More Information

It works perfectly     On: 2008-07-07

We have been using this device in our car for 1 month. Its the perfect low-cost solution if you have a casette player in your car but want to use your MP3 player, discman or whatever portable device you have with a standard earphone jack. You just put this "casette" into the casette player and plug the jack into your device. Start your device as you would do normally and youre done :)
So far the adaptor has been working flawlessly and it has a pretty good sound quality.
HAVE TRIED OTHERS     On: 2008-06-28

Owning a 2004 Prius, I had another cassette adapter, which I misplaced. I dont remember what brand it was, but Im so glad I lost it. I think I paid $15-$20 for it and when using it, it was so loud that literally at times, I couldnt hear the music over its whirring. The Coby (for much less money) is virtually silent by comparison. Yes, I do hear clicking if I listen really closely, but its nothing compared to what Ive been living with for the past couple of years. The adjustable entry feature is nice as is the coiled cord. Ive also had no trouble with automatic ejecting. I took a chance on this one vs. the others on the market and so glad I did.
What a great product!     On: 2008-06-26

This is a great invention. Im a fitness instructor and use my iPod for all of my music. Sometimes the equipment I have to use is old and does not have an aux input. Now I can just hook up my iPod to this nifty little device. The sound is great and it is so easy to use!
Works like it's supposed to     On: 2008-06-23

What more can you ask? Definitely a step above the cheaper model I bought earlier and threw out. This one works great.
Works Perfect!     On: 2008-06-21

I have used this for about a month now and have absolutely no complaints. Never had any problems installing or using this one with my Nissan Maxima Bose system. Plays perfectly out of my Garmin and Sansa.

Audio quality is slightly lower than CD quality, but hey, definitely beats the broken songs I am getting out of my scratched CDs.
Good Product     On: 2008-06-20

Just plug and play. We were unhappy that we dont have CD player in the car. Now we are enjoying it well. Best product for best price.

excellent product     On: 2008-06-14

I own several casette adapters. The Coby cassette adapter is the least expensive and the best one. Switching from one position to another takes 2 seconds. The sounds quality is great (louder than my radio).
Great Tape Adapter     On: 2008-06-13

Great adapter. Reversible plug works great. Cord is curly so it can be short or relatively long. This is why I had to replace my previous tape adapters because the cord was always getting caught on things. Dont have any gripes about the quality, but then I use it mostly for audio books on my mp3 player.
not too happy about it     On: 2008-06-09

It doesnt work with old cassettes meaning 10 years old dating back to 1998 but works great on new cars I ended up getting a used sony which works great. sony is the way to go.
Poor Audio Quality     On: 2008-06-04

Not worth it. The audio quality is very poor. It could be my cassette player, I usually only listen to audiobook cassettes. However when playing music from the ipod the audio was low fidelity.
Best $9 I may have ever spent!     On: 2008-05-23

Works great in my 2001 Dodge Dakota. No auto-reverse problems Ive read about with this and other products. As a matter of fact, no problems whatsoever! It will work in any cassette player since it has the adjustable input cable. What more could you ask for? Buy it, pop it in your cassette player, plug it in to your mp3 player headphone port and your listening to your... whatever....
Works Great     On: 2008-05-19

This product works exactly like it is supposed to. One of the best buys on the market.
I like this one!     On: 2008-05-15

Ive tried three different tape adapters recently, with this being the fourth. My cars factory stereo is equipped with an automatic tape reverser which could not be disabled. This was the ONLY tape adapter I could get to work in combination with the recommended Macguyvering from another reviewer here. Now the thing plays nonstop with no tape flipping interference and confusion on my cars end.

The sound itself is a little fuzzy or staticy. I dont notice it much, to be honest. I am not sure if this is due to my cassette player or the adapter itself. It would be better if I didnt have to take it apart to get it to work properly in my car, but after throwing away three other ones in as many weeks, Im very very happy with this one.
Inexpensive but not cheap!     On: 2008-05-14

We have an older car with a tape deck. We also have an i-Pod. We own and have used the FM transmitter type adapter for the i-Pod, but the sound quality is not better than your average FM station. Weve tried other tape adapters for the i-Pod (Sony, Phillips, Monster Cable), but these were not satisfactory in the end (the Sony kept flipping tape sides, the Phillips did a bit less so, and the Monster had a muddy sound). We just bought the Coby, and the sound and operation thus far excel well beyond all the other brands weve tried. The sound is great and the price cannot be beat.
So far, so good     On: 2008-05-12

I was a little hesitant buying this because of some of the reviews I read on Amazon. Ive used it several times so far and have not had any problems. It works well and the sound reproduction is good. Based on this, I recommend this product. Oh, delivery was very fast.
Great for the price     On: 2008-05-09

I had th auto-reverse tape deck so I had to use the suggested fix from the reveiw on 3/07. Works great.
Inexpensive, easy to use, works perfectly     On: 2008-05-02

This is one of those surprisingly inexpensive items that worked exactly the way it was supposed to straight out of the package. I havent had the problem mentioned by other reviewers regarding my tape player going into auto-reverse, but the directions posted by them on how to handle it look simple. The sound quality sounds good to me (FYI, I dont play music at super high volumes) and mostly, its easy to use and it WORKS.
This product is really unreliable     On: 2008-04-28

I was really excited to plug my Zune into this so that i could listen to music in my car. However, when i began to play a song before it got to the end the tape would pop out. I cannot tell you how annoying that is. I am going to best buy to get another one because the one i got is clearly faulty.
Great     On: 2008-04-24

This little thing is great! Especially appreicate the coiled wire which saved lots of hassle we had with earlier ones.
Quality is good.
Works great!     On: 2008-04-23

I took this adapter on a cross-country road trip so that I could listen to my IPod through my car stereo and it worked great. I have 2 cars -- one with a side loading cassette player and one with a front loading cassette player -- so having the ability to change the position of the wire is a fabulous feature.
Good item for the price     On: 2008-04-21

The Coby CA-747 Cassette Adapter is a good, inexpensive way to listen to your MP3 player in your car if you have an older stereo system.

