More Information

very nice package     On: 2008-05-02

the player, headphones, car adaptor, charger, case... it has it all.
nice screen, plays great, very nice! nice price as well! we found it very useful, when our daughter, used it on the flight to Florida.
Disposable! will not last more than 90 days!     On: 2007-11-03

I bought this DVD player for our trip to Disney. The unit worked as expected and we had no problems there.
The surprise came after 4 months using this player a few minutes a day in the car. The DVD would take a LOOONG time to load and sometimes the video would freeze for a few seconds. I tried several DVDs, all ORIGINAL! At some point this device just gave up. I cant get it to play anything. It just gets stuck on the "Loading..." screen.

After trying to contact Audiovox for a warranty repair I had an unpleasant surprise when I found out that Audiovox only gives a 90 day warranty on their products. Aside from the fact that their website is useless when it comes to getting warranty information, their customer service reps were almost laughing when I mentioned "Warranty repair". I paid $100 dollars for this P.O.S. and they wanted to charge me $75+2 way shipping for repairs. Thats just ridiculous...

Audiovox, say goodbye to my business as I say goodbye to this crappy and disposable DVD you sold me.
Great for the Money     On: 2007-10-14

Great for road and flight trips. The black carrying case strap is an absolute joke. Did not even last through three uses. Otherwise, highly recommend. For the money, you are getting a solid product that keeps the kids happy while mom and dad try to drive and or sleep. I am most impressed by its durability...we have dropped it twice in the car and it does not skip when the kids are fighting over who gets to hold it. It is also compact and light. Easy to carry around.
Good quality for a good price     On: 2007-09-24

We love the dual headphone jack and 2 pair of headphones. Only complaint is that without the headphones, the volume does not go up high enough and is hard to hear over car noise even at full volume.
Portable DVD player     On: 2007-09-22

I love this! I take it with us whenever we are traveling by auto, and to dialysis to pass the time. The picture quality is wonderful. Although it has to be tilted the right way during sunlight hours. The sound volumn could be a bit better when not using the earphones, but overall I am very pleased with my purchase.
junk     On: 2007-09-08

Excellent Service     On: 2007-08-15

Kids enjoyed the DVD player while in the car on vacation. Fast shipping. Overall, an excellent experience.
Life Saver for European Trip     On: 2007-07-03

We took this DVD player to Italy with us for an 18-day family vacation. It was a lifesaver for our 7 & 9 year-old children. After a day of sightseeing, they would watch a movie back at the hotel prior to dinner. Also, it was good for long train rides. The headsets were comfortable (my husband and I used them on the airplane)and the screen was bright. We also watched a movie one night without the headphones -- and everyone could easily hear. Highly recommend.
GREAT LITTLE DVD FOR THE MONEY!     On: 2007-06-26

REALLY LIKE THIS DVD PLAYER, NICE PICTURE, GREAT FUNCTIONABILITY, NICE CASE AND ACCESSORIES. GREAT SOUND. I AM SURE THERE ARE BETTER, BUT FOR THE PRICE, YOU WOULD BE HARD PRESSED TO FIND ONE!
Amazing Value!     On: 2007-06-14

We were fortunate to get this DVD player on sale for less than $100 with shipping. It has been an amazing addition to our electronic collection!! It is superb for travel in the car. We also used it for our 2 year old while on a recent cruise. It comes with ALL the accessories that you need including two sets of headphones, power adapter, car adapter, rechargeable battery, straps for carrying and securing, and more! It plays all of our DVDS with NO SKIPPING at all - even in the car!

I have only one negative comment about this player... the volume is quite low when on the highest setting. It really is a personal player and probably wouldnt be too good for more than one person in a car unless you use the headphones.

Other than that, I think this player is an AMAZING value for money. I would have been satisfied paying $150+ for this little gem!
Not real impressed
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-06-09

I guess you get what you pay for. The battery life was not good at all...Im not even sure if I made it past 2 hours. Really disappointing since I wanted the DVD player to last on a long flight. I guess if you are not running on battery power it would serve the purpose though.
Great Value
by: eganmin    On: 2007-06-08

I purchased 2 of the DVD Bonus Packs for my nieces and were thrilled when they arrived. They were neatly packed and everything was accounted for.
The Bonus Pack is a Priced Very Reasonably and if you would have purhased
items separately you would have paid alot more $$$ than what was paid
for the Bonus Pack with all inclusive. With free shipping to boot definitely would recommend to buy.
Great product
by: deborah1852    On: 2007-06-08

I bought this for my daughter after researching others. For the money its great. My daughter cannot stop watching her favorite DVDs and CDs on it...and it worked very well in the car. I really likes the straps that make it so stable while driving and the dual headsets.
Excellent

Its very compact and complete. You can placed in car to kids see it without touching. I like it very much!

This DVD player was perfect for the plane ride to Hawaii with an antsy 17 month old! No complaints here!
great bang for the buck
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-05-21

Bought to keep our 2 year old occupied on flights. So far it has worked great and allows 2 to listen simultaneously. Only flaw is that battery wont fit on player when in carrying case. Great deal for under $[...].
Good value & quality
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-05-21

The DVD player set included everything I needed for use in the car. The picture quality is great. The headsets fit comfortably. My kids love it! Its perfect for those long drives.
Audiovox 7" portable dvd player
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-05-16

7" is small but it gives the illusion of HD and is fine for travelling children. Oddly, the volume and brightness controls are identical-to-touch wheels out of sight on the side which results in kids (and adults) messing up the image when they want to adjust the sound.
Great value
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-05-15

For the price of the dvd it was worth it. It is great on airplanes or long trips in the car to keep the kids occupied. All the accessaries come with it.
Overall good value for money
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-05-14

not the greatest of produycts but is cheap. Good vale for kids at the back of the car.
Excellent Product
by: vwarren8476    On: 2007-05-14

I bought this for my 8 yr old daughter a month ago. I was surprised how fast I received it and how easy it is to operate. Ive used it at my work place to see how well it works, excellent. It is mainly use in the car for my daughter during trips and she loves it! I love that it came with two earphones and a carrying case. Great price for a great product!
Everything I hoped for
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-05-14

