We bought this as "insurance" in case our son got antsy traveling by plane (which we do a couple times per year). The price was right and we have had zero issues with this DVD player. It has a headphone jack which is great on the plane. The picture and sound are very good. I would definitely recommend this economical option. On: 2008-04-03
Axion AXN6070A 7" Portable DVD Player
Wanted a good DVD player for our granddaughter in the car. Have had this since Christmas and have been very pleased with it. Picture and sound are both great. We had borrowed a different brand for awhile but the sound on this one is much louder. It has fallen on the floor several times and not even skipped. Dont know much about battery life since we mainly only use it on the road. I would definitely recommend this product for kids riding in a vehicle. On: 2008-02-09
I use this portable dvd player every saturday and sunday night at my part time security job and it works perfectly. Whats really amazing is Ive only used the charger maybe three times since Ive bought it and my battery has never died. Ive had this item over 8 months and I havent experienced any problems yet. I fully recommend the Axion portable dvd player. On: 2008-02-04
i got this dvd player for my mother in law. she has always wanted one. so, this was the first thing that popped in my mind. She told me that she loves it. she watches dvds on this thing all the time. i am happy to know that she is happy about her gift, b/c i wanted to make it the best gift this year. On: 2007-11-14
I would NOT recommend purchasing this. The DVD player worked very well for the first few times I used it but probably the 6th time I used it, it cut off to static during the middle of the movie and now will not read any DVDs. It turns on for about 5 seconds and loads as if nothing is wrong then just craps out. With so many options on the market it would be smart to pick another DVD player!!! On: 2007-10-16
Overall the its an OK player, but what turned it from a 5 star rating to a 2 is product detail by Amazon. I looked high and low for weeks for a 7" screen dvd player with hi-resolution which Amazons descriptions claims this to be. Under the specification it says the screen is a 720x480 but when I got my player and measured it out, it was only 480x234 at best. Now I know some retailers would describe a 480x234 as 1440x234 to make it look better than it really is, but I purchased this from Amazon thinking they of all people would have the right specs. Lesson learned, cant trust anyones specs. On: 2007-10-08
I needed an easy to use, easy to carry and easy to use via battery DVD player and that is what I got. On: 2007-08-20
Bought in April, broken by August (stopped reading discs). Even by the standards of these cheap Chinese DVD players, this one was flimsy.
The build quality was suspect -- the auto adapter had a very long thin wire instead of thicker, more durable cord. It was impossible to use the car charger with battery backup, so that when you turned off the car, the movie restarted unless you were using battery (and when the battery was dead, you couldnt switch power sources without restarting the disc).
I had better luck with the Coby. On: 2007-08-10
this is my first portable dvd player. for months i did an online search looking for the best buy for my money. i read several reviews regarding
portable players, and noted complaints about small screens, bad audio, not the sharpest picture, etc, so i was not even sure i wanted to buy one of these type units....however i came across the axion, studied the wonderful reviews and decided to buy it....
WHAT AN AWESOME MACHINE THE AXION IS.....
i am quite comfortable watching the 7" screen, the picture is clear and sharp, the audio is more than adequate without earphones, keeping in mind that i do not use it on an airplane, have not used the remote yet, but the controls on the unit are very easy to use.
the battery last two hours, most times i use it plugged into a wall outlet anyway. right now i am on vacation with no regular dvd player available, last evening i was able to hook up this axion to the tv and watch the dvds on a larger screen, but keep in mind that to do this you also need an extra cable (the one with the prongs that hook up into the 3 different colors on the TV, dont know what it is called) this cable is not supplied by axion, so have one available to hook up to the tv, the other end (prongs) are hooked up to "the cable axion does supply".
i have had this unit for a month now, so at this time i cannot attest to longevity of the unit, i will post again at a later date, but i can tell you at this point in time the axion was well worth the money. On: 2007-08-09

Ive had this DVD player for two years now, and have found it to be reliable, with nice viewing, a decent battery life and pretty durable. Weve dropped it a few times, and it still works well. I love how it has "anti-shock", so when riding in the car on a bumpy road, it doesnt restart. Its easy to operate, has portals for two headphones, and comes with a remote. Yes, the battery only lasts for two hours or so, but it works well for us. I would definately buy this again! On: 2007-07-12

