At random times, the volume goes up a little, or down a little... even though no one is touching the remote control. Very strange, I admit. Solution - Not known. Deal with it. Problem #3 - Sometimes the television changes channels on its own, while no one is touching the remote. This occurs very rarely, but I have seen it happen with my own eyes. Solution - Change the channel back to the one you were originally watching. Despite these problems, I love this TV. The picture is bright and clear, it has lots of inputs in the back for components, and the sound is actually quite clear with decent bass. Besides, how else would a money-conscious person like myself be able to afford such a HUGE television? Other televisions of the same size cost much more than I paid. The only person that I know who paid less for a similar-sized television bought a damaged Zenith with a huge crack in the screen! Its no secret that you often get what you pay for, and I believe that I certainly did. But right now I would rather invest the extra $1000 in an IRA, or use it to take a vacation and get away from the TV for a while. by: Anonymous On: 2004-03-01
We received the Tv and as soon as we hooked it up, there was no red. So we called and the only place that serviced it was 2 hours away. They came a week later to pick it up. They called about 4 days later to say that it was a hardware problem and the part had to come from Apex. The estimated time is 4-6 weeks. It is so not worth the money. Please beware. I disregarded all the warnings and bought it anyway, thinking well it wont happen to me. Ha. On: 2004-02-04
I have had this TV for about 60 days and I am very pleased with the performence. Seems to be a good investment. On: 2004-01-31
Bought my tv in August 2003. Been very pleased with picture, sound quality, and price. Had developed problem with closed captioning. Contacted service department twice in same day and told they would return my call (gave my number). Been two weeks and have yet to here from anyone. Posted e-mail on website and still no answer. This concerns me greatly! What good is a warranty if no one responds to your request for help! Would I buy again---at this time I dont think so!! The extra $500 in cost would have been worth the piece of mind. On: 2004-01-14
I received my tv on time. It had a nice picture for 2 months and the convergence went out. If you read one of the other reviews, my tv is just like Jons from Los Angeles. The colors are out of whack and distorted and you can never get ahold of Apex because the phone is busy. So I called a repair center and they are coming out here to fix it for free because I have a 1 year warranty. I recommend to stay away from this product. On: 2004-01-06
Bought the GB51HD09 51" HDTV in November. Worked fine for two months then the red colors dont work. Now everything is green and blue, I cant adjust the colors. I dont have red and everything looks terrible. This is a bad product. Called Apex 866-427-3946, line constantly busy. Finally got thru only to be directed to call a local service company that doesnt do repairs on Apex large screen tv. Called again, got busy signal then put on hold. They said a service manager was going to return my call (gave em 2 phone # to call me) -no one called. Called again -hoping to get resolution before 90 day warranty. Got another run around. This company is terrible -DO NOT BUY THEIR PRODUCTS! Problem not yet solved. To be continue...Ok, its been more than a week since a service person came out. Picture tube was defective, so they will order another from Apex. How long, I dont know... so Im without any TV before the Super Bowl. What can you do huh? On: 2003-12-15
I made this purchase alittle while ago thur amazon this HDTV is wonderful great picture great sound and what a picture in HD.I also got HD programming and all I can say it is awsome!! The price is very reasonable and you get a lot for your money and a great big TV . I just love it!! I give this Apex HDTV 5 stars no doubt!! by: Anonymous On: 2003-12-07
Ive tried for 3 weeks to find out if they had a service company in the Des Moines, Iowa area!! Phone line is always busy, emails go unanswered, FAQ questions submitted to the... website go unposted?? I cant figure out why a company like APEX would let a prospective buyer slip away. I own a DVD player from APEX and I love it, but purchase a projection TV online... and not have local service?? Surely they must also look at Amazon website?? On: 2003-12-04