I got the product as specified, and found no problems with it to date. Works fine, and I like that it came with the headphones, case, ect as it seems to make this player a better value for the money. I have hooked it up to a tv, and it works great for being a portable. I like that it is widescreen since it makes watching the widescreen dvds easier on the eyes. As far as sound goes, the speakers are plenty loud enough for indoors or out - so long as there isnt a lot of heavy background noise. For this reason alone, I would recomend the headphones for car travel- which come with the player. The head phones are foldable, which is a nice feature, cause it cuts down on the space needed to store them, but they are also plasic, so probably a good idea to get a heavier duty set for young children so they dont break the headphones by mistake. Also, it does have 2 headphone jacks, (both of which function fine) and you can hook up a game system or camcorder to it if you so choose - although I havent hooked one up as of yet to see how it works. I charged up the battery, and it gives me enough power to watch about 2.5 hours of movie - which since most movies are usually about 2 hours or so, this is plenty of time to watch one movie, and a few bonus features... without needing a recharge. All in all, I shopped around, and feel this was the best buy for the money.
Travel Portable DVD Player
by: alexalvia    On: 2007-05-13

I love this Audiovox D1708PK 7" Ultra Slim Line Portable DVD Player with Bonus Pack. Got everything in it, and its really good for travelling. You can watch movie anywhere and even on the car, just plug it in to the cigarette lighter or to the car power outlet. I received the product at no time and in excellent condition, great job. I highly recommend it to anyone--price is very reasonable.
Great Idea but not worth the money...
by: designer101    On: 2007-05-13

I researched portable dvd players for my 3 yr. olds birthday. I wanted her to be able to use it in the car and anywhere else she preferred. The idea for this dvd player/carrier is great...but upon installing it in the car, the straps tore off the bag and we had to "engineer" it to hang from the seats. The player played fine; but I didnt think it was worth the $$$.
Great Deal
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-05-13

I was very impressed with the quality of this product for the price. You get way more than what you would expect. This is not the first time I have had products similar to this but it is the first time that I have been happy with it.
DON'T LOOK ANY FURTHER !!!

Great Product
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-05-12

What a great product. This was the cheapest I could find for what was offered. When I looked for comparable players, this had everything. The other products didnt have the case and headphones, which were included with this purchase. The sound and picture is great.I may buy another one later on.
Two thumbs up from the two year old
by: gbutler39    On: 2007-05-09

Like many we bought this in the vain attempt to keep our daughter happy during frequent flights to visit the granparents. Was a bit concerned about volume as many have discussed (daughter is not ready for headphones yet). If you sit near the engines, you will have to crank it up and thereby also giving your neighboring passengers the joy that is Blues Clues.

Pretty tough machine, daughters knocked it on the floor a few times and it barely skipped a beat. Decent battery life. Now if I can just get the airlines to let her watch it the last 25 minutes of the flight so she doesnt scream to have it back ...
DVD player

excellent quality for the money. Given as a gift and they loved it.
Anixous to Use
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-04-23

After reading all the reviews that rated this product as negative I was leary to purchase. I ordered the item and received it within two business days. We plan on using it during our plane ride to Disney. I have been using it for about a week. Everything works as expected. The battery last about 2 hours. Yes it is a problem that you cannot charge and use the adapter while still viewing a DVD. I found that my JVC camcorder adapter works with this player. The instructions for the button controls are alittle to brief and leaves some questions on what is being described. Overall I would recommend this to others. One thing I saw was that his product was discontinued as of March 2007. so you better purchase soon.
An excellent buy!
by: marymassung    On: 2007-04-21

I was somewhat hesitant to purchase this item due to the comments about the sound (being not loud enough) because I am hearing impaired. However, because a friend had this item and praised it so highly, I decided to get it and order a compact speaker to go with it. When the player arrived, I immediately gave it a try. I couldnt figure out why others said the volume was not good enough! Even being hard of hearing, I had no difficulty hearing my exercise dvds.

It is possible that there are levels of sound that others are accustomed to hearing that I have not heard in years and, therefore, do not miss. Or, it might be that the volume might not be good enough in a large room full of talking people or in a moving car. However, alone in my bedroom (about 12x13), I had no difficulty with the volume being too low! Nor did I have any difficulty understanding what was being said.

If you are looking for a portable dvd player for playing exercise dvds this is well worth the money!

Skeptical Electronics Buyer LOVES this item
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-04-13

I read each review on this site...thrice. I compared products and prices online and in stores. I contemplated this purchase for several months - batting back and forth between Polaroid, Emerson, Philips (names much more familiar to me) and Audiovox (not familiar at all). I finally decided to take the plunge - I trusted Amazon to assist should I experience any issues. I am so glad I did. We only received the item today, but my 5-year old and I tested the begeezus out of it and so far we love it. The sound quality, with headphones, is fantastic. The picture quality is great. I absolutely love the bonus items that accompanied the DVD player. For those of you who hate spending precious movie-watching time trying to figure out how to get the mini remote battery door opened, the battery comes pre-installed. LOVE IT! My only initial con is that the sound quality without headphones leaves much to be desired, but we plan to use it in mainly in the car for long road trips and my husband and I dont necessarily want to listen to Disney movies for 15 hours straight! Seriously the best $100 Ive spent in a while. I will be sure to update after our first major road trip next month.
Should have read more reviews...
by: latterells    On: 2007-04-12

We were so excited to get this product. The price and the bonus pack were perfect. Unfortunately, we had the same problem that I now see several other reviewers had - it never worked. When you turn it on it makes a grinding/clicking sound and says "Loading" and then....nothing. I think the laser reader is broken. Maybe because its completely exposed - poor design.
Ultra product for the price!
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-04-11

This is the best 100.00 spent in a long time. Yes, the sound quality could be better, but it does the job quite well. I bought it for my daughter when we take 3 hour car trips to see my son. Usually she is complaining about the length of the trip. With this DVD player she was entertained the whole way and said it was the shortest trip she has taken! Borrowing movies for free from the local library was the icing on the cake. All the accessories worked, and I would recommend this to anyone.
Excellent Purchase
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-04-03

I bought one of these last year for my daughter. She was afraid to ride in the car after a recent accident. This took that fear right away! It keeps her mind busy on the movie instead of on the road. The included travel bag is easy to install We switch it from car to car all the time. The fact that it comes with two sets of headphones is great for when she has friends along. My boyfriends son liked it so much that we bought him one for Christmas this year. When we go to Grandmaa house we plug it into her TV so we can watch DVDs on the TV screen (she only has a VCR). This is a very good buy all around.
Great Player
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-04-02

This DVD player is all I expected - great picture, works well in my vehicle, accessories are a plus. The on/off switch is a bit hard to use but I can live with that. Great buy in my opinion.
Most accessories for the price

A very nice machine with many accssories that other retailers are charging extra for. This item was $219.00 at Sears as sold by Amazon for under a hundred dollars. Great Value!
Great For The Kids

A must have!!!!! The kids are well entertained while traveling.
good

It works great. Although I cannot get the VCDs to work. Great toy for kids on the road
Very happy with it
by: kevjenjon894    On: 2007-03-26

