Awful Purchase From Wall Street Photo     On: 2008-05-27

The shutter does not open all the time and when I sent it back to Wall Street Photo they sent the same camera back to me again when I have asked for a refund....
KODAK RIPS OFF THEIR CUSTOMERS WITH THIS CAMERA     On: 2007-06-14

I purchased this camera for my office. I had to convince my boss that Kodak was a good camera and the dock system was the way to go...unfortunately my recommendation turned out to be a nightmare!! We spent almost $300 for the camera and dock station - havent taken 75 pictures with the camera and it is junk! When I turn the camera on it extends the lense about 1/4" and then retracts and shuts itself off. I tried all of the sites from Kodak and after numerous correspondence with Kodak the conclusion is: 1. I can send the camera back to them and for $125.00 they will fix it. (I can buy a new one for $129.00) 2. I can send the camera in and they would sell me a "refurbished" camera for between $250-$300. OR 3. Pitch the piece of junk camera and buy anything else but a KODAK....Im going with #3 !!! Save your money and time trying to deal with Kodak!!
Digital camera     On: 2007-05-13

This camera was worth the money. I like that if you take a picture and you do not like it you can deliete it right away.It is easy to use. I am still learning how to use it. I just like that a lot is turn on and pic a setting and take a picture.
Never buy a Kodak Camera     On: 2007-04-27

I have had this camera for about a year. It has been nothing but a problem. First, the kodak easyshare software has continuous problems. I have spent HOURS trying to fix it. Still has bugs in it no matter what I do.

Secondly, the camera is very unreliable. I have a wedding to go to this weekend and I do not trust it and am taking a disposable camera too. How do I explain the problems I have had? There are so many. The camera misfunctions continuously. Sometimes it does nothing at all. Other times the zoom lense will not shut. You turn the option selector on and even though it is on the option you select you get another option. I sometimes can not even shut the camera off I gotta take the batteries out to do so...if I can even find batteries that work in the camera.

Honestly, I call tech supoport and told them the problems I have having and they tell me that only Kodak batteries work with the camera and told me to buy some. SO I went to a nice camera shop and they do not sell kodak batteries. The camera salesman told me that Kodak cameras are junk and the brand of battery should not matter. I believe him. So my camera which would not work...I asked the salesman to help me out. It did not work with any lithium batteries.....reusable or rechargable. He popped in some alkaline batteries and amazingly it worked. Well, everyone knows alkaline batteries have a real short short life. My camera now does not work with either batteries. Probably only Kodak batteries....maybe....or maybe Kodak wants to get another ten bucks out of me.

I personally dont even think the pictures this camera takes are any good. Really, when people take pictures of me with this camera my eyes are always closed. I am so anxious to get rid of this camera.....well would be but know I gotta fork over at least $250 on a good camera. Trying to save money on this disposable camera was a waste. STAY AWAY FROM KODAK CAMERAS! If you dont believe me get a creditable camera magazine and read reviews.

Pricey repair quote     On: 2007-04-10

I too purchased this camera online. I believe that the camera itself took quality photos, but upon the lense no longer telescoping. I contacted the repair line only to find out that they quoted me $150 for the repair! I could not locate my receipt, even though I purchased it new online and registered it, they would only say, "no receipt, no warranty". Valuable lesson learned.

Keep receipt... nice camera.
Excellent camera     On: 2007-03-07

I have never been an avid photographer, preferring much more to experience and enjoy the moment rather than fumbling around with a camera trying to get the perfect shot. This camera, with its ease of use and great picture quality, gives me the best of both worlds. Ive had it for over 6 months now and have been very pleased with it. The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is for one piece of misleading advertising. The camera is touted as running on AA batteries, but when you read the manual you learn that "standard" AA alkaline batteries are not recommended. You must use lithium or rechargeable batteries instead. This is probably the reason for many reviewer complaints about battery life and about the camera shutting itself off - it just doesnt run on alkalines. But Ive had no problems running it on lithiums and rechargeables.

I also cant make any recommendations about the software one way or the other. I did the custom setup and installed the USB drivers only, which work fine. I use Adobe Photoshop Elements to do my editing and am thrilled with the results.
JUNK!     On: 2007-02-12

I bought the 2700 easy share camera and printer dock. Money thrown away!! The camera doesnt take quality pictures in my opinion and the printer was junk, also in my opinion. It truly is junk now as I got so frustrated with it, I threw it on the floor and smashed it. Not kidding! When I first got it,I called Kodak and they told my son( who is knowledgeable in this stuff) how to reset the printer. We reset it and it worked for awhile. Then it wouldnt work any more and I did away with it. No more Kodak for me and my son bought a different brand after he saw how mine worked.
Camera died after 1 year and 4 days. Repair cost close to original cost     On: 2007-02-07

We never dropped our camera and until now its still looks fresh and new. And one day, the lens just wont open. It lights up then after a few seconds, it turns off automatically. Called a up a Kodak Service center and they gave me a quote for repair.

