More Information

I would buy this Hummer 2 way radio again and again.     On: 2007-03-01

Ive tried another brand of 2 way radios but, nothing compares to the distance that these can reach. I live right against two giant radio antennas. The additional ones I bought, because the Hummer batteries that were provided with it, started to decay and lose power. The rechargeable batteries they have out for Energizer AAs was sort of tedious, as to having to charge them in their own charger. So when I bought these Motorola ones, it was an unfortunate mistake though. The Motorola cannot send a strong enough signal, due to these giant antennas next to my house. I use these 2 way radios for when my children go and return from the school bus stop, as to making sure they make it there safely. But the Motorolas dont do the job as far as I would need them to. So here I am buying more of the same exact Hummer 2 way radios (Because my kids lost one of the last ones) So if you have a problem similar to mine, buy these, they work pretty far away from eachother (I dont know about 7 miles away though) even with interference of outdoor radio antennas. The price is really expensive, but its better spending that, than buying a couple more kinds that wont do the trick. So in the end, these Hummer 2-way radios are worth the money.

Recently purchased the Hummer GMRS radios and noticed nobody had reviewed it. Hope this helps.
OVERALL APPEARANCE- very cool radios slightly larger than the mini models, but built like a Hummer actually. These radios feel and look sturdy with heavy rubber surfaces, very rugged unlike the plastic feel of many out there.
POWER & RANGE- the units operate at a selectable 0.5Watts or 3Watts- in a city with buildings and homes, I am getting up to a mile at low power, and several miles at high although I have not fully tested the distance. I do not think I will get 7 miles, but it appears that the range boasts of companies is more marketing than truth.
FEATURES- I compared this unit to the midland lxt410 and it has all of midlands features and more yet I noticed no one has posted the manual on the Web and the product descriptions do not show all the features. The Digital Compass is very helpful, and the VOX feature lets you talk hands free. The radios have auto squelch which is a mixed blessing. All weak signals cannot be heard unless you use the monitor feature.
FINAL THOUGHT- If you are buying radios like this for fun, save your money and use the cel phone. Within an hour of getting it, the pizazz factor was gone realizing these UHF channels are more of a pain than you would expect. I purchased the radios for personal security during a trip by a family member who will be out of cel range. However, if you have a Hummer (which I do not) I can imagine this being the perfect toy for that car. I see some of the pricing is up to $99, but I have to tell you that with the quality(especially physical appearance) of these radios, I can see someone paying that, which is a lot for me to say. I would also think these radios would make a fantastic gift because of that same reason. By the way, I am not associated with Hummer in any way, and these are my first radios.
