I bought this as a gift, and my wife loves it. Nice picture, good sound, and no problems so far. (She is pretty hard to please, and I hope she doesnt read this) On: 2007-05-22
I now need a new battery for this player and Ive found it near impossible to find a battery and when I did find one, it cost $80.00 plus shipping. Thats a disappointment. On: 2007-03-11
Cant get a break from the constant talking and laughing and questions of a reunion or get-together? Grab the 8" Portable LCD DVD Player with Car Kit and go out to the park. Youre greeted with the quiet and soft sounds of the park. And, the only think to interupt this peacefulness? The sound of "Hang Em High" without any interuptions. Ah-hh what a way to spend Sunday afternoons. On: 2007-02-13
The picture on this DVD player is not great - its okay. The other problem we have is that the plugs do not have a good connection with the unit. My daughter was watching a movie one day in the car and there was a sudden LOUD squealing noise over the headphones. We never figured out what happened, however I suspect it could be the poor connection. On: 2007-02-01
I was a little concerned when I read the negative reviews AFTER I had already decided and ordered this player. Ive been using almost daily, playing movies,DVD concerts,Cd-R with photos of children and grandchildren. The multifunctions are great and with the headsets on, the concerts are superb, especially when you set the audio to digital surround. Ill keep my fingers crossed, but for the money with everything included I am very well satisfied. Ron in Pa. On: 2007-01-21
This item was purchased as a gift for my girlfriend. She has been very pleased with this player, and especially likes the slightly larger 8" screen. Most players have a 7" screen, and this one is easier to watch. The controls are very easy to use, and it came with some very useful accessories (travel case, headphones, and car charger). Definitely worth the price. On: 2006-11-10
Amazing product . The Grandkids love to watch the DVD player while we go on our trips. Peace and quiet for Grandpop, while the kids enjoy the movies !! On: 2006-11-03
This car kit works very well. The screen is a bit larger than other DVD players of similar type. The only down side is that the battery only charges for about 2 hours (shorter than many movies). So, if you are going to use this in the car, you need to be able to charge it. On: 2006-11-02
We bought this portable DVD player for a road trip with our two sons ages 11 and 9. While we dont generally encourage watching a lot of movies, this was the best purchase we had made in a long time. It was a long trip, with many traffic and weather delays, so this product certainly helped keep our boys busy. It has two headphones so noone was complaining that they couldnt hear. It kept its charge the entire trip-over eight hours- and comes with an easy adapter for recharging in the car or in a hotel. My husband and I also used it when the boys were asleep. The headphones let us watch without disturbing their sleep. I would certainly recommend this to anyone. On: 2006-10-17
We bought this unit from Sams Club right before a trip to Disney World. (8 hours in the car with a toddler--eek!) However, it was/is perfect! We still use it for trips around town when were in massive traffic or our son is being really fussy. The case that keeps the dvd player on the back of the seat needs a little work, but we figured out a way to make it work for us. Also, the remote doesnt work well, but we dont really need to use it as a DVD usually lasts long enough between stops. On: 2006-10-08
I bought this item for my son for x-mas.We are lucky if we got to use it 4 times before it stopped working.Products this bad should not be allowed to be sold. On: 2006-07-20
I recieved this DVD player as a gift for Christmas from my wife. I used it 5 times- done - screen says no disk with DVD in machine. My wife got the ex-warranty through Amazon.com . NO GOOD UNTIL 1 YEAR AFTER DATE OF DELIVERY> THEY HAVE AUDIOVOX as HAVING A 1 YEAR WARRANTY -- AUDIOVOX HAS A 90 day WARRANTY on this DVD. I ASKED for Help ..... NO response. I was told to wait until DEC. 2006 and then reply.. I suppose Ill recieve the same at that time to--- NO RESPONSE -- BOTTOM LINE DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF *%**^%^&&^!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bought it to use on an airplane. Doesnt have enough volume. On: 2006-07-05
The unit might not seem expensive and some of the audivox portable DVD players come with nice featuressuch as multi-system or as a package with car mount and ear phones. Its a lure! Mine stopped working within a month and after 3-4 uses. It stopped spinning the discs. Even though covered by the 90 days waranty...I had to ship the unit to Auduxox, at my own cost, and by the time I got it back to test the repaired one, it was past the 90 days. Sleek! Plus the battery is hooked up on the outside of the unit, with very unsecure hooks. At the slightest touch, it gets disconnected.
Totally disappointed in the unit and the company. It came out very expensive $200 for 4 movie viewings. On: 2006-07-04
I spent $400 16 months ago on two very similar portable Audiovox DVD players for my kids, for long roadtrips. They were handled with care, never abused or exposed to severe temperatures. I think we got about 6 trips out of them, then the screens went blank while in use and both units died within 24 hours of each other. Circuit City informed me the product is no longer on their shelves and referred me to Audiovox, who will do nothing since the product is now out of warranty. Extended warranties are useless on this kind of product -- who can wait 6-8 weeks for repairs? Parents, find another brand! On: 2006-06-27
I bought this for my 2 yr old for a car trip from VA to WI and it worked great on the trip. Once in WI however it started to freeze up every once in a while. Either the screen would just go dark and I had to turn it off and back on to get it to do anything, or would say it was loading the disc and just not do anything else after that. Like it didnt recognize the disc even though I played the disc in 3 other players so I know the disc worked. That wasnt the worst.