I have not had any problems with the player. We use it all the time in the kitchen, car, in the yard, even in the bedroom at night. You can also view photos and play mp3s. The kit came with everything I needed.
DVD
by: urnit    On: 2007-03-23

Great price, good product. The only thing that I think should be changed is the earpieces. On a plane it was a little hard to hear what was going on in the movie at times with all of the engine news from a plane. But all in all, the screen was clear, easy to use.
The carrying case is great! I can see where in a car it would be great to put on the back of the seats and let the childern watch, for that matter adults.
Great unit, great package
by: platte_river_trading_company    On: 2007-03-19

No problems, easy to use, lots of cool stuff with this package, kids love it, I love it, have used it hours and hours with no problems. Sweet price. Good deal
Gift
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-03-18

This came on time and gave for gift she loves it and tells me over and over how good it works. It comes with 2 headphones and an apparatus that allows use in the car. She loves it. I am thinking of getting another for me.
Good - not great - little machine
by: norbnliz    On: 2007-03-13

We bought this primarily to entertain our kids on a long drive from Mass. to Florida. It did okay - played reliably and my 11-year-old was able to follow the directions to get all the straps and buckles in place and use the case as a display stand between the front seats. Its also come in handy for me in reviewing video clips - part of my work - so that I dont have to use my computer to play video AND take notes. A couple of negatives - it doesnt remember your settings, so you have to adjust aspect ratio and brightness every time you turn it on; the controls - especially the on/off switch - arent conveniently located or easy to use; the sound quality is pretty poor (we plugged into the car sound through the tape player) and the directions dont give a lot of detail. Otherwise - a good buy for the price.
Inexpensive, but very cheap!!
by: mommyofchristopher    On: 2007-03-11

This item was pretty inexpensive, less than $100, and everything was included. BUT, it is very cheap!!! Ive had it for a week, and the clip to the bag broke because it was only made out of cheap plastic. So, I can no longer use the strap to carry the bag. I called Audiovox to see if I could get another strap, and they said they no longer make that strap, wonder why? Could it be that it broke too easily? Than, today, my daughter was trying to put the head phone on her ear, and that broke in half. I couldnt believe how easily it broke, but then, it was made out of thin plastic, too. Luckily, it came with two headphones, so now, I have to guard it like a hawk to make sure it doesnt get damaged, too. If you get it, you need to be really careful with the parts. Oh, also, the dvd player makes a sound when it is on, a little noisy. Good luck!!

Great picture but not enough sound!
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-03-09

This was a good value except for the fact that the volume (both through the external speakers or the headphones) is just not loud enough. My 14 and 17 year old daughters both confirmed that this unit does not have the audio output it needs. Dont expect to get enough volume to use in a moving vehicle!
Audiovox D1708PK 7" Ultra Slim Line Portable DVD Player with Bonus Pack
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-03-09

The player works very well. However on the one I bought, the fast forward/fast reverse buttons are switched with the channel/track forward/reverse buttons. No big deal to me and this could be why they are selling this model so cheap. Easier to sell at a discount than fix this minor problem that, as I said, could be just my player. Other than that, for the money and with all that it comes with, its a nice little player. Nice quality case and head phones. I feel I got my moneys worth or bang for my buck and recomend it.
great dvd player!
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-03-08

I bought this dvd player primarily for my two young children, for those long car trips. Needless-to-say it has been used a lot more than just car rides, and works beautifully. Great sound and picture, handles bumps and little hands all over it. Comes with everything you need - I highly recommend this dvd player.
Enjoying
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-03-08

I bought those dvd players for my grandchildren.Parents were pleased. They had borrowed such a dvd when taking a trip. They are happy to have their own, with improvements. Theirs has more accesories than the one they borrowed. My grandchildren are really enjoying their dvd, at home and on a trip.
Poor customer service
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-02-27

My order was incomplete. I received no remote control with the order. Audiovox would not sent me the missing remote control because it was 40 days and not 30 days since I purchased the portable DVD player. They will make no adjustments after 30 days even if they do not sent the whole product. They would sell me a remote control for $21.75. I consider this the worst in customer service. Also if you call them you will wait on hold for 30 minutes.
very nice
by: awroyeen    On: 2007-02-19

Our little 18 months girl is very happy with it. Every thing that was promised, was there.Easy to use for her to watch her educational DVDs.
Awesome!
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-02-15

This product saved mine and my wifes sanity in the car with my 6-year old daughter and 9-year old son. They were completely quiet during our 8 total hours in the car in a recent trip. Everything was great!
Should of thought twice!
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-02-13

I bought this dvd player for my minivan thinking that it would be cool to have well i was right on that but wrong about the item itself. It is a perfect size had it behind the passenger seat so the person behind me could watch it which would be my 4 year ols kid He loves the movie cars so that is what he watches At first it was working find and know the movie freezes up and its not workable i havent had the item that long I was hoping to have it when we go on vacation to Florida in August! Know I have to see if i can find another one that at least will work a little longer! I do not recommend this to anyone exspecially if you want to use it for a child and going on long trips!!!!
Great Value!
by: himalima    On: 2007-02-11

BEST VALUE ON THE INTERNET! I searched around a lot and certainly did my homework. This DVD player is great! It has a nice picture, decent enough sound and comes with everything you could need all inside the included case! This is definitely worth the price! I would have paid more for it without a doubt - but its nice that I didnt have to!
What a disappointment!
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-02-08

I only got to use it once and then it would not play anything else. It would power on but it would read "No Disc". Looks like a great deal with all it has included with it but obviously looks are deceiving.

I was not only pleased by the arrival time of this item but very empressed with the quality & all the extras it came with. the head sets are real nice, the car plug in is also a great extra so you dont have to go out & buy all the necessities, they all come with it in a real nice case. thank you.
2 out of 4
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-01-22

We bought three of these for our childrens Christmas gifts. One made clicking noises as it played. Sent it back to Amazon and was sent another for replacement. The replacement played for 30 minutes and then went black. It has not worked again. Amazon will not replace an item twice. We are getting a refund and buying another item. The other two have not had any problems, but if only 2 out of 4 have worked it makes you wonder???? Good luck.
Good Value Excellent Resolution Lightweight Like Extras
by: ohdonnausa    On: 2007-01-21

I am very pleased with this product it is lightweight for me for business travel and the battery is long enough for most flights plus the car kit is very convenient. The resolution is quite good and the sound and features and the instructions clear that come with it and I like the bonus pack with the headphones and more very much. Best price around I have seen it for alot more and I got free shipping too it was here in no time. Highly recommend both the product - and Amazon service. Pleased.
Exceeded our expectations
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-01-17

We ordered the Audiovox D1708PK 7" as a Christmas gift for our two year old granddaughter. It became a gift for her parents! After a surgical procedure which required an out of town trip during a winter storm, the toddler cozied up in her car seat and watched Dora as her parents watched the road.

