I had one of these cameras and got it soaked fishing on a rainy day and ruined it. I liked the first one so since I had the docking station and memory cards already it was an easy decision at the price to buy another. It takes good pictures, is easy to operate, and downloads quick and easy. The only thing I can say I didnt care for is the time it takes to recycle to take another picture. Not terribly long but not rapid fire.

I didnt have the problems that most people had with bad pictures. For the most part, my pictures came out surprisingly good. The only times they didnt was in low light situations and thats the norm for digital cameras. My problem was an on going problem with the batteries and the recharging. I have always had the low battery sign when I first use the A340. Im sure its in the Camera itself because new batteries dont even work. I looked at the battery area and I see signs of corrosion, but I use this camera about 2 times a month and I check the batteries religiously. I dont know what the problem is but I have noticed that Im not the only one that has this problem. I have since bought a new Camera... Much better.

Good camera for taking eBay auction pics
Decent picture quality / decent battery life / but some gripes are the cradle ( if included ) stopped recharging the battery, you cant just mainline the power cord to the camera to recharge the battery, you have to use the cradle.
The included 16MB card is good for about 8 high res shots, you definitely need to upgrade the card to a 512MB or better, BUT YOU CAN STILL ONLY SHOOT 60 SECONDS OF VIDEO at a time no matter how big the card is. This was disappointing since we expected to be able to shoot continuous video until the card is full
The anti red eye is hardly that, youll still get red eyes when the camera triple flashes during a shot.
The menus are easy to figure out, the power switch is quite simple, just open the lens cap and lens zooms open.
Macro pics are decent, we use this camera to take close up shots for our eBay auctions and our sales have improved since.

I bought this camera after my old camera broke down. I really didnt know what I wanted with my new camera but, I did know I wanted a digital and I wanted to be able to view the pic on both T.V. and PC. So I got this one & Its a good camera. Hold alot of pic and pics come out good. After playin with it, I now know that I wish it also have editing features. so I can edit the pics without having to download the pic on the PC first. I would be able to edit pic from the camera and go get then printed. Other than that-this camera is very good.

I have used this camera for about 2 years, and have taken a lot of wonderful pictures with it, although I agree with the negative reviews (the quality is noticeably worse at 3X zoom, slow shutter speed, almost impossible to take a decent picture in dark places, etc).
However, I believe the BIGGEST problem this camera has (and it took my wife and I a while to figure out wtf was going on) is the fact that it destroys the XD card when one erases all the pictures on it! It happened to me on several occasions when I was abroad in some beautiful places, and had the cards full with pictures from previous trips; I erased all the pictures using the "ERASE ALL" option in the menu, and promptly received the "CARD ERROR" message after trying to take a new picture.
I am giving this camera 2 stars instead of 1 only because somehow I managed to get a lot of wonderful pictures (though I spent a lot of money on cards); I am currently shopping for a new camera, and Fuji is not on my list.

I found the fujifilm camera takes mediocre pictures. The flash always seemed too bright, which always made the subject too light and the background too dark. Outside was the only time I got a good picture and that was rare. Inside, without the flash, you get a blurry picture. I honestly got better pictures from a disposable camera than with this digital camera.
It mightve just been my luck, but I also lost 5 memory cards to this camera. Every once in awhile, Id turn my camera on and the screen would read "card error". All my pictures were erased and the card became useless.

I got this camera as a gift. At first I was really happy to finally have a digital camera. Then I found the power mechanism to be inconvenient. Even if I put it in a case it can open by itself, which drowns the batteries. Also, when taking pictures at night or a dimly lit room, the picture comes out looking like "someone on acid" I dont like it at all. Ive missed so many photo opportunities because of this fault. I am currently looking for a new camera with NIGHT vision being on the top of the list.
Overall, its ok. Battery life is fine and it takes decent pics.

