The Best of DVD Worlds     On: 2008-05-09

The CyberHome DVD player is what I have been searching for
for years: American and European systems (and others) compatible!

And at such a reasonalble price!

Will continue to work if you remember to upnplug it.     On: 2008-03-13

I think I know what the problem is with this DVD player. I purchased this model a few years ago and it eventually stopped working (wouldnt turn on even with a fresh battery in the remote). I think this happened because I left it plugged in all the time with the power off. I think the fact that it is "plugged in" burns out the components even thought the power is supposedly "off". I purchased the same model again about two years ago and I always unplug it when Im not using it and it works perfectly. I think this is a good DVD player for the price--you just have to remember to unplug it when its not in use.
Very Good Little Machine     On: 2008-03-09

I am reading some of the bad reviews some people are giving to this DVD player and went to make sure this is the same DVD player Ive had for about 3+ years. And... It is the same -CyberHome 300.
I have NEVER had any problems with this little machine. I paid about $35.00 a few years ago. One of best money investments made for an electronic piece!
And the best thing about it? For me, it is the fact that I can play DVDs from almost any region. I order DVDs from other countries and all I have to do is to change regions and DONE! It takes only a couple of minutes to change regions.
On the other hand, I have friends that invested more than $80.00 for one of those so-called "multi-region" players and they are always complaining.
I like my little player so much that I bought one for my husband about a year ago (no complain from this one either) and now I am buying one for the TV in our master bedroom.
If you want to pay more $$$$ for a more "sophisticated" player go ahead... but if you want something inexpensive that will serve you as good as the more expensive ones, buy this little DVD player. I believe you will not regret it!

Great DVD Player     On: 2008-02-22

For the money I spend on this, it is a great DVD player! All I needed was a small DVD player that doesnt take up allot of space. And it plays the european DVDs!
To some of the reviews I can just comment: if you want something better, spend more money. I didnt need to plug in any more electronic devices etc.. so this works just fine for my family.
If you are on a low budget and just need a DVD player for the kids to watch something occasionally, this product is for you.
Fantastic gizmo for low bucks.     On: 2008-01-23

Ive had this DVD player for almost 3 years now, and have never had a problem with it. Its small, inexpensive, and works like a charm. The remote isnt easy to use (you cant really use it by touch, you have to squint at the tiny thing every time to make sure youre hitting the right button), but thats my only complaint.
Cyberhome 300S     On: 2007-12-28

This is a great little DVD player. It plays everything I throw at it-including PAL. If a DVD does not play or cuts out during playback, on my JVC and/or Panasonic DVD players, the Cyberhome 300S will play it completely-without error. In fact, I have two of these machines. As to picture quality-those who complain are probably viewing the DVD through a telescope. I see no difference in quality from that of my other DVD players and the 300S.The quality of construction is very good-not cheap plastic like other small DVD players seen at Walmart. I would recommend this player to anyone who wants a good durable player at a reasonable
price. The only thing I have not tested is its progressive scan capabilities as I have SDTVs only.
I am glad that, as of 12/28/07, you can still purchase one.
no joke     On: 2007-12-04

I bought the little "ch" about 2 years ago at Odd LOts for 27.50 Ive never had any trouble with it at all. IT palys all regions and has a good picture. It has composite ,"s"vidieo and componet outputs. Can be set to progressive or interlaced scan. If you have a good high quality dvd the picture will amaze you at this price. I think Cyberhome has gone out of business though. Solidly built with all metal chassis. remote is a bit small but o.k. recommended.
Excellent DVD Player     On: 2007-11-26

Purchased this DVD player more than a year ago only to play some VCDs/DVDs which I got from India. Works like a charm. The litte guy plays every single Disc that you pop into it. It has taken over the role of the Primary DVD Player after my more expensive Daewoo died on me.
I would definitely recommend this to everyone.
Great basic player with a perk!     On: 2007-11-24

My husband and I put DVD players through their paces as our TV is used almost exclusively for DVD viewing since we have no cable or satellite service. In the past four or five years weve gone through three mid-priced players; when they were subjected to our rigorous (and disc-after-disc) viewing they soon developed issues with skipping, not reading, humming, and overheating. We also are fans of foreign films and rare editions, but have never been able to afford an all-region player.

We heard tale of a great all-region player that could be found on Amazon for well under $75 and thought it was too good to be true. But as our DVD player at the time sounded like a mini helicopter every time we watched a movie, we were willing to try anything! It arrived super fast and we were pleasantly surprised at how compact the unit is (not as thick as a Harry Potter book, but wider). The first thing we did was set it up for all-region coding (instructions were included) and gave it a test run with a European disc -and it worked! So did a disc from Japan! Wonderful!

Bottom line, it is a great little basic DVD player with a fantastic all-region perk. It doesnt record or have a clock to set (but we havent missed that), but has held up to our rigorous routine for over a month now and we couldnt be more pleased. Even the remote is nice; simple, not too thin, and all the buttons are clearly labeled. If youve always wanted a basic player and the ability to watch foreign discs but couldnt plunk down the extra cash, this could be the perfect player for you!
Fine, but no legs.     On: 2007-11-02

I bought this for its no-frills cheap price about 9 months ago and it gave me about 30 hours of pleasant, satisfying viewing time. Then it whimsically refused to recognize any instructions from the remote. (Replacing the battery made no difference.) Most important, it refuses to turn on, and the power button on the front doesnt change anything. Worse, there is a DVD inside and I cant open the tray, so Ill have to destroy the little bugger to retrieve my disk. Dont bother with it. Pay more and get something reliable.
Cheap Chinese Electronics     On: 2007-11-01

Like many other purchasers, I was impressed by the low ($39) price, Region Free and PAL capability when I bought this DVD player 2 years ago. It just inexplicably stopped working yesterday. Looking up Cyberhome, it seems the trademark and domain name is up for sale(?). 2 years and throw it away seems to be the world we live in. Are there any DVD players not made in Asian slave factories?
A good budget DVD player? Hardly.     On: 2007-10-29

I bought this CyberHome DVD player as a quick fix, I never bought it as a long-term solution. Even a budget DVD player should have worked better than this has though.

I will say that at this DVD players most primitive aspect (i.e., playing movies only), it does the job its supposed to. However, dont try and make your movie experience any more enjoyable by running the sound through your surround sound system. I did and it only created problems.

"Like what?" you may be asking.

Well, somehow--I never claim to be an expert in the way of any electronic device but I do know how they work--the sound stopped coming through. I figured it was just my surround sound so I ran it through to my TV, still nothing. I actually had to buy new RCA plugs just to be able to watch anything with sound. The problem has persistently come back though.

Then theres the random power-offs. The first couple times I figured, "Ah, power surges." When it kept happening I then resorted to thinking I just had a bad unit, so I mentioned it to a friend who has one and he said his was doing the same thing. I know its possible that both units are faulty but itd be rare, and after reading a few reviews and further asking around, Ive found that, even with the former problem, Im not the only one.

I dont recommend this DVD player the least bit. If you MUST have one immediately and this is what you can afford, okay, but go in knowing you better save up to get a better one ASAP. The remote and features are all user friendly and take no time to get use to, which is nice. Past that, the bad--at least for me--far outweighs the good.
Eh     On: 2007-10-18

This product is just okay. The unit I bought lasted just under two years, and then it stopped playing DVDs all together.
I am not too worried about it, since I got it on sale for under $40, but at the Amazon list price I would be looking at other models.
Cyberhome DVD player     On: 2007-09-26

Excellent item. My first lasted a long time, and when it finally wore out, I bought another one of this same item, and expect to have the same good luck with this one.
Great item.     On: 2007-09-24

I bought this to watch some British car racing dvds that are not available in the US format. It was so very inexpensive that I was skeptical. Ive been using it for 2 weeks now, and it works perfectly. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because it doesnt have any type of lcd display on the unit.
A very practical product!     On: 2007-09-15

Cyberhome Multi Region Code Free Region Free Zone Free All Region 110/220v Dvd Player w/ Progressive Scan
This product is affordable and practical. I have bought two. One for myself and another for a brother in law. It plays everything!!!!
Exceptional value for money     On: 2007-08-24

For the money, unbeatable: delivers a decent picture, reads multiple regions, occupies almost no space. A very tidy product.
Usage is moderate, and so far it has been reliable.
BEST DVD PLAYER     On: 2007-08-24

THIS IS THE BEST DVD PLAYER IVE EVER HAD AND HAS LASTED LONGER TOO. IT TAKES VERY LITTLE SPACE SO EVERYONE HAS ROOM.
performs the job i want     On: 2007-08-08

i was in the market for a dvd player that would play movies from multiple regions as well as have PAL and NTSC compatibility, and the cyberhome dvd player has done just that. the dvd playback works great (i have it hooked up to a 42-inch hd flat screen plasma) and i havent had any issues. for the price and for what i ask it to do, it works great. i am big tech geek, so i felt the included instructions on how to make the player region free were easy to follow. i would highly recommend this player if you are looking for a region free player that supports PAL and NTSC.
Best buy     On: 2007-08-05

From the time i bought this DVD Player it worked like a war horse. Plays all kind of DVDs (home created, bought ones also). For a person who wants to watch just DVDs this is a best bet. Im using this product for little over an year without any problems. I would recommend this product.
Will it play home made DVD? I purchased one a year ago     On: 2007-07-22

Yes! My problem is/was my main DVD player will warm up and will stop even on rented DVDS that are a little used. Home made DVDs are/is not an option at all. The main purpose of the little guy was and stile is to play home made DVDs, and it sure stand its purpose. Today after a year, I am getting my second unit - I totally retired my Sony from the living room. I will be using these guys in the bedroom and living area. If they dont last long that is fine, their cost was less than $40.00 each, unlike the Toshiba and the Sony,I spends hundreds and they sure looked fancy. I recommend the unit to anyone that watches home made DVDs and CDs
GREAT PLAYWE!!! IT PLAYS EVERYTHING!     On: 2007-07-21

This player is really great for the low price that it sells for. It plays any format DVD and I am very happy about this because I watch movies coming from europe and africa so I do need the flexibility.
Definitely a good buy!!
Not for the home theater enthusiast.     On: 2007-07-18

I wanted to be able to play home made DVD-Rs on Television. It does play any DVD disc format on the planet. I found that it also plays MPEGS and AVI files on CD just fine.

