More Information

nice subwoofer     On: 2007-05-18

I am using this sub for about two years. I am pretty satisfied with it, nice quality of a sound, deep basses.
ok price no kick     On: 2007-05-17

I had a dual 6.5" polk audio that put it to shame
a lot of BANG for your bucks     On: 2007-05-08

I needed to replace our massive studio monitors with bookshelf speakers (my cats destroy speakers and they took up too much space). I purchased the top rated/award winning bookshelf speakers, but the sound was not as "Full" as we liked. This subwoofer faces downward, which for me was ideal. We were shocked at the strength of subwoofer and pleased by the look of it (you would think it was a table). For the $, you cant do any better. You need to relieze the speaker faces downward before purchasing this.
Great Subwoofer     On: 2007-04-25

I have used this subwoofer now for over a year. It is absolutely a great item!
Great so far !!     On: 2007-01-10

Cant beat this for the price... Easy hook-up, clean solid sound... Wish I had bought another...
Inexpensive and does a Great Job     On: 2006-01-17

This is a really decent Subwoofer that for $79.00 does a terrific job. -No, its not a $500 Polk; -No, its not a 15" Floor-Whomper. Yes, it makes your stereo, and HT equipment come alive and really fill the room with sound. I beleive that those who are reporting that the auto-turn-off feature is too aggressive on the OFF side, are using cheap amps. I have never had any such trouble, using a 10-year-old Onkyo rig, nor have I with my just-purchased Denon 885/2105.
Not for low volume use...     On: 2005-12-23

I use this to augment the small speakers attached
to my television. This subwoofer sounds very good
with clean bass at the moderate volume levels I
listen to. Unfortunately, it turns itself off at
lower volume levels, then I have to turn the TV
up louder to get it to come back on. I consider
this a design flaw, thus the two star rating.
Excellent Value!     On: 2005-12-10

Great value. Speedy delivery. Lots of features. You definitely want to connect this to the subwoofer output on your receiver so you can adjust it remotely. Connecting it inline forces you to go to the box to make adjustments and you may, like I do, have it concealed.
WOW!     On: 2005-12-06

I am no speaker pro; but upgrading my 15 yr old ohm walsh 2 speakers into 2+; to get more bass is A $650 upgrade. I would expect that $650 upgrade to provide Much Less bass than this $79 buy I recently made. Will it last...? Maybe I should have bought 2...? Using decent sub cables with eq boosted below 150; & I am more than impressed.
You could pay more...but you don't have to.     On: 2005-11-19

I bought two of these subs recently and want to share my initial thoughts. First off the bang for buck factor: 10 I got 2 of these delivered for $160...That is unreal. You can go out and spend a lot of money on better subs, but for the average home theater these will do the job. Advanced HT may require more $$$.
Second: Quality of build/parts. I was pleased to find that the woofer is not a paper cone. Some type of plastic/polymer. The Box is nice to look at, but could have been a little heavier/thicker. The amp is simple but effective. I really like the on/off switch, some amps dont come with this basic feature. The only thing I do not like is the fact that the box is ported, and the specs do not point this out. I was hoping for a sealed box. Overall a well built sub for what I paid.

Performance: Ok I had two Onkyo 8" 100watt subs in my system. I was not able to play the plane crash scene from Flight of the Phoenix because the subs could not keep up with the extended rumblings that this track produces. Enter the new subs and now I can hear that scene as intended. The bass is hellacious. I have not dialed in the subs for music and other movies yet, but I can tell they will be just fine. I only have to run them at 50% or less gain each to get more than enough bass out of them.

Bottom line: Good Deal, Good Build, Good Sound

What would have made it better? A remote, a little more power, heavier(sealed) box.

If you have a chance pick these up on the cheap, if you dont like it I am sure that you can sell them of for more than $79.

Edit: After screening a few movies and some music I am even more satisfied with these subs. They can get a little boomy if you turn the gain up too far, but two of them running at 50% really does the trick. Music is fun, Baby Ann is really the bass queen with these subs. THX intro takes on a whole new life. Cant wait to see War of the Worlds with these. Darlas tank tapping scene from Nemo really shakes things up. I have looked at the various models from Sony, JBL, Yahmaha and the like, none of them perform substantially better than these and often cost more than 3 times the price. If you believe there is a law of diminishing returns, and want to get a quality sub for a great price then take a chance and buy this one.