The price theyve given me is close to my purchase price here in Amazon!

Ill never buy a Kodak camera again until they come up with a good pricing for repairs. I do believe that all electronic gadgets die at some point. So Im expecting a believable quote for repairs.

I think Kodak is making expensive disposable digital cameras
Mixed reactions for this one     On: 2007-01-21

Im fifteen years old, and photography is a major hobby of mine already. I had been using my fathers way-out-of-date 2.1 megapixel camera for about 2 years, and wanted an upgrade to a better camera. When I was searching, this was not on my list of cameras to buy. I was looking at ones such as the much more slim Sony Cyber Shot DSC-W5. I made sure to give my mom a list of all of the ones I wanted, since Christmas was approaching fast.
When I opened my gifts and found the Z700, I wasnt sure what to think, and I admit I may have been a bit ungrateful. From the package, it appeared to be clumsy to hold, because since Im left-handed I tend to take pictures up-side-down so that I can hold a camera with my left hand. The design of this prohibited me from doing that, because the grip on the side was a bit awkward and manufactured for right hands. It also appeared really bulky against other cameras Ive seen, because the grip plus how far the lense zooms out makes it a big camera compared to others. It also runs on normal batteries, but it CANNOT use alkaline. They last all of about 5 shots. You have to buy either special batteries from Kodak, or lithium batteries, both of which are extremely expensive. With my first few uses, it was hard getting used to the large design, and the LCD screen was smaller than I had expected as well.
After about a month or two, I started getting used to it. Once I got past the size, I realized it takes very crisp pictures. The digital zoom is useless because it adds pixelation, but the normal zoom is very good by itself. The LCD pretty much washes out in bright light, but the viewfinder is very helpful. THe same happens in low light. It has a lot of settings that are found to be useful, such as night portrait, night landscape, text and documents, and self-portrait. The sports setting is also useful. Its hard to focus on closeup stuff in auto mode, but the self-portrait option takes care of any closeup stuff. It is also a heavy camera, which makes it feel a lot more sturdy than some of the lightweight aluminum cameras now. The dial is a little hard to turn, and the buttons are a little hard to press, but everything is really easy to figure out, and youll be taking great pictures in no time.
Good camera, good clarity     On: 2007-01-12

I use the camera for taking pics for our commercial web site and the photos are very good. Easy to work with, light weight, the auto-focus works well. The manual settings are easy to figure out too.
You dont need to install the software for many computers: just insert the card into the slot and there might already be software that was included with the pc. Also dont need the docking station if you have a media drive.
I havent had problems with excessive battery consumption nor sudden shutting off. I think many of the camera brands have pulled back on quality control in favor of mass production. If the camera fails quickly, you can return it. I had an Olympus (which I loved) die after a couple of years and the repair costs would have been as much as a new camera. Its not just Kodak.
And for sure, get an extra memory card and use that.
Very Pleased     On: 2007-01-11

I love this product. Im not much of a camera person. But it takes great pictures. Two other people I know both have it and they love it too.

#1 in ease of use     On: 2007-01-04

A winning combo! The 4MP digital camera takes vivid pictures and will allow clear enlargements up to 11" x 14". The 5X optical zoom lets you get a little closer look than most 3X optical zoom digital cameras. The neatest feature on this camera is the built-in lens cap that automatically shields the lens when the camera is turned off. Kodak digital cameras are #1 in ease of use for a reason - they are point-and-shoot simple for everyday users, but have the extra settings to tweak if you want more specific control. This camera will take compressed video clips depending on the size of your memory card. You will want to purchase a larger SD memory card than what is included with the package. With the included cords, you can hook the camera up to a TV to view pictures you have taken or have it display a live view. This is indispensible if you are babysitting. Kids love to see themselves on TV! The printer dock Series 3 lets you dock the camera to recharge the batteries, print pictures, and one-touch transfer the pictures to a computer for touch-up or emailing. You dont need to have the computer on to print pictures. It will print 4 x 6" or smaller multiples of a picture. The photo paper and cartridge refills are available online or from most large retailers. They arent cheap, but it lets you have your own photo lab at home. Hard to beat the Amazon price.
Camera + printer dock = pictures, prints, battery charger, and computer interface.

Camera very good - software ok - printer dock fair     On: 2006-12-31

I was one of the last hold outs to give up my film camera and buy a digital camera. I wanted to buy a Nikon - but couldnt justify the cost and figured the price would come down eventually. Until then, i figured id buy an interim camera - kodak easyshare Z700

1-Camera takes very good pictures and has a variety of settings for every occasion. I primarily use the AUTO [w/ & w/o flash] and get very good results. Ditto for Landscape & closeup. Camera is easy grip and fits comfortably in my hand.