Just dont make this your primary home theater player. I couldnt get it to output 5.1 surround sound to save my life. It has a coaxial port (which is what my old DVD player was using), but it wont output surround sound audio to my receiver. Even though I set the settings on the player to what was designated in the manual. Since other reviewers mentioned theirs not working right out of the box, I guess I am fortunate.

The remote control layout is also awkward, and it takes some getting used to. I use it now strictly for QA videos I make for work. It works just fine in that capacity. I am not unhappy for the price.
scan dvd player     On: 2007-07-15

This is the coolest dvd player that you can get. Just like it says in the title, It is progressive! I like anything that is progressive! It also can scan! Well, I like anything that can scan! It is also silver! That, in itself is really cool!
Good product     On: 2007-07-14

Compact, cheap, dual(110, 240)voltage. I have owned this product for almost a year now and it works good. Worth to buy.
Affordable, Works Well     On: 2007-07-14

Ordered 4 pieces - all working well a month later. Very good for the price!
Remember it's cheap     On: 2007-07-13

This player was small, something I was looking for, cheap, and got "some" good reviews. It worked OK, although would skip some things when in FF mode and occasionally lock up on something. That was until it just stopped working, now every disk, of any description, that I put in it is a "bad disk". They all play fine everywhere else. Remember its cheap.
Region Hack Variation     On: 2007-07-12

I bought one of these units to have a backup to my Cyberhome 320, which has served me very well.

The three things I like most about the Cyberhome units are:

1) The audio playback volume can be controlled globally from the remote. This is helpful if you have the sound output of the player connected to a reciever/ amplifier and a TV simultaneously- the volume of the TV sound and the reciever sound can be adjusted in tandem - or, if the minimum volume setting on your TV is still too loud for watching DVDs or playing mp3s late at night (my plasma TV is like that, believe it or not) you can lower the volume to a level that wont disturb others.

2)Cyberhomes seem to be able to play any DVD that I can create on my PC. This was not so for a Sony unit I have that cost three times as much.

3)the region code of the units can be reset to zero. However, when I attempted to use the hack that worked on my 320 (the same hack described here in other reviews of this player) on the 300 it did not work. If you are getting the same results try this proceedure instead (it worked for me):

1) Close the disc tray with no disc inside. (This proceedure will not work with the disc drawer open.)

2) On the remote press "menu" then "1" and then "9". When I tried this no "no" symbol appeared as on my 320. A highlighted box should appear with the players current region setting displayed.

3) On the remote, press the green up or down buttons to change the code. I set mine to "0" - all regions.

4) On the remote, press "enter".

Youre done!

I tested this with region 1, 2, and 4 discs and they all played fine.

I just got my 300 so I havent had time to experience any of the problems (unit failres) that others have reported, but Ive had my 320 for about two years and other than having to clean the lens once it has worked just fine. As far as I can tell the 300 and the 320 are identical except that the power indictor on the 300 is larger than the one on the 320, the screensaver looks slightly different and the region hacks are slightly different. Im hoping that the 300 will perform as well as the 320 since these players have all the features I need.
Not the Energizer bunny . . .     On: 2007-07-09

This one just wont keep going, and going, and going. When it worked it was fine. However, I have owned two and both quit working on me in fairly short order, the second one in less than a year. Maybe I shouldnt expect too much for the price, but still was disappointing to me.
Cyberhome The Best     On: 2007-06-28

I purchased this product because I needed to have a dvd player in my livingroom. Its small and compact and is by far the best player on the market as far as Im concerned. Simply put, I love it.
Read everything     On: 2007-06-23

If you put inside a Cookie or an Arepa maybe this product will read it. Is a funny way to review this product because youll never have reading or uncompatibility troubles.
mostly bad, a little good     On: 2007-06-16

I have owned two of these dvd players. Both of them worked for a while and then both of them just stopped working. It doesnt seem to read the disk. I would only recommend if you dont mind buying a new one every year. Both of them lasted between 9-12 months and the remote died, and shortly after that, the whole thing died. It also is missing an actual menu button on the dvd player itself. I could never go to the menu when my remotes stopped working. It was good while it worked though. I just wish it didnt obviously have some sort of a bug since both did the exact same thing.
hard to know what you'll get     On: 2007-05-31

I have bought this same player multiple times. Usually itll last me a year or two before dying (which is what I expect for the price), but my last one was only about a month old when it stopped working. What a disappointment. Ive had much more expensive players that didnt last as long too, though . . .
Great Little DVD player     On: 2007-05-21

Easy to set up and to use,I love this DVD player. Just be sure to double check Amazons shipping calculations on any order, as they charged me $26 to standard ship this tiny unit. The TV I bought at the same time only cost $17 to standard ship.
The Excellent product one must have it     On: 2007-05-20

Ilove this product , CYBERHOME DVD PLAYER so much that i dont have
words to express it.I will always reccomand my freinds and family
to go for this product rather then having other brand costly DVD
players
Old version better than the new one.     On: 2007-05-19

I had one CyberHome CH-DVD 300S Progressive-Scan DVD Player that I bought around 5 years ago and it was great, the dvd player I ever had. It could play everything including Divx format. I gave it to my Mom in Brazil and decided to buy another one, the same model, but they are coming different now. They look the same, they have the same name 300S but they are not playing Divx format. This is usually the format you have for dvds created in your PC. So, all taht big advantage it had before is gone. The only good thing remaining is that it still is a multi-region dvd player.
This little gem has one feature no other DVD player apparently has.     On: 2007-05-18

First, this player produces a crystal clear picture equal to the pricier model I own of another very well-known brand, and the response time of this player to any button pressed on its remote is also twice as fast as my pricier model.

And now for the number one reason I bought this player: its remote has a "1/All" button that will continuously play and repeat all episodes on a standard DVD -- a small thing, but extremely useful, especially if the DVD itself has no "Play All" option on its root menu. Apparently, this is particular to this brand of DVD player; Ive tried two other brands of DVD players and neither of them featured this ability. "Associates" at BestBuy and Circuit City also informed me they sell no DVD players at any price that have this feature. By the way, the first one Id bought of these died within a year after purchase, but at this price, replacing it is not a mighty concern.
Cyberhome DVD player review     On: 2007-05-15

I was disapointed that the zoom feature mode of operation was changed. I had one before that stopped playing but I liked the zoom feature it had. It worked by presenting a frame within the picture when the zoom button was pressed and then by pressing Enter, the view within the frame was enlarged. This could be repeated has many times as you want. The current one only enlages by 2x, 3x and 4x. Thats all. Otherwise I like the player and it is inexpensive and compact. I use it mostly to view JPEG pictures on disk.
Don't Throw Your Money Away     On: 2007-04-23

My Cyberhome DVD player locked up and will not play any more. I had used it maybe 10 times!
I went online and found others expressing that they had the same experience.
I wish I had gone with another brand.
I emailed Cyberhome with my complaint hoping they could give me some kind of advice on how to get it working again but, they never returned my email with any comment.
I would not recommend any product sold by Cyberhome. It doesnt seem to me as though they care about repeat business with their customers. Just sell it cheap and rip them off one at a time.
Thanks, Mark

Decent for the price     On: 2007-04-15

I bought two of these to replace really old DVD players in my house, and I would call these adequate, but not fantastic.

They play home-burned DVDs and +/- R media which my old players would not handle, but they seem to struggle with some discs and will sometimes even stop playing. The same discs will play fine in my high-end HD-DVD player.

For some reason, the subtitles default to on, which is annoying.

The remote is poorly-laid out and uses REALLY EXPENSIVE batteries. Ive never seen a remote use this kind of battery. Why not use a standard double-A like every other remote on the planet?
Little Workhorse with a Secret     On: 2007-04-07

Ive had this DVD player for almost a year of extremely frequent use and it works great. It would be a deal at twice the price.

Im leaving this review specifically to give an update for the unadvertised multi-region feature. This DVD player can play movies from any region, not just North American region 1 and region 0. To change the region the DVD player will play, first make sure there is no DVD in the player. Then press "menu," then "1," then "9." A grey box will appear with a number "1" in it, showing the region the DVD player is set to play. You can use the up and down arrows on the remove to change the region however youd like. When youve set your preferred region, press "enter." Earlier reviews give a slightly different procedure, likely due to tiny differences in design over time.
Under rated     On: 2007-03-30

This item is worth more than what you will porbably pay for it. It has a classy look with the most modern features of a DVD player today. There is little to no loading time and the quality is perfect.

