More Information

For the price     On: 2007-04-26

You cant really go wrong with this little fella! For the price what do you expect? I got mine in wal-greens and it has been perfect in my bedroom. Its nothing fancy, nothing special but it plays dvds and thats really all you wanted for right! Great fro travel too - i hook it up to the hotel tv when i travel and i can watch my movies of choice rather than spending the money on the Pay Per Veiw movies - It plays DVDs what more do you want!!!
do not buy this     On: 2007-03-17

i got one of these for $20 at walgreens. it is the worst piece of anything i have purchased ever. it does not play most dvds. the ones it does play tend to skip and freeze.
nice     On: 2007-02-16

My 10 year old sister loves it! Its compact, cheap, and it plays ok. I think its perfect for kids/teens though I wouldnt recommend it if youll use it for your home theater or something.
Not what I thought it was.     On: 2007-01-16

I ordered 3 of these DVD players (all from different sellers) thinking it was the "perfect" gift for my two neices and nephew for Christmas. When they showed up I realized they could only be plugged into a TV; there was no viewing screen to watch personal movies. I felt it was a little decieving how they were advertised as "Portable DVD players" but made no mention of the fact that they didnt come with a viewing screen. Unfortunately, I didnt realize this until it was too late to send them back and find something else for my neices and nephew at Christmas. Very frustrating.
Price is proportional to performance     On: 2007-01-10

This $30 DVD-player reminds you that price is often proportional to performance. It has its own intelligence to decide whether it will let you watch a DVD or not. As you place the DVD, it starts thinking, the DVD spins with a soft buzzing sound and the TV screen says Loading... with three dots proving that Coby is active. After a while Coby either puts the familiar FBI warning image or decides that the DVD is not worth watching and says Open or No Disc or some such thing.
If you are really determined then you get up from your sofa, press the cover, switch on/off few times (a method of fixing things popularized by Microsoft) and hope Coby will change its mind.
Good Night & Good Luck.
Portable or Not??     On: 2007-01-10

Although this was not the product I expected, I MUST say that the company was more the gracious in responding to my concerns. They heard what I had to say, and although they did not agree with my assessment, this company is one I would purchase from again.
It doesn't work     On: 2007-01-09

I ordered this DVD player in November. It is now January. It no longer works.
Dead in 4 months     On: 2006-11-24

I bought two of these things from F.Y.E and were both non-functional by 4 months. Complete waste of money.
all coby products     On: 2006-10-31

I do not own this coby product but have purchased coby in the past. I bought a coby tv dvd combo and a coby dvd recorder. Both items didnt last a year. The recorder didnt last a month. Coby is a generic brand that was put out to make money by selling cheaper than the name brands. There products are pretty much disposable. Use them for a little bit and have to throw them out. I will never again purchase anything from this company. You really do get what you pay for with electronics. Beware!!!
Cheap and hard to deal with putting in DVDs     On: 2006-09-30

Do not buy this product! Whatever you do, go with another DVD player. Its a real pain putting in a DVD. You need to make sure you have it clicked in right, or it will jam. I actually scratched a few DVDs not getting it all click into its round motorized holder.
Doesn't work     On: 2006-08-27

I agree with all the bad reviews of this player. My mum bought 2, none of them work. Wrong disc, makes noise, wont play, even store bought dvds. Very disappointing because we travellled with it for our vacation and I was looking forward to enjoying some movies. I wish I had brought the kids playstation instead!
Buyer Beware     On: 2006-08-25

I have bought three of these dvd players under the impression that they were a great buy. Since that I have come to find out that I was dead wrong. All three are no longer working. The warranty is still in effect, but Coby wants you to pay $25.00 for shipping and handling to replace it. Thats what I paid for the dvd player. Keep this in mind before you purchase one of these.
In total honesty...     On: 2006-08-17

As Im writing this review (sort of), I am hearing a skipping sound coming from the player.

