5 disc DVD player     On: 2008-01-03

This thing works great for the price. Have not had any problems. Have to clarify that we dont use it all the time. Regularly, though.
good piece, horrible interface     On: 2006-10-20

This item has great functionality, features, etc. However, it has one of the worst design and interface issues of any piece of electronics I own (so 3 stars instead of 4); examples:

-Most of the buttons are UNDER the DVD tray. This means if you want to put in a C/DVD and play it, you open the tray, peak UNDER the tray to find the disc number, then press it. There shouldnt be ANY buttons under the tray, where its hard to see!

-Too much button pushing required to play c/dvd. First you have to press the applicable disc # button, then you wait until it loads up the disc and knows what it is, then you have to press play. It should just play the disc when you press the disc #.

-Too much button pushing required to change disc on remote: In order to change the disc, you have to press the "Disc change" button, then the disc #, and there is no "disc skip" button on the remote. What a pain!

Otherwise, it works well and is a great unit for a functional, upscaling CD/DVD changer. If you can deal with the frustrating controls and interface, I recommend it.
Good player when it works     On: 2006-04-08

The audio and video quality of this player were both good when it worked. The menus are a bit cumbersome but I was willing to put up with that for the price paid. The downside to this player is that it only worked 1 year. I didnt know much about panasonics reliability before this player. Now i know.
Buyer be warned.
Worth every bit of money spent     On: 2006-02-25

This machine is a knockout. Plays all kinds of discs seamlesslessly and the remote for a change is very user friendly. Its a must buy.
the price is right :-)     On: 2006-02-18

The price was right!I recieved it in record time! I recieved it within 24 hours which I wasnt expecting. The package came in excellent condition and easy to follow instructions for setting up. So far it plays excellent.
Panasonic DVD 786 silver     On: 2006-02-12

Great machine you can scale the dvd picture manually to what you
want or use remote presets for standard aspect ratios, which is great. The audio is almost perfectly balanced with optional center channel dialog enhancement. The audio is REALLY good when optomized very clear, and able to upscale 48Hz to 96Hz on taylor made mp3 . The function of the changing mechanisim is fat solid and faster than my philips machine, about 6 seconds between DVD discs. The manual is probbaly the worst I have seen, very disjointed and has you flipping from the back cover where there is a diagram of the remote with page numbers pointing to the remote buttons, ultimatley having the user fishing for answers, steep learning curve. DVD video play back is great and very error free with the usual detal, brightness, gamma options with also black depth level depth enhancement. The front panel function is also very good giving the user direct access to all five discs and changing functions and visual indication of the status of the player and discs. Overall very happy.
Pretty solid, good value     On: 2006-01-17

Im hardly an expert but if you are looking for a pretty solid multi-DVD player, this is a pretty good choice. I did a decent amount of research and in this price range, didnt see any that had the breadth of features and # of formats supported. Picture is also good but again I am not super picky when it comes to that. It is a little annoying that you cant do multi-disc random playing (only for 1 disc) and it doesnt identify what disc is in what slot (so u have to remember which disc is in which slot). Only been a couple months so well see how it holds up over time.
Perfect for the price     On: 2005-10-29

The price for the value simply cannot be beaten. I use this with a digital audio connection (coax), and both CD and DVD sound is incredible.

The "audio only" option is why i bought this, and it works great, while i dig my ipod, and mp3 collection, I sill like putting in a few CDs and hitting "random" and the audio only option makes it skip any DVDs you have in, to get fast disc switching, a must for the random function.

The only reason i dont give this "5 star" is it is not very intuitive at first, it literally took my 30 minutes to find certian functions. (bookmarking a DVD, random CD, ejecting on CD/DVD while playing another). But really, other than that, its perfect.
Happy Camper     On: 2005-09-02

It may take me a while to figure out all the remote buttons but so far it has done beautifully all the things I hoped it would, including jpeg slide shows, mp3 & cd playing - as well, of course, as playing dvds. Ive always experienced good reliability with Panasonic products and trust the F86 with provide the same.
Great value for the price and performance     On: 2005-08-23

This dvd player can do anything. I have a lot of vcd and dvd videos need to change quite often, Im a karaoker, this dvd palyer saved me lots of trouble. Although the disc changing speed is a little bit slow, its still acceptable. It can read anything I put inside, including discs have some scratches and other type of media which can not be played on my old RV32S.

If this F86S can still have long life, Ill stick to panasonic product for its low price, my old RV32S has been working for the last three years, the aged optic lens reduced its performance in reading discs. not for a H07 error, am I lucky?

This palyers appearance is somewhat different from the photo on the web, the lower section of front face looks more like mirror not black strip which I prefered, so I think maybe F86K is more stylish.
While $80 for this superb machine, Im more than satisfied.

suggested improvement: using distinguished highlight color to identify the # of tray socket, itll save the trouble of getting to the wrong disk after replacing in a new one, this could be annoying since the disc changing speed is not that fast. Although this improvement can be done by "DIY", I hope manufacture could offer this fuction, especially using "LED" to highlight the tray #, itll be handy at the night.
