I have had the Kodak CX4230 for over 3 years. I have had no problem with the camera or the dock. The camera takes great pictures and the sofwear is easy to use. If there a problem. There nothing wrong with camera only as good as the person using it. On: 2004-07-28
I bought this camera last year and I have not been happy with the results. First the camera (not the user) decides wheather its going to use the internal or the memory card on any given day. The only way I could get my pictures to save on the memory card is if I hit the side of the camera a few times. Lets just say I misses many of those precious "kodak moments" fooling around with this tempermental camera. The why exactly do we need a docking station? My so-called "charged battery" lasts for a maximum of two hours. We can "easily" transfer the pictures my sticking the memory card in the computer. Once again I think the whole docking station idea is a way for kodak to make consumers think we need to buy yet another accessory to make everything "easy." Most of the pictures I have taken have came out way too dark- even after I changed the flash settings. The camera is getting serviced as we speak to lets see what happens~ On: 2004-05-23
I wanted a simple to use camera to take snapshots of the kids around the house. I did not care about printing photos, just wanted to email pics to family and friends. Out of the box, the camera has some cool features such as auto-orientation and the menu is not too hard to navigate. The Kodak software makes the storage and manipulation of the pictures easy, but getting the pictures from the camera to the PC is not so fun. About 75% of the time I have a problem with transferring pictures. Usually a reboot and a disconnect/reconnect of the camera does the trick. I took the camera back after a few weeks and they gave me a replacement and there was no difference. The other part that they do not tell you is that you need to use a SecureDisk card to hold the pictures to make the camera function somewhat normal. Do not rely on the internal memory. Last night I returned from a trip to Florida with the family and lost over half of the pictures. Hence I am writing this review to warn any future buyers of this camera. There are so many newer/better cameras out there now, I would not recommend purchasing this camera at all. On: 2004-03-07
I dont know about you users out there who are having problems with your CX4230, but me and mine spend countless hours together and the only hitch weve had has been that it was dropped a couple of times. Ive had this camera (and the same batteries) for more than a year now and have had nothing but fun with it. The only reason I give it four stars, is because there isnt a skin (like a cell phone skin) available for it. Im not too crazy about the camera pouches that are available. But hey, Im going to give in and get one anyway. Okay, so the docking station isnt the best of creations from Kodak, but I believe theyll fix that sooner or later. But I dont have to "hit" the camera. Maybe a jiggle once in a while, but thats it. And that is so infrequent that it doesnt affect my love for the whole shebang. I enjoy this camera. So much so, that when my employer requested that I reasearch and find him a digital camera, I went right to Kodak for the answer and the product. Needless to say that now he is a happy camper with his 5MP Kodak. Honestly, I would like to get my hands on a more professional quality camera. But that is because I enjoy the feel of the larger format cameras (you know, the big and heavy 35mm type?), but that is in the future, and would only serve for taking those truly professional looking pictures. Everything else is done with my little buddy - the Kodak CX4230. On: 2003-09-27
This camera works for three months and then ceases to fully cooperate. It stopped transfering pictures tellin me there is no device present.I concluded it was a power supply issue. And after reading some reviews, I know now that i am correct. I dont feel like having to buy more batteries, and by the looks of the other reviews, I know what I have to expect in the future: More Problems On: 2003-08-14
I have a CX4230 and it is currently on its last legs. Ill spare the details: I liked the features too, its lightweight, etc. But the problem I have been having is with the Dock. The "rechargeable battery" isnt all that rechargeable, even after cycling like they suggest. In addition, my camera mysteriously stops working every now and then, loses pictures, blew up a battery pack internally, and now wont charge at all. Its been back to Kodak twice and the second time they gutted it and gave me new insides because the NiMh battery blew up inside of it, making the entire thing too hot to touch. It worked for a little bit, but now its DEAD. I am waiting to hear back from them to see if I can send it back a third time. How frustrating. But I have to say: Kodak has been pretty cool about the returns and stuff, but a good product wont NEED support--it would have been designed to work. The market is competitive enough that you dont need to purchase something that is still obviously in the beta stages. by: Anonymous On: 2003-08-09
We purchaed the CX4230 as our first digital camera and like many of the reviews posted we were pleased. But after about two months we started having problems with the camera turning on and off on its own. We have sent the camera in three times and now Kodak has sent us a refurbished CX4230. To send the camera back in for repairs you have to go through tech support (Good luck). This company is big business and does not care about its customers. I would stay away from Kodak products entirely. On: 2003-08-06
Just bought this little gem, Drivers installed without a hitch, great pictures, easy setup, and free updates available from the Kodak Website, what more can you ask for? by: Anonymous On: 2003-08-03