First of all, I cant really complain since I got this DVD player for about a dollar [...]. I won it from a Flaming Finger arcade game, but now I wish I would have chosen another prize.

a.) It does make a lot of noise! Too much if you ask anyone.

b.) It doesnt read a DVD every once in a while, then it does for some f*cked up reason.

c.) Its not worth it, no matter what anyone says. Then again, who am I to judge since I basically got for free.

d.) If you ever win at Flaming Finger, dont go for this prize, go for either season 1 of The Simpsons, Family Guy, or American Dad. Or the wireless controller for the PS2, or the freaking digital voice recorder, but not this piece of [...]. The damn headphones might even be a better choice, or a PS2 video game for that matter.
Excellent Bang for your Buck     On: 2006-08-15

A real surprise how capable the DVD player is for under $40. The player worked as expected, remote control operated perfectly and even provided some excellent slow motion/freeze frame capability that, rivals higher-end models, was not expected. Ive only used it for about 10 hours so far but would highly recommend to anyone for a part-time portable DVD player.
Coby DVD-207 Compact DVD Player     On: 2006-07-13

The product is very good and so easy to cary around. I bought it to play PAL formated DVDs but I still cant play them. It may be me or the tapes because this is supposed to be a code free player. One way or the other I like it.
Good Price...very compact     On: 2006-07-05

If youre looking for an inexpensive compact dvd, this one is very good. The only negative is that it gets overheated very quickly so you might have to give it a break between dvds. Other than that it works very well and was a very good buy!
Good price if the player worked as good as one would think so.     On: 2006-06-28

I bought this DVD player for a friend of mine because the DVD player was very compact and selling at a great price, not to mention the player as stated claim it played DVDs from all regions. To her surprised the player didnt play DVDs from Germany or from the UK, or from any other country, but Region code 1 DVDs. Shortly after she played the DVDs in the player for some time, the DVD player kept skipping, making all sorts of loud noises. It sounded really terrible. I then contact the manufacturer about the problem, they told me on the phone to send the player back to them, and they will see what the problem is. Of course they expected me to pay for the postage to send it to them and for them to send it back after they had fixed it. It cost to much for the shipment, so I decided to get her a newer and better one that cost a few bucks more.
To all of you people who are seriously thinking about buying this DVD player better think again !! It is not worth your time, your money or the headaches !!!
Spend a few bucks more and you can get something even good with better quality for your money.
Compact DVD Player     On: 2006-06-27

This dvd player is super small and works great. The remote is a little chintzy..but you cant beat the price.
Get a warrenty     On: 2006-06-26

I got this DVD player, and it worked right off the bat. However, about a month after I bought it, it started having an issue with playing a DVD. The picture became pixelatted, and the audio was off-sync with the video.

However, it was only $25, and I invested $5 in getting the 1-year replacement plan for electronics. Man, am I glad I did - this DVD player doesnt look like its going to last the year.
A product that never works and then dies     On: 2006-06-13

Bought this one , was happy to get it for such a low price,
however when i recived it , the product hardly worked, made lot of physical sound while playing .
After three month of usage found that the product has stopped working.
The motor has stopped working, I guess the manufacturer knows that the product will hardly work for 90 days and hence gives only 90 days of limited guarantee
junk     On: 2006-06-11

Spend the extra $10 and get a decent quality one. This one functioned well for a couple weeks then broke. They cut corners on functionality too -- like the layout of the remote which is hard to use. Stick with a top brand.
Good on paper, but breaks easily     On: 2006-05-31

I bought this unit as a gift for my father because it is relatively simple to change its region code.

Unfortunately, even though it is very small and is packed with nice features such as Dolby Digital sound, it did not last six months.

Considering you can get a Philips or other name brand DVD player for little more, I think this is very expensive for what is delivers.
You get what u pay for     On: 2006-03-23

I have been using this for more than a month and i feel it depends on the individual to go for it or not .