WAIT!!!!...READ MY REVEIW TOO!!     On: 2005-11-16

Well, I gotta say, it is one great feeling to buy something at a wonderful price and get something much higher quality than expected! I had two JBL 250 watt, $400.00 subs. One needed replacing, so I decided to take a big chance on this $80.00 deal. Of course, I really wasnt expecting anything close to what I had. SURPRISE!! This baby matches up perfectly with my remaining JBL sub. I have it hooked up with a RCA cable from the subwoofer output on my receiver. The adjustments were quick and easy. I already have a 2nd one ordered. What can I say, I like things to match. Which brings me to looks, and it does look good. One thing I would like to clear up about the warranty. It has been mentioned that it is a five year warranty, but you should know that only the speaker components are covered for those five years. The subwoofer amplifier and electronic components are only covered for one year. That seems to be the standard warranty for most subwoofer makes and models. I would highly recommend this sub.
Thanks and enjoy the bass,
Tom
Not worth it     On: 2005-11-16

I know you cant expect much for the price. The bass is so distorted I can barely stand it. Fortunately I bought it mainly for low level listening so it will probably be okay. I wouldnt waste the money again though.

$80 Delivered-DEAL     On: 2005-11-15

I got this unit to replace my JBL Sub-Woofer which after about 8 years "gave up the ghost". I liked the JBL but as I recall it was around $250. Trying to explain a Sub-Woofer to my wife is difficult enough "yes dear, you dont really so much hear it as feel it". I think this unit is best suited for "home theater". Im no audio expert and these days a tend to be a "movie" guy. A sub-woofer really enhances the ambience of the movie. I dont have a super system but it decent and works. So far the Advent seems great. Took me a bit to dial it in (mostly due to the fact I could not find my receiver remote and it has controls to do a bit finer adjustments) once found and I over came my natural urge to just turn everything ALL the way up the sound is very nice. I usually test my systems out with Apocalypse Now and Blade Runner and everything was copasetic. Okay so there are better Subs out there but for the Amazon Deal of $80 delivered to my door (on day 3) its very hard to beat. Im not sure how the "auto-off" feature works but I think after my JBL was just "on" those last 8 years mybe the Advent will last ten!
Can't beat this value in a quality Sub Woofer.     On: 2005-11-11

A very nice sounding powered SW for a bargain price ($80) purchased from Amazon. Quality construction, easy setup and a big complement to my 7.1 Theater system. If you are in the market, dont pass up this unit from Advent. John
Time may boost this buy to 5-stars     On: 2005-11-10

I bought this Advent ASW1200 (by Audiovox Corp.) from Amazon.com for $80 delivered. Got it in 2 days as i am in Ohio and it shipped from a warehouse in Kentucky. So far, it has been perfect. Build quality is good and the sound is just as good as my other $300 subwoofer (from JBL). Dont know why it was so cheap but it is a STEAL at $80 total.
Great buy for a miniscule price!     On: 2005-11-07

Now that I have had ample time to throughly test this product, I love it! It not only makes movies and music sound better, it also enhances TV sound. And no, I do not have an HDTV. I have a Pioneer 6.1 reciever and they go great together. I have the sound levels set at about two oclock, and I do not have to adjust the sound on the subwoofer no matter what Im playing. I would recommend this as a strong buy. Especially if you do not want to spend $300.00 for one speaker. My budget will not allow that. And I still have an excellent sound system. Thanks! Amazon and Nextpower for outstanding service. I paid $64.95, plus 20.00 shipping for this product. Im still pinching myself because I still cant believe it (laugh)

After having this sub for almost a month, and playing various types of DVDs, VHS and CDs, I am THRILLED!!!!!!!!!!!!! I still cant believe how wonderful it sounds. When I play the Lord of the Rings, The Return of the King, the whole room shakes during that giant elepant scene (laugh)! Since I live in a one bedroom apartment, I can only have one of these. Especially since I have a Jensen 10-inch sub in my bedroom. Too band this rating is for only 5 stars. I give this baby TEN STARS!!!!!!

you may get what you paid for     On: 2005-11-02

my new subwoofer lasted one hour exactly, and died. Cycling power on/off lets it play 20-30 min max, before it dies again.
Waiting for resolution from the vendor.
Quality bass for a bargain price!     On: 2005-10-27