Ive had this for about six months, and use it about 3 times a week. Its been a great little player, even at this price. Ive mostly used it at home, plugged in, but even when using it with the battery it works fine. Battery life is about 2 1/2 hours. The picture is very good, and the toggle from widescreen to pan&scan is a plus, since I watch a combo of new movies and old. I really like that all the "adjustment" controls are mechanical, that is, on the player body rather than brought up on the screen. This makes it easy to pause, arrow back and forth, fast forward or back, and turn a control wheel adjust to brighter or darker screen. It is very lightweight, and I am careful moving it around, so I dont know how it would do being banged around, dropped, etc. But the light weight is a plus for me since it makes it easy to carry it from room to room as I sometimes do, especially when playing an audiobook CD. The sound tone is pretty good for a portable, with no adjustments except for volume. I havent played music on it, but speech is crisp without sounding tinny. I am not a "techie" by any stretch of the imagination, so I am very glad to have found this nice little player my first time out. On: 2007-06-08
I purchased this for my 2 year old daughter so I can have my big TV back. She does not treat it very well and it has help up to all of her abuse without any problems. My only complaint is the brightness adjustment is where I would expect the volume to be so the brightness gets adjusted a lot when I just want to turn it down. Pretty minor problem in my opinion.

I have two kids, so I spend a lot of time driving and waiting around and, as everyone knows, waiting rooms of any kind are the 7th circle of hell. I got this to play movies etc. Ive downloaded from the internet. It took a while to figure out the best way of doing that, but now that I have I wouldnt be without this little toy! Its incredibly compact and except for the earphones I had to buy, it came with everything else it needed (power sources, remote). I wasnt expecting hi-def, just something that worked and I think both the audio and video far surpassed what I expected. I use this propped on a stand while Im walking on the treadmill, and I always carry it with me when I have to take the kids somewhere. For the price, its WELL worth it. On: 2007-03-15
I really liked this little player. It broke very easily though. Thats my only complaint. Great picture. On: 2007-03-09
I got this as a holiday special on amazon and paid $25 for it. I dont think I would pay much more for it though. The lens got dirty almost right away and it stopped working until I cleaned it off. It works though and does the trick but its not that wonderful! On: 2007-03-08
This is the 4th player Ive tried, the least expensive, and best screen quality. Easy and dependable. On: 2007-03-02
At the same time that I purchased the Axion AXN6070A 7" Portable DVD Player for my kids, I also purchased the Phillips PET824 8.5" portable DVD player for myself. The Phillips is in a different league than the Axion, and if youre a traveler that will rely on the battery life of the portable DVD player, then you definitely dont want the Axion. The Phillips is a bit more expensive, but it has everything and more than you could want out of a portable DVD player.
Both the Phillips and the Axion LCD screens are crystal clear. You lose a little definition as you move side to side (as with most LCD type screens), but nothing too drastic that would warrant a complaint. The Phillips PET824 has an 8.5" screen and the Axion a 7" screen. The 1.5" difference is not dramatically different, but the larger Phillips screen does enhance the viewing experience.
The sound is fair on both the Phillips and the Axion without headphones, but I dont think that the idea was to use the units without them. Sound is fabulous on the Phillips with a good pair of headphones, and just okay on the Axion; your iPod headphones will do just fine for either unit (and if you dont have a pair youll need to buy one because the players dont come with any). Both have two audio output jacks, and a 3-way splitter (not included) worked fine on both so that 4 people could watch and listen at the same time with headphones.
Heres the big difference between the two units: Battery Life.
Ive gotten almost 7 hours out of the Phillips battery, and the Axions battery gives you less than 2 hours. Therefore, if youre an airline traveler or just want to bring your player somewhere that you cant use either the car adapter or the DC adapter, then you absolutely dont want the Axion; you want the Phillips.
On a recent airline trip the Axion--after a full charge--conked out after less than two hours...thats not even a full movie in most cases.
The Phillips battery is a bit bulky. Youd think that with todays technology theyd be able to slim it down, but you cant complain about the 6+ hours of life you get with it after a full charge. The Axions battery is smaller and more lightweight than the Phillips, but what can you do other than watch a few SpongeBob episodes with less than two hours of battery life. The Phillips PET824 is good for at least 2 full-length features before charging and thats awesome for long trips where you cant use the DC adapter or car adapter.
The car adapter on both the Axion and the Phillips work great and they both have long cords. So no need for the battery on car trips. The Axion at best might be a nice, less expensive alternative if you wont be taking your portable DVD player to places that require battery use.
Both the Phillips and the Axion fit in my small briefcase, and theyre both relatively light. The Axion is a feather compared to the Phillips. Amazon sells cases for the units that can mount on the back of the driver or passenger seats. The case I got also mounts in between the driver and passenger seats. Id highly recommend a case for your player. I went with the Case Logic Koskin DVD Player Case.
All in all....The Phillips PET824 was a much more satisfying purchase for me. For my purposes, the Axion just wont do for airline trips, and thats a major requirement; hence, the Axion is a major disappointment. But as I said earlier, the Axion is certainly a viable alternative if you dont mind sacrificing screen size and you dont plan on the need for battery power.

