I am a self proclaimed audiophile and have been looking for a decent surround system for my computer. I wanted Something with a little more oomph than my Logitech 5300 and definitely more bass. I also wanted something the could faithfully reproduce my music (jazz and rock mainly) and create an enthralling movie experience.
I found this system and read reviews from many sites and decided i would give it a try. Well this system definitely gives you some oomph, i never have to turn it bast 1/3 of its volume to fill up my average sized dorm room easily. Its subwoofer is definitely big and powerful. Each satellite speaker has a built in mini-sub which allows even the surround speakers to deliver a full sound.
Games sound fantastic, movies are fully realized and music sounds great across all five speakers.
The only problem i have run into with this system is a sometimes over powering bass. (Putting this system in a larger room would help dissipate the bass and probably fix this problem). Although this isnt a Klipsch 7.1 audio system, it stands on its own as a very worthy computer sound system.

About 7 months ago I bought the Gigaworks 7.1 system, which should be better than this system since I paid over $ 500 for it. The system had the greatest sound, but too bad it only lasted for a bit. The waranty on products from Gigaworks is three months, and one week after that is exactly when the subwoofer started to have problems (sounding like a frog). About a month later I was down from a 7.1 to a 3.1. The speakers were fine, but the outlets on the woofer just stopped working. Finaly, about two months later, the woofer stopped working altogether and I have two little speakers working, which sound like a 5 dollar system, even though I paid over 500 dollars for it. Gigaworks doesnt help since they know their products are short life and only give you a 3 month warranty, where most other companies give you a 2 year warranty. Please consider this, and dont waste your money, unless you want to spend a few hundred dollars to have a few months of music. The other thing that doesnt work is the remote control. It only works when it is less then 2 feet away from the receiver, pointing it directly at the receiver and please have 4 seconds patience before it even starts working... It just works whenever it wants to. (And yes, I put brand new batteries in it).
Please consider this before buying this item, there are much more reliable systems out there. Gigaworks and their 3 month default product warranty should just not be in business... On: 2007-11-24
I really like the sound from the Creative Pro Gamer 500 system. I also have 2 logitech 5500 systems and the creative sound is definitely superior. Unfortunately the first creative system I bought quit after slightly more than 1 year. Since I liked the sound a lot I bought a second one. Now it has quit too after about 7 months. The problem on both systems was overheating of the subwoofer. The logitech systems have large heat sinks to dissipate the heat which the creative system does not have. This is probably why my logitech systems have been working for years while the creative systems seem to fail early. I am going to try mounting a fan in the case but this will probably mess up the great sound. After 2 failures in a row with creative systems, next time I will buy logitech. On: 2007-10-31
Nice set of speakers and good features, but a big annoyance is there .... which is: the VERY VERY short speakers cables!! Yes, they are short to the extent that you should NEVER expect that you will take the toy out of the box and start enjoying! Instead, you should expect some effort to be done first to seek some electronic technician help to create a special extension for the supplied cables!!!

Believe it or not, I was directed from a Circuit City sales kid not buy the Harmon Kardon speakers system at the store and stick with Creative (which they didnt carry). I was impressed that he actually steered me right. I am more impressed with this system. I had an older Creative 2.1 and this is a signifcant upgrade. Im not a Gamer - I do custom mixing (MixMeister) for fun on the home PC and this upgrade was worth it. Huge base for the money. On: 2007-02-20
Everything sounds great on these speakers, and truly the sound quality shines with piano and jazz music being played through my bluegears sound card. The bass is crisp and even when it is cranked down, the sound quality is phenomenal. I would recommend this product to any audio freak out there. You cant get much better than this without spending a heck of a lot more money for minimal sound improvements. On: 2006-07-17
I got these speakers yesterday and WOW, they are amazing, extremely loud and crystal clear. In fact these are soo loud, the volume up half way made my sisters pictures turn the side, and pictures on th e desk fall off. These Speakers are perfect for the price.
Pro:
crystal clear
easy setup
Super loud
awesome surround sound
Cons:
Wires to speakers are a little to short especially for rear
(for my situation 15ft x 15ft room) On: 2006-05-17
I own these speakers and have paired them with a X-Fi Platinum. Just awesome. The satellites are clear, the bass is booming and the surround is amazing. They are great for movies and music and INCREDIBLE for games.
For the price, these stand out as a truly amazing speaker system for the PC. Sitting at roughly $200 these speakers are powerful, yet not too powerful. I live in an apartment. I can hardly turn this system up to even 50% levels most of the time. What are normal people going to do with Logitechs MONSTER of a subwoofer (over 500W, WHAT??). Additionally Logitechs systems subwoofer is so powerful that you actually need to place your computer tower a good ways away as the magnets within will actually screw up your computer.
Heres the bottomline. I wanted these speakers for my PC. Not for my TV, not for my DVD Player, not as a home theater system. The G500 were NOT designed for that. They were designed to be awesome PC speakers and thats what they are.
One last note, for those of you not looking to run speaker wires and mount the rear satellites on the wall, these speakers also have stands (which you need to purchase separately). This makes the surround experience much easier to deal with. Check out the MT1200 creative stands, its worth it. On: 2005-08-12
today my wife noticed that the subwoofer wasnt working. Ive turned it off, let it cool, restarted... nothing. It has plenty of space, I keep it fairly low so I dont anger the downstairs neighbors. Im going to try out the warranty but I am not happy.
They sent a new one. So far so good. I just had a defective model, seems to be becoming fairly common, (unrelated?) had my camera and monitor go bad after just a few days (from different companies). Or Im just unlucky.
And no Im not misusing any of my items, and I am very comfortable with technology as well as patient with tech support.
Only 2 out of 19 found my review helpful? Wheres the love? Dont you want to know if a product goes bad and you have to pay to ship it so they can verify that yes it cant be repaired? Or was I just not descriptive enough when I said "(it) wasnt working". How about it didnt function at all and was replaced rather then repaired because Creative Labs agreed.