2 - software for uploading to computer. I dont know if its the printer dock or software but usually my computer doesnt find the hardware. I usually have to remove the old software and reinstall THEN the camera is found and uploading begins.

If your not gonna print pics - skip the printer dock and use another methodology to upload pics to computer.

Great, User-Friendly Camera
by: ladyvalour    On: 2006-12-06

I wanted to make one thing clear about this great camera. A few reviewers expressed that it is a "battery hog" and that it was "dead after 6 months". This is because they used AA batteries. The instructions clearly state that AA batteries are not recommended and that they may ruin the camera. A CRV3 battery (one) is the proper battery to use. It gives plenty of power and long life.

That being said, I have used this camera for one year and it has delivered wonderful results.
Easy to use, great camera     On: 2006-11-14

I have only one complaint, it didnt come with a case! Other than that its a great camera for the money!
Great ........But     On: 2006-11-07

I did my research before getting this product, as a matter of fact it was suggested by a friend. Several months later I am a not happy with the printing - I can print about 4-5 pictures before getting a message that the ink is running low. Then probably 3 more before I have drained the ink cartridge all together.

Not happy about that at all. Rethink this one.

An excellent camera for the price     On: 2006-11-06

This is the second one Ive bought. My daughter claimed the first one. I make miniatures and needed a digital camera to photograph them. Something not too expensive and that would take GOOD close-up photos. This camera is excellent! All the photos Ive taken have come out beautifully, whether landscape scenes or pics of my 1" minis. I highly recommend this camera.

DEAD AFTER 6 MONTHS!     On: 2006-10-30

I bought this camera brand new 6 months ago. It has been used very lightly on birthdays and holidays. It has never been dropped and stored properly but now it is dead.

Aside from my bitterness over it going dead so soon I would still give it a low rating because of how fast it goes through batteries. Two AA batteries would only last one photo shoot. It is relatively easy to use and the picture quality was good but this camera is not mechanically sound.

Battery hog, very frustrating!!!!     On: 2006-10-18

I havent learned how to use all the features on this camera, but Im sure when I do there wont be nearly enough battery power to actually do it. This camera will run about a half hour on fresh batteries, and then it just turns off. I thought it was defective, but a camera guy told me the Kodak digitals are like that. I would recommend a different brand with a special battery pack, not one that runs on two AA batteries. Im going to try rechargables just to save some money, but this will never be a good camera for trips or outdoor stuff. Also, it sucks at landscape pics, bright colors (such as sunrises and sunsets) appear washed out and pale. Even a bright fuschia forest-fire sun is an anemic pale yellow (maybe thats just a digital thing).
Great for the first 8 months or so     On: 2006-09-11

Aside from the fact that the camera was eating batteries like they were M&Ms (no matter how powerful the battery -- even rechargeables), we were very pleased with the camera and dock after receiving it as a gift right after Christmas. I hadnt had good experiences with Kodaks digital cameras previously and was excited that they had improved so much!
Then in June our son was born and we were extra-super-excited to know that we had such a good camera/printer at home ... and almost as if I was jinxing it, the printer stopped behaving. We would get "Out of Paper" errors about 75% of the time when there was obviously paper in it ... and then "Paper Jam" errors the other 25% when there WAS no jam!
As it is, because of the battery issue weve mostly been using the camera more as a card slot for the printer than a camera -- taking the photos with my Pentax Optio and then moving the card over to the Kodak in order to use the dock/printer. Now with the printer acting up every time we try and print a picture of the baby the whole package has become close to worthless.
The 3 stars Im giving are extremely generous -- and only because we did have a good handful of months out of it and when it WAS working the picture quality was excellent. If youre looking for long term quality, I suggest looking elsewhere.
Bad performance. It turns off suddently at the 2nd. day.     On: 2006-08-29

I think Kodak is not a good brand for digital cameras. They always have some functional problem...This camera looks like a cheap material, its heavy and not handly. I dont recommend this product. Also, the second day that I received it, it started to turn off by itself... Im still waiting for my money back... I hope this bad purchase finish in good terms. In CONCLUSION: Do not buy Kodak Digital Cameras any more. This is my second experience with the brand...So, belive me...it will be a problem in the short term.

