I fully agree with all the reviews regarding the lack of bass response on this system. I bought it to use as rear surround speakers. I will be disconnecting the "sub" portion as there is little or no bass response from it. The cubes however, sound great and definately are what I was looking for to complete my system. These speakers are made to replace bad TV speakers, but an amplifier is required. Wouild not recommend for the main movie watching for your home for the subwoofer is not separate from the two smaller speakers. On: 2007-03-29
I purchased the AM3s for my kitchen. I have the cubes hanging under my cabinets (using Vantage Point mounts) and the passive subwoofer on top of my cabinets, laying on its side. I am using the Amphony 1520 5.8GHz digital wireless amplifier [...] since my wiring options are extremely limited.
The sound quality coming from these little miracles is nothing short of amazing. Acoustic songs sound live. Its like having a band in my kitchen at the touch of a button. The Acoustimass Module provides smooth lows to give full bodied sound. Placement of the Acoustimass Module is critical to achieve deep, low frequency results. The closer to a corner of a room you place the Module, the better bass response. Additionally, since my Module is placed on top of maple cabinets, I have it resting on a bathroom rug to absorb unwanted vibration.
I have never been disappointed by a Bose product and am a loyal customer. If you are looking to spend a couple hundred bucks on speakers, look no further. You will not find higher quality for this price. On: 2007-01-10
Quality product with great sound; for two little speakers. Spread out sound well in a large room. I enjoy this product so much that I bought two. On: 2007-01-01
I origianlly thought this was an excellent offer. Two rear Bose speakers with a sub woofer. The setup was simple and the sound from the cubes was unmistakable. What was lacking was coming from the subwoofer. This is not a true subwoofer since its power is derived from the the two rear speakers. When you are trying to get enough bass you can hardly hear a rumble. This caused me to go out and spend a bit more on a good subwoofer. The cube speakers are well worth it and give more than average sound. I just wasnt happy with the complete package. On: 2006-10-20
I am always amazing at the amount of flaming that Bose products seem to instigate on message boards. Clearly, people buy the stuff and so perhaps it is just that web noise.
I have had a set of AM-3s for 11 years. I originally bought them for a rehearsal area where space was tight and I wanted something I could put on the wall, but I got more than I bargained for. As you might guess, I am a musician.
I have been using these in my main parlor/music room area now for 6 years and I am always pleased. They produce a remarkably full sound that is clear and emotional, and they occupy virtually no space. Instruments and voices are rendered with admirable neutrality, and music of all types and time periods sounds just plain good. They can play at surprisingly high volumes without complaint connected to my 150 watt Pioneer receiver.
My only beefs: The single cubes are a bit directional at high frequencies, but not overly so (the bigger double-cube AM-5s solve that). Bass is full down to about 60hz and falls off sharply below that. However, I cannot think of another $200 set of speakers that is so musically satisfying overall. I recommended them to my friends who almost always turn their heads and say, "That sounds great. Where are the speakers?"
11 years and no problems. That speaks for itself. For $200 the AM-3 just cant be beat. On: 2006-10-19

I bought this set just for the cube speakers, which I use as wall-mounted rear surround sound speakers since they are so light. I think they sound great. I hooked them up as my main speakers just to test, and they sounded great as well. Very crisp sound. I have not noticed any "holes" in the sound as commented by other reviewers, and they are perfect for my home theatre.
I cant comment on the bass module because I dont even use it, but I bet its not that great given how small and different it is from Boses other more expensive bass modules. On: 2006-04-25
Great sound for the money. I know you can get better speakers but not for $200.00. I got these at Circuit City and am very pleased with the sound. If you think Bose does not sound good it is usually your speaker placement or the acoustics of your room. They sound very good in my living room and I would recommend to anyone. On: 2005-10-12
For decently recorded solo instruments, chamber music and choral music this rig is fine once you get over Boses pricing. As for more modern "pop" stuff on which more recording care is initially lavished, Bose setup is damn near perfect. Generally nice separation of frequencies affords hours of listening without the unconscious strain that results from trying to compensate for systems inadequacies. Considering space-saving size and audio quality: a worthwhile investment for the not-overly-finicky audiophile.

This system has a very strange sound. The satellites are tinny, with very bad frequency response and the bass module is boomy & rumbles a lot. The culprits are very cheap drivers used. (...). Tiny single cone drivers and small bass module drivers. What happens is 2 major "holes" in the sound, around midbass and upper treble.

Every morning Im up with the dawn. A quick cup of coffee, then Im at my iBook tap, tap, taping on the keys, writing away, slaving over that novel that one day is going to propel me to the stars. And while Im doing this, Ive got Billy Holiday or the Beatles playing low, so that I dont wake the woman I love or the baby.
And though Billie was meant to be played with the volumn soft and the lights turned down low, the Beatles were not. They were meant to be played loud. They were, they really were. But if youre up before the sun and you crank it up, not only will you be at trouble at home, but your neighboors might not appreciate it either.
So what to do, what to do?
Get a Bose Acoustimas speaker system, thats answer. In all of my listening experience, nothing handles the Beatles better when you cant turn it up than Bose. The reflecting sound fills the room without rocking down the house. And your hear it all, every lickin stichin bit of the music. John, Paul, George and Ringo never sounded better on a quiet morning. And as an added benifit, later on, when everybody is up, you can turn the music up too and it sounds super. And on the special occasion, when you are home alone, you can rock out and play it loud, loud enough so that the neighbors might call the cops if you dont watch out.

About the only thing Bose has going for it is pretty packaging...the sound, build, and electronic quality is mediocre at best given its outrageous price point.
My sister refused my advice and bought this system. Then I bought her a cheapo JBL powered sub and cheapo JBL satellites which cost about the same...and she was stunned! I just felt bad for Best Buy, they had to absorb the loss. On: 2004-12-23

Let me start this review by saying that Im not an "audiophile" and wont be including any gibberish about audible ranges or anything like that. I just can tell when I hear good sound that I like. And these speakers produce that. Plenty of bass (almost too much, I had to turn down the base on my receiver) and beautifully clear mid-range and high notes.Connected these Bose speakers to my 25 year old Yamaha 500 RX receiver and an old Toshiba DVD player. The system sounds great. In addition to CD and Tuner, I bought a cable that allows me to connect the receiver to my laptop computer, and now I get the best sound Ive ever heard from all my Internet radio stations, CDs, ITunes, and games. And best of all, these speakers are small enough that they dont take up hardly any room in my home office. Little cubes are on the side of the room and are not obtrusive. Acoustimass module shoved in the corner. Only really down side I can see is the cost of Bose products. These are pretty expensive and you can probably find speakers that sound just as good for less money. But, I guarantee you they will not be as small and fit as well in your room.
