First, this is not an Apple-branded part as the description claims. Second, while it delivers power, sync did not work at all. My Mac had trouble seeing the iPod: it caused iTunes to hang.
I replaced it with B000IJ73NU from this site and that is the true, working Apple product.

This item was listed as "Apple Dock Connector to USB 2.0 Cable (White)". I thought that meant it was the genuine Apple cable, but what I got (supplied by ClearAV) was an aftermarket cable, not the genuine Apple cable. It is not as elegant as the genuine Apple cable, and it has a sort of new vinyl smell, but it works.

Do NOT Use this cable. Despite the fact that the seller has identified this as being an Apple product, its not. Its made by a company called Inspire Tech. I notified Amazon that the product details are wrong, but theres been no resolution. I would never have purchased this cable if that info hadnt been wrong. I bought two and one didnt work at all and other cut out after a few uses.
Some reviewers have said that the cost is low enough that you can afford to buy a bunch a throw away the ones that dont work... I really dont agree with that. Using a bad cable on any device that draws power through the cable is a recipe for a screwed up device. Its a risk thats not worth taking considering the cost of the devices youre hooking up to it! Avoid! Amazon sells a retractable iPod/iPhone cable that is about $9 and performs perfectly.

I misplaced the doc connector within the first month of owning my ipod. Initially I thought I would have to spend $20 to replace it, but I found this little beauty for a great price to my surprise.

Its a cable. How can you screw it up?
You make it so the metal connector slides off the plastic cable.
I used this cable for about 2 minutes. I plugged it into my iPod charger. I pulled the cable out gently. The cable came out. The metal plug stayed in.
My guess is at this price, their QA can afford to take a break.

This item is great, however, do NOT buy if you have windows vista. I have tried it on my windows vista and it seems to just connect and re connect like theres a problem with the ipod. I tried it with my windows computer and no problems. So be careful when buying!!

This cable does not have the nice apple logo on one side of the connector like the original, and behaved flaky (didnt charge my ipod) on one of my USB sockets, although it worked on the other. If youve lost your ipod cable and need a replacement to charge / transfer songs, this thing will do the job for you a lot cheaper than ordering one from Apple.

When I first hooked this up to my iPhone and my computer, the computer did not recognize it. I picked up the iPhone and then I see the charge and synch icons on the phone. I put it down and the icons disappear. Argghh, the cable isnt making a clean connection somewhere. I fumble with it, putting the iPhone on its side and I get it to work. Once it worked, it worked great but the connection reliability really killed it for me.
I would rather buy a OEM connecter or one that comes with a car charger in the future.

This cable is a good option for those not wanting to go to the Apple store and spend 20 bucks on a replacement cable. True, it doesnt have the little Apple on the cord, but its durable and works great with any of the supported models. This is a solid product and I got it for 4 bucks. You really cant beat that!

We purchased this for my husband to take to work just so he wouldnt have to cart the cable that came with his iPod back and forth from home. It was affordable and has served its purpose well. I highly recommend this product for anyone who needs to be able to access and charge his or her iPod in multiple places simply because of the convenience of not having to tote around and keep up with the cable. It would also serve well as a replacement if the original has been lost. The length is perfect and the durability is great.

Actually I bought this for my iPhone, the phone came with only one cable but has a charger as well as a dock, and both requires a cable. This cable works perfectly with it, and price is way cheaper than Apples $20 each.

This connector cable is easy to use and works as intended. Im not a big fan of the release buttons on the side of end that connects to ipod but hey, they work and havent broken yet.

I bought this item thinking I would be able to charge my 3rd gen ipod via usb to the computer. This is not possible. The usb connector only allows you to transfer data, at a snails pace compared to firewire. So I wound up purchasing the complete firewire package; Dock connector and the charger.

I bought the "Apple iPod Dock Connector" as a replacement for my old one when I thought I lost it. I figured it was cheap and it did say specifically "APPLE", so what the heck. When it arrived, I immediately realized it was NOT indeed anything Apple, but a knock off. That being said, for a knock off, it isnt bad. Sometimes it has a little trouble (and for whatever reason my computer only reads it as a 1.1 rather than a 2.0) but overall its not bad and it works. Just watch out-- it may look inexpensive, but the shipping price will kill you!!!!

Lost my connector cord when I moved so I was excited to see this one for so cheap. The shipping was impressive, very fast! I was pleased to see the quality packaging. UNFORTUNATELY, thats where the pleasantness ended. I plugged it into my computer and I kept getting an error message and thats IF it even recognized it. It didnt work, not even once. WHat a major disappointment. Now I have to go buy the one from Apple, like I should have in the first place.

This cable works exactly the same as the one apple provides. I lost mine and bought this one instead of the $20 "Apple" cable. Highly recomended. It does charge as well as sync.

I bought a USB 2.0 cable through Amazon from a retailer named Inspire, thinking I could save myself a few bucks ($3 + s/h) for the same item from Apple ($20 + s/h). It took two weeks, and was a dud, and said as much on their companys rating. Customer service offered to refund me (with s/h) if I took off my negative rating. So I did. But this isnt their company site, so I have no qualm saying "I would not recommend buying this product from Inspire."
I ended up buying the cable from an Apple store. Brought my baby back to life. Was worth every penny.
Save yourself the hassle and buy through Apple.

I have a 3rd generation iPod and a notebook PC. The only way I could connect the two was with a FireWire card. Once we got wireless internet at my house, I could no longer download software updates to my iPod since I couldnt have my FireWire card and wireless internet card plugged in at the same time. This cord solved that and works great.

Its a cheap alternative to the Apple branded cable. It works just like normal. Transfers data without any issues and charges the ipod (the 5G video iPod that I have, at least) just like the original cable, but about a tenth the cost.

I think that this product isnt original. First of all, the Apple logo doesnt appear at all (not in the nor the cable). When I compared it with the one from the iPod, it had the same length, though no Apple logo. And at last, it has one little button wrong. When you are going to deattach the iPod from the cable, the left button cant be pressed with usual easeness. It still works ok but it isnt what I expected

After reading the other reviewers, I am now almost certain that I need this connector but I just cant seem to understand what is going on. I bought my new ipod Nano about 3 months ago and was using it in my old Mac. I didnt even really pay attention to plugging it in etc. because it all I cared about was that I COULD connect it to my computer... BUT I just bought a new HP PC and went to plug my Nano into it and the firewire end of my cable has nowhere to plug into on my PC. Did I lose something that should have come with my Nano - like a converter or something?? Or do they only come with these ways of connecting through a firewire and therefore, I have no choice but to buy this or else I really cant even use my nano in the first place??? (I didnt even realize that on the Mac, I must have had a firewire port that I had never used before...and now I dont on my PC ?? ) Can anyone help me make sense of this??

When I originally purchased my 3rd Generation IPOD, only a firewire cable was provided. I wanted the increased flexibility to synchronize my IPOD from either home desktop, home laptop or work computer so I purchased the USB cable.
Simple solution to a simple problem.

when i had the ipod dock connector to usb cable, it was the best i ever used. i loved it. i used to take it to school and charge it in my technology class because it has a computer lab. i charged it to a dell pc and it charges well! but it charges faster at home. its the best for sync & charge. for $20, i would be happy to buy this off amazon.com because it is the only known website/seller that sells it. i wish i could get one for less price because this is replaceable and good for people who lost theirs or have problems with theirs. currently, my ipod mini is OFF so i have to wait a bit to make some money and buy a new one. cant wait for this!
