I bought this system for my bedroom last Christmas for less than $100. As an inexpensive surround system for the bedroom it works as designed. Although I doubt it has the power or bass for a larger room. The sound quality is fair to good at higher levels (over 20 on the Colbys display)but at 1 to 5 on the display you get static and scratches most noteably from the rear speakers which is distracting and annoying when watching a movie at low volumes. The sub-woofer helps the units lack of real bass but a seperate powered sub-woofer would really improve the sound quality of modern movies. The lack of an on/off button on the remote is a major pain as the Colby lights up at night like a juke box. This problem cant be solved with a universal remote as there seems to be no curcuit for the remote to activate. So you must get up and walk across the room to power the unit down. All in all Id say for the money its a good choice for a childs room or the guest bedroom, but for the master bedroom or the living room Id spend extra money and get a higher quality unit with a powered sub-woofer youll be much happier. The unit seems to be very dependable as I use it daily and have had no problems to speak of. On: 2007-08-09
Although, it is a cheap low quality product, I did not expected to last less than 6 months. I knew I wasnt buying the best product out there, but it should at least last for a year or so. I would not recommend this product. Save up another hundred dollars or so, and buy a brand known for quality. Hope this helps. On: 2007-07-26
I bought this system about 4 years ago, it worked ok, the sound quality wasnt what I expected but it wasnt bad for the price I paid. Everything was ok until recentally the cd/dvd player went out. The tuner still plays...the bass on it isnt very good but it plays. Also the remote doesnt work the best unless u point it directly into the reciever. If u want cheap for a short period of time this is the product! On: 2007-04-21
My dad received this system for an award at work. Its definitely not top of the line, but it serves its purpose. It is not a powerful system, paartially because the sub-woofer is not a self powered unit, but draws its wattage and output directly from the player, like the speakers. But, it does fair in the room we have it in, and my dad enjoys it. If you want something better, youll have to pay for it. For a basic system, this delivers. Again, So far my other Coby DVD player has done ok for 2 years, and this one is holding up after 8 months, but be aware there are very mixed reviews. If you want one solid home entertainment center, save your money. IF the kids or yourself want a second system for the bedroom area, than this could fill that niche. On: 2007-04-20

I recently bought this home theater and it accomplished all of my expectatives. The sound is excellent and I dont know how this surround system can be so badly critiziced. Althought the problem with the remote controller is somehow true, its nothing to worry about, Im very happy with these speakers in my bedroom. On: 2006-12-20

The Coby 925 is an inferior product compared with todays technology available. The remote control is practically useless. Does not have a On/Off power button on the remote. Will not work unless standing directly in front of the unit and pointing the remote directly at the receiver. Requires several attempts pushing the same button before the receiver will respond. The biggest disappointment is the rude response I got from the technical service dept. when I called to get help because the unit will not play a DVD movie. I was told to buy another movie and to quote the woman tech..."I dont know what to tell ya." I wont ever purchase another Coby product. Dont waste your time with this product line. This product was installed in a new 5th wheel I purchased, so I did not choose it on my own. I will be forwarding a copy of this to the manufacturer of the 5th wheel. Maybe they will switch to another more reliable manufacturer for the audio/video components they install in their RVs. On: 2006-12-15

The player is fine and the speakers sound good (even though they are a little bigger than i thought theyd be). I mean its a good deal for the price, but...
The remote sucks. Youd have to get a universal because it doesnt even have a on/off button and you have to point it at a certain angle (you cant just point it anywhere and expect it to work). I dont know if that part is the remote or the player though. I returned w/o trying a universal remote. I saw a cute one at target for the same price. On: 2006-08-28

This Home Theater has a AM/FM tuner and a receiver built into the unit that powers 5 identical speakers and a subwoofer. The sound is great. Movies recorded in 5.1 DD sound just like the theater.
The speakers are small but many people prefer small speakers to large ones. Large speakers sometimes sound better in very large rooms.
The Coby 925 can play music CDs through five speakers (and sub of course) by pushing a button on the remote control.
The Coby 925 is one of the few DVD Home Theaters that can be region free via a remote code. To do so, with the tray open, just press 0000 and then press 9 to select multiregion. It can play discs other than region 1 and PAL/NTSC. You can find non-region-1 discs at Amazons sites in France and Germany. It is a good way to learn foreign languages.
