It gets the job done, good for airpland travel but thats about it! I dont have too much good to say about this product. The screen is so small only 2 people can watch it. The sound is horrible, couldnt hear it in the car traveling with the volume turned all the way up and its a little bulky for how small it is. Certainly not worth anything more than $40.00. Unfortunately we paid $60 for it when it was on sale but if I had to do all over again I would have invested more money into something larger and better. Take my advice and dont get this, find a different one. On: 2006-12-22
I have been dissapointed by TWO portable units so far... a Coby 3.5 inch I bought at Suncoast, the screen is horrible for subtitles and Im a HUGE anime and japanese music video buff (although the unit played burned DVDs, and MP3s on CDR and DVDR) and a 10 inch Nortech Media that was permanently stuck in 16:9 and wouldnt play MP3s (which is stupid, cuz I only played $99 for the Coby and it does everything the Nortech wont!)
So I am quite happy to finally see a portable that does MP3 discs, and has a relitively decent sized screen that isnt in crappy widescreen format. And for 80 some odd dollars? Thats a steal. Now the real test will be if it plays my burned DVDs, considering most standalone home DVD players will play burns (I watched a burned DVD of "Moonchild," the movie with Gackt and Hyde in it, on a friends older than the hills home DVD unit) it probably will. Im taking the Nortech back and Im getting this!
My idea for the perfect portable DVD player:
1) Hasta have a good size screen that can show subtitles and ISNT permanently stuck in 16:9 widescreen view ratio. (Sorry but this format is for THEATRICAL MOVIES, and i watch burns of TV SHOWS, Knight Rider just doesnt look right when everyones head is smushed downward. It also helps if that LCD screen has a shield to keep kids from making "trails" on it.
2) Should be able to display ID3 tags and scroll them. On alot of these DVD players they waste alot of screen space that could be used for more. My Rio Volt from 5 years ago does scrolling ID3 tags, and it was $50.
3) Hasta be able to play burned DVDs with .SRT subtitles. And since Nero does a pretty good job of authoring DVDs, that shouldnt be an issue. Divx support would also be cool, but I guess thats asking a bit much.
4) Treble and Bass adjustments! See, what Id like to see is an all in one travel sized unit that is a hybrid of MP3 player and DVD player. Most HOME dvd units have bass and treble settings, so why isnt this on portables? by: Anonymous On: 2006-10-22
I recieved my player in mid-april and i am very pleased with it, the reason i gave it four stars is becuase sometimes the screen blurs alot until you get it into the perfect position which is a little annoying! by: Anonymous On: 2006-10-04
I bought it on sale for 72$ and found it works great with the power-cord, but there was a problem with the battery being dead and not charging for more than a few minutes at a time. On: 2006-01-24
I just bought this dvd player to keep my child amused on an airplane ride. I was dismayed to find that the battery was completely dead and would not take a charge. I am in the process of returning it to Amazon.com. On: 2005-11-26
This is a nice little unit. I picked up 4 of them on sale, to give as gifts. Not the best, but for $49 each you cant beat it! For all those looking to go international with this little baby, I have the crack codes to make this unit regone free. As I travil all over the world I need this.
1)open door on DVD player, then press the right arow key 3 times.
2)enter the number code #9653
3)set unit for regone "0"
this will make it regone free.
Good luck. On: 2005-09-26
I am pleased with the product as expected (it was recommended by a friend), but most impressed with the whole Amazon process. I had to return the first product due to a defect, and received a replacement within a week without hassle..........I cant imagine buying anything else any other way....... On: 2005-09-13
I dont know what was wrong w/ the other reviewers machine, but let me assure you, this is NOT an inferior product. I got it on Clearance @ Target for $69.98. I have been looking for a long time for a good portable DVD player. I have used it and had NO problems with it whatsoever. Plus if anything does happen in the first 90 it is fully returnable to Target. Good Deal all around. Highly reccomended. On: 2005-04-21
Bought this player to amuse a 3 year old on a plane ride, worked the whole trip just fine, got home just stopped working. (gives the error of "wrong disk" when trying to play a DVD I know works fine) All of the disk play was supervised by me, so I know it was nothing the kid did...I then looked up the web site to send in for repairs found out it would cost almost $100 to fix! Thats almost the cost of the player itself. What a scam, sell an inferior product and expect the consumer to fork over repair costs or buy an new one, well not me. Go to a different brand!