The adapter arrived quickly from Amazon and I have not had any problems. Another quality purchase from Amazon.
Does its job superbly     On: 2008-04-20

After a lot of research I was down to the Coby and Sony adapters. I own a lot of Sony audio products so was tempted to go in for the Sony one. But I was not sure of these kind of adapters and the Coby cost $8 as against $13 for the Sony. So I placed my bet on the Coby (didnt have much to lose). Havnt been disappointed since. I use it in my Honda Accord factory installed system along with my Samsung K3 player. Works as good as the CD player. Only thing to note is to get the best performance is to ensure you have good quality MP3 (128 kbps and above, recommended is 192 to get true CD quality).
There was some disturbance using it once but after some rest to the adapter the problem has not returned. Not sure if it was the adapter, player or the system itself. Will update this review if the problem persists. In conclusion I would recommend this product.
Very good product and very clear low and high frequencies     On: 2008-04-14

Its much better than Sony adapter. Very good product and very clear low and high frequencies. Highly recommended.
Works good     On: 2008-04-08

Had a problem when I first used it. The cassette player would keep reversing. Got that fixed and all is well.
Sounds/works great     On: 2008-04-07

Unit sounds fine. Seems well made. Ive had no autoreverse issues though, thanks to the previous reviews, I know how to fix it if it comes up. I recommend this product.
coby cassette adapter     On: 2008-04-05

I bought this cassette player because I had tried the Belkin Road Trip adapter and didnt like having to find the right radio frequency .

The cassette works like a charm!! I love it and the fact that the price was so much lower than the Belkin adapter - how could I rate it less than a 5!!
Not bad     On: 2008-03-29

I bought this to listen to my Zune in my car.

Pros: being able to have the cord come out of the side or top, this allows me to also use it in my small radio/cassette player at work.
Cons: Sometimes I can hear the adapter humming, etc from inside the cassette player, particularly when listening to softer music, obviously.
Awesome purchase     On: 2008-03-22

Im so glad I bought this. It works perfectly in my car! A little hissing in the background for some of the songs but I get much more enjoyment from the iPod. Good purchase.
Same problem as others have mentioned     On: 2008-02-28

When I insert the adapter,it pops right back out again after a few seconds. Since I cant turn off auto-reverse on my tape player (97 Avalon), I tried the other posters suggestions about removing one of the gears inside the adapter, but that did not help. I called Coby and the person on the line claimed that they have had no reports of this problem. So she couldnt help me. By the way, there is no knowledge base on their web site for any of their products.
Very good product     On: 2008-02-19

After going through many reviews of cassette adapters and FM Transmitters for car stereos, I decided to buy this product a month ago. So far, it has worked great. I am able use my MP3 player in the car stereo using this adapter. This adapter has a solid built and the sound quality is excellent. Its modular design lets you plug it into both front and side-loading cassette players. The coiled cord is also a nice feature. Overall, I am very satisfied with this product and recommend it over FM transmitters for car audio.

Suggestion: When you test it first time, keep all volume control knobs at lower settings; specially when you are trying to reverse the direction of the audio play. It plays in normal volume level in only one direction. This is common and expected with any audio cassette adapter. See other reviews for details on the "skip" mode and "auto-reverse" settings.

tape adapter     On: 2008-02-13

This product works like a dream. Its easy to use and the sound quality is great. So far I have experienced no problems with auto-reverse, although I have read reviews that mention that problem with MP3-to-tape adapters.
great- works!     On: 2008-01-21

it works. there isnt any ambient noise, no cracking, just a great transmission of music through a tape player. i bought this before i figured out that we only have one tape player in my house, so it was partially useless for me, but its good to have. an EASY way to make youre ipod play through speakers.
Coby CA-747     On: 2008-01-21

This product does exactly what it was designed to do. The sound quality does vary a bit from car to car. Overall, great performance at a great price. Its a much better alternative over FM transmitted adapter because its free of interference. I can now preview all of my MP3s while driving before burning them into CD.
This works as advertised.     On: 2008-01-16

I saw other reviews complaining about noise mixed with the audio feed.

The solution to this problem is to set the volume of the audio feed -- say, from an MP3 player -- as high as possible and then start from a low volume with the cassette player.

I did not appreciate "Dual Position" until I got the unit. What this means is that the cable running from the unit can run either to the side of the unit or from the back of the unit. This lets you use the unit in two types of cassette players: top-loading units and side-loading units. Handy!
Channel Cuts Out     On: 2008-01-09

worked pretty well. unfortunately, even with infrequent use, after less than a year one channel cuts out and ive got to mess with it very delicately to get it to work. very frustrating and now, basically worthless.
I'm glad I read the transmitter reviews     On: 2008-01-08

After reading the many FM transmitter reviews I realized that the cassette was going to be the way to go, and after reading the Cobys 4 and 5 star reviews I made it my choice. Ive been using it for about a week now and am really impressed with how great it sounds. It would have been nice to have a retractable cord, but Ill get over that. I laugh every time Im in an electronics store and see the other brands cassettes for $20 or more.
Great Sound / Exceeded my Expectations     On: 2008-01-07

I purchased the Coby cassette adapter as an alternative to making a $500+ replacement of my factory installed Harman Kardon cd changer that was on the blink. Decided to try the casette adapter after my research indicated sound quality may be an issue with respect to the FM adapter alternative. To my surprise the Coby cassette adapter provides very good sound quality on my premium car stereo system; almost as good as my now defunct CD player, and better sound quality than I achieve through FM radio broadcasts. The cable can be attached for front loading or side loading cassette players making installation a breeze, and the curled cable is pleasing, asthetically. I connected the adapter to a 30 GB Zune and can now commmute for weeks without hearing the same song twice. I would highly recommend this product to anyone with a high quality cassette player who desires to connect a MP3 player (through the headphone jack) to his/her audio system.
Great product with CD quality sound     On: 2008-01-07

This product works flawlessly and produces CD quality sound.