Pros :
1. Cheap
2. Easy insallation
3. complete set

Cons :
1. Lil scratch and it wont play
2. Heats up real quick and has problems due to that at the end of movie as it is more than an hour .
3.very unreliable piece of dvd player will play when it like , someday it will play the same dvd and other day it will say not detected .

so if u just want a rough dvd player go for it or else wait for some good deals .BUT DEFENITLY WORTH OF THE MONEY. u can ge this as the second one or so .
Hey... it works     On: 2006-03-22

Got this to hook up to TVs in my gym. Its very light and pretty small, so you can place it pretty much anywhere, and for my modest DVD needs it works great. And for this price... heck, its worth it even as a disposable product...
it plays dvds...     On: 2006-03-20

and thats about it. if you want something more complicated i wouldnt buy "coby". But it works fine for what i wanted. I just wanted something cheap that actually worked. (My old dvd player was a piece).
This DVD player is not even worth the postage     On: 2006-03-19

Please take my advice. This product is inexpensive yes....but completely NOT WORTH IT.
coby dvd player     On: 2006-03-19

i love this product. its easy to pack and very light and works like a charm
Excellent     On: 2006-03-16

I am very happy with this product, when I bought it I never thought that it was so good. For that reason I will get other for give my best friends.
To watch a movie easily     On: 2006-03-15

So much easier than VCR. And discs are more compact. Great! Quality of picture and sound are fine.
Its great and compact     On: 2006-03-14

Its great and compact and perfect for personal use in bedrooms
Compact and Easy to Use     On: 2006-03-14

This DVD player is everything I need! Its only about the size of a PSOne player, fits on top of my TV. It plays MP3s, gives JPEG slideshows (with zoom), CD-R/W, and my favorite DVDs. The remote is sleek and user-friendly. The beauty of a full-size, full-retail DVD player, but smaller.
this is a good one     On: 2006-03-13

nice and cute, its working fine for now i am glad for that and lets hope it will be same for the future.
Review of Coby DVD-207 DVD Player     On: 2006-03-09

I regret buying it. It is difficult to manipulate. The remote control is almost useless.
not bad for the price     On: 2006-03-08

this product works well, however it gets really hot, so you need to elevate it to give it some breathing room. it is not bad for the price that you get. this model was purchased for my four year olds room.
PIECE OF JUNK DON'T WAIST YOUR MONEY!!!!!     On: 2006-03-07

I have had to have this replaced by Amazon twice and am giving up. Its a total piece of crap. Sound and visual dont match up, stops in the middle of each DVD, just an absolute total piece of junk. It isnt worth the money or hassle. I am returning it, and will spend $30 more to make sure I get something that works! BEWARE, THIS THING IS A PIECE OF JUNK.
Piece of CRAP     On: 2006-03-06

This is a piece of junk and everytime I try to play it, it says "wrong disc" and there is NOTHING wrong with my dvds...dont waste your money
Piece of Junk     On: 2006-03-04

I got this DVD Player couple of months ago. Everytime when i played the DVD, it gives Open, No Disc errors and makes some grinding noise.

I would advise not to buy this junk. I would rather spend $30 more and get a branded one.
Do not make same mistake that I made     On: 2006-02-28

I am rating single star because I cannt go less than that. This product deserves negative 300 star. This product is cheap and looks very cheap too. Doesnt play most of my media which are mostly dvd backups and vcds. But it advertaised to play pretty much everything. It gets worse when you start using it, complain about everything like no media, open, bad format etc. Its a total garbage, doesnt even worth trying even if its free.
Functionality & features outdoes the need for form & ease of use     On: 2006-02-25

This unit is portable, plays all burned media, any country code, both NTSC and PAL video, and most of all this damn thing was cheap for what you get. Note: I only paid ~$35 after shipping. The down side is the remote control is small with bubble buttons, the advance (similar to fast forward) typically has a small delay, and finally you have to occasionally reseat DVDRs for them to start. I found that DVDRs have to be placed in just right. Its not enough of a problem to overshadow the good things that this unit does.
Great product for the best price!     On: 2006-02-24

I was looking for a product like this, that offers all the functionality that I expected in a small and pretty look equipment.
coby review     On: 2006-02-23

This is a great product. I bought 20 of them for gifts; every one loved them no problems at all. They loved that it is small, light weight and compact that way they save on space. I recommend this product to anyone who is looking for an inexpensive price and good quality. Thank You
This DVD Player is a Waste of Money...No matter what amount!     On: 2006-02-03