The only downside I could find was not even in the DVD player. I use a comcast universal remote and there is no code for CyberHome in their DVD programing code list.
Great Value for Money     On: 2007-03-26

Good product. Does what it is supposed to do. The voltage conversion feature and region free playback are great for international use. It is currently being used in India without any problems !!
Great region free player     On: 2007-03-09

This is the best region free (via key sequence code) player around. It can play both NTSC and PAL DVD as well! You cant find another DVD player like this without paying more than a few times more. I only give it a 4 starts because these little players wont last too long. I just ordered a few of them to replace the dead ones. :)
Cheaper at Wal-Mart     On: 2007-03-09

I bought this thinking it would play movies from Britain, but I missed a code or something and ended up with a basic DVD player, so I eventually returned it. It was okay as a regular DVD player, but the same thing is at Wal-Mart for less money.
Inexpensive DVD players are not alike.     On: 2007-02-25

I bought this Cyberhome model from BestBuy several years ago and loved it. A power outage killed it recently, so I went to BestBuy to get another, and they dont carry it any more. I bought another brand, Insignia, which is awful! The picture quality is terrible compared to the Cyberhome. Dark scenes have crushed blacks and grays. Im still looking for another Cyberhome locally.
[CyberHome CH-DVD 300S Progressive-Scan DVD Player (Silver)]     On: 2007-02-09

Would rate it 0 stars if that were an option!!!! Very spotty performance! Audio comes and goes on a whim. CyberHome doesnt respond to email or phone calls, and now it seems that their website is closed. When it works, it is fine, but it doesnt work consistently, and with no customer service it seems a risky thing to buy--even at a low price.

This unit is piece of garbage     On: 2007-01-24

60 days it worked good and now when I turn on DVD I have on my screen white dots. DVD plays good but I still have a several lines of white dots. They are arrangment by diagonal several rows. Sometimes these lines dissapear for a short time. After cleaning lenses I have the same problem. [...]
Excellent little guy.     On: 2007-01-22

It has served me faithfully for 3 years and it has never given me any problem. Although I wish the DVD player itself had buttons for navigating the menu. Be ready to invest in cell batteries because the DVD controller has all the essential buttons you will need for navigating. But this shouldnt be a problem. ;)

This is a quality DVD player, it is inexpensive, and it is small! So it can fit anywhere and not take up so much space as a large DVD player. Oh, and it plays CDs too! =)

This goes to show you dont need any of those expensive DVD players when you can save $60+ by buying this! Great buy!
DVD Player     On: 2007-01-10

Looking for a reasonable. dependable device. This Dvd player has been just that. I have owned it for over two years and it is still playing. It is in my daughters room and she watches a lot of kids movies. Cant go wrong with this device. With the price being so cheap, my girlfriend ordered one for her daughter. Picture is seen clearly. Highly recommend.
Too Cool     On: 2007-01-04

Great Seller - This is one of my favorite products - Too, Too Cool!

Good multiregion playback for the price; but fails on a few DVDs     On: 2006-12-12

I have been using this player for about 2 years now to watch region 2 DVDs bought from Amazon in Europe. The magic code sequence with the remote worked fine for me for enabling DVDs from any region. Most of the time, these DVDs played fine. So, for the price, you cannot complain: multiregion for about $30 is great. On the other hand, every so often I would purchase a DVD and not be able to understand the dialog and, on these DVDs, I noticed that the video image jumped every few frames. This behavior happened for me on about 1 in 10 or 1 in 20 DVDs.

Recently I purchased a slightly more expensive player, the Philips DVP5140, that can also be enabled for multiregion playback, and uses a higher sampling rate when converting the PAL image to an NTSC image. And that player has no problem whatsoever with the dozen or so DVDs that gave the CyberHome trouble. So, if you can afford it, I would recommend the Philips DVP5140, for about $60, over the CyberHome.
Quality control     On: 2006-12-09

Obviously, judging by the other reviews, the quality control on this product leaves a lot to be desired. It seems to either work very well or very poorly. Mine is one of the latter. Have only used it a few hours but it will not track a DVD beyond about an hour. In other words, the outer portion of the disc. Tried using a Memorex laser cleaning disc, but this did not help. Mine is a piece of junk, as far as I am concerned. Dont waste your money on this lottery.
No bad if you are okay piling up landfills!     On: 2006-12-09

Okay, so we are in the age of "disposable" everything, including cheap DVD players. This one I bought a little less than a year ago and it just died on my two weeks ago (however, after many a movies from Netflix). Not too bad for 11 months use I guess, considering the price, but still, the landfill must be full of them. Do yourself a favor; pay a little more and hold on to it longer. Our waste disposal men thank you!
cheap!     On: 2006-12-06

I bought this DVD player in August and was happy with it until it broke down completely in November! You certainly get what you pay for. I got maybe 20 hours of use from it. This is false economy. Pay a bit more and get something that last longer than 3-4 months.
Ginormous Waste of Money     On: 2006-11-19

I have purchased three of these dvd players in the past 2 1/2 years, every one of them has had the same problems. Trouble reading dvds, dvds skipping, discs freezing and the manual buttons stopped working on two of the units. The price is right on the unit, but not for the time it worked. I would have been better off spending double or triple the unit price to get one that worked for more than 6 months without a problem. If I could give it less than 1 star I would because thats really what it is worth, nothing.
Best DVD player I've ever owned     On: 2006-11-12

Ive had this DVD player for over two years now and it has worked perfectly even with the scratched up DVDs you get from a rental store. I have never put a disc in this player and it not play. Not only is it a wonderful player but it can be set to region free this was a very much appreciated added bonus for me because I buy a lot of Region 2 DVDs. If you are looking for a cheap, very good, and region free DVD player this one is the right choice. The picture is great, the sound is great and its performance is wonderful.
Garbage pure and simple     On: 2006-11-10

I bought this player because I wanted to play dvds from various regions. The good news is that it plays discs from all regions outside of region 1 just as well as it plays those in region 1. The bad news is that I never found a disc which the unit could play through in its entirety. It would click, grind and sputter along for 30 or, on a good day, 50 minutes before just freezing up. Save your money or buy a coby dvd-224, which is an infinitely superior unit.
October 2006     On: 2006-10-26

This dvd player is potentially a great, cheap and versatile machine BUT...

The two i bought from Worldwide Distributers were faulty. I have a friend who owns a CH-DVD 300 which works perfectly with my Region 2 (English) DVDs. I have a CyberHome DVD player in England which works perfectly as well. The two machine i received didnt work very well and didnt play some discs at all. This is why i would recommend spending a bit more on another machine. After returning two players i decided to buy a Philips DVP5140 (Multiformat DVD Player with Divx, MP3, Windows Media Support) which with a code to allow it to play all regions works perfectly! It cost $60 with free shipping through amazon so wasnt actually much more expensive than the other player! (See the reviews of this player for the code!)

I would also like to say that there was nothing wrong with the service from Worldwide Distributors and that they refunded most of the shipping costs. The problem was ONLY with the DVD players they sent me.
Play Stops Working     On: 2006-09-15

After about 18 months my CyberHome CH-DVD 300S stopped working with the same symptoms as several other reviewers. I am going to try the cleaning exercise that was reported to fix it.

I have an earlier CyberHome DVD player that continues to run fine after more than 5 years of service.
Happy so far     On: 2006-08-21

I ordered the Cyber-Home DVD on 07/21/2006 and so far I have no problems. The quality of the picture is great. I like the fack that the DVD unit is little and fits everywhere, you almost dont see it. Its light and easy to install.
Thanks,
Katia
Bad Disc Error - possible fix     On: 2006-08-12

BAD DISC ERROR - possible fix

After about 8 months just like the other reviewer it stopped working.

I kept getting bad disc error on a new DVD I bought. I tried good discs that worked before but now got the same Bad Disc error.

This is not the first time I had problems loading. Previously, unplugging and plugging it in again sometimes corrected the problem.

This time after two weeks of Bad Disc errors, I was about to toss it when I decided what the heck, Ill check inside to see if its dirty or something.

FIRST I UNPLUGGED THE UNIT.

I removed the 6 screws holding the cover. You may have to pull the sides out a bit if it catches to lift it off.

With my expertise knowledge. *eyeroll* I nudged the lense mechanism. It apparently slides to read the discs.

I plugged the DVD in and loaded a disc again to see what happens. The lense slid under the tray and started reading the disc. Ill take the elation of dumb luck over the satisfaction calculated knowledge any day! lol

So hopefully this will last a little longer. But at least I can use it again for now ...

I am downrating it to 2 stars solely on the bad disc error. The viewing quality and performance is decent and covered by other reviewers.
A great little machine!     On: 2006-08-01

I use it outside on my deck for watching DVDs in the summer. It is sturdy, easy to move around, and the quality is excellent. I would highly recommend it.
What happened to the region code free setting??? HELP!     On: 2006-07-25

Hi! I bought my Cyberhome 300 in April 2006, and was able to set the region code to "0" to watch all DVDs.
After not using the DVD Player for a few weeks (and unplugging it), the region code has automatically set back to "1" and I cannot change it anymore! What happened?? When I try to change it now I can only choose between the settings "1" and "-". Anyone who has the same problem? Thank you
It reads em all     On: 2006-07-20

This is a nice product,i buught it beacause i needed to play DVDs from foreign country and my fancy "sony" dvd vcr player cant read them but this little thing can,it reads all the standards im glad ive got it.

A pretty good bargain     On: 2006-07-02

I got my CyberHome DVD player two to three years ago because of the very inexpensive price and the compact size, to use as a second player for the bedroom. I think it is in the process of dying now, but until this has worked very well for what I need, which has been simply a little player which fits neatly on top of the TV so that I can watch DVDs in bed. For the money, I would call this a good buy, and I will consider buying another one.
Good one     On: 2006-06-26

The item is very good..the only thing is that sometimes this equipment does not handle voltage fluctuations..rest everything is fine with this product.
Good Buy     On: 2006-06-25

I got the DVD player a few days ago, but only had the time to unpack and it today. It was simple to set up and run. Very nice. Works fine - so far. Nice picture. So far, so good.
a great value for the price     On: 2006-06-20

I bought this player over a year ago as a second unit, so I could watch DVDs using PAL or from other regions.