The Bonus Pack was more than you could expect. A great case that truly held all the accessories in a special zipped section and then attached to the back of the front seat to hold the player in place for safe watching. The two sets of ear phones are top quality, and are easily stored with the battery pack, car plug, and ac/dc plug.

Great quality and great service. Even though I ordered late, it arrived right on schedule during the busy holiday season.

Nice on a plane
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-01-15

The headphones help keep out screaming babies. The unit works just fine and the battery lasts over 2.5 hours. Its light enough to hold comfortably on your lsp if you dont want to use the meal tray on the seat.
PORTABLE DVD PLAYER..... NICE & COMPACT
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-01-13

THIS PLAYER IS EASY TO USE AND COMPACT.... I BOUGHT IT FOR MY SON..... THE ONLY THING HE SAID WAS DIFFERENT, BUT NOT BAD, WAS THE WAY THE BATTERY AND THE CHARGER WERE SITUATED..... WAS A LITTLE AWKWARD. BUT IT PLAYS WELL, HAS A GOOD PICTURE, AND THE SOUND IS FINE, ALSO.... A NICE LITTLE UNIT.
phenomenal dvd player.
by: savtab    On: 2007-01-12

The product comes with easy to follow directions, gives clear pictures, and the extras in the package come in very handy.
Good product with some challenges
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-01-12

This is a really nice product. The menus and the remote are a little challenging to figure out, but reading the instruction booklet helps a lot. We also found adjusting the display a challenge. The bonus pack is a great idea.
Excellent value for what you get
by: peggypawpaw    On: 2007-01-12

The screen has a few marks on it, but everything else works fine. The carrying case, various cables and straps to put it on the back of a car seat are great. Well worth the price I paid for it.
good for what I need

Good auto package..

Have used the DVD on one trip..worked well overall although the audio quality is marginal at best. The dual headphones is a bonus(grandkids);car mounting system permits most mounting options..
Definately worth the price
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-01-10

I think this works great for my daughter when we travel. She loves being able to watch her cartoons in the car. The best part is it came with everything I needed. The battery, car adapter, AC adapter, and mounting case were included. I would recommend this item.
Complete Package
by: kimwright11    On: 2007-01-10

Weve only had this player since Christmas, but weve used it a lot and so far I think its awesome!. Ive used the battery, car adaptor and AC adaptor. Everything works great and the screen is plenty large enough. I like that everything you need is included: headsets, adaptors, case and remote. At first I thought the remote was silly, but there are certain functions you can only access with the remote. My only complaint is that the volume does not go loud enough if there is a lot of background noise, like traveling in a car. I got around this by using the remote to put on subtitles, but otherwise the volume would not have been loud enough for me to catch all the dialogue.
Best Gift Of Chirstmas
by: ljguy    On: 2007-01-10

This Portable DVD player was the best gift my grandchildren received for Christmas... In their own words too!!! It is easy to operate (they are 5 and 7) picture quality is perfect, and the portable aspect of it is great for them. They watch it in their bedrooms, family room when Mom and Dad are watching something else, in the car.... They loved it!!! They feel like "a grown up" because they have their very own - real - electronic device!!!
Very please with this purchase.

It was shipped very quickly. I purchased it as a Christmas present and they love it!
Wonderful product

A bit costly, but the product meets expectations.
Good viewing quality, headphones useful for movies with low volume.
Have not tried out in a vehicle as yet, but at home it works perfectly.
Portable DVD Player
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-01-09

This is a great deal. The only problem is that the sound is not very loud in the car. The case was designed to go on the back of one seat so we had to "rig" it to fit in the space between the seats so all of our kids could see. Wish the volume was better. Other than that, we are very pleased and these things do not reflect on the seller. The seller was great and we recieved it less than a week after ordering. Would order from them again
Bad headphone design
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-01-09

We have only had this unit for a couple of weeks but it survived a 2 week road trip from Illinois to Florida with a toddler and a preschooler. The only issue is one of the headphones broke when my preschooler tried to fold it himself. A very minor problem. The player itself works great and has good picture quality. For a hundred bucks, this is a great deal.

I can not write a review on this product as product was never received, Due to poor incorrect shipping procedures. This was my 1st time in years using amazon, and my experiance has been very bad. To date the purchase price has still not been refunded to me, nor have I heard anything regarding it. I will not be using amazon again
Money better spent elsewhere
by: julesross16    On: 2007-01-07

First of all our player would freeze up a lot but the worst part is the sound is horrible. The headsets were included but even with the volume all the way up you cant hear. Unless there is absolute quiet around you at all times, pay a little extra and get something better.

ok for kids
by: hollywoodhip    On: 2006-12-17

i bought this and it worked the first time i turned it on, then the screen went grey and the DVD was no more. I contacted the company and the sent me another one! no questions asked! i was amazed...they didnt even ask for the other one back! I have the new one which is a xmas present for my 5 yr old and i havent tried it yet, so I hope it works.. it seems like an awesome item if it will work lol!
not worth it
by: tjwill1    On: 2006-11-30

I bought this DVD player about a year ago and after only light usage the player will not work the text message reads "no dvd in player". Audiovox wants 97.00 plus shipping to look at it. Dont waste your money on this player.
Region Free / Code Free
by: mondopostino    On: 2006-11-21

The Audiovox D1708 can play DVDs from other world regions as well, such as PAL format from Europe. Power supply is also universal. Instructions to make the player region free are at the bottom.

Weve been quite happy with this player. Its well made, easy to use, and has reasonably good picture and sound quality. My only complaint is that the wall supply cant charge a low battery and power the player at the same time. Overall though its a good deal. Our unit also plays copied DVDs without any problem (another reviewer said they had problems).

UPDATE:
Our player finally broke, but only after a hard drop to the floor. We replaced it with another brand costing more. The new player has better sound and more features, but I still think this Audiovox is a good deal for the money. If you want a good basic player this is it.

TO MAKE THE PLAYER REGION FREE

1. Turn on the player
2. Open up the dvd door
3. With the remote, push the setup button followed by the
>> button 3 times, then the numbers 9653
4. A service page will show up with the region code at the
bottom. Use the up down arrows to highlight the region
code and change it to 0.