First, let me say that this is not a Hsu or an SVS subwoofer, but it wasnt meant to compete with them either! What it does do is put them to shame in that itll do 90% of what those bad boys can do at a price point that is absolutely unbelievable! You will have to pay big bucks for that 10% premium. If youve got it - by all means spend it! I didnt. I did, however, get a sub that is musical, good looking (I mean its a black box:)and has both high and low inputs-not to mention auto on/off for $80.00 shipped to my door! I am absolutely happy with this purchase! Thank you Amazon!
No - it will not peel the paint off of your walls - I didnt want that! I wanted something that gave me my oboe, string bass, electric bass - all the tones below 80hz that are contained in music - it does this and very well I might add! Movies sound wonderful too.
If you havent figured out by now that I love this thing - what have you been reading???? Look - this is a true bargain - buy it! It is brand new and comes with a warranty that is fair! I could go on. If I had to nit pick - the only flaw here is that it is not super powerful - turning it up beyond the halfway mark will leave you with a distorted mess!!! But, my goodness, that is insanely loud! Anything before the halfway point on the volume is tight and musical. So go ahead by the SVS or Hsu if you need to peel the paint off of your walls - As for me, I will save hundreds of dollars and get musical bass that is plenty for me because I was willing to take a chance on this product. I may even buy one more for my office - it is that good!
Great sub     On: 2005-10-26

Just received and hooked up the ASW1200. Im using Definitive Technology front, center and surrounds which are acknowledged by most to be great speakers. I didnt think I needed a sub as the BP10 fronts make a lot of bass so I bought this basically as a cheap experiment to see if it made a difference. It does. I tested using Star Trek Generations DVD in the Dolby 5.1 mode. I usually listen at moderate sound levels so the BP10s never really boom. The ASW1200 added that low end presence at moderate sound levels that I had been missing. I also tested with a test CD and found the low end bass is much better than the advertised 30Hz. This sub has usable bass down to 20Hz. Granted at that level it is not as tight as a higher priced sub but for movies particularly I dont think it matters a whole lot. Anyway, I know there are better subs out there but this is at least a 70 or 80% solution for less than 5 or 10% of the cost of the 100% solutions. Can you spell v-a-l-u-e?
Truly subsonic, so powerful its scary     On: 2005-10-25

I found this sub at partsexpress.com for $100 roughly, no free shipping, I was about to get them till I found them here. I was so shocked at the price that I ordered 2 of them. I hotwired them to my current PC 7.1 surround system and turned them up, adjusting the bass through my 7.1 systems controller. These 2 replaced an 8" Aiwa 80W subwoofer, which I thought had a huge punch. The difference is absolutely amazing. I set the bass at 50hz crossover, and its no longer a buzz, its more like an earthquake shaking your house, a subsonic rumble. I have them in 2 corners of the room and its absolutely amazing. Couldnt be more worth the price. Im a fraid to bust them up louder than 50% of the way. One sub alone vibrated my keyboard around my desk. Orderd on Thursday, arrived the very next week on Monday. Nothing beats the price and performance of 2 of these put together. At first I was doubtful, but I am so impressed I cant begin to describe it. If youve got $160, I HIGHLY reccomend two of these. You will feel the bass pounding in your chest during every movie if you turn them up even half way, I guarantee it. At really high levels, there is a slight bit of distortion, but it is definitely outpowered by the sound of the bass. Placement of the subwoofers is absolutely critical, must be in the corner of a room so the bass resonates around the walls and amplifies the sound. A definite 5 stars for a very impressive dual subwoofer setup.
awesome 12" for the price     On: 2005-10-20

I bought 2 of these to power the bottom end in my DJ system. 2 12"s always beat 1! They are decent subwoofers and for a 12" woofer under $100 you cant beat it. Combined, they definitely put out enough bass to compliment the rest of my PA system. One thing to note is that they have around 10% THD @ 100 watts. They are rated at 100w RMS. Basically, the amplifier adds a whole bunch of distortion when amplifying the signal for the subs. Youd be able to tell if you put this system next to a higher quality subwoofer system, but other than that its mostly inaudible. Also, the subs seem to like the deep boomy bass, rather than punchy drum hits. With an integrated amplifier to power the subs, variable crossover (50-150 i believe), 0-180 phase switch, and both RCA and Speaker level inputs its great value for the money!
speaker     On: 2005-10-01

good speaker for the price.reciever recommends a 250 watt, but this one does the job.
Alot for very little     On: 2005-09-12

This subwoofer can put out some bass....I have a very big family room with wall to wall fuzzy carpet (I didnt pick it), long drapes, book cases....in other words: the room kills sound. This speaker can make the whole place shake. It has been a great addition to my DVD surround sound.

More seriously, it probably isnt the finest piece of equipment around, but it is alot of speaker for very little money. Plus free shipping, and it is hard to think of a downside.

