Great sound for a low price     On: 2008-05-23

I bought this mini portable audio system for my desk at work because it looked small and light. When I actually received it I was surprised at how small it really is and a little skeptical, but I am very happy with it. It sounds really good with the volume high or really low. I would recommend this product to anyone; it is a very good buy. The price is excellent also.
Great sound; very practical     On: 2008-04-09

This speaker dock station/player has unbelievable sound. As a massage therapist I need something that produces a quality sound that is very portable and lightweight. I have purchased other lightweight units, but were disappointed with the bass that it would produce. I have had many of my clients make comments and questions on where they could purchase one of these. I purchased mine for about $70 and got a great deal... it charges while it plays great sound and comes with a protective cover.. great for on the go with batteries or as a plug in.
Awesome little portable sound system!     On: 2008-02-23

Phenomenal sound for its size -- almost sounds like it has a sub woofer.
A great price through Amazon (way less than retail asking price published on Altec Lansings web site).

Very convenient for Ipods, MP3s & Portable CD players.
Easy to use     On: 2008-02-16

Great little product, not the best fidelity but it is easy to use, tiny little footprint and suits my needs well. Puts out more volume than I expected. Great price.
Works great with the Mini     On: 2007-12-04

Surprisingly good sound from a compact unit. Works very well with the iPod Mini.

One thing to note: The maximum volume with a direct dock connection is significantly louder than using a patch cord into the line-in input. Just something to consider.

Does anyone know if the iPod dock connector on the iPod Mini is the same as the new iPod Touch???? Id like to dock my iPod Touch in this, but dont want to plug it in unless I know its compatible.

real bargin     On: 2007-11-10

The sound is great. I love the compact size, and the price cant be beat! I liked this product so much, I ordered two more to give my grown children for Christmas.
very good for the size     On: 2007-09-24

It doesnt get loud. It wont fill a big room with blasting sound. If thats what you want, get a boombox.

Its small and flat, easy to carry.
The sound quality is excellent, good definition, crisp high-end, flat sound curve. Its unbelievable that there is bass coming out from speakers of this size.
The sound volume is ideal for small rooms, intimate picnic, background muzak at a small gathering.

It has an extra input jack to plug a non-iPod source - very convenient.

For the price I payed, I cannot wish for more.
Works great on my mp3 player and phone     On: 2007-09-21

I just got this and it works great with my sandisk sansa c140 1gb mp3 player and my samsung blackjack phone. Now I can take my music whereever I go! Sells pretty cheap at the buy website especially after GCO.
Very good for the money     On: 2007-08-23

I also was very skeptical when I bought this speaker, but I have been pleased with it. I wanted something small and light enough to fit in a backpack, but that would allow me to listen to music in a hotel room or a campsite. It has been perfect for this purpose, and it takes up about as much room as a paperback book. It does not provide the quality sound that speakers 4 times the price do, but it is great for the price. Since it can also act as a charger when plugged in, it saves you from buying or carrying that item as well. It also can be powered by 4 AA batteries. It lasts about 16-20 hours on my rechargable batteries.
Works well with ipod nano     On: 2007-07-13

I gave this as a gift to my niece. I helped her set the ipod up and showed her how to use the speakers. Everything worked well and she loved it. Great for the price.
Outstanding for the job it was designed to fill.     On: 2007-06-14

If you want a compact, easy to use, great sounding system, this one is perfect. At the price of $20, you will definitely be satisfied. I use it indoors at work and the sound is awesome, with deep bass and crisp highs. There is never a need to raise the volume over 50% while I am indoors. I have used it once or twice outside and had to put the volume to the max. But even at this volume it sounded great.
Great     On: 2007-06-09

Great sound, ultra light weight makes it truly portable unlike larger clunky speakers. Im really happy with these speakers, a definite good buy!
fine, if bought at a good price     On: 2007-05-25

The Altec Lansing inMotion iMmini does the job, if youre not too picky about sound quality and dont want to play it loud. I like that it is powered either by batteries or AC. Unfortunately, the unit turns itself off when not in use, even when plugged in, so dont expect to use it with your iPod as an alarm clock. That is a good feature otherwise, especially when on battery power. It did also work well with my brother-in-laws Zen MP3 player, although of course it doesnt charge non-iPods. Sound is fine at medium to low listening volumes but distorts significant as you approach max volume, if thats a surprise to anyone. Our JBL onStage has much better sound, but it also cost much more and doesnt run on batteries. All in all, I wouldnt pay full retail for it (or even half-retail), but for what I did pay ($20), I am happy with it.
Plays Ipod Nano, cd-mp3 players, stylish, sleek great sound     On: 2007-04-27