WASTE OF MONEY!
by: Anonymous    On: 2006-11-12

This was the only thing I have purchased from Amazon that was really disappointing. I bought this for a road trip I was going to take with my children because I figured it would help pass the time. The DVD player worked only ONE time! ONE use! After that, the screen was just dead. I tried charging the battery, using the car charger, not even the wall adapter would get it to turn back on. I will never purchase a product made by audiovox again. Im glad I didnt shell out more than $125.00 for it. Amazon should really check the product it sells, especially electronics, to make sure they work before shipping the stuff out to their customers. Its disheartening to be expecting something good and getting crap in exchange for my good, hard-earned dollars!
Good for the price, watch it, only original dvds!!
by: Anonymous    On: 2006-11-10

Its worth the $100, image ok, sound ok, quite handy the Bonus Pack, with the case, headphones, etc. The batery lasts 2 hrs aprox, the only inconvenient is that you can only watch original dvds, and although its says somewhere in some review or some tecnical detail, I missed that information! But all in all its fine.

Good value for your money
by: murat193    On: 2006-11-07

It is what it claims to be. Nice screen that can be watched from all backseat passengers when placed between two front seats. However it would be nicer if the battery would be charged while watching a DVD. If you connect the car adapter to the battery you cannot play a DVD. While working on car power if you stop and/or restart the car the DVD stops (as the electicity supply to the unit is cut, so you have to manually find out where you were left. Believe me, kids do not like this a bit.)
A Great Purchase
by: Anonymous    On: 2006-11-04

I bought this DVD player as a birthday gift for my son in August, 2006 and
so far I am pleased with the performance. Our whole family has used it for traveling in the car and airplanes. We have listened to music, watched movies, and showed picture slide shows. The whole package is a great idea, especially the 2 sets of earphones. We hooked it up to our
satalite to use it as a small TV and also to play games. The price is
right and I received it in a timely manner.

Exactly what I wanted
by: Anonymous    On: 2006-11-03

Bought this a few months ago for my 3yr old son. He loves it. We have used it in the car as well as when he goes to meetings with me. Never had a single problem with it.
great for our need
by: tigermao    On: 2006-10-09

Got this is a gift -- intended for my daughter who will be travelling on an international flight. Product was great, easy to use, picture and audio were clear. It kept my daughter from getting bored during the flight. Bonus pack was great too... its like theyve thought of everything you need and included it in the package.
GREAT VALUE!
by: Anonymous    On: 2006-09-13

We bought this product for a long car trip and the kids loved it. Ive also used it and thought the sound and picture were wonderful. It was exactly what we were looking for and for a fantastic price! We are very happy.
product died after 6 months
by: kathy_archibald    On: 2006-09-01

I bought this DVD player for my son to use in the car. It worked fine, at first--sound wasnt great, but all in all--he was pretty happy with it. For no apparent reason, after 6 months the screen went very, very dark. I called the Audiovox customer service "hotline" and was told that I could get it repaired for a flat fee of 93$. So...beware--the quality of this product is suspect. I guess the old adage holds true...you get what you pay for.
Terrible customer service
by: Anonymous    On: 2006-08-28

I received the product quickly from Amazon, just in time for our long trip with my toddler. Unfortunately, the carrying strap for the bag was broken (the plastic clip cracked) so I called Audiovox customer service and asked them for a replacement. After being disconnected three times, transferred to their trade show department voicemail twice, and speaking to two different customer service representatives, Audiovox told me I had to pay for the replacement part, and the problem was Amazons, not theirs. Clearly a defective product issue is theirs under their warranty, but with dreadful customer service like that I decided to return the product. I cannot speak to the performance of the product, but if I could give less than one star I would just based on my experience with their customer service.
Never thought I'd say this...
by: Anonymous    On: 2006-08-15

I ordered the DVD player to entertain the kids on a cross country move. It worked. Thank goodness for the two sets of headphones. Now we have it hooked up to the TV and stereo at home for DVDs and CDs.
Lifesaver for plane rides
by: barksdale1227    On: 2006-08-15

I was shopping around for a portable DVD Player for about a month. It was a wedding gift for my husband (who hates to fly).
Besides the great price, the picture (LCD Screen) quality is awesome.
It made the four hour flight go by in no time.
great product at a great price.
The bonus pack was totally worth it. The portable DVD came with a nice carrying case, and TWO head sets of head phones, so we both got to enjoy the movies we brought on the flight.

great product
by: slotmama    On: 2006-08-09

instructions are easy to follow.clarity of the picture is really good. convinence of portability is really handy. three ways to use it is also handy. most other brands dont include all accesories for the same price.
Worked for a while, then stopped
by: auscfan    On: 2006-07-28

I purchased this for one of my relatives who was headed to France. The DVD player came out of the box fine, and we charged it according to the directions. Worked great for about 5 months. Then as the France trip approached, the DVD player would start, then play a quick trailer, then screen went white, then totally dark. No video. So in an effort to get it replaced, I used the product protection plan I bought from NEW Customer Service. What a joke! They told me I paid too much money to Amazon for the plan, based upon the purchase price, and that I would have to get Amazon to refund my money before they could process the replacement/repair. When I asked them to override the payment they said OK but have never heard from NEW again, and now I have Amazon trying to figure it out. But calls to customer service there and e-mails also have not worked. I keep getting e-mails from someone, obviously in a customer service center in Asia, that acknowledge my complaint but do nothing. Best to call Amazon and get a live person. In the meantime, I went out and paid full price for a Sony DVD player and the relative is happily traveling throughout France with a product that works and performs to our expectations. Rule 1, dont buy the Audiovox. Rule 2, definitely dont buy the product replacement plan from NEW. They really stuck me on this. If I could rate lower than 1 star I would.
Battery lasts less than 2 hours
by: Anonymous    On: 2006-07-25

Ive only had this dvd player for six months. The battery pack is not dependable. I have completely de-charged and recharged the battery. The most time I can get is 1 hour 43 minutes playing time. Not long enough to view most movies. I would not recommend this product.
Only lasted one trip for me, too
by: caymansilvas    On: 2006-07-23

Bought this because it looked like such a great deal. After reading bad reviews, I tested it before giving it to my daughter for her birthday. No problems. Used it for the first time on a flight. No problem. Changed planes, and it would not work on the second flight. Recharged battery, tried again, and the disc will not spin. Returning to Amazon because it is still within 30 day return time.
Only lasted 1 trip.
by: Anonymous    On: 2006-07-20