I have read a number of reviews where people have problems getting the software to run with Windows XP. The key is to update your XP software (upgrades are free from Microsoft). XP had many bugs when it was released and Microsoft is just getting around to cleaning up a number of them including the one that caused problems with the EasyShare software. On: 2003-07-22
This little camera is great. So easy to use. I have had more expensive cameras that were very hard to use. The picture Quality is excellent also. On: 2003-05-07
The quality of pictures - which is the most important factor for me - is excellent. Taking pictures during a sunny day is a pure pleasure. I admit sometimes it acts weird when you want to transfer pictures using either docking station or by a direct connection, but i tried both ways - they work fine. Sometimes Im having problems when I turn this camera on - I guess its the batteries - but have to see it again. And because I live in Poland Im using this camera with an adapter (220V) and I dont have any problems with power or charging batteries. In general, Im satisfied with Kodak CX4230.Added (Oct, 2003): It turns off on its own.. You have to hit it to turn it on... Poor thing.. On: 2003-05-01
This camera/docking station is a big let down. It has mood swings. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. The driver even resulted in an XP blue screen a number of times (This is a sign of a poorly written driver)...I strongly suggest that you avoid going anywhere near this product. by: Anonymous On: 2003-04-28
This is a really great little camera. Our first digital. Looked at several 2.0 meg cameras. Really liked the features of the Kodak 4230 w\\docking station. Basically you just point and shoot; and with the docking station there are no cables or wires to hook up every time you want to download your pictures from your camera to you computer. You just set the camera in the docking station and press the share button and everthing else is done for you. I am using Win ME and the bundled software works very nice. Its so easy to use. It enables you to send pictures to family and friends with just typing in, both email addresses and pressing the button. Very simple! Picture quality is very good. And how cool to take pictures and get them on your computer just that quick is a real plus for us. On: 2003-04-26
My husband and I bought this camera to take pictures of our newborn son. I love it and have had zero problems with it. It was easy to set up and takes terrific pictures. It is so easy to email our pictures too! On: 2003-04-25
My friend had this camera so I was able to use it before purchasing it. Once I purchased it, I found it a wonderful camera. The zoom is exceptional, which enables you to get very close to your subject. You can even zoom a picture after it has been taken. The pictures are exceptional, so if you are debating with going with higher megapixels, I do not think you will be disappointed with a 2.0 unless you are a professional.I also purchased the docking station which is very simple, however, if you are real comfortable with computers and uploading items, you wont really need this. I also purchased the camera case, rechargeable batteries, and a memory card. I am very satisifed with all those as well. I have found that it is a little difficult to photograph children due to their quick movement. But, you are able to set the camera (very easily) to a live mode which enables you to see with the view screen what you are photographing, which is much easier than trying to view it through the small eye window. If some of you are purchasing this camera mainly to photograph children, this is still a great camera. Just dont try to catch them running around. There are ways to adjust the shutter speed, but I havent even needed to read the manual yet. I have Windows XP and I have not had any problems at all with software. I recommend you double check the operating software requirements before purchasing. Windows XP has some bugs, but that is not entirely Kodaks fault. I recommend this camera to anyone who is a beginner with digital photography. You will have lots of fun! On: 2003-04-20
You may want to stay away from Kodak. I bought this based upon the other reviews that were posted here. I was unable to install the Kodak EasyShare software from the included CD after several hours of trying which basically makes the thing useless if you are unable to transfer the pictures to your computer. I have also been unable to connect to [their website.] Nobody home...I would sure recommend buying from a local store where you can at least get some assistance or return [stuff] that doesnt work to get a refund. After wasting a half a day of my life on this junk Ill now have to go to the trouble of boxing it up and sending it back. On: 2003-04-20
I bought this camera based on the reviews I read here. I spent a half a day attempting to install the Kodak EasyShare software from the CD with no success. I eventually managed to connect to their web site to try and download the software but it is just as buggy and wouldnt install. The drivers did load and I am able to connect to the camera and transfer the photos to my computer using Windows Explorer. I do have some other graphics software so it is not a total loss. If youre smart you will go to a companys web site and see if they have a phone number for tech support and see if you can contact them before you buy anything. Kodak has no such tech support numbers for the US on their web site. Im really upset with myself for relying solely on these reviews. On: 2003-04-18
I have a different model Kodak camera, however they all use the same EasyShare software. Running Windows XP, I could not get the software to work properly. After several hours on the phone with Kodak tech support, they couldnt get it working either. They said they are aware of the problem on some computers running Windows XP. It is now several months later and they still dont have a fix. They dont really seem to care either. It might not be a bad idea to consider other brands, instead of Kodak. Since, if the software wont work properly, then what good is the camera? by: Anonymous On: 2003-04-03