Ive had really bad luck with portable DVD players. I had two Toshibas which were chock full of features, but both of them ended up malfunctioning after about a year. I decided to save a little money and go with this Axion one, since it got decent reviews. And I am happy with it! It is very basic, but its quiet & runs nicely. It even comes with a remote. The sound quality is excellent, and though the video resolution isnt spectacular (text is a little hard to read), for the money, its a great treat to be able to watch a DVD without having to reset the laser every half hour. I look forward to many happy hours of DVDs. On: 2007-01-17
I have owned this player for over a month now, and have had no problems with it. Battery life is ok too. We took it on a long drive, and my son was able to watch a full Harry Potter movie on a single battery charge. The brightness of the screen was sufficient for watching the movie in a bright van with full sunlight coming in. The audio output of the unit is also impressive for its size.

I got this as a deal for $20 and I use it as a regular DVD player at home (connected to my TV) and a portable one when I am on the road. Battery is decent. It can use any DC power (at the appropriate voltage) also due to its design. Only little problem.... remote doesnt have a volume control.. but then many DVD players dont. On: 2007-01-11
I had already gotten a portable DVD player but after I saw this one I took it back. For a cheaper price I got this one. The screen is larger and the battery life is longer. My husband and son LOVE it. We havent experienced any problems with it. Great Buy! On: 2007-01-11
Amazon hooked me up by selling me this for less than $25 - thanks to there Customers Vote contest. DVD works great in everything. My only complaint is that the screen doesnt dim when closed (inconvient if you are hooking it up to a bigger TV). DVD player is great for video games and the battery lasts surprisingly well. On: 2007-01-10
Ive had the player for several months now and have had zero problems with it. My battery lasts almost 3 1/2 hours, allowing me to watch almost two movies. Includes AC and car adapters, so you always have power wherever you go. Screen is crystal clear and sound isnt at all shabby. If you are thinking about a 7" player... for the price, this player is for you! On: 2007-01-10
This took out the package, plugged it in, and got nothing. The power light would not come on. The connection going into the unit seemed to be flimsy. After wiggling the wire around, I got some static on the screen. Finally I got the power to stay on, and tried playing a DVD. It played a few minutes and then froze up. Repeated this 3 times, put it back in the package, and mailed back to Amazon. On: 2007-01-09
We got this player right before Christmas and it was a lifesaver on a trip abroad with our two little ones. The picture and sound quality is great and I couldnt be happier with this product. Hopefully it will last for a long time, as the last player we had (a different brand) didnt fare so well. On: 2007-01-03
Plays well, keeps kids occupied for hours on road trips.
Watch DVDs in bed with headphones and your partner sleeps without knowing.
Havent searched for optional TV tuner, signal would be dead in 2 years anyways, unless they option an HDTV tuner at that time.
Going to see how long battery will last without giving it its initial charge, otherwise requires monthly charge after use or lifespan deteriorates, see manual...
Got this deal for $25 during an Amazon voting special. On: 2007-01-03
I have been lurking on Amazons customer reviews for this and other portable DVD units for quite some time. I bit the bullet and bought it because the reviews were generally favorable. Techniphobe that I am, I found the player to be easy to use, lightweight and great screen resolution. CDs also sound pretty good on this little workhorse. Good product for the money. On: 2007-01-02
I ordered this item for my mother for the holidays. She had purchased another portable cd player from one of those more expensive stores. I helped her get both of them going, and have to say that this one is just as good if not a little better than the pricier one that she has. It was much easier to hook up and figure out how to work. It didnt have all the bells and whistles that just confuse people, and she didnt need them anyway. I recommend this product to anyone needing a really nice portable player with half the headaches of set-up at half the price!!! On: 2006-12-27