I am in the military and bought for our move from Mississippi to Virginia 2 years ago. It worked great for that trip. Soon after that the screen did not work, I used it for a while as a second dvd player because the output still worked, eventually that died too. It was never dropped or anything like that. I would not recommend purchasing.
More than 30 movies played, and no problems so far
by: corderillo    On: 2006-07-08

I took the risk of buying this product despite some bad reviews. So far, so good. I played a good amount of DVDs already (30+) and the machine works just fine. Good, wide display, decent sound... The bonus pack (case, earphones, cable) is not best quality, but I do not think you could ask for more for the price.
Audiovox portable DVD
by: riebe002    On: 2006-06-27

I had only a small problem with this machine and that was the battery did not hold a charge so it was not really portable. I got a replacement battery from Amazon, they were really helpful. Other then that I have enjoyed having the player for use outside the house.
what a joke
by: Anonymous    On: 2006-06-19

i purhased this item in 10/05 - my family and i used it on a trip to hawaii - it worked fine - we then again tried to use it in 04/06 - it did not work - audivox only has a 90 day warranty on it and wants to charge me a 94.00 flat fee to fix it - what a joke - the dvd player did not even last a year - i spent over 150 on it - dont purchase this please - it will not last
Don't Buy!
by: fhorowitz2    On: 2006-05-10

If you are attempting to purchase this item and it is being supplied by Beach Audio, DO NOT BUY IT! They received a shipment for the Mexican region and it will not play US DVDs. They do not know when they will get this problem resolved.

I bought this player in April 2006 for my daughter for her 11th birthday and she is very disappointed that it doesnt work at all. While Beach Audio is giving me a full refund, I still have to go to all the trouble of returning it and locating another one.
Didn't work very well for me
by: gthompson32    On: 2006-04-21

On the surface, this package looked like quite a deal with 2 sets of headphones, a car charger and bag, etc. However, I knew that most Audiovox gear isnt exactly high-end, but I took the chance. Only about a third of the DVDs we tried played in this player. All of my DVDs are regular, store-bought, quality DVDs that play fine in multiple other players. In the Audiovox, they didnt do a thing. I dont remember the exact indication on the screen, but the bottom line is that they didnt play - at all.

I returned the item for refund and will replace it some day with a more expensive, higher-quality player. I was pleased with the Amazon return process - this was my first return with them.

One more thing, we bought this for our child to use while travelling, as I suspect is often the case with buyers of portable DVD players. The problem is that the included headphones dont size down small enough for a toddlers head.
This sucks!
by: notsayin    On: 2006-04-11

I didnt really have any use for a portable dvd player but was excited when I got this for a gift. But now--after the frustration it has caused, I wish I never got it! It worked perfectly for the first 3 or so days after I opened it, but after that--nothing. Whenever I place any dvd or cd (even those that had worked fine previously), I keep getting a message that says "no disc". And no, it wasnt handled roughly at all, quite the opposite.

Take my advice--save your money, time and aggravation and look elsewhere for a dvd player. This one stinks to high heaven!
Doesn't last long
by: lesaff91    On: 2006-04-11

Purchased in december 05 and by april 06, its not playing dvds...and of course, its past warranty, they (audiovox) wants a flat charge of $94.00 to send it in to fix. So, I will just by another brand. Be careful.
Not worth it
by: Anonymous    On: 2006-03-20

I recently returned this item (for the second time). I both cases it worked for a short while, then failed. The price and features are appealling, but if you cant play a disk it aint worth much. The Amazon buyers blew it on this one.
Great for kids
by: cph13    On: 2006-03-09

The DVD player worked great on our trip to the UK (10 hour flight), the only disapointment is the short battery life (2.5 hours). I have not been able to find an additional battery for this item.
use on the road & at home

Not bad. Headphones arent so great. No problems as yet. Case is nice. Playback has been pretty good overall. I use it on my regular TV & subway rides.
DON'T BUY THIS!!!
by: Anonymous    On: 2006-01-30

I purchased this product as a Christmas present for my son. Imagine his delight to open his gift and find his own portable DVD player! Now imagine that same delight turning to disappointment when it did not work!!! I called Amazon and they were quite helpful. They sent a replacement immediately. My son was again delighted - and again disappointed. The replacement did not work either! My best advice to you is to do yourself a favor and buy another brand.
Great Traveling Tool
by: omoreno6    On: 2006-01-20

We took two airplanes and travel by car and did not have any problems with the DVD. Our kids wanted to get back on the airplane to watch the little TV.
I must have got a BAD one!
by: sixgytns    On: 2006-01-17

As the reveiws were mostly good, I bought this for our 10 year old daughter. The unit had problems right out of the box. It seemed to work fine as long as you place it on a flat surface and dont wiggle it too much.*hard to do in the car* In the car we had nothing but trouble. Unit wouldnt load, wouldnt recognize the discs or plain did nothing. They did manage to watch 1 movie during a 2 day, 14 hour car trip. I am disappionted in this unit and will just go back to Costco and buy the Mintec that they carry. We had no problems with that one other than it got stolen.
Works Great For Me
by: Anonymous    On: 2005-12-28

Ive had NO technical problems with this unit. Taken it on car trips and plan rides with no issues whatsoever.

Bought it so my two year old could watch movies on long car/plane rides. Does the job. I just put on a movie, give her the headphones, and shes satisfied.

It also has an input on it so I can hook my Xbox up and play. Had to do this a couple times.

I like how the case comes with mounting straps so you can install it between the two front seats of a car.

I like it and Id recommend it.
Was pleased with the purchase...

I had originally bought a Phillips portable DVD player for my 8 year old daughter for Christmas but came across this in one of the warehouse retailers... I returned the Phillips unit and case which was purchased separately and saved $40.00.

This is a quality bundle for the price and Im pleased with my purchase.
Didn't work at all
by: Anonymous    On: 2005-12-28

I ordered this unit on 11/29/05 for my daughter for Christmas. Received it the 1st week in Dec. Unfortunately, I left it in the box until Dec. 21st. I unpackaged it and wanted to make sure it worked before Christmas morning and guess what -- had power but would not read disk. Shipped it back the next day and went searching for a replacement. Purchased a Zenith at Best Buy. Works great so far! Lesson learned -- inspect product immediately after receiving!
Did not work
by: Anonymous    On: 2005-12-27

Christmas Morning --right out of the box--did not work. I finally reached the Audiovox customer service after two days and they were clueless. I highly recommend not buying this unit.
A Poorly Supported Flimsy Piece of Junk
by: Anonymous    On: 2005-12-21

I ordered this, like others, with trepidation, but figured if I got one that worked, it would be fine.