I purchased this DVD player to hook into a small combo TV/VCR at our antique shop so we could relax and play DVDs during our down time. I had problems from the get go. I tried two brand new professional DVDs and kept getting the error Wrong Disc which means something is supposed to be wrong with your DVD. I re-read the instructions which advised turning the unit off and unplugging it for 30 minutes & trying again. I could spent my day doing that given the number of times this thing malfunctions. It skips both in audio and video and you can forget selecting the next screen....a total invitation for the unit to freak and freeze. The remote appears to work well for all the good it does because once you make a move with it the player freezes, and you have to re-start the entire movie. Forget starting where you left off and forget getting what you want by selecting scene selection. It simply freezes and doesnt respond. This was a total waste of $25, and the relaxation I was seeking has turned into a fiasco of fighting with an inferior and shoddy piece of electronics. BEWARE!!!!
"You get what you pay for!"     On: 2006-02-01

I will be returning this DVD player! It is cheap and doesnt work very well! Every movie Ive tried to play in it messes up! I wounld NOT recommend buying it!
Makes loud spinning sound     On: 2006-01-29

I have a Coby CD player which has served me well for several years, so ordered this since I figured I should try a 25 dollar DVD player. Unfortunately, it makes a humming sound while it is spinning which can be heard even during a movie. Someone who isnt bothered by small sounds may not notice.
good deal if it'd work     On: 2006-01-27

I received this DVD player as part of a promotion. It works great to read DVDs but the remote control doesnt work. Even universal remotes cant control it. Hence I can not navigate in the menu... so I am really glad I didi not pay for it but I would otherwise not recommend it.
It's All True: Piece of Junk     On: 2006-01-26

My little gem has done just about all of the things all the others have complained about. I will say that, at times, it will work flawlessly. At other times its faults are bearable. Some times you have to shut it down and start over. If you continue to use yours, elevate it to allow for air flow underneath and DO NOT LEAVE PLUGGED IN unattended because it does get very HOT, running or not.
Works fine     On: 2006-01-24

I bought this player about 2 months ago and so far it works fine for me. This player can play any US DVDs on both NTSC and PAL TVs, but wont normally play European DVDs. Nonetheless, picture and sound are acceptable and its great to hook up to any TV in the house. Worth the money.
does not keep its promises     On: 2006-01-18

it works fine but it does not play dvds that were bought in europe and have the regional code 2 on them. the descrption is VERY missleading, it says it plays pal and ntsc formats. so dont by it for that reason. it does not work!!
Not great, but it did the job     On: 2006-01-07

I bought one of these dirt cheap because it was PAL compatible. I watch a LOT of DVDs from the UK and Germany and with a hack (courtesy of videohelp.com) I made it region free. I took it on a cruise and was able to hook it up to the PAL system tv in our cabin and voila, we had all of our Christmas favorites.

Yeah...its temperamental and glitchy, but for what it cost and the fact that I wanted to travel with IT rather than my GOOD DVD player, I think it did the trick. It was VERY easy to pack and I wasnt even hassled by the TSA workers at the airport.

I gave it to our Filipino cabin steward at the end of the cruise!
DO NOT BUY     On: 2006-01-02

This DVD player Scrambles up the subtitles and sometimes the screen freezes either with my DVD-R Backups or The Original movie... it doesnt even play the original movie right!!!! Dont waste your money, dont buy just because of the price, spend a little more and get something that actually works!
Piece if junk     On: 2006-01-01

When I bought this player, I was impressed by the design and looks. After using it for less than a month, its started showing the disc reading issues. Even if a new DVD is put in the player, and the top is closed it says close top. Then its giving reading issues with almost all DVDs. It took me only a month to buy new DVD player. This is the last COBY product I will ever buy.
JUNK!     On: 2005-12-30

I used this thing for 2 hours and it is messing up the picture. You get what you pay for and this thing is a real POS. Last COBY product Ill ever buy. I am glad I found out now how horrible this thing is before I bought one of thier TVs. Maybe if it was made in the USA it would actually work or thier customer service would speak english!
Unlikely Coby DVD-207     On: 2005-12-19

I have purchaged this item 6 moths ago online, I am not sure wether this product is bad or as well my luck.