Apex has delivered a good value with this TV. It is a great fit for those who are looking for a new TV but have sticker shock over current HDTV prices. I purchased mine at Ultimate Electronics for $$$ after $$$$rebate. I also got the 5 year extended service plan for $$$. So Im guaranteed to enjoy worry-free, high quality viewing for the next 5 years for under a thousand dollars. If you want the best performance from this or any HDTV, you should be prepared to do some experimenting with your set-up. First youll want to set the convergence of the CRTs. Take your time here since this step is critical to getting a crisp, high resolution image. The second thing you want to do is set the brightness, contrast, color, sharpness and tint on the TV. Any DVDs that have THX sound will have a video setup utility you can use to set these parameters. Third, youll want to experiment with your signal sources like your DVD player, set-top box, cable TV, etc. HDTVs expose many problems that you just dont see on regular TVs. I tried several DVD players, both interlaced and progressive scan and found that some provide much higher video quality than others. I also found that higher priced units are by no means better than cheaper units. Try several players if you can. I can also recommend using the component video connections whenever possible. I also had to do some experimentation with the cable TV wiring in my house to achieve the best possible picture. My house has cable TV wired to many rooms and consequently, there are passive cable splitters everywhere. Every cable splitter attenuates the RF TV signal, which reduces the video quality at your TV. Since I only have one TV, I took out all of the splitters and wired directly from the outside of my house to the TV. The video quality is much improved. If your TV signal is still bad after cleaning up your wiring or if you have more than one TV in your house, you can get a 10dB RCA brand RF distribution amplifier at Home Depot for $$. The only complaint I have with this TV is with the video source selection. It doesnt remember the video signal source on power down and always reverts to the RF TV input. You must scroll through most of the video inputs to get to the component video inputs which is inconvenient. by: Anonymous On: 2003-11-03
I always say you get what you pay for. 2 hours on the telephone to talk to someone. I find out that 7 local repair shops recommended by APEX have a terrible time getting parts. Expect 1 month wait time for repair. Bottom line not worth the price. by: Anonymous On: 2003-10-30
I ordered this TV kind worried it would not be worth the money but it turned out great. No other store compares with the price. The only problem I had was the shipping. It took almost 3 weeks to get the TV and I had to call the shipping company 3 times before they delivered it. Other than that the TV is great and have no regrets. The picture is good even without cable or satellite. Hook ups are easy with many options. Great buy! by: Anonymous On: 2003-09-25
received product. looked great watched it for 1 day and the picture tube died have to wait a month to be fixed. very upset otherwise good tv for what i watched of it. by: Anonymous On: 2003-09-13
This TV is horrible, it worked for 2 hours and then the convergance blew. Worse than that, it had been a month and the warranty department is running me around in circles. So here I am a month after buying the TV and I still have no idea when the service center is going to attempt to help me. APEX IS BAD On: 2003-08-12
The only problem I had was not with the TV at all, but with the delivery....Other than the delivery the Apex 51" HDTV was an excellent buy, has an excellent picture, great sound, and for the price I dont think you can beat it anywhere. I have had mine about a month now and Im enjoying it more everyday. If your looking for a great projection tv at a budget price this is the one to buy. by: Anonymous On: 2003-08-02
I do like the the TV. If you pay for basic delivery - the deliveryman only bring it outside close to the door. If you pay more deluxe, etc. you get the TV inside. I like the TV a lot and I recommend everybody to buy this TV. Buy this TV and you see how good it is. by: Anonymous On: 2003-08-01
I order the TV - it came after 5 days. Good price. I ask just for the basic delivery and shipping. So I had to carry the TV with my friends. If I pay more the delivery man would bring it all the way inside. But no problem - its in now and I am watching the TV. I recommend anybody to buy this TV without thinking to much. Its worth it. APEX does have warranty and as any electronics you have risk, expecially when you dont buy it where you see it. I cant complain - I am happy with the Apex TV and you have to buy it to see what I mean. Salutes Saint Paul Minnesota by: Anonymous On: 2003-05-31
I am very pleaesed with this tv. I priced many other TVs Of this type. None of them compared in price or quality. The sound is good, The picture is clear. And the DVD Picture is excellent! I ordered this TV and Three Days later recieved a call to arrange delivery. On: 2003-05-07
Like the last person to post, it took a while for it to arrive but it did. Like any projection TV, theres color distortion while viewing in certain angles. Picture does appear sharp and audio is crisp. Great buy for its price. by: Anonymous On: 2003-05-03
Super low price.Fast shipping. Excellent picture(better than tvs that cost a lot more)and killer sound.