Mine worked, but it only played disks in B&W. I called Audiovox, which wasnt actually that hard to reach. But, the tech support person said that the menu function on the machine wasnt working, so I should just return it. (Thanks, thats just what I care to do, five days before Christmas.) Since it is shipped from J&R Electronics, I tried to call them to send it back. The information says you need an authorized return number from their Customer Service Desk before theyll accept the return, or refund you for it.

After 45 minutes of hold, busy signals, and dropped calls, I still havent gotten a return number. But, given the date and the time, Ill be buying a portable DVD player at a big box retailer where I can get someone to take it back if it doesnt work.

Amazon.com shouldnt partner with someone like J&R if they cannot support the items they sell, and if their customer service department is so crummy.

AN IMPORTANT UPDATE: Within two hours of my contacting Amazon, they had completely SOLVED this problem, standing by their A-to-Z guarantee and making everything right. THANK YOU, AMAZON!!!!!!!
Mine worked for 1 year.
by: Anonymous    On: 2005-12-11

We bought this last chirstmas for the kids to watch on road trips. Worked good for them but the screen quilty is not the best. It did sometimes snag up and we would have to start the whole thing over again. Love the case it came in and all the other stuff. I would say if you are going to buy this it is a crap shot, It may work good for a long time or it may not. we found out it would cost $90 to fix our. We are investing our money somewhere else this time.
Don't Buy It !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
by: Anonymous    On: 2005-12-03

Great package but a piece of junk because it doesnt work! All it does is say "Loading" -- forever. A real disappointment because all the accessories looked fine but I couldnt get unit to work DVD video. It did play audio disc, but only for a minute at a time, then it would stop. I should have listened to other reviewers comments. Audiovox tech says laser reader is probably damaged. Im going with a better make.
Product worked for only a few movies
by: jaguarvalleydrive    On: 2005-12-01

I was looking for a low cost alternative. I thought Audiovox was a good name and bought the product based on the name. It worked for about 4 videos and then it stopped working. Couldnt get it to work, no matter what we tried. We returned it to Amazon, and got all our money back, except for a $34.00 charge (not sure what for, but so be it). The package looks great, has all the things you want, a car kit, double headphones etc. It just doesnt work. There are other reviews that said the same thing. I thought I would find out for myself.
Wouldn't work after 4 months
by: Anonymous    On: 2005-11-29

My husband bought this DVD player in July 2005 mainly to occupy our 6 year old on the plane during vacation. We occasionally used it at home also. It worked OK until November 2005 when the DVD wouldnt spin. The screen just continued to display "Open". It only comes with a 90-day warranty so we were out of luck there. I was unsuccessful in finding a local shop that felt the cost to repair would be much lower than purchasing a new system. I would not recommend this system.
Works for me!
by: gyffes    On: 2005-11-29

I read the reviews and purchased with trepidation. I was sold on the price and the included car-kit.

Once home, I got out my sharpest knife for the five minute struggle with the packaging (Ft. Knox ain so well protected). Then I ran two complete movies through it to check its reliability. Worked fine.

Charged the battery, checked that. Worked fine (negative Ive not seen noted: battery cant charge while playing from the wall socket).

The thing played 5 hours straight in the car and frequently over Thanksgiving week/end. Played over the 4 hours home. No skips, stalls, "Loading" endlessly, etc.

Ive saved the receipt and mind boggling packaging, Just In Case, but currently can only express immense satisfaction. Roadtripsve never gone so smoothly (terrific silence only punctuated by terrific bouts of laughter -- ahh, Pixar..).

Should this fail me anytime soon, Ill be back to edit this post, but even then, the 20+ hours its given us so far may make it worth the $129 I paid at BJs.
Good buy!
by: Anonymous    On: 2005-11-03

I bought this model as a Christmas gift for my kids to use on our long drives to school and other fun outings. The picture quality is great. The screen did freeze a couple of times but that may have been caused by a bump in the road. The sound is good and the headphones are of good quality with no "sound seepage" I can drive in peace when the kids are using them. I recommend this product to all. And the price is a steal for everything in the package.
Sending it back... again
by: nola_mom-to-be    On: 2005-11-01

I sent back the first player (which did not play at all) and got a replacement player which isnt much better. Half the time I did not get past the "loading" screen. The other half of the time it would play for 5-10 minutes and then fatally freeze up. I liked the bonus pack but the player itself is flimsy and would never stand up to the abuse of travel with a 3-year old.
what a piece of crap
by: dbggy    On: 2005-10-29

Really, what a piece of crap. I just received this item, placed the DVD in the player, and watched it say "loading" for minutes. It never did play the movie. Tried a different DVD, same thing. I am currently on hold (and have been for a LONG time) with the Audiovox customer service line. What a hassle. Very disappointing. Also, there is nothing keeping little toddler hands from touching the lens inside, it is just right there in the open. Stupid. And so am I for getting this thing.
Important design flaw in the battery system
by: Anonymous    On: 2005-10-19

For starters, there was a problem with the battery on this unit when I received it. The indicator wouldnt stay solid, and would instead flash; I spoke to Audiovox, they said it was a problem with the charging system, and it would need to be returned. No big deal, defective units happen. And though it was a pain, my review isnt based on that.

The bigger issues were with the design of the product itself, along with its accessories. This is simply not a well-designed product.

The number one issue is with the design of the battery/adapter interface. On most portable DVD players, like most laptops, the battery connects to the unit, and the unit then has a place to plug in the adapter. On such units, the battery has to be connected to the unit to charge, but more importantly, the unit can seamlessly switch between battery and wall power. That is, if you have the unit plugged in with the battery attached, and the adapter loses power, you can continue watching your DVD using the battery. This is important on, for example, a train, where the outlet power will occasionally cut out. With this unit, however, the unit has a single power input plug, and the battery has both an input slot and a mini power cord. To watch the unit using the battery, you plug the batterys cord into the unit; to watch the unit using the battery, you plug the adapter cord into the unit; and to charge the battery, you plug the adapter cord into the battery. However, with this setup, the unit cant switch between the battery and the adapter; if you lose adapter power, the entire unit shuts down and must be restarted.

This is a minor issue, but is intensely frustrating nonetheless. What makes it more annoying is that this is the only unit I know of that is designed in such a way; both cheaper and more expensive units manage to integrate the battery and the unit into the same power system, so that a loss of power wont completely disrupt the operation of the unit.

Beyond that, the carrying case that comes with the unit are helpful if you plan to use it in a car, but fairly useless otherwise. Its very large, designed to hold both pairs of headphones and all the various cords that come with the unit. Its too large to carry around conveniently, and takes up a great deal of space in an overnight bag.

