I was amazed that in this world of planned obsolescence I could find a device that would convert my old roady2 into a portable live on air XM reciever with an FM radio to boot! The battery life is excelent and the design is logicaly cool. the only drawback is that there is no way to lock the controls to prevent accidental volume or chanel changes. it is the same size as a standard walkman and fits nicely innto my coat pocket. The reception is great, even indoors. On: 2007-12-23
The item works as described, the problem is the toggle switch, which has now snapped off. The customer service advises that if it isnt under warranty then they cannot repair it. Poor product support. Not worth the cost when you cant get it repaired if not under warranty. On: 2006-08-06
I got mine on sale for about half-price so I have no complaints about the cost. It works very well and, for me at least, will even works indoors. The battery will work around four hours while listening to satellite broadcasts. Ive not tried it just on FM. Its certainly not very heavy as some have claimed, at least in my opinion.
The number one problem so far has been removing the Roady receiver after use. The fit is so tight that sometimes it takes all my strength to open the tray. However, I have discovered a solution to that. Get a very thin piece of metal, preferably very strong, such as a fingernail file. In the upper left-hand corner of the audio system the corner is curved. Very gently insert the piece of metal in this corner and very gently pry the radio to the right. You wont have to pry it very far either. So far I havent damaged the receiver, so be sure and use a gentle touch. Ive written Delphi and complained about this problem. They are aware of it, but havent been able to figure a solution. They say the tight fit is required so the system will work properly. On: 2006-03-14
Sign up for the newsletter and special offers online through XM! I also only paid $20, including the shipping! No way would I pay $100-$150, (and Ive seen even higher on eBay....with bids!). Its a bit bulky to carry around, but not bad for an easy conversion. Much better reception than I accepted, not like I can complain for $20! My husband has XM built into his truck radio and it will definitly be the way I go in the future because I am not always pleased with the sound quality with the FM reception through my car radio, but now with this system I think I will use my Roady2 a lot more. I also think the case is built pretty good, maybe for over a hundred bucks it feels cheap, but for $20 it feels pretty good. I feel bad for those that paid the higher price, but its nice to see a company actually do something for its current customers and not just the new ones. On: 2006-03-07
Ya, waiting to buy this thing was definetly worth it. Delphi sent me an email with a link to their web site where you could get one for $19.95. At that price, there is nothing to complain about. The only downfall is that you have to use the provided headphones on the unit, and they are kinda bulky, or just not suitable for exercising in. Oh ya, to sweeten the deal, they also paid shipping and handling. UPS ground got mine here in 2 business days. Thanks Delphi:) On: 2006-03-03
I only paid 20 for mine suckers through the delpi store, pretty good unit for 20 dollars. That is a testament for waiting a month or two before you buy. On: 2006-01-26
Well, after problems getting the item from a 3rd party Amazon Partner, it is finally in my hands. So far, I have had none of the problems I have read here. Case doesnt feel cheap to me, has been very easy to remove from the adapter so I can put it back in the car. The overall weight feels a little heavier than I expected, but it fits in the back pocket of my jeans with no problems so it is not really noticed. The only thing I would like to see is some kind of belt clip or carry case so it can be easily used while jogging or walking...etc. Other than that, I now own all the kits for the Roady 2, and I believe this will get the most use. I couldnt past this up for the price I got it for. I got it for $49.00 at Walmart (in-store-clearance). It work well in certain places ... I am able now to listen to XM on the go ... It is a little bulky but it still worth getting. On: 2005-12-28
First of all - I really enjoy listening to XM radio, which is what made me consider buying this extension device for the receiver. It is truly a good way to further utilize the Roady2, allowing you to listen either to XM, or to tune in local FM stations (why anyone would want to do this, I dont know - maybe an emergency or something).
The unit is fairly simple to set up. You first need to charge the battery by putting it into place and plugging in the included AC adapter. It takes about 2 hours to charge and then you are ready to use the unit. You slide the Roady2 into the device until it plugs in. (If you have set up the Roady2 for a Home adapter or auto adapter - you must first remove the backing plate on the Roady2 - it will snap off with a little leverage (light) with a straight edge screwdriver.) After you have installed the Roady2 unit, you are good to go.