It has become the most-used player in our house. The "main" player is a Panasonic, and it is much worse at handling scratched rental discs or DVD+-R discs than the Cyberhome. The Cyberhome 300 has played every disc we have put into it without problems.

It appears that some people have had problems with their Cyberhome players ceasing to function after a short time. I would advise to buy it from a reputable place that will assist with warranty issues. There may be bad units, but the good ones are very good and very durable. On the other hand, for $35 you can use it until it breaks and throw it away. Youll still come out ahead.
does not last very long     On: 2006-06-19

I bought this as a second DVD player so that I would have one at my college dorm and one at home. It stopped working for no reason after about 8 months. I will never buy a no-name brand again! My expensive Apex dvd player that I have had since DVD players came out lasted until this past year. I guess trying to buy something cheap isnt always the best choice.
Excellent Unit, Plays almost all formats!! Good value for the money     On: 2006-06-16

Bought this unit as a gift for my sons 3rd grade class and the feedback after several months is very positive. Very good performance for the price paid and comparable to units costing much more.
Thought it was good, until I learned better.     On: 2006-06-12

I bought this DVD player about 2 years ago when I bought a british dvd and wanted to play it on more than just my computer.

I thought it was an amazing investment for the longest time. It played anything I put in it, including home made VCDs.

Then I realized that it actually skips scenes, but almost seamlessly. I wonder how many movies I didnt get to enjoy all of because this junky DVD player skipped scenese of the movie. I only figured it out this year when I was watching a movie I owned on someone elses player and saw a scene I had never seen before. Id watched the DVD over and over but NEVER caught this part.

I dont know why it does it or on which DVDs, but I dont want to risk missing parts of any more movies.
Little Price...Little Results     On: 2006-06-11

Save time and money by not purchasing this dvd player, especially if u are entending on buying it from Walmart. They will not exchange it out after 90 days, and they will not have the information to return it back to CyberHome..who at most should be ashamed for merely making such an aweful piece of junk.
Excellent, Affordable DVD Player     On: 2006-06-01

I bought this DVD player a year and a half ago. I got it mostly because it was extremely affordable - [...] on sale. I didnt have much hope for it, because it was so cheap. Boy, am I impressed. I love my little DVD player. I havent had ANY problems with it since I bought it. The picture and color are great. Im not a tech geek by any stretch, so if there are any inconsistancies with color/picture/pixels/etc, I definitely dont notice. I love the size and I think it looks quite sleek. (Im not sure why the previous reviewer knocked the appearance. I love that its smaller and lighter weight. It fits perfectly on top of my TiVo). For the average non-discriminating viewer, this DVD player is awesome. Ive definitely gotten a return on my investment. I would recomend it to anyone.
It plays all formats     On: 2006-05-26

The best part of this DVD player is it can play all formats and it is true international. I have an expensive Sony Home Theater which becomes almost useless with many formats like VCD and certain international DVD formats. But CYBERHOME passes everything it could. It just is amazing the way it go through even scrachy disks.

I would buy this as a second player at home, may be one for my kids or so. It is good for rough handling too. The good thing about this is it is handy and easily movable. You can even use one in the backyard with a small TV.
Cheap and Good!     On: 2006-05-26

I got 2 of these at home. It plays every DVD and all regions. It doesnt look good but it works great. For the price, it is worth every single penny.
Frrezes up often     On: 2006-05-25

Dont buy this DVD player. It freezes up often. It takes 3 hours to watch a 1:30 movie!!! I bought one last year. I used it for 2 months. All this time I was wondering whether I had bad DVDs. Later I realised the DVD Player is faulty. The player is still sleeping in my closet. Waste of money.
Nicholas.
just don't     On: 2006-05-19

I bought the 300 player more than a year ago... and it still works fine... its starting to have some slight problems, but they dont get in the way of the play back of any movie. So about 3 months ago I decided to get another one for my dad... and it worked fine at first, but a couple of days ago it started to freeze at the middle of the movies and locks up. And I have to return it to cyberhome directly and its [...] Flat Rate Labor Charge.
Below Adverage     On: 2006-05-15

I got this DVD Player for Christmas and like the small size and light weight. It is extra easy to move betweeen TVs. However, it freezes up and wont work very often and skips on DVDs that otherwise work perfect on my other players. Dont buy unless it is the cheapest one you can get and you do not mind a 40% Reliability rate.
you get what you pay for.     On: 2006-05-11

im not impressed with this player at all. for me, programming is frustrating. though, i openly admit im not a computer wiz. it took awhile for me to figure out how get get to the region code screen. ive also noticed that the running speed sometimes varies, going faster for a couple of seconds. i wish i would of gone with tosheba or another brand, but best buy did not have the model in stock. buy this at your own risk.
Small Price BIG Results     On: 2006-05-11

Outstanding unit - I have had mine for a month and I am SO pleased with its performance. The picture is wonderful, and it is so simple to set the code to be able to play ANY DVD. This one is WELL worth the small price you pay to get BIG results!
good until...     On: 2006-05-11

my player stopped reading dvds just after the 3-month warranty expired. buyers beware.

excellent!     On: 2006-05-06

This DVD player was bought in late 2004 and has been working excellently ever since. My only complaint is that it makes a high frequency chirping noise when it plays. I notice this more when I am watching a DVD that has been burned. Overall, I love it. It plays many formats of DVDs, and thats more than most expensive DVD players offer! Buy it!
Poor quality regardless of the price...     On: 2006-05-03

This thing freezes the movie in the middle randomly. I switch to my other DVD player and it plays perfectly. Happens almost every time. Support is non existent; no firmware or any other workarounds on their website either...Not worth buying no matter how low the cost, there are far better players in the same price range as this one.
great for a week...     On: 2006-05-01

Purchased this item through a third party reward system. The player worked great for a week and then stopped working. Maybe it was a lemon, but you get what you pay for.
A short lived piece of garbage.     On: 2006-04-23

Does not last long. I bought few of these and gave up on them finally.
When it worked it was good...     On: 2006-04-12

Most of the time mine never worked. When i watched a dvd it would skip, jump, or stall in the middle. It almost always occurred between scenes. I always thought it was the DVD, but i would clean them and nothing really changed. Id bring them to other peoples DVD players and everything would be fine.

Eventually I had to slam the top of the player in order to stop the skipping. While most of the time that worked, it would just skip somewhere else later. Its pretty hard to enjoy a movie when you have to keep getting up to bang the machine.

So now its dead and ive got to pry it open to remove my DVD.
Short term purchase only     On: 2006-04-12

I have owned two of these. The first one lasted 1 week, the second six months. If you plan to get a lot of use out of your DVD player, this is not the one to buy.
Great little player     On: 2006-04-12

I have so far gotten 5 of these babies, and exchanged one of them only. The following are the pros and cons:

Pros: It plays both pal and ntsc formats of dvds, it also has region free ability. Small size makes my tiny studio apartment not too messy.

Cons: If you pause the dvd/vcd for a long time (I tried at least 2 hours on purpose), then played the dvd again, the picture would be distorted, but then I just turned off the player and turned it back on, it was fixed. So its not a big issue. Also, it doesnt have display available. It doesnt really bother me, but again, it would be nice if it had the display LCD.

Final thought: I bought 5 cyberhome CH-DVD 300s, and there was only one that didnt power on when I pushed the power button on the player itself. I brought it back to BestBuy, and they told me there was no problem with it, but I exchanged it anyway. Just so you guys know, I have own the 1st player over 2 years and it never stopped working.
Great Choice for Multi-Region DVDs     On: 2006-04-03

This player offers unbelievable value for money. Its small, light and within seconds can be converted to play DVDs from any region.
Shortlived DVD player     On: 2006-04-02

I bought this DVD in November and used it for about 4 months. In March, it started giving problems. It freezes while trying to play any DVD or VCD while the same DVD/VCD works fine in another player. I plan to throw this player and DONT RECOMMEND this to anyone who wants to buy it. You will only get about 3-4 months to get you out of the warranty period. Warranty is valid for 3 months labor and upto 1 year with a $[...]service fee (I bought this for $[...])!!
great deal...IF it works     On: 2006-04-02

From the buyer reviews its obvious that Cyberhomes quality control is spotty, since some people had no problems at all while others did. But this unit was exactly what I needed for overseas use (cheap, compact, universal voltage, simple region-free hack) so I decided to take the chance. I lost: The unit I got played some DVDs OK but would occasionally freeze on others, very annoying so I returned it. Nevertheless, I give it 3 stars because I think you have a 50:50 chance of getting a great deal. BTW, I have since found out that there are region-free hacks easily found on the web for a huge number of supposedly one-region DVD players so you really dont need to look for a "region-free" player.
gonossatan     On: 2006-03-30

The only reason I bought this DVD player is to play my foreign region DVDs which it is supposed to do. But is DOES NOT! It is a scam, I wouldnt recommend it to anybody.
Don't let the size fool you. This is one great unit.     On: 2006-03-30

This is one great DVD player. It plays everything I throw at it. Ive had this unit for about a year now and have purchased one for my mother-in-law and brother-in-law. Do not let the small size fool you. Great things do come in small packages.
The best dvd ever     On: 2006-03-25