I have had my camera for 1.5 years. Its proven to be very reliable. I breed and keep siamese fighting fish and I need a camera to be able to capture detail of the fish through aquarium glass which are 6cm. Its been very reliable concidering the rough and tumble treatment its had, including melting it slightly on a hallogen lightglobe!!!
The down side is there is a need to be patient and take multiple pictures before you end up with a good quality photo. It doesnt work well in the dark and doesnt handle motion pictures well.
However you definately get good value for basic photographs and realiability, its a great, handy little camera to have.

All the Fuji Finepix cameras are fantastic.
Ive had this one for over a year it takes better shots than my Nikon 90X. The SLRD Fujis are way behind on technology but their point and shoot are spot on.

- Taking pictures at nigh is very hard because the LCD don`t show anything (but use the viewfinder, like 35 mm camera) and the working flash range is about 3 meters.

I really love the camera, because is good poketsize and easy to use, just buy some memory 128 or 256 like me and you can get the camera everywere....i recomended for casual pictures....but not for profesional pictures (like calendar pictures or...)if you like it pay it ($800 Canon EOS)

I am used to the APS variety of point & shoots, and I miss the panoramic and zooming of the last one I had (Nikon). However the things zooming lens broke twice, so I decided to finally go digital.
I did not want to break the bank, and wanted to keep the price reasonable and still get a quality product. The whole outfit was under $215, so I think I did ok, but I am not 100% happy with the camera.
I agree with another reviewer about the plastic lens cover... What a pain to open & close repeatedly to get the camera going again! And it is flimsy, afraid Ill snap it off in a year or 2.
As far as pic quality, i think my aps did a better or comparable job. The zoom isnt nearly good enough, and the blurring from night and no flash and macro modes is annoying as heck... If youre not using a tripod, forget using these settings, which I think is riduculous.
On the other hand, for a beginner digital user, this camera is a good-enough point & shoot. "Good enough...". For another $100 or so, go for more zoom capability.
Other good points, charges quickly, Pictbridge no-PC printing. Other bad points, kind of bulky and heavy.

Pros: Great value, easy to use, takes great pictures indoors & out. Some reviewers seem disapointed they arent automatically getting "professional" results, but I have a 35mm rig with a half-dozen lenses for when I want to shoot seriously - The A340 excels for what it is, which is a great point-and-shoot digital camera that is small enough to keep in your bag or jacket pocket at all times. I used to have an A303 that I loved until a friend dropped it - money was tight so I went out to pick up a cheap $99 digital camera and an SD card to get me by, but for a few bucks more I found the A340 bundled with the dock and rechargable battery. The A340 takes great pictures as I expected, plus I am able to use the memory cards I already had from my last camera. At first I thought I would never use the dock (I already have plenty of rechargable batteries and a picture card reader), but the dock also allows you to use the A340 as a webcam!
Cons: The included software is not the most intuitive Ive ever used, save yourself some grief and pick up a compatible USB picture card reader so you can just drag and drop your pictures from the card - they are available at any decent electronics store for under $10. Im not real crazy about the xD picture cards - they work well and are nice and compact, but only Fuji and Olympus products use them - it would be nice if the camera used SD or MMC cards so I could also use them in other devices (although, luckily most of my friends happened to choose a Fuji digital camera also, so we can swap cards if we need to, which is nice). As another reviewer pointed out the xD cards are slightly more expensive, but you can still pick up a 256MB card for around $30 if you shop around. Based upon my previous experience with the A303, I wish the Fuji cameras were a bit more "ruggedized" - I suggest buying a good case or pouch to secure your camera!