At first, the volume and tuning controls on the side of the unit can be a little vexing to use, but some practice helps you to readily raise or lower the volume or tune FM radio stations. As an additional help, there is a small wheel volume control on the right ear section of the headphones. The headphone acts as your antenna for the unit and the whole thing then works very well.
I am pleased with this unit, but I would advise shopping for price, as it can vary by as much as $100.00 from low to high.
All in all, a nice addition to further utilize the Roady2. On: 2005-12-21
..because I wouldnt dream of paying $150. The case is a bit bulky, but its a good cost effective personal XM Radio alternative. On: 2005-12-15
Being a huge fan of XM, I was excited when I saw this product. Sure it looked bulky, but I wasnt going to be moving around much while I used it, and I was going to use it only outside. The first unit I received worked fine, but the volume/FM frequency selector "toggle" snapped off within the first few hours, leaving me unable to adjust either. This appeared to be a design flaw, and as such I promptly returned it without incident. I did get a second one and am mindful of this toggle switch. I do note that even with careful use, the headphones age very quickly, and I do not think they will last too long. The bottom line is that the product works as advertised, but does so at great expense, bulk, and does not appear to be durable. If you can get a much lower price, go for it! On: 2005-12-14
First off, I am going to be a little more forgiving of this item because I was able to purchase it for $39.00 on closeout.
For the price I paid this unit is outstanding. I have not ran into the problems of getting the Roady in and out that others have experienced. It seems to be a fairly easy process of pressing in on two latches and pulling the case apart. I was very concerned after reading the reviews here that this would be an issue. But I have been able to get the Roady out each and ever time in a few seconds. The Roady does fit snuggly inside the case but I would rather have this than the Roady falling out in my hand.
The case could be made of a little more sturdy plastic, but this would also add to the weight. The case and Roady together weigh about as much a portable CD player. Most of the weight can be attributed to the battery.
As far as reception goes I have been able to get a strong signal short of standing in a six foot hole. I purchased the portable player because I have several hundred acres of land to attend to, and it helps me keep my sanity. I have not ran into an area where the signal drops out on me as of this time.
The headset is not exactly top of the line....but what are you to do? You cant exactly buy a set of Bose headphones and tear the antenna out of included set. So....your stuck for the moment with what comes with in the package.
For the price I paid I cant complain other than the headset. I personaly have not ran into the problems of getting the Roady out of the case to put in my car. The reception is great I can get a signal when my friend with a XM2Go cant.
Its a nice setup but not for $120.00 or so dollars...if it can be found for under 50.00 get it.....you wont regret it. On: 2005-11-21
Im sure its a perfectly good piece of equipment but I was expected the XM Roady 2 with the personal audio system so I was a little surprised when it arrived. Returned it, no problems and what I really wanted is on the way! On: 2005-10-30
What a piece of crap. Horrible reception even in the open outside. Max volume is way to low and headphones are uncomfortable and wear out way too fast. On: 2005-09-29
I travel for work allot so my Roady 2 stays in my car, and I have the antenna sitting on my back dash. None-the-less my Roady gets good reception most of the time, and was super easy to set up. The only thing I dont like about the Roady 2 is that it doesnt display the band name, and sometimes chops off the song name. But there is so much music I dont know I just listen for 10 seconds and figure out if I like it. No Big Deal. And for less then 50 bucks, well worth it! On: 2005-05-16
Great Signal (better than a MyFi XM2Go ) because the XM antenna is on the top of the headphones . Even in the woods fair Signal some cutouts. But poor Case design VERY hard to get out of The dock to use in your car.
Pros. Great signal (with NO repeaters)
FM Radio As a backup (but unless your underground
Youll have good signal)
Cons. VERY BAD CASE DESIGN feels cheep , very hard to remove
Roady 2 from The Personal Audio System.

This system has several things wrong with it. For starters is the price, way to high for such a low quality product. The Roadys signal is constintly being lost, even when staying almost completly still. For a product made for people on the move, this product simply doesnt work. On top of the bad reception, the system is frail. Mine broke the first day, while trying to remove the Roady from it.
also, while the roady is plugged into it, you can not use the Roadies FM transmitter, to play your music where you take it.
I do not recomend this product for anyone, unless you thibnk you can get a good deal on it. I thought I was at the time, but wasted my money, perhaps I can save someone elses money.