I purchased a CyberHome CH-DVD 300S two years ago and I never had any problems with it. However, I got tired of it and I tried to upgrade to a better dvd player but I could not find anything to surpass its qualities. I think I purchased any brand dvd at any price from $30 to $300 but I returned all of them and I am stuck with CyberHome CH-DVD 300S because I couldnt find anything better.
Not a Good one for long use     On: 2006-03-24

I have used it for hardly 3 months and it started to show me the true color. Most of the DVDs get stucked in between, while the same disc playes in full in other DVD players.
(...)All in all this is not a suggested player for long use (at least 1 yr).
Great Picture - Mine Still Works Perfect after 3 Months So Far     On: 2006-03-21

Very nice for the price. And it was the perfect size for what I needed. Excellent picture. However, although sound quality is excellent also, it does not get loud enough. My only other complaint is that the power light NEVER goes off. When the unit is turned off the green power light turns red but stays on. Because of the red light, and the sound volume I have to take away 2 stars, but I still highly recommend this for the price, and if you need a very small unit.
Great DVD player     On: 2006-03-20

This player works better than most of the "branded" players i have owned!...and it also played some of my internation dvds that my other players would not. So much for the money! I highly recommend anyone who wants to buy it.
Bad player; good return policy.     On: 2006-03-20

I really cant say much about this DVD player, since I couldnt get it to work at all... After trying for several days with several different DVDs, I decided to return it and get a refund. What I can say is that Amazon responded quickly and efficiently, reimbursing the money a few days after I sent the player back.
Cyberhome = Cyberscam     On: 2006-03-19

This DVD300S player is really bad. It only lasted 3 1/2 months. Just enough so that their warranty would expire on me. I feel robbed.

I blame Amazon too for selling their products!

If you care about your budget, dont buy this product. All the features it carries dont make up for its short life.
Great value for the money     On: 2006-03-17

You cant go wrong here. It works and this is all i needed.

Worst DVD player ever     On: 2006-03-16

I have typically regretted few electronic purchases Ive made, but this is one. This was one of the few I didnt research before I bought it, and Ive learned my lesson. Within the first week the remote stopped working (not that it worked well to begin with). A battery change did nothing. It occasionally will not recognize a DVD I load. If I try to play burned DVDs, it always skips for a while and then freezes towards the end. Spend a little more money and buy a real DVD player.
Excellent performance for last 4 months     On: 2006-03-15

I bought this DVD player in Dec05 for $ 19.99 (after $ 20 Mail in rebate) and as of now I dont have any problem with its performance. I am regularly playing DVDs, MP3 songs on this DVD player. If possible I would have given this product 10 out of 5 stars.
BEST DVD PLAYER I'VE EVER OWNED     On: 2006-03-15

I bought this player after Christmas 2004, and it has played great ever since. It will play all formats of DVD except DVD-RAM. It will play music CDs and MP3 CDs no problem. It will play my JPEG CDs, too. I have not tried any other types of disks. It can be easily made region-free (please note before you do this that, according to the Cyberhome web site, changing the region code will void the warranty). Best of all, it will convert PAL format to play on a NTSC television. Ive had a few minor glitches: Sometimes when I open the tray it will immediately re-close. A few times it would pause and skip during playback, but when I rewound back to the spot it started, it played fine (NOTE: The only times this has happened has been on double-sided disks, that is, disks with material on both sides such as with the first three season sets of THE DUKES OF HAZZARD). Other than that, this has been a nifty little player, and I would highly recommend it.

don't buy CyberHome products that only last for few months     On: 2006-03-07

Bought one Last November. It failed to read any DVD by March. Only run 2~3 DVD per week.
Total junk, don't waste your money.     On: 2006-03-06

My husband gave me this as a Christmas gift about two years ago. We dont watch that many dvds, so its use has been moderate I would say. It has been the most sensitive player and we have had to return rental dvds several times due to very minor scratches that caused it to freeze or skip. Now it wont work at all. What a waste of money. Im doing my research this time to buy one that hopefully will last more than two years and even if it doesnt, at least maybe it will be enjoyable while we have it. Dont buy this one, even though its cheap, put your money toward something better that will work properly.
Mostly junk     On: 2006-03-04

I bought one of these for my two boys room, it worked fine. Well after the boys split into seperate rooms, I decided to buy another but this one, even though it is the same make and model, will not play dvd-r discs. It only says "no disc".

JUNK     On: 2006-03-03

We bought this for an extra DVD player in our master bedroom. We really liked the price & compact size & it worked good when we got it home. But it lasted a whopping 2 months before the sound croaked. We probably played a total of 3 DVDs on it. Fortunately, we were able to return the item for the full cost & buy a different brand for a bit more money.

I would definately recommend looking for a better brand DVD player rather than this one. You will have to spend a bit more but it would probably be worth it, knowing the trouble we have had with this one.

good price, good features BUT freezes frequently     On: 2006-03-02

works fine for a while, then towards middle or end of movie frame freezes; tested dvd in another player = no problem;
this is my second unit with same problem. Cyberhome says it is a problem with my specific unit and that they will replace ...
Sounds keeps turning off     On: 2006-02-28

Low price and very compact foot print are the positives. The negative I found is that the sound will intermittantly stop playing. This can be corrected by ungplugging and replugging the unit. However, I have it in a kitchen cabinent connected to a wall mounted TV and ungplugging it is a pain. Remote is IR not RF so not so sensitive. I am planning on looking for another small footprint DVD player.

AWESOME Product. Completely Satisfied with it.
2 months so far. No complaints. I used it in India as well.
It works for the both 110, 220 volts. Plays any disc that you throw at it.

The best player ever, hands down.     On: 2006-02-24

Having over 600 DVDs, it was important to me to find a player that will handle all of them without a hitch. A DVD+VCR combo I had wouldnt handle scratches or burned media and the home theater system I had would overheat constantly and again, wouldnt play burned media. I invested $40 (with a $10 mail in rebate) into this player that I got at Best Buy because I heard it was top line. So after I made it region free I put in one of my PAL discs and...success! It worked! This amazing player (about 8" in length) has played my burned media, non-region 1 media and scratched discs (Even some that were really really messed up) with no problems whatsoever. You would THINK that at such a low price the player would be garbage but nope, Its sleek and very user friendly. It has some excellant features like the memory function. No more will I have to write down the time code that my dvd is on or keep the dvd in my player because if I eject the disc and put it in later, It will resume exactly where it left off.

Even if the player broke down right now, Id buy the exact same one.

If you have invested a lot of time and money into your dvd collection, I strongly suggest you invest in a Cyberhome DVD player.
CyberHome CH-DVD 300S     On: 2006-02-24

Unstable pictures and unstable functionality. Not a good product in my opinion. My friend also bought one in the past and was not happy with it. She end up returning it. Not recommended
Great little personal DVD player!!     On: 2006-02-23

I own 2 of these and plan to purchase a third. They will play just about anything, dont take up a lot of space, and are inexpensive.

Ive had one for over a year without problem and just recently purchased another for my daughter so she could view our home movie collection. This is a good product that works very well.
Beware!     On: 2006-02-22

2 of my friends bought this thing:
--One of them could not play any discs - they just stopped after 20-30 minutes and returned to the main BLUE screen!(and they were brand new store bought or rented DVDs!)
Luckily he was able to return it in time!

--On the other one the COMPONENT VIDEO (the 3 red, blue, green outputs)was useless - the picture was just RED, although the regular AV output is working. She is stuck with it now!

So 2 out of 2 are bad!!
Please Dont buy it     On: 2006-02-21

I got this DVD player, i started playing DVDs, its stops playing in the middle then keep searching the tracks. Dont waste ur time and money on this piece of JUNK. It would be good if u invest on a better DVD player.
Compact design with fairly good function     On: 2006-02-21

The disc-reading is pretty good, and response is fast. The only thing I am not satisfied is its small remote. With all buttons so close, its easy to click on the wrong one, especially when you are not looking at it.
Worst DVD player ever!     On: 2006-02-20

This is without a doubt the WORST DVD player ever produced! I was actually stupid enough to buy two of these players, because I have space limitations and needed a small player. In that case, this unit fits the bill. But if you actually want to play DVDs, then youre out of luck.

The problem with this piece of junk is that it randomly skips and breaks down the video signal while trying to watch a DVD. This happens on both regular moviess and DVD-R media. It almost always gets to the point where the video will just freeze, and I have to eject the disk. These DVDs play fine on any of the other 3 DVD players I have (regular and computer), so I know its not the media. To boot, the 1st player I owned just up and died one day. It simply wouldnt turn on anymore.

I still needed a compact player, and the price was cheap, so I figured Id take a shot at another one - they couldnt all be bad, right? Wrong! This player behaves EXACTLY the same as the other one. Im not even going to wait for the power to die - Im trashing this piece of junk and spending the $20 more itll cost to get a decent DVD player. Do yourself a favor and do the same!

Good price, terrible at playing DVDs.     On: 2006-02-20

As a lot of the other reviews indicate, the price is right. Unfortunately, the product fails to play DVDs. Ours played everything we put in it for the first three months, and now it has up and died on us. Sometimes it wont recognize discs, sometimes it will, sometimes it skips, sometimes it freezes. Sometimes itll play a DVD that it refused to play five minutes earlier. Its a terrible machine -- its worth it to invest a little more money in something that wont give you so much frustration.
Rebate is a scam, performance is a sham - pissed off I AM!     On: 2006-02-19

First of all, when I was told of the promotion in late December 2005 I was sent a link that said it was $39.99 and a $20 mail in rebate would make it $19.99. When I went to the page it was $46.99 - so a difference of $7.00 but since I am trying out Amazon Prime I didnt have to pay shipping and in the end its still a $27.00 DVD player right?

WRONG!