This was my first digital camera. I had the software downloaded and picutres taken within 4 hours. It was really easy to use and transfer to my computer with the easy share button. The only problem I had was getting it to update my addresses to my camera, but I finally got it working. The software is easy to use also. I just love this camera On: 2003-02-03
Admitted, I am not an expert in comparing digital camera - nor, did I feel I had a lot of time to compare the various features of one camera to another. But, I can say that as a family, we are very pleased and have enjoyed our camera very much. As well, the delivery of the order was very good. On: 2003-01-13

After two weeks of waiting for this product I installed all the software, took a few test pictures clicked the "Share" button and waited for 20 minutes "Serching for media" computer froze. I tried this several more times that nigth and finaly gave up with the thought of calling Kodak Tech support in the morning.I wake up call Kodaks friendly tech support, they do have semi decent support, after 5 hours of them telling me it was cause I have an IRQ conflict, and three calls, I gaveup with their tech support and decided to fix my IRQ for my USB so that it wasnt sharing a n IRQ with my sound card. (note never had IRQ issues with any USB device ever before) I fixed it so that the USB had its own IRQ and step up the software, camera and took a few test shots again.....SUpirise it froze my computer AGAIN. So I went to my buddies house to try it on his computer...yeah I didnt give up easy on this...and had the same results. I knew I should have bought a Sony! by: Anonymous On: 2002-12-28
This is my first digital camera and I was a little nervous getting started. However, the instructions were easy to follow-I was editing photos around 2 hours after unpacking, installing, and following directions(which is good for a novice:) There is a great website for reference and I could use the photo system installed on my computer (Photo Studio). Photos can be edited to black and white and sepia (cool effects)from Kodak software included. Does not come with carrying case but does have batteries-youll need a memory card and Id recommend getting the camera dock II. by: Anonymous On: 2002-12-26
We gave this camera to our 17 year old daughter for christmas and within minutes she had figured out how to use it and how to download the pictures onto her pc. We only had to help her hook up the docking station to her pc but then she was downloading in minutes. She loves this camera and we are now ordering a multimedia card so she can store a ton of photos on an upcoming trip to Italy and download them all when she gets home. On: 2002-12-25
I read the first two reviews and feel terrible that these two poor souls had so much trouble. I used it for several days before sending it on to my daughter in California and the pre-charged battery shot 60 pictures with no sign of slowing down. The pictures were terrific for a 2.2MP camera -- sharp, decent color, and they enlarged to 5x7 flawlessly. I use an inexpensive Canon S600 printer, so it isnt like the printer could have made up for poor image quality.I have owned a Kodak DC4800 for 18 months and have had great results so I didnt hesitate to buy another Kodak, and I was not disappointed with the CX4230. Its a great starter camera for the budding digital photographer and I have recommended it to my friends who went right out and purchased one. So far they say love theirs, too. The only big drawback is that the battery didnt come with an adapter that lets you charge it in the camera, which the DC4800 does. Apparently, you have to purchase an expensive docking station -- a useless thing since you can upload pictures with the USB cable that comes with it. A $$... or $$... power adapter would have been a reasonable thing to include. That is all that keeps me from giving it the full five stars. by: Anonymous On: 2002-12-25
I purchased this camera before leaving for a business trip to Hawaii. The pictures I e-mailed came out clear and beautiful, and I love the rechargable docking station. I found it very easy to down load the pictures as well. The only drawback is that the LCD screen on the back of the camera is small and is a bit unclear, but the pictures turn out beautiful. I did a lot of research and found this camera to be the best deal for the cost..... On: 2002-12-22
Purchased the camera and after a few minutes of use we had it taking high quality pictures. Never had any problems from the start. itt just takes some reading and we were getting perfect pictures from the start. I recommemd it to anyone for ease of use, design and all the features it comes with. On: 2002-12-20
Had serious problems getting any where near decent quality photos. Then, after only 2 days of use, took the camera to make pictures of the grandkids and the camera would never load. The LCD never cleared--just a blur. Ending up returning the product. by: Anonymous On: 2002-12-13
We purchased this camera for my sons Christening and were very disapointed. The picture quality was extremely poor,we ended up getting pictures of our special event from our guests since the digitals were so grainy. One of the features that attracted us to the EasyShare was the ability to recharge the battery on the dock, however the life of the rechargable battery was extremely short. We were not able to take more than 8 or 10 pictures before the battery went dead. I gave this camera 2 stars because I did like the camera design, easy of use and number of editing features. Unfortunately these features are not enough to outweigh the fact that the pictures produced were useless even on a superior HP Photo Printer.