You Won't Be Sorry     On: 2006-08-26

I bought the Kodak Easyshare Z700 Digital Camera and Kodak Printer Dock (Series 3)a month ago and I am blown away by the beautiful pictures I can take with this camera and the ease of printing them with the printer dock. This is my first digital camera and I was afraid that with my limited knowledge, I would really goof everything up, but this camera is practically goof proof. The printer is equally easy to use. Dont be afraid of this camera and printer if you have no experience with a digital. If I can do it, anyone can.
Great camera for larger hands!     On: 2006-08-25

The Z700 is easy to use and comfortable in my hand. Although the flash is bright, the accompanying software takes the red out of eyes with the click of a mouse. My kids enjoy using the camera as much as I do. Loading the pictures onto the PC couldnt be easier!
great camera for the price     On: 2006-08-24

-For a camera under $150, the Kodak Easyshare Z700 has been great. Picture taking is easy, set-up instructions are clear and well-written. I didnt purchase the docking station and it appears that hasnt diminshed the over-all functionality of the camera.
Kodak Easyshare Digital Camera     On: 2006-08-23

The camera was a gift for my 15-year old son and he is really enjoying experimenting with all the features--he has produced a video which we all viewed on the tv, he is taking abstract pictures of ordinary things and producing interesting pictures. He thinks his camera is "cool."
a big battery eater     On: 2006-08-05

I had the earlier model of kodak camera and liked it. One thig about the kodak camera, they seems to produce high quality photo. We really like the picture. However, I am not happy about how fast we need to change the batteries. We can still use the used batteries for electric toothbrush (still enough power left for it), but not for the camera. The camera starts to shut off in a few seconds when the batteries do not have enough power for it anymore. It is very frustrating. We had suspected other defects, but as soon as we put the new batteries in it, it works fine. The older model went through a lot of baterries, too, but this one seems to be worse.
Kodak has produced a winner     On: 2006-08-01

For those of us who are digitally challenged, this camera is really neat and user friendly. I recommend it to anyone looking for a new digital for recreational use.
Great piece of gear     On: 2006-07-04

After years of using a few other cameras, I finally saw the light and bought a Kodak. The Z700 is a fantastic camera for the price. Optical zoom was important to me, as was size. While not tiny, this camera fits easily into my purse to capture those spontaneous moments my children provide. Uploading is very easy, even without the docking station and the clairty and resolution of the pictures Ive taken is great, particularly with the selection of scenes like beach, party, museum, etc. I would highly recommend this camera to anyone who likes to take pictures of family and friends and make prints to share and frame.
Super easy to use camera & printer     On: 2006-06-13

Love this camera and printer. The most simply camera and printer to use that I have ever purchased. Wonderful color prints. I have several digital cameras and this is by far my favorite. Great protective coating that is on prints. You can handle the photograph immediately when it is finished printing and it does not harm you photograph. Highly recommend this bundle.
Good camera but big repairs     On: 2006-05-25

I have had this camera for four gentle-use months, and the battery door and circuitry just gave out, with a repair costing half as much as the camera itself did. The camera takes good pictures and is a good size, but the battery bay on mine has had troubles since I purchased it. Having purchased it from a re-seller here on Amazon, I cant use the warranty and am out the money.
Don't buy this camera !     On: 2006-05-07

I bought this camera for my wife for her birthday. At first she loved the features and ease of use. But unfortunately in less than a month the camera just died, lost all power .Tried fresh batteries to no avail. When we returned it to the place of purchase we found they no longer carried this model .Big surprise. Being 35mm SLR buffs we decided to upgrade to the next model the Z740 which has full manual controls and features similar to a SLR .We instantly fell in love with this camera but alas , within less than two weeks this camera also died .Same scenario , lost power and fresh batteries didnt help . I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER KODAK CAMERA !!!
Fantastic Camera For The Price     On: 2006-04-28

Ive played with digital cameras before but Ive always preferred film. My earlier digital cameras were cheap and nasty, but now that prices are falling, I decided to invest in this little gem.

The camera packs a wealth of photo settings to ensure you take the best possible picture and downloading to the PC is a piece of cake. I use my images in Photoshop so I am thankful for the crisp, clear pictures it takes.

I would recommend getting the docking station (which comes with the rechargeable battery pack) unless you want to spend money on batteries. Also, get an additional memory card to give you more storage space.

I would have given the product 5 stars, but I wish the bundled Kodak software would come with "Auto Start" preferences. I dont like programs running in the background so I had to edit my PC startup settings manually to prevent the EasyShare software from booting at Startup.

Aside from that, this camera is money well spent.
Windows XP problem     On: 2006-04-19

I have a different model Kodak camera, however they all use the same EasyShare software. Running Windows XP, I could not get the software to work properly. After several hours on the phone with Kodak tech support, they couldnt get it working either. They said they are aware of the problem on some computers running Windows XP. It is now several weeks later and they still dont have a fix. They dont really seem to care either.

It might not be a bad idea to consider other brands, instead of Kodak. Since, if the software wont work properly, then what good is the camera?