This product worked for 2 weeks very nice, and started giving problems. I have called J&R, where I bought this item for Technical assistance and they have asked me to contact COBY because J&R doesn;t provide technical support.

Where I did not find much time... after couple of weeks I contacted COBY Technical support by catching their Tech. support number on web.

Here is the fun part, they simply said, the product you have purchased over 90 day and you are out of warrenty, and they have asked me the another $30+ to replace this unit, which you can buy new less than that price online, NO MATTER WHETHER IT WORKS OR NOT.
Should have trusted prior reviews     On: 2005-12-02

I bought this item because I had a special space requirement that benefited from this unusual top load design. The unit would not select tracks, skipped over the menu screen, and made the aforementioned grinding noises. I took the same DVD-R and it played flawlessly on my one year old Sony DVD player. This is my first Amazon return despite many purchases. Not worth your time even for the $19.99 I paid with free shipping and I guess the manufacturer agrees. The in-warranty repair requires pre-paid shipping and $6 to cover return shipping so by the time you pay to ship the item, a warranty repair costs more than half the item cost.
sucks     On: 2005-11-30

i bought 15 of these dvds for my store i thought i could sale crazy becouse price was really good even if i buy from coby company there price its $27 shipped and here i only paid $20 shipped i was gonna order 200 pcs but good thing i didnt well make the story short i opened 1 for display picture was really bad and after 2 hours it was making really big noise anyway i sold 10 of them and 5 of them brought it back ..lolz so i had to give them cash refund other 5 migh come back soon since i have 30 days money back guarantee lolz i would say dont buy it its peice of junk..
Plays many DVDs but that is the best feature     On: 2005-11-29

The unit plays just about any dvd you put in there along with mp3s and cd-r media.

One of my big problems with this is that the search and skip buttons are the same (Hold it down to search and just press it to skip). Problem is, sometimes you want to search and it just skips to the next song or scene. It gets to be a pain after a while.

This unit also gets very hot when it is plugged in. It doesnt matter if you are using it or not. Recently, this player has started giving me the message that the door is open or that there is something wrong with the disc. This can usually be corrected by turning the unit off and on again but it still is annoying.

You get what u pay for.
COBY PLAYER     On: 2005-11-16

I purchased this player via the net and in my opinion its not worth it... but for the price what do you expect.... true to the fact it plays everything...but it skips and sticks alot....i even tried a brand new dvd out of the wrapping and it sticked....its not worth it.....
A POS - you get what you pay for     On: 2005-11-15

Got this one at Amazon and from the beginning, it is picky about the DVDs you put in. The picture is just unacceptable. Sure enough, within 2 months of time, it wont even play no more. What a piece of sh**. NEVER BUY COBY, biggest loser maker in the world.
It's cute and tiny, but that's about it     On: 2005-11-04

When I first purchased it, i thought it was a nice size for my room. But after having it for about a month, i began to realize what a piece of crap this dvd player is. Trying to watch a dvd on this thing is like playing Russian Roulette...it may work, it may not. And dont even think about watching two dvds in one night, and viewing a tv show on dvd is out of the question. Its a cute and tiny little dvd, but its a moody biotch, but you get what you pay for.
Functionable but Not Great     On: 2005-11-03

I purchased this product from Amazon.com. The first one I received had a serious defect (and wouldnt even turn on, in fact), so Amazon paid for me to send it back and get a new one. The 2nd one is small, but gets noisy and shows a fuzy picture when the player gets too hot. Basically, youre paying $30 for a cheap DVD player, so dont expect too much out of it. It functions--thats it.
Makes too much noise     On: 2005-10-30

All in all, the Coby DVD player works, but the noise is far more annoying than I thought it would be. I have a family, and sometimes I want to watch a DVD while other members of the family are asleep. So, I turn the volume down. Yet, when the volume of the TV is low, the loud humming noise of the DVD player becomes even more audible, and annoying. Im returning it.
Everything good if you are ok with no Fastforward button     On: 2005-10-20