Just bought this great speakers yesterday. i was expecting a quite big package. But the UPS driver handed me a cd-mp3 size case. I was really excited by its size - the entire system fits into my palm. Sound was really great. I have a creative 3300 PC speakers for my desktop. Just to let you know that I dont compromise on music quality. 3300 is a wonderful speaker too with big bass and terrific beautiful speakers. I was not expecting immini to sound like that, but I was expecting quite very little. But this one beats my expectation. Sound was extremely great from this very tiny speakers. If the sound is not good, Id have returned back the item or would have gifted our friends kids. But that is not going to happen.

I was also not sure whether it plays Ipod nano. It fits greatly and the bass is also great. I live in an 2 bed room decent size apartment. With this system I can hear from any corner of the apartment. Some reviews complained about some distortion while the volume is very high. I tend to agree with that (but very little - not bad at all), but that doesnt stop me from giving five stars for its excellent sound (thats the main purpose of the speakers, right?)

Later in the evening, I want to try it with my sony atrac cd-mp3. I was really amazed that the sound quality was better than the Ipod Nano. Hence my mp3 burned cds doesnt really go any waste. Buy website have these systems for just 10 bucks after google checkout which itself is a great deal for this tiny excellent player- I order 2, we have one in the kitchen (Ipod) and bathroom (cd-mp3 player). Great sound - occupies very little space. Now my Ipod Nano and cd-mp3 which sits ideally in the house has potential use hereafter.

Other Pros is
1. It is definitely travel friendly. It comes along with different plugs for different countries, which is good. I will gift one of this to my relatives back in Asia when I visit them.
2. Also, the cable which connects the system and external cd-mp3 player or cd player is great. It is quite short but adjustable.
3. It charges the Ipod Nano. So whenever I need to go for jogging this helps.

Cons:
1. I have sansa m240 1gb mp3 player and this system doesnt play that.
2.

Last advise: Dont compare with Bose systems, you will be disappointed!
For the price I paid (10) this is an excellent system with great sound quality.

The reason I am writing this very lengthy review is because while I searched for few things in other reviews, I couldnt get the answer for many of my questions. Hope this will be helpful to many. I will post couple of snaps in amazon. Check that too.

Enjoy music with this sleek stylish system!!!

Perfect for travel     On: 2006-10-18

I have used my iMmini for 2 years now and its perfect for travel and the sound quality is more than fine for my ears. Very compact and the fact that it also charges my ipod, means I dont have to pack the charger. Only problem I have is it doesnt like being dropped on a hard floor, go figure! Now, if the sound is turned up beyond half way, it cracks. So, I just ordered a new one at 1/3 the price I originally paid 2 years ago. Will give the broken one to my wife to use in her bedroom as she doesnt like the volume loud anyway. Besides, shes the one who broke it!
Excellent Design / Limited Sound Quality     On: 2006-08-28

I bought this on sale for $27 USD and free (fast) shipping. This price point colors my review. Smart fold-away design, intelligent auto-off feature, compact, sturdy feel, nice set of international plug adapters and accessories, (flat, mid-rangy speaker sound is the predominant weakness). Before being overly critical of the speaker sound, (and after now in my 6th hour of ownership having cued through several types of music to obtain a speaker performance sampling), I keep in mind a couple things. (1) This is not a Bose outfit, ok, and it will never be. Once Im past that trauma, I move to number two: (2) This model is composed of earlier technology (built for the Ipod Mini, however it is compatible with many IPODS including 20 GB 4th GEN clickwheel and Nano (and this versatility feature is a feather in the cap; (3) Truly excellent sound requires juice. With this model, Altec-Lansing has struck a fairly reasonable balance between clarity of sound and longeivity of play (claims 24 hours on 4 AAs which is not bad at all though I havent tested it yet). It is clear that, even with its limitations, the overall neatness and reasonability of this unit will grow on you. Bottom line - the Altec Lansing inMotion is what it is - a well formulated portable Ipod speaker system that works well and as intended. With (4) AAs as your power source, dont expect a party DJ machine. Dont expect delineated highs. Do expect a fairly clean [midrange] listening experience with virtually no hiss. The good news is that the product can be purchased significantly below its $129.99 retail, like mine for $27 USD. Makes it all the sweeter.

