Dont let the low price deter you from trying these out. I auditioned them at a local electronics store and was surprised at how well they compared to other bookshelf speakers costing two or three times as much. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of clean bass they generated. However, the upper midrange seemed lacking and the treble was way too bright. Happily, I was able to fix these flaws with some minor modifications - see below.
The cabinet construction and materials are basic, but get the job done. Its made of 3/8" fiberboard with a simulated black woodgrain veneer. The removable speaker grille is made of black fabric stretched over a frame of the same black fiberboard. The all black color, combined with its small size, make these bookshelf speakers almost disappear - perfect for those whose significant other objects to larger tower speakers.
The 5.25 inch woofer uses a PVA treated paper cone and foam surround. The tweeter is a 1 inch titanium done. The crossover is a single 2.2uF capacitor. These speakers are ported, and the port exits to the rear, so be sure to leave a few inches of clearance behind these speakers so the port can breathe properly. The speakers are NOT magnetically shielded, so keep them away from your CRT based TVs or monitors.
These speakers BADLY need a crossover makeover to get the tweeter under control. I added a 2.4 ohm, 5 watt rated resistor in series with the tweeter to tone down the excessive highs. I then replaced the 2.2uF electrolytic capacitor with two 2.2uF polyester capacitors in parallel, for a total of 4.4uF. This brought down the crossover frequency to around 4300 Hz, which filled in the weak upper mids/lower treble. These mods make this speaker a real joy to listen to, whereas before, the excess sibilance was sometimes irritating, and the weak upper mids left vocals seem flat and distant. Give these mods a shot! I hope they work for you.

first-i am disapointed w/amazon for not specifying " sold each " be careful. I had to re-order once i recd my first unit. Maddening ! Who buys 1 speaker ? Shame on amazon for the deception !! So i bought two for $52. Still not bad. The spec sheet is also confusing. One says 55k-20K
another part states 75k-20K. As it turns out their 75k. ( Good bassey speakers are 45-60K.) If you pair these up w/ larger say 6-8" 3 way units as i have, then they compliment ea.other fine. If you want these for a sm. audio system, in a bedrm or sm. office their fine. They look and sound good. Appear well made. I like the compactness. A good buy overall.

A pair of these would run you around 45 for shipping and everything, but theyre well worth it. I bought a pair for my turntables and a pair of more expensive Sonys for my computer, and honestly, they both sound the same quality. Its pretty good, a lot better than just standard speakers, thats for sure. No real crackling or hizzing going on with these, I sugguest buying the Labtec Pulse 485 subwoofer speaker set, cutting the wires of those speakers, and using them on these, and plugging them into the subwoofer. Creates a great deep sound, and its what I have done to both my computer and turntables. A lot cheaper than a stereo receiver. If you got the money, these are a good buy.