My husband and I kept debating and debating about whether to purchase a digital camera. We have a 35mm Canon EOS Rebel that takes gorgeous pictures. But, we knew if we got a digital camera, wed end up using our wonderful camera a lot less. Fortunately, his dad killed our endless debate by purchasing this Fuji for us for Christmas.
I have to say, I like it a lot. There are some things that could be better, but for a 4 MP point-and-shoot, especially at this price, its great. Its small enough to fit in a coat pocket (definitely not true of our big Canon), and takes very clear pictures. We did upgrade the xD card immediately, for a lot more memory. The flash, as another reviewer mentioned, really works without washing out the scene - as you view the picture before snapping, it looks way too dark, but once its taken, it is wonderful.
The cons, though, are also there - though I dont know that they are any worse than any other digital camera. The amazon review mentions speed. I find that you do have to wait quite a while between photos if you use the flash - definitely longer than .62 seconds, anyway. This is kind of annoying - we have twin 2 year olds, and they dont stand still very long. And, this thing eats batteries. We dont have rechargeable ones, but will definitely be investing in those soon. In some ways, its nice that it takes AAs - you can certainly buy them quickly most anywhere, rather than having to go home and charge it up - but youd better have plenty around.
The 3X zoom just doesnt seem to be enough to me (probably spoiled by our digital camcorder, as well as the Canon), and it is very hard to manipulate quickly. The menus, as others have mentioned, are not terribly intuitive, and they could have added a couple of extra navigation buttons to make it more user-friendly.
However, overall, its a good little camera. I was set up on the computer with it within a half hour (we dont have the cradle) and the Fuji software is nice, too. Im sure using it a lot, which is a good sign!

I love this camera!
Mine was a Christmas present to me from my parents and my husband, even though I picked it out. There were several reasons that I chose this over the others I looked at...
1. The docking station. Buying this camera through amazon.com I was also able to get the docking station at the same time. The station came with all cables necessary to hook it to the computer as well as a pair of rechargeable batteries. One thing I consistently found upon looking at the reviews of all other digital cameras is that the batteries are depleted quickly. So far this has not been the case with my A340, it is always charged.
2. The optical zoom is great, I think its even better than on my 35mm camera. Its smooth and doesnt distort like others Ive seen. The digital zoom adds to it as well.
3. Quality is just great. Even when you turn down to 1M setting the photos are in a good, useable resolution and are just as clear as they are with the 4M or any in between.
4. This camera even takes great pictures in low light. My 35mm doesnt do that! The flash lights the photo well enough without whitewashing the scene.
5. Movie Mode - this mode is great. Of course, there is no audio, but what are you going to do? With higher quality, you can take up to 60 seconds at a time, but your typical memory card will let you take several videos. With the smaller quality you can take up to 240 seconds at the time. The only thing you have to worry about is shaking the camera.
6. Compact and lightweight. The size is just perfect, it is not heavy nor do I feel like I will break it just by holding it.
Overall, I am just really impressed with this camera!

Lets just start off by saying I really dont need a super powerful, highest-tech, really expensive camera. I got one because I needed one. Im not a photagrapher.
That being said, this is a great camera for what I use it for. I dont use it often, nor do I need the pictures to be perfect. Although the pictures arent crystal clear, and the battery life isnt great, I dont need them to be. Id much rather have this camera that isnt perfect instead of paying hundreds more for another one.
For people like me who arent looking for the best, this camera IS perfect.

Both the camera and the cradle come with a USB cable. The camera \\ cradle plug end of the cable looks the same, but they are not. I broke a small plastic tab within the female cradle plug trying to fit the male camera plug to it. Luckily I had not tried to use the cradle cable on the camera. Keep track!!

Great cam I guess... but my fujifilm 128mb xd is givin me a read error message..and i contacted fuji about this and i have gotten no answer!!!
But anywayz... zoom could be better.Night shot is a pain cuz of camera shake. BUt all in all the cam is damn good for the price and should seriously be looked at for snapshot enthusiasts

I got this camera as a gift from my mother. Im happy that I got a digital camera, but I wish it was a different camera. The FujiFilm A340 4MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom is easy to use, but
-it sucks the life out of batteries. I have only had it for a month and already changed the batteries three times. I didnt even use that much. I only used it a total of maybe four hours.
-It cant take spir of the moment pictures because it is so slow. I tried taking a picture of a friend that didnt like being photographed and it didnt come out.
-The quality of my photos are not very good. Ive taken about twenty pictures so far and half of them came out weird. I take better pictures with my camera phone.
-I dont like the fact that sound cannot be recorded in the movie mode. What is the point of a movie if doesnt have sound?
The only thing good about this camera is the fact it is easy to use. I wish my mom had bought me an canon exon, but I guess Ill just save up some money and buy it later.

