we bought this product and i thought because it was from JVC it would be good well i was wrong when we recored it looks fine but when we play it back its so dark and i know its that camcorder because are t.v. is also new its really disaponting i would never recommend this product to anyone PLEASE DONT WASTE YOU MONEY ON THIS ONE On: 2006-09-19
The DV is in a weird place, on the bottom, which makes inserting a new tape while the camcorder is on a tripod impossible.
Otherwise, this camera is great. Compact, easy to use, etc. The light on it is convienent; though it would be nice to have the option to turn it on remotely.
Zoom is smooth, and it works great as a webcam. On: 2006-08-13
Ive had this camcorder now for 6 months. Here are some of the things I have found. First you know to purchase a firewire. The charger, I found a nice charger that you put the battery in the unit and plug the whole thing into the electrical socket. That is nice. I dont know if other camcorders have the same type lense cover, but this one stinks. It falls off alot. Whoever designed it should be immediately drug tested. Still shots are so-so. Dont expect them to be like a digital camera quality. I think it is good shooting in overcast or indoors. Of course since this is my first one, I have nothing to campare it to. But all in all Im satisfied. On: 2006-02-23
After reading reviews I bought this piece. It looked good initially and I liked the performance. Suddenly it stopped working. I cannot power on or do anything with it. I thought the battery wsa out and changed it but no use. May be this one is defective. On: 2005-09-16
I decided on this camcorder because it supposedly had an AV in/out and was advertised on various web sites including this one as such. It only has an AV out jack. Therefore you can not transfer your old tapes to digital. WHen I called the company, one person said it did, another one said it didnt. Their customer support services does not even have manuals readily available to them to inform you about this camera. I was put on hold several times so they could "look for them". I would not buy anything from JVC. On: 2005-08-19
Bought this for my husbands birthday, he loves it. Lots of features and good quality pics. Only one complaint, still photo button is right next to record button. We keep pressing the still instead of record! Fits in the palm of hand, great little camera. All in all a good value. Trying to find an external battery charger. On: 2005-08-13
Item came missing a battery and a lens cap. Why should such an advanced item even need a lens cap? I had an older JVC that didnt, and yet had fewer features.
Also, though I do lots of biz with Amazon and love it, it took a while to get this straightened out (emails with no link, waiting for postage paid UPS sticker, etc), and I still await reimbursement. Hope all goes well. As for item, look at SONY. On: 2005-08-09
Nice camcorder for price. The audio sounds fine to me. Zoom is excellent. I connected the camera using firewire to my DVD recorder and it works great, very simple. I am able to easily make copies to DVD of what we created. The onscreen guide is farily easy to navigate through to find what you are looking for. If you want to be able to film and then transfer to DVD, I highly recommend this camera along with buying a DVD recorder, much easier than using a PC. Prices on DVD recorders are now very affordable. It has many attractive features for the price ...
so I just ordered this and totally disappointed with audio
noise. The motor makes too much noise and the built-in
mic picksup that noise. The "audio" is important component
of any recording, I just cant stand a stupid "humming" noise,
so this is getting returned. JVC, what were you thinking ???? On: 2005-07-23
This camera has a lot of great attributes and produces great sound and audio quality, like the other reviewers have mentioned. However, I think it should be noted that the lens cap comes off very easily (i.e. it never stays on). Its not such a big problem that I would change my rating from 5 stars to 4 stars--its just an inconvenience. Make sure you have a good case, or at least a secure method of storing the camera, that protects the lens. On: 2005-06-09
I bought this camcorder on June 1st ; Im glad I did. Its small and has a nice feel in your right hand. It has many features and I havent tried or learned them all yet. The U295 comes with both firewire for video and usb for stills and video input jacks. The controls are easy to use and it comes with two batteries. However you need to buy your own firewire cable. The U295 is recognized by my computer and works with all software (sonic dvd, windows moviemaker, etc) The 512mb memory card I bought for 40.00 holds about 1600 stills. The only bad points I have found are the stills are only 300k per image not one million like I thought, so while you can take many pictures the quality isnt great but its good and the pictures are clear. You just cant get big prints from them. max 4 by 6 prints. I dont think ? you can record video to the memory card. The battery is only good for 1 hour but they give you 2. The zoom feature is excellent but the nighttime recording is only fair. I havent used all the features but overall for the price and features this is a excellent camcorder. Its smaller then most and weighs in at one pound. Can fit in a baggy short pants front pocket or a jacket pocket. I spent a total of 400 for the u295, firewire cable, and memory card and can now make and edit dvd and wmf on my computer with ease. Good buy if you have firewire and want to make and edit dvds on your computer. If you dont plan to do this you might want to spend more for a camcorder that burns directly to dvd.

Wanted to buy a new Cam at the first of the year but waited on the newer models to arrive. I was looking at Canons Z300, Sonys HC32, and JVCs 295. I think each has it strong points but in the end it was JVCs zoom, extra battery, great night vison, and crystal clear quality that lead me here. I love this thing. No problems xfering to pc using firewire. Battery life is above average at 1:39... Usable also as a Web Cam..(great quality) All this for $378....cheaper than z300 at $419 and Sony HC32 at $450