I got it, and immediately cut off the UPS symbol and pasted it to the rebate form. I looked for a place to paste the serial # (which was a sticker that I could not remove without ripping it) but there was none so I hand wrote it in. I packed it and mailed it with DELIVERY CONFIRMATION so they could not scam me... WRONG AGAIN! I get a postcard in the mail stating that my rebate was rejected because I didnt enclose the serial # from the box!

This was the biggest pile of horse$hit Ive ever heard! I called their customer service department and after a LONG hold I got a snippy representative that pretty much told me TOUGH LUCK. I demanded her supervisor and she told me he was busy but that I would receive a phone call by that Friday. That call I made was on Tuesday January 31st and no phone call ever came.

I called again and was told the same thing. No response. I emailed a complaint and was told it was received and it would be looked into. No response. I was then told to email a different department. NO RESPONSE.

They are a sheisty company and when I told the girl that the sound often goes out, that it refuses to play some DVDs that are NEW FROM THE BOX I was told that I would need the original box to ship it to them! If I had the original box I would be able to try to get my rebate!

What a huge WASTE of $$. I was so angry with the customer service. Please, invest another $20 and buy something that will not only WORK properly but that you can have exchanged if need be and if there is a rebate you will actually see your $$ someday!!! [...]

I personally think all of us that got screwed should find a way to do something class action and put these jerks out of business!
Awesome product     On: 2006-02-18

After set code zone free, Im able to watch DVD 3 from Thailand and also from France. Also it is voltage free.
Awesome product for people interested in watching international movies     On: 2006-02-17

I watch a lot of international movies and the main problem I used to face with my old DVD player is the compatibility issue. Since this DVD player can play both NTSC/PAL, it is great product for people like me. So far no complaints but I heard that the product life is about 1.5 to 2 years. I cant complain for that as I paid only $20 for it.
Does not play mpeg     On: 2006-02-14

Although it lists mpeg on the box and in some descriptions I have seen online(outpost), there is no mention of it in the manual or on the unit.
It is a pretty good unit although the remote is very small with an annoying button layout. The remote also uses button batteries! When it came out it was a good deal, but now there are so many players on the market you can get a better brand for the same price.

The little DVD player that could !     On: 2006-02-08

The Cyberhome dvd player seems to be a love it or have it device. People love it when it works and hate it when their unit is a lemon which seems to happen more then it should.

I have read people talking about freezing and disc read problems. Let me tell you that if your unit works as it should that this is not a problem. I have gone though about 70 Netflix rented disc many of them badly scratched with hardly a problem.

So it seems to be the luck of the draw. I say if you buy the unit and it does not work right have it replaced with another instead of instantly writing the unit off as junk. Chances are the next one you purchase will work just fine. I think the lemons people are seeing are a result of the huge demand of major retailers such as walmart and bestbuy.

If you look these things are popping up everywhere and for good reason. For the price this unit has an outstanding picture quality, small footprint, nice design and a great feature set usually not seen in dvd players twice its price.

I am very quality conscious when it comes to the movie viewing experience and after 6 months of ownership I am very happy with the purchase !

Note : While the mini remote is neat, it requires a flat 3v instead of AA or AAA batteries. This can be annoying when you want to watch a movie and your remote stops working.
What? I can't hear?     On: 2006-02-07

If you love to "watch" movies, this DVD player is for you. However, if you also like to "hear" them at the same time, I would spend my $$$ somewhere else. My Cyberhome DVD players audio went out after 2 months!!! I guess I got what I paid for. I recommend placing your money on a decent name brand instead of this DVD player.
so far so good     On: 2006-02-03

Ive had this player for about 1 month now and I am very happy with it. For $46 - $20 rebate = $26 you cant beat this. I would have even been happy paying full price for this unit. It is small so it fits anywhere and it has all the options you need out of a DVD player. Definitely recommend this!
no frills but good enough     On: 2006-02-01

this player has worked for almost 2 years for me, and it plays all kinds of dvds fine. theres no digital display so you dont know how much time has elapsed. and the remote is very small so its hard to know what to press in a dark room. but the player itself is really compact, which makes it better than my last more expensive player, which broke after a few months.
Gr8 DVD player for the price     On: 2006-02-01

A decent player for the price you pay. Does all the usual stuff any DVD player does. Plays VCD, SVCD, etc. Hacks are available to play region free discs.
Cons: Is slow while inserting and removing the disc. Tends to hang sometimes with disc inside. Could be due to scratched discs or improper formatted discs. Solution is to turn the power off by removing the power cord and then powering on.

Overall: a gr8 DVD player for simply watching burned movies or as a back up player.
Good item for good price     On: 2006-02-01

I liked this DVD player so much. I use it for MP3s also. Using since 1.5 years. Good working condition so far. Also can be used for 220Volts
Good for the money!!     On: 2006-02-01

Hi..I have been using this player for almost a year now... works good and serves the purpose. I bought another one for my cousin and he is happy too.
good buy for good price     On: 2006-02-01

This is a very good dvd player which supports NTSC and PAL formats. So i mainly brought it to take to India. It plays VCDs, DVDs (in both format) and also mp3s
All together its a good product. Like it
Great for the price!     On: 2006-01-30

I was pretty apprehensive about this product after I read the reviews from some of the users who had rated 3 stars or lower. But I still thought that it would be worth the risk (...). Taking the risk seems to have paid off. I m completely satisfied with this product. No problems of the device heating up as mentioned by some people.
Advantages:
1. Extremely cheap.
2. Plays almost any kind of CDs/DVDs. It doesnt have any problems with region specific DVDs, VCDs, mp3s etc.
3. Compact.
4. Nice multi-function remote.

Drawbacks:
1. It doesnt have an auto-power off.
2. Remote uses non-standard (non-AA) batteries that may be expensive.
Both these drawbacks are nothing as compared to the price.
beware of rebate scam!     On: 2006-01-30

On the rebate form they provide a place to cut out the UPC code and a place to write the serial number. Then they reject the rebate claiming that youre supposed to cut the serial number from the box too. Probably, the clearest/most obvious rebate scam Ive ever fallen victim to. DVD player still works mostly, but I would never trust this company to buy anything else.
Not a 'DVD player' at all     On: 2006-01-26

This DVD player doesnt play half the DVDs you put in it. It freezes up, displays ugly digital pixellation of image, and then refuses to play DVD altogether. I bought it because of the multi-region capabilities. It does a horrible job of converting PAL to NTSC. My 5-year-old no-name DVD player does a better job. This should not even be listed as a DVD player. I am in the process of trying to get a refund after 2 of these units failed to perform their duties.
ZERO stars
Check out other dvd players     On: 2006-01-25

We received this as a gift and it is just not worth the hassle. It cant play any dvd all the way through. It is always freezing on every movie. It doesnt matter if its an old dvd, or one that is brand new. My suggestion is check out some other players, this is a good price but a troublesome dvd player.
You get what you pay for     On: 2006-01-24

Ive had this DVD player for about a year now, which is saying a lot. What it isnt saying is that every two weeks, I have to take it apart and put it back together again because it decides to randomly seize up and not respond to either remote commands or commands on the console itself. Ive had to unscrew the top of the device to get my DVD out on several occasions. So if you are okay with spending $40 on something that wont always work, that youll have to service every other week, then by all means. Im retiring my player and getting a Sony or Panasonic one instead.
Irritating     On: 2006-01-23

Avoid this player at all cost. I know this player costs about 30 dollars, but I received this player as a gift. It is my first DVD player so I wasnt really expecting anything with great performance. But what good is any DVD player if it doesnt play DVDs. About one month after I got it, it started to skip in both picture and sound on every single movie I put in. Ive looked on many sites and this seems to be a common problem with this player. I suggest paying a few extra bucks for a better quality player.
Great gift idea!!     On: 2006-01-21

Brief description:
Small size, very handy remote.
Works for wide voltage range 100 to 240V.
Region free, plays all dvds, cds, mp3.
Portable, lightweight.
Doesnt look very nice, bright, but still OK.
Purchased $20 rebate and 5% off additionally, so eventual cost was $16.
Hit or Miss     On: 2006-01-20

This DVD is really a hit or miss item. We have two. One works fine. The other freezes and skips. Cyberhome is a bad company. They have poor customer service and will not replace your item without you paying a fee even when it is broken straight out of the box. I made the mistake of cutting off the UPC before playing a DVD straight through so I cannot return it to Amazon. My mistake, I know.
Dont Rely on Cyberhome Rebate     On: 2006-01-20

[...] Its Good for 240V usage and you can play VCDs. You can keep it as a back up to watch 240V, PAL based video.
REBATE FRAUD     On: 2006-01-19

NO REBATE FROM THESE CROOKS. They owe me $20.

They send postcard declining rebate. They have my UPC cut from carton and my unit serial number. Rebate sent on time, arrived on time and purchased item during rebate time period.

Unit performs badly. Last Cyberhome product I buy.
good service and quality     On: 2006-01-19

the DVD player I got is small and nice and the service of amazon is exellent. the only problem is that the DVD player can not play the kind of DVD which has more than movie in a single piece. overall I am satified due to the lower price and good service.
SUPER FOR THE PRICE     On: 2006-01-18

Just what we wanted - unobtrusive, diminuitive, 5 minute hookup, ideal for rental dvds....
Pretty bad     On: 2006-01-15

The only reason I bought this is that it supports upto 240 V (for gifting to someone in India) and has multi-region support.

However, it does not play more than half of my DVD collection. Those that play get stuck mid-way. This does not happen with my other DVD player.
I just use only 1 month. It's not work.     On: 2006-01-15

Do yourself a favor and spend a little more.
by: lighten_up_already2    On: 2006-01-11

I owned one of these for about six months and it did work. It still works, and Im giving it away due to the following annoyances that finally made me go out and spend the money that I should have spent in the first place.