The worst is the companys warranty and customor service. One month after buying this I tried opening the lid and I couldnt get it to open. In the process of trying to figure out what was wrong, why the lid wouldnt open, one of the hinges broke. Then I realized that one of the small metal spring pins had come out from under the lid and was preventing me from opening it. I called the 800 number to find out what I could do, since the player wont work without the lid closed and they said I could pay to send the unit in and pay the flat fee of around $100 dollars to have it fixed. That is half of what I paid for the whole package...not worth it. The hinge being broken is considered "cosmetic" and not covered under warranty even though the player wont work now unless I rig it like tape down the button that indicates the lid is closed. Something like that should be covered under warranty, Ive only owned the thing for one month! I would take it back to the store I bought it at except the store in VA and Im in WI for a couple months. I guess Im glad I found this out about the company; they lost my business.
I would have only given this one star because of the company but the player actually worked quite nice for the month that it did work. On: 2006-06-21
After owining many portable dvd players i feel this is not a very good one. It lacks some key features that other ones like it have, such as games ect.. A better model would be the d1812pkg just a bit newer, and a lot nicer On: 2006-05-30
This compact, portable DVD player is very nice. It plays any region DVD and it plays any kind of DATA Disc. I highly reccomend this portable DVD player for any of your needs! On: 2006-03-23
Works well if plugged in, but the battery pack only worked for one two hour flight. Havent been able to charge it since then. Unfortunately we would like it for travel, but fortunately we received it as a gift. I am now patiently waiting for it to blow up based on other reviews. If I could find a replacement battery pack I might buy it.

This is a great product! My family and I took a long flight overseas to the Philippines and I knew my 2 year old would be a nightmare on the plane. With this DVD player, I kept him busy watching "Nemo" over and over. On: 2006-03-17
I very carefully looked for a product with a minimum 8-inch screen. The price on this was great, and the screen is awesome! DVDs on this look better than on my television. I have had no problems yet, but bought the warranty just in case. The speaker quality sucks, but I kind of expected that for the price. It sounds fine with the included headphones. And being able to buy EVERYTHING you need in one fell swoop is so convenient. On: 2006-02-24
I am very happy with the product and with the speed in which I received it. I have had no problems with the product and would by this product again and recommend it to friends. On: 2006-02-23
I ordered this for my wife for Christmas. The first one came with a purplish streak about a quarter of the way down the screen. We immediately sent it back for a replacement. The replacement worked for about 4 movies and then would not work. The device began making a squealing noise and the screen would display only static. After requesting another replacement, Amazon refused to replace it due to numerous problems and would only agree to a refund. On: 2006-02-23
Do yourself a favor and look for another brand of player.I am also one of the people who bought this dvd player from Sams Club a little under a year ago. The unit worked fine for about 5 months with a few hours use every couple of days. Then after that I could never get this unit to display ANY menus on the dvd I put in it, and later all Id get is a "Loading Disc" message and nothing else. After that each time Id put in a dvd I would get a "No Disc" message. I returned the unit to Sams. They refunded my monet. I purchased a Mustek 7" Portable DVD Player in its place and already it behaves a LOT better! On: 2006-01-31
I purchased my Audiovox DVD player for my 50th birthday. I enjoy the 8" screen and headphones in the car. It makes trips in the car more pleasurable. On: 2006-01-30
We were given this player as a gift for our five year old. It would freeze during playing of DVDs at first, and we would have to turn the unit completely off and restart it to get the player to work. I thought it was just a little quirk. Then one night about three weeks after we got it, we watched a dvd with it hooked to the the television. Froze a couple of times, no real big deal, then we unplugged it, moved it to another room for watching by itself and it started giving us a NO DISC message. It never worked again. Returned it, and exchanged for another unit, five minutes into the DVD, I pressed the menu button, and that was the last that unit worked. We were getting a LOADING message. Needless to say, try explaining all this to a five year old who just wants to watch his movies!! We returned the second unit, and now are in search of a new unit before going on two long trips in the coming weeks. On: 2006-01-29
Thank goodness for extended warranties as this machine only had a 90 day warranty. It seemed like a nice deal with all of the travel accessories, but buyer beware...at least purchase a warranty if you decide to try this machine! On: 2006-01-06
Previous reviews have commented on reliability, resolution and audio volume through the speakers. We have not have any problems with reliability, resolution (on the 8" screen and connected to a TV) is just fine, and audio volume through the headphones is adequate even on an airplane (speakers are OK in a room). The unit is not designed for volume through the speakers in a vehicle, so if thats what you are looking for, this isnt it.
What we liked was the 8" screen. We found 7" screens to be too small, and 9" screens to result in a unit that was too bulky. The 8" screen is just right, regardless of whether the image is played in standard 4:3 format or widescreen. Two headphones are great, and having a splitter isnt an issue.
