Broke down after a year     On: 2007-01-12

Worked fine during the year I had it. no complaints picture good sound good. but you think if you spend around a hundred dollars it would last longer. I had a vcr that lasted over 14 years. I complained to customer service about it and they were just plain rude. I found after reading some of the good reviews that people havent had the thing for too long. Give them a year or so and they will be writing a bad review.
Good enough DVD player with 5 disc changer     On: 2005-06-13

I bought this one year back. Since then I have used it for all types of CDs/DVDs. It delivers what it says. Pretty much impressed.
Broke down on me within 8 months     On: 2005-03-18

This piece of junk broke down on me within a year. It began stuttering on playback and skipping on perfectly good disks (that played perfectly in my other players). The warranty only covers parts in the first year so I would have had to pay for labor to get it fixed.
Worked great for 9 months     On: 2004-12-22

In the first 9 months we had it, it was great. Picture quality is amazing when hooked up to a 50" plasma. I really love the multi-disc feature because you can watch a movie thats on more than one disc without getting up to swap discs out. This is particularly handy when you are watching a TV show.

I cant speak to audio CD playback ability, I havent used it.

After 9 months of pretty heavy use (we dont watch regular TV anymore, almost exclusively DVDs) it decided that it wasnt going to play anymore. It now plays for about 20 minutes and then starts to freeze. There is nothing you can do correct this. Reinsterting the disc does nothing. Its even hit the point where it will randomly not recognize a disc anymore.

It was a great player while it lasted, the operation was intuitive. I only wish it would have lasted longer. I had a carousel CD player at one point that lasted for 6 years of heavy use so you can build a good carousel player.

Guess Ill give Sony another shot.
Buyer Beware     On: 2004-11-13

Over the past few years Panasonic has been selling DVD players with motors that burn out after about 1 year. My player was an S35 and it lasted nine months. Panasonic has done nothing to address this situation. If you really want the Panasonic, scour the Web before you buy to make sure that there arent a lot of complaints out there. Then cross you fingers.

Very good player     On: 2004-05-22

It plays everything Ive put in it - DVD, DVD+R, CD-R, CD-RW, CDs with MP3s on them, and does a much better job of it than my old Toshiba 2200. The picture is better than the older Toshiba, sharper and smoother with much better color. Try the enhanced black level setting in the setup menu - it makes things look better on my Trinitron. Its also very slim, as the name suggests, if you care about that kind of thing. You can probably get better performance out of a more expensive player, but I havent seen anything better at this price.
Very good video quality, excellent compatibility     On: 2004-04-18

This DVD player will play ALL of your CDs/DVDs (including DVD-R, DVD-RW, SVCD, VCD, MP3, CDR, CDRW). Has not failed to play any of my discs. Video quality is very good. This is a great step-up from the cheap Apex DVD players that many people buy; it has many more features and higher quality but it is still priced reasonably. A complaint is the loading time, but it is bearable.
One of the people who gave a bad rating said that they bought the player out of country and it didnt work; thats their fault for buying a broken player from Mexico. And another person gave a bad rating because it wouldnt play 5 DVDs at one time...so you can increase the overall rating of this unit accordingly.
Nice look even better play!     On: 2004-03-12

Great Dvd player best picture and a great amount of little things you can tweak to your own liking. I researched Dvd players for a week until a came to this dicision and Im very glad I did,a friend bought a 5-disc player the same time I did but a diffrent brand(I wount say which or this review may not show. Ill just say it is a large company that starts with an S) Sometimes we go to his house and watch THe Man Show on Dvd and its always skipping all his movies do alot of skipping with his player and I try them at my house on this Panasonic and they work fine.Usually when his player starts skipping I give him a smartbut kinda laugh just to tease him and all he can say is that his player is easier to use than mine,I always laugh much harder when he says that,it may be true But keep this in mind,A Dodge Viper may be harder to drive than a Nissan Altima but give me the Viper anyday. This may sound a litttle blown out of proportion but to me my Home Theatre and Dvd player are my Dodge Viper!
Great picture and sound     On: 2004-03-10