Specifically, it locked up and froze on a certain TV series DVD set that my other DVD players would play just fine.

Also, when I tried to use the the S-Video output, long after the warranty expired, I found the output connection was loose and didnt work.

Unless you really want something unique to this machine, like its small footprint, my advice is to spend a little more up front.

I finally did this, and for twenty dollars more I got a low-end Panasonic unit with:

Vastly superior sound reproduction.

No locking up on my TV series DVD set mentioned earlier.

A display on the unit that tells me what the unit is doing using actualy numbers, letters, and so on. It even says "hello" when you power it up. You take those things for granted until you get a unit that has nothing but a green light for on and a red light for standby.

And, many more ways to adjust the output to suit my particular TV. My LCD TV rocks now!

So, I would have been much better off to spend a little more up front.

CyberHome CH-DVD 300S Progressive-Scan DVD Player     On: 2006-01-11

I have the exact the same thing, same product, there is not way I ever paid 49.99 for a brand new one from the store. I paid $32.98 from walmart over a year ago, it still works and its great, but I guess ya cant beat that price when its brand new, not used!!
The best DVD player I've ever owned!!     On: 2006-01-05

One day I was shopping at Walmart and noticed a rather inexpensive DVD player by a company I had never heard of..It was kind of small and the price was right and my RCA DVD player was on its last legs so I said what the heck and boy..was I pleasantly surprised! This little gem of a player does everything! For a little over $30 I rate this player as one of the best bargains out there! The picture quality is really good and I have never had a DVD freeze up on me like I used to with my RCA player. I think I am going to pick up another one for our second TV..for $30 you cant beat it!
AMAZING RELIABLE HIGH QUALITY PLAYER!     On: 2006-01-05

Hello all, we use this player in our Salon. We have it connected to a RCA to Coax converter, so that we can feed DVD video to 5 different TVs without needing 5 different players.

Our cyberhome player has been playing DVDs, for 12hrs/day, for 6 months now. The player has been running for that many hours and that many days, and it runs great! Not a hitch, not a problem! Its AWESOME!
Our unit goes through a lot of abuse, and just keeps going. Cant beat it for the $29.99 I paid for it! I did know their was a overheating problem with this perticular modle unit, so I just glued 4 bottlecaps from 2liter soda bottles to the bottem pads of the unit, to raise it about 1 inch off its stand. And since then, unit runs very cool to the touch! JUST A TIP FOR YA ALL THAT WAS!

ENJOY YOUR MOVIES!

Awesome unit for the price     On: 2006-01-02

This is a great bargain: very compact (easily transportable on vacation), 110-220v capable, multi-region capable (after a very simple code programming), really decent picture quality, good quality remote ... for less than 50$: WOW!
I dont expect this player to necessary last for very long but as long as it does, Ill play it with a smile on my face. At this price, buy two of them and keep a spare one!
Very Good Product     On: 2006-01-01

I cant get to technical BUT I can say its work Great for me. I was worried when I saw its size, its very small but it powerful and I love it.
An Awesome Player & Experience     On: 2005-12-31

We ordered this unit late Monday, it showed up on Thursday. I hooked it up to an old tv we inherited many years ago that had the three RC input ports on the back and had it running in less than 5 minutes. It is the first DVD player we have purchased and we were a bit reluctant in buying to make sure we understood it would run on our old tv. We were able to download the manuals here before we bought it, checked out the installation and felt pretty comfortable, we had also checked out the reviews here and on some other sites. We are extremely pleased and would recommmend it to anybody as an economical first DVD player or as a unit for 2nd and 3rd tvs in your home, or in an RV. I also found the manual to be very helpful, especially the inside front cover with its Quick Setup Guide (plus it is repeated on the back cover).

We were also a bit hesitant in buying to make sure this unit would allow us to keep our old VCR hooked up at the same time without having to change cables to switch between them. The manual helped us understand that we could.

I fed it a cheap $1 DVD from a discount store (an old Superman comic dvd) and it popped right up on our channel 91 and played great. Then I verified we could easily switch between the dvd player, the vcr and the television stations. It all works together smoothly.

There are others out there with more features (and more cost), but we are ecstatic about this one!!

Plays almost anything     On: 2005-12-29

What I liked the most about this player is that it plays virtually anything that you deposit in it. PAL or NTSC, DVD, VCD, CD, -+R/RW whatever. It doesnt convert from PAL to NTSC (or otherwise), though. So, if you are playing a PAL disc, you need a TV that supports PAL.

Well, there are a few things missing on this player. It doesnt have an optical audio output. Also, there are no displays on the player. Counters etc are displayed on the TV. This is a shortcoming that needs some getting used to. It is okay for video discs, but if you are playing CDs, it is a handicap. I didnt want to reduce the rating for it because the price advantage kind of makes up for the shortcomings.

Otherwise, it is compact and I have no complaints about the finish. A good buy.
Did not work, RETURNED     On: 2005-12-29

Avoid this one. I read the poor reviews about the units short lifespan, overheating, etc. But, I decided to take a chance on it based on its low price and many features. Well, it would not play ANY of the many commercial DVDs I tried, not to mention burned ones. It always displayed BAD DISC. I decided that the lifespan of zero days was indeed short, too short, so I returned it. Kudos to Amazon for paying shipping both ways. Hopefully I will be refunded without incident.

Lastly, Amazon has increased the price on this since my purchase, so buyer beware.
great product and great value     On: 2005-12-28

doesnt seem to be anywhere worse than my OTHER $200 sony DVD player
Excellent region free capable DVD player     On: 2005-12-28

The reason I bought this DVD player (bought Dec 2005 at BestBuy) is for the ease with which this player can be made to play DVDs bought from other countries. My family has a number of DVDs with great childrens content from our relatives who live aross the ocean -- we used to play them only on a personal computer and hook it up to a TV. Not the most elegant solution, Im telling ya. I did some research on the Internet and came across this model. Of course, as most (all?) DVD players available at major retailers, this DVD comes preprogrammed as region-1 capable of playing only North American NTSC DVDs (or region ALL DVDs that are supposed to be played on all DVD players). I consider the whole DVD region business to be a nuisance as it prevents me from playing perfectly legal DVDs that I am not able to buy otherwise here in the States. To make the story short, reprogramming the unit to be region free is a breath. Beware -- the hack is model specific, and can vary for units manifactured at different places (with different firmware). For my unit, bought at BB just recently (12/2005), it works like magic. Details of how to do that are widely available on the Internet (e.g. google CH-DVD 300 videohelp and follow the second link thereof).

In short, its a fantastic unit doing what I needed for little money. If all you care for is a region-1 DVD player then the unit is probably a usual low budget / not bad image quality player. But if you need to play DVDs from other countries -- this player is a sure winner. Get one and see for yourself. Good luck!
NOT a multi-region player.     On: 2005-12-24

This is NOT a multi-region player. I was so excited to pop my region 2 copy of Saving Private Ryan in, only to get the message "Incorrect Region."

But, for 19 bucks after rebate, it seemed like a good second player for the bedroom. Except the picture sucks.

Amazon gets an F minus for this one.
Awsome DVD Player @ Awsome Price!!!     On: 2005-12-24

This is one great DVD player. Its so cool b/c you can burn pictures to a DVD or CD and put it in and have a slideshow its so great for the price. It has great quality picture/sound and it playes burned DVDs. It is also small so its an all around great DVD player. What I was most surprised with was the price. They say you get what you pay for but not in this case.
Excellent Player for the Price     On: 2005-12-22

I bought this from Amazon back when it was $99.99 and it has been a fine player. It starts up fairly fast and is progressive scan, which is nice for my HD TV, but the real selling point for me was the ability to make it region 0. Yes, look around on the net and in some forums. There is a code you can enter thru the remote that will allow it to play any DVD from anywhere in the world. A very good buy.
CyberHome - Garbage     On: 2005-12-21

CyberHome = Worst quality products.

Email CyberHome three times. No response.

They dont support their products.
crap     On: 2005-12-21

When I got it the remote did not work, then when I ejected a DVD it got stuck in the player and scratched the DVD making it unplayable. I will returned this one and am going with a different brand.
Don't expect a rebate check     On: 2005-12-20

Product has worked fine for me so far -- barebones, but thats all I wanted. The problem is that Cyberhome wont honor the rebate. So keep that in mind when calculating the price of this low-cost unit. I love buying from Amazon but if I had to do it over again Id get a cheap unit somewhere else without having to deal with Cyberhomes rebate department.
DOESN'T PLAY AUDIO ON SOME DISCS     On: 2005-12-20

To be fair, the audio plays normally on most DVDs I have tried in this player. But Criterion Collection discs in particular (as well as a few other, non-Criterion discs) do not play audio. You may think I had some defective DVDs on my hands -- not true. I played them on my computer and everything was fine.

I was excited to find such a cheap DVD player too! But I wouldnt get it again. Cheap or not, the thing should work properly.
Inexpensive but flaky     On: 2005-12-18

I bought this DVD player because it was cheap and small. It fit perfectly atop my mini audio system. However, I decided to return it today because while watching a brand-new DVD, the skipping got progressively worse. It played the first half of the movie flawlessly, but then started to skip more and more. I removed the disc to check for any flaws or fingerprints. Finding none, I put the disc back in and used scene selection in the menu to go back to the chapter I was watching. I selected the chapter and nothing happened. However, I couldnt stop the disc, either. All I could do was power down and try again. I still couldnt skip to the chapter. I turned the unit off and on again and tried using the fast forward button to advance chapter by chapter, but at about chapter 15, it froze yet again. I ended up having to watch the last ten minutes of the movie on my laptop.