If you hear a hiss when youre playing music through this product, increase the volume on the source device (like your mp3 player or cd player) and lower the volume on your stereo system. Tadah! No hiss!
LOVE IT!!     On: 2008-01-05

I LOVE THIS! I almost did not buy this based on the auto reverse feature on many tape players these days but decided for the price I could try it anyway. I LOVE IT. The sound has never been better. This is really LOUD which I love. I can turn the dial down on my radio and up on my nano and it really thumps. Plus no more static as I enter different cities. I had a little trouble with the issue with it switching sides but I read the manual for my radio in my explorer, punched a few buttons...cannot remember which ones and now it is no longer an issue. If you want great sound at a fantastic price then I really recommend this product.
Great Accessoriy for Sirius Satellite radio     On: 2008-01-05

This adaptor was all I needed to get great reception and play from my Sirius Stilletto 100 radio. I was having problems with the FM transmitter to the car radio. This product eliminated the problem entirely. I also dont experience "skips" or "End-of-tape" interruptions as others have. I would recommend this highly to anyone with a Sirius Radio and vehicle kit.
Great performing and great looking device for a real bargain price     On: 2008-01-01

Pros:
Love the adjustable dual position for the cord. Some player you need to insert the cassette on its side and some players you need to insert the cassette lengthwise. You will never go wrong with this one whichever player type you have.
Does not look cheap. It looks more decent than other cassete adapters I have that costs 20$
Sounds good too with my Ipod.

Cons: For this price? It is a steal - none
Very noisy     On: 2007-12-18

This is an unusual product in that it comes with a coiled connection cord (about 5 long when fully stretched out), which makes for a neater setup in the car. And because the connector to the cassette is modular it will work with a wide variety of decks. Sound quality is good, though I didnt do any kind of rigorous test.

The problem for me was noise. I purchased it to replace another adapter that was intermittently noisy. This one makes a permanent, very noticeable, non-stop clatter whenever the deck is turning. This makes it totally unusable for me and Im going to have to return it. Thats unfortunate, given the price, but there you are.
superb sound and convenience     On: 2007-12-17

The Coby CA-747 Dual Position CD/MD/MP3 Cassette Adapter works as described with great sound quality. I bought this so I wouldnt have to keep making music cds all the time. The sound quality is almost as good as cd quality except, the bass is a bit lacking (might be my mp3 player). I adjusted the bass on my car stereo and that problem was fixed.
I bought the cassette adapter rather than a FM/AM transmitter because I heard the sound quality was better on cassette adapters. This is half true in my experience. A friend of mine had an FM transmitter with less than desirable sound quality and another had an AM transmitter with excellent sound quality. It really depends on the model I guess. Keep in mind, FM/AM transmitters require a power source. With cassette adapters, mp3 players can be stretched one to two feet from the radio whereas FM/AM transmitters can be used anywhere in the car. The decision to buy an FM/AM transmitter versus a cassette adapter is really a matter of personal choice.
Great Price - Great Product     On: 2007-12-13

About three minutes after this arrived, I was driving down the block with my Blackberry happily playing tunes through my car stereo. Couldnt have been easier and I cant see how it could be cheaper.
Great option     On: 2007-11-24

There are very few areas around Atlanta where there is not a radio station. When we use this we never have to worry about losing the sound or a station cutting in. So far so good.
Works Great     On: 2007-11-17

Works great. Had different model, but wire from cassette got crimped and one track wasnt working well. Crimping came as I switched old model from my truck (front load cassette) to my wifes SUV (side load cassette).

With Coby, just adjust the cord coming out of cassette to prevent crimping. And on the Coby - the coiled cord from cassette to Ipod keeps the wire from getting all tangled up.

Highly recommeneded.
it works. it's cheap.     On: 2007-11-07

Ive been using this for several weeks, off and on, and so far Im pleased. The price was right and it works fine. The cord is long enough to comfortably reach my mp3 player on the passenger seat, but no so long that its wrapping around the stick shift and my feet. I dont notice any problems with sound quality, though Im hardly an audiophile and have a car speaker system thats nearly 10 years old.
Good buy on cassette adapter     On: 2007-10-21

Ive seen many negative reviews for cassette adapters. I decided to go on a limb an purchase a cassette adapter.

Ive owned this cassette adapter for several months now, and is still working fine. Ive forgotten the adapter on my care cassette player several times and havent had any issues. The sound quality is very good. Hissing is only noticeable when the volume is high on the cassette player and low on your portable. Havent had any issues on the cassette players auto reverse feature, but I should mention that my cars are late model (2002/2003) and the cassete players are better than most from older vehicles. I think this cassette adapter will hold up for a long time. A definate good buy!
Works beautifully     On: 2007-10-11

This works so much better than the FM transmitter adapters. (No struggling to find a free station while traveling.) The cord attachment is very clever. It rotates to fit the type of player (front or edge loading.) If you set your players volume to about 1/2 max, the sound quality is very good.
It Works     On: 2007-10-10

Works on a 95 Chevy Lumina and a 2001 Dodge grand Caravan. Better quality then radio (use a Creative Zen Stone plus). Minor cassette noise when engine is off.
Not Bad for the Price     On: 2007-09-24

This product is actually pretty good. It is a great alternative to the more expensive adaptors. Great for older cars with cassette decks and its easy to store. I would recommend it.
Great sound quality, if yuo can get over the problems     On: 2007-09-20

Its a tape adapter with a removable plug which is a nice touch, the only problem is that it suffers the same problems all other tape adapters do, mainly, that in automatically rewinding tape decks, under the right conditions(Ive noticed this most in very cold weather), the cassette deck in the car will play no audio, rewind, and then spit it back out. It takes a few minutes of reinserting and playing with it until it finally works some days.