Love my inMotion     On: 2006-07-17

It is great, but if you want to blast your iPod, it is too distorted. Otherwise it is great.
Description very appropriate     On: 2006-07-11

This item is just as the description says. I am extremely pleased with this system. Highly recommend to others. I bought it for work so I could listen to my Nano. The sound is unbelievable for this price!!!! Amazing bass!
Absolutely worth the price!     On: 2006-05-12

This is a nice little sound system for the price. It is loud enough to fill a small room, and works great on a nightstand or desk. The speakers did not come with a remote, but the Griffin iClick (Amazon/Office Depot $14.99) works well with the Altec Lansing system. The only downside is that the remote will not control the iPods volume when it is attached. Overall a good buy!
Excellent for my purposes     On: 2006-05-10

This product has an international plug set with adapters. This is something that wasnt entirely clear from the product description. Inclusion of these adapters means that you can use this, combined with your iPod mini, as a travel alarm clock just about anywhere in the world and wake up to any playlist you choose. This is great if you prefer to wake up to music like I do. It is also quite small and light.

The volume and bass are adequate and all I would expect from something of this size. If you expect to be able to play this at headbanger levels, youll be disappointed. When I play it close to maximum volume, however, I can hear it all over my rather small house. Turning it up to absolute maximum volume does cause distortion. Otherwise, sounds great for something so small and portable.
Please with my daugther ipod nano     On: 2006-03-15

Review this product over the internet, and it is just what I was looking for my daughter of twelve years of age, pros. is portable and rechargable; cons. the sound is not as good as the Boose but with less volume it is quite acceptable
Worked great for a while     On: 2005-11-17

I loved this speaker system when I got it last year. But in the last few months it developed a loud humming noise that makes it so you can not hear your music. Very disapointed.
Simply the Best!     On: 2005-09-01

IF ... you are looking for the cleanest, most portable sound you can find. Its not loud, but it is oh so clear. And, it is VERY small and light. If you have an iPod Mini you HAVE to get this because it sits on your night stand taking up no space charging your docked Mini as it plays. I use mine with an iAudio G3. Best of all it can also run on four AA batteries. I looked high and low for a little system to take camping and to the beach. This one has no equal for that. If you want bigger, louder sound go for the round, much larger and heavier inMotion7. It blows Bose and JBL away and costs less. But if you want true portability, this one has no equal.
Nice speakers for iPod mini     On: 2005-08-17

I like this because it is specific to the iPod mini. It is compact and has a trick way of folding flat. Works perfectly with the iPod mini. The only drawback is that the bass response is limited. If you want great bass, buy the Bose, but it isnt portable.
inMotion iMmini Portable Audio System for iPod Mini     On: 2005-08-15

Poor sound quality when you turn up the volume even a notch. Complete distortion as even my 10 year old pointed out. It reminded me of the old "transitor" radios from long ago. Completely unsatisfied and returned it immediately. I might have gotten a lemon as a friend of mine purchased the exact same item and hers sounds great.
inMotion Mini Delivers     On: 2005-08-09

The Altec inMotion iMini sound has proven to be as good as they advertise. The quality is better in a room setting than in the outdoors. By using the "Settings" feature on my IPOD I was able to adjust the sound for more bass which is my preference. The $100 investment broadened the opportunities for using my IPOD and gives me the best return on my music investment. The only limitation is you can only use Mini IPODs. If someone wants to bring their IPOD to my house I cant use it with these speakers. Otherwise I am thrilled with my decision.
Awesome small speaker system     On: 2005-08-02

I bought this for my husbands birthday present and it has worked out great. He has the ipod mini, and this system is perfect if you are looking for something small and portable that still has a great sound. My mom has the bose system, and it does sound better and is louder, but it is much bigger and not portable. If you want something to jam for a party, get the bose. However if you are looking for something small to take on the patio, on the boat, or keep in your office, this is perfect. Great sound, awesome portability and it looks cool too.
Small in size and power     On: 2005-07-31

This set of speakers for the iPod mini is very portable, and works well in a small space. The sound is not powerful enough to really blast, though, and at the high end of the volume the music is a bit distorted. If you dont need big sound, it works well. I also like how it recharges the iPod when the speakers are plugged in.
Very Satisfied     On: 2005-07-27

I bought this elsewhere and paid a lot more for it. The unit is very well designed; fit and finish are excellent; and it performs well. At higher volumes, there is distortion. If not for that, Id rate it 5 stars.
It's O.K. --- Not Spectacular     On: 2005-07-17

Given the fine name of Altec Lansing in electronics, I was pleased to find this unit. After a extensive search of similar models, I chose this because of design and fuction. I wanted a source for music while on my balcony. Without a power-source out there, the unit had to be battery powered (4AAs) as well as ac. The only "variable" I did not checkout was sound-quality. This is where this unit suffers.