Overall, the defect in my individual unit notwithstanding, this model is merely okay. The battery design flaw strikes me as simply inexcusable, and the accessories are less than helpful. This unit is not inexpensive enough to justify its flaws; when I returned my unit to Amazon, I opted to purchase a different model rather than exchange it for the same model.

This unit is not inexpensive enough to justify its flaws; when I returned my unit to Amazon, I opted to purchase a different model rather than exchange it for the same model.
it doesn't work. I have to return it,

Love the package, love all it comes with... hate that it doesnt work. I load a DVD and it just says "loading" and does nothing. So if youre buying it for a gift, then check it out first if it works. Then I called customer support number on the paper work it came with and they just said they couldnt help me. I have to figure out how to get a new one!
Broke 2nd Day
by: coloradan    On: 2005-10-15

Bought this as a present for some elderly relatives. Soooo glad a took it out of the box to set it up for them. I can only imagine the frustration they would have felt if theyd received it, only to have it spend forever spinning, loading, but never getting to play. It worked fine the first night, but then got stuck 5 minutes into a video the second day. Id say you get what you pay for, but I would expect better than that for $158 bucks.
Ill go check out the real brands now.
very good for travel

Very handy on a long car trip. Kept our two-year-old entertained in the backseat! Its nice that it contains everything--battery pack, cigarette lighter plug, earphones, &c--so well probably take it on our next plane trip, too. Picture is decent, sound is fine, even without earphones, and it was nice to hear the movies from the front seat.
Great road-tripper!

We bought this DVD player for a summer vacation road-trip. We had absolutely no problems with it, so far. We had no problems with the volume, with or without the headphones and our sons were happy as could be (so were their parents).
Great portable player for the price

I bought this player for the car - the screen is a bit small, but still quite usable. A great deal for the price - it includes the headphones, car charger, AC power cord, and case that is used as a headrest mount. The picture is good, the unit easy to use.
Great for road trips with the kids!

I recently purchased this item to use in the car for long road trips with my 2 children, ages 2 and 5. My kids are great travelers, but they can get a little bored when they are stuck in the car for more than 3 hours. This DVD player was easy to mount, easy to operate, and kept them happy and quiet between Delaware and Staten Island. Considering the amount of driving we do as a family, this purchase was well worth the money.
Excelent product

Outstanding, very good quality and very reliable. The two headphones is a plus and it is very easy to use. I will lve to have a bigger battery.

I had been checking the adds from the big name chain stores, they didnt offer what I got when I purchased this Audiovox Slim Line Portable DVD player. Two (2) padded headphones, a remote control, car kit, all packed into the carrying case. I placed my order and received it about 4 days later. I immediately opened the box and had to try it out. The picture is sharp and it is very easy to operate. A great little devise for the price.
This dvd player does the trick

My wife and I wanted to find a portable DVD player for long trips to occupy our 2 1/2 year old daughter who loves to watch her DVDs. I researched different players online and this one was within our budget. Plus, the reviews were mostly favorable. I liked the fact that it was available with the bonus pack, and the setup in the vehicle was very easy. Some reviewers said the sound was not loud enough inside a vehicle. I dont know what vehicles these people were driving but inside our vehicle the sound was more than adequate. The viewing screen was easy to watch, and the buttons were easy to use. We still havent used all the features associated with the player but Im sure they wont be difficult to use. All in all, I would highly recommend this player for anyone, especially families.
Just Right
by: kaylenc    On: 2005-05-05

I just purchased this and am thrilled. It has all the things a parent could want ie: two headsets and jacks, decent picture, good sound, the car kit and the adapters. The ability to play music and movies, the audio/video inputs and outputs to play games or hook up your video camera for a mobile slideshow will come in very handy in countless situations. We tested it out at home and found the player to be sound and Im happy with the choice. I did notice the headphone volume doesnt go up very high. It was right where I would put it at max volume and not be blowing out the kids ears. I think that is a plus and not a minus. Ill have to test it with road noise...I guess it depends on your car as to how this will affect you. If it is a problem, there are headsets that have their own independent volume controls and each person could boost the volume to suit their needs.
Very disappointed

We purchased the D1708PK because we loved the fact that it was slim and that it included the case and the headphones, etc. Picture is clear and sound is ok unless youre using the headphones - then you cant hear anything. We had it on the highest number volume and we wound up turning it off in frustration. Called Amazon as soon as we returned from our trip and they very graciously gave us a $40 refund and advised us to contact Audiovox directly. Beware! Customer Service at Audiovox is the worst we ever experienced. We didnt even ask for our money back, all we wanted was to exchange it for another one of the same model and hope for the best. Well...because we didnt complain until after 90 days of purchase - they told us there was nothing they could do and that we were "stuck" with the dvd player. When we told them that we would no longer use Audiovox products in the future, their response was a curt, "Thats fine, have a nice day, goodbye." My advise is two-part. 1) Check everything out immediately. Because the volume worked ok, we assumed the headphones did also and never tried them. 2) Do NOT purchase products from Audiovox!
False advertising: this is NOT ultra slim
by: gadgester    On: 2005-04-08

This portable DVD player is about 1.5" in height, which in my book is not "ultra slim." Take a look at Sonys VAIO T series laptops; they are less than an inch at the thickest point, now *that* is ultra slim. This Audiovox is thick and bulky, and the 7" screen looks awefully small even in a car.
good enough for our toddler

I purchased this portable dvd player for a trip to Maui to prevent Elmo and Wiggles withdrawl by our 19 month old. The Panasonic portable dvd players clearly had better screens when viewed side by side at a local store. The Audiovox display is acceptable. With real bad screens, Ill watch some movie and keep thinking how bad the screen is. With the Audiovox Im able to enjoy the show.

Was the Panasonic $100-150 better? For frequent use by an adult, yes. I was actually pretty close to going for the Panasonic because the screen was so nice. I ended up going the cheap route for the following reasons:

1. No audio/video input jack for the Panasonic. I can use my Audiovox dvd player to play xbox.

2. The bonus pack that comes with the Audiovox is actually of decent quality and useful like the carrying case, ac adapter, car cigarette lighter adapter, a/v cords, and two comfy headsets. A little research showed that the car cigarette lighter adapter for the Panasonic was actually pretty expensive.

3. Im certain my son will knock this dvd player over one day when Im not looking. Ill feel better that it wasnt worth $100-150 more.

The Audiovox performed like a champ on the trip. My wife and I even watched a movie together with the two headsets while our son slept five feet away in his crib in our hotel room. Not sure how the quality will hold up over time but I feel good knowing that if goes kuput within a few weeks, Ill have an easier time working something out with Amazon.