The only issues weve identified is the 2-3 hour battery life (its OK, but longer life would be better), and the lack of a video patch cable (the adapter is included, but you need to buy a separate cable to connect it to a TV - add $10-$15 for this).
Would I buy this unit again? Without question. On: 2006-01-04
I came across these reviews when searching for others who mightve had the same problem I encountered. Purchased back in May 2005. Worked great for a few trips, even went overseas with it, then put it away for a few months. Going on another trip, took the player out, and when I insert a disc, it just spins and spins and spins, displaying "Loading disc" on the display. It never gets past this step.
I would definitely recommend anyone looking at this product to stay away. On: 2006-01-02
Crossed my fingers and hoped for the best but the DVD player played one DVD the refused to load another. On: 2005-12-28
For $168 from Sams with the included game controller and 30 games, its quite a deal. But as usual, you get what you pay for. Im not sure why the one reviewer said the built-in speakers were adequate; they are not. We own a 99 Honda Odyssey, a pretty quiet car. We took our first trip with it yesterday (day after getting it as a Christmas present), and the road noise from the new (and quiet) highway was enough to drown out the speakers on maximum volume.
Since it is a portable DVD, meant to be used on the road, it is nearly a complete failure in my book. Also, I didnt know that LCDs could even be made with that low a resolution.
Its going back to Sams. On: 2005-12-27

This Portable DVD is the best on the market for the price. The screen is big enough to see any of your favorite films and the sound is great too. A great investment. On: 2005-11-29
Bought it for the kids to use while traveling Thanksgiving weekend. The car kit with case is convenient and packs well, and was no big deal to carry through airports. The remote and unit controls are well laid out and easy to use. The picture quality when watching animated features was more than adequate. DVDs loaded quickly. The battery did not run out over a bit less than 2 hours of use. The included folding headphones are cheesy, but provoked no complaints. There are not 2 audio jacks built into the unit - an adapter is included instead, and functioned without any problems. We also used the included a/v cables to connect the unit to a television, and it functioned great as a DVD player. On: 2005-11-28

Bought at Sams Club...played only once. The second time I tried it the LCD lost verticle sync. Poor Manufacturing, Dont spend money on electronics that only come with a 90 day warranty.....thats telling you something. On: 2005-11-10
I bought this player in March, it wouldnt load dvds within a month. It was repaired under warrenty but it now wont load dvds again 6 months later. Now I have to spend $100 to fix it. Thats pretty shameful quality! I will probably just buy another brand instead. If you want to buy one - also buy the service plan! by: Anonymous On: 2005-10-28

Bought this item specifically for taking on trips. We opened the item, upon receipt, and turned it on to make sure it worked. It seemed to play fine so I put it away until we would take our trip. A friend bought one and said it locked up on her within the 1st 10 minutes of play. So, I took my player out and proceeded to play a DVD at length. The player locked up within 30 minutes of play. Unfortunately, today is the 30th day I have had the item in my possession. No full returns after 30 days. Frantically, I called customer service to get in within the 30 day limit and was told that a supervisor would have to call me back within 24 hours because the purchase was over a certain amount. Ive never had a bad experience with amazon and Im hoping this isnt the 1st.
Would not recommend this player. Spend the extra $100 or so to get one that is more reliable. On: 2005-09-11
as of yet i havent recd the product altho it was shipped 9/6 from nv. to az....... this is the 3rd amazon order & each time fedex has delayed what s/b a simple delivery..... ill write again after ive received & used the product......... On: 2005-09-01
We purchased this portable DVD player for a trip which included a connecting flight and a five hour drive with our two year old son. The car seat hook-up was pretty simple, the quality of the picture was great. My son did not want to wear the earphones and the sound was heard perfectly well with all the road noise. We even used it on the plane trip and had to lower the volume quite a bit so as not to disturb others. Did I mention how great having a remote for it was. It played through an entire movie and we had no problems with the battery. And guess what? It comes in its own carrying case which fits all the straps, battery and attachments. It was perfect and absolutely well worth the money. Weve used it on about 10 occassions already and no problems. On: 2005-07-09
I bought this unit at Sams club and did not have high expectations after reading all the reviews for the ones costing 3 times as much, but I was taking a cross country trip and wanted to have it to while the time away. It was great! Ill be honest, it is hard to hear some dialoque on airplanes, but I think better headphones would help. I decided to play foreign films so I could read along with the subtitles and that solved that problem. I watched one and a half movies on a trip from Raliegh to LA and it was the nicest time on a plane I have ever had. The pictures is amazing, and if you arent on a plane the sound is great. When the battery dies (after about 3 hours), it makes a horrible sound, and the games included are loud and archaic, but I didnt buy it for games, so I dont mind. I really like this system and it was a great price. I bought a year long extended warranty just in case after reading the reviews. Ive had it a month and have seen about 8 discs on it. I love it. I figure if it lasts 2 years, I have more than gotten my moneys worth.
