It's Very Nice -     On: 2007-01-27

- but now I have a DivX-certified player which plays .AVI and .DIVX files *directly from the disk* - without the need to convert them to DVD (.VOB) standard first. Heh.

DO NOT BUY DAEWOO: DVD PLAYER BROKE DOWN AFTER ONLY 17 PLAYS
by: Anonymous    On: 2006-12-01

I was so excited when my Daddy gave this to me as a present-it was my first DVD player! When it worked, it worked OK. But after playing just 17 DVDs, it came up with "NO DISK" error when trying to load a DVD. My Daddy looked in the user manuals "Troubleshooting" section (written in rather bad English, by the way-even I could see that), saw advice to leave the player on with no disk inserted, in case there was condensation inside. He did that many, many times over many, many days, but we still got "NO DISK" error for every DVD, even though every one of those DVDs would play without any problem in another cheap portable DVD player we went and bought. He could not find any way to contact Daewoo customer support. Spend your money on a better brand product. No more Daewoo products for us.
DO NOT BUY     On: 2006-08-10

I bought this for college and didnt open it until after the return policy was up, and it doesnt work. The sound works, but there is no picture. Its not worth it, spend the extra money to buy a better brand.
Great DVD Player but not for VCD     On: 2005-07-30

I had this DVD player from Amazon.com due to the fact it is low price and other viewers gave it a five stars. It is a great machine, if you are only want to watch DVD, picture is crystal clear. However, when I put one of my VCDs in there, it wouldnt read and detect it. So I have to return it via USPS (it costs me about $10 to return, while only get a total refund of $40).

So as I said, if you are only looking to watch DVD and have a tight budget then this is a good product to get.
DO NOT BUY: BROKE DOWN IN LESS THAN 2 MOS.     On: 2005-07-30

I bought this model from Amazon because of the good review re format compatibility issues and its low price. Perhaps there is something to the adage you get what you pay for. Yesterday it inexplicably wouldnt turn on. Surprising considering low use: we used it one to two days a week (3 hours a week max.) for the seven weeks we had it. Very disappointed. Of course I threw out boxes and warranties, having assumed it would last for at least a year. Online user manuals had no solution for this issue. My spouse who is an electrical engineer could not fix it. I am bitter.
Love it!!     On: 2005-06-07

I took an advice of the review below and read some on-line reviews. Thats actually how Id decided to buy this DVD player. This is just an awesome deal. I went to other on-line stores to check the price and they are selling it about $80. I think $40 is nothing for this region-free, pregressive scan, and nice picture DVD player.
And I also love the design. Its so slim and thin.
Amazing All Regions Player For Less Than $40     On: 2005-05-19

This progressive scan DVD player is the steal of the century. The picture quality is excellent and if youre a fan of films from Asia or Europe, you can turn it into an all-regions player in two seconds using the remote control. (Other places on the net are selling the same region-free machine for $70. Save your money. You dont have to pay $30 for someone else to push six buttons on the remote.)

Its a progressive scan player but Ive discovered the picture on my Sony HD set is better when the Sony up-converts the signal and the Daewoo is set to output an interlaced signal.

Ive had it for about a week now and Im totally impressed. Check out a review on the 8100N on hometheaterhifi.com -- the testers there ranked it very well. It has a picture thats as good as players costing five times the $40.

If youre looking for a good all-regions player for peanuts you cant go wrong with the Daewoo 8100N.

I have a few beefs: the setup menu isnt as detailed as others and the remote isnt very exciting but for $39.99 I cant complain -- Im too dazzled by the amazing picture!