Kodak Z700 Comments     On: 2006-03-20

Easy to use, easy to hold especially as Im left handed. No complaints except they could have given you rechargeable batteries. Somewhat new with digital but this looks like a great camera for a beginner.
good camera (but with a few caveats)     On: 2006-03-18

The Kodak Z-700 is my first digital camera. I like it very much, except for...

The cons: The cameras 16 MB internal memory card is a joke, as are the two included AA Kodak batteries. Within less than two hours of use, the memory card filled up; I would expect a modern "high-tech" digital camera to match if not exceed the 24-photo minimum of its 35mm predecessors. And although the batteries probably ran low because I tested the camera at night using the flash and fiddled with the menu and other controls, I would expect more.

The next day I ventured outside to take photos with a different set of used but fairly new AA batteries. All went well at first. But then the camera began to power off suddenly, sometimes in the middle of a photo comp or after Id used the zoom, and sometimes when placed in certain modes such as close up, landscape, etc. I noticed the occasional red flashing light indicating a low battery, yet the low-battery icon on the view screen appeared to be around the 50-percent mark. I considered returning the camera to Amazon. Sigh.

Recommendations: Luckily, though, I had heeded the fine advice of other reviewers in this forum and had also ordered a 256 MB external memory card, rechargeable batteries, and docking station. (At the time of purchase, the docking station was just $7 more than the charger and offered some handy features.) I recycled the depleted AA batteries, inserted the rechargeables, and let the camera charge overnight on the docking station. The next day I inserted the external memory card, formatted it, and began taking photos...

The pros: Lo and behold! Properly geared and powered, this camera exhibits no aberrant behavior and takes gloriously sharp, clear pictures. Its focus is better than that on my point-n-shoot 35mm. The color is realistic and vivid. The software is intuitive, and with the docking station you can recharge the batteries and transfer photos to the computer with the touch of a button. The camera itself is ergonomic and nicely weighted, like a fine chefs knife.

Overall, Im happy I purchased the Z-700. Its rated #2, after a Canon, in a recent Consumers Reports review of digital cameras. I just wish that Kodak packaged the camera with everything it needs instead of enticing us with a low purchase price and allowing us to discover later that the alleged "accessories" (rechargeable batteries, charger, external memory card) are actually mandatory.
Amazon should comply with the Product Description :(     On: 2006-03-09

I bought 2 Kodak Z700, one refurbished and one new. Both cameras come with the same accesories. HOwever the description at the web site says in the product description:

"Other features include compatibility with Kodak EasyShare camera and printer docks; print, e-mail, and organize your photos with just one touch of the Share button; 16MB internal memory with SD/MMC card expansion slot; built-in flash with red-eye reduction; self-timer; real image optical viewfinder; video out cable; USB and A/V cables; wrist strap; Kodak EasyShare software; rapid battery charger; 24V AC adapter and getting started kit. Imported. 2-4/5Hx2-1/5Wx3-4/5L"."

All of the things are correct, but the new camera didnt come with the "rapid battery charger; 24V AC adapter and getting started kit."

The product description imply that. I bought this product on february, and still I dont receive any answer about the missing parts. :( that is a shame for amazon.

Besides that issue, the Z700 is a solid camera, it allows to take great pictures in different pre-programed scenes, and if ypu are a pro user, you can also program the shutter, apperture, etc, etc.

Nice crisp photos and ease of use. Has a nice balance of zoom with cost. Definitely a great buy!
Amazing Colors and Detail for 4MP digicam for such a low price!!!     On: 2006-03-05

This truly is an amazing camera for its price. A great value. The colors are bold and the detail is just as good as any other digicam Ive used (even ones that cost more), and the design is very ergonomic (it fits well in your hand, especially if you have huge hands like I do). In addition, the layout is very simple; therefore, it is extremely user friendly. The additional software is great as well. My only con towards this camera is that it really does suck the life out of batteries in no time (even top Duracell and Energizer batteries, as well as the Kodak "Digital Camera" batteries that come with the camera). You should definitely invest in rechargeable NiMH batteries or youll end up spending a fortune on disposable batteries.

I use a 1GB SD memory card and I get 788 pics or 57min in video footage (with sound). You dont have to buy a 1GB memory card, but you definitely should shoot for at least 128MB.
Mine was a lemon     On: 2006-03-04

My had a problem. It would shut down by itself, sometimes within ten seconds after taking a picture. Obviously thats not how its supposed to function. I returned it and did not ask for a replacement for I might get a similar dud.
Special offer not so special     On: 2006-02-22

Honestly, I havent tried the camera yet. It looks good coming out of the box and has nice features, assuming they work. BUT BEWARE! I ordered Amazons special offer that goes with this camera: a free Compact Flash disk. Only to discover that THE SILLY CAMERA DOESNT TAKE A COMPACT FLASH CARD!!!! So my great deal isnt quite as great as it seemed.

