I have had this 47" Panasonic TV for almost 4 years now. I bought from C.C. for $999.99 in July 2004 on SALE and I was impressed then & I am STILL impressed now with the picture quality of this TV.
Since 2004, technology has changed, but I am running a 1080i upconvert Panasonic DVD player & have Cable with HD channels running to this TV and WOW. What a NICE picture.
I really would like to get a NEWER TV, maybe 50" - 60" size, but this Panasonic is just soooooo nice! I cant see spending $1500+ just to have a newer TV when this one does the job so well!!
**I kinda wish I would have bought the SAME PANASONIC MODEL in the 52" size at the time I bought this one......it was ON SALE for $1399.99 I remember. Oh, well. I am one very happy customer with this 47" Panasonic TV!!

TV is a good TV and I had not one problem with it, other than the burn-in on the sides from watching standard broadcast shows, until I learned after trying to claim it under warranty that the image had to be stretched on non-HDTV shows. Otherwise it was a great TV until today....it looks as if someone decided to put a magnet on it and totally distorts the image....apparently from what i read online, the convergence board appears to have died. For a 4 yr old TV, I was just waiting for something to go wrong with it, since I only had warranty on it for 2 yrs, so Murphys Law reared its ugly head. I just wish TV makers would make TVs that last as long as they used to last. Ive had a CRT go bad that was only 2 yrs old and now this rear proj TV. Next TV I get I know will be a flat panel of some type, but make sure I get appropriate coverage. But Ive seen TVs from the 50s and 60s still used to this day so obviously the quality of components is not what it used to be. On: 2006-11-27
I bought this HDTV in 04 and have been in love with it ever since. DVDs look awesome with progressive scan and HD cable looks so clear it feels like you are there when using component cables and 1080i. I recently purchased an XBox 360, which outputs every game in 1080i. Once again it looks great. Sorry PS2, the TV only has 2 component inputs so I cant have this plugged in anymore. I have not had any problems. The reasons I am giving this HDTV 4 out of 5 stars are the lack of 720p and 1080p display, only 2 component inputs, no HDMI input, and a DVI input that seems is not compatible with anything I own. If you only have one or two HD electronics this is the TV for you. On: 2004-10-29
Just wanted to say we bought this tv in July. It was delivered to our door and installed by the delivery men. The only problem was the shippers seemed to think Montana was in Utah. But, once we got the geography problem fixed the TV was delivered and we just love it.
Wonderful pictures, DVDs are just awesome.
I highly recomend this TV. On: 2004-09-12
i have a 350 dvd collection and i watch a lot of tv and let me tell you.. this tv is awesome, and its not true that tv shows in 4:3 format are distorded, the look the same they fit te screen without messing the image up. You need a few days to get used to the size and format but its the same has a 4:3 tv. In all the project tv i saw before buying this one .. this one has the clearest picture and more settings and alot of inputs and the Components part ... wow pictures looks awesome for dvds. Seriously this is one of the best projection tvs around. If you watch it under 16x9 all the time (wich you should) will work for years and years and years.... On: 2004-09-11