When it does work, it works finely and sound quality far surpasses FM transmitter quality, though its not quite CD quality as expected.
Nice and Reliable     On: 2007-09-18

This little thing is such a good price and delivers a constant, reliable and high quality sound-IF you still have a cassette player in your car! My hubby only has a cd player which meant a broadcaster in his car and it works fine, very little interruption but mine is perfect! The only thing it doesnt do is charge your ipod, which isnt a problem for me at all. A have a friend that works for Apple and this is his preferred way to get good music into his (also a few years old) car and now that Ive tried it I get why!
works as advertised     On: 2007-09-07

Sound quality is as good as any cassette adapter and the coiled cord is flexible enough to offer enough length and not get tangled.
Click, Click, Click     On: 2007-09-07

The Coby adaptor did a good job of transporting music through my cars FM radio. However, there is some sort of mechanical problem with it that caused it to click every second or two. It wasnt worth having.
ROCKS! Sounds way better than an FM trans. SUPER!     On: 2007-09-01

I bought an $80.00 dollar FM transmitter and it had static everywhere even in the middle of no-----where. I took it back and ordered the coby adapter and it is nice and clear and doesnt rotate sides in the middle of a song like some others have problems with. I use it in a Subaru. At first I thought it didnt sound great but I noticed the volume on my IPOD was all the way up and turned it a little below 3/4 and I was like wow! YES roadtrip time! With another MP3 player full volume actually sounds best so try that if it sounds poorly!
Does not Work with iPhone     On: 2007-09-01

This sounds fine, but I had to get an adapter jack for it to work with my iPhone.
Does not work on all cassette players!     On: 2007-08-17

This item does not work for cassette players with automatic reverse. It plays the track for 30 seconds and keeps reversing like a tape would after reaching the end. It would work wonderfully if my car did not have this feature or if I knew how to turn the feature off. I just bought a cheaper one from a different brand from Walmart and it works fine!
It works great!     On: 2007-08-12

This is the first and only cassette stereo adapter I have had. It works great. The sounds quality is very good. And it is inexpensive and easy compared to installing a new stereo. I have a great stereo but it does not have an input or MP3 connection. I use this to connect my MP3 player or my jukebox for longer trips. I have had it now for a month or so and I recommend it.
Works well.     On: 2007-08-04

This product works well, I have only had one incident so far where I guess the wheels inside made some noise, but I just had to eject it and put it back in and it was fine. The sound is alright, its not muffled and this worked way better than my fm transmitter that i bought and was way more expensive and didnt even work.
works great     On: 2007-08-03

I bought this for my wifes car, she is very very happy with it. No issues, sounds good, works fine, the price was right.
great so far!     On: 2007-07-20

great product so far! ive had it for about a month/month an a half and i use it everyday on my 40 minute drive to and from work. quality is soooooo much better than my FM transmitter and i dont have to keep searching for a clear station while im driving! I would definitely recommend it! I havent faced any of the problems other users have stated.
Works Well     On: 2007-07-17

Does everything it should and more. The reversible cable is well done. The cable is spring-curled which makes it less of a mess. Construction quality is very good.
works great after following auto reverse review     On: 2007-07-14

After I followed the steps from the review a few months ago this item works great. I had to follow each step exactly but if you have a auto reverse tape deck this will not work until you remove the gear properly.
great buy     On: 2007-07-10

Works with no problems in my little honda civic cassette player, the coiled cord is great and keeps it from getting all tangled up. I am very satisfied with the price and my purchase overall
Great device     On: 2007-06-27

I had to make my car volume louder but it worked perfectly fine. It even ejected itself when my car was getting too hot to avoid damage.
My car cassette player hated this!     On: 2007-06-11

I am sure this might work well for people whose cassette players dont do auto-reverse, but I cant turn that feature off in mine, so my iPod played for about 30 seconds and then turned off. Drove me nuts!!! It worked when the car wasnt actually moving, so maybe its just my player, but I returned it and got something better...
Coby CA-747 Dual Position CD/MD/MP3 Cassette Adapter     On: 2007-06-01

Its worth the money you pay for it! Good sound...very user friendly...and absolutely handy on long road trips on highways with boring scenery!
Fixing the auto reverse problem     On: 2007-05-25

I just received my unit and was aware of the possible problem with auto reverse when I bought it. But being unhappy with the quality of FM transmitters, I thought the price was worth the risk. When I plugged the Coby into my car cassette it did a couple of auto reverses and then spit the Coby out. Having read the review from 3/07 about taking the unit apart and removing the center gear, I got out my small Philips and had at it(2 screws on one side and a bunch on the other). Be careful because the parts inside the cassette fall out pretty easily. But removing the center gear worked and the sound is very good except for a little clatter from the cassette. I would guess highway noise will cover that up.

Cheap and easy. We bought two and use them in two different car stereos with two generations of iPod.
ejects all he time     On: 2007-05-13

The Cassette adapter ejects all the time from my car stereo. I tried in other stereos as well. Did not bother to send it back because of the postage expense.
Deficient     On: 2007-05-13

Failed to work, had to spend time to send back. Bought one at Walamart for less money and it is still working.
This adapter is great!     On: 2007-05-12

This adapter is great! - Dont waste your money on a fm transmitter - we bought one that cost $80 and returned it - bought this little cassette adapter and it works great! Have had it now for about 1 month and no problems ...