Youre probably considering the Fuji A340 because you either want a good reliable point-and-shoot or simply because you want a really good deal. Ive owned several digital point-and-shoots and even digital cameras several times the price of the A340 so the enclosed points speak from a fairly varied experience of digital camera usage over a 4 year period.
The Good
1. The photos are generally good quality when taken outdoors. Compared to other point and shoot cameras at least. But youll instantly notice the difference in photo quality if you choose to buy (for example) a camera at twice this price. (I also own the 3 megapixel Canon PowerShot IS and love the vivid color in the photos there.)
2. If someone tells you 4 MP is not enough, ignore them unless you need to make prints larger than 11x15 (when did you make blow ups with a 35mm camera anyway???)
3. Battery life is decent. Please do invest in rechargeables. A worthy investment. Make sure you get a smart charger, not a dumb one (enough product information and review material on Amazon to help you learn more on this if you would like.)
4. Youll appreciate the 3x zoom though instantly crave for more. At this price, I am not complaining!
5. There is not much else out there in the market under one hundred and eighty dollars. So if this is a gift, youve got a good starter camera to give with the additional accessories to be bought later by the recipient.
The Bad
1. XD cards are at least 40% more expensive than compact flash cards. Negates the whole concept of getting a really good deal. (Though there is currently a free memory card offer on Amazon thats worth looking at.)
2. Start up time at 3.3 seconds (according to Fuji at least) is painfully slow. That means you are guaranteed to miss a good action shot since time from start to click is at least 6 seconds (unless the word `draw reminds you of the Wild Wild West and not your kindergarten days...) And remember, the frame-to-frame time of 0.62 seconds is only applicable when not using the flash. So all in all, not the best in case you want to take consecutive photos with a flash. Be prepared to wait several seconds between photos to allow the flash to charge fully.
3. If your really plan to take some video footage, youll regret, soon enough, the lack of audio. Be prepared to be disappointed. I suggest you strongly consider a camera with audio. You can use Windows Movie Maker to add audio in later but youll probably not find time to learn to use this efficiently enough.
4. its `just a little too bulky to put into your pant pocket and still be completely comfortable. Especially if you have a carrying case with the camera.
Conclusion
A great starter camera. You cant go wrong with this purchase if this is your first digital camera. Im being a little critical here because Id like to share my likes and dislikes of this purchase. But I guarantee you, at this price, or for a starter camera, youll be hard pressed to find anything better. (though the 3 MB Fuji FinePix A330 is a worthy contender for a starter camera.)

Buttons are a little stuff but after a few days of use everything falls into place nicely.
Only reason I dont give it 5 stars is becuase it lacks some more advanced features, but it has more than expected for a point and shoot :)
Overall good quality images, can take a beating, small size, and some nice features makes it a very nice camera.

This camera is a great first ditigal camera for anyone. It takes great pictures. Is easy to use. Very affordable. Sends pictures easily to your e-mail addresses. Has a built in lens cover. Can be used with 2 AA batteries. And is compatible with most ditigal printers.

I just need a camera to take pics of my family and this cam fits the bill perfectly. It is very easy to use and prints well. at just 2mp the pictures came out very much like normal photo prints using household HP printer and photo paper. Good for making the occasional prints, no need to run to the photo developing place. Sending the pics via email is also piece of cake using the FinePix viewer software. no need to fiddle through your files to attache the pics.
The downside is that the buttons are not set up like most digital camera so it take awhile to get used to and I wish they supplied a higher mb picture card. the supplied 16 mb only takes 25 odd pics at medium res so I need to purchase a higher mb xD card.
However, if youre just looking for a simple, no frills, family digital camera then I say this camera is just perfect.