Let that be a lesson to me--dont expect theyre Amazon folks to know what theyre doing.

Im off to Walmart for a dang-gum SD memory card.
Great Camera & Printer     On: 2006-02-15

I received this camera and printer set for Christmas. I was slow to get into the digital age of photography. I took a trip to Florida in January. When I got back and printed out selected pictures of my trip, people couldnt believe that they were from a digital camera. I dont know much about all the specifications and what it all means, but the camera takes excellent pictures. I even used some of the "fancy" settings to use different speeds and f-stops. It was great to be able to see instantly what the pictures looked like. I realize that this is an attribute of ALL digital cameras, but I have a new found appreciation for it.

I have one small complaint about the printer. If you are printing a large number of photos, the paper tray doesnt hold alot of photo paper. That is it probably holds maybe 20 pages or so, but if your printing more than that, you have to reload. I had some problems with that, but I think it was more the computer/printer being finicky!

I hope you enjoy this camera and printer as much as I do!
Z700 Wow!     On: 2006-02-12

This is my first digital camera and I did a lot of research on cameras before buying this one. It seemed each had strong points and some negatives. Any proprietary sticks or the Canon with its bug got eliminated from my list. Getting tired of the research I made the plunge and bought the Z700 based on good reviews and great price. Tempted by higher MP cameras but once you get to a certain point there isnt much noticeable difference in quality. The 4MP does a great job. Also, try to get as high of an optical zoom as possible--the digital zoom on all cameras is just about worthless and just a big number for advertising as far as I am concerned. Most of my film photography was macro and telephoto so the best for under $200 was important to me.

Like others--right out of the box I was taking pictures and downloading them to my laptop. Spent the first day running in & out of the garage to download to the laptop because I didnt order a SD card at the same time. Now have a 1GB San Disk and am loving it--be sure to format it first.

At first, I noticed a clicking that sounded somewhat like a small electical short. Discovered that this is the focusing. I set mine to single focus and no more funny noises. I like this better anyway as it seems to speed up the shots since it is not constantly trying to focus on more area. It has a large sweet spot and you can also chose which area you want to be the primary focus area.

It snowed and I used the PAS (manual settings to compensate for the brightness). Later discovered the SNOW mode which did about as well but the manual settings seemed to be just a little bit better. It is easy to bracket your pictures with digital. This is something that I was always hesitant to do with film because of the cost. With digital turn the dial & try a different picture mode if you dont like certain ones just hit delete.

SCN is one of the wonderful features with a lot of the different (manual) settings done for you. Just select the type of picture environment--backlight, night portrait, night landscape, manner/museum, text, children, party, portrait, beach, flower, fireworks, snow, self portrait (this is great and no red eye). Automatic doesnt get much use by me.

Like another reviewer discovered the night shots are great. Took some in a pitch black room and they turned out beautifully--clear and crisp focus and color.

My Nikon SLR will probably not get much use anymore and end up on Ebay. Focusing for me was becoming an issue and this Z700 does quite a good job.

The video is fun--not high resolution--but fun. I walked my 6 acre property and documented boundary lines with video. The dog howling and romping in the snow was also funny.

The Z700 was really meant for a gift for my 11 yr daughter. She took over 100 pictures today and most turned out very well and quite creative. Maybe there will be an expensive Canon EOS Digital Rebel in the future but for now I am a very happy Kodak Z700 digital camera owner.

Since nothing gets a perfect score from me it gets a 4. It is pretty close to perfect though considering its features and cost which make it a great value. Will just have to wait to rate dependability and longivity. Dont hesitate to buy this as it is a great camera and not a problem yet with over 300 pictures taken.
A small lightweight versatile camera     On: 2006-02-04

I recently used the camera for taking pictures of residential properties. When I downloaded the pictures and saw them on my computer, I was amazed at the detail and the ease of use. On the auto mode, the flash filled in the dark areas and the contrast between light and shadows were brilliant.
Very Nice Camera     On: 2006-02-01

I bought this camera as a gift for my friend. She just loves it. It gives her clear sharp pictures and of coarse the dock is a super plus. Very easy to use and make prints in minutes. Also charges the camera when not in use by simply placing it back on the camera dock. The only little down side to it is that she really loves to print a lot of pictures and of coarse the picture paper is a little pricey. Other then that, she is very pleased with her new digital camera and dock.
Tried the sony and took it back immediately and got this one     On: 2006-01-30