Its beautiful to look and works well. But without a fastforward button its a blow. You just have to skip chapters....
I am more then happy with the working.
And for that price its worth it. ;))
DO NOT BUY THIS COBY DVD PLAYER!     On: 2005-10-11

We used it as a second dvd player and used it only a couple of time during the course of 9 months. On the third time, it wouldnt play the dvd! We did all manner of things to try to get it to work, but it wouldnt. Buyers beware.
Nice features - cheap material     On: 2005-10-03

This dvd would be just perfect if it had a better shell. It is built from those cheap Chinese plastic material, that breaks easily. But the features are great. For the price, its a excellent choice!
Coby DVD-207 Compact DVD Player     On: 2005-09-29

I give it a 5 . Because you really get alot for the money. It only took me a few minutes to install and I was up and running. It does what you want it to do at the right price.
Im looking forward for more products with this recipe.
more like zero stars     On: 2005-09-21

i hate this thing! i cant return it or coby wont replace it. when i put a dvd in, it reads the disk and then it will say crazy stuff like open or no disk. no other dvd player will do this, becuase this is a cheap piece of crap! i bought it because its so small, and the price was really low. well, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! this was a total waste of my money, i cant get it fixed and i cant sell it knowing what a piece of crap it is. i would like to break it into a million pieces to relieve my frustration with it.
It's all downhill from here...     On: 2005-09-21

This dvd player was great in the beginning. After about 1 month of use, its starting to freeze up during movies. Next time Im going to spend the extra money and get one thats worth keeping. I guess you get what you pay for right?
loved it     On: 2005-09-20

easy to use...easy to set up......great for my granddaughter to use and she is 5
Excellent     On: 2005-09-17

This is was great deal. Ontime delivery.. great looks, brand new. Thanks so much.
Worth the Money!!     On: 2005-09-15

This one is a real worth for the money. Its very sleek and weightless. But the remote is not that handy and no problems whatsoever so far.
Only plays a handful of DVDs     On: 2005-09-09

This player is really hit or miss. Some DVDs play perfectly fine, while others randomly skip or dont play at all.
Cheap MP3 player     On: 2005-09-09

I got this for free with my cell phone. I use it exclusively as a standalone mp3 player and Ive had no problems at all. You just need a cable that that joins the left and right sound output to the stereo cable of your speaker / headphones.
muy buen producto     On: 2005-09-07

He comprado como 10 de estos DVD, pues lo importo a mi pais para revenderlos y no e tenido ninguna queja de mis clientes. Dicen que son buenos en todo, bien pequeño y leen todo tipo de formato.
Don't Buy It.     On: 2005-09-04

I bought this player from Amazon.com. It was only $29 with free shipping. It was cheap. Look, you get what you pay for. The player only plays randomly. For the most part, every time I put a dvd in it and I only have 5 new dvds, it tells me that "wrong disc". Who knows what that means. The thing gets really, really hot too. I can see this thing overheating and exploding. Anyway - i just called Amazon and they are sending me a return label and have already shipped out a replacement for me, which seems to be a better dvd player, although I cant tell from its reviews...now Im nervous.

Dont buy this piece of junk unless you want to spend endless moments trying to get the dvds to load while your 5 year pulls on your pant leg and whines waiting for barney to begin...this one is a big no no.

versatile DVD     On: 2005-08-30

This is like one stop shopping. Everything you always wanted in DVD. Great for India.
Navnit
Coby DVD Player sucks     On: 2005-08-21

I bought this product a week back and amazing part is that I was not able to play even one DVD till now. The DVD player looks like a chinese made toy. The Functions are not appealing.Overall this player sucks.
GREAT     On: 2005-08-16

Easy to operate and very portable and great picture at a very reasonable price.
Small & Good     On: 2005-08-11

This is a great little player for the price. It does a lot and gets the job done. The down side.... on some DVD-RWs it may have a little problem but all in all its a VERY GOOD DEAL.
Want to Throw Money Away?     On: 2005-08-09