Coby CA-747 Dual Position CD/MD/MP3 Cassette Adapter     On: 2007-05-12

I shouldve given this product 2 stars but i guess its pretty ok. I bought this item about 3 weeks ago. It had better sound quality than the cassette adapter i was using before. After using it for only a couple weeks, it stopped working properly. I was listening to my mp3 player through the adapter and it just suddenly stopped. I used my finger, trying to spin the cassettes teeth but felt that there was a little bit of friction. Because of the friction, the tapedeck couldnt spin the teeth causing it to stop. The problem still persist.
Excellent Product     On: 2007-05-10

Im very satisfied with the purchase of this product! Now, with a very little investment, Im able to enjoy my ipod while in my vehicle. I would recommend this product without any reservation.
Didn't work with my Toyota Camry!     On: 2007-05-02

I bought this to fit it in my Toyota Camry V6. i couldnt make it to work with my tape system at all. I returned this item and Amazon was prompt with the refund.

Reliable, a bit noisy when hot     On: 2007-04-24

Ive been using one of these for over a year, mostly for listening to audiobooks and podcasts. Sound quality for those is excellent. The only negative Ive found is that when the unit is hot its reels tend to click a bit noisily. Since I dont see this mentioned as a significant problem in other reviews it may be an issue with my unit. Keeping the adapter in a cool spot in the car or bringing it indoors are the workarounds.
Works Flawlessly.....Until     On: 2007-04-13

I bought this adapter for my car, it works flawlessly!! However, there is this a warning that says not to leave the adapter in the cassette player while the car is off...I did it just once overnight and it was ruined, luckily, these can be picked up economically. I highly recommend this adapter...and I highly recommend not leaving in the cassette player.

Good price and a fine item for listening to your music. I recommend this item to everyone.
excellent prodct!!!     On: 2007-04-04

I dont want to spend my time on writing those reviews. But, this one is so good that I am compelled to write one. Ive used other brands like sony, maxell, etc. They suck. Especially, the maxell one, I used for three days, for totaly of appx 2hrs. It almost riped my car speakers. This COBY one, the spring cord is very very convenient and looks good (I thought of those big spring wire, but actually its very narrow wired cord that looks neat. It also generates good quality sound. Its going to worth your money.
Great deal     On: 2007-04-03

I havent had any problems with this adapter. It sounds better than our fm transmitters and is easy to use. Really good bargain.
Works with IPod Nano     On: 2007-04-01

This product works with my 4 GB IPod Nano. Of course the sound quality is cassette quality, but this product cost me only $7, so its an excellent deal. Ive never tried an FM transmitter, but Im sure this works way better than an FM transmitter.
does it job     On: 2007-04-01

this is a cheap alternative to a price way to hear you mp3. for now this works but most new cars are being made with preinstalled hook ups. so its slowy going away. my only problem is sometimes i have the manualy twist the spining players because they lock up once its been played for so long. in my tape deck it trys to switch back and forth from side A to B. has to do with auto reverse i think. not a big deal one i figured it out. though made me mad until i did.
having problems with an auto-reverse tape deck?
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-03-27

I bought this product and found like many other people out there that if you have a tape deck with an auto-reverse feature, that youll have some problems with just about any cassette adapter. After looking online, I found out how to fix most brands, but not this one. So after tooling around for about half an hour, I figured out how to get this cassette adapter to work in an auto-reverse tape deck. If you open the adapter and look inside, youll see a small gear between one of the center teeth wheels and the little assembly that contains the guide wheel near the edge of the adapter that can only rotate in one direction. Remove this small gear. This will allow the tape to spin freely in either direction. If you look at the guide wheel, youll notice that it can shift to two positions. One that protrudes closer to the outside of the adapter and one that has it sit more inside the adapter. Tape this piece so that it stays permanently in one of these two positions. That guide wheel moving is how the auto-reverse in your tape deck knows to activate. After I made these changes, I found that the adapter worked in my Ford tape deck flawlessly. No need for an FM transmitter, after all! Hope this helps those of you with the same problem!
Best $7 I've Spent In a Long Time     On: 2007-03-27

This works great in my VW Cabrio, making it very easy to listen to my iPod. I always struggled to find a radio frequency with the more expensive wireless transmitters -- this is both better and less expensive!
What a Surprise     On: 2007-03-22

I recently started fooling around with an MP3 player for the 1st time. I had just bought a Xitel Inport Deluxe that lets me turn all my old records and cassettes into MP3 files. How to get them to play through my cars sound system? FM modulators sounded really iffy. Could something that costs $7 really do the job? The cord on the Coby can be plugged in in 2 different directions, from the back or from the side. It came with the cord in the back. I plugged it in and nothing came out of my speakers. Then I read the directions and plugged the cord into the side of the cassette, as soon as it went into the tape deck, this wonderful music came out of my speakers.
Great deal!
Great Cassatte Adapter.     On: 2007-03-08

Really great. I used to think COBY is a cheap brand. But I have been using this cassette adapter for almost one year and its really amazing. Way better than any FM transmitter in the market. I have used like 5 different FM transmitters with my ipod and wasnt satisfied with any of them. My Infiniti comes with Bose sound and at a point I was thinking to spend like 250$ and get an ipod adapter that connects directly to my sound system. Thanks god, before doing that I deceided to give this cassette adapter a try. Good for any mp3 player.
Great tape adapter     On: 2007-02-19

I bought this tape adapter to use with my iPod and its great. Theres no tape hiss unless I turn my stereo volumn way up, and I havent had any problems with it. Highly recommended.
Works great, but NOT IF YOU HAVE AUTO REVERSE!!!     On: 2007-02-17

Yeah, I know, they warned me; but I thought I was smarter than the average bear- not so.

If you have auto reverse on your tape player and you cannot shut the feature off, this will not work. It may work for a few minutes at a time, but will always end up frustrating you by switching every few minutes.

If you can turn off the auto reverse (or dont have it), its a very solid product that sounded great.