Since the resume function doesnt work like it should, either; you need to be able to use the chapter search function. Since that doesnt work well, its going back to WalMart, and I might just have to live with a full-size player instead.
Superb for the money     On: 2005-12-14

Ok, this is a $30 DVD player. $30.

You can spend a vast amount more than $30, and you will get a lot more DVD player for your money. It will do more, look nicer, have more features and likely be a lot more reliable.

If you are buying a $30 DVD player, you have to take this into account.

I bought this because it plays region free DVDs, and to buy a nicer player that has been hacked will typically set you back a couple of hundred. There are only a few that can be reset by software on the US market.

For my $30 I got composite video out, and coax digital audio out, meaning my picture quality is excellent and the sound is 5:1, and I cant tell the difference between coax and optical for the 5:1.

It plays my region 2 DVDs, meaning I dont have to rebuy all my UK DVDS (Im an Expat from England, most of them you cat even buy in the US).

Ive had it over a year, and it is going strong. Ive had more than $30 worth out of it already, so if it died tomorrow, Id buy another right away. In fact, Im thinking of buying another anyway for the bedroom.

The included remote is barely used, I programmed my multifunction for it instead.

If you need region free, highly recommended.
If you dont need region free, spend a bit more to get something nicer, or deal with the fact this is a cheap DVD player :)
A great DVD player for any price     On: 2005-12-13

I havent found a disk this machine wont play. Unlike my Panasonic that this replaced, which I gave to my son. Disks that I have no problems playing, his machine wont even recognize. With its output options, Progressive scan, S-Video, Composite video, stereo audio or coaxial digital output, there isnt much you cant connect this to. It also has a very small footprint, so it will fit in practically anywhere. Plus, it also plays CDs (MP3 and standard),and VCD/SVCD disks.

All in all a great player. I havent had a bit of trouble with this in the time Ive owned mine (over a year now).
Cool...if it worked!     On: 2005-12-12

After reading the reviews for this machine, I decided to risk getting a lemon given the cheap price and good feature set. However, after 1 day of use, it stopped working. The S video connection and component video connection both stopped working. All I can say is you get what you pay for. Its on its way to the return bin now.

My advice: skip this unless you want to waste your time with returns.
great value     On: 2005-12-10

Very sleek, smart for the price $20 (WOW - after rebate), plus it plays so many disc formats. This replaces my old Panasonic player finally. Create your own media and play anytime.
This can be a true international gift as it works for PAL/NTSC and other format.
0 Star if possible     On: 2005-12-09

At first I was much pleased, but as soon as the short warranty ended, it started to malfunctioning. Finally it stopped working. Theres reason why this unit is so cheap. 0-Star!
Will not get your rebates     On: 2005-12-08

I bought this item from Amazon and did send all the rebates the very next day with everything enclosed. But I did get a postcard from Cyberhome stating that they did not get the rebate on time. So dont count on the rebates from Cyberhome.

Spend a little more $ for a product that works...     On: 2005-12-08

I received this as a gift, but really - its just garbage. It often skips entire scenes of movies or just freezes on a scene without being able to advance, pause or play. The remote works about 50% of the time. Sometimes loading the movie will take several minutes. It has even taken me up to 5 minutes to get the tray to open to remove the DVD. Im electronically capable enough to assure you that this is not user error.

The region free capability others have mentioned means little to me in my daily usage. I just want it to play basic DVDs.

Honestly - spend $20 more bucks for a product that works well and wont interrupt your movie viewing.
Works great.     On: 2005-12-07

For $20 after rebate, this was a great deal. Been using it for a couple of weeks. No problems playing any DVD I tried. Runs smoothly. If it lasts one to two years, it deserves its five stars.
Lost Color After Six Months' Use     On: 2005-12-04

Its more than worth its prize     On: 2005-12-04

It really serves it purpose decently. Sleek, very portable.
Cyberhome rebate process is awesome. I got the rebate after 4 weeks :-)
Biggest Piece of Crap     On: 2005-12-03

I had this unit for about 6 months before I had to throw it out. It skips and the sound doesnt match the video on several DVDs. When it wouldnt even play some of the movies I own I decided that it was time to stop being cheap and invest in a quality DVD player. I wouldnt give 4 cents for this piece of junk.
Has some maddening problems.     On: 2005-11-28

When this machine works, its great. But my unit has some defects that would stop me from recommending it to someone else.

1) If I connect the unit to my TV via component video, I lose audio in the right channel. Connecting via S-video or video out, this problem does not occur.

2) Once in a while there some disks it has trouble playing sound from. I stumbled on a workaround that "fixes" it, albeit temporarily. First throw in a DVD that the Cyberhome has no trouble with, and play a bit of the movie. Then switch on over to the troublesome DVD. You should now get sound.

3) And related to the 2nd problem, sometimes even the disks that dont have the missing audio problem will then have that very same problem. The solution is to disconnect the units power plug for a bit.

If this player did not have these defects, it would be a great value.
Don't waste your time and money in this item     On: 2005-11-24

This item is the worst dvd player I had ever bough. Skips, and stops too much. Is a pain in the neck trying to watch a movie. Well you get what you pay for!
Not worh it     On: 2005-11-23

It plays cds fine. Its the dvds it has major problems with. It played for maybe a week. Then it started pausing, freezing then it altogether stopped. I emailed cyberhome for assistance and they never got back to me. Figures. Dont purchase it. Its not worth the money.
Excellent Choice     On: 2005-11-23

I bought this DVD player a year ago and since then it has worked without any problem. It plays anything that I throw at it. I mean anything (of course, except DivX)...The picture quality is good, if not great...Sound quality is just OK...
CyberHome CH-DVD     On: 2005-11-21

I have had the CyberHome DVD player for two years and it performs very well considering its cost. I prefer it to a slightly older but more expensive JVC player that I own.

It can be a little quirke, but I have found that the best (but unpublished) trouble shooting strategy is to remove it from a power source and then reboot (same strategy NWA airlines used to reboot its computers a few year ago at Narita before it flew me back over the Pacific). I figure if NWA pulls the power and reboots a $50 million device to make it work, its asking very little to use the same action on a $39.00 DVD player. The strategy works every time for me. This product is good value for the money.
This DVD player sucks so bad     On: 2005-11-20

We had this dvd player downstairs in our fraternity house and it would make us so angry constantly till we decided to throw it off the roof. It constantly freeze up out of nowhere, the controls are bad, and it cant play burned movies. You get what you pay for, a really bad dvd player. stay away from this brand
Very good and inexpensive DVD player     On: 2005-11-19

I have been using this machine for one and half years. It never had any problems. It plays different formats....
I bought it at Bestbuy for $20.
Best buy for a do all DVD player     On: 2005-11-19

It plays DVDs from any region...and from all types of burners, all formats Ive thown at it anyway.
great but....     On: 2005-11-17

although the unit is region-free and can play whatever format the company advertised..., it only lasted for a year. so... dont let the price tempted you.
An okay unit while it worked... Died within a year.     On: 2005-11-14

Just another cheap DVD player. Built with poor quality components, which have a very limited lifespan. Mine died a slow, agonizing death. It looks like one of the capacitors has failed.

It does PAL/NTSC, and its easy to make region free. It does not play anamorphic PAL correctly. The picture quality is average at best. The PAL->NTSC conversion is poor by todays standards with visible frame drops, and juttering in fast camera movements. It does provide a DTS output, which is nice.

I wouldnt buy another one. Really, one is paying $40 for about a years worth of usability. Then, like me, you will probably throw it into a landfill, and wonder if were doing anything other than damaging the environment and helping Chinas economy to grow.
Power in a small package     On: 2005-11-13

This is a great DVD player it has a great piture and plays copied movies like a pro weather it be +R or -R it runs them great the only problem i can really tell is that it like to throw the subtitles on the screen but you can take them off with the push of a button, i mean come on its cheap and good how can ya beat that.
Great features, one fatal flaw
by: rich_r    On: 2005-11-13

Despite all the great features -- multi-region capability, plays almost any disc, etc. -- this unit has one fatal flaw. That is, when its turned off, it continues to draw enough current that it stays warm to the touch. Initially, although I cant imagine why it should need to do so, I didnt think it was a big deal.

Then a few months later, the unit conked out. It powers up, but it no longer puts out a usable signal. Lots of snow, no color, rolling picture, etc.

I can only guess its because something in the electronics overheated and failed.

So, if this unit appeals to you, I highly suggest plugging it into something that will cut power to it when youre not using it. Something such as a power strip or a switched outlet on your home theater receiver or cable box.

If you plug it into the wall or another always-on outlet, dont be surprised if a few months later you find it has baked itself into becoming a high-tech doorstop (like mine).
Not the hottest DVD player, but...     On: 2005-11-09

Dont listen to that guy who couldnt play DVD-Rs; I successfully played one on this player (two of them, in fact) some people had in my dorm hall.

Its neat that this player can be region-free...like that!

This player can successfully play an extended "Lord of the Rings" DVD set.

While theres no DTS output to be found, I can see some people getting this player!
disappointing     On: 2005-11-08

We watched 3 dvds the first week. Without warning it goes into slow motion (freeze frame by frame) without sound. This has happened 4 times in only the FIRST THREE MOVIES. We will return it to Best Buy.
Couldn't read DVD-R     On: 2005-11-03

My unit worked with commerically pressed DVDs, but could not read DVD-Rs. Too bad, back it goes.