If you particularly delight in endless hours of frustrated fun attempting to watch a movie in halting four minute stints, then RUN - dont walk - to buy this little bugger! Youre in for a real treat with Cobys compact gem of electronic futility - I bought one, attracted by the cheap price and small size. I wasnt expecting it to last or be top quality, but I definitely was expecting to be able to watch my movies! Alas, expecting it to play DVDs was asking too much of this little DVD player; and it proceeded to die before I got through my first flick! When the picture began to pixilate and hesitate a bit, I of course concluded that I was attempting to play an overly grungy or scratched DVD, but after trying five different brand new DVDs, the fun began in earnest! It completely froze again and again (the manufacturers instructions recommend unplugging it for a half an hour and trying again - how convenient!), it skipped to random points of the movie, seemed to delight in utterly ignoring my attempts to use the chapter functions on all of my DVDs, and then, to my immense joy, the entire screen exploded, like Fourth of July fireworks, into delightful squares of unidentifiable pixilation. This little player was almost spectacular in its uselessness. Another Brady Bunch lesson learned: its always worthwhile to pay a bit more to get something that will actually function. A big boo-hiss to Coby for selling such a crap player. Whilst its true that one can procure one of these units with so little cash as to make them seem quite a bargain, I think a DVD player should be able to handle -and possibly even PLAY - a DVD. Id give this thing two thumbs so far down Im dragging my knuckles.
Good one     On: 2005-08-09

I liked it as it supports all the formats(dvd,cd,jpeg,etc...).
Moreover, the price is also very less....
A very nice miniature.... Good quality so far     On: 2005-08-09

I think overall a very good product.
Never buy this product from Amazon.com     On: 2005-07-30

I bought this DVD player from Amazon.com for $31 considering it to be a very good deal with free shipping. It is dual voltage (world compatible) etc etc. When I tried playing new DVDs it does not play smoothly. Also, it does not play DVD+-R at all. Same DVD plays very well on computer. I returned this product back to Amazon. To my surprise Amazon just refunded me $13 (whereas I paid $31). It kept more than half of my money....really bad return experience. If you want to try this cheap product (if love cheap stuff), get it from a physical shop where you could return with full refund. Good Luck with this product!!
Junk, Do not buy     On: 2005-07-30

The first one I received froze the screen after 10mins & left a scratch on the DVD. The replacement after all the additional shipping cost came without any packing & shows the movie for 40 mins without any problem & after that, it may work or may not. If it works, it stops every 3 mins. Lost atleast a few good DVDs which were working very well in other players.
Good stuff, but     On: 2005-07-28

as dvd player is excelent. But for cd you have to search the tune without seeing numbers. The sound is beautifull.
Worthless Piece of Crap     On: 2005-07-03

unfortunately, yes i happen to have one of these sucky dvd players. On some original dvd movies it plays flawlessly with minor errors. on some dvd backups it totally will not play. there is also some weird grinding noise inside when its reading the disc like its tearing it apart so beware when thinking about buying this piece of sh**, you have been warned. I guess its a loss but not a bad loss considering the price. Do yourself a favor and invest a little more on something that will last you a lot longer than this.
Does Not Even Deserve One Star!     On: 2005-07-03

Do yourself a favor and stay away from this PIECE OF JUNK! Spend a little more and buy a DVD player that will not ruin your DVD collection. It left terrble scretches on some of my favourite DVDs after only one viewing. Now I had to buy a $30 DVD repair kit to remedy the damage. You do the math!
nice price -- short life     On: 2005-05-31

i picked this baby up from my college bookstore a few months ago because it was small and cheap and we needed to replace our Cyberhome model which decided not to work anymore. it looks cute, and the picture quality is ok, however it no longer wants to play entire DVDs...it seems like the once the reader goes out to a certain point, the player will start skipping and then eventually give up. of course, this usually coincides with the dramatic climax of whatever movie is in there, so it becomes THAT MUCH more frustrating. sigh. also, what the other reviewer said about the player running hot is true! it has never melted anything of mine, but it does get unreasonably heated. if you can, i would recommend investing in something sturdier/from a bigger brand name.
Its a "Hot" buy as the player physically gets HOT     On: 2005-05-25