For those like me who need a FM transmitter instead of the tape version, Id suggest the Soundkase FM Transmitter for iPod & MP3s. Weve been using it for a week or 2 with good results (and from my research, probably the best results you can get if you cant use a tape connection).
It works     On: 2007-02-16

Works like it is supposed to. TThe different positions are a bonus too. Only problem is I only have 1 car with a tape deck, and I never drive it.
Wonderful! And no more interference w/ radio stations!     On: 2007-02-04

I used to use an FM transmitter device with my iPod when in the car. It worked *OK*, but on long trips (and even sometimes around town), I would get interference from local stations and have to hunt for an open band. And the sound quality just wasnt that great.

With the COBY device, that has all changed. The sound quality is much, much better than I ever got with the FM devices (Ive tried multiple). The coiled cord extends long enough that I can even have the iPod on the passenger seat if I want to ...and the pigtail cord gets short enough that I can place the iPod on the console in between the seats without the cord dangling all over the place. This is just a simple, well-done device, performing extremely well and a very reasonable price. How can you beat that?
Quality product with Functionaly too!     On: 2007-01-31

This worked perfect for my ipod nano and my Audi A4. The ability to change where the wire comes from (top or side) worked great. This will allow me to switch between vehicles and not worry about ruining the wire.
Play my mp3s in the car     On: 2007-01-18

I have a cassette player in my car and wanted to be able to plug my MP3 player into it. This adapter looks like a cassette with a wire coming out of the end. It slides into my car player and when I plug it up to my mp3 player, it plays through the system with no problem. I have not had any trouble from it yet as others have written about. I went on a trip 2 weeks ago and used it for several hours. It worked great. The wire can be changed to come out of the side or the back, depending on which way your auto player is oriented.
great inexpensive option!     On: 2007-01-16

if you want to listen to your ipod and you have an old car with a cassette player, this is the best and most inexpensve way to go! works without a glitch.
Constant Humming Noise     On: 2007-01-13

I bought this cassette adapter for my Zune and as long as the song has a high level of bass and treble this works perfectly. But if it doesnt then while the song is playing you hear a constant humming noise that increases as you accelerate. At first I thought it was my car so I tried it in 2 other cars and they all had the same problem. If this problem was eliminated the product would be perfect.
Works great w/MP3 and coiled cord minimizes clutter     On: 2007-01-11

Ive been using it for about a month and have no complaints. I had tried 2 FM transmitters, but both didnt have the power to play static free. With this cassette converter music comes through loud and clear. You can plug it into any standard headphone jack receiver, so should work w/DVD player as well.
Works but sound quality not reliable     On: 2007-01-11

It works. But sometimes the sound quality and volume fluctuate, especially when the road bumps a little. The instruction says you should when the sound dims you can turn the tape to the other side, or take out and put it back into the cassette player again. It usually does the trick but just annoying.
Good     On: 2007-01-11

This item worked fine and sounded clear in the car however it broke after about 2 months because the chord came off. I think it was a little fragile
great value... no real problems yet     On: 2007-01-10

I know some people have had issues with these kinds of adapters getting spit out of their tape decks and this is the first time for me using this kind of adapter in my car. i have to say that for the price i paid, i am extremely happy with the product i received. it doesnt always work the first try and sometimes gets spit out but its been perfect for the last month or so. i guess it depends on your car.

i took a chance because i knew it potentially wouldnt work in my car but this thing is only like $7. it was well worth it for me. i could give up 2 trips to mcDonalds and save enough money to pay for this.

if this product worked every time, id give it a 5 but its not perfect but very much worth the money i paid for it. 4.5 stars if i could.
You get more than you paid for...     On: 2007-01-05

This is a great product. The sound quality is amazing and the flexibility of the adapter (front or side load) is a great plus. Theres no need to spend $20+ for a cassette adapter. This is just as good (if not better) than the name brands.
good value     On: 2006-12-19

I thought about a FM transmitter for playing my mp3 in the car. however, several of my friends have them and the sound quality is fair at best. they arent cheap either. I bought this adapter for $7 and it sounds very good. havent had any issues with quality, but I havent used it that much either.
Wanted to like it, but...     On: 2006-11-11

When I first started using this, I loved it. It worked fine in my car cassette deck and had decent sound. In fact, I bought a second one for my wife. Then, after about two weeks, it stopped working. It would no longer play in my cassette deck, which ejected it as soon as I put it in every time. I tried contacting Cobys support on the Web, but they were unresponsive. Luckily, Amazon took it back for a refund. Note that they no longer sell these directly. Bet they had too many returns...
Good, sort of     On: 2006-11-11

I got this product because I have an older car with no cd player. I have an I-pod Nano and wanted to use it in the car. For the price the adapter has a great sound however my cassette player kept ejecting it. Sometimes I could go days with out it ejecting and then it would just spit it out. I finaly gave up and installed a hard wired fm modulator. Im not sure if other people with different cars would have the same problem
great product...     On: 2006-11-10

i first bought a monster product equivalent in bestbuy, and it absolutely sucked. after buying this i am very happy i did. It works just how it says it does.
Amazing quality.     On: 2006-11-06

Before I had this, I had a generic cassette adapter. The sound was horrible and it made a terrible, tinny echo. I bought it for my Ford Taurus which costs $800 to add a CD changer to. My wireless FM adapter sounded better than my generic cassette adapter, and it was static city since the antenna is on the opposite side of the car (station wagon).

I was pleasantly surprised when I got this adapter to replace my old one. The sound quality is better than the strongest FM station here, and the coiled cord really reduces the mess in my car. I only had one problem with this, and I think that is because of my car stereo, but I will note it anyway.

After 10 minutes of playing, my car stereo would switch to side 2, then side 1, and display TDE1 and eject the tape. After getting very angry, I found a solution. Simply take the adapter apart, spray WD40 on all the gears, and remove the small gear assembly that prevents the rape from being rewound (was this even necessary? there is no physical tape so it doesnt matter if someone tries to rewind it). Problem solved!

I would definitely get this over any other adapter.