If you know panasonic dvd players you may know how well their sound and picture are, this player is no ecseption.I have read some people found the remote to small, after a few nights practicing i come to like this remote more than any i owned, the buttons are right were they should be and easy in the dark(after practicing).I have three dvd players and have tried many others this one has the best picture and sound quality out of any, and there is nothing to compare with how many options you have to play with. While researching a good 5 disc player to buy i read some reviews saying this player was difficult to hookup and understand the settings,Im not a total idiot but im sure not an electronics expert and i had no problems understaning this player,i did have to refer to the manual for the first couple nights but im sure glad i did this thing is loaded with features.Great value
After about six months now no problems     On: 2004-03-10

Exellent player Ive had for six months and had no problems great picture and sound quality,I use the Double Remastering all the time for listning to my CDs.I cant believe how inexpensive it is.
Jusy as good as the praised 35 models     On: 2004-03-09

I cant belive there is a reviewer on here who gave this player 1 star becouse it couldnt play 5 dvds at once, who has every heard of such a stupid thing.look if your that dumdfounded by electronics go spend $60 on a cheap-o player,if your slightly more inteligent than that and you want a player that performs with better picture, sound, and features look no further.I review just about every new player that comes out especially panasonic, ive taken a liken to the great perfomance these machines have.True there are some minor things that could have been better . larger display would have been better but i seat rather close so i can read it just fine.If you want performance buy this.If you want simple/stupid not having to read the directions ,well...stay with your vcr becouse to enjoy a great player you may have to read a manual a couple times and devote a full night to just setting everything up just right(theres alot of bells and whistles in the menu display)if you can do that this is the only 5 disc player right now that ive had no trouble with.
Bad!
by: Anonymous    On: 2004-02-08

This DVD player did not work well for me. The motor that drives the carousel is very weak and even when it worked it barely moved the tray at all then finally just quit totally.
I think if you are going to spend this kind of money - not much, that is - on a DVD player, you should buy a single drive type rather than a spinner. There is just not enough quality in this thing to make it work effectively, its more of a hassle than its worth. Try getting an Apex single player if you are cheap like me and just want something that works.
Great Player for the Price!     On: 2003-12-29

After studying the many DVD players on he market that played the different formats, I decided to take a chance on this unit. First of all the price was right, not too cheap, not too expensive. Secondly, it plays all the formats that I wanted it too since my original sony single bay DVD player couldnt play any format other than a movie. Third, it had the component video and progressive scan options I was looking for which are a big plus for the Home Theater guru like myself. Finally I knew the Panasonic name is pretty well known in the electronics industry. After giving it a good working over for a few months now I would HIGHLY recommend this DVD player. The only 2 downfalls to this player in my opionion (the reason for the 4 stars, Id actually give it 4.5 stars) is #1: The remote and its tiny buttons. Its hard to get use to and feel around on the remote if you have big paws. Luckily I find myself not really using the remote a lot so other than that, no complaints really. #2: It helps if you remember what bay # you put the DVD in to play becuase of the reading process it has to do when you insert a disc. If you dont take note what bay has which disc, then you have to go through and read all 5 bays. That seems to be the only major weakness. But a press of one button on the remote and the unit reads all the discs (which takes a few seconds) then shows you a menu on your TV what format every disc is in the player.

It has played my VCDs perfect after making them with the nero software on my computer. Ive enjoyed many JPEG cds Ive made, and it also plays my MP3 cds perfectly. It has a nice nametag menu for the mp3s for ease of searching for songs. I love that feature! And of course the DVD movies are great. Also a big plus is the 5 bay carousel and what I really like is that you can change DVDs in the other 4 bays without stopping play. One more thing that I would definitely recommend is to splurge and get a component cable (I bought the Acoustic Research AP091 cable) and go that route for the hookup. I noticed a BIG difference in the video clarity and the colors are so much more vibrant it is truly amazing. I had been using an S-video cable on my last DVD player and upgraded hesitantly to the component video on this unit. I thought the component hookup was hype, but it does make a difference playing on a good TV. This unit is being used with a 43" Hitachi digital TV and the video is amazing. Especially for the JPEG photos that you can view. Great for creating family photo albums!

So far This unit works great and has performed up to my standards and beyond. There may be better units out there or cheaper ones that might do as well but for the money this one is perfect in my opinion. All the cds Ive made have worked fine after converting them to the different formats on my computer. Bottom line, I have had no problems playing anything on this fine unit and found it is worth the money.

Major reliability issue
by: Anonymous    On: 2003-12-13

I bought this player and the motor died within 10 mos. making it worthless (new motor is $90). This seems to be a common problem with Panasonic DVD players after researching on the internet.