When I bought this TV in fall 03 it was by far the best value for an HDTV. Value is very subjective. I moved up from a fairly low end 27" tube to this. Compared to that, the picture is great. Compared to plasmas and LCD (direct not projection), it is certainly flawed. From 10 feet away the difference is noticable but unimportant. The only time I am aware of picture flaws is during credits. For some people that might be important and if it is I suggest spending the big dollars for a plasma or direct view LCD (or wait). For the rest of you, TV viewing habits are important. We do not watch TV (no cable, no antenna), just DVDs via a progressive scan player. 3 to 5 every week. If most of my viewing was regular (non-HD) TV, I dont think the widescreen would make sense (nor can I tell you anything about the built in tuner or PIP because we dont have a use for them). I have yet to see another name brand HDTV of this size in the just under eleven hundred dollar range. Id recommend this set for those who plan to use it mainly for DVDs and/or get HD programming (cable/sat.) and are not videophiles. As an analogy, we moved from a used Ford Fiesta (or old 27") to this Honda Accord V6 but if you currently own a Corvette, you probably should look into a Ferrari. Makes sense? On: 2004-03-16
The set I received had some problems. The user convergence of 9 point convergence, could not fix the edge convergence problems. The TV as it was originally received had screen tilt of about 3/4" to the right. The picture size was not adjusted to fit the screen (too big), and when picture was centered according to instruction manual, I noticed uneven presentation between left and right side of the screen. I had service technican come out to fix the above noted problems. Technican found that he had to manually adjust the RGB guns as well as use the service screens(software adjustments were not enough), and even after gun was adjusted, the edge convergence was not very good. The 64 point convergence screen does not allow technican to adjust the bottom and the top row of cross-hairs(very strange). So, after all these adjustments, it looked better, but, still the convergence was not very good at the edges. When each gun displayed the grid separately, some of the gun could not be made to display straight lines on some of the lines, especially the bottom line. I have other issues with this unit such as poor and insufficient manual, RF inputs that forgets channel memory when switching from cable to broadcast, and two RF input requirement of having same type of input (cannot have RF of cable, and regular broadcast), poor PIP adjustments/control etc. But, basically, this unit is going back. I recommend that you stay way from this unit. The factory settings were horribly out of spec. There must be QA problems at Panasonic. My experience with Panasonic has not been that great in recent years. After several purchases of Panasonic, this will be my last. On: 2004-03-10
I bought this TV three months ago and like everybody said before, TV has to be carefully adjust. This TV has a high contrast and default picture is too flashy, too much color but once ajusted, very very nice. Also, convergence is easy to setup with the nine points adjustment, but for best adjustment, better go into the service setup menu where you have a generated color bar where it is much more flexible to setup convergence instead of the nine points adjustment in the customer setup menu. Very happy with this TV and watching a DVD with it is simply unbelievable by: Anonymous On: 2004-02-24
This Panasonics TV manual first page said: The marking or retained image on the TV tube resaulting from viewing fix image will cause pernament damage of the TV tube. Not only this model has the burn-in problem but all CRT based PTV have some burn-in problem if viewer keep watch fixed image! Why I rate this TV for five star because I spend $1300 include shipping compared LCD based PTV will at least twice as much of the expense(think about if you spend $3000 the TV need fix after 4 years). This TV has best picture quality with highest cost efficient value. CRT base PTV is very matured technology related with plasma or LCD TV. If end user read CR magazine this year TV issue people will find out Plasma TV will consume lots of power and generate lots of heat. Also after 5 years usage Plasma TV will decrease its contrast rate up to 50%. If consumer read this TVs manual and adjust his viewing habit so the TV will be perfect and last longer! LCD base PTV wont have burn in problem but you gotta paid more! Personally my strategy is buying a CRT based PTV first and wait for LCD TV became cheaper(take at lease three year for a large screen). by: Anonymous On: 2003-12-05
this tv took me about 20 minutes to set everything up, convergence of the colors was probably the hardest part but even that wasnt too bad. the size is perfect for a small living room or even a good sized bedroom (which is where i have mine). the functions on the remote are very clear. and all the picture modes work great. watching a t.v. show in 4:3 format just seems stupid. full screen or zoom mode is by far the way to go. distortion or not it is still a great picture and after watching it a few times you get used to it. with a progressive scan dvd player, s-video and component cables the picture is almost unbeatable. I just got this Panasonic in my den and I love every 47 inch of this awesome tv. The picture is truely awesome. If you want a mid size projection tv in the corner of your room, then this unit fit perfectly without taking up too much space. Best of all, i bought this unit for $1088.00 at 6th Ave electronic (New Jersey) On: 2003-11-20
This TV, and ALL wide-screen projection TVs must be watched in wide-screen mode or you risk burning out the picture tube at HUGE costs to you. This is NOT covered by warranty. 90% of what you watch will NOT be in wide-screen format. If you put a regular TV show in wide-screen, the picture is distorted. If you watch in 4:3 mode, you will burn out the tube. Ours burned out in 1 year at avg 5 hours of use per WEEK, NOT DAY! Panasonic will do NOTHING to help you out. Best-Buy did not warn us of this problem and in fact, said it was fine to watch in 4:3 mode. Do yourself a favor - until more shows are broadcast in widescreen, get a standard TV. On: 2003-11-19

This tv is a GREAT tv. The picture quality is great. It has nice zoom modes ( say your watching a letterboxed tv show < broadcast in 4:3 but letterboxed on top and bottom > you can zoom it with the tv and it will cut off the top and bottom black bars and have a perfect AR! ) the stretch mode is ok as well takes a bit getting used to at first. Xbox Games are great on this TV ( using an component video cable to get HDTV ) widescreen and very live colors. I used the avia calibration disc and the colors are amazing. This TV also has a Svideo input on the front and has DVI on the back. IF i didnt already have a very nice sound system i wouldnt really need one soo bad with this tv. The tvs speakers are very nice and very clear. The tv also is big enough with the speakers so you dont need to buy a tv stand. This tv only got 4 out of 5 stars because it doesnt support 720p. 1080 is nice. When hooked up to an external hdtv reciever ( samsung ts151 ) the quality and detail is absolutly amazing! each hair is shown clearly. WB/CBS/NBC all broadcast 1080i ABC/FOX broadcast different formats ( ABC 720p not supported by this tv but with that samsung tuner it will convert it to 1080i no worries ) fox is 480p ( progressive dvd quality ) Overall this is a great TV! you wont be sorry.