Great product! For two days!     On: 2006-10-27

When this adapter first arrived, I thought it was great. The sound quality was excellent, and free of all the distortion and interference I get from using an FM transmitter-style adapter (there are few open frequencies in the SF Bay Area). The first day, I used it for about 20 minutes total (didnt have far to drive), and it worked great. The second day I had a bit farther to drive. After about 30 minutes, it quit. Hasnt worked again since.

I didnt expect it to last forever, but less than an hour?

Yes, it has a 1 year warranty: just send the unit back with a money order ($6) to cover the return postage. Of course, then youre spending more in postage than you originally spent for the unit...
Worked great for a couple of days....     On: 2006-10-04

I was so excited about how great this product worked when I got it. I had purchased the FM transmitter for my wife and they do not work so great so I thought since my car had a tape deck I would give this a try. I was excited that I had all my ipod music with me, BUT after less than a week it the sound started going down hill to a point where I couldnt listen anymore with it. It is now in a landfill somewhere. My guess is I will need a radio in the car that is ipod compatiable cable. For now just have the radio and CDs I burn.
Well designed product.     On: 2006-09-12

Somebody was thinking when they designed this adapter. The plug that works for either style cassete player, the one where the small end of the cassete goes in first, or the one where the wide side goes in first. Plus the curly cord that doesnt get in the way. The big bonus is the price, its half the cost of the Monster adapter, and it works great. The reviews of the Monster adapter are very poor. I first bought a DLO Transpod 2 FM Transmitter, big mistake. The sound was about 80% static as there wasnt any line of sight between the Transpod and the car antenna. If you have a car where the antenna is molded into the rear window, it probably would work better. Anyway this adapter and my iPod sound great over my car stereo. There are a few car cassette players that wont work with a adapter, if one adapter doesnt work, none will.
Quality cassette adapter     On: 2006-09-11

I agree with the others that have provided a favorable review. I am pleasantly surprised with many aspects of the product. It feels like a quality product. It is very quiet in the player having only a light sound of "clicking", which does not impair the reproduction of the music. The sound is very clear and not distorted. I am very pleased with it.
YYYAYYY!     On: 2006-08-11

Its very convenient and simple to use - gets job done & makes the car ride so much smoother. Maybe it seemed a little quiet, but that depends on the volume adjustings... I might buy another for the other car. And, its value definitely exceeds the price that I paid. :)
Doesn't Work With Every Vehicle     On: 2006-08-03

This adapter would not work AT ALL in my 1996 Ford Ranger. The vehicles cassette player kept ejecting it. However, it DID work in a co-workers 1993 Ford Ranger. It also would not work in a 1993 Monte Carlo...same problem.
Another tip for systems that eject the Coby CA-747     On: 2006-07-19

Clean the heads of the cassette deck per the usual schedule. My Coby CA-747 works exactly as it should as long as I keep the heads clean.

Great value for the price, particularly if you just want to hear your portable over the car speakers and youre not looking for the highest fidelity. And still sounds infinitely better than the wireless FM transmitter I replaced.
Excellent product.     On: 2006-07-04

I have been using this Coby CA-747 Cassette Adapter for more than 2 years to use my car stereo to play audio of my DVD-player and CD-player. Until lately, my car tape player kept rejecting it out. I thought it was broken and I was about to buy this same product from Amaonz again. While reading some other peoples reviews, I bump into R. Pennys feedback on 10/26/05 about the "skip" mode as following:

"One thing to keep in mind when using any product like this - some (but not all) car tape players have a "skip" mode. When a tape players "skip" mode is active, it listens for silent portions of the tape. If it is detects any silence for more than a few seconds, it will automatically go into fast forward until it "hears" sound again. If your tape player has a "skip" mode, be sure to cancel this mode - i.e., put the player in "normal" play mode. Otherwise, you will find the tape player trying to "fast forward" over any silent portions of your audio feed."

This is exactly the problem that I was having. By turning off the "skip" mode of the car tape player, my car tape player does not reject the Coby Cassette Adapter anymore.

Again, even if it is indeed broken, I will buy the same product again. Very good product for the money.

Excellent Product     On: 2006-05-25

I decided to try this product on the reviews and the price. I was surprised of the quality. The sound is very acceptable considering it is going through a cassette deck. I tried Monsters product and took it back. It was awful and 3 times the price. This is a good cheap solution to use your MP3 in your car.
Simply Flawless     On: 2006-05-18

Fantastic product! Id pay 3x what I did. As good as CD quality, near silent operation (no clicking or ticking or anything), fantastic product.

Highly recommended. I threw away all of my other cassette adapters after I heard this one.
Excellent for XM reception problems     On: 2006-04-06

I live in Washington, DC, and my XM car radio set up has been consistently problematic in getting good wireless radio reception in the district. I popped the COBY adapter into my cassette player on my Prius and it immediately gave me excellent reception. Furthermore its easy to pop in and out and looks fine. Furthermore, I can keep all of my other setup for my Panasonic XM to Go (charging and antenna)... meaning that leaving the district I can go back to using the wireless radio capacity. Excellent solution for a few bucks!
This is the one to buy     On: 2006-04-01

Three different casette adapters are scattered on the back seat of my car - one XM, one Sony, one RCA, all thrown back there in disgust after they started spontaneously popping out of my cassette player and/or squeaking and rattling at intolerably high decibel levels. I went looking for a higher quality unit for use with my XM radio. I considered one by Monster but read bad reviews; finally settled on this one and Im very happy with it after two weeks. Its silent, it stays put, and its coiled cord and and two-way plug show a little imagination in design and care in manufacture. If it starts squeaking Ill let you know.
Great product...excellent way to listen to your MP3 in your car     On: 2006-03-15

The sound is pretty close to CD quality when you use your MP3 player. Great alternative to the FM signal adapter. You dont have to worry about static or other noises except your music.
It lasted a week, then it died     On: 2006-02-11