The iMini plays passibly only at half volume. Crank it up and the distortion takes over. Perhaps using the unit in a small room might work, but outdoors, forget it! I not sure of that "maxxBass" either. Not much bass response. Of course its an inexpensive unit with small speakers, but I had hoped for better sound.

On the plus side, the design enables you to easily view your iPod Mini for song information. It folds up into a nice little package for easy portability.
Not a bad purchase!     On: 2005-07-10

Not a bad purchase. I am satisfied with the inMotion mini speaker set. Besides who has the money to spend $300 on the other speakers? I heard the Bose and of course they sound great. However, my iMminis do a great job in giving public sound to my iPod. Not to mention Amazon gave me a great price on these speakers that is unbeatable. Therefore, I give a thumbs up to this product. I highly recommend them for their clarity of sound, functionality, and mobility.
Great sound in a small package     On: 2005-07-08

After reading many review I decided on the iMmini for two reasons -- both of which have proven true. First, the sound is excellent for such a small system. The speakers fit easily in a briefcase and can easily fill a room with sound. Second, with this system you wont need to buy a separate charger for your iPOD, making it especially handy for travel.

Mini system
by: kikotl    On: 2005-06-14

This is a nice accessory for the IPod that looks good and sounds pretty decent, not great mind you. For the less discerning listener this is a perfect system for being on the go. In some ways the fact that the sound wont blast the doors of a room is a blessing. I bought this for my teenage son and he likes it to take into a room to play outloud . He loves to take it to the bathroom for showering and I dont have to tell him to turn it down! The latest version (im3)does have DC so that takes care of the battery complaint. However rechargeable batteries do the trick for places without DC. The carrying case is very cool, a sleek little lightweight case that will protect the surface with velcro closures .Total size is about 10x 6" which is amazing since it is super thin as well. I would recommend this little package for a cool little addition to your IPod to take your tunes on the road. Besides it looks so darn cool on a desk when you dock your IPod and let your music library play on shuffle.
IF YOU NEED PORTABLE     On: 2005-05-16

I wish I had gotten the larger system instead of the mini, but far from being dissapointed the sound quality is good.If you are traveling ,these are your choice.Small, easy to stow ,and you have sound.Takes batterys and comes with every converter for international travel.I like it.
For a compact travel system, the iMmini is hard to beat     On: 2005-03-29

I needed a compact travel speaker system for my iPod Mini. After looking at the options, the iMmini speaker system seemed to be the best choice. It is very small, sturdy and lightweight, which makes it a perfect choice for travelers. It also sounds pretty good for as small as it is. It does get a bit distorted at higher volumes, but tweaking the iPod Mini EQ settings can usually help in that area. Its not loud enough to fill a room with sound, but it works perfect when sitting at a table having drinks or sitting out on a beach, etc. Im taking mine to Costa Rica with me (along with several fresh batteries), and its not going to make much of a dent in my luggage space...and that is exactly why I picked the iMmini. It also looks pretty stylish with the silver iPod Mini. Its not a perfect sound system (especially if you are looking to blast the tunes like a boombox), but its definitely a great choice if size and portability are desired. Its also worth noting that the iMmini works well with the iPod as a travel alarm clock unit. It may not be for everyone, but its working out really well for me.
AVERAGE     On: 2005-03-04

This system is certainly better than the JBL onstage docking speaker system, however it also has its drawbacks.

Pros: very compact, user friendly, portable.
Cons: eats batteries, lacks a remote, sound quality is average.

If you can afford the Bose ipod base speaker, youll love it. Its worth the extra cash. Sound is incredible. Comes with a remote the size of a credit card.

I have all three...the Altec Lansing is better than JBL, not as good as the Bose.
My experience may be unique but     On: 2005-03-03

.... maybe because its first generation;

(1) Its a complete battery hog in spite of A-Ls claims for long life. AAs last a couple of hours at most. Get rechargeable batteries, but even then you may have problems
(2) 9 volt power plug-in doesnt work. I Had to call A-L for a replacement
(3) I bought some rechargeable high-power NiMH batteries at the suggestion of A-L customer support. It still not enough power. The unit auto shuts-off after 3 minutes.

(4) Its going back to A-L for replacement. They are giving me a full replacement. Hopefully, it will work better.

(5) Sound is very good...when it works

A-L support was great, but overall, I am not happy with this product.