I am sure glad I bought this camera. It could include an AC adapter and maybe sound in movies, but at this price I aint complaining. The reason I gave this camera five stars is pertly to help out with the overall rating. Though a great camera, I might give it only four stars or 4.5, for not being a top of the line camera, but excellent value. I definately reccomend considering this camera when making a buying decision.

I have to say that Im very unhappy with this purchase. Not only are the pictures not clear but the zoom is awful. I only wished I had used it prior to the 30 day return policy or else I would have returned it immediately. Im very sorry I ever bought this camera. I purchased this camera this afternoon. I didnt buy it from amazon. I purchased it at a PC Richards. I knew the salesman and he gave me a good deal. Anyway, I was going to get the 3 pixal one, but that was out of stock. The salesman sold me this one at the same price, which was $200. I was deciding between this one and a canon, and he recommended this one. I have had it for an hour, and I love it. It is so easy to use. I just skimmed throught the instructions. I was able to navigate the menus with no problem. I wanted to point that out, since a lot of the compliants are that it is not that easy to use. I have about ten pictures that I took so far. I used my new puppy as my test subject. They came out great. It is easy to pick out the pictures that you want, and the ones that you want to delete. I cant wait to print some up. I just needed one with the basics. This has that and more. I love it, and I am glad I purchased this one. It is highly recommended. I only gave it four stars, because I wish the memory card held more. Dont have second thoughts on this. It is definitly a good price, and compact.

Im suprised there are a few reviews that arent so good, we love this little camera! The pictures are clear,sharp,nice colors, and theres some really great features for being such an affordable price. This is a really good family camera. Also perfect for teens.

PS. cradle is optional. USB connects to your computer to upload. It would be cheaper to get a $15 recharger & batteries.

I have to agree with erosomniac, from Seattle, WA. The FujiFilm A340 is a waste of money. I previously had a FujiFilm 2600 and it took far superior pictures than the A340. I contacted Fuji (sent them pictures from the A340 and they sent me back pictures with the same problems) and that was also a waste of time. Outdoor pictures are either too bright or too dark, really hard to get a good clear picture.

Until this camera, Fuji was consistently my favorite camera brand within the compact category (I am not a professional photographer, as I imagine you arent if youre looking at this camera in the first place). But well get to all that in a second.Pros:
-Extraordinary price for a 4 megapixel compact camera with 3x optical zoom.
-Scene modes make it easy for newbies to get the proper settings for optimal pictures without knowing what the heck white balance and shutter speed are.
-Sliding lens cover physically protects your lens against scratches from other objects in your pocket, like keys
-A wide variety of manual options for those who are interested in learning about how to use them. Cons (and there are many):
-Image quality is SIGNIFICANTLY worse than other Fuji cameras. I was so disappointed when I uploaded those first few shots! Fuji, why did you scrap your good sensor and replace it with this piece of junk?
-Menus are extraordinarly tedious to navigate. Fuji should have mapped more controls to seperate buttons instead of grouping almost all of them together in one big menu.
-Zoom/navigation button is difficult to manipulate, especially with only one hand on the camera.
-Amazons official review says that speed is a priority with this camera, but the start-up time is almost 3 seconds on average (as compared to the Exilim lines 0.5 to 1.0 second times) and the shutter speed is average (as compared to the Exilim lines .05 second shutter speed). -The sliding lens cover does not protect against dust at all, and feels very flimsy (made of plastic). Constantly feels like its going to break off. Moral of the story: you get what you pay for. Invest in a 3 megapixel camera in the same price range, or bite the bullet and pay more money for a better 4.

I helped my son purchase a camera yesterday, having had two Fuji cameras that were both great, I was severely disappointed in this camera. The pictures are just okay, the shutter speed is slow. There is no way to change the ISO, there fore it constantly tells you to use the flash. If I was to recomment a camera try to find the A310, really easy to use, good quaility pictures, true it is only a 3.1 with a recordable 6.2 Mega pixals, so you have more options using it.