I have gone through three Belkin cassette adapters that have failed so I closely read reviews before purchasing my next adapter. This unit had many good reviews so I tried it. It worked well for a week then, just went dead. Rapping in on a table caused it to start working for a couple hours, then it died again.
Finally found one that works     On: 2006-02-10

I dont usually post reviews, but I thought Id share my experience to help others save some time. After much frustration trying other brands/car adapters (including 2 tapes: Griffin smartdeck & Monster, and 1 fm transmitter: Monster w/ battery charger) for my ipod, then returning them because they did not work or the sound was not great, this one made me happy because it works exactly like I thought it should. Pretty quiet, and works with my nano ipod, and cassette player in a 2001 honda accord. At first, I couldnt get it work, but then I auto reversed so that the arrow points up. After that, it fell into place. Set my nano volume at about 60-75% and started receiving clear, amazing results.
Finally, a cassette adapter that works!     On: 2006-02-01

After trying 5 other brands, this is the only casette adapter that has lasted. No more "spitting" out the tape from the player. Its reliable and actually less expensive than the other brands!
I've tried 3 Cassette adaptors over the years with CD players     On: 2006-01-29

And this one has a sturdy plug in clip to change from side loading to back loading Cassette. with sturdy coiled wire that looks like it will last a long time.
And good sound quality.
I use it with my iPOD. Yea you buy an iPOD adapator and they want $30 - $80. and radio adaptors are often hard to find a noise free station in a crowded market.
Hey try this one first... wire sounds better that radio frequency adaptors to me...and cheaper to boot!
Perfect     On: 2006-01-24

This inexpensive device works perfectly with my various mp3 players. It is quiet and reliable. No complaints.
The Coby works great!     On: 2006-01-07

I just got mine, and have tried it in two different front loading car players. It sounds terrific in both. However, the second player is smart, and almost outsmarted me. :-) I found that, if the music isnt playing through the Coby when it is inserted, the player doesnt think a tape is there, and it wont enter play mode. If you turn the volume all the way up, you can hear a fuzzy version of the music anyway, which confused me for an hour or so. Once I realized the music needed to be on, and the Coby plugged into my iPod before putting it into the cassette player, it started working perfectly. Keep this in mind if you have trouble with yours...
Highly recommended!
Best adapter out there     On: 2005-12-22

This is the car adapter everyone should get. Just got it for my ipod in my Honda Accord. When I first popped it in, I thought quality was alright but fuzzy, until I started tuning my stereo and ipod. I set my ipod to half volume (great uses less battery!!) and set the car bass a little lower and BOOM. I had near PERFECT quality from this tape. This is my second experience buying a cassette adapter, and my first one kept popping out the cassette player of my car with horrible quality. However this adapter works great. The wire is coiled and very convenient. Highly recommended. Just look at all the good reviews on this product.
Not bad at all...     On: 2005-12-21

This is pretty self explanatory. This cassette adapter works great, I dont have any complaints. It is cheap and effective. As another review mentioned before, I first inserted the cassette adapter and the sound was horrible. But then I flipped it over and it worked perfectly. So dont let that repel you from buying this particular cassette adapter. The only small gripe I have with it is that it should have come with a case or protector of some sort.
Better than expected!     On: 2005-12-19

Just got my BMW 330 convertible and had been despiring of ever using my iPod in it. I had listened to friends Griffin iTrip and other such FM transmitters and I had always been underwhelmed about the quality of sound. Seemed like it was better to listen to the AM stations instead ... Anyway, Id read about the Coby cassette adapter online and so stumbled onto it at an electronics shop (Harvey Norman). Seemed pretty cheap at S$16.00 (approx. US$10) and when I plugged it into my car, I was blown away by the ease of use and quality of sound. Have had it for less than a week but nevertheless, great stuff!
Inexpensive and works     On: 2005-12-06

Bought this item for my 40GB IPOD, almost bought the itrip but Im glad I didnt b/c this little tape works perfectly. The cassette adapter is quiet and works perfectly with the IPOD! Also, the cord is long but doesnt get in the way. I recommend!
works great!     On: 2005-11-30

I bought the Coby CA-747 cassette adapter because I bought an MP3 player and wanted to listen to it in my car which only has a cassette player. It works perfectly and was a great price. A friend of mine has one of those radio transmitter things and the sound quality is not nearly as good. If you need a tape adapter I highly recommend this one.
Excellent Product     On: 2005-10-26

This is an excellent product. I have been using it to connect my portable MP3 player to my car audio system. I have been using it daily for over a month and it work EXACTLY as it should. The sound is truely excellent and indistinguishable in quality from my car radio or CD player. The construction quality also seems to be excellent.

One thing I especially like is the coiled cord. I had used a similar product some years ago and the long connecting cord was always an inconvenience - it would hang down and get in the way during use. When you wanted to store the item in the glove box, it would just add to the clutter. With this product the cord stays neatly coiled and out of the way - it does not clutter the dashboard or floor area and is easy to store.

One thing to keep in mind when using any product like this - some (but not all) car tape players have a "skip" mode. Otherwise, you will find the tape player trying to "fast forward" over any silent portions of your audio feed.

I would highly recommend this product.

Highly recommend it.
Couldn't Live Without It     On: 2005-08-07

I noticed a bad review here and Im not sure what that person is doing wrong because Ive had my Cassette Adapter for a long time now and have had absolutely no problems with it. I use it every single day, since all my music is on my MP3 player and Im always driving. It works exactly as its supposed to and its cheap. Theres absolutely no need to go out and buy an expensive adapter when this one works great.

Works as it is supposed to     On: 2004-11-11

I was skeptical after reading lots of bad reviews of cassette adapters, but this Coby CA-747 worked like a charm. Sound is pretty alright, a little muffled when the EQ of my player was used with too high bass, but thats more of the fault with the sound system. Heard some mechanical sounds when I first inserted the adapter into the car player, but nothing out of the ordinary happened. The stretch type cable means no long messy cables lying around.