Tried the Sony Cyber shot and it was a horrible mess, I checked reivews on the web and found the problems I was having were common so I took it back and got this one. It has been great, except for having to use the software... its USB so you think it would just work when plugged into a computer but for some reason it doesnt so you have to instal the software that comes with it.
Kodak Easyshare Z700     On: 2006-01-29

This is a great camera. Its my first time using a digital and its easy to use. I enjoy being able to print pictures on the spot and would recommend this camera to others.
I love this camera     On: 2006-01-03

I bought this a camera before Christmas and it takes great pictures and was very easy to use. I plan to buy some rechargeable batteries because the normal ones die very fast. Both my sisters saw my camera over the holidays and plan to buy the same one.
Great quality and value     On: 2006-01-02

I just got this camera and within minutes (about 7)out of the box I was up and running. Snapping photos and loading them on the computer. The Kodak software works great with my XP, and the kodak interface is easy to work with. Some photo editing features, email and print straight from camera. Literallly plug in the camera and after it downloads the photos (seconds) it will automatically prompt for printing or email. Way cool feature.

The camera settings are easy to use, dial is clear and well placed. LCD screen is viewable in bright light. Manual flash settings are convienently located, camera feels comfortable in hand, SD slot placement is logical. I am not sure what was confusing to others in the reviews seen here, my fiance who is a camera novice (and not computer savvy) was up and shooting photos as soon as I handed him the camera. There are a lot of features on this camera, what a great value for the money! Kodak online has great photography tips and help for you and your camera, as well as a downloadable user manual.

Also, yes there is an option for manual settings like a good old fashioned SLR camera. If you are not familiar with traditional 35mm SLR camera settings...then either dont use this feature, take a intro to basic photography course, or buy a cheaper camera that does not offer manual settings. I have had a tried and true SLR camera for years and love it. I was excited to find an affordable digital camera that combines what I like about "point and shoot" style camera, and manual settings that I like about my 35mm SLR. SO - the feature is there, I thought it was pretty straightforward how it works. So if you are familiar with fstop, aperature, ISO, etc...this will be no problem.

The quality of the photos are amazing!! In the "Auto settings" mode even. I have tried many of the special featured setting specifics like the Museum/manner, People inside at a party, and Close up modes and have been happy with results.

One not so great thing, the non-rechargeable batteries that came free with the camera lasted us about 4-5 hours total. So, I reccomend a great quality rechargable set of batteries.

Also, FYI, the internal memory holds about 16 pictures or so. I purchased seperately a 256 MB SD card and now my camera will hold just shy of 200 basic photos (mine says 198).
Very good camera, reliable and convenient!     On: 2005-12-21

I got this camera for work, very quiet when taking the photos and has a fast save time (time for it to take a photo, save it, and then be ready to take another picture).

Its SD card slot doesnt share space with the batteries like some cameras do, so changing SD cards or taking it out to read the photos online doesnt require turning the camera off and on.

Its also got a much better optical zoom that most cameras in this price range (3x is norm) and the 5x optical zoom doesnt get all grainy and pixelated like digital zoom does.

Another nice feature is the sport mode which adjusts the shutter speed to let you capture a fast moving photo (like sports activites, kids at the holidays, photos from car window like for survellance) without getting a BLURRR. Its very nice for all types of light too.

Best value for the money.
Awesome Little Camera     On: 2005-12-18

I spent over two weeks looking at several different cameras offered by Amazon and reading reviews on each one. Ive have an RCA digital that I bought several years ago and its been a great camera BUT it doesnt have the options like the newer ones have today. With my budget I had to conserve on my spending but at the same time I wanted something I would be plezzed with...I finally decided to go with the Kodak Z700 and let me say, Im not sorry for doing so...This "little" camera packs a punch. I love how "easy" it is to operate and with a little bit of reading in the instruction booklet that comes with the camera, I found its pretty easy to navigate thru each type of settings. I also like the Video/Audio feature it has built in...
Overall, I would Strongly Recommend those with limited budgets and want an awesome little camera then by All Means..BUY THIS ONE....You Wont be Sorry...
5 Stars is my choice for this camera. Thanks to Amazon and Kodak.
You get your money's worth!!!     On: 2005-12-16

First of all let me say that i bought this as my first digital camera, and after playing with it a while i really liked what i got; there are three ways to use it (as i see it, actually it has a lot of modes and options) totally auto, specific conditions, or manual.

If you set it on auto, the pictures practically take themselves with the push of a button, in any conditions;

If you have specific conditions there are also settings for that (like landscape, portrait, nighttime, etc.);

And there is also the totally manual setting, wich will be of no use to you unless you know the basics a bout fotography (some people complaint the options are too many and too hard to use and i say unto them "DUH" youve been spoiled by automatic cameras, GO TAKE A FOTO COURSE. NOW.)