Please invest a little more money and buy a good branded player like Toshiba, Sanyo, etc. This Coby player gets really heated up after playing for just an hour. You cant even touch the bottom of the player as its that hot. I had to return the player due to this. My DVD that was playing also got damaged due to the heat. Also the player is not magnetically shielded and hence you see "pink" spots on your TV screen if you place the player near the TV
Player is Highly UNDERrated. COBY's customers support isn't.     On: 2005-05-03

I bought this DVD player because it has the ability to play all regions and convert NTSC-PAL and vice versa. It actually works quite well (and I am a tech-geek, so I dont like junk).

But for $30... you CANT go wrong with this baby. I bought a PAL DVD set from UK and I popped it into my player and 1 disc played fine, no flickers, nothing, it worked great!

PROBLEM: the 2nd Disc in the set wouldnt play and there was a "Wrong region" message, which is BS, because the player plays all region. I called Cobys customer support and they gave me a run around with " You need an R/F-Modulator" ... I didnt.

All I did was use a code I found online:

"With remote control and player stopped, press setup, vol+, vol-, vol+, vol-
Use arrow keys to select region 1-6 or 255 for all region. Numbers appear on TV screen. Press setup again to save and exit."

To change the region to 2 (Which was my DVDs region) and the DVD played just fine. So obviously, there are some format issues with this player, but once I fixed it, Im really really happy.

Where else can you get a PAL-NTSC converting DVD player for $30!??? Its quite the deal for the purpose of playing foreign DVDs.
Its a nice little player, tiny too, so it wont take up space anywhere. AND, it plays MP3s well also. For the price, you could plug it into your stereo and use it to play MP3s. So its a win win ... and for the price, if something went wrong in the future, just buy a new one.

I recommend this! Its a nice player for the price and its versitality!!!
A great deal for the price, if you get one that works.     On: 2005-04-12

I purchased a Coby DVD-207 locally from a retailer because of the awesome price. They had it with a $20 mail in rebate that made it a hard deal to pass up. I purchased one and quickly went back to my dorm room to set it up. While unpacking it from the cardboard I noted that the entire unit feels rather flimsy. I was easily able to get the wires plugged in, and I started it up. I put a normal, store purchased DVD in and turned the unit on. There were some grinding noises from within the unit and it took between 3-5 seconds before it started playback. During playback the audio and video would randomly skip, making the movie all but unwatchable. I put the DVD into my laptop and it played back without any issues. I tried several other DVDs and audio cds and found them all to have the same playback problem. I quickly called the store back and spoke to the manager, they said that several people had the same problem with this model and they would exchange it for in store credit. So, after only owning it for a few hours, it went back to the store. I am glad I dodged that bullet and got rid of it before it died and was not in the stores warranty. If you read the warranty information from Coby when you unpack the unit, you will realize that they dont have any interest in fixing or replacing a defective unit (My units warranty required that I pay for shipment both ways and also pay a fee for returning a defective unit...) By that point, to get a replacement for a broken unit, you end up paying more than you did in the first place. Do yourself a favor, spend a bit more money and get something that is higher quality, it will last longer and larger companies have more consumer friendly return policies.
Good for the price     On: 2005-03-12

I bought this DVD player thinking that I would give it as a gift to my friend. AS of March 8/9 2005, it still says pre-order but 5 minutes after a checked-out, its status is already shipping soon. I guess it was shipped on the same day because I received the item by March 11.

So, I opened the box and set-up it up.. its so small, I love it. The media that I tried was DVDr and the picture at the TV was ok but there would be some milisecond stop from time to time. It seemed that the DVD could not read smoothly the media on it. And the dvd makes a loud noise. You can hear the disc spinning inside it 8 feet away from it. If its not the DVD, it should be something else.

All in all I would not suggest the DVD to be your main DVD player. Its performance is mediocre. Ill keep mine however as a spare in case of DVD player emergency :-) . For 32 bucks, its worth keeping it. Ill try to find another another dvd player for my gift to my friend though.