Great value for the price     On: 2005-09-10

Got this subwoofer pretty fast even though I had paid with a money order. Besides that, the subwoofer sounds great just as long as I didnt turn the amplifier volume all the way up because then distortion would interfere and sound quality drops. I just keep it at the mid-level (half way on the rear knobs) and my music and movies sound great. Granted, there are better subwoofers out there but for this price, this subwoofer does the job. If you are looking to get your first subwoofer, but dont want to spend $300-$800 on a top of line model, this is the way to go. I hope this one lasts me a long time (5 years at least) before I decide to buy a superior model. It didnt come with a
subwoofer cable to connect to my receiver, but I found a good one
at a low price at Frys. So make sure you get the cable when you order this one. It seems you can also connect the subwoofer using
regular speaker wires, but I didnt bother doing that since I
wanted the subwoofer to receive pure subwoofer sound from the
receivers subwoofer output.
Advent subs rock !     On: 2005-09-05

Buy this bad boy ! Its a bargain for inder $100 ! Worth double the price !
Definitely worth the price     On: 2005-08-11

I dont consider myself an audiophile, but I recognize good sound when I hear it. This sub sounds way better than its price would indicate. I have it installed in my vacation home in Florida, with a pair of small JBLs as mains. Let me say that it way exceeded my expections of a $100 (now $80) sub. The room its in is fairly large, and it has no problem keeping up with the JBLs. No, it doesnt go down to 20hz, but my Velodyne VA1012 doesnt do that either, and it was almost four times the price. Its definitely superior to the cheapie subs you get with an all-in-one system. I would feel confident pairing it with most mass-market speakers.
you get what you pay for, folks...disregard the shills!
by: zenderman    On: 2005-08-10

UNLESS you order Internet-direct, that is.

In this price range youd be better off with the Dayton 10" subwoofer from partsexpressdotcom which is just under a hundred fifty shipped. Or better yet, if you want a REAL subwoofer plan to spend about four hundred for a Hsu STF-2 or SVS PBD-10, just google up their websites for details.

My coworker has one of these, and he gives me dirty looks every time he comes over and hears my SVS sub.

**** I love all these one-review-history blatantly SHILL reviewers! How much is Advent paying you, boys?
Lots of energy in this little monster     On: 2005-07-20

I took the savings offer, the free shipping and a discount for a new Amazon credit card and got this baby delivered to my door for next to nothing.
It rocks the house! My wife was a bit upset about the kitchen shaking and objects on the dinner table rattling, but it was all during output level setup and cutoff frequency tuning.
This baby, like any other sub, can be made to sound boomy and bad, but with proper setup it adds a very nice bottom to my CD and DVD sources that I had been missing before. This is my first sub, and the offer was unbeatable.
Very good workmanship and quality of materials, the inputs for both line-level and speaker connections are the same found on any high-end sub, as is the 0/180 phase switch. I use the auto-on feature and it works well.
I placed this sub in my basement home theater system on top of the concrete slab to get the full effect of the down-firing driver and it pumps air like a cannon. I can feel the air on my ankles ten feet away!
I was partial to the Advent brand since I bought the Smaller Advent loudspeakers for my college days stereo around 1977. These speakers are some of the best I ever owned, still in service and still delivering well-balanced, real and pleasing sound. I did replace the 8" woofers sometime in the late 80s and they still rock in one of my three home music systems. I have not been disappointed with this new Advent addition to my home theater system.
Definitely a "buy" recommend unless you want to spend upward of $400.

Great Deal     On: 2005-07-20

I just purchased this subwoofer to replace an Acoustic Research model that cost 4 times the price of this unit.
Positives.........
Delivered on time and in perfect condition.
Price.
5 year warranty parts and labor.
Negatives.........
Maybe not as smooth as some subwoofers. The sound, needless to say, does not match my Mirage system perfectly. But for 79.95/no shipping/no tax...I challenge you to find a better deal.
Unless you are a true audiophile you probably could not tell the difference between this and a 300.00 dollar model. And if you have good surround speakers like Mirage you almost could go without a sub. But for the price you cannot go wrong.
Once last thought......avoid BrandsMart. I had to go through numerous problems returning the Acoustic Research 2 months before the warranty expired as they did not want to fix the speaker being that it died so close to the 5 year warranty. After weeks in the shop I returned to pick up a SPEAKER!! No case or electronics. After another long delay my sub was ready and lasted a whole six months of limited usage before dying once again. 79.95 is a throw away if you get a few years of use!
Great Little Subwoofer     On: 2005-07-07

I was looking for a moderately priced, yet great sounding subwoofer for my office area. Well, this little baby sounds really great for the price range. It really adds a little "bottom" to the various music genres that I listen. You cant go wrong with this sub for this price range.
It rocks!!!!     On: 2005-04-19

This was the first subwoofer we have ever purchased, and we are most pleased. Easy hookup, easy tuning. We have a active toddler in our home so having a sub with down firing ports and no exposed speaker was a must. The price was right and free shipping was even better. Are DVD movies are a whole new experience now. We highly recommend this sub!!!