Other details of this model:
--Cant directly access disks from unit (no Disk 1, 2, etc. buttons), only from remote
--Slow and very frustrating disk exchange process
--Picture quality was very good

only plays one at a time!     On: 2003-10-04

I bought this DVD player because I thought you can play 5 movies at a time. It doesnt! It only plays one, and the other 4 just sit there in the machine and do nothing. If you want to see five movies at once, youll have to buy 5 different DVD players. Thats too many, and you still have to watch them one at a time.
Worthless Defective Unit     On: 2003-09-01

I made the mistake to bring this item outside USA and as soon as I got it, I found out that the unit was defective and unable to play any DVD. The Panasonic technician said that the problem was impossible to fix ("digital card" and "servo" damaged) and also, that the warranty was void outside USA. Nobody at Panasonic Customers Service was able or willing to help. This useless DVD player at least can play factory CDs but has problems reading some CD-Rs (distorted audio signal). And the CD changer is incredibly noisy every time it changes from one CD to another. Finally, it takes almost 20 seconds to read any CD. Noisy carrousel, slow reading and defective construction. Worst buy ever.
Great DVD Player! Lousy Cd Player....
by: sexy-beast    On: 2003-07-19

Well, were do I start? After a fair amount of research I decided that this was the unit. Hook up was straight forward, but the instructions are like reading a chapter in your high school trigonometry book. DVD picture and play back qualities are trememdous! I cant give enough praise! Better than my JVC unit. I initially bought this player to kill two birds with one stone. My first generation DVD player(5yrs old) was starting to have issues, so I thought why not replace it along with my 5 disc CD carousel This would eliminate one too many components. While in itself a good idea, the capabilities of the Panasonic unit have much to be desired for CD format. First off you cannot shuffle songs at random on a fully or partially loaded tray, nor can you program specifc songs for a play list. Because the Panasonic unit plays CDs through your DVD channel, the only options for sound playback are Dolby surround, and or stereo. A CD player that plays through its Cd channel on your tuner can allow many more options, such as concert, stereo, hall, jazz, Surround simulated, etc. This of course only applies if you have a Stereo tuner with a 5.1 surround system. I also want to mention that the message window on this unit is so small you have to squint to see which track is playing. I want to love this unit, but if not for its short commings on CD playback and options, Im left lamenting for a better versatile unit. In conclusion I would have to rate this unit 3 & 3/4 stars out of 5. I am considering trading it for the Panasonic S35K, which is a single disc tray with the same stuff. ...
Best MP3 DVD changer     On: 2003-05-25

I have no idea what the previous reviewer is talking about. I own this unit and I love it. It displays full MP3 tags on your TV and various bit rate info and stuff. My MP3s never skipped. He must gotten a bad unit. Maybe its just an illusion, but the sound quality from the optical out was much better than my old daewoo. I thought all digital signals are the same.

The DVD carosel is very smooth and fast. No problem changing discs. The setup menu is very good with lots of options. The manual needs work. Its too cramped with info. For the price, you cant buy a better DVD MP3 changer.

Plays DVDs OK, but...     On: 2003-05-21

I was initially very excited about the advertised features and price of this unit. I got this thinking to replace my old CD changer and DVD player, plus gain MP3 capability for my stereo. WRONG.

It plays DVDs fine. If thats all you need perhaps consider it. But it couldnt play MP3s of any kind without frequent skipping, or play CD-Rs that my old (reeeal old, like probably 10 year old LOL) player handles fine. Even as a simple CD changer it was slow and clumsy to use and would have been unsatisfactory. I was especially disappointed and surprised at Panasonic; this was more what I might have expected from a no-name brand.

So there ya go, dont get this unless you only want to play DVDs on it.

Great value for the money     On: 2003-05-15

Likes: Slim (2 inches tall), Quiet disc tray mechanism, recognizes and starts up DVDs fast, handles scratched/worn discs well, easy to use onscreen menu.

Dislikes: It takes 5 seconds to recognize an audio CD. The disc tray contents display consists of just 5 LEDs. I thought that was rather cheap for a Panasonic player. Trays with discs in them should have displayed lighted numbers instead. The main display is also small, and the disc indicator, consisting of numbers with circles around them, doesnt seem to work right (I need to debug this further by reading the manual in more detail). I tried these things out without reading the manual to see how easy the product is to use. However, these are just cosmetic issues, and theres nothing fundamentally wrong with this product. For [the price], the value cant be beat.