And even if you decide to use the manual settings, the on screen display is comprehensive and user friendly, it explains what every option does, so just pick an option and the camera tells you what it is for...

As for picture quality, its like using film, and unless youre planning to print giant posters (in wich case youre better of buying a proffesional camera) you wont know the difference.

I feel good about my purchase and so will you, i think, if you decide to buy this item.
Very Good inexpensive camera for intermediate user     On: 2005-12-02

This is my third Digicamera. For the price you cant really beat it. This camera takes excellent pictures in the dark.
Great, clear, full of features. This camera is not that difficult to use either. It does not require a degree in rocket science, just read the manual.

I still cant get over how well it takes pictures in the dark.
I took a picture of my living at night with no lights on. Totally pitch black. With the flash, the picture of the room looked as if it was mid day and well lit. Amazing

Use the web to research your camera purchase. I checked this camera out through google before finally buying it. I am very pleased with the purchase.
Good Camera, good price, good perfomance, many features.     On: 2005-10-28

If you want no expend so much in a digital camera with a lot of features and if you know something about prhotography that is the right choise, you find everithing for take good pictures in automatic modes, but you have to take a good course for understand all the basics of camera for use in manual mode, so that, the camera is nice, look that a expensive camera and take picture look easy when yor have some expience with this great camera, why I dont give a five stars? because manual control are very hard to understand and make dificult to take pictures in some situation.
Excellent!!     On: 2005-10-27

This is my first digital camera, and Im so pleased with it. At the beginning I dont know what kind of camera buy, but a friend of mine recommend me this one. It have a lot of options to take every kind of pictures, outside, at night, close objects, auto pictures and so others, so, if you want to have a very powerfull camera for a great price this have to be your option. If I have to buy another camera I buy another Kodak easy share.
My second digital camera     On: 2005-10-16

I just bought the Kodak Z700 after using a Polaroid PDC 3070. This camera is a big step beyond the Polaroid! First, it has glass optics. Second it has a whole lot more modes and settings. It is very well documented and the Easy Share software is much better than the software that comes with the PDC 3070. I found the camera to be very easy to operate and the images are sharp and well balanced.
All in all, I say "good camera, good value".
Good camera for the price, have all you need for your memories for all kind of users.     On: 2005-10-07

The camera is great for the begginer people in automatic modes and in many other conditions because it has a preset features like children in motion and sport, backlight and other that brings you the posibilities to take great pictures in many standard conditions, but its not so easy to understand all the manual function, the menu is clear and easy to understand that its a great advantage and have many languages, but you must need elemental know about photography to enjoy all the function of the camera specially in night condition or poor light in manual modes, but you have a great advantage with this camera the flash is powerfull and you can obtain great photos with flash with three modes, automatic, fill and red eyes.
The price is just and great for one camera with this features( about US $ 200 or less), and I thing is a right choice for people that want no expend so much in a good digital camera with optical zoom (the standard zoom for this kind of cameras is 3x or 4x), the camera look great the type is of Reflex cameras, its small, the picture are very clear with good saturation and contrast look like naturals, and the resolution of the viewer its standard and adecuate to see the picture taked, the size of the viewer its small but its adecuate in many situation, you can see the pictures taked in any condiction like outdoors with sunshine.
You can take videos with sound and the quality its aceptable and in the box you have all the neccesary to connect directly to the TV and see your movies, you must buy a big sd memory for enjoy take picture and videos (at least 128 MB sd memory card) and good nimh recheargable batteries with 2000 mah.
Love Camera, Hate Printer     On: 2005-09-25

Dont waste your time with the printer... Kodak has tried to make taking pictures as dependent upon KODAK as possible.
You dont need the printer, printing using this crappy system is more expensive than downloading to a website and buying pictures. And the paper/ink ribbon quality is less than satisfactory. Dont waste your time with the PRINTER!!!
Better than the last digital camera i had.     On: 2005-09-20

The last camera I had was a Gateway...it sucked. The Kodak is very user friendly. I have had no problems with battery life. Pictures print professional quality. Everything so far is great.
Nice looking camera; not user friendly nor quality     On: 2005-09-08

I purchased this camera for $199 at Walmart -- and promptly returned it a short while later.
Pros: lots of settings, easy to use (in automode)
Cons: lots of settings (too many), the LCD viewer doesnt reflect the actual photo, and taking low-light pictures is very cumbersome and not easy. So, this camera is not easy to use for common family pictures indoors; photos are always dark unless a flash is used or manual settings are enabled (the settings of which require a rocket-science degree to understand).

Excellent Choice     On: 2005-08-29

Excelent choice for this price. Easy to use. One bad point is the compaibility of the software Easy Share whit my XP. But the camera is excellent. Tavo
