Total waste of money.     On: 2006-10-24

My 2nd one of these in 1 year fried itself again. I got it as a gift, and have no receipt. JVC will not honor the warranty because "I probably stole it and messed it up, and now want it fixed". Avoid this and JVC.
Glad there is a 2-year warranty on this model...     On: 2006-08-04

Becasue I expect to use it. Like the other users here, I had the same experience. Works great, but then there is a short spate of erratic behavior and then total failure.

I bought one, returned it after a fortnight. The second one a few months and then it, too, failed. It took weeks for a local service center to obtain the necessary parts. And when they finally got them, the unit failed almost immediately.

I finally shipped it off to the factory service center but the cost of shipping alone would discourage anyone.

The sad thing is that when it worked it worked great. I enjoyed it. And I had great use for many years of another JVC receiver. I only hope that JVC does right by their warranty with this sad product.
Oo-ooh that smell!     On: 2006-05-21

I really wanted to like this receiver. I bought it specifically for its ability to receive a USB signal from my Mac to play music from iTunes. And in that regard it did just fine. My Mac recognized the receiver without any problems, and it was a delight to play my Apple Lossless files via the receiver.

Ultimately, though, I was forced to return it (twice). You know that acrid, burning smell that new receivers often give off when first played? Well, the smell from this receiver was about 20 times worse than usual. It gave everyone in my house headaches. After a couple of weeks I returned it and got a new one, thinking that it must have been just a problem with that individual unit (after all, they cant all smell that bad or no one would keep them, right?). Same thing with the new unit. I put it out on my front porch and let it run continuously for 3 weeks, hoping the smell would "burn off". The smell got a little bit better, but was still unbearable. When I returned the second unit the guy at the store said a lot of units of this model were returned for the same reason.

If you want to play songs from your computer via a receiver and can tolerate noxious fumes, this is the receiver for you. Otherwise, stay away, or invest in a good gas mask!
usb doesn't work     On: 2006-03-09

My receiver works great except for usb. Its impossible to get help from jvc. I have tried for 3 month. Emails and telly. No answers to email and plenty of music waiting on phone. This is my last jvc purchase.
Worked good ..... for 6 months     On: 2006-03-02

This reciver sounded great. JVC promotes the fact this receiver has a USB port, they dont tell you that you need to unplug it everytime you switch to another mode (FM...), because the connection stops working. Despite that I like the way it sounded, but I wish I hadnt bought this disposable receiver.
Blew up after using it just a few times.     On: 2005-11-22

Do not buy this reciever! Mine caught on fire after using it just a few times. I called JVC and this is a known problem with them, however their customer service is terrible and it has been an extreme hassle to get the thing fixed.

Do not buy this reciever!
exploded after 4 days     On: 2005-10-11

(see full review at [...]) I bought this receiver with high hopes that it would last 15 years like my previous JVC receiver. After 4 days of normal use, it popped three times, smoked, and was unusable. The store I purchased it from wouldnt take it back holding to the line "it worked when you took it out of the box..." Its been at the repair shop for 2 months and is still waiting on parts from JVC--known for being slow in customer service. The receiver sounded great--just wish it would have worked for at least a week.
small & versitle     On: 2005-08-26

This JVC receiver is really a dynamo...The sound quality is excellent..
No matter if your using 2 to 8 speakers..Once you connect everything
its a breeze to use...It gets pretty warm so you probably want to keep
it pretty well ventilated..It compares well to larger, heavier, pricier, home theater
amps...You also have the ability to adjust each speaker acccording to room placement
& size....Buttons on the amp work in a logical fashion even though
some features need to be accessed from the remote..The remote
takes a lttle getting used to because of all the functions theyve
jammed on to it.Overall it is well worth the money!
Big Bang For Your Buck     On: 2005-08-23

This is absolutley a terrific receiver. Has USB port that allows you to play music from your computer, Ipod, or MP3. Watched Jurrasic Park 3 tonight with the DTS ES Matrix Surround on and the room just thundered when the Dinos clashed with one another. For $170 this is a steal. 2 Year warranty on parts and labor adds security
to the purchase. This offers 9 surround modes including DTS ES,DTS ES MATRIX,DTS 96/24 and DTS NEO. Also includes 9 DAP modes Hall,Live Club,Dance Club,Theater, etc... At 700 watts this offers more than enough power to satisfy your listening needs.
