purchased these with the Radio Shack name. On sale, 20 down to 13. Nice size, quality case. Came with a travel bag. The store had another brand identical for 30.00. I like the style, i would pay 50 or 60 for speakers this nice that had some decent drivers. They work for my purpose, but sure wish they had the quality behind them that made you want to hook them up. I am thinking about after my use is done, take them apart. Find some decent headphones and rob the drivers. Install them. Then add a decent headphone amp. Will cost 60 to 80 to do it. But with this nice case I think it is a project worth doing. For my 13.00, I am enjoying them and using them every day at the moment. On: 2005-08-29
These are pretty low sound quality speakers, which is a shame because if they sounded good, it would make the case design a winner. I fully expected them not to be super-quality and was going to wait after seeing them to do a google search and read some reviews, but my shop-aholic addiction got the better of me and I paid $29.99 minus a $2 coupon at a WA sate drugstore chain called Bartells.
I am listening to the 4 disc "The Cure" B-sides album via Napster right now, and I am glad to get the sound off the tiny and tin-ny built-in speakers of my low end Toshiba M35X-S161 laptop.
You ought to read the horrible reviews from the Ziff magazines etc. if you are considering buying them. However, I saw a low $19.99 price for them on-line without rebates and at that price they might serve your purposes. On: 2005-08-28