Right out of the box, this thing doesnt work properly. When I insert a DVD, it sometimes freezes, and cant load the DVD. It usually gets stuck as its trying to load the main menu of a DVD. I havent noticed it freezing during actual playback.
Ive only had this for a few days, so maybe things will get better - but right out of the box, it should at least work, and it doesnt.
Be cautious with this - even though its currently $80, it may not be worth it. On: 2006-12-04
Excellent dvd player...especially for the price! I won this in the Customers Vote Promotion for $25 bucks! I love it! Works smoothly and pefectly just as it was supposed to. I would definitely buy again (even at the regular price!). On: 2006-07-13
We have had this unit for a little over a year and have used it a lot! Still working well, good quality picture and sound. I have noticed that it is starting to act a little funny, loading slowly and freezing sometimes...these things may have just a limited lifespan overall. I also recently purchased an Axion Dual Screen PDVD player for the car and am likewise very pleased with that unit as well. Axion has been good to us. On: 2006-01-27
Compared to other PDVDs in the market. This one is the best of the breed. The unit has 2+ hours of running time and i can finish a whole DVD movie. It has two headphone jacks so my girlfriend and I can listen and watch movie together on a flight. It has video out so you can hook to a bigger TV. It comes with car cord and re-charging adaptor. The screen is sharp and clear. This PDVD rocks. On: 2005-11-23
Ive enjoyed using Axion Portable DVD player. The screen image is very good, even in bright lighting. Picture quality is good and meets my expectations. I like that the dvd accepts multi-formats. The sound quality is excellent at the phone out jacks. The speakers are a little tinny and lack much bass. But for their small size they do very well. The remote is excellent. The battery usually lasts for an average of a movie and a half. On: 2005-11-19
I thought this would be a good purchase. Our first one arrived, and didnt work. The disc would spin, but would never load. We returned this, and got a replacement that was worse than the first. This one would spin the disc and make horrible sounds. The DVD never would play.
Dont buy this. On: 2005-11-02
I Purchased this player on impulse. I love it not a problem. Helped me no power and so on clear my head and enjoy and not focus on the difficulties from the storm. Purchased a cigarette lighter outlet to charge this dvd player or just watch in the car with the regular adaptor which came with it. NEVER LET ME DOWN FROM DAY ONE! On: 2005-10-26
I had to return the DVD player after 2 months, b/c it would freeze for a couple of seconds, pause, and make "chunking/skidding" sounds. Right when i got it, I put it thru a 12 hr burn in cycle, and it passed. But later on, it started with these symptoms. Pix quality was average, sounds was good. A little bulky and heavy. Then bought the Toshiba 1600. Lighter, and well see how that lasts. On: 2005-10-25

Little flimsy in the construction, but great with a low impedance headphones(Sony MDR-V300 Monitor Series) The picture is much better that most in this price range.
Not recommended for those who are rough on there toys.

Ive had this player for almost a year now and Ive been in Iraq just as long. It has been so durable and has kept up with me. I love that its slim and can fit so easily into any bag. Also, its wonderful that it is a CD and MP3 player because thats a money and space saver. I find it to be perfect for traveling or for any situation. I would definitely recommend this item, as its probably one of the best things I own over here. Definitely worth it! On: 2005-04-12
After owning this amazing player for a week, I continue to be amazed. It is shock resistant while playing in my car, has more than adequate viewing and listening features as a stand alone player, and outputs excellent video and sound to an external monitor or tv with rca type input jacks. It works well on the removable battery and plays dvds better than my $49 Digix set top player, at least so far. I am very impressed and satisfied, again, at least so far. On: 2005-04-11
